President Barack Obama arrives to address troops at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Wednesday, May 2, 2012.
*** The delicate dance on Afghanistan: President Obama was doing a delicate dance on Afghanistan yesterday. It's why people came away with two impressions -- either the U.S. is committing to stay in Afghanistan (until 2024) or the war is ending. Both are true to an extent, though this is a marked shift in strategy to a narrower counter-terrorism focus. Think Biden plan. This is ONLY the end of the Afghanistan war – as we know it. It is NOT the end of the war itself. The reasons Obama's walking this fine line -- he's trying to manage a fragile relationship with Afghanistan, which is concerned that the U.S. will leave, and a war-weary American populace, which increasingly views the war as unpopular. It’s between Karzai and Afghanis not believing the U.S. would stay and Americans wanting the U.S. to go. Look at the polling, and you see just how unpopular the war's become over the past year in particular.
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd talks about President Barack Obama's surprise trip to Afghanistan on the first anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden and his outline for the ongoing U.S. commitment in the country.
*** Why using the bin Laden anniversary was smart: When there were whispers that Obama was going to Afghanistan yesterday, there were cries from the right that the president was going to spike the football. No, this was a president using the bin Laden anniversary to sell what was not going to be that popular a policy on Afghanistan. It was a tough sell, but he might as well use the most popular anniversary he had to sell the policy and, frankly, hope that it led to the exact interpretive confusion that we’ve noticed in the media this morning. He used whatever political capital he had to sell a policy that wasn’t going to be viewed as very popular. And the result – a muted response from Republicans, some of whom seem to be trying to figure out how to attack Obama, but haven’t quite figured it out how yet on this. One thing this will create though – a new annual fight in Congress over the funding of Afghanistan. By the way, read the president’s speech again: there are a LOT of caveats in there: What happens if some of the goals aren’t met -- does that mean some troop withdrawals slow? Could the U.S. ramp up again? There are more open questions this morning as one digests what happened yesterday.
*** Romney’s vague response: After Obama’s speech, Mitt Romney’s campaign put out this VERY vague statement:
“I am pleased that President Obama has returned to Afghanistan. Our troops and the American people deserve to hear from our President about what is at stake in this war. Success in Afghanistan is vital to our nation’s security. It would be a tragedy for Afghanistan and a strategic setback for America if the Taliban returned to power and once again created a sanctuary for terrorists. We tolerated such a sanctuary until we lost thousands on September 11, 2001. Many brave Americans have sacrificed everything so that we could win this fight for a more secure future. Let us honor the memory of the fallen, not only by keeping them in our daily thoughts but also by staying true to their commitment. We are united as one nation in our gratitude to our country’s heroes.”
But what does this statement say? When it comes to Afghanistan, Romney has never been very clear on what he would do differently than this president. He’s vaguely talked about timelines, but that’s not clear. It’s incredibly vague. It’s, well, to borrow John Boehner’s favorite analogy: it’s Jell-O.
*** It hasn’t been a great week for Team Romney: The bin Laden anniversary has dominated the news, the Grennell controversy (more on that below) and Romney may have even walked into an Obama team trap (with a largely unfair accusation declaring Romney wouldn’t have ordered the bin Laden raid) with his “Jimmy Carter” comments. Carter was an unforced error for Romney, and the Romney team knew it. Yesterday, was a Romney who stopped and said basically, “I’m not going to have this debate because I’m not going to win this debate.” Say nice things, be vague, and wait for that Friday jobs report. He was a much different Mitt Romney. And if that jobs report is subpar, he can get back on message – on the economy, which is what this election is all about. That’s exactly what the Romney campaign is focusing on with a new video this morning, “Broken Promises: Jobs and the Economy.”
*** Romney staffer’s exit leads to more controversy: When it was revealed that President Obama was in Afghanistan, word leaked out that the Romney campaign had parted ways with foreign policy spokesman Richard Grennell, who was openly gay and also landed in hot water because of misogynistic Tweets that were deleted. Jennifer Rubin writes, though, that it was because of the opposition from anti-gay groups that forced him out. Grennell himself alludes to that as the reason in a statement. Romney Campaign Manager Matt Rhoades said in a statement from the campaign: “We are disappointed that Ric decided to resign from the campaign for his own personal reasons. We wanted him to stay because he had superior qualifications for the position he was hired to fill.” Did they beg him to stay or beg him to stay in another capacity? His hiring raised eyebrows among social conservatives, but raised eyebrows with others that they hired someone with an acerbic Twitter tongue to deal with the press. It was always a head-scratching decision. The danger of this story is it feeds this notion that when Romney tries to say, “I’m more of a moderate” – even in a general – he still has to look over his right shoulder to cover his right flank.
*** They’re baaaack: After a short hiatus after the GOP primary finally wrapped up, Mitt Romney-aligned Super PAC Restore Our Future is back. They’ve bought up $4 million in broadcast and cable ads (and will likely increase) over the next two weeks in nine states – Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia, and New Hampshire. Notice, though, what’s left out (at least for now) – Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Wisconsin, you can explain, because there’s no room on the air there with the Walker recall fight. Pennsylvania, maybe can be explained, because they were just up there in the primary. But lots of people are going to ask – Michigan but not Pennsylvania (so far), really? That’s got to be a little disconcerting that this isn’t an expand-the-map ad buy. There’s no indication yet of what ad Restore will run. The buy goes up Thursday. Brittany Gross, a spokeswoman for the PAC wouldn’t characterize what the ad would look like yet or acknowledge that there was a forthcoming buy. (Here’s the most recent Restore anti-Obama ad.)
*** The long goodbye -- we can finally roll the credits on the ‘Sixth Sense: Campaign Newt edition’: Newt Gingrich is expected to “officially suspend his campaign” at 3 pm in Arlington, VA, today, a week after he said he would be dropping out. He will speak about “helping Mitt Romney and the Republican party build a governing coalition in Washington and state capitals across the country,” spokesman R.C. Hammond said in a statement. Don't expect Romney to appear despite also being in the area. One thing Gingrich is doing is setting the record for the longest exit from the race. And the way Gingrich has decided to exit is exactly the playbook you’d follow if you did NOT want to speak in primetime at the Republican Convention. In fact, both Gingrich and Santorum have bungled their goodbyes. Romney owes them VERY little at this point. For the record: Here’s the Gingrich good-bye video and here’s the Obama campaign’s “good-bye video,” compiling Gingrich’s attacks on Romney. Of course, there was the same trove of video with Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden attacking Obama during the primary. That hasn’t helped the GOP much.
*** Lugar up with attack ads hitting Mourdock, but race is all about Lugar: Incumbent GOP Sen. Richard Lugar, the longest-serving Republican in the Senate in big jeopardy of losing that job, went up with new radio and TV ads yesterday, hitting state Treasurer Richard Mourdock as having “bad judgment” and “a record of failure.” But the Indianapolis Star notes the race is all about Lugar: “On one side, it's about voter fatigue as the former Indianapolis mayor seeks a seventh Senate term. It's about conservatives who are upset with some of Lugar's votes and some of his bipartisan friendships. It's about frustration among many GOP county organizers over Lugar's lack of involvement for many years in local politics. It's about a belief among some that Republicans should be represented by a dig-in-your-heels fighter, not a diplomat. And it's about the Lugar campaign's stumbles, as well as a deep anger at Washington, D.C., insiders. On the other side of the street, it's about people who deeply appreciate Lugar's willingness to consider more views than the one in his head. It's about a hope that Capitol Hill won't remain as gridlocked as it has been these past few years, and that more lawmakers with Lugar's reasonableness will take office, or at least that fewer will be tossed out. It's about a belief that this country needs lawmakers less inclined to explain the country's problems in simplistic political sound bites, and more capable of grasping the global picture -- yes, even if that means missing the Posey County GOP Lincoln Day dinner because it conflicts with a trip to the former Soviet Union.”

Kudos for President Obama & his laser focus on where our real security threats lie!
Unlike his predecessor who couldn’t of hit the side of a barn with a 12 gauge shotgun!
Although, is VP was pretty accurate when it came to shooting someone in the face!
All I can say is thank gawd for videotape, Willard thewaffle has been running around for 2 full days now with his glued on follicles ablaze yelling about the supposed politicization regarding the first anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden.
From yesterday;
Rather weird since this is what Willard had to say against John Kerry in 2004;
Shout out to John Meachem for his comment;
PRESIDENT BUSH
SHUT DOWN
THE CIA's
BIN LADEN UNIT
IN LATE 2005.
In 2006, Bush said the trail was "stone cold' and hunting Bin Laden was "not a top priority use of American resources".
In 2002, Bush said "I truly am not that concerned about him...I really just don't spend that much time on him, to be honest with you."
Catching Bin Laden was clearly not a priority for the Bush Administration. It took the vision and persistence of President Barack Obama, to focus on removing the Leader of al-Qaeda - heavily destabilize the organization - and obtain critical inside information.
I've been away for a few days. Has First Read done any stories on the Navy Seals (both current and former) who have SLAMMED Obama for trying to politicize and take credit for the operation?
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Kudos for President Obama & his laser focus on where our real security threats lie!

Will the teabagger House Representatives in Congress "F" it up by not appropriating money for peace negotiations like they did not closing GITMO?

Obama 2012
From One Of the REAL heroes of the War On Al Qeada: Jose A. Rodriguez Jr.
As we mark the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death, President Obama deserves credit for making the right choice on taking out Public Enemy No. 1.
But his administration never would have had the opportunity to do the right thing had it not been for some extraordinary work during the George W. Bush administration. Much of that work has been denigrated by Obama as unproductive and contrary to American principles.

