President Barack Obama heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. and Boulder, Colo. (on Tuesday) and Iowa City, Iowa (on Wednesday) to talk about student loans.
Obama focuses on the youth vote… Romney takes a VP test drive of sorts with Rubio… Breaking down the Obama-vs.-Romney money chase… Obama’s left jab at Romney… Huntsman blasts the GOP… And Hatch survives Utah GOP convention but still faces a primary (but that’s a MUCH better position than Bob Bennett was in).
*** Only the young: As we begin the third week of the young general-election campaign, there are two different tracks of stories -- Team Obama is focusing on the youth vote, while Team Romney is conducting another round of veepstakes auditions. We’ll start with the youth vote. President Obama heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. and Boulder, Colo. on Tuesday, and Iowa City, Iowa on Wednesday to talk about student loans. They’re all “official” trips of course, and a Jimmy Fallon appearance is sprinkled in as well. And today, the Obama campaign is holding a conference call on the subject at noon ET. “While the president is calling on Congress to stand up for our college students, Mitt Romney and the Romney-Ryan Budget would undercut them -- letting student interest rates double and gutting critical programs that help students go to college and graduate,” the campaign says in a press release. As our NBC/WSJ poll showed, Obama is leading Mitt Romney among 18- to 34-year-olds, 60%-34%. But the problem for Team Obama isn’t support; it’s enthusiasm. Per an analysis released by NBC/WSJ co-pollster Bill McInturff (R), 63% of this age group expressed high interest in the election in our April ’08 poll. Now just 45% of them are, according to our latest survey. That’s a challenge for the Obama campaign. It’s the biggest drop-off in “interest” of any key voting group we’re tracking.
The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza and Politico's Jonathan Martin discuss possible Mitt Romney running mate options.
*** Romney takes a test drive with Rubio: Meanwhile, Romney is holding another veepstakes audition of sorts -- campaigning with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at a town hall in Aston, Pa. at 12:55 pm ET. This comes after Romney has already stumped with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and South Dakota Sen. John Thune. In addition, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman has recently campaigned solo for Romney in Pennsylvania. For Romney, doing these public auditions, especially with folks who could help with a specific weak voting bloc, is probably a decent way for the GOP challenger to get attention for some of his travels. Expect more of these events with different short-listers. By the way, Jeb Bush opened the VP door slightly in a Newsmax interview. “Well I’d consider it, but I doubt I’ll get a call, and I don’t know if it’s the right thing for me to do,” he said. “I didn’t run for president for a similar kind of reason, so I’m all in to try to help him get elected.” But then we saw conservative commentator George Will try to close that door. “If Jeb Bush is to be Romney’s running mate, it would mean that in seven of nine presidential elections there would be a Bush on the Republican ticket,” he said on ABC yesterday. “And it gets hard to argue that we’re not a tribal society at that point.”
*** The money chase: On Friday, we found out that Obama had raised $35 million for his campaign in March (with another $18 million raised by the DNC and other committees) -- which was Obama's biggest fundraising month of the cycle so far. The Obama camp also reported having $104 million in the bank. By comparison, the Romney campaign last month raised $13 million and has $10 million cash on hand. So Obama, as of March 31, holds a 10-to-1 advantage in available cash. But when you factor in the major political parties (DNC, RNC) plus the top Super PACs (the pro-Romney Restore Our Future, the anti-Obama American Crossroads, and pro-Obama Priorities USA Action), Team Obama’s cash-on-hand edge drops to less than 2-to-1, $147 million to $87 million. And that doesn’t count the 501c4 groups (like Crossroads GPS, Americans for Prosperity, and American Energy Alliance).
*** Obama’s left jab at Romney: Don’t miss this New York Times piece from over the weekend, which noted that Obama and his campaign are no longer attacking Romney for being a flip-flopper; instead, they want the former Massachusetts governor to own the conservative views he expressed during the GOP primary season. “For Mr. Obama, the decision to start going after Mr. Romney from the left is as much a logical evolution as is any attempt by Mr. Romney to move to the center, in particular Mr. Romney’s effort now to try to woo Hispanic and female voters who may have been alienated by some of the talk coming out of the Republican primary.” These next three months of the campaign are mostly about who is going to win the fight to define Romney -- Team Obama or Team Romney.
The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd talks about the Obama campaign's struggle to clarify their message about Mitt Romney and proceed with the general election.
*** On the trail: A day before tomorrow’s primaries, Mitt Romney stumps in Pennsylvania -- first with Tom Ridge in Township, Pa. and then with Marco Rubio in Aston, Pa… Ann Romney delivers remarks at the Prescott Bush Awards Dinner in Stamford, Ct… And Newt Gingrich stumps in Delaware.
*** Other odds and ends: Vice President Joe Biden is in the all-important battleground state of Florida, visiting Everglades National Park… And the RNC has a web video hitting Obama over having lobbyists and former lobbyists work in his administration and donate money to his campaign.
*** Huntsman blasts the GOP: Is it possible that Jon Huntsman could play a bigger role in the general election than he did during the GOP primary campaign? “Former Republican candidate Jon Huntsman took a battle axe to his own party, comparing it to China's Communist Party and criticizing it's standard bearer in a wide-ranging interview at the 92nd Street Y Sunday night,” Buzzfeed reported. Recounting his first experience on the presidential debate stage in Iowa last August, Huntsman says he was struck by the question ‘Is this the best we could do?’ Huntsman, the former Utah governor and once President Barack Obama's Ambassador to China, expressed disappointment that the Republican Party disinvited him from a Florida fundraiser in March after he publicly called for a third party. ‘This is what they do in China on party matters if you talk off script,’ he said. Huntsman said he regrets his decision to oppose a 10-to-1 spending cuts to tax increase deal to cut the deficit at the Iowa debate lamenting: ‘if you can only do certain things over again in life.’”
*** Hatch survives convention vote but still faces primary: The good news for Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch: He accomplished something that Bob Bennett was UNABLE to do -- escape the Utah GOP convention. The bad news: Because Hatch didn’t get 60% of the vote (he got 59%), he’ll face a primary challenge on June 26 from state Sen. Dan Liljenquist. While Hatch would have definitely preferred to avoid the primary, do remember that polling in 2010 showed that Bennett probably would have won a statewide primary; his challenge was getting out of the convention.

The party who jumps up & down pounding their chests while yelling "personal responsibility"
sure has some precarious credibility issues.
No one can put the "V" into victim like the GNOP! WHAAAA – why is everyone always picking on THEM?
Why does it not surprise me this strategy would play to the neocon faithful?
Take a peek below to listen to Willard the Waffle in action… AGAIN

From all appearances, Mrs. Willard was a quick learner when it comes to playing the sucker card like
her old man!
Perhaps it's time for conservatives to come clean and admit they're full of
MittIT!!!My Turn Next:
Recently Ann Romney uttered the words that it is Mitt's "turn" to run for President. Now this is not surprising as it was once Robert Dole's turn, then it was John McCain's turn, and after losing to McCain, Willard is under the impression that it is now his turn. That is just the way Republicans do things: Get in line and wait for your turn. And because a potential candidate may have to wait 4 to 8 years; the party continues to get safe, conservative, grumpy old white guys.
Washington politicians describe the Office of the Vice-President as the most boring, unwanted job conceived by the framers of the Constitution. Yet in West Palm Beach Florida, former governor Jeb Bush said he would CONSIDER running as a vice president with Romney. He followed by weasel words saying that Marco Rubio would be the best choice and he hopes Rubio would accept the offer.
Jeb Bush is a smart politician (much smarter than his brother) so why would he even consider the V-P office? Jeb knows that if Romney would win, he (Jeb) would be stuck in the most boring job in Washington. But if Romney loses, being the V-P candidate would catapult him to next in line for the 2016 election. Forget Christy, Daniels, and all the other wannabes; Jeb Bush would be saying it's my turn next. It also says that Jeb Bush is banking on Romney losing this election.
Wonder what lies the President will tell those soon to be graduates when they are seeing stories like this every day:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The college class of 2012 is in for a rude welcome to the world of work.
A weak labor market already has left half of young college graduates either jobless or underemployed in positions that don't fully use their skills and knowledge.
Guess he can claim that the GOP is waging a "War on Students", again.
Problem is, these graduates are the ones that were promised hope and change when they voted in their very first Presidential election in 2008.
Pretty sure this is not what they thought Hope and Change meant.
AP - President Obama’s reelection prospects are improving with the employment rate in swing states. Unemployment in the 14 states likely to decide the election dropped at a faster rate than the country as a whole and with more jobs comes a greater support for the president.
Analysts are upgrading their economic forecasts and say that the economy will grow at a faster pace than earlier predictions suggested.
A USA Today survey of 50 top economists puts the unemployment rate at 8 percent by the fourth quarter and shows 2.5 percent overall economic growth, a higher figure from estimates three months ago.
Looks like another one of those Old Europe socialist experiments is collapsing under its own weight. And anyone who thinks America, with Trillion-dollar-plus deficits as far as the eye can see, will somehow avoid the fate of Old Europe is a fool.
Another One Down? Dutch Government Near Collapse
CNBC.com
| 23 Apr 2012 | 08:41 AM ET
The Dutch government’s failure to reach an agreement in talks to achieve tough spending cuts could see ratings agencies cut the country’s prized AAA-rating and nervous investors push up the country’s borrowing costs, and it will also have wider implications for the euro zone as a whole, analysts said on Monday.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte will meet the Dutch queen on Monday afternoon to tender the government’s resignation, Dutch broadcaster RTL reported.
Dutch Finance Minister Jan-Kees de Jager sought to reassure investors on Monday, telling CNBC in The Hague that the Netherlands had always displayed budget discipline and would continue to do so.
"The perception of financial markets is always important...and that's why I also have the message for financial markets that for decades the Netherlands have shown a solid fiscal budgetary policy and this will not change. In any government we have seen in the past we have seen solid policy and this will remain in the future," de Jager said.

Loved, loved, loved Keith O's appearance yesterday morning. Hope to see more of him. He's an honest man in a media full of dishonesty and cowing down to the GOP.
Peggy Noonan and George Will are so GD ridiculous. Ryan a good VP candidate?
How much more do they want to rob and take away from the American worker and their families?
To what end? There aren't any jobs for them when they graduate:
Romney is interested in job creation. Obama is interested in increasing handouts.
Oh dear! Dennis, Bev and I saw the same story! But it's good news so seeing it three x is cool.
Sorry for the triple post first read is acting up. It would not post at first then whe it finally did it posted 3x .
Fiesty and Ron, great posts to start the week out.
Her's hoping this posts
Now why would he possibly think that?
Feisty, I read a lot of websites this weekend and what struck me were the comments by people stating that it looks like David Gregory is now quite comfortable shilling for the GOP. He's seems happier now that he doesn't have to hide it.
Sad isn't it?
So, let's all remember in November to Vote in all Democrats, and send the Party of NO packing.
Obama - Biden 2012.
Think they'll play "Lyin' Ass Bi*ch" when Obama walks on like they did for Michele Bachmann?
Good Morning Pat Boston MA.
I'm glad you posted the employment trend is moving on up too. I'm wondering how FOX & the right wing echo chamber spin this improvement; don't forget the drop in gasoline.
Pat,
It sure is, I have been saying that for years...
I don't have a problem with journalists like Larry O' & Rachel who make no bones about it they are lefty liberals.
What I do have a problem with is, those who claim to be neutral when their bias couldn't be more obvious!
Looks like Chuck Todd isn't too far behind him! *shakes head*
***waves to my GF Bev***
It was reported locally this weekend, that Obama has raised ten times the amount Romney has, in the state of Maine. Ron Paul comes in second in donations, after the President, and Romney third.
Bear in mind, we are not Vermont. Maine is a purple state. We currently are suffering through a Tea Party governor and a Republican legislature. Theoretically, Romney should appeal to Mainers, having New England ties, as former governor in MA, and owning a vacation home in NH.
But. He. Doesn't.
Part of it may be his personality, but I think it's also because we are seeing what it's like to live under the Republican agenda, and it ain't pretty. In other news: Maine is unique among the New England states in that our unemployment number has not gone down: see Tea Party governor and lack of focus on JOBS.
Ha!
Even First Read has to put "Official" trips in quotes because they know it is a sham!
How in the world is a spot on the Jimmy Fallon show an official trip?
I didn't even know Fallon was still on the air!
What's next, Wendy O Williams?
Obama will give them the perception that he will forgive their loans. Of course. after the election, he'll have more "flexibility" and yet another promise will be broken. Of course these young folks will forced to buy their own health insurance when they are 27. Those payments, on top of their student loan payments they must repay, will certainly give them second thoughts on voting for Mr. Hope and Change.
A new study from the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism shows that of all the presidential candidates during this election cycle, President Obama has had the least favorable coverage by the news media. Since January, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney has actually enjoyed twice as much positive coverage as President Obama.

White Collar Auto
Wonder what lies the President will tell those soon to be graduates when they are seeing stories like this every day:
Ummm, Stiff Collar, I think you will have to wait until whatever horror tale Fox Noise conjures up for you scary right wingers to believe.
I sure hope the Hispanic People of this country realize that Rubio is just a part of the dog and pony show to elect a President who could care less about them after the election.
If your hurting now you will be worse off come Dec. of 2012 if the Republican clown troop is allowed to continue to control the Government.
Mitt isn't really a threat. The Republican Congress and Senate are the biggest problem.
Great work Dennis. I see you've taken as a project exposure of the "so-called Liberal media." And well you should, that talking point is shown as a lie every day by the work of the Beltway media.
When reading conservative poster comments from Albany Joe to JS1, this quote comes to mind: "An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out." Rene Descartes.
Paul Krugman:
Just how stupid does Mitt Romney think we are? ….. the question was raised with particular force last week, when Mr. Romney tried to make a closed drywall factory in Ohio a symbol of the Obama administration’s economic failure. It was a symbol, all right – but not in the way he intended.
….Mr. Romney somehow failed to mention: George W. Bush, not Barack Obama, was president when the factory in question was closed. Does the Romney campaign expect Americans to blame President Obama for his predecessor’s policy failure?
Yes, it does. Mr. Romney constantly talks about job losses under Mr. Obama. Yet all of the net job loss took place in the first few months of 2009, that is, before any of the new administration’s policies had time to take effect. So the Ohio speech was a perfect illustration of the way the Romney campaign is banking on amnesia, on the hope that voters don’t remember that Mr. Obama inherited an economy that was already in free fall.
…. Mr. Romney wants you to forget that Mr. Obama has faced scorched-earth political opposition since his first day in office. Basically, the G.O.P. has blocked the administration’s efforts to the maximum extent possible, then turned around and blamed the administration for not doing enough.
Mr. Krugman, Mitt Romney is a liar. We will have an out and out liar in the White House if he succeeds in November. He's like the people who ran the banks. Liars and corrupt. He's the guy who laid people off so he could make millions.
He is the guy who will follow the GWB Admin policies. Because he has no policies of his own.

I hope you will stop lying and spinning unfathomable yarns. If you must spin, at least let your nucleus attract you in a positive direction like a fact check website; instead of out of this world.
Glad to see the New York Times is on board.

Willard has already stocked his campaign full of "W" reruns!
Including this little 'jewel';
Meet the new boss... same as the old boss...
Dennis, there is no liberal media. The liberal media of old got rich and now don't much care about working families. They are all inside the beltway socialites and gossipers.
When you have people like Keith Olbermann, Lawrence O'Donnell, Ed Schultz and Martin Bashir going after the GOP, you have to admire them. They make big big big money and would benefit mightily from Romney policies.
But they have too much integrity. Something the media has lost.
This election really is about the future. Not the past, which is what the GOP wants. Why, I have no idea. I guess they aren't 21st Century thinking people. It's easy for them to make up an image of an America that wasn't. It was time of no civil or equal rights.
That's what they want to go back to. All the rich white men. Not surprising.
What was best about the America of past were the unions and how they built America. And now they are ridiculed just like everything else that was great about America.
So, in the two years that Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the White House what exactly did they do for the Hispanic People of this country?
Since 2010 the Republicans have controlled half of Congress while the Democrats have controlled the other half and still controlled the White House, and yet you claim they'll "continue to control the Government"?
Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.
- Thomas Paine
I am in my mid twenties and it is very likely that I will not vote for President Obama and good luck getting young men/women out to vote this year.
The reason our government is full of a bunch greedy and lazy individuals is because a majority of people out there either vote straight democrat or straight republican. Most do not bother researching politicians running for office.
This individual running for office is democrat so I am going to vote for him/her and I know nothing about him/her.
Or
This individual running for office is republican so I am going to vote for him/her and I know nothing about him/her.
Everyone should research every candidate and vote for the individual he/she believes will best represent their district/state/country. Not vote for them just because he/she is republican or democrat...stop being lazy.
Romney is a liar! And the list just keeps growing and growing .....

And other similar thinking people (you know who you are). I just finished reading "DRIFT" by Rachel Maddow. It's a must read for any intelligent, politically aware person. One of the major debates is over the use of "Presidential Powers". There uses and abuses. President Obama will use these powers to get things "done" in a do nothing Congress who's goal is only to do "nothing" for our Country and it's people. Very same powers President Reagan and Bush Senior and Junior used many times. Democrats and Independents please read this book. Republicans will probably hate it, but read it anyway and educate yourselves.
Obama in 2012.
What's up? What's down?
The improving economy is swinging the pendulum in President Barack Obama’s favor in the 14 states where the presidential election will likely be decided …. What’s made the difference is that unemployment has dropped more sharply in several swing states than in the nation as a whole. A resurgence in manufacturing is helping the economy – and Obama’s chances – in the industrial Midwestern states of Ohio and Michigan.
…. After an agonizingly slow recovery, several swing-state economies are finally accelerating:
- The job market is improving in Michigan and Ohio. In Michigan, unemployment fell to 8.5 percent in March from 10.5 percent in March 2011. And in Ohio, it dropped to 7.5 percent from 8.8 percent over the same period….
Many blue-collar workers in Ohio and Michigan credit the federal bailout of General Motors and Chrysler for saving tens of thousands of auto industry jobs … "There’s a feeling the administration went out of its way to protect jobs that are very important," says Paul Allen Beck, a political science professor at Ohio State University…
Unemployment is down over the past year in the 10 other states the Associated Press identifies as swing states: Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Once you get time you must read this artlicle. I remember Keith calling the Koch brothers the Kochoctpolous.

