Congressman says 80 fellow lawmakers are communists

Updated 3:31 p.m. - Freshman Rep. Allen West (R-FL) claimed at a town hall meeting that about 80 members of Congress are communists, a remark which has drawn quick fire from opponents.

"I believe there's about 78 to 81 members of the democratic party that are members of the communist party," West told supporters at a town hall meeting in Jensen Beach, FL. He was responding to a question by a participant who asked, "what percentage of the American legislature do you think are card carrying Marxists?"

Doug Murray / Reuters

Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., claimed at a town hall meeting that about 80 members of Congress are communists, a remark which has drawn quick fire from opponents.

Asked to respond to the comments, West spokeswoman Angela Marvin told NBC News that the Congressman was referring to the 76 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

"The Congressman was referring to the 76 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus," Marvin said in a written statement. "The Communist Party has publicly referred to the Progressive Caucus as its allies."

"The Progressive Caucus speaks for itself," Marvin continued, "These individuals certainly aren't proponents of free markets or individual economic freedom."

West's office also referred to a post on the website for the Communist Party USA where it says they made a mistake by turning "away from our allies in Congress, the Progressive Caucus, and John Conyers" during their fight for a single-payer system being included in Obama's health care law.

Libro DellaPiana, who is one of the vice chairs of the Communist Party USA, called West's statements "ridiculous" and "a cheap shot."

"There are no members of Congress in the Communist party," DellaPiana said, "We support public parks and I assume Congressmen West does too, that doesn't mean he's a Communist."

Allen West has been thrust into the spotlight after a number of notable Republicans listed him as a possible running-mate for Mitt Romney in the general election.  Of those who have called for West to be considered is Sarah Palin, Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC), and Herman Cain.

This isn't the first time West has criticized a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. In January of last year, West criticized Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Rep Keith Ellison (D-MN) as "someone that really does represent the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established" because he is a practicing Muslim.

Unbelievable!

This moron sounds like he's competing with bat sh!t crazy Bachmann for the Joe McCarthy award!

With representatives like this, do the RWNJ's actually believe they are going to re-take anything in November other then Meter Maids?

Calling elected members of Congress certainly will not sit well with independents & moderates...

Only 80 members of congress? Try 193 in the house and 53 in the senate. The democratic party is a bunch of communists.

And a bunch of liars, too. Alan said, "someone that really does represent the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established" because he is a practicing Muslim. (NOTE THE END OF HIS QUOTE AND THE FOLLOWING INTERPRETATION is an outright LIE!!!) Rep Keith Ellison represents the "antithesis of the [founding] principles" because he's a progressive, not because he's a Muslim.

I was told when I was a boy that the Congress was a body of wise men and women who were well educated and did what was best for the country. This know nothing, freshman congressman proved that wrong all by himself, and the rest of his tea party friends are all in the same boat. In the 21st century, surely no teacher tries to put that image into their student's heads. I am a Formerly republican Democrat. As long as GOP losers like this infest Congress, I will not vote for any member of their party. What has happened to the GOP?

I wonder how long it will take the judge to dismiss the charge for lack of evidence.

Sorry, he is right. He is honest enough to say it. The progressive caucus sides with many of the same issues, they don't shy away from them. Read thier material, webpage and see how they vote. They all support a tax rate of the wealthy up to 91%. Utopia, wealth distribution. Very proud of West, wish the rest would stand up the way he does. Its time to careless about being PC.

Anyone reading this article should see the clear message that it is impossible to reason with people from the Tea Party/GOP. These people are completely crazy. Feisty said it better, but crazy will suffice here.

Any wonder that the Tea Party/GOP has not been able to accomplish anything since 2010? I wouldn't want my name on any bill presented by one of those losers. And it is clear that in their warped minds that this guy would make a great running mate for Romney? PLEASE LET HIM. BY ALL MEANS. That would be the final nail in their coffin.

The far right gets crazier by the day. Maybe Allen West should check his own TP conservative party for card-carrying members of the neo-Nazis--that makes about as much sense as his own idiotic comments. Typical GOPer fear mongering; in the words of Michael Douglas's fictional American President, they are good at "making you afraid of it and telling you who is to blame for it".

Oh, Rational One, you just reminded us that if it weren't for "progressives", we'd still be flying the British flag because "conservatives" supported the redcoats, prefering baby steps to rocking the boat.

MRSWR, it's the complicity of the majority that allows those holding the majority of the wealth to continue to do so, not any natural right. Nature allots each creature a share of resources proportional to what it can gather and utilize. At its root, it's unnatural for any creature to accrue disproportionate wealth. The wealthy are monstrosities created by a disfunctional society and sustained by a pervasive system of indoctrination and coercion. Like any abomination of nature, the super-wealthy are destructive of the very system that sustains them. Like any monstrosity of nature, they should be destroyed.

Members of Congress are supposed to be "Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen"; the only thing that West has distinguished himself as is a religious and economic bigot. By his standard of conduct, then, it should be okay to say that members of the Tea Party Caucus are really members of the Nazi Party, isn't it? Well, I don't share West's lack of respect and self-discipline, so suffice it to say that members of the Tea Party who support West are equally bigoted individuals, deserving of no more protection of freedoms than they offer to others.

How any voter could vote for this evil crazy man is beyond me. His mental state should be evaluated before the congressional primary in August. His outbursts of irrational statements, should make him a candidate for anger management therapy. He contributes nothing to the conversation much less to the business of the people.

He ran from his old district as he knew he wouldn't win, now he is becoming a scourge to an area north of his old area and continues his bomb throwing. The Republican party in Fl should be ashamed to support this hate filled individual, who for all his ranting about government being too big and cut this and that, he has for most of his adult life, been paid by the taxpayers.

First in the Army, who eventually dismissed him for bad behavior for which he should have been court martialed in Iraq, now serving in the House further showing us, how stupid voters are to send someone like this to represent them...all on our dime. Tea Party Republicans really are themselves, hate filled and ignorant so I guess they have a 'good' representative.

That's it. The GOP has gone out of control. The moment he said the word communist was the moment that the GOP lost its integrity. Apparently I'm a Communist, as I am a Democrat. If you are a communist and can get eleceted in your district, too dang bad for Mr. West and his ilk. Hey Congressman!, welcome to America - Love it or Leave it!

Apparently not. Apparently the GOP still wishes to denounce liberals as communists. Well if I'm a communist then my Republican friends are fascists.

Do you think that the GOP is putting these total wack-jobs in the spotlight in the hope that Americans will not notice that the GOP as a whole are not doing the jobs they've been elected to do?

I would think that, after the infinite scandals that disgraced and defeated the GOP in 2006, they would have been smart enough to regroup and get to the business of running this country during difficult times for all. What little respect they have for their electorate if they think that this is working...but, then again, when you run around with tea bags stapled to your forehead, I guess you deserve very little respect.

