Gingrich's future hinges on Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. -- The future of Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign seems to hinge on the Delaware primary early next week.

"Tuesday is a big day," a source close to the Gingrich campaign told NBC News. "Newt is just waiting to see what happens on Tuesday."

Up until now, Gingrich has promised to take his campaign all the way to the Republican convention in Tampa at the end of the summer, although the odds are not in his favor.

The former House speaker has been spending the majority of his time the past three weeks in the First State. Gingrich has made at least 12 campaign stops in Delaware thus far while the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney, has held just one event there.

Gingrich campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond said they are "optimistic" about the results in the state.

"Because Delaware is a small state it has allowed us to campaign effectively," Hammond said.

“We are looking for a bounce from Delaware and, with a good showing in the state, we will spend a lot of time on the phone with donors."

The campaign originally said late Friday night that the speaker would spend Monday campaigning in Delaware and then would head to Virginia (where Gingrich lives) for Tuesday. Just 30 minutes later, the campaign said Gingrich would be in North Carolina next week instead.

"Newt's North Carolina trip next week is back on - there was a communications glitch," Hammond told NBC News about the error.

The primaries on April 24 will be the first time voters take to the polls since Rick Santorum withdrew from the race earlier this month. The speaker, who has been campaigning as "the last conservative standing," hopes to capture a unified conservative vote with Santorum's absence.

But, even with a win in Delaware, Gingrich will still have just three victories under his belt and a minimal delegate count compared to Romney. Campaigning in New York City Thursday night, Gingrich even seemed to take a conciliatory tone at times during his speech.

"If I were to become the nominee, he [Romney] would work all out because it is our grandchildren's future at stake. If he becomes the nominee, Callista and I will work out because it is our grandchildren's future at stake," he said. "The fact is we are dedicated to a unified Republican Party, winning the presidency on behalf of America's future."

Gingrich holds two more events in Delaware Saturday.

............THE COLORADO STATE GOP CONVENTION FINALS.............. LIBERTY IS POPULAR.........When it came time for representatives of the four presidential candidates — former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is still campaigning, though his support at the Colorado convention appeared to be minimal — to address the crowd of some 5,000 delegates, alternates, candidates and activists, the arena shook with cheers and applause each time Paul's name was mentioned. In a familiar antic, Paul supporters shouted out their candidate's name at nearly every opportunity, including shouting over speakers when the occasion arose. Instead of the musical taunt "Hey, hey, goodbye," for instance, Paul's fans instead turned the chant to, "Hey, hey, Ron Paul!"

Gingrich's future is not in politics or this race, and it hasn't been for a long time. The reason he's hung on so long is he's trying to sell more copies of his book.

Are all republicans this stupid? He's no longer in the game and yet he continues to think he is.

I guess there is a reason for calling him Nutty Newt.

One, he preaches morals, and yet he lacks in them, two, he wants to save America by cutting government spending, and yet he and his wife can't even pay their Tiffani's bill, three, he thinks the American people are too dumb to think for themselves, and they are not giving him the time of day, and four, he thinks god will save him and the people, and the people can do just fine without both.

All were eventually dropped except for one—the ethics panel "finding that Gingrich repeatedly violated one rule by using a political consultant to develop the Republican legislative agenda";[74] that is, claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes. [74] Instead, the House officiallyreprimanded Gingrich (in a vote of 395 in favor, 28 opposed) and "ordered [him] to reimburse the House for some of the costs of the investigation in the amount of $300,000".[75][76] It was the first time a Speaker was disciplined for an ethics violation.[77][78]

      Yes.

That's why the media touted Mitt as the "most electable" for months on end... and now we discover he's the weakest front runner since the 1920's, with the highest negatives of any front runner since they've been keeping records on this. And he's a lousy campaigner who has difficulty dealing with the media... and who nobody likes.

Meanwhile, the media was constantly saying that Newt was "not viable" "undisciplined" who had "too much baggage" and gleefully proclaimed his campaign "dead" multiple times.

Let's see... Who would Obama rather run against?