Charles Koch, about 10 years ago, compared himself to the theologian Martin Luther and he said he’s bringing a right wing radical free-market reformation to this country.
So, you know, like you said, Fred Koch, the father, did this to President Kennedy, funding the John Birch Society. They did it to Clinton, funding a lot of the attack groups and the rallies on Capitol Hill, smearing Hillary Clinton. They’re doing it to Barack Obama. But they’re going to keep doing it.

They won't if; we fight back!!!! We have the Color of Change which got rid of Glenn Beck. We have the NAACP, Revs AL & Jackson, and so many other progressive grops
This is why Trayvon Martin is so important. Not only does it exposue the deadly consequesences of "Stand your Ground"; but also the greed and callouness of right wingers behind it; the NRA, ALEC & the Koch Bros. who want to suppress our vote. We can not; I repeat, can not allow the this scions of hate, and greed suppress our vote and return America back back to Civil war days; the Wild, Wild Wild, West and Jim Crow. Neither can we continue to allow them to destroy the earth.
I think our youth are smarter than Obama gives them credit for, they know a line of crap when they hear it, granted they got caught up in the "hope and change" but now see through that. Obama is an epic failure, and only the mindless minions are still making excuses for him.
Obama, one and done! Maybe he could work for Habitat for Humanity with Carter....but I don't think he would get his hands dirty.
California Tom, I plan on picking up Rachel's book this week.
I just finished a 1,000 page book on WWI, the Russian Revolution and the Russian Civil War. What a trip that was going back to those days. My goodness. Amazing. LoL.
Now I just have to clear my brain for a few days and will dive into Rachel's book next weekend. Glad to see you liked it. It's a bestseller!
After her "tar baby" comment they should be playing 'Racist B*tch'.

Romney gets bad press when the media report exactly what he says word for word, and when the liberal media gets really nasty, it shows video clips of him interacting with the common folk, like his disastrously boorish "Cookiegate" performance.
Mr. Obama is officially on his suck-up tour for the 18 to 22 year old 'kiddie vote'...which helped put him in office a few years back. Can't see the same level of hysteria happening on America's campuses this time...but ol' Barack will be out there on the quad, wiggling his finger at the kids and telling them how horrid their lives will be if they don't help him keep his job, whether they themselves will be able to find a job or not.
The irony is that it is the youth that stand to suffer most by Obama's policies… policies that will destroy and future they might have had.
Crystal, the 2012 grads voted for the very first Presidential Election in their life in 2008.
Hope and Change they were promised. A transformational President. Ha!
They gave this administration 4 years to get things straightened out so they would graduate with an opportunity to go out into the world and make something of themselves.
All this President has done is insure that these kids will be living in their parents basement sponging off of their Health Care, until they are 26 years old.
Don't know if they will vote for Romney, but they sure aren't going to get up and Vote for Obama again.

Fox's Voter Fraud Special Light On Voter Fraud
April 22, 2012
Fox News' latest attempt to promote discriminatory voter ID laws is an hour-long special featuring no credible cases of in-person voter fraud that could have been prevented by such laws.
Voter ID laws are the only remedy for fraud that the host Eric Shawn presents in the special, Fox News Reporting: Stealing Your Vote , which postulates that "voter fraud is still rampant" and ran on April 21 and 22. Shawn is Fox's point person for election fraud coverage, regularly appearing in segments over the last 18 months that conclude with the correspondent urging viewers to send tips to the network's voter fraud email hotline, voterfraud@foxnews.com .
In promoting on the voter ID laws that Fox News has regularly hyped, Shawn finds only one supposed claim of in-person voter fraud that could have been prevented by such statutes: the allegation that nearly 1,000 "dead" people voted in South Carolina. Shawn reports:
SOUTH CAROLINA GOV. NIKKI HALEY (R): Let's be clear, I don't want dead people voting in the state of South Carolina.
SHAWN: And authorities say there is evidence that dead people voting is a real problem, according to a statewide investigation by South Carolina's Department of Motor Vehicles. In January, it found that 953 ballots were cast by voters who are deceased. But the state Election Commission director disputes those findings.
The state's Election Commission director didn't just "dispute those findings"; the commission investigated and debunked them . Reviewing the 207 contested votes from the 2010 election, the commission found that 106 were clerical errors by poll workers, 56 were errors by the DMV, 32 were cases of people being credited as voting when they hadn't, and three were absentee ballots cast by voters who died before Election Day. The commission said they had "insufficient information" regarding the final ten contested votes, but found no evidence of fraud.
That case predictably collapsed after being repeatedly hyped by Fox News.

Yea, right; FOX NOISE the clouds make Charmin toilet paper too!
Cynthia: Great list that will keep on growing. How will you manage all those lies by convention time, or election time? So, so many lies.
How can anyone be surprised that Mr. Obama has not received "favorable" press coverage lately...what has he done to actually earn some ??? Same old hectoring speeches over and over again and his grand "Buffet Rule" that he'd said earlier would battle the nation's deficit for "the next ten years" now turns out to be just another "gimmick"...that's Mr. Obama's term, not mine.
Why Young People Won't Vote for a GOP Candidate...
1. We don't want to see anymore of our friends killed or maimed in never ending wars.
2. We don't think anyone will turn into a pillar of salt if gay people are allowed marriage.
3. We have friends, family, and concern for more people then just old, white, dudes.
4. We've been taught science and believe in it, ALL THE TIME, not just when we fly somewhere or are told to jump off of bridges.
5. We don't want to live in an oligarchy.
This election isn't so much about voting FOR Obama, as it is voting AGAINST the GOP/TP.
Well Sarah, I believe you are one of the first of the Libs here to admit that there is nothing about Obama that is worth voting for.
Welcome to the light.
Advocacy group files IRS complaint against ALEC
Advocacy group Common Cause said Monday it had filed an IRS complaint accusing ALEC of masquerading as a public charity. ALEC is formed as a nonprofit that brings together lawmakers and private sector organizations to develop legislation and policy.
ALEC has said its work is not lobbying, but Common Cause disagrees.
Several companies who have previously supported ALEC financially have dropped out in recent weeks amid backlash tied to the group's support of "Stand Your Ground" laws, such as the one cited as a defense in the shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
A spokeswoman for ALEC did not return a call seeking comment

Wonderful, I told you if we fight back we can change things.
Last election literal hordes of people who usually don't vote came out to make a statement by voting for our first black President, riding the wave of Hope and Change. Unfortunately all we've seen is politics as usual in DC. All hope for change has vanished.
Obama will not be able to count on these peoples votes this time around, because they'll all stay home over-whelmed with the usual sense of hopelessness.
Never the less, Obama probably will be elected again, as there is virtually no competition.
Crystal-our youth is smart enough to see that Mitt and the Republicans are only about money and corporations and have already denied women equal pay in Wisconsin with failed Governor Scott Walker. They will also see that the Romney/Ryan budget will take away their future Social Security and other benefits and use this money to give the 1% and corporations more tax cuts. With these tax cuts they will continue to not create jobs. The youth of america is much smarter than you and the majority of them will be voting Obama.
WAC,
Can you quote where I said that? Don't twist my words. There are things that are worth voting for and things that aren't, when it comes to Obama. You know, like he's SANE, that's something worth voting for. I'll never be 100% happy with anyone, but the GOP/TP and have lost their fu**ing minds.
The GOP/TP hasn't even given me the option of examining those things about Obama, because the only alternative to Obama/Democrats, is "WACKO".
He thought when you said: "This election isn't so much about voting FOR Obama, as it is voting AGAINST the GOP/TP." meant that you really don't care too much about Obama but the GOP scares you. I can see how he misunderstood that.
For me, Obama isn't the perfect choice. But the GOP does scare me.
Gladly:
This election isn't so much about voting FOR Obama.
The sad truth, Sarah, is that many young people probably just won't vote this time around. After being prommised that things would be different with this President they just got more of the same old Washington BS.
Eventually they will vote again, but probably not this year.
White Collar Auto
Wonder what lies the President will tell those soon to be graduates when they are seeing stories like this every day:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The college class of 2012 is in for a rude welcome to the world of work.
Pretty sure this is not what they thought Hope and Change meant.
Yup, guess that's why the Ron Paul youth cult hasn't shown up for Paul. Guess they don't like the idea of you right wingers clapping for unemployment to rise to 10%.
They are educated and seemingly recognize right wing lies now that the economy is improving; unlike the "WHACKO" recalcitrant right wing old pale males.
I am a young individual (mid twenties), former peace corps volunteer, have a great job, and i will not just vote straight democrat. I will probably not vote for President Obama
JUSTICE FOR DANIEL ADKINS!!!!!
السلام عليكم to my main Muslim Republican Brothers, Michael 1969, White Collar Auto and hs321!
ä½ å¥½ Feisty, Beverly, and Ron Indiana, my Communist Party enemies!
Huntsman said this: "I don't want a 'small-minded' GOP."
:o SACRILIGE! Another infided preaching that there is something Republicans should learn more than the Koran! EVERY Republican knows that the Koran is our book and should be made law for the United States! Come my Republican Muslim allies! This Republican party represents all our ideals, and this Huntsman has got to be a Godless Commie in disguise! Otherwise, why would he work for Obama! Just because our military does, it isn't like they have a choice. Huntsman can freely choose to follow our Republican Koran and yet doesn't!
By the way, you Commie Dems, I would like to point out that your Party member, Frank Lautenberg is appproaching 1000 years old and has pissed off my main man, Muslim Christie. You tell me you are for freedom, yet you gentrify your 'politicians.' I would like to remind you Lautenberg supported SOPA and PIPA. That is, until we had a good old Muslim extremist uprising and made him stop!
Iran has nothing on the United States! A vote for a Republican is a vote for an Islamic America! Mullah Romney in 2012!
It was Congressional republicans that promised Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, and then the only thing they did was name things after Ronald Reagen, don't think for a moment people don't realize who is responsible for slow job growth and no investment in infrastructure. By the way in spite of what they may say there won't be many seniors voting for Romney and the Ryan plan to cut their benefits, they will talk a good game then go into the voting booth and vote for Obama or not vote at all. Don't kid yourself there is an awful lot of poor white republicans who just love their disability checks, food-stamps and medicare, the trailer parks and Wal-Mart are chock full of them. There is plenty of welfare handed out to those good old red states.
The above is the Dumbest statement of the Day. So, 69,456,897 are on food stamps and welfare.
Facts Red States receive the bulk of food stamps and welfare.
2008 return results:
69,456,897 President Obama
59,934,814 John McCain
How about all those babies teenagers in Mississippi are having? Oh, and with the GOP looking out for our morals and working to close down the last abortion clinic, they can have even more!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47003837/
Look at that! Red States leading the pack! Hope all those teenage mothers don't end up in that 'safety net' or anything.
I am a liberal democrat and I don't have a dime in this world I did not earn for my family.
When reading conservative poster comments from Albany Joe to JS1, this quote comes to mind: "An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out." Rene Descartes.
____________________________________________
Jody: That "light" you see is America's inevitable future being played out before your eyes in Old Europe. Their socialist defict spending and ever-increasing debt loads are causing these countries to collapse under its weight. Sounds like you are optomistic about America running up annual deficits of a trillion-plus dollars as far as the eye can see, and somehow not suffering the same fate as these countries.
It's not pessimism that causes me to look at Old Europe failing and extrapolating that the same thing will happen in America for the same reasons, it's realism. You might want to give it a try sometime.
Ron Paul has the votes of young Americans. They don't like the Presidents message anymore.
You mean there are people that haven't realized how dangerous that man is yet?
Absolutely, The same crowd that bought into Obamas BS.
"Ron Paul: Providing 18th Century solutions to 21st Century problems."
Fitting campaign slogan, no?
President Obama will receive the votes of the young people again. They see he is the only person offering anything except taking our country backward - as Romney will do. They want none of his "pandering" and changing his opinion from one campaign stop to the next. They're smart and actually care about the country and the citizens that make this country up. They are not about to vote for a party that has women in it's crosshairs.
Obama/Biden 2012
"Ron Paul: Providing 18th Century solutions to 21st Century problems."
Fitting campaign slogan, no?
I actually loled right in my office. I hope no one was passing by because they might think I'm nuts!
Obamas slogan, break the country so we end up in a 21st century revolution. Brilliant.
Cali Tom - "DRIFT" by Rachel Maddow. It's a must read for any intelligent, politically aware person. One of the major debates is over the use of "Presidential Powers". There uses and abuses. President Obama will use these powers to get things "done" in a do nothing Congress who's goal is only to do "nothing" for our Country and it's people.
Maddow's book seems interesting, I only hope that she writes on a level playing field - judging equally. This unitary executive psuedo/criminal philosophy while used more by the GOP is harmful is used by any President. I don't agree with Obama's tactic to use more presidential powers. Not only are those actions limited by the constitution (first and foremost) but it could backfire. For the pure blood partisans out there don't you think if a GOP POTUS like Romney wins he will use these extra constitutional powers to do his side stepping of POTUS granted powers? An example was Obama's placement of appointees while Congress was not in session. By the way Pro forma session rules need to change, that body needs to eliminate all these little tactics and procedural games and do their jobs. Vote up or down on bills or appointees, stop all the ridiculous holds on legislation. Most importantly outlaw the false fillibuster if you plan to filibuster step up to the plate and read the bill in its entirety, discuss its bad points and point out your suggestions.
In listening to Maddow, I noticed her apparent greivance with the sidestepping of the War powers act by both R and D president's. Will she include the Libya incursion? May be a good book if it is balanced.
As an '08 Obama voter and a life-long Democrat, I hope that someone asks Obama at one of the universities that he is planning to visit why he has sold out American college students, the American workforce, and LEGAL immigrants in his wrong-headed push to grant rewards to immigration lawbreakers. Both parties are selling out American citizens and LEGAL immigrants. Romney, at least so far, has pledged to enforce our laws (the most generous immigration laws in the world). We must not permit rewards for immigration lawbreaking, as doing so imposes catastrophic damages upon American citizens, LEGAL immigrants, and American taxpayer resources (which are damaged by lower wages, and thus, lower tax revenues from taxpayers, higher costs for services for ILLEGALS who obtain social welfare benefits and free healthcare all funded by the American taxpayers rather than their lawbreaking employers). This should be patently unacceptable to all of us. We must vote for those who pledge protection of American citizens and LEGAL immigrants and not rewards and the further incentivization of immigration lawbreaking!
I am sure Mr Obama will be telling all the college students that the bad Republicans will be increasing the cost of their student loans and that only he can keep their college costs affordable.
Of course he won't tell them that the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which set current interest rates on student loans was bipartisan legislation signed into law by Former President Bush in 2007 and that as a Senator he DID NOT VOTE for the bill.
Everyone,
Never mind Angelica. She doesn't know how to turn off bold and she gets paid by CIS. This is the first time she's posted on anything not directly related to immigration, however, you'll notice that's all she talked about. Also, if you go to her page and read her stuff, you'll see it's the same thing, over and over.
Sarah--- You're the consummate liar (purposefully in bold). You have no grounds to say that I am affiliated with CIS, and, in fact, I am NOT. That's a complete lie! You just cannot handle it that Democrats want for our immigration laws to be enforced as well. Another of your lies is that I do not comment on other issues--- this is completely false as well--- but you have no moral barriers to the continuation of your false and inane posts. Your own posts evidence your pathology and propensity for making up lies when you oppose the content of the message. Most of us can see right through your lies and deceit-- as it's memorialized in all of your posts!
Further, you'll note that i did not say anything whatsoever about "immigration" as you falsely allege. My comments were limited to ILLEGAL immigration and Obama's amnesty agenda. It's further amusing that you have nothing of substance to say yourself--- as you are preoccupied and obsessed with my posts --- every time!
Job1
69,456,897 people are getting free government handouts!
Just ask any conservative. They think everyone voting Obama are on welfare. I see it on every article here.
No, that was the last president, the revolution brought us President Obama silly.
Yellowdog-Mark D
Good points. I especially want to see the filibuster change. The republicans have a record on them, more than all other filibusters combined. 51% is a majority, not 60. And, 30 days is enough to hold an appointment back to evaluate, not 3+ years.
We also need to set term limits in Congress. It should be treated like jury duty. Pull a well informed citizen out for 4 years, run them for a 2nd term if they want, then send him back to the job he came from. If four years on two terms is good enough for the president, it should be good enough for Congress members.
Angelica,
It always amazes me that it takes you at least two paragraphs to tell someone to go fu** themselves. Do you just enjoy the act of typing, or are you trying to impress us with your flowery rhetoric?
Anyhoo, I'm sorry, it's not CIS, it's FAIR. Or if you aren't a troll, why don't you tell us your thoughts on something OTHER then immigration?
In the meantime, why does this seem familiar...
Now excuse me, I have some "consumate" lying to go do. At least this time you didn't call me "tacky". So I have a few velvet Elvis paintings hanging up, I wouldn't consider that "tacky".
I don't know whether you're tacky, as I don't have enough information to make that allegation, so I won't make a false and unfounded allegation against you (a/k/a I have ethics). However, you just continue to prove my point that whenever you disagree, you resort to BLATANT LIES AND SUBTERFUGE. It's really a very unattractive quality and negates any valid point that you may have as well. I have no doubt you will continue with your false statements, accusations, obsessiveness, and insults rather than corresponding with facts to actual content.
Further, it appears that you have practiced and perfected Karl Rove's strategies, as he constanly resorts to LIES and SUBTERFUGE, as you do. You must have studied his offensive methologies for a long time, as you have adopted them to perfection!
Angelica,
AGAIN, all these fancy words and paragraphs for such a simple statement at it's core. Why waste the time, when you can say it in two words... "Fu** off". See, done.
And, what's really funny is that you HAVE called me tacky before...
That was from January of 2012. The article was entitled, "Obama Draws Sharp Contrast with the GOP on Immigration".
And you didn't answer...
Or if you aren't a troll, why don't you tell us your thoughts on something OTHER then immigration?
Most people of moderate intelligence are familiar with the words that I use, and don't find them "fancy", as you do. What would you like to know my opinion about, as I've certainly given it about other matters-- the environment, and more recently, an adopted Chinese girl without any hands who received an award for penmanship, etc.? Why aren't you as obsessed with those posts? It appears that you're the troll-- as you only appear to follow me and are obsessed with my posts regarding ILLEGAL immigration rather than making any valid post of your own original thought. Further, as I said, and as you constantly misstate, I didn't say anything about "immigration", but rather only about ILLEGAL immigration. It is truly scary that you saved one of my posts from 4 months ago! Wow! Gross! Point proven!
Angelica,
Glad to see you figured out how to turn off bold.
AGAIN, an entire paragraph for the same point. And I didn't save it, I clicked on your page and searched for it. It was right around the time they suspended you for being so, we'll call it "angry".
So, what are your thoughts on some other matters??? My posts are already up there, and are, you know, pertaining to the article.
P.S. If you're going to vote up your own post, you might want to wait until it's been up long enough for people to have actually read it. Otherwise, it just looks like, you're voting up your own post.
Sarah--- If you've taken the time to review my "page" (and you ADMIT YOU DID) then you've surely seen that my most recent posts before today have concerned: (1) the adopted girl from China with no hands who won a penmanship award (extraordinary), (2) Spanish King's brutal killing of elephants (act of savagery), (3) George Zimmerman (murderous thug who failed to follow the 911 operator's instructions not to follow the African American teenager holding Skittles and tea, thus resulting in murder of Trayvon Martin), (4) best supermarket --- Whole Foods (for sure).
However, given that you now admit that you went onto my page and could see that these were my most recent posts prior to today, your statement that I "don't comment about anything but immigration" is PATENTLY AND ADMITTEDLY FALSE! Now, your deliberate lies are fully exposed and memorialized through your own posts and admissions. Disgusting!
Angelica,
Oh man, you turned the bold back on. Just when we thought you were doing better.

