CHRISTIE: “A new report says New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) ‘exaggerated when he declared that unforeseen costs to the state were forcing him to cancel the new train tunnel planned to relieve congested routes across the Hudson River,’” the New York Times reports,” per Political Wire. "Christie also misstated New Jersey's share of the costs: he said the state would pay 70 percent of the project; the report found that New Jersey was paying 14.4 percent."
The New Jersey Jewish Standard wraps Christie’s trip to Israel.
JINDAL: “According to a WWL report, despite endorsements from Republican heavy hitters like Sen. John McCain, some political analysts say the 40-year-old governor isn't ready politically to step out onto the national stage. A perfect example, according to one political analyst, was Jindal's rebuttal to the president's State of the Union address in 2009,” a local TV station writes.
MARTINEZ: New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez gave this powerful reason to the Albuquerque Journal as to why she won’t be running as vice president: "The family has to be a consideration, and for me to take [my sister] to Washington would be to separate her from … the family that's down there, and that would be devastating," Martinez said. "I just couldn’t do it."
GOP12’s Heinze writes: “[T]hat's 10 times tougher to overcome than ‘I wouldn't do it because of my family,’ which is a tough one on its own. You're not just turning down family because of your ambition; you're turning down care for those who need it the most. It's hard to imagine anything more ironclad or binding than this denial.”
PORTMAN: Major Garrett is calling it for Rob Portman. He writes of the downsides: “Portman's a bore, and their ticket would be boredom squared, or squares squared; he offers nothing to women voters or Latino voters; he carries the taint of Bush-Cheney policies; and he's not conservative enough for the Tea Party… But Romney has the same perceived ‘flaws’ and he's going to win the nomination. Portman can't fix Romney's flaws. Neither can anyone else. That means all other things being equal, Romney will look for someone he knows and trusts; who has delivered for him; who can put a vital swing state in play; who can immediately help him tackle the hardest issues if he's elected; and whose selection tells the country Romney's first big decision as a nominee wasn't a gasket-blowing gamble or one festooned with the garish and outmoded trappings of regional or ideological balance.”
RUBIO: He talks to the Miami Herald about his “Dream Act.” He said, in part, “When we weren’t talking about a plan, people were criticizing me for not having one. And now that we have a plan, people are criticizing that we’re doing it in an election year.”
GOP12’s Heinze points out: “Something tells me that he wouldn't have been promoting the plan late last year when possible running-mate Mitt Romney was bashing Rick Perry over the head with the DREAM Act (albeit the Texas version, but a DREAM Act, nonetheless). It's odd, isn't it, how all this has timed perfectly with Romney effectively clinching the nomination.”
RYAN: The Washington Examiner’s Conn Carroll writes: “Give Obama what he wants: Pick Ryan.” “Romney could not find a person better prepared to articulate these contrasting visions. No other possible candidate has spent more time challenging Obama face-to-face than Paul Ryan,” Carroll writes.

Come on FR call it like it is, Christie lied he didn't exaggerate he out right lied, a known trait of the tea people Koch republicans. He would be a good fit for VP for Romney, they could try to out lie each other. America needs to know when these tea people Koch republican lie, we don't need it sugar coated we need a lie to be called what it is "a lie".
@MO you are naive if you think all politicians don't stretch the truth. Both sides pander to the voter. Call it flip flopping, lying or changing their minds once they are in office but bottom line it is what politicians do to get your vote.
Mo your President said he would have a transparent form of Govt. He lied.
He said if he did not get this turned around in three years he was done. Another lie. He said the cost of his health care was X and he lied. He is the biggest untruth teller of them all so say what you will but the truth is he lied and he failed. He lies about anything and everything. He has no plan except the tired old dogma of the democratic party of increase taxes. This man lies to the American people. To the supreme court and anyone who is forced to listen to him. He tries to intimidate people but anyone knows he is all bull and no horns.
Now Mo, this includes Obama too, right? If so, then wouldn't you also refer to the President as a liar?
If Christie is involved or threatens to show up you can bet a buffet is involved
I think Christie is always aggressive because he does not want people challenging him on all of his $hit. Romney should choose this fool, this would make great entertainment for the Fall.
Please Mr. Romney, choose Paul Ryan. The ads almost write themselves: picture Romney and Ryan in gold plated Cadilacs pushing a poor, disabled, veteran, pregnant woman over a cliff.
What more could the Democratic party hope for ?