Images after Osama bin Laden’s death: As the anniversary of the May 2, 2011, death of Osama bin Laden approaches, here are images showing the compound where he was killed as well as Americans’ reactions to the news.
He is wrong on both counts.
Shortly after bin Laden met his maker last spring, courtesy of U.S. Special Forces and intelligence, the administration proudly announced that when Obama took office, getting bin Laden was made a top priority. Many of us who served in senior counterterrorism positions in the Bush administration were left muttering: “Gee, why didn’t we think of that?”
The truth is that getting bin Laden was the top counterterrorism objective for U.S. intelligence since well before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. This administration built on work painstakingly pursued for many years before Obama was elected — and without this work, Obama administration officials never would have been in a position to authorize the strike on Abbottabad, Pakistan, that resulted in bin Laden’s overdue death.
In 2004, an al-Qaeda terrorist was captured trying to communicate with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of the terror organization’s operations in Iraq. That captured terrorist was taken to a secret CIA prison — or “black site” — where, initially, he was uncooperative. After being subjected to some “enhanced interrogation techniques” — techniques authorized by officials at the most senior levels of the U.S. government and that the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel confirmed were consistent with U.S. law — the detainee became compliant. He was not one of the three al-Qaeda operatives who underwent waterboarding, the harshest of the hard measures.
Once this terrorist decided that non-cooperation was a non-starter, he told us many things — including that bin Laden had given up communicating via telephone, radio or Internet, and depended solely on a single courier who went by “Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti.” At the time, I was chief of the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center. The fact that bin Laden was relying on a lone courier was a revelation that told me bin Laden had given up day-to-day control of his organization. You can’t run an operation as large, complex and ambitious as al-Qaeda by communicating only every few months. It also told me that capturing him would be even harder than we had thought.
Armed with the pseudonym of bin Laden’s courier, we pressed on. We asked other detainees in our custody if they had ever heard of “al-Kuwaiti.” Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the mastermind of 9/11, reacted in horror when he heard the name. He backed into his cell and vigorously denied ever hearing of the man. We later intercepted communications KSM sent to fellow detainees at the black site, in which he instructed them: “Tell them nothing about the courier!”
In 2005 another senior detainee, Abu Faraj al-Libi, told us that this courier had informed him that Libi had been selected to be al-Qaeda’s No. 3 official. Surely that kind of information is delivered only by highly placed individuals.
A couple of years later, after I became head of the National Clandestine Service, the CIA was able to discover the true name of the courier. Armed with that information, the agency worked relentlessly to locate that man. Finding him eventually led to tracking down and killing bin Laden.
With some trying to turn bin Laden’s death into a campaign talking point for Obama’s reelection, it is useful to remember that the trail to bin Laden started in a CIA black site — all of which Obama ordered closed, forever, on the second full day of his administration — and stemmed from information obtained from hardened terrorists who agreed to tell us some (but not all) of what they knew after undergoing harsh but legal interrogation methods. Obama banned those methods on Jan. 22, 2009.
This past weekend, Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Carl Levin attacked statements made in May 2011 by me, former CIA director Michael Hayden and former attorney general Michael Mukasey regarding what led to bin Laden’s death. They misunderstood and mischaracterized our positions.
No single tactic, technique or approach led to the successful operation against bin Laden. But those who suggest it was all a result of a fresh approach taken after Jan. 20, 2009, are mistaken.
Physicists have discovered something new they can't see, thanks to the Hadron Collider. For us mere mortals, we can't see it either, but to reinforce the reason we should keep our day jobs, we can't even imagine it - another subatomic particle. This particle, a baryon called Xi—b, cannot be directly detected because it is too unstable. It's existence can only be inferred based on the actions of other subatomic particles no one can see either.
Barely a century has passed since Niels Bohr and many other brilliant physicists, laid the foundation for our understanding of the atomic world. Only three decades passed before the theory was tested, when we detonated the most awesome weapon in the history of the world - the atomic bomb. At the time, quite a number of scientists thought the bomb would ignite the atmosphere, killing all life. Yet, we did it. That is as risky as it gets.
Today, the world of the atom is still nestled in theory, but we see nuclear power as some sort of benign addition to our energy mix. We remember mushroom clouds, but we forget that beyond the awesome destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there are other examples of the terror that is the atom: Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima.
For sheer explosive power and energy though, solar dwarfs nuclear. Mention Solyndra and watch right-wing heads explode. The government makes an investment in solar, the investment fails, and it's the end of the world. Nuclear is so much better, so much wiser, so much more efficient. Never mind nuclear waste, meltdowns, and the like. Solyndra is what's really toxic.
Walk on grass, eat a fresh salad, work on your tan. That's solar power at work. That's atomic energy. None of that is possible without the sun. It's what makes life possible. A blade of grass converts solar energy and a bit of water and soil into the energy that powers all living things. Invest in finding how photosynthesis can be put to immediate use, or how solar power can be converted directly to an immediately available source of energy and you're crazy. Invest trillions in isotopes that are deadly, and you're being smart and efficient.
It doesn't matter how you cut it, all of our power comes courtesy of the sun. All of it. There is no exception to this rule. Coal and oil are products of the sun. Wind power is the result of solar power. The power in the tides and hydroelectric power are gifts from the sun. The food we eat, whether a strawberry or a cow is a product of solar power. That food contains the solar energy we need to power our bodies. No sun. We die.
How we use that precious energy is a complicated issue, but we know for a certainty, we have used our cheapest sources of energy. Now, we are killing ourselves with filthy forms of energy so we can maintain the fatal fiction of cheap energy.
We're letting Luddites and Know-nothings, ignorant creationists, and the anti-science crowd control this debate. Yes, we're going to make errors along the way. Yes, they will be expensive, but not as expensive as throwing money at Big Oil and Big Coal and nuclear power.
Sure, Solyndra was a failure. But the road to success is paved with failures. We can't be afraid to fail. Can we?
David, there have also been MAJOR advances in the field of mental health. Why haven't you taken advantage of them?
So, here's a great quote from Rodriguez regarding Barack "Rambo" Obama's heroic campaign against Islamofacists: "it is useful to remember that the trail to bin Laden started in a CIA black site — all of which Obama ordered closed, forever, on the second full day of his administration — and stemmed from information obtained from hardened terrorists who agreed to tell us some (but not all) of what they knew after undergoing harsh but legal interrogation methods. Obama banned those methods on Jan. 22, 2009."
We needed a complex solution to a complex problem. The president has struck the right balance.
Obama/Biden 2012!
Sorry about the double post!
Romney should just keep quiet for the next few days until the jobs report comes out on Friday. Whatever it says, he will slam President Obama for it not being better than it is. It is all he has to run on. And a bad jobs report would probably resonate with some people---those who don't remember that the Republicans have done everything they can to thwart the recovery in order to defeat President Obama.
You betcha Bev!
Hey... where are all the usual right wing suspects this morning?
Are the RNC e-mails late & they have nothing to bitch about?
Come out... come out... where ever you are!
We'll be gentle... NOT!
I would like to see us withdraw from Afghanistan as soon as possible. This means I disagree, with the President, Governor Romney and Senators McCain and Graham.
It does mean I'm in the group of 75% of Americans who think we should leave ASAP. Why are our leaders not listening to us?
Feisty, Bev, good morning.
People around the world feel safer and they are very grateful to President Obama for removing Bin Laden.
This is and was a National Win for America.
Where is the patriotism, the gratitude from the GOP party, the loyalty from the admongers Crossroads et al?
Attention:PSA
When you fill your gas tanks just remember the Koch Bros are in you tank. ... the Koch brothers were responsible for rising prices at the gas pump.
The Kochs are into fossil fuel. They want you to continue to subsidize them. They don't like alternative energy; or green jobs either.
Has anyone seen the fake ad they have out sayin the Obama adminstration sent green jobs to China?
Let's all Thank God that we have President Obama as the leader of the Free World.
Awwww!
You looney libs must be COMPLETELY desperate now! LOL
All of the chicken hawk, pacifists that campaigned in '08 for Obummer to end everything up to a slingshot being fired and now you're so frantic for reelection failure that your rooting on the Messiah to "Kill, Kill, Kill!" like Charlie Sheen in Hot Shots!
For example, I think the drone attacks are awesome! I say kudos Obama, kudos sir! But, then again, MY politics hasn't changed with the candidate unlike some on FR…lol
DumbFux
Analyzing the President's Afghan speech yesterday makes one pause as to it's real meaning. I, like others first thought " Oh my God, we'll be there forever". But then I began to see the wisdom and the reasoning behind his plan. We won't be fighting there forever, less than two years until the promised withdrawal of fighting troops in 2014. The remaining personnel will be like those in Iraq who are helping to reconstruct a Country with our help.
The Republicans will scream bloody murder and jump for joy over his plan. But, upon really looking at his exit strategies, those with "some" wisdom will see the brilliance of the plan. Good luck slamming this one.
Obama in 2012.
Did these scientists then become climatologists?
Hmmm..I must have went to one of those dumb schools because I always thought tides were caused by the Moon, not the Sun, and that hydroelectric power utilized gravity (potential energy not solar energy).
What is really funny about your post is the notion that solar energy is better than nuclear energy (when you really mean fission) because the Sun is powered by nuclear energy (fusion).
How did you do in High School physics?
Of course your whole post relates to the transformation of energy and currently we are better at converting chemical and nuclear (fission) to electricity. It does not make us Luddites and Know-nothings, ignorant creationists, and the anti-science. In fact it reveals us as scientists that we know these facts.
My God. The last time Osama bin Laden was THIS involved in our election cycle was when he ENDORSED JOHN KERRY IN 2004. You all remember that? Of course you don't. LOL. You don't hear it from the liberal media now but it was a BIG factor in turning votes away from the 1%'er From Mass.
Once again, a quote from the CIA mastermind of the anti-bin Laden program, Rodriguez; "it is useful to remember that the trail to bin Laden started in a CIA black site — all of which Obama ordered closed, forever, on the second full day of his administration — and stemmed from information obtained from "hardened terrorists who agreed to tell us some (but not all) of what they knew after undergoing harsh but legal interrogation methods.Obama banned those methods on Jan. 22, 2009."""
So how is it that Obama did everything he could (like a typical lefty) to undermine and disrupt the War On Islamofacism (and OBL), but now wants us to believe that he somehow pulled th trigger himself? What an arrogant A-hole he's turned out to be.
Good morning Backhouse
Feisty, Bev, good morning.
People around the world feel safer and they are very grateful to President Obama for removing Bin Laden.
All except the Fiends over @ FOX NOISE & its right wing echo chamber. They really are afraid. But, it it not about terrorism.
They are afraid of our too cool, kick azz, intelligent diplomatic President Obama.
That's why GW Bush is afraid to show his mug. He knows he let bin Laden away in Toro Bora, Afrganistan; and he squandered a surplus Clinton left by giving tax cuts to his rich cronies.
Nobody but Obama/Biden
I'm still unsure how I feel about President Obama signing this pact/treaty whatever they want to call it with Afghanistan, it'll take me a couple of days to mull it all over and let it sink in.
On that note:
Feisty, I was on another newsvine article and got called a baby killin bleedin labiad liberal (for saying I was pro-choice) I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants. I said I was a Ron Paul republican not the other kind lol.
Damage you bring up a good point, why haven't we heard anything from the surviving seals? I may have missed it because I'm dealing with my own soldiers coming home finally, you know the ones who are "no longer in Iraq" I still laugh that people actually believe that.
Amen Alan, I'm trying to remember a time our leaders have ever listened to us? Like Dr. Paul said, "we marched in, we can turn around and march right back out" truer words were never spoken.
Nope, us "looney libs" are pretty happy with our President, and we love the fact that the radical right is having a sh!t fit.
The only thing we should be doing is getting out NOW!
Our infrastructure is decaying, millions unemployed and we are flushing billions down the toilet in Afghanistan every year. Bin laden is dead and we are not going to bring "democracy (which we really don't even have at home) to Afghanistan. All we are doing is getting American military personnel killed and making defense contractors richer in Vietnam 2 the sequel
With Mr. Walker's latest incoherent screed, it appears he stuck more with the creative/fantasy writing classes back in school rather than with anything dealing with the sciences.
Oh the irony.
I'm not surprised my point was totally lost on the loonbats on the left.
Here it is again for the "slow" ones amongst us,
MY politics haven't changed with the politicians, has yours?
DumbFux
Feisty, great post and reminder of Mitt who has mastered the art of the flip/flop calling John Kerry a flip flopper in 2004--priceless. John Meacham's quote is absolutely perfect.
Beverly, terrific post, too.
David Walker, excellent post. We cannot succeed if we never try and fail sometimes in the process.
Michael 1969, everytime I see Dumbfux at the end of your post, I am reminded that you are signing your name so we're sure to recognize who wrote that comment. You do realize that is where one puts their name and signature at the end of a document, letter, etc, don't you?
Freshman House Republicans try to have their cake and eat it too, but are struggling with the tension between their no earmark pledge and their desire to bring home the bacon to their districts.

Beverly, more news has come out about YET ANOTHER vicious attack on White people in the name of Trayvon. This time, it seems a group of 100 Black youths attacked and beat a White couple in Norfolk, Virginia. Will you be contacting your boy Al Sharpton soon to see if you can help wash the blood off his already blood stained hands? Freddies Fashion Mart. Crown Heights. Now Trayvonmania. He and the lying, deceiving dirtbags in the liberal media (including NBC) are at fault. Are you willing to share the blame when, soon, civic hero George Zimmerman rightly walks free and innocent Whites are murdered?
David Walker, the board's most insufferable psuedo intellectual, cut down to size with some cold Braveheart steel. Too funny, and well deserved.
Bill from Fairfux!
If you're talking about the woman beating, adulterer & anti-Semite whom Alan appears to worship... not even close!
What's the matter Me First Billy - cat got your tongue today?
Couldn't come up with one of your usual 10,000 words screeds?
Totally understandable since it has been a rather rough week for Team Red!
More broccoli my man... more broccoli!
Dennis, Yes Indeed. We are hoping the Freshman House Republicans are sent home for good after the election.
What does it say that "special" friend of yours uses it as an avatar??? I think I'll keep using it now....lol....Plus, it just feeeeeels good to type it
Now go scoot over to the corner and get over it...lmao

William Wallace was a woman beating, adulterer and anti-Semite? I did not know so please enlighten me.
I do know he fought for freedom from the English.

Styleite.com:
Today Mitt and Ann Romney appeared on CBS‘s This Morning to talk about Barack Obama, Osama bin Laden, and a slew of other political things. Sharp eyes over at The Cut noticed that Ann was wearing a bird-printed t-shirt by Reed Krakoff.
Naturally, we had to get the scoop on the price. According to a saleswoman at Krakoff’s Madison Avenue store, the silk tee costs $990.
Bill, Fairfax and JAS - more of the same, day after day. You've got nothing to really say so you put good posters down.
1SGFitzWife - and we won't hear from the rest of the seals. They will go to their graves not letting on that they were part of the raid, for two reasons. They are trained not to talk about it - it goes against what they are taught. Also, they and their families would become targets of bin Laden's followers (and there are still some dangerous ones).
As much as I would love for our troops to come home from Afghanistan today, I understand a slow and methodical withdrawal. It makes sense for the safety of the troops and for the stability of Afghanistan. Remember, if the GOP had their way, we would not leave there during our lifetime.
Obama/Biden 2012
Except your avatar is a picture of Mel Gibson & YES he is!
Oh, and I forgot alcoholic!
What's the matter Alan, couldn't find a picture of the real William Wallace so instead you settle for a cheap imitation?
Hey - if you want to align yourself with Mel - that's your business.
Typical! lol
Michael 1969- You're absolutley right. I'VE all along supported the killing, jailing, maiming of Islamofacists WHENEVER and WHEREVER they may be, no matter WHO was president. These hypocritical DUMBFUX could only get behind it when Obama's doing it. Before, they wanted Bush, Cheney et al tried and jailed for war crimes for doing it. How friggin' disgusting is that?
Now the loonbats are the clothing police too!??!????? lol My health care wasn’t enough?? Now you’re concerned about our socks too???
Why in the world do you care? Seriously, are you THAT jealous? How much do you think Obummer’s suits cost? How about his ties? You’re gonna crap when you find out.
Do you ever wonder if you had a job or a life if you’d have sooooo much time for envy?
DumbFux
Pat,
I can picture Ann cleaning bathrooms in her little 'frock'.
Can't you? lol
Feisty Dumbfux apparently believes that "pictures" existed back when William Wallace was alive. What a dumbass. And her description of Mel Gibson could actually apply to Ted Kennedy as well.
Can you point me to one? Maybe a statue like the one in Aberdeen? Maybe the one from the Wallace monument in Stirling? If I used such a picture would you even know? The movies Braveheart and Rob Roy both went over well in Scotland even with their historical inaccuracies, and the actors who portrayed the lead roles, Gibson and Neeson, are used to represent Wallace and McGregor as there are no painting or pictures of the actual people.
Why don't you stop displaying your ignorance of subject you obviously know nothing about.
BTW If you want to educate yourself on the history of Wallace, Bruce and the Scottish wars of Independence, particularly the Declaration of Arbroath, be my guest. You may learn something.
Michael1969 - and yet the Republicans had heart attacks at John Edwards spending $400 for a haircut. Can we say hypocrite???
Pathetic little right winger aren't you. You're just angry about anything and everything. Did you miss your meds today???
Boys and Girls - play nice. Off to meetings for the morning!
Obama/Biden 2012
السلام عليكم to my Osama Bin Laden Loving Republicans!
And 你好 to my Don't Fix The Economy Democrats!
I was reading my Koran today, like a good Republican, and pondering how neither Commie Democrats or Muslim Republicans want to actually do anthing other than take taxpayer money. For example, our march in formation Democrats would not dream of ever cutting teacher's payrolls, not even by 1 percent. They wouldn't get rid of pensions for two weeks of work for other city employees either.
Then I pondered about my Tea Party Republicans who all love Osama Bin Laden, and I noted that they want tax breaks, but not to stop the bonuses the CEO's get from failed companies, especially those who get the tax breaks.
The Republican Koran versus the Democrat Manifesto also enlightened me to this. It is okay to be a Union and spend money from the union on electing your favorite Commie Democratic candidates. It is likewise okay to get a taxbreak as an oil company and spend the money saved on Muslim Republican candidates.
You know why I hold my Koran tight and will probably vote for the Muslim party of Republicans? Because even though they want to make sure nothing useful ever gets done in Congress, I know it is because they are all thinking about that lake of fire promised in the afterlife if we do not swear to the new Republican hero, Osama Bin Laden.
Vote Republican in 2012 and vote for Al-Quaeda! Better than a Manifesto!
Praise Allah.
LOL Damage......Kinda reminds of the t-shirt that says, "I'm a big deal in Japan"
Poor 'ol Feisty DumbFux thinks she's a big deal on FR....The rest of her life is insignificant as evidenced by her threads...lol
Although, I have to have admit she provides paragraphs of entertainment in showing how retarded the left truely are.
DumbFux
Simmer down Mel!
Here, let me educate YOU!
Really? You might do a quick Google search, here I'll even help ya out!
Plenty of them out there...