Phew, good thing it's a slow day at work, anyway, that's just through this passed December. I couldn't find one NOT about immigration until January of 2012. Not to mention, you say the same things everytime, and they're all really vitriolic and wordy.
I suggest Zanax, but that's up to you.
SO...relatively speaking, YOU DON"T COMMENT ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN IMMIGRATION.
Now, what are your thoughts on somethings pertaining to THIS article (OTHER THEN IMMIGRATION).
Sarah--- Please don't interpret my refusal to further respond to your FALSE and INANE posts as anything other than a wholesale rejection of your misrepresentations and intellectually-dishonest, inane banter.
Angelica,
So you aren't going to answer me about what your thoughts are pertaining to THIS article, OTHER then immigration????
Okie dokie. Hey, at least you were able to insult me in less then five sentences that time, right??? You're improving, but what did I tell you about waiting to vote up your own stuff?
Sarah - Great job but what do you bet it was all lost on her?
Hilarious!! You two could honestly do a comedy act! Really great stuff here! Angelica, Sarah's right about the Xanex although you may want to look into some wellbutrin because you seem... how should I put it... disturbed.
Sarah, I think I love you... Keep up the good fight...
You guys have already been told the Truth, but you dismiss it.

Ron Paul 2012
Fred,
How much is the government providing and to how many?
You'd think anyone with a little common sense would realize that Ron Paul isn't going to be the Republican nominee, and theoretical match ups are meaningless outside the imaginary world in which Libertarianism actually works.
.
An open letter to Senator Chuck Grassley;
Mr. Grassley, I'd refer to you as "my" Senator, but lately you've made it obvious that is no longer the case. The most recent example of that was only yesterday. It bothers you that attention is being turned to the shadowy, quasi-legal lobbying group ALEC. That doesn't surprise me because there's a lot to be concerned about from your point of view, what with sunlight being the best disinfectant. http://www.alecexposed.com/wiki/ALEC_Exposed
Nonetheless, we still live in a world where businesses are not obligated to pay tolls to the Conservative Movement. As such Coca-Cola has reevaluated their participation in the American Legislative Exchange Conference and has decided not to give further corporate money to that arm of the Kochtopus. Bully for them, as there are plenty of LEGITIMATE lobbyists who can help make their point in state legislatures and Congress. http://www.examiner.com/article/coca-cola-ends-ties-to-conservative-law-writers?CID=obinsite
I guess that isn't good enough for you, Chuck. In your thinking companies are OBLIGATED to pay financial tribute to the GOPTP. You're urging constituents to boycott the brand just because your buddies in the Conservative Movement will no longer get their tribute payment from the corporate profits of Coke. Never mind that Coca-Cola has privately-owned bottling plants in Iowa. Never mind that they're a solid, long-standing corporate citizen here and a significant employer. Never mind that the local owner of Coke bottling has deep roots in YOUR home. http://www.examiner.com/article/grassley-suggests-coca-cola-boycott
I have a different idea, Chuck...how about if your constituents consider your history of favoring Conservative lobbying groups over the interests of your constituents the next time you're up for election?
John B: This prime space is just for you. Great Letter! Looking at Grassley's comments, I'm thinking Grassley is the stupid one.
Ron Indiana
John B: This prime space is just for you. Great Letter! Looking at Grassley's comments, I'm thinking Grassley is the stupid one.
Ron & John B what else could he be? He is in essence cutting off funding for the right wing's graviy train. He should know that's a No, No.
Thanks for saving a spot under the shade tree Ron, I figured you would be OK coming back later to find me here. As you know ALEC has been a pet issue of mine for a while now...mostly because they aren't ONE issue, instead touching on every aspect of our lives as Americans. It looks as though a lot of others are starting to pick up on that as well;
http://www.democracynow.org/2012/4/18/alec_drops_push_for_voter_id
John B, terrific letter to old Chuck. Good old Grassley who put the individual mandate in health care and then criticized it as unconstitutional--what a stand up guy he is NOT.
I'd like to wish Sen. Grassley good luck with that Coca-Cola boycott---he'll need it. My guess is that companies signed on to ALEC because they thought it would push issues like tariffs, corporate tax rates, labor laws, etc. That would be bad enough but a common business goal. They probably were surprised to find out they were funding stand your ground and transvaginal probe laws as well.
Meet the Media Companies Lobbying Against Transparency
by Justin Elliott, ProPublica
News organizations cultivate a reputation for demanding transparency, whether by suing for access to government documents, dispatching camera crews to the doorsteps of recalcitrant politicians, or editorializing in favor of open government.
Dozens of televisions display a political advertisement with the image of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Companies that own the biggest journalistic outlets in the country are fighting a measure to post political ad data online. (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images) But now many of the country's biggest media companies — which own dozens of newspapers and TV news operations — are flexing their muscle in Washington in a fight against a government initiative to increase transparency of political spending.
The corporate owners or sister companies of some of the biggest names in journalism — NBC News, ABC News, Fox News, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Politico, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and dozens of local TV news outlets — are lobbying against a Federal Communications Commission measure to require broadcasters to post political ad data on the Internet.
As we have recently detailed, political ad data is public by law but is not widely accessible because it is currently kept only in paper files at individual stations. The FCC has proposed fixing that by requiring broadcasters to post on the Internet details of political ad purchases including the identity of the buyer and the price.
(ProPublica has been inviting readers and other journalists to send in the files to be posted as part of our Free the Files project.)
Over the past few months, several major media companies have dispatched top executives or outside lobbyists to the FCC to oppose the proposed rule or to push a watered down version, disclosure filings show. (The FCC is voting on the issue April 27.)
Among them are:
In a speech this week at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski excoriated the broadcasters as working "against transparency and against journalism."
The industry's opposition to the transparency proposal has sometimes been heated. In filings submitted to the FCC in January and March,Allbritton Senior Vice President Jerald Fritz raised the specter of "'Soviet-style' standardization" of ad sales if political ad files are required to be put online in a single format.
In a February meeting with the FCC, Walt Disney executives complained about the "logistics and burden" of putting the political ad information online.
That same month, executives from Disney along with NBC and News Corp argued in a meeting with FCC officials that posting the political ad file would allow "competitors in the market and commercial advertisers [to] anonymously glean highly sensitive pricing data."
Television stations must by law must offer political candidates the lowest rates on ads. Broadcasters have argued that by making this information available online and not just at stations, it would hurt their ability to negotiate with other advertisers.
Advocates for the online disclosure rule have countered that the political ad information is already public by law and the measure would simply make the existing disclosure rules relevant for the Internet age. They have also pointed out that keeping paper files in electronic form should actually be more efficient for stations.
Albritton, NBC, and Walt Disney did not respond to requests for comment on the FCC chairman's charge that they have positioned themselves "against transparency and against journalism." News Corp. declined to comment.
Some media companies have also pushed a watered down proposal to post only some of the public political ad data, and to put it up on individual station websites instead of on a central FCC website.
Washington lawyers representing the other companies fighting the rule — Barrington Broadcasting, Belo, Cox, Dispatch, E.W. Scripps, Gannett, Hearst, Meredith Broadcasting, Post-Newsweek Stations, Raycom Media, and Schurz Communications — lobbied FCC officials in February, March, and again this week.
The group suggested that instead of putting the full, itemized political ad data online, stations would post aggregate data once a week.
"What we were saying is, if you want the public to be informed about what's being bought at what price, maybe there's a simpler way to do it,"Mary Jo Manning, an attorney representing the group, told ProPublica. "Transparency is giving people information that is useful."
But when the FCC pressed the group for details on its plan, the stations said they opposed posting even the aggregate data in a single format prescribed by the FCC. They also opposed posting the data on a central FCC website, saying they wanted to post the limited data only on the stations' own websites. If enacted, both of those stances would make it more difficult to get and analyze the data.
Since there is a one-week sunshine period ahead of FCC votes, today is the last day that interested parties will be able to lobby the commission before its public meeting April 27.

We constantly hear the whiners on the right complain how the media is too liberal and favor those on the left. Yet here we have a list of the most prominent and powerful companies who are fighting to keep their secrets of how they 'help' political candidates with their messages. This is another example of how corporate America helps undermine the political process through money.
JohnB....great letter. When I saw that piece over the weekend, I thought of you and Jody, and am glad to see you respond. Both of you deserve to have a better Senator than what you have in Grassley.
The good news is, we have a better Senator than Chuck Grassley...his name is Tom Harkin.
The bad news is, they can be relied on to vote opposite each other on most issues.
Romney really doesn't know whether He's lying or not when He speaks. He (as best He can) just reads from the same old republican script, and gives not a whit of a damn if it's contradictory, or tried and true assbackwardsness. Romney simply thinks He is entitled to be the US President, question or purpose be damned. He is in truth, quite a funny fool. His view of Himself is reinforced by the fact that some .92 of every dollar contributed by the wealthy in this country is going to both his candidacy, and those republican House and Senate members up for reelection. Republicans present a large, and very legible "bullseye" this cycle for us democrats. Hell, even Huntsman is ashamed of 'em. We must do our "due diligence" as voters, and put these purveyors of ignorance, self indulgence, and ruinous political whimsey, back into those asylums from which so many were carelessly paroled.
AngelicaS - did you write that from the GOP talking points, because none of it is true. And, there is no way you're a Democrat or you'd know the lies you are posting.
Not at all SeekingSanity--- I am a registered Democrat (although I likely will not be voting for the Democrats for the first time ever in 2012). What exactly are you referring to when you state "none of it is true". What did I say that you don't believe is true???
As eloquently stated by Vernon M. Briggs Jr., Cornell University Emeritus Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations:
@AngelicaS #2.10: This President has deported more illegal's than all his predecessors combined. While I have mixed feelings about that, especially since I know the "Hispanic" people to be some of the hardest working, and best behaved people living in this country, I cannot allow you to so capriciously blame the President, and those immigrants, for claims you cite. If you really are a lifelong democrat (which I do not believe) and feel this way, I suggest you consider some emotional counseling.
Mac-- -I don't really care what you beileve--- you can believe your own lies if you elect to do so. Many Democrats are turned off. Further, while, I undertand that Obama has deported many ILLEGAL immigrants in his first few years, within the last year, if you've watched the news, he also instructed ICE Chairman Morton not to deport ILLEGALS who have been identified and are in custody unless they commit additional criminal activity. Further, you'll know that the deportation numbers dropped in the last quarter of 2011 as a result of Obama's unilateral amnesty agenda (which is contrary to Congressional enactment a/k/a the LAW).
Although I am a Democrat, I am not a Democratic robot like you. I speak and have an allegiance to the TRUTH above party afffiliation (you should try it sometime).
Further, I am not sure why you focus on "Hispanics". I didn't mention Hispanics--- you did. And, I certainly don't equate being Hispanic with being ILLEGAL, as you wrongly have. There are millions of Hispanic Americans who also want for our immigration laws to be enforced. Further, LEGAL immigrants want our immigration laws enforced, as they waited the wait, paid a high price, went through a background check, waited their turn, to get here. ILLEGAL immigration is DEVASTATING to working class Americans--- particularly minorities and LEGAL immigrants! Shame on you!
It's obviously an important enough issue to Angelica for her to engage in comment spamming...
@AngelicaS#2.15: I focused on Hispanics since they are the largest immigration population, and probably specifically whom you were referencing, especially since you brought up "social welfare, and free healthcare benefits" which are basic "tea party" talking points. Suffice it to say Angelica, I believe both your "Professor Emeritus Briggs", and yourself to be either conjecturing, or, more probably, out and out lying.
Mac-- I am focused on ILLEGAL immigrants (irrespective of nationality, ethnicity, religion, etc)--- not immigrants and not Hispanics--- RATHER---- ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. You should really be able to substantiate your own offensive attacks before making false statements and conclusions about someone else!
1. As reported by the Miami Herald Editorial Board reported on February 14, 2010, and I quote:
(This means that virtually the ENTIRETY of the additional tax paid by South Floridians goes to pay for the healthcare of those who aren't even supposed to be in in the United States. Meanwhile Jackson is on the verge of collapse. This means that American citizens and LEGAL immgrants are in jeopardy of losing
their fail-safe healthare safety-net!!)
2. Also, as posted on the LA County Mayor's website:
3. On April 3, 2011, the Seattle Times reported as follows:
4. On September 2, 2011, the Washington Post reported as follows:
PULL YOUR BRAIN OUT OF YOUR TUSH!
John B, MAC, GBM -- Great posts.
Angela - You've posted the same thing over and over on this site. Why? Don't you think we notice?
And, you shouldn't be calling people names since you seem lock-step with the GOP - who certainly have no history of telling the truth. Still not believing you're a Democrat or an Independent. If you were anything but a Republican you'd remember that President Obama has been far more severe to illegals than Bush ever was. In fact, Bush/McCain proposed an amnesty forward program to help illegals become legal.
Illegal immigrants are not even remotely devasting to working Americans as they do the jobs American would not do - like working in the fields to pick produce.
Except maybe some of those ~7 million non-agricultural jobs held by illegal aliens.
Thanks Obama!!! This is change you can really believe in!
Don't worry kids, president Obama is going to leave you a world with endless possibilities:
The possibility for a nuclear war launched by North Korea!
The ever growing possibility of economic collapse due to the highest national debt the U.S. has ever known!
The possibility that you will pay 10-20 dollars a gallon at the pump!
The possibility that drug lords from Mexico armed with thousands of U.S. government provided guns will invade your town!
The possibility that you will not be able to get a decent job no matter how hard you study!
The possibility for a nuclear armed Iran which deploys American drones!
The possibility that America will fall out of the space race for decades to come!
And just for the heck of it, the possibility that you will see with your own eyes an American president bowing to a Saudi King, again!
So thank Obama kids!
Seeking Sanity (It is evident that you aren't seeking sanity). You are extremely simple-minded. I don't believe that I EVER said that I agreed with anything Bush did--- to the contrary. Whenever I post something (irrespective of whether it's been posted previously), at least it's the TRUTH. So, I really don't care if you notice or not.
Further, we can all see that you support a blackmarket laborforce by which the American taxpayers are being forced to subsidize the lawbreaking business profiteers by granting them corporate welfare in the form of healthcare and other benefits for the ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS. When businesses partake in the BLACKMARKET LABORFORCE only the lawbreakers profit--- they are being subsidized by American taxpayers and the true costs of their goods are shifted onto the backs of the American taxpayers. Further, the lawbreakers are able to out-compete the lawabiding businesses. Although you approve of this ILLEGAL LABOR SCHEME--- most Democrats and Republicans are against it, I assure you! And, further, it's only in your mind that the hundreds of billions of dollars being diverted from the U.S. and State treasuries to finance the BLACKMARKET LABOR FORCE that you champion and pay social welfare benefits to them isn't harmful--- only in your mind!
Mac - don't confuse Angelica with facts - she just hates those. She just appears to spout the same lies over and over again - knowing full well there is no truth to them. Sad but not unexpected. The truth really hurts the GOP.
Let's get the young people registered to vote during the May Day festivities -- well except in Florida where's it's illegal to register voters...
Yep, those who voted for you are having second thoughts also.
But yet, "SeekingSanity" #2.24--- You fail to identity ANYTHING whatsoever that I've said that is false. As you can see above, I provided you with excerpts from reputable news sources (like the Washington Post, The Miami Herald, LA County public information, the Seattle Tims. These aren't "my" facts. They were ascertained by Journalists! You're the LIAR!
AWESOME POSTS YOU GUYS!!!
Naw, just kidding. You circle jerker FAKE liberals disgust me.
Seriously, how come Obama hasn't brought The Troops Home yet?
Oh yeah, the republican war hawks.... lols....
Angelica, don't bother. These are the "Soldiers in The Mist".... they can't remember yesterday. If you prove something to them today, with supporting links, tomorrow in another thread they will be demanding proof again.
They refuse to be honest with themselves or anybody else.
Sad, really.
Remember "End The Wars"???
Remember "Question Authority"
Remember "Bring The Troops Home"?
I liked those Liberals. The ones here? (mostly) They're a bunch of FAKES.
End The Wars, Bring our Troops Home.