[no one ever paid a 91% tax rate , a simple internet search will clear up the rhetoric that has confused liberals]

    if you have to ask,

Since you asked, yes, a simple internet search will clear up your obvoius ignorance. As even you can see, the highest rate was 94% in 1944 & 1945:

    History of top rates

    • In 1913, the top tax rate was 7% on incomes above $500,000 ($10 million 2007 dollars).
    • During World War I, the top rate rose to 77% and the income threshold to be in this top bracket increased to $1,000,000 ($16 million 2007 dollars).
    • Under Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, top tax rates were reduced in 1921, 1924, 1926, and 1928. Mellon argued that lower rates would spur economic growth. By 1928, the top rate was scaled down to 24% and the income threshold for paying this rate fell to $100,000 ($1 million 2007 dollars).
    • During the Great Depression and World War II, the top income tax rate rose from pre-war levels. In 1939, the top rate was 75% applied to incomes above $5,000,000 ($75 million 2007 dollars). During 1944 and 1945, the top rate was its all-time high at 94% applied to income above $200,000.

Every day, there are new and wonderful revelations about Republican party positions. Women need men we don't even know to "help" us make the "right" decisions about our reproductive health. Women should make less money than men do for the same work. We all need smaller government, except in our bedrooms. We don't need clean air or clean water; we don't need safe work environments. We must remain dependent upon foreign oil because as a nation we are not capable of creating new technologies that would lead to our energy independence. One only needs to be "afraid" of another person to legally use "deadly force". (I'm am more afraid of Republicans every day. Can I shoot them in "self defense"?) We have a Republican seated Supreme Court judge (Scalia) making a decision that could result in the repeal of the Affordable Healthcare Act who makes a joke about not reading the actual document because it has a lot of pages. IT IS HIS BLOODY JOB to be fully informed before making a decision!!! And people think this is all OK!!

Today's big reveal takes the cake - OMG, the Congress has 78 to 81 COMMUNISTS!

The one thing that continually amazes me is that there are people who actually believe this @!$%# is the right direction for the country. No wonder the Republicans continue their attack on public education and higher education. No one with critical thinking skills or knowledge of our history can seriously buy into this stuff. (for real, documented history, not Wikipedia or any other re-interpretation. Try reading the actual documents, easily found on line, NOT on Wikipedia)

The state of Congress today as a result of the Great Fools Vote debacle of 2010. It's going well, don't you think?

No, Ron Paul is not an anarchist. The oldest, truest and most genuine of libertarians are anarchists, or...actually closer to socialists. They advocated that since workers were most responsible for the creation of manufactured goods, the workers should have most of the profits from selling those goods, as opposed to the purely capital investments which supported the enterprise. Keep in mind that libertarianism arose in mid 19th century France and you will have a better undrstanding of the principles they stood for. those libertarians had a lot in common with anarchists.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, is a true believer in the 1930's American brand of libertarianism that grew up as a reaction to Roosevelt's New Deal. This brand of libertarianism hated the worker, and deified the monopolist. This brand was spread through a series of mediocre novels by Any Rand, which have had a following in American Universities for decades , primarily with young males who have little success in finding girl friends.

Ah yes,Never let facts get in the way of a good rant, but if any of You fine folks are the least bit interested in facts, why not, between your ad nauseum, standard radical progressive diatribes, check out and find answers to the following, then, we can actually have a sane rational discussion of the issue, unless of course, You are in fact rabid followers, or, just the useful idiots,(not my term but the term used by the communist for gullible individuals that can be manipulated into doing their bidding) of the Marxist Alinsky, whose concepts Our President actually taught in college and used as a community organizer,(one of which is the use of ridicule against your opponents,"Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. It also infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to Your advantage" from the Marxist Alinsky's book "Rules For Radicals", but I'm sure, You already knew that of course, but in case You didn't,don't take my word for it, read up on it for yourselves, then while You are at it, check out;the origins and history of the communist, socialist, and modern progressive movements, the history of labor unions and their use by those movements, communist influence within the radical elements of the civil rights movement, the origins of the progressive caucus within Our Congress, from communism, through the socialist international period, to the Progressive Democrats of today, check out their website,(You really should, while their numbers are not large, around 80, they are the largest caucus within the Democrats in Congress and have gained effective control of the Democratic Party, as demonstrated when normal Democrats tried to remove Pelosi and Reid after the debacle of 2010 but could not because of the progressives) on their website You will find a list of the names of most of the Progressives in Congress,( Pelosi left the caucus when she became Speaker and had too high a profile but have no doubt she is still a member), You might also wish to check out the names of the Communist, Socialist, Maoist and Radicals within the present administration along with the unelected ,unaccountable radicals that have been put into place as appointed"Czars" by this administration to actually run and control the levers of power within the government. When You have gathered this information, compare the stated goals of all of them, Communist, Socialist, and Progressives, see if there are any differences, then We can discuss rationally whether Congressman West and the millions of other Americans who share his belief are correct or not about there being Communist influence within our Government.

So... should we simply ignore traitorous ex-citizen terrorists in foreign nations, or maybe ask the local government to please arrest them for us, even if there is no extradition, the local government is unstable or hostile? Apparently Alil Sense doesn't realize that we are in a war against a terrorist organization, and that certain civilized niceties like orderly arrests and trials don't apply in a war zone.

Supporting a man who has his feds in swat gear, bullet proof vests, with machine guns.... kicking down the doors of Amish Farmers. Because they dare to sell raw milk. To ACTUAL liberals, mostly.

Not the Feds, that's local state regulations on milk sales that lead to the the "Amish incident". Some states allow raw milk sales - provided certain standards are met - and other states ban raw milk sales completely on health grounds. States do have a right to enforce their laws, and some Amish are known to own guns.

Supporting a man who didn't like superpacs, then he did, now he wants to cut taxes for corporations who donate to superpacs.

Hmm, Romney - wants to cut corporate taxes. Santorum - wants to cut corporate taxes. Gingrich - wants to cut corporate taxes. Ron Paul - wants to eliminate corporate taxes. All of them in favor of "Superpacs", so which of those are you referring to?

Supporting a man who said his feds would not enforce the federal anti marijuana laws against medicinal clinics... And then has them raided by SWAT teams with machine guns.

And if he hadn't enforced drug laws, you'd be complaining that he didn't enforce drug laws... You'd complain either way.

Supporting a man who says that if you have 7 days worth of food in your house, you can be considered a terrorist.

Where did that lunatic notion come from? Oh, yes, from the right-wing rumor mills, taking a statement completely out of context then stretching and altering it into something that makes no sense whatsoever. Congratulations for spreading more lies and rumors.

Supporting a man who refuses to call the troops home, when he could do it anytime he wants to.

It's a lot more complicated than simply saying "come on home". It would be a total waste if an abrupt pullout lead to a return of the terrorist supporters to power, turning a win into a loss. The President isn't that foolish, he is doing an orderly draw-down and maintaining security and stability during the process.

Supporting a man who sent troops into Uganda 5 weeks after huge OIL reserves were discovered there.

And Alil, what liberal would vote for a guy who thinks that the income tax is bad; who wants to take down SS and Medicare, and who wants to dismantle the Department of Education??? No disrespect to Dr. Paul, but the guy is a nut. His policies are more suited for the 19th century; we live in the 21st century.