Everyone knows the crazy Irish dude was the best character in that movie.
"It's MY island!"
LOL....let the lil douche get a haircut for a $1000....I COULDN'T CARE LESS....lol....It's his money
Hell, let him pay off pregnant whores if he wants.
Liberal DumbFux
Some day they will there's seals that talk all the time.
I can see your point on a withdrawl but 2024?? That's ridiculous, my daughter will be 27 in 2024 for goodness sake! I could give a crap about the stability of Afghanistan personally. As for our troops there's absolutely no reason not to just come home.
But our "combat role" or whatever will end in like 2014 I believe.
Don't we still have troops in Bosnia? Note how nobody talks / cares about that anymore.
How freeking stupid are you? Did you attend the same physics class as David Walker? When Wallace lived no one painted a likeness of him that remains today. In fact there are no written records documenting his birth, death or history. His life story is based on a poem by Blind Harry which was written 200 years after he lived.
Tell you what, search the internet for a picture of Jesus and let me know how accurate it is.
You know what was funnier, Michael? When one of the OTHER liberal Dumbfux said that my vitriol and nastiness on here was coverting countless people to vote Democrat. Haaaaa! Yeah. You read that right. Me leaving messages on a dumbass, inconsequential message board belonging to a left-wing TV network that nobody watches was having an effect on politics. Idiots.
By the way. I was thinking. Did I see Hilary "Stay-At-Home Moms Don't Work" Rosen on here the other day? I could have sworn that I read somewhere that Hilary Rosen is a lesbian? Is this true? If so, WTF is she doing going on TV and talking about "women's issues"? Seriously. What the hell does a lesbo know about the issues facing everyday, average women? Isn't that a little like Elton John spouting off on what makes a man a man?
With Dumb Fux, it's limitless.
Hey Michael, don't send your hard earned money to Romney. He doesn't need it. Obviously.
$900 for a shirt. $900!!!!
Of course you would think it's envy.
Envy is hardly the point.
Which is inconsequential when you earn over $2500 an hour doing nothing.
And Mel is an accurate depiction, Alan? Iconic, maybe. A good representation of Wallace? Not any more. Mel's antics is what comes to mind when looking at your avatar. Sorry but that's the way I see it.
@Pat
We've had a week of dogs related stories. You now want to spend time debating the relative expense of the Ann Romney and Michele Obama's clothes?
This is beyond the silly season.
Alan, NJ
Hmmm..I must have went to one of those dumb schools because I always thought tides were caused by the Moon, not the Sun, and that hydroelectric power utilized gravity (potential energy not solar energy).
How did you do in High School physics?
Really? I thought you were referring to the that Communist "Tides Foundation" asssociated with President Obama Glenn Beck always spoke of on FOX Noise; pinhead.
Next question. Pollute the earth
At least you make a reasonable point. If I posted a picture of the statue in Aberdeen would you know what it was? This is one of the inscriptions from the statue.
"I tell you a truth, liberty is the best of all things, my son, never live under any slavish bond."
Can someone translate this into English for me?
I'm working on one as we speak, Miss Feisty. Thanks for asking.
I'm a big fan of national security, however I can't get over our "Nationbuilding" and "aid" programs. It's a billion/year for you, and you, and you,....... Maybe that was viable a while ago, but it seems like those big bankbook days are over. $15 trillion and spending quickly guys- we can't afford that. We are just borrowing money from China to give to other countries (some of whom are afraid of China coming to get them). Kind of wierd logic, isn't it?
Seeking Sanity since he's completely off his rocker said: Remember, if the GOP had their way, we would not leave there during our lifetime.
What president pulled our troops out of VietNam? What presidents were responsible for the build up of troops in VietNam? What presidents were responsible for the deaths of over 58,000 American soldiers?
Here's the answers for you Sanity - President that pulled our troops out - Nixon (R) Presidents responsible for the build up of troops Kennedy (D), Johnson (D). Presidents responsible for the deaths of over 58,000 American soldiers Kennedy (D) Johnson (D).
Stick your comments up your arse!
I think they're trying to say "God created the moon"?
Not entirely positive.
Last I heard we were talking about Afghanistan + Iraq, not Vietnam.
But feel free to post things from forty years ago and fantasize that they are somehow related to today if it makes you feel better.
Kinda thought that myself, any idea why?
This part really confused me though.
Allah loves a good shouting match where nobody changes their minds!
Koran 2012!
YIPPEEE!
Sprinkling a little Metamucil on top of your broccoli did the trick for ya... eh... Billy?
Thanks for the warning!
Alan -- I said the same thing as Feisty only in different words. You missed her point.
To all the Tunnel Dwellers -- A little sunshine goes a long way.
Unlike his predecessor who couldn’t of hit the side of a barn with a 12 gauge shotgun!
At ten paces! But then again he was to busy with landing aircraft on carriers and claiming victory, spiking the ball, before he crossed the goal line.
That was just by luck Defferment Dick probably wasn't aware that it was loaded.
Sure Allan I remembered Glenn Beck talking about the tides foundation before he got kicked off TV so I googled it to be factual. My paste came up in errror. here is what was supposed to come up:
Beck lashes out at the Tides Foundation and the "dirtbag[s]" connected to Tides
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201010190036
Pay close attention @ 1:56 Beck will tell you where it all comes from.
While we are talking about the sun and moon ; let me be clear. I am not a scientist. I can say with certainty all the freakish weather we are having has to be related to fossil fuels
Amen Alan and Ruken,
Where'd you get this anyway? I didn't see it on the vine.. Who posted it? Mars does have two moons but it's just weird phrasing!
*shrug* I don't see the post either.
Mars does have two moons but they're so small that they aren't even rounded iirc.
No you made a reasonable point (only in different words) and said it was how YOU feel.
She as usual made what is considered an internet troll comment.
Don't mention it Miss Feisty, I aim to please.
@Ruken and MGates
It was a Bevism. It was apparently from some Glenn Beck video talking about tides (she has more time on her hands than me).
She just followed it up with another gem
ROTFLMAO
I'm beginning to think her posts are create by some random phrase generator.
@Seeking Sanity
As much as I'd like to agree here and do agree with most of your stuff, I think Obama has lost my vote by talking about enriching a warlord and druglord for 12 more years with American blood and gold. The job is done. If Karzai wants to side with the govt that hid OBL, to hell with him. 12 more years is unacceptable.
It's a really sad statement on the intellect of the right that trolls like JoAnnaSmith1 (have you got that name yet of a company that Mitt saved?), Bill Fairfax, Alan NJ, Nobonojo and the other bozos who simply hate Obama are still talking about transcripts and other specious nonsense instead of the really important things that are getting our kids killed. I had almost hoped that Obama would pull it together but I must admit that I am outraged. I will never look my 8 year old grandson in the eyes and try to explain to him why I voted for a president who committed him to fight and lose his legs in a third-world toilet bowl that hates us without reason. Words could not express my disappointment in him.
Chill out Mel!
You are grumpier then usual today!
Like I told Me First Bill it's okay, we know Team Red is taking a beating this week!
Just think, you have 6 whole months to endure the misery!
PS: With your obsession with all things William Wallace, does your wife enjoy it when you play dress up for her?
Next question. Pollute the earth - With what Beverly? You do realize that oil comes from the earth... when it changes molecular form due to processing and or burning, the byproducts are absorbed by the earth again and recycled back into the earth... Oil isn't some foreign substance that comes from another planet.
My gosh, you people that are so against the using of oil need to really live up to your standards... stop driving, stop taking public transportation, stop flying, stop buying plastic products in the stores. In fact, remove your refrigerators, stoves and microwaves - they also pollute... stop using electricity because the sheating on the wire electricity flows through is made from plastic... your outlets are plastic, the chords to your appliances are plastic... all byproducts of oil. In fact I expect you to stop using your computers because the keyboard is made from plastic... All courtesy of your most hated nemesis... oil. Just think how much money you will stop giving to big oil if you just said NO!
Of course I don't believe for a moment any one of you would ever give up your most cherished possessions... your car, your stuff... most of it coming from BIG OIL! Move out of your homes... how many building materials were produced by using oil?
That's right libs... give it all up! Live up to your hatred for big oil... stop being hypocrites for once in your lucifarian lifestyles.
It's cool - but please don't aim it may way...
I'm out of FreeBreeze!
Alan NJ,
Your government will not listen to you when it comes to stopping the wars because they are making some very rich people and companies richer. You know, the kinds of people and companies that give huge campaign donations. The only one that would stop the wars is Ron Paul. You know, the one they call "crazy".
BTW China does not think his views on monetary plicies and the Gold standard are crazy. They produce more Gold than any other country encourage their citizens to buy it (the only country in the world that does this besides India. They have been buying huge quantities and it is illegal for gold to leave the country. They are setting themselves up to offer an alternative to the dollar and it is going to work becuase they will back the currency with Gold.
What amazes me is that there is not much comment on the written plan for this war to continue for another 12 years!!!!!
By 2024, when this agreement with Afghanistan runs out, the US military will have been in Afghanistan for over 22 years. Children who were not even born when this conflict started will be going into Kabul to fight against the terrorists who made this necessary. While I grant that 6--8 YEARS were lost while we were sidetracked into Iraq, this still remains the longest conflict the US has ever been involved in. A generation will have grown up with the Afghanistan war as a reality.
Many people, Rep. Ron Paul amoung them, say we should just leave. The problem with the US just leaving is that it creates a very large power vacuum. In that type of situation, the terrorists and dictators tend to take over.
Since Afghanistan has not had a stable governement, it will take time for one to establish itself. I know that people complain the Karzai government is corrupt. Perhaps the additional time is needed to get a vailid government in place.
BTW: nice to see the GOP infighting in IN. Although I doubt that the state will suddenly become blue, you never know what might happen. Nothing like the Tea Party to decide that they want to take a "safe" Senate seat and suddenly make it competitive. Maybe they could do the same to Bachman, Ryan and Cantor.
She loves it when I wear my kilt...as a real Scot does. What woman doesn't?.
@Alan:
Ah, now it all makes sense.
Thought so! ☺
Good point! lol
@Brianb-999431
Your usual half-truths, I see. I believe that Eisenhower started our involvement in Viet Nam. Yes,Kennedy escalated it. Eisenhower started Korea too, I think.Raygun dishonored our troops in Central America and South America repeatedly in illegal wars. He did, however gets us out of Lebanon after a couple hundred of our finest were murdered in a terrorist attack. Do you remember how Raygun avenged them? Have you ever read how this act and Raygun's response (if you can call it that) helped form OBL's philosophy and strategy? I'm sure that we can all agree that Bush I went into Kuwait because of oil and only oil. How many Americans even knew where that was before. Bush sent us into Iraq and Afghanistan. Stop throwing mud and saying it's fairy dust. We all know better.
Incidentally, OBL wrote that Raygun's cowardly and immediate withdrawal from Lebanon after the murder of our Marines was proof that if your hit the US hard enough one time that ,like a big bully with a bloodied nose, we'd run away crying. Arguably, Raygun helped convince OBL to plan a massive attack on us. Repugs strong on defense? Don't make jokes.
Brianb -- Really! You are wrong, wrong, wrong!!!! Oil, when kept underground will not harm anything. When extracted with utmost care and concern it's been rather useful. But when spilled above ground and in our oceans it kills. Who are you effing kidding here? Yourself obviously. Man is the polluter. Man can prevent this. Man has a moral obligation to do so. When we pollute the land and air we cause harm. We disrupt a very fragile balance. It is not called God's green Earth for nothing. You and your ilk would have it otherwise. Regulate the crap out of these idiots, their greed will do more harm than good.
Let me be clear, I'm not a scientist either -- probably the only thing in all of creation I have in common with Bev. But I'm still peeved that Pluto isn't a planet anymore, what's up with that? Did God change his/her mind, or did mere mortals just get that one wrong?
Dirp...thanks for paying attention to what's important. This is outrageous. Obama pledged to end the wars. It's arguable whether Iraq is over. We still have troops there. We can still have dead American soldiers so I question whether it's over. And extending our support to a lying, corrupt, thieving jizzball like Karzai is really beyond outrageous. I am absolutely stupefied. And ALMOST as surprised that no one on the right has seized on that. How many of our kids need to die before we say, "enough". I could never support a lying thieving weasel like Romney, but I've now had enough of Obama. It's time for him to go. Unless he backs off of this, I am done with him.
@Bill: With the discovery of more planetary bodies of the same size in our solar system, either we'd have to name more planets who all met the criteria pluto did, or just make higher standards to being a planet. Personally, I would have named more planets. But, I think the concern was that there might eventually be too many, as time went on, to make this practical.
That's the story I heard, anyway.
Dirp, blue, sanity, etc
How long have we had a military presence in Europe and Japan?
That means you advocate our withdrawal from Europe, Japan, etc. Bring all the troops home and station them on our southern border?
Alan, NJ:
You wrote:
I have no idea where you attended school, dumb or otherwise, but based on your conjugation skills in English, I have to wonder why I would imagine your knowledge of physics would not be suspect.
You are called Alan, I am called David. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, we are both Homo sapiens. By the same token, regardless of the name you give the forms of energy you have on your cut-and-paste list, they are derivatives of solar power.
Bill, Fairfax wrote:
Was that a test to see if I knew that you really meant "pseudo-intellectual"?
On the larger point, what you are actually saying is that indeed, YOU are the intellectual. Anyone who disagrees with you or who writes something you do not understand is a pseudo-intellectual.
As a matter of fact, I have never presented myself as an intellectual any more than the left wing or President Obama has presented himself as "The Messiah". Nope. Those are fictions and warped interpretations that come only from you and your ilk.
Damaged:
The article you cited said waterboarding was not used to obtain the info needed to find Osama. What techniques are you referring to that were used to find Osama and later outlawed?
And I don't think Obama discredited the intelligence gathering or the work by the Seals - that would be the work of those trying to discredit Obama for finally getting Osama. The fact that it happened on his watch instead of Bush II may be a coincidence, but Bush stopped looking, so I don't think so.
@ Michael1969,
Just curious is your avatar the same picture you use on match.com? You look like you have to fart. By the way keep putting away those twinkies. You're increasing our healthcare premiums by the day. #personal responsibility
"Eisenhower started Korea too"
US didn't start that war. North Korea invaded South Korea.
"I'm sure that we can all agree that Bush I went into Kuwait because of oil and only oil"
Wrong again Thomas, we went because Iraq invaded Kuwait and the Saudi's where the spearhead to go into Kuwait City.
Afghanistan was because of what happened on 9/11. Iraq, Congress voted to go to war.
"Incidentally, OBL wrote that Raygun's cowardly and immediate withdrawal from Lebanon after the murder of our Marines was proof that if your hit the US hard"