Focus, People!
By CHARLES M. BLOW
The general election is off to an inauspicious start.
We are already lost in the weeds of the inconsequential.
Like kittens chasing a spot of light on the floor, the public and the press are jumping about with excitement and outrage over ancillary issues. Even there we are doing so by creating false equivalencies.
For instance, an Obama supporter, Hilary Rosen, made an unfortunate remark about Ann Romney’s being a stay-at-home mom, and the president quickly distanced himself even though Rosen apologized.
On the other hand, one of Mitt Romney’s supporters, the inflammatory Ted Nugent, made despicable and threatening comments about the president’s re-election, and Romney only soft-pedaled away from him, even though Nugent never apologized.
This is what we’re discussing — a manufactured mommy war and a rhetorical warmonger.
This all makes me want to grab every American by the shoulder and say, “Focus, people!”
This will be a long election fought with hundreds of millions of dollars over relatively few voters in the middle. There is unlikely to be a knockout punch or a trump-card issue. There will be many ups and downs, faux pas and faux issues. But we shouldn’t lose sight of what really matters — what this and every presidential election is really about.
It is about the size and function of government in our lives — whether we value social safety nets or social Darwinism.
It is about how the government collects and spends money and whether those activities are ruled by a spirit of fairness or disproportionately favor the most well off.
It is about whether rhetoric criticizing the size and influence of government ends where individuals’ bodies begin. Whether you believe, as I do, that all liberty begins with personal liberty. That none of us has the right to impose our beliefs and values on others. That each of our bodies is sovereign, to be governed as we so choose, without the interference of government, so long as our individual choices don’t impede or encumber the liberty of others.
This is about each of us being able to love, and marry, whomever we chose.
This is about women having unfettered and unfiltered access to a full range of reproductive options, which is most fundamentally about the physical and economic well-being of both them and their families.
This is about how we prioritize and provide direction and incentives for our educational system so that we produce citizens who are well equipped to compete in a tightening global job market.
This is about the judges the winner of the election would nominate, particularly to the Supreme Court, and how those nominations might balance or further skew the justice system.
This is about war philosophies: how easily a president is willing to commit troops to war, how he might execute a war once it commences and how willing he is to end it.
It is also about whether we will deal humanely with people who are in this country illegally, many of whom have been here for decades, many of whom work and are otherwise law abiding, many of whom have been raised and educated here.
When you consider the gravity of the real issues, the minor ones drift away like the seeds of a dandelion.
Neither candidate is perfect on every point, but they are not equal. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, the Democrats and Republicans, have radically divergent views about the direction of the country. One is progressive; the other is regressive.
Romney and the Republicans are running a campaign of opposition and retrenchment. They want to repeal, restrict, restructure, reclaim and restore. They want to take the country back to a reality that exists only in their imaginations — and to a world that will never exist again — and freeze us there.
But that’s utterly unrealistic. There are no cryogenic chambers for countries. The world is dynamic, and as a country we must be dynamic in it. There is no going backward to get ahead. This is not a board game.
Social mores are changing. The global economy is changing. World security is changing. We need a president who understands and appreciates those changes and can articulate a core conviction about how to guide us forward through them.
That man simply isn’t Mitt Romney.
I have no personal gripe with Romney. I don’t believe him to be an evil man. Quite the opposite: he appears to be a loving husband and father. Besides, evil requires conviction, which Romney lacks. But he is a dangerous man. Unprincipled ambition always is. Infinite malleability is its own vice because it’s infinitely corruptible by others of ignoble intentions.
Not only has he at some point in his political life been on both sides of more issues than I have energy to list here, he has made clear during the primaries that he is willing to shift to the far right on far too many issues to be the right president for modern America.
He has signaled that war with Iran would be on the table. He has said that he would seek to take financing away from Planned Parenthood. He embraced the Paul Ryan budget. He has called Arizona’s draconian immigration law a “model” for the country. He has said that he would “propose and promote” a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
He said this week that he might eliminate the Department of Housing and Urban Development and trim down the Department of Education.
He has said that he “favored justices like Roberts and Alito, Scalia and Thomas” for the Supreme Court and found the nomination of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic on the court, “troubling.” He has said that he would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned.
Romney’s willingness to shift so far right would set us too far back.
We need a president who understands the winds of change, not one who simply twists in them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like most prospects Mr. Romney started out in Single A ball.
What Mr. Romney forgets is that Baseball has the different levels of baseball to test Character just as much as Ability.
Most Ballplayers at any level in Baseball have the Ability to play at the Major League Level. The Physical tools so to speak.
The question becomes do they have the Character to play in the Majors. To stand up to the everyday grind without making so many unforced errors that they embarrass themselves and the Management that gave them a place to play and a bunch of money to do it. Become one of the Faces of the Franchise so to speak.
What Mr. Romney is failing to see is that you cannot Buy the Character to play in the Bigs. You can’t get there by pandering to the Managers and Coaches. When push comes to shove you either develop the Character to go with your ability or you don’t.
I have a sneaking hunch old Romney is going to just slowly fade away into those annals of history never knowing why he couldn’t ever get out of Single A ball.
Great analogy Independent. If politics were baseball, Romney wouldn't be a player, he'd be sitting in the owners box, suggesting to him he cut the benefits of the snack bar personal and direct the "savings" to install cushier seating in the VIP box.
Great post IR. Mittens has clearly demonstrated that what he's gained in personal fortune he lacks in personal character.
Very nice!
Good analogy, IR, especially since Romney was born on third base but goes around telling everyone he hit a triple to get there. He likes to consider himself a self-made man. Well, I have news for him---anyone whose father was head of a major auto company, governor of a state, Cabinet official and candidate for President didn't start from nothing. A person who attended an exclusive prep school and obtained TWO degrees from Harvard isn't a rags-to-riches story.
And so, another week begins- one that will be even worse for Obama than last week.
Last week, you might recall, was dominated by the GSA scandal, the Secret Service Scandal, the "unexpected" spike in initial claims for unemployment,(you know it's bad when the media explains that the numbers declined by 2000 only because the prior week was adjusted up by 8000.  They usually like to ignore such pesky details), and Jim Treacher discovering, after all this time, that Obama, as a young, upper middle class kid in Indonesia, a Muslim country, (where dog is illegal except for one or two tiny islands far from where the Soeteros  lived), had eaten dog- then bragged about it as an adult-in his  book, which he wrote and narrated.  (I wonder if this is proof that Obama understands the lives and values of "average Americans"?  Hands up- how many of you average Americans have not only eaten a dog- but bragged about it? )  It, therefore, came as no surprise whatsoever when Michael Vick endorsed Obama this weekend. Â
Is it any wonder that Obama was loudly booed when he appeared on the Jumbotron at Fenway? Â Imagine- Obama booed at Fenway. Â It's almost as if a republican had won Kennedy's Senate seat! Â Oh. Â Wait.
Well, anyway, this week is about to get off with a bang. Â First, Joe Manchin, democratic Senator from West Virginia, stats that he has no idea for whom he will vote. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, is it?
Then, THE topic of discussion yesterday was the revelation that Jon Corzine has himself a really nifty get out of jail free card- he bundled over half a million bucks for Obama! Â Think ol'Jonny is worried about being indicted? Â Think Bernie Madoff is sitting in his cell, kicking himself because HE never thought to do that? Â Heck, if Bernie had bundled a couple hundred grand for Obama, he'd have his new Ponzi up and running right now, rather than running from some burly guy who wants to rearrange his teeth.
Corzine, of course, knows full well that, as long as he keeps coughing up the cash, there's no bus waiting for him. Â He's safe from prosecution for as long as Obama is president. Â Then, there's always a presidential pardon, right? Â Poor Bernie- too busy trying to keep the wheels from coming off to realize that all it takes is a dollar and a dream- well, couple hundred thousand dollars in Obama's campaign coffers. Â Then, you can commit highway robbery and walk away Scott free. Â Just ask Corzine.
Of course, Obama will handle it in his usual, deft manner.  Perhaps he will send forth a lobbyist- like Hilary Rosen- to mock Ann Romney.  Maybe he'll handle it himself- make some remark that gets turned around on him, then claim he was not referring to anyone in particular.  (I have to admit, even I was surprised at Obama's behavior after  making his whining remark about silver spoons. Romney pointed out that, first, he was proud of his father and all he'd accomplished; and, second, what the heck was upwith the President of the United States ripping people who worked hard and succeeded?  Particularly a president who is responsible for making it almost impossible for people to succeed.  Obama's response?  That he was not referring to Romney, I have to wonder- does he think ANYBODY believes that?  I mean, even the cultists who slaver before him know better.)
Of course, Obama did go around telling college kids that if republicans didn't cooperate, the interest on their Stafford loans would double. Â What he did not tell them is that it's his party's fault that little bomb is ticking away. Â Too bad we don't have something like an independent media to inform people when they are being manipulated like that. Â He also told people he wanted an economy that was "fair". Â As in, it's not fair that some people make lots of money, and others don't. Â Cause, you know, the folks who make millions aren't doing anything like starting companies like Apple in their garages, and growing them exponentially, or anything. Â It's just not fair.
"Trust me" hit the discard pile before it even got out the door- because it was greeted with howls of laughter even by the lapdog press. Â It joins WTF, I Need More Time To Finish The Job, and a few others I cannot even remember, as "the little campaign phrase that couldn't". Â So, he's stuck with "fair".
I guess it beats trying to run on his record.

I guess nobody has told you about that filibuster thing and how the Republicans used it at a rate several times higher than at any time in the past, and how Senate Repub leader Mitch McConnell crowed about denying Obama legitimacy by making Republicans vote as a block against all Obama initiatives regardless of their merit.
The graph in this article shows how Republican filibuster abuse spiked after the Democrats took control of the Senate in 2006. It only got worse after Obama took office.
http://motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2011/11/chart-day-republicans-and-filibuster
Terrific post, IR.
Reminds me of Mitt at NASCAR telling everyone he has friends who are own NASCAR teams; then criticizing the fans' rain coats.
Oops, there goes a foul ball commonly named No Joe.
Really? More cut 'n pastes from emails, NoJo? You're just too blind, bitter, and ignorant to dream up this crap all by yourself.
Or is it you just have a penchant for black presidents...I mean, Obama DOES seem to reside very deep in your mind, as you devote all your energy to him...It's almost as if you have a crush of sorts...and obsession if you will. But hey, it's cool...
Uh, Houston? Got the name of the immigration bill, the day it was brought up for a cloture vote-
Anything?
Cause, I'm pretty sure Obama was too busy with other nonsense to bother. . .
Great post IR and a perfect analogy. I just finished watching the President speak at the Holocaust Museum and continue to be struck by his sincerity and empathy to those who have lost everything including their lives and how we must always teach our children about these horrific happenings in our world so we never forget. How we must teach our children not to hate and to stand up when we are faced with evil. I couldn't help but think Mitt Romney could not give a speech like that, mainly because he does not have it within him to be sincere and compassionate, he could use the words, but that's all it would be....empty words.
Think he'll give a speech about why Jon Corzine, having embezzled over a billion and a half dollars from farmers and other clients, won't be prosecuted because he bundled over half a million for Obama's campaign?
That's a speech I'd pay money to hear.
clearly no joe does heavy drugs each weekend to come out with her ridiculous posts on Mondays. How sad she's going to be in November. But, she will have yet another four years to spew her hatred of all things Obama. Oh well.
Loved Huntsman's blasting of the GOP. He was the best they had to offer but clearly not radical enough. You also could not push him around which of course the powers that be hated. Too bad - he's actually a good man and a decent politician.
Obama/Biden 2012
It's fun watching the Libs with their little blurb like this at the end of their posts. It's almost like they've just gotten done saying a little prayer, and then they say "Amen".
I thought they could not get anymore sycophantic, JS1-until I saw them defending him eating dogs- and bragging about it.
That's when's truly realized that they had zero ability to think for themselves.
Given that level of rationalization, it's no wonder they have nothing to say about Corzine buying his way out of an indictment.
There are still professionals who offer help in deprogramming those who escape from cults. You wonder if they are standing by for after the election.
Whats even more fun, is watching conservatives try to out conservative the other.
By the way no jo: Mittens spent time in France trying to convert a Catholic country. Horsemeat is considered a delicacy in France.
Do you think that Mittens ate poor ol Nellie?
And if so, how safe are the Warmbloods when they cannot win ribbons any more to bolster Mittens and Annie's conceit?
no joe - your stupidity is only overshadowed by your eagerness to show it. President Obama ate dog - as a child under his parents supervision - while living in a country that accepted that practice. Why don't we discuss the things you did as a child - oh wait - the list of stupidity would be WAY too long. The fact that you have to hang onto this item shows how little you have to complain about and what a totally idiotic person you are. The things other countries do that we do not is a long list. As we all know, the President did not do this in the US after he was older. So, how long do you intend to show how incredibly moronic YOU are? Because your constant posting of the dog item says so much more about you than it does our very good President.
As Senator Byrd said on the Senate Floor....
"God created the Dog"
I wonder what he would have said at the prospect of Obama munching on a pooch??
It's B-A-R-B-A-R-I-C!!!!!!!!