And who are you to say that we stick to Obama even though he blasts us??? Your candidate said that a person without health insurance who ended up in an accident should be left to die. How sickening is that??? What if that was you??? You stay by Ron Paul even though he rants about how "government is too big" and how the Constitution should be followed by the book, and even when he opposes programs that have helped the poor and middle class significantly, like SS and Medicare??? So Keith Ellison, a Muslim, is a communist. Strange, I cannot think of any religion which has fought with more vigor for the past century against communists than Muslims, Unlike democracy or republicanism (NO, NOT the GOP) which are religiously tolerant, communism represses ALL religion (the opiate of the masses). Christianity, Hinduism and Bhuddism allow Islam an opportunity to compete. Communism outlaws them all.

Rep. West reveals much about his understanding of the world by declaring "Progressive" equivalent to communist. He almost makes McCarthy sound sane.

Toasty, I have to agree with you on this guy (West) not being the brightest cookie in the box. However, I don't think he holds a candle yet to Randy "Duke" Cunningham, former politician, and the only Navy Vietnam War air ace from California. Now there was a guy who said did some dumb things in office! He was also a virulent homophobe. I believe he is still serving a 13 year sentence in a prison in Tucson, AZ for accepting bribes from defense contractors. Let's hope West does not go that far.

Freshieeee! Speaking to a crowd of 8500 people at UC Berkeley, Ron Paul said he would save Medicare by bringing the Troops Home! Win Win!!!!! You know this because I told you, and posted the video. Want it again?
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dtikarhVhg

Now, as to CM6969's complete NONSENSE, allow me to respond:

"alil C Sense blathered: Supporting a man who had Holder issue a legal opinion that The President deciding to asassinate you is now due process. No need for those pesky civil rights! No need to waste time with lawyers and courts!

So... should we simply ignore traitorous ex-citizen terrorists in foreign nations, or maybe ask the local government to please arrest them for us, even if there is no extradition, the local government is unstable or hostile? Apparently Alil Sense doesn't realize that we are in a war against a terrorist organization, and that certain civilized niceties like orderly arrests and trials don't apply in a war zone."

Wrong. The Legal Opinion that Obama had Eric Holder issue specifically states that if The President decides to asassinate you, no matter WHO you are, no matter WHERE you are, you are considered to have recieved "due process under the law". That, coupled with his new powers under the NDAA, means The President can order The Military to snatch you from your bed in the middle of the night. No right to even a phone call. No right to a lawyer or to the courts. RIGHT HERE IN THE US!!!! And now he can even order you killed!!!!!!! Fake Liberals, supporting a man who would do such a thing! Supporting a man who would even WANT that kind of power. Did you want Bush to have that? Romney? Grinch or Santorum? But when Obama does it you all just go along.
That's why I call you FAKE liberals. Posers! Fakes! Blind Party SHEEPLE!

""Supporting a man who has his feds in swat gear, bullet proof vests, with machine guns.... kicking down the doors of Amish Farmers. Because they dare to sell raw milk. To ACTUAL liberals, mostly."

"Not the Feds, that's local state regulations on milk sales that lead to the the "Amish incident". Some states allow raw milk sales - provided certain standards are met - and other states ban raw milk sales completely on health grounds. States do have a right to enforce their laws, and some Amish are known to own guns.""
WRONG AGAIN! The FEDS are raiding the Amish, for breaking FEDERAL regulations issued by a FEDERAL agency, The FDA. They are using FEDERAL AGENTS.
THIS is what you are supporting. Open your Cortex, people! For ALL our sakes!

""Supporting a man who didn't like superpacs, then he did, now he wants to cut taxes for corporations who donate to superpacs."

"Hmm, Romney - wants to cut corporate taxes. Santorum - wants to cut corporate taxes. Gingrich - wants to cut corporate taxes. Ron Paul - wants to eliminate corporate taxes. All of them in favor of "Superpacs", so which of those are you referring to?"
So you argument here is what exactly? Other people said it or did it, so that makes it ok for Obama? Because, you know, that's a pretty weak argument you got there. Let me tell you about the man you are supporting. He was THE FIRST CANDIDATE EVER to not take public money. THAT is what unleasehed this torrent of money in our political system. Obama set it off. He publicly challenged McCain to take public money, which limits your campaign spending. When McCain agreed, and did, Obama "changed his mind". This is who you are supporting, a man who started lying to you before he was even elected. A promise breaker. A deciever and a liar.

""Supporting a man who said his feds would not enforce the federal anti marijuana laws against medicinal clinics... And then has them raided by SWAT teams with machine guns."

        (CONTINUED)

"And if he hadn't enforced drug laws, you'd be complaining that he didn't enforce drug laws... You'd complain either way."
Again, complete and utter Bullsheet. The ultimate Freedom and Liberty starts with being able to control your own body. If you want to drink raw milk, you have that god given right. If you cannot control what you do with your own body, then you are a slave. This is what people don't understand about Ron Pauls stance on abortion. He is against abortion. HOWEVER, He is ALSO against the govt running around regulating womens uterusses.

""Supporting a man who says that if you have 7 days worth of food in your house, you can be considered a terrorist."

"Where did that lunatic notion come from? Oh, yes, from the right-wing rumor mills, taking a statement completely out of context then stretching and altering it into something that makes no sense whatsoever. Congratulations for spreading more lies and rumors."
You are wrong at every front. You haven't been right ONCE in this whole thing you typed up. When Obama signed into law the patriot act twice and the ndaa, it included definitions of who might be considered a terrorist. I'll let Jon Stewart explain it to you, if you really do want to know the truth. There's a great clip of Rand Paul in his speech against the bill remarking on the 7 days of food. Jon Stewart then jokingly refers to a few cans of beans he got on sale!

        http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-december-7-2011/arrested-development---one-way-train-to-gitmo

""Supporting a man who refuses to call the troops home, when he could do it anytime he wants to."

"It's a lot more complicated than simply saying "come on home". It would be a total waste if an abrupt pullout lead to a return of the terrorist supporters to power, turning a win into a loss. The President isn't that foolish, he is doing an orderly draw-down and maintaining security and stability during the process."
Bullsheets. Bring them Home NOW! What are we going to "win"? Why are we building Hospitals, Roads, Bridges and Schools in Afghanistan and Iraq instead of in The United States? Why are we pouring our money and the lives of our youth into ratholes around the globe? Only a FAKE liberal could support that.

""Supporting a man who sent troops into Uganda 5 weeks after huge OIL reserves were discovered there.

1). No "huge oil reserves" found in Uganda.
2). We haven't sent troops to Uganda.
Useful Idiot indeed. How can you so strongly support a man when you have NO IDEA what he is doing?
Let me explain it to you. FIRST, we discover OIL in Uganda. SECOND, a slick video called "KONY 2012" goes viral on the internet. THIRD we send in the troops.
Here, contrary to what you think, we discover the OIL:
        http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/26/world/africa/uganda-welcomes-oil-but-fears-graft-it-attracts.html

By the way..... Kony hasn't even been in Uganda in YEARS.

