VIDEO: Mixing politics and policy

President Obama has used Air Force One to fly around the country to events that are ostensibly about policy, but in an election year, there's always politics involved, NBC's Domenico Montanaro reports. Is what the president's doing any different from past presidents – or is he setting a new precedent?

President Obama embarks on a two-day, three-state trip that is about student loans. But, of course, it's not just about policy. This is an election year after all, and young voters are going to be key to the president's reelection hopes.

If I were the GNOP phony fiscal hawks, I would focused on getting their own fiscal house in order before complaining about anyone else!

You got Newt bouncing checks & the MN GNOP posing as squatters...

From AP:

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota's debt-plagued Republican Party has been served with an eviction
notice for its party headquarters after failing to pay its rent payments since August.

The party's landlord filed the notice last week in Ramsey County court and it is scheduled to be heard next Tuesday. Minnesota Republican Party Chairman Pat Shortridge told party members in a memo Thursday that officials are trying to renegotiate the lease to get one that better fits space and cost needs.

The GOP has 21 months remaining on a lease with Hub Properties Trust for space a block from the state Capitol. Shortridge revealed that the rent hadn't been paid in eight months.

The Minnesota GOP owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to various vendors.

The eviction notice was first reported by Politics in Minnesota.

Let me guess, not paying rent for 8 months is Fannie & Freddies fault..? lol

What do they call people like this?

Oh, yeah... DEADBEATS!!!

Here's an inconvenient fact for Mitt Romney and the Republicans: Obamacare will save $200 billion for Medicare by 2016 and $208 billion for Medicare patients by 2020.

Is he not supposed to campaign? Romney is.

Besides, people in this country enjoy coming out to see and listen to President Obama. His crowds are huge and full of smiles and joy where ever he goes. I read this morning that lines were quite long for an upcoming graduation speech by President Obama and the kids in line for tickets were thrilled he was coming.

Come June 2012 ObamaCare won't even exist. So tell the Kos they can use those phoney numbers to say how much ObamaCare could have saved if the right wing court didn't strike down the law.

How do you explain the crowds reaction to Obama at Fenway this weekend, Pat?

When his picture went up on the jumbotron there sure seemed to be an overwhelming amount of boos.

I love that they signed a lease----a binding legal obligation---and then quit paying rent because they want to renegotiate for a lease to better suit their needs. Why did they sign a lease that didn't fit their needs in the first place? What about the rights of the landlord?

Here's an inconvenient fact for Mitt Romney and the Republicans: Obamacare will save $200 billion for Medicare by 2016 and $208 billion for Medicare patients by 2020.

However, on the other side of the ledger the 200B for Medicare (plus more in taxpayer funds) is to be used to subsidize private insurance for Obamacare, and the 208B in patient "savings" are actually paid for by taxes which are being passed to the large pharmaceutical companies as payment in Medicare D.

This is why Obamacare does not actually save any money, before we even look at increased costs. The Administration is using a CBO/Medicare rule to count the savings from Medicare, ignoring the fact that those funds are then spent on Obamacare.

It must have been Pres. Obama's fault that the GNOP signed that lease.....typical GNOP - agree - disagree - renege

GNOP - facts don't matter - "THEY CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"

How can you claim this as a fact? Are you and your source exaggerating just a bit?

Folks like Dumb FUX, Seeking, NewDay and others would call this a lie. You better be careful, they may be watching.

        Pat Boston MA.

Besides, people in this country enjoy coming out to see and listen to President Obama. His crowds are huge and full of smiles and joy where ever he goes.

The other day after Romney insulted regular Americans again during the picnic table meeting in Pennsylvania, I thought: There Romney goes again, spreading cheer everywhere he goes (not). When you have to resort to hate and/or fear-mongering and doom and gloom hyperbole to get elected, well what else should folks expect?

Romney and other GOP/TP candidate's failure to fill large venues, and Herman Cain's recent Tea Party rally or what ever that was -- This is a result of low approval ratings for the GOP and the Tea Party in particular. If only the far-Right fringe would get a clue...

The President will be Santa Claus between now and the election; traveling in the Air Force One sleigh, and handing out the taxpayer's money to all good boys and girls.

Romney, despite all the advantages he had, only won key contests by burying his opponents with negative ads. When he gets into the late summer and early fall, he'll actually find himself in an even fight, in terms of available cash.

Romney is like a boxer who climbs the ranks in one fixed fight after another, none of which prepare him for the title fight in which he'll soon find himself. His glass jaw is his integrity deficit, when even large swaths of his own party - which is about to nominate him for their presidential ticket - don't trust him. Old-time conventional wisdom is that trustworthiness is the number one attribute of a presidential candidate.

I see MSNBC hasn't fed the hamsters again - you know, the ones who power this lash up. I swear I put the above comment in the later discussion about campaign money, and not in this discussion on the video. This website just gets screwier and screwier, with all the bouncing around while ads load, etc.

Paul -- that being the case how can you possibly support President Obama?

He has been nothing but lies and flip-flops (to use the language of the left) for the last many years.

Do you really believe everything the man says? Can you accept the notion that President Obama lies as much as any other politician?

Does Obama lie as much as other politicians? Sure. He is, after all, a politician.

But Romney surpasses that standard. He lies out of habit; he lies when he has nothing to gain from the lie (like the car show lie, for instance). He lies so much it makes one wonder if he knows the difference. I'm not a psychiatrist or anything like that, but he seems to take lying to pathological levels.

No, I can't believe everything that Obama says. But I can't believe anything that Romney says. Huge difference.

That said, I may end of voting for Johnson, if the LP nominates him. Or maybe Obama. Never Romney. The Republicans pissed away my possible support with this guy.

Obama eats dogs. Heck, Obama brags about eating dogs.

I guess Paul is voting for the dog eater. That's his right- but I have to tell you, I'm sure glad I'm not in that cult. The last time that many people were that brainwashed, the KoolAid was spiked- and it wasn't with vodka.

Paul M in Wbridge -- Your post was still valuable despite the MSN news gremlins.

As for Romney, the "business is business, and business is what you do not who you are" BS is why he lies so shamelessly.

Also, many like him blur ethics with legality, which is exemplified by his tax return issues and tax shelters, etc. Just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean it's moral/ethical or patriotic. Romney has been in the greed/money game so long he can't tell the difference.

no joe, no bo, nj -- Really? Seriously?

You need to get out more often. People eat all kinds of things, especially in China, but also Indonesia (where the president lived for a time as a boy), and heck I'll bet you've had cat or dog sometime in your life and didn't know it!

Hurry, you're missing out on the new fishing expedition about the Secret Service agents who stayed in a hotel where the president stayed too -- Sure the stays were on completely different dates but the Glenn Beck chalkboard never disappoints!

Fiesty, thats the best post you could make on this topic to campaign for Obama? You attack a state GOP lease? Wow, that was a real gotcha moment. Havent you noticed that the same 25 posters are here everyday? Why not have some attempt at debating the nation's issues and the differences on various policy matters by each of the candidates? Campaigning and personal attacks are being wasted on your peeps because they have already read the same think progress article that you are cutting and pasting from. We already know who you are going to vote for but I would prefer to hear the critically thought out reasons why? Have you read some of these campaign posts from your peeps lately? Its like reading the bigots who rationalize over and over the new world order, black helicopters, the jewish banking conspiracies or the rich are stealing it all from the poor crap that no one really believes anyway except the few bigots who espouse these views. Do yourself a favor and provide some thoughtful rationalization of Obama's policies and provide less campaigning, you wont sound so shrill and small minded.