no joe, no bo, nj
Uh, nojonobo, ever hear about the DREAM act, backed by both parties until Obama was for it, then they were against it? No, it wasn't comprehensive reform but it was a pretty decent humane piece of legislation backed by Republicans back before they lost their collective minds.
Yeah, too busy with nonsense like saving the auto industry and preventing the Bush Recession from turning into the Bush Depression.
On the subject of what Obama's parents fed him when he was a LITTLE kid: A lot of little kids eat bugs, too. nojonob probably still does.
Are the moonbats still claiming that ObamaCare is going to save us money????
Obama has set up an 8 BILLION dollar slush fund so voting seniors won't have their Medicare Avantage Plans cut just weeks before the election as scheduled in the overhaul. Was that 8 Billion included in his estimates? I'm guessing not.
8 BILLION DOLLARS of tax payer money in a bait and switch to get reelected. What a disgrace!
These arguements about Romney and Obama are a bunch of crap. These two candidates are going to give America the same result no matter who gets in. Obama can't ruin on his record and Romney has to lie, lie, lie to win peoples support. The joke is that people are voting for these puppetheads, when they know that they are just propped up.
Smiffy:
[It's fun watching the Libs with their little blurb like this at the end of their posts. It's almost like they've just gotten done saying a little prayer, and then they say "Amen".]
Kinda like NoJo with "Obama shelved in 2012", right?
Uh oh...dissension in the ranks, or just two asshats contradicting each other...
Sad to think we have post after post attacking Obama for all of his failures. Everyone should give credit where credit is due, Obama does talk a great game. So what do you think Obama will start promising all of the young voters to get them to turn out for him? Free college, free credit card forgiveness, a free home, a free car, or maybe a guaranteed job. Obama has no shame, and even less ability to deliver on ALL of his promises. Nope, this country will be belly up long before Obama has to deliver to anyone other then his cronies. But you can take to the bank, Obama will find someone else to blame.
No Jo - I have to agree with the others, your post focuses on trivial issues and or topics where you incorrectly try to place blame on Obama.
With the exception of the continued cozying up to MF Global, the other things are not worthy to report, these issues were discussed in length last week.
Dog tales, silver spoons, alledged Ann work gate - Trivial. The SS agent scandal and the GSA spending spree can be attributed to no one other than the guilty parties themselves.
The funny thing about the DREAM act is that it was included in the lame-duck session of 2010 (I guess it wasn't important enough to schedule before then and Hispanics should already have been satisfied with Sotomayor ).
Well, the funny thing is when you check the roll-call for the cloture vote you find that it was defeated 55-41. Now you would normally think that it would be all Democrats on one side and all Republicans on the other. However, it turns out that 3 Republicans voted for it but 5 Democrats voted against it. So, if the Democrats had actually stuck together cloture would have been invoked. So I'll repeat the question, what exactly has the Administration done for the Hispanic People?
Alan...
What "has the Administration done for the Hispanic people ?"
Easy !!! For the past three years Mr. Obama has at times spoken to largely Hispanic audiences and he repeatedly has told them that he wants "comprehensive immigration reform" to a warm round of applause. Of course, he hasn't actually done anything to get this wish for "reform" rolling...but he does roll out the same speech, reads the same lines, and gets the same round of applause for having done so.
No wonder they call it the "Dream" act !
Uh, SS? Indonesia is a MUSLIM country. Dog meat is considered unclean- and is, and was, illegal there- with the exception of some tiny islands peopled by non-Muslims hundreds of miles from where Obama lived with his mother and stepfather.
Nice try.
If you want sanity, you need to seek out a professional who will help you break the shackles of the cult, and allow you to do some thinking for yourself.
And, no, you don't- or you would not be parroting the tripe that dog meat is an accepted food source in Indonesia.
One wonders what Muslim voters make of that trope. I'm betting it's pretty insulting.
Never mind. Keep saying it.
ted -- President Obama cannot run on his record so he will continue to lie, lie, lie as he has done nationally since proclaiming in 2004 that he would absolutely serve a full 6-year term as a Senator from the great State of Illinois. The man cannot be trusted.
in my opinion all politicians lie.
no joe - I keep seeking sanity in the GOP but you, JAS, and others on this site show me over and over again it's just not there.
President Obama ate dog as a child but your stupidity continues as an adult. How sad for your parents that they raised such a moron. And, Mitt, his actions again were as an adult - but we expect no better from him. He has proved it is a fitting candidate for buffoons like you. Not everyone in Indonesia is muslim - keep parroting that idiotcy and you make yourself look just like you are - a moron.
james - keep telling yourself that. You're going to be so sad in November!
Obama/Biden 2012
seeking -- I don't have to tell myself that President Obama lies. All one has to do is accept the reality that he does and that he very regularly does so. Once you can accept that he is not perfect and that he in fact lies like all politicians your seeking sanity may become possible.
Good Luck.
The hateful right will regret not giving Huntsman the time of day. I fully believe the GOP might have won this election had they given him a chance. Hell....I wouldn't have puked or felt bad if he had won. I don't believe in anything this new breed of hate mongers/Thurston Howell III and Lovey...are throwing at this once noble country.
Be ever vigilant my progressive/libs. The Gnop will try to steal this election too. Sad that they don't have a Bin Laden to sway the ignorants to their side. Aren't you cons. just a little tired of this trumped up "fear and smear" tactic? Gads...what's the terror alert level at today???? Should I be terrified?? Oooooooops...I forgot..wrong POTUS. The current POTUS took down Bin Laden...and many, many terrorists to boot. Brought about the end of the Iraq war and is winding down the Afghan war.
Joannasmith: Yes it is similar to the GOP/cons. chant and mantra..."drill baby drill". Got a problem with that??? And as I recall....the simpleton Rethugs even had a "flip flop" chortle about John Kerry in 2004. Mind if the Dems/progressive borrow it this election season???? (giggles) Excuse me while I dig out my flip flop earrings and hang my pair of actual flip flop shoes around my neck. Next..I'll don on a hat with tea bags stapled to it. There...now I feel just like you guys!!! lolol
When it comes to illegal aliens, including those that are Hispanic he has done a lot!
He has reduced illegal alien deportations (DHS removals and returns) to a 30 year low, and by issuing an executive order granting the DHS "prosecutorial discretion" in illegal alien deportation cases he granted some 300,000 illegal aliens "backdoor amnesty" and eligibility to apply for work permits.
Alan - Have read your comments on overall immigration reform previously agree with some and have some of my own.
Increase number of visas to eliminate amount of undocumented immigrants.
Crack down hard on employeers who game the systems taxation by hiring immigrants.
Continue border security and border patrol but concentrate on violent or immigrants who commit crimes after entry.
Pass the dream act to address those children brought here as youngsters. Provide a temp. guest worker program for some and a pathway for
Regarding dream act votes...
Murkaski R from Alaska and Lugar R from Indiana voted for it. Think one of the R's from Utah did as well, mabye why Hatch is having a hard time in the primary. D- Joe Maunchin missed the vote went on a trip instead. The Democrats weak kneed blue dog coalition like Ben Nelson Neb, Max Bauchas, Jon Tester Mont., Mark Pryor Ark, Corbin ND. didn't have the stones to vote for it.
Fearing election they voted against it. Funny even those that were retiring anyway still voted against it. Believe me if the Democrats all stood united and needed those two or three votes Republican votes they would have vanished.
Just like Reid was too scared to bring it up before the 2010 election those Republicans would have been too scared to vote for it. All of these votes are calculated beforehand, everyone knows what will and won't pass gamesmanship pure and simple.
In the meantime, because the legislative bodies can't do their job nothing gets done to attempt to resolve or address this issue.
james - as I've said so often, I'm seeking sanity in the GOP but you, no joe, JAS and others continue to show me it is hopeless - there is no sanity in the GOP. Anyone who is leaning toward Republican should never say the word "lie" considering it is all the GOP does - day after day. And Romney, he can't even stick to one lie - he changes his as often as he changes his socks!
Obama/Biden 2012
SeekingSanity: The proverbial golden egg the republicans have historically always crowed about is really a turd from a jaundiced chicken of questionable orgin.
@Dog
Scary to think I agreed with Sessions that the educational criteria was too broad. It has to be a at least a four accredited college, possibly with a specified GPA.
The military I think is fine. Anybody who is willing to serve at the moment, unlike some native-born citizens who took college money and then complained when the @!$%# hit the fan, should be granted citizenship after two years of service. There should be no need for any other criteria. If the military does not weed out criminals or other undesirables then their vetting should be looked at.
The condition I think should be imposed, and is the hardest from a family point of view, is that DREAM citizens should not be able to sponsor any other family members. I only say this because I want to remove all incentives for coming here illegally in the first place.
Rick #'s -- What the President is doing is fighting to keep interest rates low on student loans. LOANS are not free handouts. Republicans are busy trying to fight for higher interest rates on those loans. WTF is wrong with them? Since you are obviously a republican maybe you can explain to me why saddling these kids with compounding interest that will run in the thousands of dollars over the course of the loan is a good thing. Let's hear it, Rick.
seeking -- your gross generalizations aside.
would you agree that President Obama is a liar?
remember his 500+ campaign promises? after more than 3 years in office these promises are rated at 34% kept. Let me help, that means about 2 of every 3 promises he made to voters he has failed to keep. Was he lying when he made these many promises? Was he to naive and inexperienced to know better (after all Mr. Biden did ask if we wanted a president that would need OJT).
I think it is fair to say that President Obama is a superb politician with an extremely loyal following in certain segments of the population and at the same time is extremely adept at lying to our face when it is to his political advantage.
so do republican politicians lie -- absolutely.
do democrat politicians lie -- absolutely.
it is not one-sided as so many of your like-minded posters on this site seem to think that it is.
whether you gain sanity is up to you but you should at least acknowledge the reality
james - President Obama was obstructed by the GOP at every turn when he tried to accomplish his goals. I will admit all politicians say things they sometimes can't get accomplished but as for lies go - the GOP has a corner on that market - especially Romney. He can't even remember what lie he's supposed to be pushing from one stop to another.
Again, I keep seeking sanity in the GOP but there is absolutely none to be found.
Obama/Biden 2012
Oh, I dunno james...that's nearly double the 18% "promises kept" return on 2010 Republican votes...and Republicans only made 57 promises. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/gop-pledge-o-meter/
Seeeking sanity.....
Sorry, laughing, had to catch my breath...
Dude!!!!!! (Or Maybe Dudette, who can tell)
Anyways.... Why is it you always disagree with people by calling them names? (ignorant, stupid, etc.)
Why do you never try to debate people HONESTLY, or INTELLECTUALLY.
Why is it that you never have anything OF SUBSTANCE to say?
I suggest you take a good hard look at yourself and the ideas that you believe in. If you are solid in your beliefs, then please use the knowledge of your beliefs that you hold, and make your argument FOR the thing you believe in. Use facts and reason.
Otherwise, you're just a Troll.
Seriously dude.
Huntsman is too moderate for the Republican party. Romney is whatever he needs to be to win without regard to the lies spewing from his mouth. President Obama will energize the youth vote again when he scares the crap out of them buy letting them know school grants and birth control will go away under Romney.
I'm not sure what "I'm not voting for Romney, I'm voting against Obama" means. What rational person thinks that way? Irrational Republicans hoping the South rises again against the North and slavery is returned to America think that way.
Boots on the ground will win this election. Boots on the ground will get voters out. Doesn't matter what Rove tries to smear with. I'm sure the weekend before the election they will pull an affair out of their a@# because that is who Rove is. But I doubt it will work. Americans have wised up on misinformation by Rove and company.
Ooops! Sorry spelling police. "buy" should be "by". Me Bad! Please forgive!
What does it say about the Republican Party when Orrin Hatch is now starting to be considered "Not Conservative Enough"?
Ooh! Ooh! Can I answer?
The Republican Party has given themselves over so thoroughly to the radical, Conservative fringe that they resemble the Party of Lincoln in name only.
The same thing is happening to Lugar in Indiana. He has a
TeaToy party asshat, Mourdock, running against him. Indiana has an open Republican primary,so, I'll be voting for Lugar(R) and Gingrich in the primary May 8th and then a straight Democratic ballot in November. ;-)Obama/Biden 2012
Whats it say for Obama when members of his own party cannot be counted on to endorse him- or even commit to voting for him?
See Senator Manchin over the weekend.
How about a better question- what does it say for Obama when he's booed at Fenway Park?
I'll give you a hint- it ain't good.
What does it say for you, No Joe, that you come to this site every day, dripping sarcasm and derision about President Obama, heap more derision on our hosts here, never have anything positive to say about anyone on the right and don't even start your own threads because no one would pay any attention to them?
It says that not everyone is a mindless obot minion who would defend Obama no matter how bad he is failing!
Steeler, NoJo has an unhealthy obsession over Obama...maybe even a secret crush?
It says that No Joe Schools you Libs here every day so you have to resort to name calling and whining. Led by your "queen' , none of you have the chops to debate No Joe, so you turn into third graders.
Start a thread? Why bother, you and your plebs would just collapse it like you do with most dissenting opinions.
ow, lookey there, Little mickey is talking about "crushes". Kind of like a third grade girl.
Unhealthy, there Mouse? Kind of like vowing to walk over coals for the man?
It'd help if No Joe posted anything remotely debatable.
Youre right, Ruken- there's no debate.
The economy stinks, unemployment is rising again- or, maybe, it will stay staic, and another couple hundred thousand people will hit the lottery-the Iranians are reverse engineering the drone they downed- which they would not return, even after Obama said "pretty please", and they are still building a nuclear bomb. So are the North Koreans- so, that failed, too.
And Obama eats dogs. There no debate about that. He bragged about it in his book- the one he wrote about himself. The one for which he won a Grammy for reading. He ate dog as a child- yes. An upper middle class child in a Muslim country where it was illegal. But, still he was a child when he was, in his words, "introduced" to it.
He was a fully fledged adult when he bragged about it.
Hands up all here who would do that. Ah, the cult members.
Hide your puppies, people. The Obamabots are coming for them. Unlike zombies, they are not chanting "brains"- theirs is "dogs!"
WCA---I can only speak for myself, but I don't vote to collapse people---I think it is better for their words to stand out and let everyone read them and see what they tell us about the character of the person posting and the cause they support.
Why would anyone choose to debate No Joe---her well-earned reputation for dishonesty stays with her.
Mickey----unhealthy obsession is exactly correct. Sad to carry around such hatred.
In Indonesia. I ate rabbit in China, does that mean I'm disallowed to have pet bunnies because I might get hungry?
So what would you like? Us to just bomb the sh*t out of another country or two?
Ah, isn't that cute? WCA rushes to the defense of no jo.
Makes sense; the only thing they offer is a constant and daily DEMAND that this country fail economically. More important to be "right" than loyal to country.
Mickey: I believe the President Obama reminds no jo of the jock in school that never asked her to prom.
There is just too much personal animosity to make it about policy.
Her latest obsession with "puppies" shows what she is. She can't see the difference between a nine year old, in a foreign country, with habits different than ours eating what he is given, as all nine year olds must, and an ADULT using the poor judgment that Mittens did to put a dog on the roof of the car for transport. Nor does it bother her that the only reason Mittens wouldn't do it again, is because it drew too much negative attention. Not that it was morally wrong, putting both the dog and other motorists in danger.
Makes you wonder how they transport the six figure Warmbloods, or what they do with them when they can no longer compete.
Poor WhiteCollarCriminal...I'm surprised you're here. You're usually hiding behind Spanky's skirt on these issues...but don't fret, little troll...your BFF will be along shortly...
Hey, question for you...just how much DID you benefit from Obama bailing out the auto industry? Inquiring monds want to know...
All of this debate over who eats what animal has suddenly given me a hankering for some Kung Pao Chicken.
Steeler. you folks constantly beat this damn drum of Dishonesty, but never have anything to back it up.
I have been told I lie here all the time. Every time someone calls me out I ask them to prove it and they go away. Not one single time has someone backed up their claim.
But since you folks have "Claimed" it enough, people like you make comments that I have a reputation for being dishonest.
Here is a hint for all the Libs. Just because you disagree with someone, it does not mean they are lying.
Whatever, most of you have your heads in the sand anyway. The winds of real change are blowiing now.
Ruken, dear, there's this little piece of technology that Obama was told to use- it would have destroyed the drone.
Obama did not act in time, because, first, he did not believe they actually had it, second, because he believed it would be "antagonistic".
The man's an idiot.
Yea I heard Obama was driving the drone at the time too, because he does everything when it comes to the Armed Forces.
Hes the commander in chief, Ruken. That means he gives the orders.
He never seems to have a problem giving orders to zap people with drones, now, does he? It's caused quite the little bit of disquiet among liberals- that he's summarily executed so many people in foreign lands.
You've heard about that, right? Funny how it never comes up.
"It's caused quite the little bit of disquiet among liberals..."
Source?
Hey, look, it's my girl Mickey.
Again with nothing to add. Such a shame.
But that's Ok, Feisty, or New Day will be along shortly to bail you out.
You gals need to stick together.
And there it is... getting "schooled" from the libs is hard for you, isn't WCA? I realize that it happens every day you show up, and the only thing you have as a comeback is a personal attack. I do enjoy your discomfort.
Now, is this where you disappear off the thread...or will you comeback with another personal attack?
Either which way, you will still look silly.
Nahhh!
Captian Kickass Mickey is doing a mighty fine job all by himself...
Must suck to realize you're NO where near his league... eh... Otis?
PS: You really should wait until your BFF arrives - right now you have no where to run to & no where to hide! lol
PPS: As for debating the nut job from NJ - I don't make it a habit of conversing with door-knobs... ;o)
See Mickey, I told you your girlfriends would be here to cover for you.
I do love how you girls always stick together.
New Day, you ned to point out anywhere that I made a personal attack.
Your girl Mickey, does however, regularly call me a criminal. Some would construe that as a personal attack and I am pretty sure I would not have to look to deep to find some personal attacks by you against me.
Once again you are lying, but I don' expect you like any of the other Libs here to back it up.
Cuz this is usually where you cut and run.
Naaahhhh, she says as she comes running to her rescue!
You just can't make this stuff up.
Isn't that even cuter? Now poor WCA can't even discern what his own posts say and why they are a personal attack! So sad, but funny just the same.
You did exactly what I said you would do, WCA, which must irritate you mightily. Let's see, what's next in your usual arsenal...more personal attacks..."the treehouse gang" (I do know how friendships amongst libs annoy the heck out of you) another claim that you, poor fellow are accused of lying, for no earthly discernible reason?
Or that libs are afraid of you and abandon threads, because gee, you are just so doggoned smart?
Hmm, quite the conundrum...how will you get out of this...?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Or not, you are quite predictable.
noid -- so a sitting US Senator gathers 59% of the vote. A landslide it would seem. The rules laid out by the Utah GOP are pretty stringent. Failing to get 60% is probably not what Hatch wanted but securing 59% would suggest that he is in good shape.
seems as though you and others on the left are grasping for bad news if this is the result of your search.
You think that Obama gives every single order for every single action that each of the Armed Forces take?
The victim card...
WHAAAA!
Must be, Feisty. That's all he has. Well, that and getting "too busy" to respond.
[Steeler. you folks constantly beat this damn drum of Dishonesty, but never have anything to back it up. I have been told I lie here all the time. Every time someone calls me out I ask them to prove it and they go away. Not one single time has someone backed up their claim.]
WhiteCollarCriminal and NoJo,
You both embellish and leave out key relevant parts of your "stories", and you do this knowingly. In Kindergarten we all learned that when you do this intentionally, it is lying. Unless you aren't doing this intentionally, in which case it just makes you ignorant...
...please tell us you're not ignorant...WCA? NoJo?
[But since you folks have "Claimed" it enough, people like you make comments that I have a reputation for being dishonest.]
WCA, your reputation is your own, and you alone are responsible for it. You, NoJo, Smiffy and SPanky have the reputation for being dishonest because you ARE dishonest.
You created your reputation here...now you must deal with the realities of that reputation.
Once again the dork from NJ tries to turn lies to facts. The drone had its communications disabled by jamming conducted by the Iranians, that is how it got off course in he first place. No tell me, prey genius, how were they supposed to initiate the self destruct? When you figure it out, please press your own button so you can save us having to suffer your future hatred and lies. WhiteCollarCriminal, for future reference, what she tried with this, is a LIE. A lie of omission. It was a dishonest attack on Obama by a mind to narrow to know how to conduct a proper attack.
no joe - you truly are pathetic. The dog story was not "bragged" about by Obama. He just told it as part of his childhood. But, of course, you just hang on that don't you? What small, menial people you and JAS are. But, you're good for a laugh. You've been posting this drivel for the past three weeks because it's all you've got. Says a lot about you!
Mitts, however, was an adult when he put his dog on top the car! Totally different story!
Mickey, we expect no better from no joe, JAS or WCA.
Obama/Biden 2012
SS- Obama eats dogs.
Deal with it.
Mitts, however, was an adult when he put his dog on top the car! Totally different story!
You think Seamus would rather be on the roof of Romney's car or the roof of Obama's mouth?
BARBARIC!
Here honey, let me correct that for ya;
President Obama ATE dog as a child...
You deal with it! lol
One more time Mickey and New Day.
You did exactly what I said you would do
You really don't see the irony in that comment do you New day?
Let's see if you ladies can come up with one statement to back up your assertions.
I know you can't, or you would have by now.
That is why you should just go away. You have no credibility here, except amongst your equally misinformed followers.
Keep working the Saul alinsky playbook though.
You wear it well.
Apparently that means "Ruken eats bunnies" because I had one once in China.
By the way we got to pick out which one we wanted to eat beforehand. You get to see your meal alive before you eat it.
An interesting experience, to say the least.
[Again with nothing to add. Such a shame.]
So, WCA... care to answer the question regarding just how you benefitted from Obama bailing out the auto industry? Or will you just continue to show your ignorance and use the stale "Spanky Deflect" of referring to me as a female? In that case, how does it feel to constantly get your ass handed to you by females?
For the record, I call you WhiteCollarCriminal because you took the bailout money, in some form or another, right WCA?
Yeah, you know I'm right...so how about you come clean and explain just how the auto bailout benefitted you personally?
You can't...you won't...(god I love saying that!)
It's simple, I know...you don't have the stones...
Sure WCA: The Saul Alinsky playbook? Really? And of course that would be a term of endearment and not a personal attack right?
I suspect that you don't even know who Alinsky is.
You just aren't getting anywhere, are you WCA? So what's next...references to the"treehouse gang" because you just aren't welcome there, or more personal attacks?
By the way, I'm about to call your buddy no jo out for her post on MN voting...because she is LYING about it.
Well Mickey, I never got a check from the Government so I guess I didn't benefit from the Bailout.
I am however on the hook with the rest of the taxpayers for what looks like a $25 Billion dollar hit from the Governments acquisition of GM stock.
You can't...you won't..
Again with the irony.
Still got nothing , eh New Day?
[That is why you should just go away. You have no credibility here, except amongst your equally mis0informed followers.]
WCA? Unable to answer the question, or just unwilling:
P.S....I'm not going anywhere...it is your credibility that is in question...you, NoJo, Smiffy and Spanky...it is you who are the liars here, not me. If you don't want to be classified as such, then just don't lie about things...you're smarter than that, right WCA?
Please tell us you're smarter than that...
Or are you just one of the "I'm jus doing it to you because you did it to Bush" crowd?
If that's the case, well, then your ignorance is blinding.
No Joe: Your obvious obsession with Obama is unhealthy. I recommend you match his support numbers against Wooden Mitt's and then try to imagine the resounding boos emanating from the crowd at Feway when they flash his photo on the big screen. He doesn't have many friends there, and it is supposed to be "one of his home states".
Alinsky's Rule 12: Destroy the Individual
"still got nothing.." Sorry, WCA,you are the King of that. Did you really consider that to be a response?
Ha!
Of course we know why WCA and no jo like to use Alinsky as a method of attack. Pretty foreign sounding name, right WCA? Which according to no jo rules, makes you a bigot!
That's the thing about dogs, you eat one of them, you're forever a dogeater.
Think Fallon will bring it up? Maybe they'll play "Who let the dogs out!" when Obama wanders on stage.
Fallon can ask Barry if he knows about any good recipes.
Poor JS1, and still no honesty about what Mittens did to that poor dog by putting him on the roof.
By the way, Joanna, you are the world's expert on everything, at least in your own mind.
Do you think that Mittens ate horsemeat in France?
Hmmmmm?
Wow, you ladies are just flailing at the wind today aren't you?
Not a Cogent thought among you.
Alinsky is a foreign "Sounding" name?
Really? Doesn't sound much more foreign than Obama or Romney to me.
See NDD, it's not the name, it's his principles that you and the President believe in that are the problem.
[Well Mickey, I never got a check from the Government so I guess I didn't benefit from the Bailout.]
WCA, you are a hypocrite, and that's the reason why you won't answer the question, and continue to dance around it...you should chance your name wo WhiteCOllarTwinkletoes.
Let me answer for you, seeing how you don't have the stones...and I'll keep it simple:
The money was used to prop up the department you work in, as well as prop up your retirement (if you're not already retired), right WCA?
Yeah, you didn't benefit, did you...
You might want to get your thank you letter to the White House before November...you wouldn't want to look like a bigger hypocrite by sending it after Obama is reelected.
JoAnnaSmith - you ARE related to no joe, right? Clearly you both share the same 1/2 brain.
Think PETA will protest Obama? Maybe they'll just be po-ed that their liberal icon's talking point blew up in his face.
Fallon should play "How much is that doggy in the window?" and flash to one of NY's finest meat markets display window. What a riot that would be, Barry would even have to giggle at that one.
Has Moochelle come out with the nutritional value for dog yet? It is her job to make sure we're all eating right.
JoAnnaSmith - and I'm sure you had a problem with Laura Bush promoting literacy since it is so against your background. But, we all just look at you and laugh. You're predictable and pathetic!
Obama buying lunch for his staff:

Romney a foreign sounding name? No, sorry. Pretty WASPISH.
You are right about Obama, VERY foreign sounding.....and again, based on the standards that no jo set here, is bigotry why you won't vote for him, and is that why you use Alinsky as a pejorative?
Seems like it to me.
White collar.....did you or did you not benefit from the auto bail out? Don't give me the lame "well I didn't get a check" bull@!$%#!! Do you also think that you are ENTITLED?????
Let me see if I can lower myself to your level and say "MITT ABUSES DOGS"!! Wonder how many equines Ann rode to death and then had put down because they were used up? Or did she have her domestic staff butcher them and serve them up to their elitist Football owners and their NASCAR buddies? Shall France (in the remote and unthinkable event that Etch a Sketch wins the WH)...expect to be served horse meat???? I just realllllly want to know........LOL
Well Mickey, old gal, since you know very little about the auto Industry, I can tell you that the bailout helped me just about as much as it helped you and the rest of your Auto Industry illiterate friends here at First Read.
Didn't help my retirement out at all. Still many, many years away from that particular milestone.
Sadly, it's people like you that think you know everything that continue to bring this country down.
But do keep posting. You make me laugh on a daily basis.
Sure New Day, Obama does sound foreign. Kind of Irish if you ask me.
What does WASPISH mean?
Here is how many dogs are transported in America. It's just ignorant Libs that think this is somehow wrong. Poor liberals, they don't even know anything about their own culture.
http://www.google.com/search?q=hunters+dogs+pickups&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=JZiVT5GCNvSK6QH2sbilBA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CEUQ_AUoAQ&biw=922&bih=715&sei=LJiVT9bqHfK36QGz8pCrBA
Retired? HAHAHAHAHA!
WCA is sitting in his cozy cubicle next to the mens room, ripping off company time...
Lookie there, someone named eggberta has joined you ladies in today's incoherent rant.
Nice to see you attract such "High" Thinkers.
My goodness, WCA: you simply can't help yourself, can you? Another personal attack. Do you NEVER get tired of it?
Ah, JS1- poor things are twisted on KNOTS over this.
By the way- Obama never said he no longer eats dogs. Claims he was introduced to it in Indonesia-a Muslim country where it was, and is, illegal.
Odd, no?
Poor Bo.
Oh the mental midgets of the GOP have so little to hang their hats on - a dog story that is decades old. But, that's all the GOP offers - nothing more. However, as we can all see - it is all JAS and no joe need. Their little minds are totally content to take this issue and run with it. But, Mitts offers nothing else. How sad to know that is the best your party has!
Obama/Biden 2012
You mean like this dog story that happened decades ago?
Obama: "I cannot believe Romney strapped his dog to the roof of his car. That ruins the flavor!"
WhiteCollarTwinkletoes,
Your answer proves that you are the hypocritical coward you so aspire to be...
Hold your torch high!
Yes, JS1, it is outrageous that Mittens would do that to a dog, isn't it? I'm glad to know that you agree with us that the real story is Mitten's lack of judgment, that might actually translate to an equal lack of judgment should anyone be foolish enough to vote for him for President.
Why, you wouldn't based on that story, with your well known love of dogs!
By the way, my dogs travel frequently, often to schooling activities, and they get there in harnesses, one that attaches to a car seat made for a toy dog, and one made to measure for the collie that snaps into the seat belt.
But, then...I am responsible. Mittens...not so much.
Obama 2012: “Hasn’t eaten a dog in awhile.”
Better have a parachute on when you take that leap of faith.
JoAnnaSmith - Romney was an adult at the time and should have clearly known better - as all intelligent adults do. But, I am not surprised your childish mind finds the Obama story entertaining. You have the intelligence of a 7 year old (sorry to all the 7 year olds out there) and it shows every time you post your nonsense. And, for those who say it is normal practice to carry your dog with the cage strapped to the top of the car - not for intelligent, normal people it isn't. My brother hunts and when he heard all the "but hunters do it" stories he was belligerent. His comment "no legitimate hunter would EVER do that with their dog." But, of course, he's intelligent - that explains why you find that acceptable and normal people wouldn't.
Wait, JS1, you mean I was giving you credit for good judgment that you wish to clarify is undeserved?
So in your mind, Romney's abuse of that dog is justified, not a measure of his lack of judgment, and you would still consider voting for the man?
By the way, what exactly is the difference between eating dog and eating meat from a calf that has been held in a pen? Slaughter is slaughter is it not?
Me, I hold a finer standard, I don't eat much meat. I would rather victimize veggies.
JoAnna - Did someone tell you that you were funny at some time in your life? JoAnna, No Jo, White Collar sure are trotting out ancient history on Obama today. Has anyone mentioned the Black Panthers yet? All 3 of them. My best friend's daughter just got back from Peru where they eat guinea pigs - Good God - hide your pet guinea pigs.
OBAMA 2012!!! Amen
So NoJo, have you stopped beating your husband?
Your brother, like you, is an idiot. Your soft SS, you don't know what you're talking about, and stupid to a fault. You have no clue about hunting, hunters, or hunting dogs. Yet you still think you're some kind of expert because you talked to your retarded brother. The images shown in 5.56 are real. That is how hunters transport dogs, and the dogs love it. You think dogs are something you put in your purse. These are tough dogs SS, they are working dogs, something you'd know nothing about living in your basement apartment.
Barack Obama/Micheal Vick 2012
John B - pretty sure men stay away from no joe. Find her a little frantic and scary!
That's your premise, not mine.
You tell us. Make your argument for it. Use your dogs as examples. Explain to all of us how slaughtering them is justifiable.
[You mean like this dog story that happened decades ago?]
Poor Snuffy Smiff:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark
Poor JoAnna: I do realize I made that post far too complex for you to understand.
How do I make it simple for you?
Hmmmm, If you are outraged at the slaughter of an animal for food, you must be honest and be outraged about all animal slaughter.
Which is why I hold the standard that I do. Victimize veggies not animals.
Would I vote based on that? Nope, too many animal eating humans in this world, I would have none to vote for.
Does animal maltreatment become a reason to vote against someone? Of course, what Mittens did to that dog was maltreatment. No two ways about it. And poor JoAnna: I live in the middle of hunt country. The dogs we train and compete with ARE hunting dogs, very expensive and very well trained. I go to their field eventing when I am invited so I can watch.
Not one of those dogs is transported on the roof of the car, or in the back of a pickup. Not one
Looks like NJNB and JAS! crawled out of the sewers to once again to spew gutter trash around.
Perfect examples for your party.
Not going to answer the slaughter question are you? Not surprising. Easier to run away then to answer the question when you're cornered. Coward. I'll let you talk with SS who, like you, knows nothing about hunting, hunters, and hunting dogs, who like you knows nothing about working dogs, who like you knows nothing about training these dogs. You like SS have not one clue. Do you know how they train these dogs NDD? Do you know the techniques they use? Some are quite brutal. You don't know that though because you don't know how they are trained.
And field trials? Really? Field trials are shows, they are not hunting.
And you really need to temper your anger for Romney over this one. That story is dead seeing Obama views dogs as a delicacy.
And when we look at our boots, you're all over them.
Ah poor JoAnna, still struggling aren't you?
Field events are hunting events. They are to show what the dogs do when they are in the field. All the dogs hunt. This is hunting country, I do not pretend to knowledge I don't have.
As to if I know how the dogs are trained, I know how my club members train. We are in class with them. They like to watch my Papillon take her hurdle after their large dogs do, and retrieve, jump back over the hurdle and drop it at my feet.(Yes, they have to lower the standard for her, she is only 10 inches at the shoulder.) Brutalized dogs don't work. Dogs that are trained with positive methods, clicker or reinforcement do.
As to your slaughter question? I realize you think it is brilliant, but it simply isn't. There is a taboo against eating dog in this country. Now, answer my question: why are you so concerned with dog slaughter for food, but you simply don't care about how calves are treated before they are slaughtered, or cows, or chickens. Animals are animals after all. Which is why I don't like meat.
Or is it just a convenient meme for the bigots who are culturally clueless?
You wouldn't fall into that camp would you?
You never did answer my question: do you think Mittens ate horse in France?
newdayDAWNING - JoAnna's posts are no surprise. She and no joe go dumpster diving for their talking points every day. It's all they have. After all, they follow the GOP - no surprise there!
JoAnna - For the love of God. That was when he was 10-years old and visiting relatives in a very poor country. Do you still poop and pee in your pants? Please don't say no because I know you did at one time in your life. Up-date your complaint against Obama or go away.
JoAnna - you are a true lowlife beyond words. I'll refer to you as moronic or buffoon but I know better than to use the r word as most civilized people do - oh that's right - that would leave you out. You know nothing about hunters as is shown by your continued moronic posts. You are a scum dweller and frankly dumpster diving would be a step up for someone of your low class. Your continued putting down of the President for something that he ate as a child while your revered stupid Romney abused his dog as an adult just shows how totally out-of-touch with reality you are. I'm guessing it is embarrassing just to be you. Your filth and ignorance is beyond comparison. You prove with every post you make that there is absolutely no sanity in the GOP. You truly are gutter trash at best!
Actually I find the whole thing pretty hilarious. She hasn't beaten a drum this incessantly since the trip to India that supposedly cost $200B/day.
Why do I have "the Merry Go Round Broke Down" stuck in my head?
It is pretty funny, John B. As if they are truly outraged.
Seeking Sanity: Neither one of them really care about this. JoAnna knows nothing about dogs as she proved in her posts. I have been training dogs for some 30 years, dogs that compete, the most recent, my collie that got his Canine Good Citizen on first try, which is hard to do. He is headed for therapy dog training.
I will make sure to let my friends at the training school know about JoAnna's post. They will alternate between pure outrage and down right hysteria that she is so ignorant of methods of training.
Brutalizing dogs indeed.
newday- Oh! How great for you! What kind of dogs? My sister used to foster rescue labs and one was trained as a search and rescue dog. Was at ground zero after 9/11. Dogs are the best for people. They are so intuitive and sensitive. Good for you that you train them.
One More Primary Eve for the GOP. Will it end Newt Gingrich telling everyone he is the only one who can debate President Obama or will he win Delaware? Will Rick Santorum win some states despite Romney's purported inevitability because conservatives will protest Mitt? Will Mitt Romney snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by stepping in another pile of mis-speak of his own making? Will Ron Paul finally win one? Does anyone care at this point?
The enthusiasm for Romney lacks, well, enthusiasm unless you are big business and really rich. It is a sad state of affairs when the only thing motivating repubicans is anyone but President Obama. Republicans do not even know what a Romney is beyond his claim that he is "severely conservative". That says a great deal about today's ultra-conservative republican party--they'll buy anyone with an "R" by the name and cheer.
Watching the "talked about" VP candidates trotted out for interviews this weekend proves even they appear uninspired to jump on the Mitt ticket. Their words about Romney making a good president are soft-ball tosses. Lots of humming, hawing and some perspiration on their brows while they did their best to answer without answering. Truth is most of the big boys whose names are tossed about would just as soon sit out this one.
Yummy, yummy! Get yer left wing attack talking points, here at First Read ..fresh from David Axelrod's bakery, cooked overnight and covered with that sugary coat of sweet lies...
This morning's special....Feisty's plate of fried baloney...heavy on the "Willard" sauce..
Worried about your waistline? Not a problem...Guaranteed 99% fact free....
Speaking for the biggest liar who has ever run for President, which is Willard 'Flip' Romney. Willard who will do and say anything to get elected, and the FACTS prove it so. For it in the morning, against it at night
PS Ann, you have to earn your turn, and you have failed to do so.
For those not fluent in Bob-ese, allow me to translate...
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!"
If you don't like it Bob, there's the door. Plenty of other sites you can visit instead.
BobinVirginia-no McDonnell for VP (Vaginal Probe) this morning? He just can't compete with the really crazy Republican governors like the failed Scott walker in Wisconsin and the loony Jan brewer in Arizona.
McDonnell needs a sex reassignment surgery, just so he can get a mandated vaginal ultrasound.
What a WEAK response! But Oh So Typical!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Weak? How so?
People whine about this site being slanted to the left, but obviously it must not bother them that much as they keep coming back to it.
Now if by 'weak' you meant 'without substance', I'd think your reply fits the bill more closely.
Nope VirginiaBob. But I would worry about vaginal abuse if I lived in your state and shall I say your state of mime??? virgina/vagina....hahahaha
Okay, tomorrow is finally primary day in Pennsylvania - the first test of our new Voter ID law - and I think I'm ready. Let's see:
Photo driver's license (Newly renewed just last month, so hair color even matches) - Check.
Proof of insurance - Check.
Birth certificate - Check.
Family tree going back to circa 1785 on Dad's side - Check. (Note to self - cross fingers they don't ask about Mom's side, where we only go back two generations. Hopefully Norwegian and Danish anchor babies not considered threat to national security or our treasured way of life)
Organ donor card - Check.
College transcript - Check. (though hope they don't look too close at that "A" I supposedly got in Soccer and Stunt Tumbling, which I never took. Dang those pesky computer glitches!)
Social Security card - Check.
Library card - Check.
Note from my doctor and pre-authorization from my health insurance carrier - Check.
Dental Records - Check.
42 years worth of tax returns - Check. ( Seriously, Mitt - it was a piece of cake!)
Fourth grade report card and class picture - Check.
Name sewn in underwear by 80-year-old mother - Check.
Rabies certificates for both cats - Check.
Unlimited supply of Obama Kool-Aid - Check.
Yep, I think that'll do it. Fired up and ready to vote!
I'm sorry, you don't seem to have the picture of you in your kindergarten Halloween costume ready. No voting for you!
You are lucky. Obama sends in Holder's Gestapo (formerly called the Dept. of Justice) to steal everyone else's rights away. Guess he doesn't fer there are a lot of Hispanics in PA or else he would block Voter I.D. there too.
Great preparation for following the orders from Chicago Democrat headquarters.
Congrats JoAnne, you have compiled enough phony IDs to vote 10 times. Good job.
You did forget to visit the Democratic group most effected by the evil ID requirement; you need to go to the cemetary and get the list of dead voters whose rights to vote are under attack
Is that why in TX the Republicans are trying to make student IDs invalid forms for voting? Guess which party college kids vote for?
If it quacks, it isn't a dog. This is a blatant attempt to trim the other party's voting demographic from the pool. Nothing more.
Great list JoAnne....too funny!
...All this non-troversy over ID is way out of line....2000 and 2004, ID no problem. Then comes 2008-OMG, gotta do something about all the fraud.
Amazing, TeaPeople scream about their 'rights' being taken away or jeapordized....exercising their rights to do whatever but the rights of everyone else are taken away!
JoAnne---you forgot to get out your helmet and shin guards to run the gauntlet of Republican candidates who stand outside the polling place asking you to vote for them but unable to articulate why you should do so.
I'm looking forward to casting my vote tomorrow---a right that brave men & women have died for. I'm especially interested in the race for Attorney General and planning to cast my vote for Patrick Murphy.
It is because of the community organizers like Acorn, and what a bunch of liars they are. Nothing but money sniffers, looking for the next bank account.
You do know that ACORN was disbanded several years ago, right? Never mind, a good Conservative lie never expires.
Who is the "Democrat Party", anyway? Are they a third party pretending to be the Democratic Party?
JoAnne, that was so so funny! Especially the hair color matching. LoL.