"Yep, another nonsense right-wing rumor monger..."
You make me laugh. You insist you know all the facts, even going so far as to call me a liar.
Guess what? I don't LIE like you. I don't MAKE THINGS UP like you do.
        And neither does Ron Paul.

Rep Keith Ellison represents the "antithesis of the [founding] principles" because he's a progressive, not because he's a Muslim.

You think that the Founding Fathers weren't "progressive"? LOL. They were the radicals of their day. They denied the authority of the king, created a republic and instituted a written constitution with a strong bill of rights, all under the concept of "all men are created equal." Now, that's progressive thinking!

I think this is an impeachable offense. Do I have a problem with calling people communists? Other than thinking it is a little archaic and silly, no!

I call the other side names all the time. The important difference is that I was not elected by the American people to attack the problems confronting our country. I am not accepting the money of the American people to do this job. Where does Mr. West get the idea that the country is in such good shape that he has the time to not only piss away his own time but to distract everyone else from the concrete problems we face. I think Mr. West should be recalled, not for his absurd allegations but for his total disregard for his job and the REAL problems facing this country. Once Mr West has fixed the economy and dealt with terrorism then he can tell us all about how he equates progressives with communists. But he needs to do it on his own time. He has slapped the entire country in the face by ignoring the real issues facing this country.

Instead of making false claims that he has ZERO proof of maybe he should attend school and better his education.

That's the trouble with the internat; anyone can make false claims and try to get away with them. He may be entitled to his absurd comments but making stupid comments that are NOT fact based is repulsive.

The GOP took a ride down that slippery slope when they instituted their so called southern strategy. Every nutcase in the south now has a national not regional voice to spew their particular anger, hatred, and frustration in public forums. It is sad to see this once great party slide down that hill all because their original ideas were proved to be worthless. Ask yourself this. When was the last time a republican came out with a plan to get this country going again that did not include pulling our pants down to aid the rich. The Tparty is funded by two old rich codgers who made their money the old fashioned way. They inherited it. This clown is how they all think. Their brains must be in their behinds because thats where their heads are.

Very true, breadex. Richard Nixon enabled 40 years of escalating attempts to relitigate the outcome of the Civil War. As the party became increasingly radical even the crazy thinking of the John Birch Society, cofounded by Fred Koch, has become mainstream GOP doctrine.

LMAO @ AKRandy.. Put down the GOP kool-aid.. The GOP = Racists, Women haters and war mongers and are also Anti-American.. But hey, its their policies that define them.. The GOP have a war on women. They want to strip a womans right to choose ANYTHING for herself away. The GOP want to continue their holy war with Islam, something the Christians have been doing since the crusades and longer. The GOP in the case of Santorum want to rule America with Judea-Christian Sharia law.. His words, not mine.. I prefer the Dems stance on America versus the GOP stance on America. one party wants to rebuild THIS nation, the other party wants to rebuild the world in their twisted form of Democracy.. We know who is who and who the real Patriots and Americans are. Hint.. When you move forward in your vehicle what letter is lit up to make it move? Hint, its not a safe practice if you choose Reverse to drive in all the time!! Illegal actually..

EVERY ONE of the congressfolk are Socialists, have been since the early 1930s when America implemented Social Security..

Elect the GOP to lead America starting in 2013 and beyond and a few things will happen. Iran will be invaded by Willard without ANY thought about the ramifications of doing so. Invading Iran will cause gas to double maybe triple within one month. Care to complain when gas is $8-$12/gallon and it'll still be Obamas fault eh? Unemployment will spike again, as more war means less people entering the workforce. More war means higher deficits and less domestic production. Invading Iran will invite China and Russia to protect Iran, then what?? Can America defend its Western shores & Hawaii against a Billion person force that China would throw at us? Russia has 5000+ Nukes. America has about the same. We are worried about Iran gaining a nuke? LMAO

Get a grip Americans. We are $14 TRILLION in debt and should focus on America for once in 235+ years. We shouldn't worry about what Iran, China or any other nation does within its sovereign borders, until we are stable, secure and sane again. America and Americans have been neglected for decades due to the GOPs warmongering course of action. We must allow common sense and reality take hold. The GOP will lead us to be invaded and occupied for the first time in our short existence as a nation. Choose wisely, remember Americas future and freedoms are at stake.

Sandy, Missouri -- Absolutely right. These Right-wing comrades believe in privatizing profit, but socializing debt, as well as redistribution of wealth from the poor to the rich.

Steve Rogers-3917073 -- Excellent Glenn Beck chalk board guilt-by-association analysis.

There is a new PoliSci hypothesis that the more the GOP/TP feel they are losing a debate, the more likely they will start calling Democrats "Commies." Allen West proved this to be true yet again.

And if the Teapublicans want a stark contrast, a clear choice for voters in 2012, Romney should pick either Paul Ryan or Allen West for VP -- Romney is a plutocrat (and who knows what else). Paul Ryan is a "starve the beast" anarchist and religious radical, and Allen West is a wacko conspiracy theorist. These guys definitely sum up what the GOP has become.

Alil, you have none when you support a fake libertarian like Ron Paul.

Real libertarians valued labor, not wealth.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, is a true believer in the 1930's American brand of libertarianism that grew up as a reaction to Roosevelt's New Deal. This brand of libertarianism hated the worker, and deified the monopolist. This brand was spread through a series of mediocre novels by Ayn Rand, which have had a following in American Universities for decades, primarily with young males who have little success in finding girl friends. this brand is basically an apology for the rich taking everything they can from the worker who is creating their wealth.

This is the brand of libertarianism that excuses Mitt Romney for taking over companies that pay a living wage, gutting them and firing the workers. But, then, taking over another company that pays minimum wage and then claiming; "on the whole, I create jobs." A true libertarian would say that is wrong, that the workers in both companies deserve the profits of their labor, not the userers who bought the company from other userers.

You, lil, and Ron Paul, are not liberals, you are just more Romney supporters.

We seriously need to get back to the conversation on "opportunity"... and keep it there. The Allen West character has made an idiotic statement that should have no reaction except to vote him out of office.

It's just as stupid as Romney stating that it's right to support the 1% rich to "keep the American dream alive"... and wrong to support the unfortunate because it encourages them to "sit on the couch".

I'll tell you what encourages "couch sitting".

When "making it" becomes less likely than winning a lottery ticket, people lose their motivation. The gap between the rich and the 99% super majority is wide. It is viewed as an impossible leap for most. It is a disincentive at best and absolute oppression at worst.

Taxing me at 30% while letting the likes of Romney escape with something less than 15% makes me want to go sit on my f*cking couch.

Romney supporting even more tax breaks for the rich makes me want to SLEEP on my couch (after I throw up).

And the Republican "Ryan budget" that takes Romney's views one step further by supporting those tax cuts with cuts from virtually ALL of our support systems? Might as well chug some Jack and slit my wrists... maybe THAT's just the lind of "motivation" they were seeking?

The progressives may look like communists when you're that far right, but from here (near center) the Republicans look like space aliens.