A mediocre inauthentic typical Massachusetts moderate one-term governor with a mixed record, who's been running for president for 6 years, spending tens of millions... and still can't get majority support or the trust of the base.... and who implemented a socialized health care program that Obama used as the basis for his nationally socialized health care program.

      or

The 20th century conservative movement warrior, anti-establishment reformer and Reagan torchbearer, who helped him get elected in the 1980 landslide... and who designed and led the national movement against the Washington establishment that resulted in the largest landslide sweep of congress in history, where a record 9 million new voters turned out to end 40 years of Democratic control... and as Speaker, did the most in over a half-century to rein in the establishment's power and spending... and reformed the dysfunctional institutions the establishment relied on to entrench themselves in power.

Any guesses on who the media wants to put in the ring with Obama?

Newton must have a terrible temper - because - all of the people around him are too afraid to tell him that he does not pass the morals or ethics tests to get elected POTUS.

Plus, Newton has the charisma of a rutabaga. His chances of getting elected POTUS are somewhere between zip, zero, nada, slim, none, and not a chance. (That almost sounds like a Washington, DC law firm.) Newton has a better chance of becoming the next Pope, or Grand Vizier of BoogaBoogistan.

By even thinking he has a chance of becoming POTUS demonstrates that Newton has impaired reasoning. He needs to get serious about returning to the rocks and moss status of obscure former politician.

Newton has had more than 15 seconds or 15 minutes of fame, culminating in dishonor, censure and fines. Yet, Newton plods along as if nothing bad ever happened to him. D E N I A L is more than a river in Egypt.

I have just spent the last two hours reading comments and related articles on that Examiner blog that the RWNJ linked to above about the Obama lawyer saying the long form birth certificate released last year is a forgery.......My Lord these delusional people are scary.....They are really making me think they start some kind of armed revolt when Obama is re-elected....And people like Ted Nugent the Pseudo rock star are fueling the fire...If he wasn't a citizen he wouldn't be President....If you are a patriotic American you will vote in November and live with the results just as we have since the founding....If they cancel elections and there is some kind of coup then and only then would it be patriotic to take up arms, not because Ted Nugent and some lying ass blogger said Obama is coming to take your hunting rifle and put you in a communist re-education camp.....

It is very alarming that more than a few thousand people could be this delusional....Someone in the republican party needs to stand firm and speak loudly against this because they are causing this and that is very Anti-American.......If a Republican were to take this time to stand up I might even consider voting for them, otherwise without doubt there is no decision to even make for a non-delusional,rational person to make other than Obama/Biden or don't vote at all.....But do not advocate violent overthrowing of a legally elected President because if you do you are committing sedition and while we are at war with a globally organized terror you are allying yourself with that enemy and supporting the same ideas of causing the west to fail....

By the way Feisty they can't figure out how to refresh the page and catch a story when it is first posted as you do to be the first comment so you must be an insider with ties to the POTUS....And we never landed on the MOON ( Sarcasm intended )

...and yet they believe they are patriots! It's all due to the propaganda they've been fed by Rupert Murdoch'a machine, by the Koch brothers, and by the rich and their paid lobbyists, who have been able to persuade certain weak-minded individuals to vote against their own interests.

Obama will win a second term simply because he is the best man for the job. Reality is reality, no matter how they spin it.

Fortunately, there are still enough people in this country who have the intelligence and common sense to resist the negative propaganda blitz of the GOP.

Gingrich was also the first Speaker of the House to be disciplined for ethics violations in the 200 year history of the House of Representatives. Eighty-four ethics charges were filed against Gingrich. the House officially reprimanded Gingrich (in a vote of 395 in favor, 28 opposed) and "ordered [him] to reimburse the House for some of the costs of the investigation in the amount of $300,000".

          ................................ REAL NEWS TODAY................................................

When it came time for representatives of the four presidential candidates — former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is still campaigning, though his support at the Colorado convention appeared to be minimal — to address the crowd of some 5,000 delegates, alternates, candidates and activists, the arena shook with cheers and applause each time Paul’s name was mentioned. In a familiar antic, Paul supporters shouted out their candidate’s name at nearly every opportunity, including shouting over speakers when the occasion arose. Instead of the musical taunt “Hey, hey, goodbye,” for instance, Paul’s fans instead turned the chant to, “Hey, hey, Ron Paul!”