The actual voter fraud that is taking place is within the GOP. The Republican leadership told their base that ACORN committed fraud and of course the low information GOP base takes the bait as they always do.
The GOP leadership loves having the the low information voter base who believe anything they tell them.
Good one, JoAnne! Too bad there's some truth in it.
Hey stupid! Citizenship isn't required to gain a student ID! But that's exactly what you all want isn't it? Non-citizens voting... I mean lets face it... that's a huge part of your voter-base!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Yea, so let's just disqualify them all. Brilliant plan.
Show me one case of voter fraud. Don't worry, I'll wait.
Ruken
A college ID does not guarantee that the holder is a citizen of the State. Ever hear of OUT OF STATE STUDENTS??
Yea, so absentee voting never worked before voter Id laws. Geez I wonder how I voted in 2008.
The Detroit registrar of voters stated in Jan that Detroit has 17,000 more democratic voters than people old enough to vote. And that she can do nothing about this until AFTER the Nov. Election. This I believe is a combination of Detroit citizens dying or moving out to the Suburbs, a mere (10 to 20 miles away). Knowing this area, the local Republican party has begun to recruit people to shadow the union vans (UAW/SEIU/IBEW) on Election day. They have been known to pick up people who need rides and conveniently stop in anyone of the Fast food rest. on the way to the polls. Free food anyone! They also anticipate people voting in their new districts and then getting the free food run into Down town for the second round. Since I work across the street from the Ford local here in Livonia it should be fun to watch the activity! When the Unions were sending people to Wisconsin last year the buses and box lunch people filled the parking lot. As bus after bus left for a few paid union days off to protest in another state.
Ruken,
Your response is so typical and irrelevant! WHY do you libbies jump to such insane conclusions when you can't rebut an opposing viewpoint?
No one said anything about disqualifying them ALL! You are a lunatic! But why is it asking too much for them to prove citizenship when they want to cast a vote?
Remember the new immigration laws that Obama want to put in place would allow resident non-citizen students (who have illegal alien parents and who may not have even been born in this country) to get assistance going to school... WHOO HOO instant voters for the dems!
Get real. And btw... stop jumping to stupid conclusions and overreacting to every conservative post that makes sense.
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
"They have been known to pick up people who need rides and conveniently stop in anyone of the Fast food rest. on the way to the polls. Free food anyone!"
If it's that well known, I'm sure you can provide us with some documentation, right? Otherwise, people might just consider this another stupid urban legend......
Well, Ruken, here's a story from Virginia
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2012/apr/22/tdmain01-va-investigates-voter-fraud-ar-1859666/
According to Politifact, there have been fifty convictions or plea deals in Texas. There are a couple of people doing time in Florida. . .
A bunch of prosecutions going on in New York, Indiana, and Mississippi.
You need more? Just Google.
I'm a 'libbie' now? I guess perhaps I should take that as a complement.
The only conservative posts that make sense are ones by Alan. I have yet to see any from another.
I'm surprised voting Democrat in Texas isn't in itself a capital offense yet.
Ooo-looks here from Minnesota
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/minnesota-leads-the-nation-in-voter-fraud-convictions-131782928.html
@No joe:
Where are all the voting illegal aliens? After all that's what ID laws are supposed to fix, right?
But oh yea, flashing my driver's license will instantly let people know I'm an ineligible felon, and therefore fix the system.
Sorry to doubt you jos1, but show the proof that there were 17,000 more Democrats registered in Detroit than people of voting age.
Cancel that...I'm not sorry to doubt you. I've learned to do so by watching your work.
Maybe theoblem is same day registration
3 voting advocates guilty of fraud
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 3:33 PM
By Barbara Carmen
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Three staff members for Vote Today Ohio, an independent get-out-the-vote organization supporting Barack Obama, pleaded guilty in Franklin County this afternoon to voter fraud.
The three came to Ohio from states where Obama was likely to win in an effort to swing Ohio's electoral college vote toward their candidate, Judge Charles A. Schneider said.
Given a year's probation and a $1,000 fine were Daniel Hausman, 32, and Amy Little, 50, both of New York, and Yolanda Hippensteele, 30, of California. They told the court they had good intentions when they registered to vote and cast ballots the same day in early voting at Veterans Memorial.
"I was paying rent and living full-time in Ohio," Hippensteele told the judge, "I didn't attempt to vote in another state. … I think it's all a misunderstanding. I have a profound respect for the voting process."
Assistant Prosecutor Brian Simms said the three later tried to rescind their registration and cancel their votes; two were successful. Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien had warned visiting campaign staff members that they shouldn't vote here if they didn't plan to stay after the election.
Schneider told the three that "rescinding your request is like giving back the money once you've been caught."
Kind of funny that three people who came in from out of state specifically to get people to the polls on elections- to register and vote simultaneously- were totally ignorant of the law, right?
Like most Obamabots- they chant. They don't think.
For that matter we've ALL learned to doubt NoJo. As usual her link doesn't say what she intends it to mean. From the link;
Thanks, NoJo, for proving there's no widespread problem with voting through identity theft or illegal aliens voting. You do great work for us.
Ruken
What nojonobo wants you to not notice is that article she linked to said that the illegal voters could have been caught if proper voter verification procedures had been followed:
This story makes a pretty good case against same-day voter registration, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the Republicans' voter ID laws, which are designed with the sole purpose of prevent Democratic leaning groups from voting at all.
Here is your proof
http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20110822/STAFFBLOG04/110829985/detroit-has-more-registered-voters-than-residents-over-18-census-finds#
Next question?
What a stupid post. The first item in your list will take care of any ID needs. You'll also need your ID when you want to do practically anything.
Yup, their laws are nothing but a ruse. They will do nothing to fix the current system and its fraud (which is minimal). The best part is, seemingly all of the fraud nojoe is posting isn't caused by illegal aliens, which they tout these laws will prevent from voting.
nojonobo
Kind of funny that the Repub Sec. of State in Indiana got convicted of 6 felony counts of voter fraud for giving a false address:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/05/us/indiana-secretary-of-state-convicted-in-voter-fraud-case.html
And I'll bet the guy had a driver license and birth certificate, too, as required by Indiana's voter suppression -- I mean voter ID -- law.
Here is the challenge posed by Ruken
So, I provided multiple cases.
So, you changd the subject.
So, you lose. And Obama still eats dogs- and brags about eating dogs, which is a thing he does.
And is proud of.
John B, Des Moines, IA
John, this is just another figure that's true, but doesn't mean what nojobo and the other con artists want people to think it means. What it actually means is that some people who move out of state, die, aren't purged from the voter roles. Since Detroit is a majority African American city, of course most of those people are Democrats.
no joe, no bo, nj
nojonob
You provided zero cases that provide any rationale for the voter ID law written by ALEC and passed by Republican robots in every state where they've seized power. Everyone knows that the ONLY reason for those laws is to keep people from voting, despite the denials by know-nothings like you.
I live in MN, and we all know who Kiffmeyer is that formed the group MN Majority. She was a Sec of State that got kicked out of the office by voters for her partisan activity in trying to suppress the vote, anyone, that is, who might vote for a Democrat. Kiffmeyer loves her some ALEC laws. No Jo, is as usual, lying about what happened, there is no supportive evidence for the claims of this "teabagger" organization.
The simplest explanation I can find that no jo might be able to read and comprehend is this: MN War on Voting; Ari Berman; the Nation; 3/26/ 2012.
Gladly. How many of them ACTUALLY VOTED.
And for the second time on one subthread NoJo posts a link that doesn't demonstrate her intended point. The point of the article linked is that Michigan has an unwieldy voter registration system which encourages dormant registrations. Maybe Republican Governor Snyder can fix that...if he can find time between throwing duly elective representatives of the people out of office and replacing them with carpet-bagging independent contractors accountable to no one. http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2011/03/gov_snyder_wants_emergency_fin.html
http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20110822/STAFFBLOG04/110829985/detroit-has-more-registered-voters-than-residents-over-18-census-finds#
Damn, you really have an issue with this.
Next time I go to India I'll be sure to let them know how much I love beef.
This should be appropriate to all those "Christian" GOP members out there: if God didn't want us to eat animals, He wouldn't have made them out of meat.
Gotcha covered, Houston. Sometimes I figure it's good to just let liars run on until they've discredited themselves thoroughly.
Don't forget, gun registration cards are deemed to be acceptable forms of ID, just not student IDs. That should clear it up for anybody not sure if this is really about proof of ID in elections. Not to mention, there seemed to be no need for voters to present ID during the republican't primaries.
Do what you like, Ruken. I just would not suggest it as an election strategy.
You guys have a serious problem. You want to present Obama as the guy who connects with the average American.
Well, the average American sees heartwarming stories of boys and their dogs as something other than a boy and Spot-on-a-stick. They may understand it being given to a child- but not that child, full grown, bragging about it in one of the two autobiographies he wrote before age 40.
So, yeah, we're laughing at him- and at you, so desperately trying to explain it away, or quell it by turning it into a "cultural" issue-as if Obama is somehow superior to everyone else because, while we were eating hot dogs, he was eating hot rovers.
Which is making things worse, not better, for him.
But, hey! It beats you have g to defend his record, right?
Have at it.
Im not arguing the point i made with John, he can google as well as I can. Also google Illinois there are a few counties there with more voters than people old enough to vote. The funny thing is that they are mostly highly democratic areas. Oh hell I will give you one.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/21/illinois-counties-have-mo_n_852141.html
Really no jo? And Mittens bragging about putting Seamus on the roof of the car, that's okey dokey, right?
No jo, you are beginning to sound slightly unhinged.
If you want to be taken seriously on this, you should be equally outraged with Mittens. But, you aren't. You simply showing your bigotry (according to the standards YOU set on this blog) about another culture.
So, enough. Time to move on. You may sound as crazy as you like, people see right through it.
John B - no joe just posts lies and stupidity. I don't think she can actually comprehend anything where the words are larger than 4 letters. She is the perfect fit for JAS, etc. They all must be in play group together!
Great catches to all on the BS articles posted by NJBS and SOB. Very hysterical that every link provided on voter fraud has to do with voter registration, and almost none would have been caught by showing ID while casting a ballot. It's a dog-eat-dog world, ain't it NJ/SOB. Time to replace that 'lap dog' with a new sex toy.
Oh poor nojo: Not to worry...maybe you'll get lucky again and the SCOTUS will steal this election for you too!! Lay your pointy lil head to rest for awhile. You may get serious brain damage from over heating/blatant lie telling. What??? Ooooooooooops..too late!!
Good line RedDev. Dog eat dog world! Ha!
How noble of jos1, refusing to debate something that's just been disproven...
JoAnne & Steeler Fan - I hope my home state brings it home for Obama. I was born in Pittsburgh and just hope you guys do us proud this year. I'm now if Florida and God only know what we will do this year. It can be a bit crazy down here.
Sorry, I just can't resist this - Colorado Man - Obviously, sarcasm is lost on you - she was being funny and sarcastic. Geeze.
She was whining about how onerous the law is, which it isn't. Her (attempts at) sarcasm were not lost on me.
KimH -
No problem, Steeler Fan and I have got it covered! My Mom lives in Florida, so I know what you're dealing with down there. And I'm glad somebody else sees the humor in these silly ID laws. The poll workers at my precinct normally have their hands full trying to decide whether to get glazed doughnuts or jelly - I'm looking forward to seeing this whole charade in person tomorrow!
JoAnne - you forgot two things:
- the picture ID from your mother's trans-vaginal probe when you were in uteri.
- your James Bond 'license to kill', or more commonly known now as the 'stand your ground' gun permit.
Without those, your voter ID package is incomplete and you may not be allowed cast your ballot.
JoAnne in Pa, you know when you get there, they're likely to say you're in the wrong precint.
But that was funny. It would be funnier if it wasn't for that hint of truth in it.
Actually Frank, I think I've got even that covered - all I have to do is smile and say "Hey, Pam, how's it going?" to the GOP/TP poll worker at the end of the table who's been my next door neighbor for the last 20 years - it's always been enough before!
By the way, here's the Philadelphia Inquirer editorial board's take on this mess:
Voter-ID drill is bone-headed (April 20, 2012|Inquirer Editorial)
Pennsylvania is giving its new voter-suppression program a test run in Tuesday’s primary. Voters will get a feel for the sort of intimidation the state has in store for them in the fall.
When they show up at the polls Tuesday, voters must produce a photo ID. But for this one Election Day only, if the ID doesn’t pass muster, voters will still be allowed to vote. In November, however, they’re out of luck. That’s when the voter-ID enforcers can use their authoritarian powers to keep non-driving city dwellers, the elderly, young, poor, and anyone else without an acceptable ID from voting.
To make matters worse, the state keeps changing its definition of an acceptable ID. This week, it said expired driver’s licenses are acceptable. That would cover the elderly whose licenses have lapsed. But many non-driving students would still be in trouble. According to a survey by the PennPIRG consumer advocacy group, students at 91 of 110 schools, including La Salle and Drexel Universities, Haverford College, and the Community College of Philadelphia, can’t use their student IDs to vote because they lack expiration dates.
The state acts as if it’s the schools’ fault that their students may not be allowed to vote. Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele suggested that the colleges should “help their students by adding expiration dates to their ID cards.”
Should the students and their parents, already crushed by a mountain of college-loan debt, also pay for their schools to come up with entirely new student identification systems to reduce the impact of this wrongheaded law?
If the colleges do help, they should send their bill to the ill-informed Republican legislature and Gov. Corbett. They created this mess. It is no coincidence that in a presidential election year, Republican-controlled legislatures around the country have passed laws attacking voting rights under the guise of stopping fraud.
Voter impersonation is one of the least common forms of voter fraud. Bill sponsors have been unable to prove it is widespread.
Those least likely to have an acceptable ID also typically vote for Democrats. The American Civil Liberties Union, which plans to sue the state over the voter-ID law, says that while Pennsylvania will issue free ID cards to voters, the required underlying documentation, such as a birth certificate, may be hard to obtain and costs money. That amounts to a poll tax.
There also is no indication that election officials have been adequately trained on the photo-ID law, so it is possible voters could be turned away even though they have appropriate identification.
Pennsylvania has long required first-time voters, and those who move into new voting districts, to show identification. But those voters could use a utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck to prove their identity.
The government’s job is to help people exercise their right to vote. That’s how you create a healthy democracy. Instead, Pennsylvania has chosen to silence voices. The law’s prime sponsors, State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R., Butler) and State Sen. Dominic Pileggi (R., Delaware), shouldn’t be surprised if voters return the favor by choosing a write-in candidate — Jim Crow, perhaps — above them.
(Bolding, as always, is all mine).