It takes a very astute person nowadays to decipher each politician's rhetoric while somewhere along the way; we try to find the actual truth. The question now becomes; which lie is the truth? Lying is today's norm while the truth is somewhere near the middle of the out side. I just hope that we can all still detect the differences between hyperbole, fact and/or fiction. If not; Americans may wake up someday soon to discover that Daffy Duck is the new president with Rocky the Squirrel as his veep and Porky Pig as Speaker of the House!
Republicans need a candidate to compensate for Romney's weaknesses, and they need one a year ago.
Come on Etch a Sketch Willard, please pick Eddie Munster Ryan as your VP pick, It will be fun, trust me!
Everyone is pushing the U.S. to strike at Iran. Christie and Romney are saying they are fully behind any decision Netanyahu wants.Netanyahu is pushing to make this into a battle of "your either for us or against us", which Christie is just reinforcing with his visit to Israel.
But if we go to war with Iran, it will not end in a week,or even a few months - we will be looking at another Iraq - a years long slug fest. And Iran will still be able to import the materials to start again when it's over.
And in the end - it will be our soldiers who will lose, it will be the Israeli people who will lose ,it will be the people of Iran who will lose. None of the politicians will suffer.
Let's get our soldiers out of Afghanistan first, before we start beating the war drums for Iran.If Romney wants us to go to war with Iran, let his sons step up to the front line first.
I think Israel is capable of defending their own country. They have a strong military. If they want to bomb Iran, do it, but be prepared to be scrutinizedby the UN. The US will assist if needed, but Israelis should always be Israel's first defenders.
The US military needs a rest and going to Israel to fight Iran is not the answer for our military. This generation of military have seen long wars and they cannot afford to be deployed again, not at this time.
Saddam Hussein thought he could invade Iran, capture Abadan and get the quick border adjustment that he wanted. What happened was an 8 year long war with over a million casualties.
The one sure thing about wars - they never go as you think they will - easy to get in -hard as hell to get out.
I think we are discovering that right now in Afghanistan.
You start making noises about going to war and pretty soon, you are on a path you can't diverge from.....we are fast nearing that point with Iran.
Texas - I do think we need to stand by Israel. She is our staunchest ally in that region. I do think we need to use force with Iran if need be.
But our Iranian policy is shrinking to such a hard line that military action will be our only option. If this is politically driven, then I expect we will be in Iran before the November election.(and Iran leadership so wants us to strike - it gives them a new target to point their people's anger toward, instead of the potential Arab Spring that could come to Iran if we do not strike)
To have our military sent to another war for political reasons is not in anyone's best interests except the politicians advocating for war. It makes them look tough and creates a need for a military solution.
As you say - our military is tired. Our nation is tired of war. Our allies are tired of war. And reinstating the draft will only reinvigorate our battlecry for a short while -enough to get us into a bad situation, but not enough to get us out. Let's get our soldiers out of Afghanistan first.
Aaaawlllllll Aboarrrrrd! The great ship Romtanic is looking for mates and crew to depart on a tragically ill-fated journey into political obscurity. Qualifications: must never look forward, should hate sunshine and must have the ability to project an air of supreme obliviousness even as the smokestacks go under water. Successful candidates may enjoy a return engagement in 2016, but not if they're lucky.
Hey, "R's"; have you snapped up your ticket?
Just in... Breaking news... Santorum suspends campaign, probably due to family. Further developments as situation warrants.
Yep, the R's want another War in the Middle East. I recommend that all five of the Romney boys join at once to lead the way to war. Let all of the Republican young men and women storm the Recruiting Stations. The Republicans want to fight another war, and this time it will be the sons and daughters of Republican voters who will do the fighting and the dying. It will be Republican families who suffer with the sons and daughters who come home with missing limbs and long-term PTSD disability.
The Republicans always want to fight wars, but the Republicans only want to send the sons and daughters of Democratic working families to fight, so that they can reap the plunder from their investments on Wall Street!
Ah, Ray - I think a vast number of the enlisted come from rural areas that are Republican,so I think those boys and girls over there fighting are from both sides of the aisle.
Now are they from the 1% or are they from the lower 2/3rds of the middle class? I think it's the middle class that is represented more in the services than any other.
The fact is, it is less than 1% who have carried the whole burden and they and we, as a country are tired of war. (and we civilians didn't even suffer -either by a war tax or inconvenience -just the soldiers)
But you are right -if Romney wants to sound the war drums so loudly that we end up in another conflict -let his boys step up first. I would rather we bring our soldiers home and actually put our money into helping them than getting into another loooonng conflict even our military is saying we don't need to engage in.