...........RON PAUL WINS THE FIRST STATE CONVENTION............

They call it a representitive form of government for a reason.

Outmaneuvered by backers — in league with a zealous cadre of highly organized supporters of Texas Congressman Ron Paul — Romney found himself holding the short end of the Colorado stick yet again. After three days of delegate selection, Romney could claim just 13 of the state’s 33 elected delegates. The remainder, a solid majority, were still standing with Santorum and Paul.

Stop being fools for the media... Let the real delegate counting begin..

          Just one problem-

Even Ron Paul does not want Nother four years of Obma.

He will, in fact, release his delegates, and support Romney.

So should you. Ask yourself- what else is Obama planning to be "flexible" about? Look at Obamacare- if that doesn't scare you, nothing will. Your a Paul follower, correct? Therefore, you understand the Tenth Amendment? Understand the difference between healthcare bill in a state, or commonwealth, and a national plan?

The fate of this nation is at stake. Ron Paul understands that. When he explains it- will you listen?

You are 100% correct... But again if Ron Looses then we will push for him to go independent..... But that is not going to happen..... When the news starts breaking here in a few weeks that Obama was forced to reveal his birth certificate is indeed fake in court as he just had to admit.... Those Obama supporters who want personal liberty's will start swarming to Ron Paul over Romney,, even if its a win for him as the independent.. Better to just do this now and get behind Paul... Adleson is just playing his games for now, but if he does not get his war this summer he will destroy Obama with his same media these guys used to put him on the map...... but screw Adleson... Liberty is putting up a good fight too and were gonna win back her country one way or the other if we can!!!

Yeah, ya think ,,, they only asked him that question every time they would talk to him in an attempt to make a statement of defeat at the beginning of a race.. Did they ask Romney that??... He continually told them that "at this time, I would have no intention to do that"" the polls are misleading, we have done allot better at the district levels than the media is reporting" ... TRUTH

No matter what, we are not going to let Paul leave our sides and we will not leave his.. He is ours.. We are his... We love America and want our Republic back!!! Personal liberty's with the federal government doing its job to uphold the constitution is what we want!!! War ended is what we want.. Debts paid down is what we want.. The fed audit is what we want.. Bailouts for the problem causers to be stopped is what we want.. WE WANT CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN and yes, we said it first before the media stole it.. BUT WE MEANT IT!!!!

I thought it was too early for Santorum to quit & I certainly think that Gingrich as well as Paul shoulf stay in the race for a few more months. We needed a chance to get to know them better before settling on Romney. I don't like that Romney wants the Presidency so bad that he first was nasty to the other candidates then he just started ignoring that they are/were still in the race. Too presumptous for me and disloyal to the party. It is not up to Romney to decide that none of the voters were still interested in anyone but him. It is like he has tied them to the roof of his campaing bus & has taken off down Highway flying an "ignor them & just look at me" flag from the anntena.

Care4 the addicted moonbats such as the ones here on FR don't care about bammy's citizenship or the fact that he hates Caucasians because he hates his mother but uses her birthright for his citizenship. He is a citizen by birth but is not a citizen by the virtue of supporting this Country as laid out by the founding fathers. Case in point, a scholar in constitutional law takes an oath to uphold the constitution but in reality passes a law that blatantly voilates that said constitution and if that violation is upheld by the SCOTUS then what does said citizen become. bammy becomes a citizen who ran for POTUS, was elected and used his presidency to unconstitutionaly change this great country, that is why he is not a citizen of the United States of America and neither will the people be who support him. Once again Care4 the addicted ones don't really care don't expect moonbat support for Sen. Paul.

Newt needs to get out now and concentrate on repaying all the debt he has incurred as a result of his ill-conceived candidacy. No one ever thought that he had a serious chance at becoming the repub nominee.
But instead he decided to waste incredible amounts of time and money traveling around the country, shoving that pudgy mug into the faces of the press and cameramen, while racking up thousands upon thousands in debt to small businesses who were naive enough to provide services to him. Have you ever thought there could be greater force at work here that carrys from one administration to the next ran by the same network of international bankers?