I may not be an English major but you are definitely not a scientist nor engineer.
http://physics.info/energy/
Please explain to me how gravity is a derivative of solar power.
Derek -- so what you described is basically that the "settled science" of what does or does not constitute a planet was not "settled" at all and in fact evolved as additional information came to be known. Just like the "settled science" of a flat earth or a steady-state universe was adjusted in response to an evolving knowledge base.
But whether it be Pluto or a flat earth, being wrong on those issues at the time had little if any effect on how folks lived their lives and went about their business. By contrast, the "settled science" today that purportedly links climate change to human activity would have an enormous influence on daily life -- if the warmist zealots had their way.
The point is that "settled science" is only "settled" when viewed through the contemporaneous prism created by those who developed the "science" in the first place. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, it's more or less how the scientific process works and as time goes by new prisms are constructed to take into account new information. What's wrong is when zealous devotees of a contemporary version of "settled science" insist on turning societies upside down based on theories that cannot be tested and on computer models that are notoriously inreliable.
I'm willing to suck it up and accept that Pluto is no longer a planet. But I'm not willing to deconstuct today's society and build a new one just because the purveyors of "settled science" are telling me they know what's best for the rest of us.
Just sayin' to all my warmist friends.
______
No, what I'm saying is you are an insufferable, self-absorbed jackass who writes crap.
There's Feisty, first poster again. With all the predictability of a sunrise she starts off by saying stupid shi$ about Bush, Cheney, and then slams Romney with superficial insults. Then for the finale....drum roll please.....cutting and pasting someone else's work! Yeaaaaa, and the minions rejoice. It would be amazing if she could actually prop up her man instead of just ripping others in a juvenile fashion. FEISTY, all you've got to do is listen to barack, he'll feed you plenty of lies about everything he's responsible for over and over and over again.
Feisty when does your email come in telling you that a new story is posting? Or do you just constantly shake like a chihuahua with excitement hitting the refresh button over and over? Do you have the news feed go directly to your phone? How much do they pay you over at media matters? Have you actually met george soros? (smells pretty bad doesn't he?)
Interesting how you state that you're going to "educate" Alan but then just post a link of the first thing you find in a google search. Nice job educating, you must be a tenured teacher. That explains alot of the ignorance that comes from your posts. When you get done with the superficial insults, the name calling, and the pasting of other peoples efforts all you have left is an brainwashed, arrogant broad on the payroll of a left wing propaganda organization pasting a lot but never really saying squat.
New name for feisty..."old faithful". Lets see how many times she's the first post over the next week. Then you all tell me, is it payroll or just really stupid, as in "get a life" misguided and not well-stated passion?
Hey Alan, NJ Feistys grip on her minions is weakening, she's so transparent and people are finally catching on to it. Plus it's obvious she's on a payroll. But the biggest point is, as I've stated before, when you put her in a corner with facts (which is really easy to do) she lashes out like a frightened pussycat and the only ammunition she knows how to use is elementary name calling. She will never address the topic once you prove her wrong...which again, is very easy to do. It's like watching a train wreck, you just have to look even though you know what you'll see is horrifying.
It looks like the liberal lunatics are back at their daily collapsing of any post that does not fit their agenda.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH! yeah right!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
David,
Be careful because if you start ripping on typos and you ever plan to post on here again you will be opening yourself up for a whole lot of silly bashing. So on that note I'd say you better double-triple check your work and then hope that you didn't miss a keystroke. People have opened up that can of worms on me before and I partake in their stupid game and don't ever let them forget that they were supposed to be perfect. Okay, time-in...back to your scientific bantering.
Physician heel thyself!
I can name at least half a dozen from the left side of the isle that take this approach in EVERY thread!
Look around at the hypocrisy man!
HAHAHAAH! What an idiot! MOST of the images she found in her Google search are of Mel Gibson!
(HAHAHAHAH!!!!!!)
(show me the clown nose, fisty! - because stupidity is HILARIOUS!)
Hey Beverly
Are you actually, as in literally rolling on the floor laughing at Feisty's opening post? WOW Beverly, when I said "minions" I thought I was throwing out a loosely representative word. I guess it was spot on. You must be really, really simple minded to actually be rolling on the floor laughing at anything on this board let alone that drivel. Maybe if you kiss her ass a little more you'll get a Christmas card from her employer, or a Satin's birthday card or whatever they worship. Oh I forgot, you're under payroll suspicion too. In that case, good looking out for your co-worker.
I'll ask this again; why do you post everything in bold font? You know it does bring attention to you but I don't think it's the kind you want. The image is of some old tattered hag walking down the street shouting nonsense to anyone within ear shot. Not saying you are that hag, just saying that's the image your full-time bold font represents.
Republicans are all sulking today because no one threw any shoes at President Obama while He was in Afghanistan.
RWW... you were right... she is that hag!
If Abraham Lincoln had talked exclusively about himself during his Gettsburg Address, it wouldn't sound half as crass as Obama does when talking about bin Laden's death! When will Obama stop this???
I can't blame the Navy Seals for being a little disgusted with him!
I guess you could call it settled science, and use it to make a larger point. All I was referring to was just terminology. In the case of Pluto, nobody is arguing anything physical about the planet. Just whether it should be called one or not, and agreeing on a definition.
Paul-Florida

Eisenhower started our involvement in that war. Better? It wasn't our war.
The only reason we cared about Kuwait was because of its oil. That is absurd to even challenge. You must be a Raygunite or Neocon.
Afghanistan happened because of 9-11. (-11 happened because the US has tried to play God/Big Brother in the middle east where we have no business. Raygun and the CIA pretty much made OBL who he was just like Ariel Sharon created Yassar Arafat. And if you're not sure about " Raygun's cowardly and immediate withdrawal from Lebanon after the murder of our Marines was proof that if your hit the US hard" being true, crack a book and stoip listening to Faux. OBL was very educated and eager to "inspire and enlighten others". Hitler wote on paper what he was all about. Just nobody believed it until it was too late. Same with OBL. He has many writings. I'm not his fan but he made perfect sense if you didn't mind killing a lot of innocent people. By his writings, it's pretty certain that if we had not been propping up the Saudi royal family- which isn't our business- or helping Israel kill Palestinians and muslins by the thousands, he wouldn't have cared about us. Did he ever go after Sweden? Switzerland? Argentina?
Rightwingwac:
That is very good advice. I try to be careful about typos, however I generally recognize typos for what they are. We all make them. That said, Alan's was not a typo, it was a clear conjugation error. If you are going to talk about schooling, you should make certain you do not make basic grammatical errors. I can't think of an instance, where I have hammered Alan for simple typos.
The same is true of Bill, Fairfax. That was not a typo. It was an error on two counts as you can see from the correction I so generously provided.
Moreover, both of them stalk me to find my errors. I make them. I can live with that. I can take the shots. Still, on errors of fact, which are rife in Alan's post, they should be challenged.
As an instance, in his post on the energy issue, he presents gravity as energy. It is not. It is a force created by what can best be described as a warp/ripple in the fabric of space-time. Gravity is not a form of energy, it is one of four fundamental forces. Apparently, knowing this qualifies one as a "pompous ass" or a "self-absorbed jackass". You may have noted Fairfax Bill had no rebuttal. He's had to resort to grade-school pejoratives.
When I was younger, I thought William F. Buckley was rather a pompous ass. However, he seemed to get much smarter as I aged. Today, I don't remember him as a pompous ass at all, but rather as a man who had some excellent points to make.
Excellent rebuttals David.
Mac -- That's funny!
David.
Wait a minute...I'm confused. You threw me for a major loop with that one. Where are all the silly names that you're supposed to call me? Is this an actual well stated rebuttal? Man I'm impressed, seriously. I guess I've been hanging around the bowels of these boards where Feisty likes to hang out and it's jaded me.
So to your point; point taken, especially if anyone has come after you for typos, therein lies my point. Kudos
Mac, although cute, the tragic part about your statement is that if someone did throw a shoe at barack, the country would be considered racist and an eruption calling for retaliation against Afghanistan would have quickly presented itself. IF that would have happened would you have been appalled at the disrespect and the lack of discipline to follow? IF you would have than were you appalled when it happened to Bush? Not assuming anything, just asking.
Ruken, no one worries what Michael 1969 posts. Like Brianb(imbo), JAS and Sick.... he is so filled with hatred that facts are never allowed to intrude into his life. I'm sitting here chuckling since all sickofthebickering does is "bicker."
President Obama continues to be presidential while Romney couldn't even take the heckling at a small gathering yesterday in New York. Had to pack it up and go home.
Obama/Biden 2012
Not to put too fine a point on it, but before today when was the last time I bothered to address anything you had to say? You folks are so good at making stuff up to fit your narrative.
So lame, surely you can do better than that. I'll give you a chance: David, how many mirrors do you have in your house? I'm guessing at least one in every room so you'll never be more than a glance away from admiring yourself.
Get the picture?
David please stop digging the hole you're in. From my original post
This is very basic physics. It is not some philosophical argument. From the link I already posted
And just to help you a little more

