Subscribe to RSSWASHINGTON -- You can add it to the ever-growing catalog of times Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has denied he will be the vice presidential pick.
The rising GOP star on Thursday flatly said he would tell Mitt Romney, "No," if the presumptive Republican nominee asked him to join the ticket in November.
Speaking to National Journal's Major Garrett, the tea party favorite even offered up some names of his own that might make a good choice.

"We've got a lot of really talented people out there that Mitt Romney can get to pick from," Rubio said. "And I think a lot -- Sen. Rob Portman would be a phenomenal choice for vice president, that's where I would encourage him to look, because I'm enjoying my service in the Senate."
(That could be some gamesmanship by Rubio, considering Garrett wrote a piece predicting Portman would be Romney's choice.)
But those wanting to continue to fan the flames of the Rubio VP speculation can read into a tongue slip made by the Sunshine State senator just moments after dismissing his prospects of joining Romney's White House run.
"If I do a good job as vice president," he said, before quickly correcting himself. "I'm sorry. If I do a good job as a senator, instead of as vice president."
Rubio, a Cuban-American who speaks Spanish and represents the key swing state of Florida, has been in vice-presidential speculation since his high-profile Senate win in 2010. Romney has acknowledged the problems he and the party has with Latinos and the need to win them over. He has said there needs to be a Republican DREAM Act, something Rubio is crafting.
Though he has continually denied both that he will be asked and that he would accept a VP nod, Rubio today made sure to point out inexperience was not a factor.
"I'll be more experienced next year than I am this year," he said. "But I think that's true for all of us. I'm not new to politics," he said, before citing his nine years in the Florida legislature, winning a high-profile campaign and spending the last year and a half in Washington.
Rubio, who was speaking at a program organized by National Journal to discuss the country's changing demographics, said he hopes his DREAM Act is ready by the summer. But he acknowledged the challenges that come with passing laws during an election year -- especially those dealing with immigration reform.
"What I'm suspecting is, some people are really counting on this to be used as a wedge in this election," he said. "The thought of it somehow being solved...is terrifying for them."
When countered with the theory that Rubio is bringing the issue to the forefront now to help Republicans overcome their Hispanic hurdle in the fall, he said, "I don't think one bill is going to change whatever that disadvantage may be."
Regardless of whether he is on the ticket, Rubio said he is optimistic the former Massachusetts governor will support the bill.
"He's now the leader of the Republican Party," Rubio said, "so I would hope to convince him to support a concept like this."

Rubio: "Well, no, but we have a plan to let a few Latinos gain citizenship if nobody in my party minds."
That will be the end of the dream for Latino support for Rubio.
We are talking about the same Rubio who co-sponsored the Blunt/Rubio bill in the Senate, right? And he thinks that helped him with women? Or his Rubio Dream Act----where a person here illegally through no fault of their own, having been brought here as an infant, can serve in the military and become a legal resident but never gets to be a citizen? That will help with the Latino support, won't it?

Oh Rubio, don't you know a person like Romney is going to use you and then throw you under a bus? Romney just wants your help with Hispanics via your diluted version of the Dream Act. And he will want help in the state of Florida, to be sure. But will he flip-flop on what he said about selecting a VP who is qualified to be POTUS if necessary? Will he risk his own chance to be POTUS by making a similar mistake to McCain and choosing a junior, unvetted person? Don't count on it. Romney is only about Romney.

As a native of S Florida for 65 years, I can tell you Rubio is a big favorite of the Cuban-American voters. I'll add that I'm not hispanic nor black. I just see the way it is.
There's obviously something wrong with the polls when there's an 11 point difference between this poll and Gallup. Gee, I wonder if the questions were skewed?
Of course, polls at this point are meaningless, especially since Romney is largely unknown by most of the public - Once his message gets passed along, his numbers will improve.
My personal projection shows Obama in SERIOUS trouble, since his core groups are not very excited this time around.

The GOP Dream Act , providing legalized status but not citizenship for military or college grads, is a good idea. For one thing, it will display the obvious fact that the Dems only care about illegals if they can get their votes immediately.

No, Obama like the rest of us with at least a high school diploma figured out that the Republicans screwed things up so royally that they had to get fixed. Of course, the R's have been saying 'no' to everything, but O and company have managed to make things somewhat better since Jan 2009.
There's a fundamental reason why the R's don't like 'big' government: the only thing they know is how to screw up a government of any size. When given a chance to make things smaller...a la the Bush years...they screw that up too. They hope and pray that if they run a 'small government' their mistakes will be minimized.

I work for an insurance company. Benefits have been reduced while premiums have skyrocketed. That's been going on for the past 10 yrs.
Obama healthcare act does not even go into full effect till 2014. The good thing, and that is for everyone, is now there is no pre-existing conditions, and you children can be covered up to a higher age.

Romney does not have the slightest idea of the economy. You can tell by his constant chirping for tax breaks. Sorry, we've had 'em for years and they provided no help to the average American. But they did help businesses, especially the largest corporations who actually made record profits during these lean years that the rest of us have lived through. In his rosey world, all is fine and dandy.
Frank, just remember that corporations do not pay taxes. The money they receive for paying corporate tax comes from the consumer. It called embedded taxes and makes up an average of 22% of what you pay in retail prices. If the corporation exports goods or services these embedded taxes make us less competitive overseas.

Rubio's Dream Act should be called the Nightmare Act, since it will be a nightmare for any young latino graduating trying to become an american citizen because this act won't make it happen. That would be a true nightmare.

Based on what I have seen of the republican field this election I do not believe Rubio has to worry about becoming vice president.
So why does this "anchor baby" get a second glance, let alone hold public office. If the GOP is deluded enough to believe that this Cubano is representitive of all Hispanics, then they are more out of touch with the electorate than previously believed. If you're a child of a Cubano, it's "Bienvenidos a los Estados Unidos!" If your a child of a Mexicano, it's, "Go back to Mexico!" Making Rubio a unannointed spokesperson to take the pulse of Hispanics is about as laughable as coaching a 6 year old to ask for political asylum and actually expecting the State department to listen.
He holds public office because he was elected .....Cubans were given political asylum. Mexicans come because of the living conditions and lack of jobs..... You idiots, A Natural Born Citizen is someone born to TWO (Both) parents who are already US Citizens at the time of the child's birth and born after the ratification of the US Constitution in 1787. Of course, we know Rubio was born in Miami. He parents were NOT US Citizens yet at the time of his birth, thus he is NOT a Natural BOrn Citizen. Nor is Obama, because the father he claims, was NEVER a US Citizen.

Romney needs to get Bozo the Clown cause there is no better known candidate for the GOP VP. Rubio might can help the Cuban American groups but the Mexican American groups he will be lost with. Romney, until November will tell the middle class and the lower class that he will make their world so much better than Obama could ever make it. Classically you want nominees from big states, who come to the election with a lot of electoral votes - not like Gore from TN, who still would've been president if he had carried his home state (FL would've then been a moot point). Thus Romney/Rubio would be a strong geographic pairing, and would have the potential to give the incumbents (incumbency being a HUGE advantage) a bit of trouble.
Rubio could also help with the Mexican vote as could be going out and campaigning in Spanish.