Obama failure is as large again.. It has only continued... Look at the BANK OF INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENTS and see how much US banks are on the hook for the next big theft.. Its the only place you'll find off balance sheet reports.. Obama allowed another banker fraud to take root in a market called CDS... Our unfunded exposure to the EU in country's like Italy and Spain that are ready to tank is another 7.5 trillion.. The bailouts for MS global as well as many other smaller fry were the tip of the iceberg and it was just tiny little Greece.. There's gold in them there derivatives...pfffd.. Listen to Warren.. Dirivatives are the real weapons of mass destruction.. I can't believe Obama just turned a blind eye for them while the banks were putting 100 million of donations to his 2012 election over the last 3 years in exchange... but he did....... Here is my favourite Ron Paul quote... " If our Treasury's are good to sell for dollar BILLS to be repaid back at interest... and the people think fiat money is ok to receive... then why not print our own US currency against the Treasury's interest free??... Why buy worthless paper for our good debt that enslaves our nation to a private bank?... (in other words tax free... like Kennedy did shortly till he was killed)... Also, why not make sure only the American people can get it dirrectly for projects to rebuild the country in the same manor that the WPA was used to get people back to work during the last great deppresion... As we inject new money into the system, lets allow it to compete with the federal reserve BILLS and let the people decide which to hold.. Lets also put the gold in knox to work as money again and issue it to the people through small programs that large contractors can not be party to.. LETS GET THE SMALL GUY RICH AGAIN...Lets bring home the troops and keep them on the pay of fed notes but by closing waste, lets start paying off the fed notes and make that currency secure for the future.. and at least make good on our debts as a nation.. Bringing that budget back to our streets will make the economy boom instead of wasting it to prop up other countrys.. I AGREE.. AMERICA FIRST..

Anyone who is familiar with the size of Delaware knows that it takes less than 1 day to make 12 appearances there. To claim he went all out campaigning in that state is a joke and shows just how lazy Newt really is, knowing there is no way he can win the nomination. It does, however, beg the question of whether or not he was able to secure an endorsement from Christine O'Donnell, the official GOP witch.

Fact is if Romney didn't have so much money and the Marriott chain supporting his SuperPacs he would be nowhere. It is commendable that Newt and Paul are staying in and showing the American way of Democracy -- differing opinions and voices. The power of the Presidency is enormous. We the people should not allow it to simply be bought by one less than capable guy. This is a democracy not a plutocracy. I hope Newt and Paul stay in till the end, and make Mitt prove wheather he is worth our vote.

kos - never on the face of this earth would I say Romney would be entitled to any vote

If elected my husband and I - who by the way was a staunch Republican for thirty years would seek political refuge in Canada - we tried it under Bush - now we would go on bended knee and declare asylum!

By ALL means Newt, keep chugging along and taking swipes at Romney. Romney is as unelectable as the entire rest of the Republican field unless you figure women don't vote.

Most of the right wing teapublicans kept saying how smart Newt Gingrich is but it seems like he had better come up with some more money because his intellect depends on how much money he has. Callista should be breaking camp from him when he runs out of money to buy her things and to keep her hair white. LOL.

Gingrich's past is his problem, his present is his problem, and his future will be his problem. Romney the liar made it worse than it was, as is his compulsive habit. Huckabee, McCain, and Santorum also have encountered Mitt's lies.

All Gingrich has going to Tampa is debt, Calista the III, and a sack of Tiffany jewelry.

Gangrich should have dropped out long before Santorum did. He doesn't have the votes or support of the people. He's a crook and unethical. Romney is so far out of touch with the people that Obama will win hands down. Romney only supports the very top 1% of the people, he cares only for giving breaks to them and big oil.