Please stop making a fool of yourself.
Man y'all are freeking evil, Feisty and I will agree that we've gone at it more than once, but to say the things y'all are saying does nothing but make you look like fools, I've noticed lately that Bev has been doing more of the incoherent bold type rants but that doesn't make her any less right than y'all does it?
You should all be ashamed!
Alan, Science Wizard from NJ:
OK, please tell me how that water gets in the air before it falls to the ground. Is it gravity pulling it upward? Does it sneak up there at night? This sounds almost too ridiculous, but is it possible that the sun warms it and causes it to rise?
This potential energy about which you write: Where does it come from?
Golly Mr. Wizard, it's so dark in this hole. Please provide me with your wondrous illumination.
Thanks Alan. I'll stand by for your answer. I won't be able to reply as I am certain I will be stunned by your brilliance.
just another little question here too Mr.Wizard (Alan), any clue how to get rid of the nuclear waste? We have about 60-70 years worth right now. Does a psychist of your calibre know the half-life of this crap?
blearyeyed
Now that sounds like a plan. We can't save the world and it's foolish to try. Any parent of more than one child knows the futility of trying to keep your kids from fighting. Should we go into Sudan? That's a good one for Pual,Fla., actually. Why go into Kuwait but not Liberia or Rwanda? Do you honestly think that oil wasn't a factor? Will you sacrifice your kids for cheap oil?
Fitz!
Ain't that the truth? Yet we still remain friends!
I don't care what you say or call me - you still have a beautiful daughter! ;o)
Hell, having battled Mr. Me First Bill all of these years, I still have a soft spot in my heart for him!
And to be honest, even Alan is starting to grow on me somewhat - must be the kilt thingy! lol
So this is how you admit defeat by changing the subject. We all know it gets up there by evaporation caused by the Sun's energy. However, the Sun's energy is not responsible for it falling down which is what we use to create electricity through hydro-electric power stations.
I hear there's a nice mountain in Nevada waiting for it. By the way would you like to ban x-rays as well? How about granite, should we stop using that in buildings?
Thomas Blue: I don't know how this thread went off on the tangent of nuclear waste and power (don't really care) but one possible solution would be to send the spent fuel rods off to the Sun.... just a thought. Of course, that would get the NIMBY's in FL up in arms because we have to launch from somewhere.
As to the troops in Germany, Japan, etc. we as a country have to make a decision about what our long term role in the world is going to be. Are we the world's policeman ? If we are, shouldn't the world be paying for part of the cost ? It would certainly help if other countries paid part.
I do understand why some of the bases in Europe have existed. It really was not all that long ago that the Soviet Union was THE major threat. Russia itself is not all that stable and some of the former republics are not either. I would bet that our presence in Japan is a reminder to China to not consider military expansionism.
It ain't easy being leader of the free world. Imperial Rome, imperial England, imperial France, imperial spain, every empire has found it difficult to maintain an expanded empire, and they were able to tax their colonies directly. The US does it through taxing the companies which do worldwide business.
Yes, the war in Iraq was about oil. It wasn't all it was about, but 90% goes a long way. 10% might have been simple revenge for Saddam Hussein plotting to kill W's daddy.
Thomas Blue - I wish we would be out of Afghanistan next year at the latest. And, I am disappointed but I also know that if a Republican wins as President, we will not only be there longer but will (most likely) be in another war in less than 2 years. McCain wants troops on the ground in Syria. I don't think Romney will go against the GOP war mongers.
Brianb(imbo) - I'm a woman and darlin I can walk circles around you any day of the week when it comes to intelligence, integrity and just plain old common sense. But, you and JAS, NJNB, just go on with your ignorant rants and lies. We would expect nothing more from you guys.
Obama/Biden 2012
Restore Our Future -- I don't know about others, but I find this Flip Romney Super PAC slogan odd. Instead of Restore the American Dream, "Our" means the 1% (very telling with a little thought).
True Patriot:
I can appreciate a good slogan as much as the next guy, but even the most challenged intellect has to ask: How do you restore something that hasn't been?
New from the web-site Breitbart Beyond the Grave - stunnning pictorial evidence George Washington actuallly didn't even ROW on his ballyhoooed trip oacrosss the Delaware - His MEn DID!!!thus making it a mix of a campaign trip and a vacation trip!Paid for witgh MY TAX DOLLLARS!!!!!!
damage123, lol get a life, oops might be hard with as much hatred u type, can only imagine what u vocalize. Next keep your sour sources name private, a soldier, sailor, etc posting against their chain of command is called treason.
[Live up to your hatred for big oil... stop being hypocrites for once in your lucifarian lifestyles.]
Well, looks like Brianb has found God...now he just needs to find a job.
Excellent!
We're talking Wall Street donors here, so maybe forecasts of passive income and keeping it sheltered from taxation? What's funny is it's so much like Stephen Colbert's Super PAC "Making a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow."
It happens Feisty lol
you should see my daughter now, that video is 2 years old, I'm beating the boys off with a stick, or well her daddy is, seeing a 1SG go after a mosquito wing erm, a private is the funniest thing I've ever seen! But unfortunately for us we love this boy, though he has this whole fantasy that he's going to marry my daughter when she turns 18, yeah that won't happen, we've worked very hard to make sure she goes to college, daddy gave up his GI Bill for her and the moment I found out I was pregnant I started two accounts, she's not going to suffer like we did, she's got a free ride to college, with no debt.
Alan 'sounds" hot as does Brianb I have as much love for the conservatives as I do you liberals. For the most part anyway, I just wish ya'll would be nicer to each other.
Now I have to go school my husband cause well he played a song that makes me want to kill everyone, why is it boys are so stupid sometimes?
Interesting thread.
I'll just drop by to say that David is correct - the Sun (and stars) are currently the only source of energy we have. All energy sources can be directly traced back to our sun (solar, tidal, hydrological, etc.) or stars in general (geothermal - our own sun plays a huge role this as well).
Kudos, David - someone knows what they're talking about.
.
What Will Change Between Now and Election Day?
Pundits say that six months is an eternity in the world of politics. Anything can happen and it's way too early to draw many conclusions. I'm not so sure. Here are a few things that won't change much.
1.John Boehner has told Rubio not to bother with a Republican version of the Dream Act as it has no chance of getting through the Tea Party House. Hard-working Hispanics will continue to view Republicans as the party opposed to them finding a path to citizenship.
2.The war on women will continue both on a national level and a state level. Republicans will continue to bash the Affordable Healthcare Act, Planned Parenthood and other groups that provide healthcare for women. Women will remember that it was the House Republicans who voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
3.The economy will continue to make slow and steady progress. Companies are recognizing that it is better to hire workers in the United States as they are more efficient, thus jobs will continue to return from China.
4.Romney will continue doing Etch-a-Sketch by forgetting that he said "Let Detroit go bankrupt" and "It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just to catch one person." Translation: Let Detroit fail and I'm not bothering to kill Bin Laden.
5.I don't expect wooden Willard to change much in the next 6 months. He will continue to talk about the poor as though he once met one: perhaps it was his gardener. And BTW, will someone tell Romney that college students seek student loans because their parents cannot afford to pay for college tuition?
It is the unexpected that might make a difference in the election. Possible earthquakes in California or the mid-west, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes and tornados could cause major hardship and how the government manages natural disasters could be an issue.
On the world stage I hear that Ben Netanyahu is having "messianic feelings" and is itching to bomb Persia, aka Iran. Someone needs to tell Ben that self-fulfilling prophesies can literally blow-up in your face and God wants him to keep his powder dry.
Most things are set in stone…except the unexpected.
Well Ron, that's pretty interesting- particularly the "let Detroit go bankrupt" line. You DO know that GM and Chrysler DID go bankrupt. You DO know that it was the kind of managed bankruptcy Romney prescribed. You DO know that, unlike the managed bankruptcy Romney would have ordered, Obama shafted the secured bond holders- primarily funds held by teacher, police, and firefighter unions- and handed the reins to the unions. I, actually, do not expect you to comprehend the meaning of the term "secured".
The rest of your fluff is not worth addressing. This is
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/obamas-whopper-about-an-ohio-river-bridge/2012/04/30/gIQA7NMasT_blog.html?wprss=rss_fact-checker
So, Obama continues to double down on lies. Well, what else could we expect?
No Joe---stop with your lies please. You know very well that the sort of bankruptcy that Mitt was proposing for GM was not possible---there was no one with the money to do it EXCEPT the government. Bain Capital even turned it down. There simply was no other way to save the U.S. auto industry and the President did. The fact of the matter is that today GM is alive and Bin Laden is dead because of President Obama.
Will Mitt Romney claim he has been POTUS?
POLITCO - By Jennifer Granholm 5-1-2012
No, he didn’t! Did Romney’s adviser Eric Fehrnstrom really say that President Barack Obama did “exactly” what Mitt Romney advised on the auto industry?
OK, I admit that I have a particular animus toward a guy that knifed us in the back when Michigan was on its knees. But let’s just look at the facts on the auto bailout. It’s straightforward.
Fact: In December 2008, the U.S. economy was in a free fall. There was no private bank or entity willing or able to loan the automakers the amount they needed to see them through the crisis. From former President George W. Bush to Steve Rattner, who led Obama’s auto rescue team, to financial experts and editorial pages across the nation, to Ford’s Alan Mulally just a few weeks ago — all have said that there was no other option than government assistance. None. {Period}
Sergio Marchionne, head of Chrysler, even quipped that anyone who said otherwise was “smoking illegal material.”
Fact: If the automakers had liquidated, the United States would have lost more than 1 million jobs. That’s according to the nonpartisan Center for Automotive Research, which studies such things. It would have cost the federal government more than $150 billion in tax revenue and it would have “set the GDP [gross domestic product] back hundreds of billions of dollars” — that’s according to Bush.
In Michigan alone, from December 2008 through June 2009, a whopping 1,018 Michigan companies announced mass layoffs in response to the economic collapse. Banks were not lending to companies, large or small — and they certainly weren’t willing or able to finance a massive industry wide bailout.
Here’s what’s most ironic: Bain Capital was reportedly one of the private-sector players approached to provide financing for the bankruptcy. They said “Hell no” like everyone else. At Bain, Romney did this kind of company “restructuring” for a living. He knows this stuff. And, of course, he knows better. He just hopes you’re too ignorant or lazy to follow the thread of his mendacity.
Fast-forward three years.
Fact: In 2011, the auto industry posted its biggest annual employment increase of any year since 1994. The industry has added 217,000 jobs since June 2009.
Fact: Chrysler, which faced the longest odds, continues to astound everyone. On Tuesday, it announced its April sales were up 20 percent from last year. It has paid back its loans early. In the first quarter of 2012, it recorded a $473 million profit — four times the amount of the previous year. Chrysler’s market share is up to 11.2 percent, from 9.2 percent a year earlier.
Fact: GM reclaimed its spot as the world’s No. 1 automaker in 2011. The company sold 9.03 million cars and trucks in 2011, up 7.6 percent from the year before. It also recorded its largest one-year profit ever — $7.6 billion.
Fact: 1.45 million people are working as a direct result of the $80 billion bailout, again according to the Center for Automotive Research, both at the carmakers and associated businesses large and small. More jobs are being added every day, and the unemployment rate is falling in states with a manufacturing and auto industry presence faster than the rest of the country.
Romney said in another op-ed in February, “I believe that without [Obama’s] intervention things there would be better.”
Now he wants it both ways: Appease the right by first saying that he would have “let Detroit go bankrupt” and now saying that it was all his idea to rescue the auto industry in the first place and Obama just followed his advice.
He’s a wily guy, that Romney — taking credit for one of Obama’s biggest successes.
Stocks rose Tuesday on the strong report that manufacturing continues to grow. The Dow is on pace for its highest level since 2007.
What’s next? Maybe, as the folks at The Final Edition suggested — if the economy keeps rebounding, Romney will simply claim he’s been president all along.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0512/75789.html
Thanks to their China operations and sales.
The chanting continues. All other automakers were managing just fine. Ford, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Honda and Toyota were producing cars quite well. The demand for auto's was there regardless of whether or not GM and Chrysler existed. You keep saying Obama "saved the US auto industry". That is not true. Going through a bankruptcy many of the parts of GM would have been sold off to the other companies, and GM may have existed but on a much smaller scale while the other automakers would have increased their market share. Nothing was saved, other than the union jobs with a taxpayer funded bailout. A bailout that will never be repaid.
If Obama can question if Romney would have launched the mission to kill UBL, a hypothetical, why can't Romney claim hypothetically that things would be better.
Personally I wish the two would start focusing on the future rather than what the other could or should have done on the past.
@Ron
I know you cannot answer this because it will show that you are again conflating legal and illegal immigration, but who exactly are these hard working Hispanics that are being blocked from citizenship?
Dennis -- Wouldn't surprise me. Romney is a known liar in all things.
From Feisty Redhead:
Conservative hypocrisy is just standard operating procedure for them. And this isn't just a case of both parties doing the same thing. The Republicans accused John Kerry of being weak on terrorism without providing any evidence to back up their nasty accusation. The Obama campaign used Romney's own words from 2007 that strongly suggest he would have followed Bush's haphazard approach to searching for Bin Laden and would not have sent the SEAL team into an "allied" country to get him.
And does anyone remember much of a commotion in the "mainstream" media about how Bush was shamelessly politicizing 9/11? I don't, except for maybe Keith Olbermann and a handful of other "lefty libs." By hyping the Republicans' whining about Obama rightfully taking credit for a tough decision, the media is once again following the party line -- the Republican Party, that is.
Wow he done one thing right in almost 4 years. I credit the Seals for killing him. It was a great raid. Obama said go. That's his involvement in it. Nothing more or less.
One thing in over three years.
Alan, NJ
Romney's attitude about Bin Laden is not a "hypothetical". In 2007, Romney SAID he wouldn't have focused on getting Bin Laden the way Obama did and also that he wouldn't send troops into Pakistan to get Bin Laden. Not that what Romney says usually means much, but there's no reason to doubt he would have followed Bush's lead in failing to bring down Bin Laden.
Sure, Romney can still say things would have been better without Obama's intervention to save the economy from collapse and to save the auto industry. But the facts don't back him up. And Obama can say that Romney is advocating exactly the policies that led to the Bush Recession because that's exactly what he is advocating.
rukidding - must suck to be as jealous as you are of Obama. Mu guess is he really sticks in your craw because you are so inadequate in whatever you do.
JAS - you don't ever know what you're talking about and your rant about GM is more of the same - lies, lies and more lies. President Obama did the right thing in bailing out GM and that decision is proving over and over again to be a very good one.
Well, Houston, maybe it's because of this
http://news.investors.com/article/609557/201204271858/navy-admiral-made-bin-laden-decision.htm?src=IBDDAE
Obama took credit for making a decision actually made by someone else. That way, if it all went south, he had a handy scapegoat.
By the way, Obama was golfing when someone else pulled the trigger- literally and figuratively. Obama did not risk HIS life-or career.
The only think he gets credit for is spiking the football.
Ron, Dennis, excellent posts. Romney is so pathetic; he can trot Ann out all he wants to humanize him but a robot is a robot. It's one thing for Mitt to run on his private business experience, it's another to try to claim Obama's success as his own. The Romney bankruptcy would have eliminated the unions and the contracts completely, would have completely gutted GM and Chrysler, would have eliminated the pensions, benefits etc. There is a huge difference between Romney's version of bankruptcy and the managed one President Obama and his team put in place. The union workers took pay cuts, restructured their pension and health care plans and they did it willingly to save the companies. Let's not forget that while at Bain Capital, Romney raided the pension plans of the previously profitable firms that he bankrupted and stuck the US Government with the tab to pick up the pieces. America doesn't need Willard's kind of "experience" in a president.
Steeler Fan, well done!
Thanks nojoe.
Now why would Romney say that in 2007? Did he know that Obama would be President and predict his behavior?
To Obama butt kissing dolts like you. But that's understandable because you have no clear concept of how a capitalistic market works. You just cannot comprehend that poorly run companies go out of business while well run companies are able to weather bad times without getting handouts from the government. Now run along and go play with the Dumb Fux, who looks to know about as much as you do, . . . nothing.
Here is another example of Obama's much vaunted "bravery".
http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/02/china-demands-an-apology-from-the-u-s/?hp
Now, let's see- did this activist somehow accidentally find his way to our Embassy? Did he think he was actually at a McDonalds? Or did he flee there to escape beatings and arrest?
And why, now, suddenly, does he leave of "his own volition"? He just change his mind?
This is what happens when OBAMA has to make a decision. He takes the path of least resistance- and the sycophantic media cheers him on.
He's a disaster- the media is a disgrace.
Or maybe you're just quoting a wingnut web site that's notorious for playing fast and loose with the facts. OF COURSE there was an operational commander who made the final go-no-go decision. But that commander didn't make the decision to send in a SEAL team rather than using cruise missiles or bombers. That was Obama's decision he made against the advice of other people in his administration, including Vice President Biden. And if the raid failed, even you probably understand that had the raid gone badly like Carter's raid in Iran in the '70s, Obama would have taken 100% of the blame, and the Republicans would never let him live down the failure.
Apparently, Obama Derangement Syndrome has ravaged your brain to the point that you're hallucinating. Obama was in the White House situation room while the raid was underway along with Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden and other top aides. He wasn't golfing.
More irony coming from JAS1. She cannot even go into detail on her own assertions, instead just stopping at making broad blanketed statements and insults.
Undoubtedly why she leaves it to the husband (God bless his soul) to bring home the bacon.
Well, Houston, it's pretty funny that all news outlets had the golfing story last year.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42874398/ns/world_news-death_of_bin_laden/t/obamas-golf-shoes-clue-bin-laden-raid/
Of course, this network sought to put it into the best possible light. Brave, stoic Obama plays golf, although the he knows that the single biggest act of his presidency is taking place! What cool, what calm, what a sacrifice he is making! He only played nine holes!
Don't look now, but I'm pretty sure cult membership is way down.
Alan, NJ
Where have you been for the past four years? Romney was running for president in 2007, and he attacked Obama for promising to get Bin Laden if he learned his whereabouts, with or without Pakistan's approval. He also criticized Obama for promising to focus on getting Bin Laden rather than following Bush's policy of a war on the amorphous concept of "terror."
You may be right. But is it worth proving your point by further damaging the economy? Doing the right thing was what was on the President's mind.
Steeler Fan said: The fact of the matter is that today GM is alive and Bin Laden is dead because of President Obama.
Whew!!! What a long list of accomplishments Obama has to his credit. It only cost this nation $5-6 TRILLION dollars in additional debt to accomplish all these things.... MY GOSH, Obama is brilliant! A leader like that is second to none...
Can you post me link that Romney said this in 2007? At that point it was not even likely that Obama would be the Democratic candidate so I find it very surprising that Romney, who was running behind McCain and Giuliani in 2007 would attack Obama who was behind Clinton at that time.
nojonobo
Yeah, they had a golf story, but not the one you made up. The article you linked to in your desperation to smear Obama merely says he was still wearing golf shoes after being out on the course when he went to a meeting to REVIEW the preparations. He was in the White House situation room during the raid. There was a picture of him there that has become rather famous. Are you claiming it was photoshopped?
Alan,
Romney in 2007: “I do not concur in the words of Barack Obama in a plan to enter an ally of ours. I don’t think those kinds of comments help in this effort to draw more friends to our effort.”
http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/05/mitt-romney-obamas-wrong-about-my-old-pakistan-quote.php
Alan NJ
I thought what Romney said in 2007 was common knowledge by now, at least for political junkies. But here's one reference. You can google Romney's "moving heaven and earth" comment yourself, if you want to. But if Romney were true to his word (hah hah), he would NOT have sent in troops to get Bin Laden without the approval of the Pakistani government, and if he told the Pakistanis, Bin Laden would very likely would have had a pressing engagement that took him away from his hideout, but some strange coincidence.
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2011/12/21/mitt_romney_then_and_now.html
Wow! From a guy who wasn't even with the company until 2009.
No not really. The was a world wide concern that if GM alone had gone belly up most of the auto industry would have been drug down with them. Don't forget about all of the other peripheral businesses that would have closed or shrunk. Talk about major job loss.
If you're unhappy with the world's economy now, it would be in even worse shape with out the bail out.
When will our economy start to show more substantail growth? Let's ask Mr. Akerson.
Hmm the house bubble. My memory seems to fails me but... didn't that occur before 2009?
Hi Houston,
These right wingers are full of sh!t when it comes down to the facts. The history books say, "Obama got bin Laden."
I try not to get insulted by the lame brained comments from the left. I usually pity those incapable of thinking rationally.
Houston, however, has just managed to push every red button extant.
Look, buddy, I lost four friends to the "amorphous concept of terror". Your ignorance of the facts reveals just how overloaded your brain circuits are due to Obama worship.
I take great pleasure in knowing just how devastated you will be in November. Not as devastated as the families of the 3000 who perished in an "amorphous concept", unfortunately.
@Houston and Dennis
Thanks for your links guys I stand corrected.
Denis's link actually contains a clarification that is interesting.
Do you drive a Delorean?
P.S. From a comedic standpoint a Romney victory would be fantastic (although devastating for almost anything else). I couldn't imagine how dull 'The Daily Show' and 'The Colbert Report' would be without hypocritical and/or downright false remarks from Mitt, and this would guarantee four years of comedic stability.
That's funny Ruken!
Yes, President Obama deserves 100% credit for killing Bin Laden:
1) he still had to say yes or no; he chose to say yes.
2) if killing Bin Laden was such an easy thing to do, wtf didn't Bush do it then? was Bush:
a) that incompetent?
b) that uninterested in killing the #1 terrorist who was responsible for killing 3000 Americans?
Look, no one is saying that getting Bin Laden was bad, what I personally DO see, and agree with is HOW it was done, period. In our best interest or not is not an excuse to go into a sovereign nation not only uninvited but without telling anyone either, believe me I've racked my brain a thousand times trying to find a way to justify it (the whole end justifies the means type thing) but I don't see it. Could you imagine the holy sh*t fest we would have if some other country did that to us? Their country would be a parking lot the next day and we all know it.
No, Ruken. I drive a Mercedes.
Am thinking about a Mustang, though.looks like I won't have a long line of customers ahead of me.
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-factory-orders-decline-15-in-march-2012-05-02
Since I don't expect you to understand what a four percent decline in durables means- I'll explain that there is a pretty close connection between the drop in factory orders, and the rise in initial claims for unemployment.
Friday will be interesting. I wonder how many people will just drop out of the labor force.
MUSTANG! You go no joe, I'm not a fan of the newer mustang, well other than the newest of the new ones the 2013
motorauthority.com/blog/1056966_spy-shots-2013-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500?fbfanpage
620 hp yeah baby!
I'm actually in the market for a Dodge Charger (no I don't want a challenger that's a "girl" car lol)
NJNB - why do you keep posting the ridiculous "Obama was golfing" lie? Do you think everyone is as clueless and moronic as you? The constant lying by you makes your posts the utter nonsense they are. You are shameless but a good little Republican. Keep deflecting from the fact you have no candidate - and no clue.
Still seeking sanity in the GOP but you, Damage, JAS, etc., all prove there is absolutely none to be found!
Obama/Biden 2012
you're a sick man, dude. Seek help. Obama is committing our grandkids to inherit a war in Afghanistan and all you can do is talk about spiking the football? Really? Get help. Stop embarrassing yourself.
Ruken and Houston - NoJo continues to rant and and rave about the golfing story even though she knows it is a blatant lie - as are most of her posts. She's got nothing - not even the Mercedes she claims. This is a pitiful excuse for a woman who probably loves Ann Coulter - not realizing what an ignorant moron and disgusting piece of gutter trash she is.
Now you see why I am still seeking sanity in the GOP and with NJNB around we all see there is absolutely none to be found. Also, absolutely no class in the GOP!
Obama/Biden 2012
no joe, no bo, nj
You made up a story about Obama playing golf while the Bin Laden raid was underway. You're either a liar or deranged. The fact that you're now trying to hide behind alleged victims of terrorists to cover up your lies is totally despicable. Like you, Bush exploited peoples' amorphous fears of terrorism. Obama went after the actual organization that perpetrated the 9/11 attacks AL QAEDA, and took out their top leader and most of the leaders just below him. As much as you hate Obama, you'll just have to deal with that fact.
Houston,
according to blow jo, the world got to see a photograph of Obama that was photoshopped and aibrushed because if the President was golfing at the time, how could he have been photographed looking like he was about to bite his nails....????
no jo, are you a schizophrenic or just a habitual liar?
Good grief, a kindred spirit!
Yesterday someone said that the picture Obama and Hil-dog in the situation room was faked because there was no real-time video of the raid. We all know that it was audio they were listening to and looking at the compound Bin Laden was in from a distance on video right? Tell me that's common knowledge because I sure as hell already knew that.
Houston - no joe is a liar AND deranged. You don't have to choose!
MGates73
Uh, yeah. The picture was faked in the same lab where they faked Obama's birth certificate, right next to the warehouse where they faked the moon landing.
Houston - pretty sure that was more of no joe's continuous lies from earlier this week. She keeps posting the same nonsense over and over. She's apparently stuck on the merry go round and doesn't have a clue how to get off the darned thing!
Houston: HAHAHA
JAS - sorry I just finished laughing at you trying to "school" me on business. You who probably never worked at anything more than manning the counter at McDonalds. Oh yeah - I know nothing about how business works. I could wipe the floor with you any day of the week. But, I actually have to meet with clients so you should go back to the counter. Someone wants fries with their burger! You really are a ditz!
Obama/Biden
SeekingSanity
Oh, I missed her earlier attempts to promote this lie about a golf outing. She obviously believes in the theory that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it.
Dear Braying Jackassses,
We, the intelligent and capable of doing our own research people are rather tired of listening to braying as an attempt to rebut another poster. You offer no proof that No Jo lied when she stated that Obama was out golfing until twenty minutes before the raid was to commence. Now, we all know jackasses are not noted for great intelligence (hence their being used as symbols representing the democratic party) but, they should at least not advertise their ignorance and stupid by gloating and calling others liars.
We also realize that you braying jackasses aren't eager to do research or form intelligent and reasoned opinions so, being of a compassionate and patient mien, here is a quote from CBS news and two links to sites which prove that No Jo was indeed truthful and confirming your status as obdurate and diminutive members of the genus equine.