JoAnne---how embarrassing that Pennsylvania has joined the voter suppression states.
How hard would it be for a college to have an expiration date on its student IDs? Probably not very hard. Most of them receive state funds, however, and might not be willing to risk that funding by angering the Corbett administration, which has already played politics with funding for higher education.
Requiring a photo ID to vote is suppression? If you drive you need a photo ID, if you buy tobacco or alcohol you need a photo ID. If you make a purchase with a credit or debit card, you need a photo ID. You cash a check, you need a photo ID. You get stopped by law enforcement, you need a photo ID. Yet to provide one to vote is voter suppression? It is reasonable for a voter to prove who they are. Unless their address is a cemetery in Chicago.
It's suppression when you start eliminating entire voting demographics based on the ID they carry (see college students and student Ids).
Hmmm my son is blind, and a student. And he took the bus into Hartford to get his "free" state Id card. The day after he turned 18.
Bruce--you missed the point. A photo ID from a college is no longer sufficient ID---it has to be in a specific format including an expiration date. An expired driver's license for a senior used to be OK; now some states no longer allow them. There can be no purpose other than suppression of the vote for these laws.
Bruce -
Those jokes about cemetery addresses are even older here in Philadelphia than they are in Chicago. Probably well over a hundred years old. So why the sudden rush NOW to demand photo ID? Why can't any of the Republican legislatures rushing these laws through the system provide a single example of people pretending to be someone else?
Here's one theory:
"Prosecutable cases of voter fraud are rare. For example, a 2005 statewide study in Ohio found four instances of ineligible persons voting or attempting to vote in 2002 and 2004, out of 9 million votes
cast. An investigation of fraud allegations in Wisconsin in 2004 led to the prosecution of 0.0007 percent of voters. From 2002 to 2005, the Justice Department found, only five people were convicted for voting multiple times. In that same period, federal prosecutors convicted only 86 people for improper voting.
According to Barnard political scientist Lorraine Minnite, most instances of improper voting involve registration and eligibility, such as voters filling out registration forms incorrectly or a person with felony convictions attempting to register. Neither of those issues would be prevented by a state photo ID requirement. According to George Washington University law professor Spencer Overton, a former member of the Commission on Federal Election Reform, "a photo ID requirement would prevent over 1,000 legitimate votes (perhaps over 10,000 legitimate votes) for every single improper vote prevented."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/five-myths-about-voter-fraud/2011/10/04/gIQAkjoYTL_story.html
Steeler Fan - Speaking of Governor Corbett:
"Gov. Tom Corbett never prosecuted a voter fraud case while he was attorney general. Not a single one. Why? Because there weren't any."
http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/local/the_intelligencer_news/opinion/the-real-fraud-of-voter-id-bills/article_0270f23b-79d7-54f9-bb71-236366550551.html
JoAnne---when Gov. Corbett was AG he was too busy having 16 investigators look into Democrats in the Pa. House and Senate and only 1 investigate claims of sexual abuse by Sandusky. He was darn lucky there wasn't any voter fraud---when would he have had time to investigate it?
Steeler Fan,
Did you know that expired Drivers License and DMV ID cards cannot be used? Once they expire know one will accept them as a form of ID. Stupid, yes but that's how it works.
This is just ancedotal; but, I have heard of snowbirds who vote in New York by absentee ballot and then in Florida by regular ballot. I would like to see people with dual state residency checked in both states to see if they completed ballots in each state. I can see why we would not want to accept expired ID's as ID for voting. Also, in most states if the person is registered already, they can vote by mail (this is available in 35 states). This does not require an ID, if they cannot get to the DMV (tax collectors office) to obtain an ID then how do they get to the poll?
It looks like maybe they are ignored as far as having an ID for the other things they need an ID for; then, when election day comes along, some political activist drives them to the poll lecturing them the whole way there how they should vote Democrat.
Lindsey Graham for VP
HAH!!!
Senator Graham is not liked by the Tea Partiers and he himself believes that he will face a primary challenger in 2014.
he'll have to ask his mother, first. Then John McCain.
holy hell if that guy showed up for an interview looking like that, our HR dept wouldnt even let him see us.
How many tactics is the Obama campaign going to try and use to distract the worshippers form the presidents record? Do they have a list ready week to week, War on Women, Dogs, Student loans, Hate speeches, Racial division, Class warfare, (rich guys calling other rich guys bad), “reign of terror”. But it’s back firing; nothing seems to be gaining any traction. As Chris Mathews said last week, when you can't run on your record it begins to look like you are running from or hiding it. TOO LATE!!
Bruce Strong - oh you really don't pay attention do you? The war on women is a GOP tactic to garner all the old white men vote; racial division and class warfare - the Tea Party - reign of terror - GOP again; hate speeches - that would be the far right. All your examples go right back to the GOP.
Obama/Biden 2012
Did that little blurb you heard from Chris Matthews give you a tingle down your leg? And are you sure it was the POTUS Matthews was referring to Bruce????
Yes we will have hope, he is not the best role model never held a real job, let the country pay for his education or who paid for it. Yes I will take care of you because I care about you. This guy is not in the real world, we need educated people that are willing to work. Not a bunch of people who think they are entitled to something. We have a nation of those that want to work and those that just want to lay around and let the great brown father take care of them!
One more batch of giant lies repeated by the GOParty of Liars.
CrazyHorse - you're talking about Mitt, right?
Hey Crazy? You talking about Thurston Howell III???? Lovey won't like that you know......
If you are a Native American then you have grounds to complain about anything and everything..but if you aren't then stifle!!
He'd better start focusing on something more than gimmicks to get their votes. Student loan changes isn't the big issue. And I suspect the "youth vote" is about to deliver a big message.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47141463/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/
He's just once again using my tax dollars to buy votes. This time the votes will be from the poor students that think all their education opportunities ought to be free.
Go ahead and "suspect" all you want.
Colorado.....your tax dollars???? Get a life. W never,,,never....EVER campaigned while being POTUS did he!!! But that being said...how is he using YOUR tax dollars to buy votes? I suspect that you would rather he feed voters sub sammies like romlie did??
They are my tax dollars because I pay taxes; perhaps you aren't familiar with that concept. He is spending tax dollars to make his campaign visits to these university campuses. Anything else you don't understand?
Happy Monday!
As the Pennsylvania primary approaches, I just want to thank Rick Santorum for getting out of the race when he did, thus saving my already fractured brain from hearing any more of his post primary speeches! :o)
I am also pleased that we can now get on with the business of finding out what in the world Mitt Romney is proposing to actually do as President of the United States. . . since the GOP primary was basically a battle of non-reality based talking points and pre-Civil war platitudes.
I heard Jon Huntsman this morning on Morning Joe-ke repeating that tired old "the President should have embraced Simpson-Bowles" BS.
For the record, there would not even be a Simpson-Bowles report if the President did not create the commission by executive order because the petty partisans of the GOP withdrew their support once the President agreed with the idea.
I find it highly ridiculous when I hear Republicans trotting out this talking point when THEY are the ones who refused to embrace Simpson-Bowles as highlighted by their disastrous stance during the largely procedural debt ceiling debacle earlier this year.
It is Republicans who take their pledges to interest groups more seriously than than pledges to uphold the Constitution.
It is Republicans who initiated the "Bush Tax Cuts" which turned a budget surplus into a budget deficit, and ironically enough, it is Republicans who even now fight to maintain these tax cuts, even though the simple act of letting them expire would raise just as much money as the Simpson-Bowles plan that they are always shrieking about even as they refuse to consider any increases in taxes, which is one of the recommendations of Simpson Bowles.
So in closing, the current Republican Party is all about spin, and not substance, and this Presidential campaign is already illustrating vividly.
Nashville Fan, well said.
Simpson Bowles recommended eliminating the corporate welfare tax subsidies and loopholes; the Grover Norquist pledge would have been violated for any republican lawmaker supporting the idea yet now they latch onto it like flies on honey. If it wasn't so sad and pathetic, it would be funny.
Ya because they are the only one's dumb enough to vote for this idiot!
yup....kiss 'em first...
So, if your a "youth voter" and are considering voting for Obama....you might want to click the "back" link and find the lead article in the MSNBC business section of this website titled: "One of Two Grads Jobless or Underemployed". Then you might want to think twice about voting for Obama who has ZERO private sector economy experience, is ANTI Capitalism, and has proven he don't know how to get the economy to create JOBS. Romney is a successful private capitalist businessman who understands how to create JOBS and grow the economy. The choice is clear. Elections have consequences. If you vote for Obama, don't complain or blame anyone else when you can't find a JOB.
Our youth is smart enough not to vote for the party of the "job creators" because that lie has been going since 2000 and there are fewer not more jobs. They won't vote for the Romney/Ryan budget because they have parents and aunts and uncles who have paid into social security and deserve their money back. They also don't want to give more tax cuts to the corporations and 1% at the expense of the needy. These young people care more for the poor, women, gays, social justice and equality than all Republicans combined. The negative campaign coming from the Romney camp should increase the % of their vote to Obama.
I do believe it's Romney and wife that believe they are entitled to something. At least they believe it's Mitts turn. That's entitlement!
...and the sheep will be lead to the slaughter.
Well, it looks like the Dutch have gone belly up. Next if France when it elects a "tax the rich" president. We can watch what happens when the "responsible" people all take off for places where they can live. After that Portugal looks to be looming. I just hope this train of events occurs before Nov. All my Euro peers are here for a week long meeting 7 emea countries.....now I can get an un biased opinion from the other side of the pond, while at dinner and relaxing.
Be forewarned... don't eat yellow snow. That's what you're going to get if you expect any trickle down effect from the wealthiest non taxpayers.
They will just keep on wee weeing on you.
Don't worry. They have pot.
Hopefully the youth will note that their idiot siblings who were fooled by the empty rhetoric on the 2008 campaign are living at home with their mommies since they can't get a job under this incompetent who hasn't a clue as to how the economy works. Of course he is attempting to buy their votes with free student loans but maybe more will see that there is life after college and it is better if they could actually get a job and leave home!
Especially the female students. they can hope that the "job creators" grant them employment in Wisconsin so they can be paid less than their male co-workers thanks to that failed Governor Scott Walker. Maybe they can get an entry level job on the rush limbaugh show-paid less and called sluts. There could be openings with the romney campaign-as long as they know their place and report back to their husbands or fathers. Now thats Republican Hope and Change-back to the 1880s.
Feisty Redhead once again leads off the discussion! Has anyone else noticed how often she gets to do this. Is she the Monica Lewinsky on her knees in fron of the editor desk or is she ann editor who taints the pool?
Watermoon:
You really have shown us something about what methods YOU use to get ahead . . . sad to know that you think performing sexual favors is the way to the top . . . sad that you think that who gets the "first comment" is worth you making a comment on . . . clearly you are a real visionary.
Damn.
Watermoon, thats in very poor taste! We all know it only licks around the edges.
Watermoon, I have. She must be head of the liberal attack group on the forums.
Can't leave Clinton alone can you? I'd call you are a pig but calling you that would belittle a decent pig. Sorry Porky and Petunia.............
Seems that cons/thugs are sex fixated. Got that ol disease..."lakanookie"? Get you some..maybe you'll relax a bit....but I digress. Sex is just for procreation right? MY GOD...we wouldn't want to waste good seed right? UGH
Watermoon - Very paranoid and hateful comment. Perhaps she just gets up earlier than you - in more ways that one.
watermoon: you sound like a 3 yr. old. Grow up, who cares who gets the 1st post or why? Jealous!!!!
And, I find your comment very offensive.
Did President Obama tell "the youth" that rather than halve the $10.6 trillion in his first term, as promised, it is nearly $15.7 Trillion, and they have to pay it off?
Good point. The young are the ones he is saddling with that debt. I is too bad that the professors are left wing extremists who don't teach these kids what this debt will do to them, but many might be smart enough to figure it out. Especially as they see there are no jobs for the young because of this incompetents inability to know how our economy works!
Dahly,
He said he would cut the deficit in half not the National Debt.
By Matt Cover, CNSNews.com
Although the national debt under President Barack Obama has increased $4 trillion since he took office in 2009, as a presidential candidate in 2008 Obama criticized then-President George W. Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt, saying it was “unpatriotic” and also “irresponsible” to saddle future generations with such a large national debt.
“The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion dollars for the first 42 presidents -- number 43 added $4 trillion dollars by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion dollars of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child,” Obama said on July 3, 2008, at a campaign event in Fargo, N.D.
“That's irresponsible. It's unpatriotic,” said candidate Obama.
Old article, the National debt is now up nearly $5.1 TRILLION.
Dennis
He hasn't done that now has he?
Dahly,
Take inflation out of the mix by comparing the Debt as a percentage of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In 1945 our National Debt was at 125% of GDP. Today it is at 100% of GDP.
Between 1945 and 1980 we paid the debt down to 37% of GDP but by 1992 it had nearly doubled to 69% of GDP. By the time Bush 43 took office it was down to 57% of GDP and when Obama took over it was back up to 77% of GDP, the highest level since the end of the Truman administration.
soldon,
NO !
The Truth-O-Meter Says:
His proposed budget would "cut our deficit in half by the end of my first term."
Barack Obama on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 in in a news conference.
Obama promises to cut the deficit in half in four years
Share this story:
Defending his budget at a news conference on March 24, President Barack Obama repeated his claim that his plan would cut the deficit in half in five years.
"Both under our estimates and under the CBO estimates, both the most conservative estimates out there, we drive down the deficit over the first five years of our budget," Obama said. "The deficit is cut in half. And folks aren't disputing that."
Earlier in the news conference, Obama said he'd cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. So we'll look at the picture from four and five years out.
According to projections in the Obama administration's proposed budget , released at the end of February, the yearly deficit would go from $1.75 trillion in 2009 to $533 billion in 2013 and $570 billion in 2014. So obviously, by the administration's estimation, the deficit would be cut well more than half whether you measure it until the end of Obama's first term (four years), or five years out.
The Congressional Budget Office projections — released a month later — were not as optimistic. The CBO, a nonpartisan arm of Congress, projected the 2009 deficit at $1.8 trillion, and forecast it would taper down to $672 billion in 2013, then to $749 billion in 2014. Still, even those numbers support Obama's assertion that he'd halve the deficit.
So technically, Obama is correct. But it's a bit misleading.
When Obama says he will halve the deficit, he's comparing it to a 2009 deficit that is massive and far, far above the norm. It's a deficit fueled by a major recession (translation: lost tax revenue) and boosted by costly recession-fixers like the bailouts last fall and the economic stimulus package passed in February. For comparison purposes, we note that the deficit in 2008 was $459 billion (and less than half that the year before). So the deficit is expected to nearly quadruple in 2009.
That's the number Obama promises to cut in half.
"It’s true, but it's very misleading," said Brian Riedl, a research fellow in federal budget policy at the conservative Heritage Foundation. "It's true because they quadrupled the deficit this year and then they'll cut that in half." Riedl notes that Obama's projected deficits in four and five years will be "significantly higher" than deficits before the recession.
"It's quite easy to cut that in half," echoed Jonathan DeWald, a spokesman for the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan organization that specializes in analysis of budget deficits.
Obama was quick to point out that he inherited much of this year's goliath deficit. And he's mostly right. The deficit began skyrocketing before Obama ever took office. In January, the CBO projected the 2009 deficit would balloon to $1.2 trillion. A worsening economy, the burden of the economic stimulus package, and projected spending in Obama's budget led the CBO in late March to revise its 2009 deficit projection to $1.8 trillion. So Obama can't claim that he inherited the entire deficit. But suffice to say the huge jump in the 2009 deficit is not a result of Obama's proposed budget.
We note one other point. Although Obama's budget plan is expected to more than halve the 2009 projected deficit in four and five years out, after that, the CBO projects that deficits will begin to grow again, and significantly. The CBO's 10-year outlook predicts a deficit of $1.2 trillion in 2019. That's far more pessimistic than the Obama administration's projections, which Obama rightly attributed in the news conference to different assumptions about the future growth of the economy.
"Now, none of us know exactly what's going to happen six or eight or 10 years from now," Obama said. "Here's what I do know: If we don't tackle energy, if we don't improve our education system, if we don't drive down the costs of health care, if we're not making serious investments in science and technology and our infrastructure, then we won't grow 2.6 percent, we won't grow 2.2 percent. We won't grow."
And to be extra clear, deficits are one-year snapshots. They represent a revenue versus expenses picture for that year. In other words, Obama is not saying he will be cutting the national debt by half in four or five years. To the contrary, the CBO projects the running total of the country's national debt — which was around $7 trillion when Obama took office — will increase to nearly $12 trillion in four years.
In summary, Obama is correct when he says the CBO predicts that under Obama's budget plan, the deficit would be cut in half in five year. But he's comparing it to a year we all hope is a major anomaly, which makes the dramatic-sounding achievement much easier. So we rule his statement Mostly True.
sorry
I find some of thefight for our youth very unfair when it comes to equality for them.
For instance: In order to qualify for a student loann or a grant all males must be registered with selective service.
Under current law, all male U.S. citizens, or illegal immigrents are required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Women are not requires to register, nor men who were female at birth and have changed sex are not required to register.
Where is the equality? Why do not women fight for the right to be equal when it comes to selective service registration when one turns 18?
Why do not those who have had a sex change? For there to be equality the same laws should apply to all, including selective service registration and disqualifications of government programs if one does not register.
The reason that women, at least in our society, are not required to fight in combat situations is for the propagation of the species. It actually is more complicted than that, of course. But that is the simplest way to put it. The species that survives the longest is, in evolution's eyes, the most succcessful. So the need to thrive is something that is programmed into our genes. And as 1 man can impregnate a lot of women, the need for multiple donors is not as great as the need for multiple egg producers. As far as the need to have people who have had their gender changed be required to register it will take time for the law to catch up to the changes that science and our lifestyles have brought to fruition.
There is not and never will be true equality between the sexes. There are things a man can do that a woman can't and vice a versa. But I think that in the thousands of years that we have been here, the majority of us have learned to compliment each other and ourselves. In other words-life is not always fair. Deal with it.
"Vote for me and I'll give you money."
What a great message! Vote for me, and I'll take money from someone else, and give it to you, or maybe I'll just print more money, and you won't have to worry about it, we'll pass it along to your children and grandchildren.
In all fairness, Republicans have a similar message. "Vote for me, and I'll take less of your money."
It's always about money, everyone knows that. Democrats want to share (i.e. redistribute wealth) and the Republicans want keep as much as they can of what they make.
I just want to throw a wake up call out there. It's not called sharing if you are the one receiving. You can't share someone else's money, you can only share your own.
If someone voluntarily shares what they have, that's called sharing. If you force someone to share what they have, that's called stealing.
Team Obama is focusing on the youth vote-no surprise there. The majority of the population realize what a doofus he is and badly he has ruined the country and our economy. But won't Obama and his team feel foolish when they realize that the youth of this country are not as gullible as they seem to think.
You are just another low information voter. What A Shame.
OK- what is a low information voter? That's a new one. I always check out the issues before I vote. I'm not going to waste the vote I have on something I haven't investigated thoroughly.
Not getting the actual facts. But, instead just listening to GOP false talking points.
Or you will when the young women reject all Republicans because of Virginia's vaginal probes, Failed gov. Scott Walkers unequal pay, Rush limbaugh's anti woman slander, Arizona trying to reduce reproductive rights and just plain backward ideas.
Job1 you mean "opinions" Different ones at that.

Job1 - It's a shame you had to explain that Barbara.
Job1-FYI-My answer was not interpreted very well, I see. I guess it is hard for you and others of your ilk to recognize satire when the inflections in ones voice cannot be heard. Oh well, my bad. The only part of my reply that actually was true was where I said " I'm not going to waste the vote I have on something I haven't investigated thoroughly". Sorry to have confused you and kimH (not). And realist pondering? Maybe you can discount the all of the moderates in this country and cry the sky is falling when the ultra right sing their songs, but it still is majority rule and they (the ultra-conservative) don't have as much power as you want to give them.