Getting him on the GOP ticket would be a slam dunk for Obama in November, just like Palin turned out to be a boat anchor for them in 2008. People who liked her, really liked here, but the majority of people thought she was totally unqualified, unprofessional, not very bright, and totally scared of the thought of her as President. Alan West looks like he could fill Palin's shoes this time around.

Democracy and communism can co-exist. Marx said that Democracy was the necessary path to it in the communist manifesto. I do believe the Progressive Caucus are the same as the Labour Party. The Labour party in England are democratic socialists. The Progressive Caucus is also very socialistic. True story.

It's unfortunate that getting elected in this country does not require any intelligence. West is a perfect example, and there are many others like him warming seats in Congress. In a democracy electors get the government they deserve. If the voters are ignorant, misinformed and gullible that's what they vote for.

Well, I have read through 236 posts so far, and I will respond to the one I consider the most intelligent, that of Alil Common Sense (#1.90 and #2.28 above). I totally agree with his gripes about Obama. These gripes have been expressed in a remarkable series on the MSNBCTV news commentary program Hardball, hosted by Chris Mathews, called "The Rise of the New Right". I agree with the gripes of the New Right as expressed on this series and recommend all to watch it on the MSNBCTV archives.

However I disagree with Alil in his endorsement of Ron Paul, even though Ron is several cuts above the average party hack congressman. I disagree first of all with Ron's advocacy of the gold standard. The price of gold, like any other commodity, can be manipulated by the big money speculators as was evidenced by the recent pump up to $2,000 an ounce and the dump down to $1,800, a 10% drop in one day. How basing our currency on such a volatile commodity can stabilize our currency is beyond me. Besides, thanks to Ron, we are already (sort of) on a gold standard. The Treasury mints gold coins containing an ounce of gold with a face value of $50. You can buy them from the Treasury for the current price of gold (which assures that they will not be used as currency) plus a small minting fee; Then you can sell them back for the current price of gold. To me, a gold standard would seem to be turning the Treasury into a gold merchant, buying gold with dollars and redeeming dollars with gold, all at the current price on the world gold market. What good this would do is beyond me.

The other problem I have with Ron is his "end the fed" advocacy. I believe the Fed should be nationalized along the lines of Dennis Kucinich's NEED act, which was submitted to congress and promptly thrown in the waste basket of the finance committee. I also encourage all to read this act online (google it). In fact, I think a debate between Ron and Dennis would be much more enlightening than one between a Tweedledee Romney and a Tweedledum Obama.

To get back to the topic of the article under discussion, I do not consider it an insult to be called a Communist, as I have been one for over 60 years. This does not mean that I defend the policies advocated by Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot (or even the American Communist Party, if as one poster claimed, they support Obama), but only that I advocate the Communist principle of "from each according to his abilities and to each according to his needs". How to accomplish this in a peaceful manner will be the topic of a separate post to follow shortly.

The "gripes of the New Right" I mentioned in my previous post were legitimate complaints that were motivated most likely by the outrage over the bank bailouts after the big crash of 2008 and Obama's even bigger bailout after his inauguration the next year. Also Obama put a few right wing groups on the Homeland Security watch list, which caught the attention of the right wing. These legitimate complaints however were submerged by the co-option of the Tea Party by the Koch brothers, who turned the Tea Party into a bought and paid for subsidiary of the Establishment Power Elite controlled Republican Party. Recently, the Occupy Wall Street movement arose voicing similar complaints; but they are in danger of being similarly co-opted by the Establishment Power Elite controlled Democratic Party. To avoid this possibility, I offer the following suggestion.

“The Occupy Movement should occupy the unemployment office. They should encourage everyone without a job to form a line outside their local office. If even a fraction of the unemployed did so, that would create quite an attention getting spectacle. Then they should go down the line and ask everyone to sign a petition to form a Right to Work party, whose one principle would be for the government to guarantee everyone the right to work at a living wage. 50% of Americans earn less than a living wage, which has been determined as $30,000 a year (slightly more for those married with children). Only 40% of Americans vote, and these are almost all from the upper 50%, and of these 10% vote for a third party. Since the Republicans and Democrats have approximately equal voting power, each has about 15% of the electorate. Only 20% of the under paid and jobless would be required to elect a Right to Work candidate to every elected position in the country, giving them the ability to call for a constitutional convention to override any opposition of the corrupt Supreme Court. There is plenty of work that needs doing, but it is not being done because the rich are hoarding the money. The Right to Work party should advocate a progressive surtax on the rich to pay for their wages. There is a lot more they could demand, but that's enough for now.”

I the figurative sense (the way it was meant)... you CAN see Russia from Alaska.

But the point is that she gave a very simple-minded answer to a complex question and then went on to claim that "Putin" would attack Alaska first or at least come over Alaska first to attack the U.S.

Caribou Barbie is a probably a pretty nice woman who should stay out of national affairs given that she doesn't possess the intellect to run a hot dog cart.

I would hazard a guess that many of the 'progressive democrats' are on that list. I actually saw a copy of it that was floating around a couple of years ago. Nearly every state was represented on the list - and every one of them was in Congress as a democrat. It was claimed that the list came from the communist party in the United states itself and that they published their membership list because they were proud of it.

Allen West: intelligent. strong. capable. well-spoken. knowledgeable. experienced.

In addition to the above, the word that first comes to my mind when I think of him is "integrity".

From what I've seen and heard of him so far, I think he'd make a great VP, and maybe president one day.

                              #4.18 - Wed Apr 11, 2012 11:15 PM EDT

He's not intelligent, otherwise he wouldn't claim he has a higher security clearance than the president.

He isn't strong, since he only attacks people who can't defend themselves.

He isn't capable, because he's accomplished NOTHING in his term in congress.

He's not well-spoken, because every time he speaks publicly he gets caught either lying or being an idiot.

He's not experienced, because all he's done is get fired from the military.

And above all, the man has NO INTEGRITY, because he made himself a stain on the honor the uniform the second he abused a prisoner of war.

He'd make an atrocious vice president, because he's a disgusting human being and his lack of any conscience would only spread out into the country around him. Everything this idiot touches gets tainted by his lack of morality and integrity. He's a moron and a disgrace, and he has no business in government whatsoever, much less the vice presidency.

                              Livia, please buy a dictionary.

Allen West: an imbecile, weak, incompetent, incoherent, ignorant, experience all in military intelligence (an oxymoron). Integrity would be defined as the direct opposite of the idiot who claimed he had a higher security clearance than the President of the United States while he served as a mid level manager. Or to paraphrase someone important: "have you no honor."

For his comments on his fellow House members, he deserves immediate censure. Good luck with that VP thing.

Hmmmm, seems the Progresives don't like being called Communists. If you research the history of Progressive, liberal then back to Progressive you will find they are indeed for a Socialist society. Communist, Socialist, all the same failure of ideas. Kind of like the old Soviet Union, no wonder Putin likes Obama. Just like thier slogan "from each according to his ability. To each according to his need." Didn't work so well for them nor has it worked in North Korea etc etc. I think we should salute this courageous man for telling it like it is. After all it was the Democrats who shoved Obamacare down the throats of the American people when it was more than clear that the majority did not want it and thier claims of it cutting the deficit turned out to be the lie we knew it would.