.
Listening to President Obama last night, once again I was reminded about why I caucused for and voted for him and will again this November. In early 2002, former President Bush announced Mission Accomplished and basically moved on to invade Iraq; Bush/Cheney and his neoconservative war-hawks had bigger fish to fry. That was really stupid by the alleged republican superiority in foreign policy and military intervention crowd.
While I would like nothing better than to bring all our troops home tomorrow or next week, Bush squandered seven years in Afghanistan because he never bothered to finish what he started. It meant that the next president would have to start over and then finish Bush's mess or leave and return the country to terrorists. Like so many other Bush messes, President Obama has done his best to solve the problems and clean up the load of manure Bush/Cheney dumped on this country.
In 2002, we saw Dan Senor, one of the faces and voices of Bush/Cheney telling us almost daily about Iraq. We were subjected to Senor and his fellow neocons mushroom clouds, WMDs, al-Qaeda is in Iraq lies to tout the virtues of war. Today, we once again see Dan Senor, one of the faces and voices of the Romney foreign policy team, once more preaching the evils of Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc. Dan Senor, once again rises like the Phoenix to tout the virtues of war somewhere, anywhere only this time for Mitt Romney.
We need only look to President Obama's words last night so many years after 9/11 and remember that starting wars is a heck of a lot easier than finishing them, that breaking a country and then walking away as Reagan did in Afghanistan when he covertly armed Osama bin Laden and his insurgents to drive the USSR from that country leads to an unstable country ripe for evil groups to pick the fruit. President Obama's goal is not to remake Afghanistan in our image, not to establish permanent military bases but to simply do what first Reagan, then Bush failed to do--stabilize the country and then let the chips fall where they may.
Well said Jody: Well said.
Jody - Disagree.
Even after 23 years it will all go for naught. Not saying it flippantly, but the day we leave chaos ensues or intensifies even more. We can not nor should we try to save the world. Others have said it better than I...
John Quincy Adams
"Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.
But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.
She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.
She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.
She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.
She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.
The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force....
She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit....
[America’s] glory is not dominion, but liberty."
Yellowdog, while the words of John Adams are lofty and wise, they are for a different time and we cannot apply them to today's world with all its travails.
This is a very complex problem and cannot be solved or walked away from just because we cannot claim victory in the rah rah sense of the word. We broke it, now we have to fix it, even if it only means doing so with glue and sticky tape.
The ramifications of leaving now are so fraught with the perils of the unknown and the unstable atmospheres of countries surrounding Afghanistan. There are many aspects to this decision that cannot be, for security reasons, publicized, and extreme criticism from the right and some on the left is not helpful to the country. Not to do so is giving those who wish us harm, hope, to keep trying to harm us. We have to support our country and our leaders and trust they will make the best decisions to benefit all concerned.
Ron, thank you. Gingerbread Mamma, well said, and thank you for saying it.
Yellowdog Mark, disagree all you want. I suggest you read "Ghost Wars" and then you might understand what I meant about Reagan's failure to at least attempt to stabilize a country that had been ravaged by war with the USSR; Bush failed to keep his eye on the ball and went off to start an unnecessary war. While you may choose to be cynical, I choose to be hopeful and I believe that first Reagan and then Bush failed to recognize that a country destroyed by war must first be stabilized if there is any hope for their future.
I stand by my comment, the very least we owe the Afghan people is a hand up with stabilization and after that, like Libya and Iraq, their destiny is their choice. I believe in a compassionate America, one that accepts the responsibility of trying to fix it after having waged war there for so many years. Liberty and the Afghan version of it will be of their own choosing; I support giving them a stabilized countryside and thus the opportunity of choosing their fate. Without our efforts to stabilize, they have no choice.
To: Ginger and Feisty, Job1, and all my lefty friends. You guys are good at getting information but is all from the way out left. I did go to other sites and did find that they do give credit to the President for given the ORDER to get OBL. I must agree for that and it is true that if the mission would have failed the right would have pin him to the wall. I have also heard from the right that VP Biden want it to wait more, while all others want it to go in. Can any of you send me something to that fact or is the right lying?
Not that it matters, but why do we condemed Mitt for saying something 5 years ago?
Well said Jody on both posts. We are in an impossible situation there, few like war, and like most I wish we could leave, but doing so will only make us less safe.
We have to have our ears and boots to the ground to ensure we can hopefully stay ahead of the terrorists or a failed state, even at that it won't be easy.
GBM - The British couldn't win in Afganistan in the Anglo Afgan wars in the late 1800's. The Soviets could not win in the 1980's. Even Alexander the Great was turned back due in some part to the war weariness of his troops. Yes all different times, different situations... but the same result.
Jody - It appears as if they have chosen their fate. They are either unwilling or unable to choose freedom. We can not force it on them. I say enough is enough, time to get out.
@Jody - I stand by my comment, the very least we owe the Afghan people is a hand up with stabilization and after that...
I will always support our leaders and country but would disagree with whoever proposed this madness and inability to learn from history - McCain, Romney Obama whoever. America owes Afganistan nothing, not one more dollar, not one more death, not one more wound. Makes no difference who makes the decision to stay it is a mistake.
As John Kerry said, paraphrasing here because I can't remember the quote -
How do you ask a man to be the last one to die for a mistake?
Concerned Citizen, FYI, I am not from the "way out left". My comments are my own feelings; they also stem from having read "Ghost Wars" and other books not written by "way out left" people but historians. The story about what took place for President Obama's decision was discussed and written about last year. It is common knowledge that most of the people involved in that decision were against the riskiest plan presented, the one President Obama chose. Most supported just dropping a bomb but President Obama decided that in was in our best interest to have proof and that could only be achieved by sending in the SEALS; President Obama also demanded a backup crew and plan in case something went wrong--a wise decision because one helicopter had problems and had to be destroyed before the SEALS left.
Yellowdog Mark, you're wrong but that's only my opinion. They have not had the chance to make a choice not a real one; we see and hear only the negative side, the bombings, etc.
To: Jody, who wrote: "Concerned Citizen, FYI, I am not from the "way out left". My comments are my own feelings; they also stem from having read "Ghost Wars" and other books not written by "way out left" people but historians".
Thank you Jody for that explanation, I agree that some credit has to be given to the person that when gets presented by the available options take the decision that becomes successful. Back to my question to the ones mentioned on my previous post. It was not directed to you but really to those I named which are always insulting any body that does not agree with them.
My question still remains, Did VP Biden said to wait longer for proof? And if that is true why do they bash Mitt or for that fact any one else?
My two cents: the issue of Afghanistan is not whether or not we should be there, that was decided long ago. The issue is in what condition the government exists when we leave the country.
We have a choice. We can take our time and help the government to establish itself and transition to a fully functioning democracy, capable of governing the nation and providing for the security of its people. The alternative is to cut and run, having destroyed the govenrment and any semblence of security for the people.
When a government is destroyed as a result of war you have situations like what has existed in Japan, Germany, Iraq, Lebanon, Italy and Afghanistan (to name just a few countries.) The US can take the approach is has taken in those countries, i.e. establish a new functioning government or cut and run. The results speak volumes of what works and what does not.
ConcernedCitizen, I don't recall whether VP Biden said those exact words but that would have been one of the points discussed by all the advisors from August 2010 when they decided they might have found him. I believe Biden was against the riskiest choice which President Obama chose. Defense Secretary Gates afterwards said it was the guttiest call he had ever seen a President make and he had served under a good number of them in farious positions.
I suggest you watch Rock Center tonight on NBC; it will be a full hour of interviews with all those present in the situation room and probably a few others. While the right will spin the show as being in the tank for President Obama, we need to remember that this show is to mark the one-year anniversary of OBL's death, the exclamation point finally added to the tragedy that was 9/11.
I think you miss the point and instead are focused on what Biden may or may not have said in the lead-up. This decision began in August 2010; there were many, many discussions with updates, etc. VP Biden may have and probably did suggest that but that is why you have lots of people in the room--to hear the pros, cons, to raise the questions necessary for someone to make a final decision.
As to why Romney should be skewered for his previous comments in comparison to his current ones, it is because Romney was totally against ever entering Pakistan in 2008, and it is also because Mitt Romney is a prolific liar as well as an opportunist--he wants to paint himself today as having the same substance as President Obama yet President Obama in 2008 said he would not hesitate to enter Pakistan if he had actionable intelligence and the Pakistani government would not or could not act. Therein is the difference; Obama said what he meant and ultimately that was the decision made because he believed it in 2008, too. Romney did not think that way in 2008 nor did McCain.
I will also add that one thing I have learned in my 4 plus years of posting on First Read, you need to have thick skin. I have been called by the right far worse things than Feisty has ever said.
YELLOWDOG Mark, the British were trying to rule Afghanistan so was every other invader including the USSR, the US does not want to "rule" Afghanistan. Our challenge is to convince the Afghans that we have no intention of staying and that is why President Obama's speech in that country and his words were very important. Big difference between invading to rule and our situation.
Ain't that the truth Jody!
Politics is a contact sport and not for the faint of heart!
When we gave a time line that we would remove our combat troops from Afghanistan, everyone had a hissy because they said the Taliban just had to wait until we left and then declare they ran us out.
Well, our new agreement lets the Taliban and Karzai's government understand two things - this is their government and situation and it's up to them what they create.
The Taliban can become a legitimate partner in the governing of Afghanistan, but they can not resort to violent means or it will delay the U.S. presence leaving. The quicker they integrate and form a legitimate government, the quicker we leave.
Karzai is now given the space to stabilize his government and cease relying on corruption to prop his government up. But he can not continue his dependency on the U.S. providing total security and if he does not show progress, then it gives us less incentive to stay and support him.
For an unsolvable situation, the team that worked on this new treaty did a masterful job, and that includes Senator Graham and associates. It would have been politically easier to say let's just pull out immediately. All who were involved took the harder road and that took courage. They hit the right note on all of the points of contention.
Now it is up to Karzai and the Afghanistan people, including the Taliban to show the world what their future will be.
Y'all are mean I HATE watching TV! It's so annoying, I always feel myself losing brain cells every time I turn it on. You watch it and then put it in your weekly wrap up Jody. Please and Thank you ;)
Truer words have never been spoken, how do you think us "little guys" feel?
Katheryn it's Al Queida not the Taliban, there is a difference between the two.
1SGFitzsWife4ID - You are so right. I am not sure if a lot of people understand that there is a difference between al Qaeda and the Taliban. If the Afghan government is ever to become stable they will have to include the opposition which is the local Taliban.
The Taliban foolishly either willingly or felt compelled to allow an outside terrorist group base their operations out of Afghanistan. The Taliban earned payback American style and lost their governing role in Afghanistan as a result. And al Qaeda just scuttled off to another rock/country leaving the host country with the consequences.
I bet the Taliban wishes they had never heard the name of al Qaeda.
Yep, thick skin is needed. But then there are people like Feisty who will run and hide when confronted with opposing facts. Personally I could care less about name calling as long as it includes something of substance. Too many on here like Feisty throws in copied content (very little if any substance) and the only thing she comes up with herself is the name calling portion.
Thank you Jody, I did get your point. Here is what I found on what happen on the night of the raid for OBL. For those on the left that use this site to get the info.
Rock Center with Brian Williams wed May 2, 2012 7:00 aM EDT,
By Jessica Hopper, Subrata De and Tim Uehlinger
Rock Center NBC
"Secretary of Defense Robert Gates recommended an air strike with no forces on the ground. CIA Director Panetta supported a raid by Special Forces and so did Secretary of State Clinton. Vice President Biden wanted to wait on further proof that bin Laden was indeed in the compound."
Thanks to God that President Obama did not listen to Biden. My point is that nobody on the left talked about that. However, if the mission would have failed, then Biden would have been correct.
http://rockcenter.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/02/11493919-president-obama-bin-laden-raid-is-most-important-single-day-of-my-presidency?lite
Concerned - everybody on the left that I read did mention directly or indirectly that the information was only 40% - 60% (some reports go as high as 80%) that the intel was correct that it was bin Laden.
And that there were various options given - the safe, the minimal risk and the high risk.
That was the whole point a lot of people made - ultimately - this is the one type of operation where the final decision lies with the President.
It succeeds and he gets credit as Commander in Chief, but it fails and he totally owns it. All or nothing.
You gotta' have the courage to risk your own political career sometimes in order to do what is right for the country.
Obama did.
Thank you Katheryn,
You are not saying anything different that what I said/think. Sure it takes time to get all the info in order to make a decision with everything in life. I just want it to point out that Biden did not want to make the decision that was recommended. Than was reported by what I think is a left source which a gave the link. So if Biden train of thought proved to be wrong why don't we criticize him as we do Mitt.
Concerned - Biden was offering his opinion to his President, just as Gates and Clinton did. They are not the ones who have to make the final lone decision. Romney is running for that position, so how he would approach individual decisions where the sole responsibility is his alone matters.
BTW - Biden also did not want to do the surge in Afghanistan - he is Obama's opposing wall, that's part of his job.
Mitt Romney: Ready for his close-up
By Patrick B. Pexton, Published: April 27
To me, the best predictor of Romney as president is not as the former Bain Capital chief executive, but as the former governor of Massachusetts
As the commonwealth’s CEO from 2003 to 2007, he did all the things that presidents do: appoint senior staff, judges and cabinet members; propose budgets and try to get them passed; communicate his strategy and goals to voters; interact and compromise with powerful legislative bodies and their leaders; sign and implement executive orders and regulations; manage a vast bureaucracy; and be the salesman for his state.
This week I reviewed 700 stories about Romney published by the Boston Globe during his campaign for, and first year as, governor. Patterns emerge in any politician, and they do with Romney, too.
Romney, for example, is nothing if not agile. In his gubernatorial campaign, he tried many messages before finally landing on themes along these lines: I fixed the Salt Lake City Olympics and I’ll fix the patronage and budget deficits of Massachusetts. I’ll veto any tax increases. I support the statewide ballot initiative to abolish bilingual education. And I’m the only guy who stands in the way of an entrenched ‘Gang of Three’ — Democrats controlling the governor’s chair, and House and Senate.
He also, in the final three weeks, ran a relentless and expensive negative TV ad campaign against his opponent, Shannon P. O’Brien, just like he did this year against GOP rivals Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and others. Voters interviewed by the Globe in 2002 said they couldn’t wait for the election to be over and called it the most negative campaign for governor they could remember.
As governor, Romney cut spending, and, as promised, didn’t raise income taxes, but he did close tax “loopholes” on corporations — and he dramatically raised state fees, such as tuition at state universities. He also won unprecedented powers to cut state aid to cities and towns, and then he angered mayors by assigning his lieutenant governor and underlings to meet and explain the plan to municipal leaders.
Indeed, his aloof management style turned off a lot of people. He would do a PowerPoint or major speech on TV to outline broad themes, and then walk away and let his staff do the hard work. Globe columnist Brian McGrory said Romney in his first year (he got better later) didn’t have just a “tin ear” to the schmoozing and politicking necessary to get things done on Beacon Hill but a “steel ear.”
Romney proposed big reorganizations, getting some changes to the Massachusetts human services and transportation departments, but he flamed out completely on a restructuring of the state university system. He did manage, eventually, to get the unpopular head of the system to resign.
Quietly, with an unpublicized executive order, Romney abolished affirmative action in the state, only to backtrack completely when enraged minority groups found out.
He also tried to control information. He discouraged officials from talking to the media, fired almost half of the state’s press secretaries and centralized control of information in the governor’s office. And he tried unsuccessfully to close down the office of the state inspector general, which looks into corruption.
And this teetotaler Mormon signed a bill allowing liquor sales on Sunday.
That’s from just his first year as governor.