Please, the Christian Reich trying to push their @!$%#s into the highest office only believes in the freedom of religion if it applies to their own. If they had things their way, those not conforming to Christian dogma would be second class citizens. Their attempt to push their views into state and nationwide laws proves this. They don't care for Jews, they hate Muslims and thinks anyone who isn't a follower of a recongnized religion is a socialist, communist or a follower of Satan.

Romney is real good at adding and subracting. He's good at adding money to his pocket while subtracting workers and jobs.

George W. Bush inherited a strong economy, a budget surplus, and a nation at peace. Eight years later, he left Obama with a shattered economy, a trillions+ dollar deficit, and two useless wars.

Pres Obama stopped the country from another Great Depression, rebuilt GM, reformed healthcare (for better or worse), reformed Wall Street, doubled the stock market, created 8 straight quarters of GDP growth, created 22 straight months of private sector job growth, got Bin Laden, got Gaddafi, and got us out of Iraq.

And now with the automatic spending cuts and the expiration of the Bush tax cuts in 2012, Obama has solved the deficit problem as well.

                            What has Romney done?

As far as I'm concerned my choices are: Ron Paul > Pres Obama > Newt > Mitt.

Yes.. I would vote for Obama before I vote for anyone but Ron Paul, AND so are TONS of people that I know.

Bush inherited 9/11...how would have the current POTUS handled it? Only speculation would be the answer but his policy so far would lead one to believe that he might now have been much different. This was the single most devasting thing to the country since WWII in so many ways....economy, security etc etc.

Yeah, differnet in a good way.

-First Obama wouldn't have been a deer caught in the headlights reading my little goat to school kids for 20 minutes.

-Second, Obama would have focused on the real threat, Osama and Al Queda instead of invading a soverign nation with no ties to 9-11.

-Third, seal team six would have taken out Osama within the first couple of years. No quagmire of unwinable wars. No lost billions to no-bid contractors and paid corrupt officals. No thousands of dead soldiers coming home in body bags.

At the end of his 8 years there'd be a Clintonesque surplus instead of a huge, unsurmountable deficit. And we could probably all go to the doctor when needed without worrying about bankruptcy... ;)

This is my favorite part "At the end of his 8 years there'd be a Clintonesque surplus instead of a huge, unsurmountable deficit. And we could probably all go to the doctor when needed without worrying about bankruptcy... ;)" Factoring in the fact that most of the world is being affected by this WORLD WIDE economic crisis, you likely think butterflies fall out of his butt too.

You teatards have a very short memory. From 1976 to 1992 you whined and cried, moan and groaned and complained and complained more and bitched, carried on and on and blamed President Carter of everything wrong in the entire universe. Then from 1992 to 2008 you whined and cried, moan and groaned and complained and complained more and bitched, carried on and on and blamed President Clinton for everything that was wrong in the entire universe. So – using the standard you set – the left has another 29 years to blame Bush for everything just to pull even with you.

First it was the moral majority.

Then the Christian Coalition of America

And the modern day movement, the Tea Party, although they are downplaying their religious components.

Gingrich's pineapple has no sleeves. And the Republican animals will eat him soon.

Gingrich is a done deal. No one will vote for him and no one will fund him. Stick a fork in him, he's long gone. he's old and should be doing retirement stuff.

Conservatives get to vote for Romney, oh what fun LOL

Yes, stick a fork in that big belly of Newt's - he's done. There seems to be only two people who don't realize he is done - Newt and callista. She still has visions of being the first "First Lady" who had an affair with her husband before he divorced his wife and married her.

If Newt can't keep his checkbook straight enough to not bounce a $500 check, what makes you think he could ever balance a budget for the US?

Now, he needs to give the taxpayers some relief by announcing that he no longer needs Secret Service Protection.

My portfolio has increased in value since President Obama has been in office - I am very happy and I will vote for President Obama in November.

More people were on food stamps under the Bush Administration, and unemployment skyrocketed during his last year and a half in office. But lets not let facts get in the way of a good rant of talking points thrown out there by fox "news" or by some other right wing hacks.

Really Fred??? Even Romney says the economy is turning around. My Roth IRA and other investments I have made are making a strong come back. Sorry if President Obama isn't cleaning up Bush's mess fast enough for you.