Lie and take all they can from you to give to those that support them. Sure sounds communist to me.

I hear all the time how Democrats lie on this board. How about Republican lies? Well, err, umm, there aren't any!

"from each according to his ability. To each according to his need."

Ahhh, but the Republican credo: from each according to their ignorance, to each according to their ability to contribute to my campaign! That's a winner!

I think we should salute this courageous man for telling it like it is. You know what, this is still America! The people you and he are railing against are still duly elected representatives of American voters. If you truly believe what this man is saying, then you should move to one of the autocratic states in this world. What you are saying is that you don''t believe in the democratic process, that the voters are stupid, and that you should be allowed to choose who the hell is allowed to express the will of the people. You are definitely NOT an American!

MRWSR: When I read posts like yours I despair of any hope for the future of mankind. This is what the Right does best, impune the patriotism of anyone that dares disagree with them. This is a tried and true tactic of the Right and they never cease to wear it out.

Evidently you are either unaware of the McCarthyism era of the late Forties and Fifties or more likely, you are familiar with it and think it's wonderful. That man destroyed countless lives of truly great Americans, actors, authors and anyone who was capable of thinking for himself. It took the efforts of the greatest broadcase journalist of the 20th Century, Edward R. Murrow to do a devasting piece of coverage on him which finally buried him. That and a great deal of courage exhibited by Kirk Douglas, who hired screenwriters and actors who had been Blacklisted by McCarthy.

I live in a small town in Connecticut. One of our most celebrated citizens was the late, great author and playright, Arthur Miller. He wrote a play called "The Crucible" about this dark period in American history. If you had any brains, which you so clearly don't, you'd read it and educate yourself. Sadly, I'm sure you much prefer remaining an ignorant fool.

God help this country from the imbeciles that claim to love her.

The congressional progressive caucus is not for capitalism or free markets. Wealth re-distributuion, government sole solution to fix all. This has nothing to do with McCarthyism. That is the only crap you can stand on, because you know the view of the caucus is a marxist view (commuinist).

MRWSR, the tried-and-true graduated income tax system that we've had for decades is the only "wealth distribution" that progressives are trying to preserve. The Republicans are trying to reverse that and will be screwing those who stand to suffer the most, and seem to least understand it.

Progressives don't believe that government is the solution to fix all, but it CAN be the solution for some things, while Republicans treat our government like it's an enemy. Since we are a government-of-the-people, that makes them enemies of the people. In any other time, they would be called anti-American, or anarchists.

If Republicans want a country where power and money trump the rule of government, they should try living in Somalia.

MRWSR - So if you are so confident that these democrats are Marxists(Communists), then does this mean that you agree that there is class warfare going between the rich and the poor? Because Marxism and socialism came from the Victorian era class warfare that not only created a communisitic approach to the problem but also created the unions in the west. They are two different views or solutions to the same problem.

Of the course the fascists from the right will say that anything that is liberal is communistic, but that is false, it is a lie they are perpetuating at the behest of Rove to convince their base that there is some kind of socialistic attack occurring in the US.

BOO! The evil liberal socialists are going to get you and steal all of your money. OOOOOOOOOH. Talk about being brainwashed.

Patton was a great tactician and a driven general. He was also just slightly right of Genghis Khan. In fact he was so far right that had he not been indispensable at that point in the war, Eisenhower would have fired him. So I take it you are a faithful follower of "brother John Birch"?

By the way, you keep bringing up things being a different time. I find this curious. I know this is going to be difficult but try to follow this...there is no "communist problem". It was a straw man then and a straw man now...in fact, perpetuated by the same people...imagine that. Its even funded by the Koch brothers. You know, the family that funded the John Birch Society?

With the total disregard shown by this administration for our Constitution and even the President saying the Constitution is an impediment to what he wanted and promised to do. I think this is a whole different ball game. Then again a lot of those Mc Carethy went after were card carring Communists. Perhaps they just slid back into the woodwork to await a messiah to lead them!

Take the blinders off once in a while.

Sorry Tony...perhaps YOU should take off the blinders! I saw the Youtube video. He states that what Bush did was "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic". There's a big difference between someone doing something that you consider unpatriotic and calling someone unpatriotic! But then you're Republicans...you're still fighting the Cold War.

I mean, the people you are railing against are duly elected by the voters, who are you to say they do not have the right? And by saying they do not have the right, are you not denying the Constitution and denying the American people their right as decreed by the Constitution to elect their own leaders?

Ahhh, but no, you know better! You should be allowed to choose who represents the people in spite of whomever they might have elected because you know better! Is that not complete and total denial of the principles our country was founded on?

I mean what are you saying? That somehow an idiot that manages to get elected is somehow protected from having his idiotic comments pointed out? What does that have to do with the Constitution? Are you saying he deserves more respect despite being an idiot? What principles are being violated? What are people supposed to take comments like yours for except knee jerk responses to try and justify something right wing and anti-progressive. Probably a waste of time to point this out to you. If you could see it, you already would have. Go calculate your brain wattage deficit.

If anything, McCarthy was even more discredited after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Rep Wilson was known in the Army for making it up as he went along. His connection to verifiable factual information is tenuous at best.

So, all this talk of trying to "court" the moderate or independent voter is unnecessary? Guess neither party wants or needs their vote. Hmmmm. Interesting.

Feisty, perhaps you can show me where exactly I'm the judge and jury. As far as self importance ,I believe you hold that crown. Our Budget Puts Americans Back to Work
                                            • Our budget attacks America’s persistently high unemployment levels with more than $2.9 trillion in additional job-creating investments. This plan utilizes every tool at the government’s disposal to get our economy moving again, including:
                                            • Direct hire programs that create a School Improvement Corps, a Park Improvement Corps, and a Student Jobs Corps, among others.
                                            • Targeted tax incentives that spur clean energy, manufacturing, and cutting-edge technological investments in the private sector.
                                            • Widespread domestic investments including an infrastructure bank, a $556 billion surface transportation bill, and approximately $2.1 trillion in widespread domestic investment.

                                            Our Budget Exhibits Fiscal Discipline
                                            • The Budget for All achieves $6.8 trillion in deficit reduction, hits the same debt to GDP ratio as the Republican budget, and has lower deficits in the last five years, but does so in a responsible way that does not devastate what Americans want preserved.
                                            • We achieve these notable benchmarks by focusing on the true drivers of our deficit – unsustainable tax policies, the wars overseas, and policies that helped cause the recent recession – rather than putting the middle class’s social safety net on the chopping block.

Our Budget Creates a Fairer America
                                            • Ends tax cuts for the top 2% of Americans on schedule at year’s end
                                            • Extends tax relief for middle class households and the vast majority of Americans
                                            • Creates new tax brackets for millionaires and billionaires
                                            • Eliminates the tax code’s preferential treatment of capital gains and dividends
                                            • Abolishes corporate welfare for oil, gas, and coal companies
                                            • Eliminates loopholes that allow businesses to dodge their true tax liability
                                            • Calls for the adoption of the “Buffett Rule”
                                            • Creates a publicly funded federal election system that gets corporate money out of politics for good

This is part of there proposed budget, if you read it and like it, then you have a very communists view. Where does the money come from, more regulations, more government empowerment.