Does any of this look familiar. Like the man says patterns start to emerge and Leopard’s don’t just over night change their spot’s.
Like many of our T.P./Republican Governors in recent memory you made a mess. You were just ahead of most of them. You didn’t stick around for a second term and learn your craft and fix your mess. This tells me that the Governorship was just another feather in a Rich Man’s cap.
You can’t run on your record with Bain Capital. To Many Skeletons there I think. Apparently you can’t run on a record of positive accomplishments in your one previous Elective Political Position. So just exactly what are you trying to sell to the American People?
Mr. Romney you cannot seriously think that the American People are going to vote for you because it’s “Your Turn:” You cannot think that there’s enough of the People that’s going to vote for you because your against everything President Obama is for? Seriously?
Quite frankly I’m very Unwilling to vote for another Feather in a Rich Dilatants’ Cap. The Presidency isn’t just some job you can hit with a lick and a promise and then Out-source the rest.
Nope, folks will vote for him because it's still the economy -- and we're not stupid.
Great post, IR--thanks for sharing. We're supposed to vote for Mitt because of his management skills. I've yet to see them demonstrated by his campaign staff. The latest is the hiring of his foreign policy spokesman, followed by his quick resignation. Seems like the reason for this might be anti-gay backlash (what does that tell us about the GOP?) or his Twitter practices. Either way it is an example of Romney's leadership/management skills.
The above facts should concern everyone.
Interesting article, IR. Thanks for posting.
Mr. Bill All that would be fine if Mr. Romney didn't show all signs of taking us back to the Economy that broke most of us. Can't take somebody back to where they don't want to go. So we will get all this other Bushra to cover it up. You only have to look at Romney's record of Job Creation as Gov. of Mass to be reminded that his rhetoric don't match his reality.
Independent Redneck Va.
Thanks for the link. Your anylasis of Romney is pefect. Might I add, not only did Romney leave a mess in MA, he also intends to do again should he become President which he won't as it now appears. Romney's mangerial skills mean outsourcing jobs just like he did with Bain. Why, people fall for this behooves me. When he took office his state was 37 in job creation. When he left it was 47. So tell me, how many jobs did he create?
He thinks only rich people should have tax breaks.
Romney is so out of touch with common people . He doesn't know the average American doesn't have elevators for their cars, have french maids, and real women don't do TV interviews wearing a $1000 tee shirt like his wife.
"This week I reviewed 700 stories about Romney published by the Boston Globe during his campaign for, and first year as, governor.."
Take it from a Mass. native: The Boston Globe, the "bow tied bumkissers of Morrisey Boulevard" has zero credibility, it is a liberal shill for the crooked Democrat Bulger machine.
"Romney in his first year (he got better later) didn’t have just a “tin ear” to the schmoozing and politicking necessary to get things done on Beacon Hill but a “steel ear.”
To Romney's credit, he wouldnt play ball with the rotten corrupt Democratic machine on Beacon Hill...the likes of the 'crooked midget" Dem Senate President Bill Bulger, brother of gangster Whitey Bulger.
Romney did a good job as Mass. Governor, which is why the crooked Dems and their shill newspaper the Globe were upset with him.
IR, excellent post. Mitt Romney outsourced Massachusetts government jobs by establishing a call center in India; makes one wonder which US government responsibilities he would outsource. While I do not resent that Mitt Romney is a wealthy man, I think his methods to achieve that wealth are not the kind of methods we need in a President.
"While I do not resent that Mitt Romney is a wealthy man, I think his methods to achieve that wealth are not the kind of methods we need in a President."
Yes, Romney made his wealth by working for it himself. Which is close to a " hate crime" to moonbats.
Like a good progressive, you prefer not earning wealth yourself, but looting the public treasury and taking from others efforts. Got it.

I copied & pasted this just for you.
Obama leads Romney in Va. with or without McDonnell on ticket, poll says

President Obama has a healthy 51 percent to 43 percent lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the crucial battleground state of Virginia — with or without Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on the ticket, according to a new poll

==============================================
You understand. There is no need for translation; right?
Hey, this is the uber right wing hack Moonie newspaper. What say you?
What will be cool is to see Willard Flip Romney lose Massachusetts.
What is truly amazing is that the GOP establishment is not worrying about winning the WH, they know that is a lost cause, it is that they are now truly concerned that they will lose the control of the HOUSE and maybe even lose seats in the SENATE.
What should have been a particularly easy year for the GOP has turned into turmoil. When the GOP decided to pick up the Tea Party, the GOP sold its soul to snake oil salesmen. Now that decision is coming back to haunt them as most Americans are starting to realize just how crazy many of the Tea Party people truly are.
Whether it is an attempt to outlaw contraception or attempts to destroy Medicare and put the poor out on the streets while at the same time giving tax breaks to the wealthy, the GOP has gone from mainling crazy to a deep heart injection of insanity.
Bob in Virginia - you get stupider every day. Most of us work - don't pat yourself on the back (my guess is your mother or wife supports you). I laugh every time one of your right wingers imply that those of us who aren't stupid - like you - must not work. No, we work every day! And, do quite well - thank you! You do realize that most of the subsidy programs go to Red States, right???
None of us are jealous of Romney's money, etc. What we can't stand is that he made it at the expense of working people. But, you wouldn't understand that - my bad!
Obama/Biden 2012
Kudos to Jon Stewart and The Daily Show for calling out the hypocrisy of the GOP for whining about the President in a segment he entitled...
"You are aware that the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex gives us the ability to store and recall past events as they occurred, right?"
Yeah, now the Republicans want to whine and bitch and piss and moan about Democrats doing THE SAME THING now that the GOP did when President Whats-His-Face did in 2004.
Too freakin' bad!!!
Please. Who really cares about John Leibowitz? Nobody watches his show but liberals (who are already going to vote for Hussein anyway). He basically provides an outlet for liberals to laugh (often forced) every night at the supposed ridiculousness of the right. It makes these libs feel good and provides them with one of their fundamental needs; it makes them feel superior.
His audience (stocked with howling libs like I just described) laughs uproariously and makes him think he's funnier than he is. He's like Phil Donohue. His show ran for 25 years and he thought he was great as long as his seats were filled with shallow liberal housewives and future lesbians. Soon as he got out into the real world and got a more diverse audience on his own MSNBC show, he realized what WE knew all along; he's a friggin' idiot. CANCELLED. Same thing happens with Leibowitz when he's on Bill O'Reilly. Without his robotic, lefty moron audience, he falls flat.

So True Da Noid. One thing the Republicans are great at in whining and fake outrage.
Da Noid
Yeah, now the Republicans want to whine and bitch and piss and moan about Democrats doing THE SAME THING now that the GOP did when President Whats-His-Face did in 2004
I also think they should realize President Whats-His-Face was so phony he got shoes thrown at him in Baghdad. President Obama didn't.