So what part is communist, is it the ending of tax cuts (remember it was republicans in charge when they passed these, they did not have to have the sunset but it was outcry from real fiscal conservatives that were concerned about the future budget at that time).

Or how about the extending tax relief for middle class household (why is cutting taxes for people making 50k communism but not cutting taxes for someone making $1 million.

maybe its the creating of new tax brackets, i guess that makes everyone a communist because tax brackets have been adjusted through history.

now the fun, abolishes corporate welfare for oil, gas, and coal. Seriously, this is the closet thing the socialism or communism you have stated, not the ending of the corporate welfare but actual welfare itself. So your all for tax money going to corporation for no reason but against it going to actual people for actual reasons.

Eliminating loopholes, interestingly enough Ryans plan does the same thing only he doesn't say witch loopholes, my guess is it wont be any because in only take one congressman to stop it and they are almost all beholden to the interests of Grover Norquist. So my guess is that when it actually comes time to close loopholes there will be none.

Ah the buffet rule, it wouldn't be needed if the tax rates were what people actually paid, but since guys like romney can pay 14 percent in taxes by sheltering there income but since they will always find someway to hide money its a necessary evil. We shouldn't need a special tax to get millionaires and billionaires to pay there taxes but we do.

and finally publicly funded elections, i'm not sure what this has to do with communism but then again neither did anything else you stated, my guess is that you don't actually know anything about communism, i'm not saying its a good thing, i don't think it is, but it is a thing, it has a definition, and you might want to consider reading up on these things before you go claiming that people are or are not communists.

And lastly, screw go piss up a flagpole, seriously, im sure you think you know a lot of "things" about a lot of "things" but one thing you don't know, is anything about me or my life, enough to call me a communist because i have a different political ideology then you. Especially considering the things you think make people a communist.

                                            Wow,

Touch your communist nerve there. Its how they get the money to pay for this and what they cut and who grows in the mix. It is a government building project, you want to believe its not, fine. It is and if you like move to where it has never worked. Then come back and tell Congressman West your sorry.

Sounds to me like MRWSR wants to cut our military down to zero. I mean, that is the most communist force our country has!

Sorry to dissapoint but never mentioned cutting the military. Not sure what is not making sense, i was just going off the question marks as to how the progressive caucus would finance thier budget. Thats all.

It IS kinda funny that the republicans are ardent supporters of the most socialist work program in government: the military.

Congressman West probably estimated on the low side. As a former military officer he would be inclined to err on the side of caution.

The real problem is the right wing has NO clue what communist means. Here's a clue it's nothing like what the congressman or you think it is.

By the definition of the right every country in the Europe is communist and half of the countries in South America since most of them have goverment health coverage and goverment support of business.

                                            See how stupid that sounds?

But Congress does... (or at least did in '63)

                                            Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record -- Appendix, pp. A34-A35 (January 10, 1963)

Current Communist Goals, EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (Thursday, January 10, 19763)

[Excerpt From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen]

                                            1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

                                            2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

                                            3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

                                            4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

                                            5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

                                            6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

                                            7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

                                            8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

                                            9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

                                            10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

                                            11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

                                            12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

                                            13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

                                            14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

                                            15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

                                            16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

                                            17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

                                            18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

                                            19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

                                            20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.

                                            21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

                                            22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."

                                            23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

                                            24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

                                            25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

                                            26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

                                            27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch."

                                            28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

                                            29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

                                            30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

                                            31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

                                            32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

                                            33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

                                            34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

                                            35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

                                            36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

                                            37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

                                            38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

                                            39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

                                            40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

                                            41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

                                            42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.

                                            43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

                                            44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

                                            45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

In case you didn't notice, it's 2012, not 1963. Red baiting is kind of out of date. And Red baiters like the "Hon." A. S. Herlong, Jr. from that era also claimed desegregation and civil rights for blacks were part of the vast International Communist Conspiracy. Since the Hon. congressman was from Florida, he was certainly a segregationist. He wouldn't have approved of someone of Alan West's race being allowed to stay in a Florida motel, let alone being allowed to sit in Congress.

                                            SS,

I've been around a while now and you know that, and I'm far from a right-wing nutcase, which most around here know....

I responded to the statement that rightwingers do not know what a communist nutcase is, So since I knew that I would be lumped in with the rightwingers because I do not tow the party line I felt that it should be pointed out that there are still millions of Americans out there in the world who DO know what Communists are and what they stand for.

Just because what they are and what they stand for is very similar to what the ultra liberal democrats are and stand for today, is not my problem, the vitriol used to argue otherwise is the absolute proof anyone needs to the validity of the point.

                                            Have a nice day.

Egilman - how strange anyone would lump liberals with communists. It's truly just a ploy to "scare" the uneducated. The age question to Toasty? How condescending!

Guess first. And if you could, explain how any of those 45 things has been done, and of those how they have hurt the country in any measurable way.

Tell you what, I have this strange obsessive compulsion to reply to bulleted or numbered posts, so I'll do it for you:

                                            1. Never happened.

                                            2. Never happened.

                                            3. Never happened.

                                            4. The basis of capitalism... Not communism. Also, never happened.

                                            5. Never happened.

                                            6. America doesn't let children starve just because our old folks don't like people of other skin colors.

                                            7. Common sense.

                                            8. Never happened.

                                            9. Never happened. In fact, we refused to sign the test ban treaty altogether.

                                            10. Because that's what the U.N. is for.

                                            11. Never happened.

                                            12. Because we live in a liberal democracy founded upon political freedoms.

                                            13. Never happened.

                                            14. Never happened.

                                            15.Never happened.

                                            16. A tactic more usually used by the religious right.

                                            17. Never happened.

                                            18. Never happened.

                                            19. Never happened. Particularly paranoid.

                                            20. Never happened. Even MORE paranoid...

                                            21. Never happened.

                                            22. "Get off my lawn you kids!"

                                            23. Never happened. That one was just plain weird, too.

                                            24. This is a far-right tactic, not far-left.

                                            25. AKA the First Amendment, 1789.

                                            26. Because it is. Medical fact.

                                            27. Never happened.

                                            28. It does.

                                            29. Never happened.

                                            30. Never happened.

                                            31. Never happened. In fact, quite the opposite.

                                            32. Like public schools and fire departments.

                                            33. Never happened, because we already live ina free country.

                                            34. Good.

                                            35. Never happened.

                                            36. Never happened.

                                            37. Never happened... Also, not very communist.

                                            38. Never happened.

                                            39. Never happened.

                                            40. Never happened.

                                            41. Never happened. In fact, quite the opposite.

                                            42. Never happened. The far-right on the other hand...

                                            43. An odd accusation coming from any patriotic American.

                                            44. It's the law.

                                            45. Tin foil hat disintegrated at this point.

Okay, so I guess I should have predicted you'd rather change the subject... You know, I don't know why I still keep giving people the benefit of the doubt these days. It consistently disappoints me on a regular basis.

I didn't change the subject, who changed the subject?

I thought the subject was communist subversion of America?

I offered proof in the form of someone who was actually trained and practiced it.

So to you, hard incontrovertible proof disappoints you?

Unless you think your opinion of each point on the list above is proof....

Lemme see some links. And before you go there I am aware that the old Soviet Union no longer exists, but the political philosophy is still alive and well...

Just because the old line soviet has finally rejected totalitarian socialism, doesn't mean there are not other people around the world including in the USA that would like to give it a try.....

It is almost like there are two religious cults here. The left have their particular god as does the right. No talking facts or common sense to either side. They are so locked into their views, blinders firmly in place, they will never ever consider anything but their own talking points. Was it Voltaire that said there was no one more dangerous than a religious fanatic? Maybe it could be said about all these folks and their political beliefs!

No I'm not asking you to prove negatives, I'm asking you to prove that the democrat party is not a bunch of liberal socialists, and before you come up with the usual that most do not know what a socialist is, I do.

So offer me positive proof that democrats are not socialists. I'll even accept the usual liberal democrat websites if you care...

Egilman, nice try, but please go take a college class in Social Theory or some kind of Sociology. Stop embarrassing yourself in public. You do not even understand the structure of the USSR or its history, and obviously do not know the difference between a dictatorship of the Proletariat, (or what Proletariat means), and a writer of the eighteen hundreds hypothesizing a Utopian economic system. Just for starters, you do not know one ism from another, already proved in your own statements (old line soviet has finally rejected totalitarian socialism)?????. So who the heck needs a link for that not even defined rubbish which is provably wrong even with an attempt to define it? Obviously, neither you nor this evidently and demonstrably "elected by dummies pretender paper pusher" knows what you are talking about. He has no business there, being an incompetent, and should be removed from the office immediately based on his own recently proved demonstration of being unqualified to serve the post. This is an embarrassment to the people he is supposed to represent before the world.

Why is there not more vetting of people who run for office? Do they get on a ticket because of the money or they look good? What about their ability to actually understand and manage their post and the decisions that require an informed, wise and fair leader who deals with the real quality of life of The People they are well paid by them... to be representing? This is not playing house. It is a big responsibility, a real "office" of a civil servant of The People doing The People's business and speaking For The People.

So what the heck was this old forty five from the fifties repeat of a broken record? It sure was not speaking for or representing anything other than the personal wrongheaded belief system of himself on the People's time and dime, which by any simple definition of performance on the job in 2012 is not okay.

My first post was a response to a claim that the right wing hasen't a clue what communist means, My response was that the congress does or at least did in '63, where is that an accusation?

Sorry can't resist--have to reply to some of this S***. Don't waste anymore time replying to Egilman. That's the trouble with the internet, a few minutes in person with this nut would smoke him out--probably paranoid schizo or something, or maybe like that guy that always sits in the first row in class asking off the wall questions and thinks that all the rest of the people in class are with him when in fact they would strangle him if they could.

                                            Mike,

Your welcome to come spend a few minutes with me anytime,

I just love it when people who can't or won't get involved in a serious discussion, or want to control the discussion to their favorable points and limit the responses to their talking points, like to call names when they cannot get their way.

Typical childish behavior that's all to common what is called political discourse today.

And just so you don't feel like you have any sense of knowing who I am, I was the bored student in the back of the class waiting for class to get out. I got so bored that I went and took the graduation tests two years early and passed with some of the highest grades attainable. I graduated two years ahead of my class, and had my first degree in three years.

Made and blew off my first million before I was 24.

I've been comfortably retired since '93.

So take your sense of moral superiority and stick it...

I can easily prove that socialist and democrat are two different things. They are spelled differently. When you look them up in the dictionary there are two different definitions. Socialist = socialist Democrat = democrat It's really very easy for anyone who can read.

Ya, you guys are right...there is no such thing as communist in our govt.

                                              Egilman

Really...Not a Far Right Wing Nut Case? OK... so we all going to communistic hell. Thanks McCarthy. How OLD are you? Considering you like to ask others that question quite inappropriately. Neither Communism nor Capitalism work in their pure form.

Just look how we let Capitalism take the reign over the last several decades. Corporations decimate our economy by taking advantage of incentives to ship jobs overseas or to reduce their costs caused by regulations that are mostly meant to prevent abuse. Instead our wonderful corporations ship the jobs overseas so they can abuse the workers there. You gotta love Wall Street for putting so much pressure on corporations to have short term growth. This causes questionable and immoral acts from our corporate leaders.

Pure communism also leads to corrupt government and power abuse. But for someone to claim that there is some master plan in the U.S. and the World to abandon markets is a laughable conspiracy theory that only a irrational person would suggest.

We need a "free: market to the extent that companies can compete but on a level playing field without the total freedom to abuse people, work conditions or the environment. You simply cannot depend on the Free market to govern themselves as they chase after the almighty profit and margins that Wall Street fully expects each quarter to survive.

I am tired of the unethical practices and drive for short-term profit over loig-term growth with ethics and Honor.

This RED baiting is really getting old an it always comes out from the Right Wingers when they have their backs against the wall. Funny thing is the Right WANTS to control everybody's life but in a different more sickening way. They do not believe in Heath Care for the Needy, they do not believe in contraception, yet do not allow women the right to decide about their own bodies. Seems to contraception would decrease the number of un-wanted children. Most un-wanted children become costs to society. Funny also how they claim that only God should decide life or death so they push Right to Life but are the fastest ones to believe in Capitol Punishment or to incarcerate people with drug habits instead of treatment programs. That is because the "Free" market makes profit off of prisoners. Ultimately, society pays more. The hypocrisy on the Right is astounding and quite sad.

A measure of a society is not how rich they are but how they treat their less fortunate in society. I am not suggesting free lunches for life but an ability for our society to help lift people up. For those that cannot be lifted then society needs to take care of them. Societal moral obligations are necessary to define a viable culture.

Yes, but the article is about West and the supposed communists. I assumed (which may be incorrect) that John was referring to West.

Besides, "I think Obama got more votes" is in no way an answer to his question. Even if he was referring to the supposed communists, that answer would not be appropriate. Therefore, your response is non-sense, and I called you out for it.

Its the disrespect that the GOP is increasingly using that will be their downfall. Respect still matters and lack of it is turning off women, Independents and minorities. Keep it up GOP, youre on the fast track to defeat come November.

I agree with you, it is not evident in you post what your political leanings are, this is why I responded. The two replies you received above mine are politically slanted although they do agree with you

You must be referring to my post in this statement. Please tell me in what way my post is the least bit politically slanted?

This jerk of a congressman is all about sending raw red meat to the political fringes instead of actually providing any details or proof. The Hard Right wingers and those with little regard for the truth hopelessly eat it up. How sad.

Senator Joe McCarthy has risen from the dead and rides again. Let's drag all Democrats befor the House unAmerican Activities hearings. This guy is more dilusional than even the average Republican. Hell he's almost more dilusional than Bush.