I watched his interviews with O'Reilly. Same thing happened to O'Reilly that happened to Tucker Carlson...Stewart tapdanced circles around both of them.
He certainly makes a more reasoned argument than you.
It's apparent now that all Barack HUSSEIN Obama has to run on is his campaign theme of "(Noun) (verb) bin Laden." Does he really believe he can make that last all the way to November? Does he really believe (like you anti-American lefties) that Americans are stupid?
With Jose Rodriguez and the Navy Seals blowing this narrative up on him, what the hell is he gonna do?
Doesn't matter what Obama "runs on". Mitt Romney has way too may problems with too many voting blocks. And he's got problems with multiple postitions on almost every issue. His only thing to sell is he MIGHT be able to do a better job creating jobs. But then, that will mean closer scrutiny of Bain. And one huge problem no one seems to mention since the primary is over.....There are a TON of Republicans in the south who will not vote for a Mormon. Period. Some will, but many will just stay home. I live in the south, and have heard it stated matter of factly many times. Religion is a huge part of peoples lives here, and it trumps politics.
Damage123
With Jose Rodriguez and the Navy Seals blowing this narrative up on him, what the hell is he gonna do?
Brain damage, Rodriquez destroyed all the tapes on waterboarding. That ought to tell you something. Besides, that he is a republican.
Republicans gotta hate this cycle.
A brief timeline:
Does anyone REALLY think information gathered prior to 2009 assisted in a 2011 raid?
Let's all Thank God that we have President Obama as the leader of the Free World.
Obama and leader should never be in the same sentence. It is like saying a smart Liberal. They just do not go together.
Repeat after me,
Let's all Thank God that we have President Obama as the leader of the Free World. Amen.
In an opinion piece in the Washington Post yesterday, titled, Our do-almost-nothing Congress, by Dana Milbank, we learn that this Congress is the least productive of any in the past 40 years. Quite stunning news. While the right wingers continue to lambast the President on silly inconsequential things, such as his “cool” factor, they ignore the real problems facing this country. One real problem is Congress. Specifically, the Republicans in Congress. Their work ethic is dismal at best when looking at the actual record. Time to vote these obstructionists out of office. As a country we cannot afford to pay people to do nothing any more. These people are literally bankrupting us.
Vote them out and vote in those willing to do the hard work required to move our country forward. Standing still is not an option anymore. We cannot afford it.
And they wonder why their approval rating is so low? Gotta give the Republicans credit for sticking to their plan as formulated on the night of President Obama's inauguration---obstruct, stall and delay in order to hurt the President. Who cares if it hurts the rest of the country too? Certainly not the GOP.
Good Morning DCIA......great post.
When one considers that on Jan 20, 2009, the day that the duly elected President Obama was inaugurated, there were 15 quisling Americans, 13 of them, elected members of the Congress, meet for four hours over dinner at the ritzy Caucus Room, to plot against the President and the American people.
Astonishing and unbelievable as this is, these individuals, vowed to do everything within their power to make the President fail and thereby the country as well.
A book has been written giving an account of what took place, Robert Draper's 'Do not ask what good we do: A look inside the House of Representatives'.
Here are the traitors who attended that meeting:
According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) -- who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.
At the end of the meeting as they were leaving, Newt Gingrich is quoted "You’ll remember this as the day the seeds of 2012".
Since then the party has worked diligently to try to make him fail. Some of these individuals are no longer in government, Ensign for one, resigned in disgrace but their dirty work remains the guiding principles for the defeat of President Obama that the Romney campaign is trying to convert into a win.
What is most distressing of all, there has been little or no outrage in the media and most certainly nothing from the Republicans. None of the family values, good Christians see anything wrong with this, none of them.
Despite these circumstances, President Obama has done rather well and can claim many accomplishments. Just think of what could have been but for these evil plotters. Think about that every time something doesn't go well and how the right cheers every time there is a problem or a bad report. Certainly not country first is on their minds.
GBM---I don't understand the lack of outrage over this exposure of the Republicans either. And it wasn't "politics as usual" as I've heard some people suggest. We as a nation faced the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression and people suffered real harm during this crisis---a crisis brought on by the very people who were plotting how to defeat the President.
Good morning GBM -- Thanks for the terrific post detailing the traitors behind the curtains. President Obama deserves a standing ovation for his ability to withstand such treachery. Quite remarkable indeed.
The authors of this Washington Post article also think that this Congress is the worst in 40 years.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/lets-just-say-it-the-republicans-are-the-problem/2012/04/27/gIQAxCVUlT_story.html
I heard one of the authors on NPR say that this was not only the worst Congress in 40 years, but the worst since before the Civil War, when a conservative Southern Congressman caned an abolitionist senator almost to death. It's been pointed out that Harry Truman's "Do Nothing" Republican Congress did pass the Marshal Plan, which saved Europe from economic collapse after WW II, so it's not fair to those Republicans of an earlier era to compare them to the current crop of scoundrels and clowns.
SF and DCIA...thanks. I keep scouring the Internet, looking and most of all hoping someone will bring this topic more into the sunlight.
It is very demoralizing and appalling knowing this is an actual means to an end being followed for the TP/Republicans and their equally complicit supporters. No one word here or elsewhere, not even crickets, just dead silence. Amazing.
Buh-bye, Newton!
Hey, look at the bright side, you can always go back to being a
lobbyisthistorian for Fannie and Freddie!...and, who knows, maybe you can still find some way to go to the moon.
(We can always hope.)
Yesterday I noted I would defer comment until after I heard Obama's speech on Afganistan.
Shaking my head. Once again we see a President who is acting to garner respect from those who will not give it. For whatever reason he is attempting to get support from the War hawks. He doesn't want to be labeled as weak on defense so he does this. Despite an unwinnable situation and deteriorating conditions he chose to augment 30,000 troops the first month in office. Then he added a surge of another 30,000 before the 2010 election. The idea was to surge in and then slowly begin to pull out. Finally leaving by 2014.
At that time, I thought how can we still be in Afgan in 2014 we got there in 2001? Unfortunately a new milestone was unleased last night. I am totally baffled how Obama can pledge continued troop prescence until 2024. By 2024 my tween son will be out of college, my mortgage will be long paid and I will have just shy of 30 years of marriage.
What new conditions has he seen to believe that staying there an additional 10 years will do anything but bring us MORE suffering and loss of blood and treasure? Was it the riots after Korans were burned, was it the suicide bombs or the attacks on our troops?
Last year he could have used the death of OBL as a turning point to start pulling out. He did not. Last night he could have said we are leaving in 2014. He gives no measurable or end date to judge when this morass will end. Instead he keeps the US yoked to this country and the population who hate us. Instead of getting out of the quick sand he chooses to tread water.
This is why I urge against any new entanglements whether it was Libya or Syria or Iran. Once we go in we NEVER leave.
You have always treated me with respect and added to my thoughts. I’m going to try to do the same with you.
First I agree with most of what you say. I’m still pondering the situation that we find ourselves in and our President’s handling of it. So I want to bring up just two points for now.
One: As a Nam Vet the picture of those folks hanging on those Helicopters on top of the Embassy still haunt me.
Two: Where are the Republican/T.P plans for extricating us from this mess. Instead of arguing over who would have done what with OBL this would seem to be a more productive line of debate.
IR,
First and foremost did not know you were a vet. Thank you for your service. Second thanks for the comment.
Honestly, it appears as if Obama has matched the GOP desire to stay as long as possible. I can not speak to foreign affair implications if we leave - the unknown. However based on my eleven year or so view of this conflict I can predict that things will stay the same. Troops will continue to be shipped in and out. They have done their duty - enough. We shouldn't ask them to do more.
Given our current budget situation, I find it hard to believe that President Obama reached this decision with anything other than reluctance. He can't be happy about the diversion of funds that could be spent elsewhere. I agree Yellowdog that it is a very good lesson to those who urge military action anywhere----easy to get into but so difficult to get out of those entanglements.
Agreed Steeler.
How will this be different than our current occupation of Europe and Japan? If you want us 100% out of Afghanistan, why would we maintain a presence anywhere?
I most definitely agree with bleary on this one.
It is nice to see actual discourse on any thread in this forum rather than the partisan name calling.
I agree with all of you that Afghanistan just once again proves the adage that it is easier to get into a war than to get out of a war.Let's be reeeal careful about Syria and Iran.
But I still feel it was the right call when we originally went into Afghanistan. It was never a "just bomb them in retaliation for harboring al Qaeda and then leave" situation. It has always been more complicated.
I think Afghanistan is a Gordian knot. Until India and Pakistan can settle the tension between them, it will continue to affect the region - including Afghanistan.
It very well may be that no matter how long we stay in Afghanistan, it will revert back to harboring terrorists once we leave. That's an unknown. This way we are giving a better outcome a chance.
But I can guarantee you that if we did not take this harder path - in 5 years, pundits would be saying we should not have just abandoned the situation in 2012.
blearyeyed
Point taken. However, I believe a dramatic decrease in numbers and funding could easily be found in the Defense budget. Could help us with our deficit problems. A presence is warranted in some locations due to NATO allegiances and treaties, but I think it is time they take care of their own. Obama wants Afganis to provide majority of security and defense by 2024. Still hasn't happened in S. Korea and the truce was almost 60 years ago.
The difference with all of these foreign deployments and Afganistan is that they aren't killing us in Japan and Europe. Perhaps by 2024 they will stop killing us in Afganistan, I hope so.
Damn the "leg tingles libs" are running rampant today.
Setting aside the content for a moment: what has happened to the quality of writing in this column? Is there a new writer and/or editor on board? First Read/First Thoughts has always been reasonably literate, but posts over the past few days have been awful, rife with clumsy sentences and slipshod editing. Just one example: "...some of whom seem to be trying to figure out how to attack Obama, but haven’t quite figured it out how yet on this." Painful to read.
DL12....agreed. Seems their journalistic objectivity has gone out the window as the election season progresses. Some can barely conceal their delight when the President is attacked. Their cynicism contributes to the extremely partisan atmosphere which is a pity.
I don't think that's it at all GM, I think it's because we've become a country of 24/7 "news" so they're forgoing grammar, spelling, and sentence structure just to be first.
I'm not impressed. I've hated America's war in the middle east since 2003. Obama had drone strikes in 11 different countries since 2009, and he tripled the number of troops in Afghanistan. No amount of "dancing" can ever bring back all of the innocent people that died under President Bush and President Obama. I think they should both be tried as War Criminals in international court. Obama can stop now, and sure he'll get some votes for it, but the blood is still on his hands.
At least you're consistent, Tyler. Most liberals, including the mindless Obama groupies here, think that ONLY Bush should be tried for war crimes even though Obama has waged the SAME WAR. That's how hypocritical these lefty s**tbags are.
As for ANY American president being tried? No. In fact, why don't you take your anti-American ass off in a corner somewhere and go f**k yourself. For US to be tried, the Islamofacists have to win first. Ain't gonna happen.
Damage,,,, Ron Paul has said nearly the same as Tyler did --- Is Ron Paul a "mindless groupie liberal"?
Troops out in 2014,,, Even Honest John McCain & hard core generals agree with Obama on this delicate dance in Afghanistan
As far as your "Liberal Hating" BS.... Take 2 aspirins & hold them between your frigging legs, it was REPUBLICANS who got us into these messes & FAILED to get er done!
Damage - you so clearly ARE damaged. Your insane ranting and raving is so ridiculous.
President Obama has done nothing you accuse him of. He is getting us out of Afghanistan in a well-thought-out way. He has gotten us out of Iraq and he has started no other wars. Please try to grow up!
No he's just a crazy old racist coot as you would be fond of saying.
For someone who despises Ron Paul as much as you say you do, you sure use him as an example a lot.

Love how Romney was heckled by some woman yesterday and he just left his appearance with Gulliani. Couldn't calmly go on or anything. Just got in a car and left. Now that's so Presidential - can't take anyone putting him down so he just goes home!
Obama/Biden 2012
As soon as it is brought to the attention of republcans that Rudy G. is cross dressing again, Romney will deny even meeting him
He does these things a lot lately,,, Fired a Mexican for working for him while he was campaigning & now firing a Gay man who was his campaign foreign policy adviser
"ETCH & SKETCH"
I wonder if he took his pizza with him? lol
_______________________
and did anyone else LOL yesterday that THERE was Gulliani with a whole 9/11 rerun? seriously, noun - verb - 9/11 even now. Be sure and HUG tight for the camera, RoboFlop!
I loved seeing photos of Mitt & Rudy together---wonder if they discussed Rudy's comparison of Mitt to his prostate cancer doctor last week? There was an endorsement to treasure.
A great base for our drones. Keep pounding al qaeda and the other terrorists. We have been doing it for years now. The terrorists are getting weaker and weaker. Keep the pressure up for 10 more years and hey, you'd be safer when riding trains & flying 747's. Actually, none of the govts in the area want the terrorists around. The war on terror is in fact over. Thanks obama.
Marshal - the war on terrorists will never be over. They are a worldwide crime syndicate much like other crime syndicate, this one is just using religion as it's means. You squash out one and they morph into a new group in another country.
Just like with any other crime group it is a never ending battle.
Damn. Everyone in here is writing books. Or at least reposting what the democrats send out in their emails. Anyone here like the occupiers? Any 99ers ?
Books? What republicans are writing you can usually find on the walls in public bathrooms... You call that books? I call it graffiti that someone else has to clean up
I notice Toasty and Feisty hid from yesterdays story about the Occupy Terrorist. Jim did pop his head up for a few minutes. I think he said something about wanting the rich people dead. But not in those exact words.
I've got nothing against "rich people" I have trouble with "Bushonomics 2.0" & Romney-Ryan ashiest Ayn Rand economic policies that goes directly against Christianity, the Church, Jesus Christ & the Middle Ckass
I have a "BIG PROBLEM" when it's the Ayn Rand Republicans taking the Constitution away from We The People giving our country to the "Corporation"
I have an "EVEN BIGGER PROBLEM" with republicans who have destroyed the GOP along with Reagan, Goldwater, Eisenhower & Buckley by jumping off the cliff with the rest of the extreme conservatives
Oh, & I would say America can't afford cleaning up any more republican messes
After hearing that Occupy tried To commit mass murder against your fellow Americans you said It's time for the barons of corrupt elite capitalism to die off anyways Everyone but republicans wants it to happen. Yeah Jim. When Terrorist try to commit murder, I don't cheer them on.
Jim it sure did sound like you death wished rich Americans. But don't worry a lib won't get banned here. Right NBC?
Can not and will not support in an ELECTION YEAR an extension of the war in Afganistan. My vote counts, bring our military home from that Hell Hole that is sucking up US $$ like a Black Hole. I am a Nam Vet.
"It hasn’t been a great week for Team Romney"
At least according to MSNBC, a full-fledged member of "Team Obama"...
Romney doesn't have good weeks.... His entire campaign is one huge Etch & Sketch
He can't make it though 3 days in any week without opposing himself
Are you aware that Mitt Romney told America on video 3 times since 2007 that he would not order the Bin Laden kill?
Are you aware those comments are taken out of context, Bugs?
Of course not, your knowledge is limited to moonbat talking points..
Out of context? Not on 3 separate occasions
Isn't it grand that we will be able facilitate the green caped corrupt man and his drug dealing country for another 12 years? What else does this country sell on the world market? How many more Americans and citizens of the world do you think will get hooked on herion during these years? In addition to the cost of staying there for 12 more years, what is the cost of lives lost to addiction?
It sure was nice (And Expensive) Of Barack to address the troops ( they vote too). And it was also nice that they broadcast the whole event live back in America.Makes me feel like the troops were just props for a campaign speech. Why can't he just talk to the troops without importing a TV studio. Were they selling campaign pins too.
Props? NOPE
Democrats don't do that amigo ---- Republicans do
Remember when Bush photo shopped all the troops into the background of one of his speech's?
How about that carrier landing, flight suit & "Mission Accomplished" banner?
It was taped for later play on TV. BO was on his way back when it aired. Didn't want to have to be in the nasty place any longer than he had to. Was smelling up his suit.
@Talk: actually, the President of the United States gave an address to the nation, live from Afghanistan.
The fact that he is the Commander in Chief of the US military just drives you GOP, rwnj's crazy, doesn't it.
*** The long goodbye -- we can finally roll the credits on the ‘Sixth Sense: Campaign Newt edition’
The long endless mockery by First Read, who wont let Newt go...clearly MSNBC holds a grudge against Newt, because he famously called the network out as an Obama shill...
I see,,,, People SMACK you with facts & you bitch at who now, "MSNBC's First Read"?
Come on Bob, Quit crying -- Get off your potty chair & pull your pants up,, man up! ----- Republcans have been PUNKING YOU,, they make you look like a FOOL!
No honor in letting an entire political party, the GOP, continue to disrespect you
Jim---There are no words for what the Democrats have been doing to you. The Democratic Party has been doing a great job of brainwashing the American people for years but more so with Obama in power and they have sheep like you to thank for that. However history shows this tactic only works short term and you along with the bias media will see defeat in 2012.
Bob---I can't figure out why you people who have such a low opinion of MSNBC spend any time on its website. If you don't like their policies or standards, why don't you find a place where you agree with what they are saying and how they conduct themselves professionally? Why would you help MSNBC generate revenue by frequenting the site? I'm not saying this in a snarky manner; I am curious.
for all you righties News Flash:Our country since its inception has always done this after a foreign war we still have troops in all of them going back 80+yrs germany, japan.vietnam,we've also rebuilt countries we went to war with, I didnt see you righties go nuts when bush did the same thing dec14th 2008 in Iraq, actually you all applauded it but now that Obama does it your all riled up and saying all these hateful things about him,I dont think what he actually does or says is what bothers you its that hes a dem for 1 he's black for 2 and he's intelligent for 3 with 2 being the biggest issue you wont say it publicly but deep down you know thats it and we call that a...well you and we know what thats called. The man came into an impossible situation worse than any president in our history and despite the obvious obstructionist in the house and senate he's accomplished a lot and if the repugs would have voted along party lines as they have for decades instead of this obstructionist teabag attitude are country would be in good shape we've seen 28 straight mo's of private sector job growth the job loss has been at the fed and state levels and if they were supported by both parties as they usually are unemployment would be at 5% and you all know it or your in denial. The repugs arent the republican party there the teabag party bought and paid for by the koch bros and big money and wont do a thing to help you or your family just look at their plan and tell us one thing in it that would help you and your family, good luck with that one.
The occupy protests have been selling Obama campaign pins. Now that is grass roots. Funded by teachers unions and super pacs. Now they have moved on to terror attacks.
Does not MSNBC know there are other news stories other then Obama election campaign? Such biased news reporting. And why did this community collapse Damage123?? Can not stand an opposing opinion? Talk about censorship but that is what the Left stands for isn't it?
Will - the left is so far up the hind-end of political correctness and messiah worship of the current disaster in the White House that it would tak a crane the size of Mt Everest to pull their heads out. Just look at FiestyRedheads irrational posts that are as regular as a mornig BM and smell worse. All the POTUS CAN DO is dance, since he hasn't accomplished anything of real subtance since taking office unless you call putting this nation 4 trillion dollars in debt, dividing americans on class, racial, and moral lines, kow-towing to every muslim, king, emperor and despot he encounters, gutting the military, paralizing business, eroding our healthcare system, ignoring constitutional law, filling his advisory staff with gays, lesbians, communists, socialists, foreign financeers, and generally despicable people, sanctioning invasive monitoring of american citizens INLCUDING internet monitoring, and taking credit for everything that IS of value such as the OBL raid when he did nothing himself except make a decision that he is PAID to make. I hope he dances right back to Chicago this November. Enough said.
