Subscribe to RSSAccording to a spokesman at the Texas Republican Party, a member of the Texas GOP’s executive committee drafted an email to call an emergency meeting to revisit its delegate-allocation rules.
And make no mistake: This effort is coming from Santorum world.
Santorum, in fact, commented on this subject yesterday while campaigning in Pennsylvania.
“After Pennsylvania, the calendar in May looks very, very interesting -- a lot of strong conservative states who are looking for the opportunity to tighten this race back up. There's talk now of maybe making the state of Texas, 154 [sic] delegates, a winner-take-all state. We would like that. That would be a good thing.”
And today on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports," Santorum spokeswoman Alice Stewart added, “Keep an eye on Texas, that’s going to be critical in terms of how the votes play out there, whether it’s winner-take-all or proportional. Texas will be critical in the primary election and everyone needs to pay attention to that."
Right now, Texas is set to award its 155 delegates -- on May 29 -- proportionally. But making it winner-take-all could help Santorum narrow Romney’s delegate lead, if Santorum remains in the race (and more importantly, if he remains competitive).
Per the Texas GOP’s bylaws, you need 15 members of the executive committee to call such an emergency meeting.
And it takes a two-thirds vote at that meeting to propose a rule change -- that would later be sent to the Republican National Committee.
But a Republican official says the RNC is "unlikely" to grant Texas a waiver to change its rules.
"If they succeed in changing the rules in Texas, then they have to come to [the RNC] for a waiver, and it is unlikely to happen."

Check carefully ~ Karl Rove and Tom Delay are probably neck deep in this move, along with Tea Party head butler Dick Armey. Has anyone noticed that Sen. John Cornyn has become as silent as a tomb while all this GOP circus is playing? The Texas senator was once trying to get attention and hoping for a VP slot. When the candidates for prez are so sorry that members of the party run from being associated with them, it says a lot about their overall quality ~ and character ~ and electability.
OK so Texas Republicans want to change the rules again - their last Bush League President was elected by republican SCOTUS both terms leaving America out of loop. And here they go again! Suggestion, All Texas Women vote for Obama or write in "non of the above" but do not vote republican - the rest of America if you want to keep your voting franchise DO NOT VOTE REPUBLICAN.

Just another way to disenfranchise the large metropolitan areas like Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston and San Antonio. I fail to understand why Republicans just cannot follow the rules!!! Texas has the most corrupt state government in the United States. None of this surprises me. Everyone from the HOLIER THAN THOU JESUS puke Perry, to Cornyn, Gramm and the rest of the scum surprises me at all. Texas, although it has thousands of decent, law-abiding, non-hating human beings, has been taken over by filthy, bottom-sucking pigs like Perry. I feel sorry for the DECENT people of Texas.

THE COUNTRY of TEXAS
Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from
the Union . (Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848)
We Texans love y'all, but we'll probably have to take action if Obama wins
the next election. Here is what can happen:
1: Texas secedes from the Union.
2: George W. Bush will be the President of the Republic of Texas . You might
not think that he talks too pretty, but we haven't had another terrorist
attack, and the economy was fine until the effects of the Democrats lowering
the qualifications for home loans came home to roost.
So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?
1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas . We will control the space
industry.
2. We refine over 85 % of the gasoline in the United States..
3. Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it. The term "Don't mess with Texas
," will take on a whole new meaning.
4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for
the next 300 years. What will the other states do? Gee, we don't know. Why
not ask Obama?
5.. Natural Gas - again we have all we need and it's too bad about those
Northern States. John Kerry and Al Gore will have to figure out a way to
keep them warm....
6. Computer Industry - we lead the nation in producing compute chips and
communications equipment -small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell
Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD,
Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Miconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Nortel,
Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
7. Medical Care - We have the research centers for cancer research, the best
burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large
health centers. The Houston Medical Center alone employees over 65,000
people.
8. We have enough colleges to keep us getting smarter: University of Texas,
Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Rice, SMU, University of Dallas ,
University of Houston , Baylor, UNT ( University of North Texas ), Texas
Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.
9. We have an intelligent and energetic work force, and it isn't restricted
by a bunch of unions. Here in Texas, it's a Right to Work State and,
therefore, it's every man and woman for themselves. We just go out and get
the job done. And if we don't like the way one company operates, we get a
job somewhere else.
10. We have essential control of the paper, plastics, and insurance
industries, etc.
11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard, the
Texas Air National Guard, and several military bases. We don't have an Army,
but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we
can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets
bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send
over the Texas Rangers.
12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types
of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let's not forget seafood from the Gulf.
Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good.
Don't need any food.
13. Three of the ten largest cities in the United States, and twenty-three
of the 100 largest cities in the United States, are located in Texas. And,
Texas also has more land than California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut,
Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island and Vermont
combined.
14. Trade: Three of the ten largest ports in the United States are located
in Texas .
15. We also manufacture cars down here, but we don't need to. You see,
nothing rusts in Texas, so our vehicles stay beautiful and run well for
decades, well most of the time.
This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in
good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have.
Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama:
Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President
Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The rest of the
United States will have to walk or ride bikes.
You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite
communications.
You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has
predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as you survive
the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.

Really it wasn't until the '90s that Texas really shifted over to the Republican side overall, but the start did begin in the late '80s (or, if you count Bill Clements getting elected Governor, it would start in the late '70s, I guess, but since Clements was often the lone Republican in real power and was replaced by Democrats both times as Governor, it's hard to say whether his election was really the start of the Republican takeover of Texas). There would be the occassional Republican elected statewide (John Tower to the Senate in the '60s, for example), but Democrats had a stranglehold on almost all of the power positions until relatively recently.
And really, it wasn't until this past election that the Republican takeover of Texas was completed (for now, of course. Things change).

I will counter with this fact - Vermont was independent for 13 years - having lived in Texas and observed in their schools the map of the USA Texicans use - damned near died laughing at the "teacher" - Texas was distorted to about 10 times proportional size while the entire New England States region was the size of tick on a longhorns ass. Besides all the previous points about Texas taking in less in Federal taxes than it receives, would newly re-independent and sovereign Texans want a foreign military presence on their soil and waterways? Good-bye to the USCG, the Army, Navy, and Air Force, both Active and Reserve. Good-bye, also, to the Veterans Administration facilities and PXs and BXs that have served Texan veterans. Good-bye, also, Federal financial aid that has been a major income stream to Texan post-secondary schools. Good-bye, also, to USOE grants to elementary and secondary schools, as well as USDA support of school lunch and breakfast programs and more than a few Texan farmers and ranchers. Good-bye. also to NIH and HHS support to Texan medical facilities, but Texans have already started that by costing themselves Medicaid monies.
Oh, yeah: NASA may become TASA, but it would be a 100% Texan-funded enterprise. And tax-breaks to oil companies?

Ask yourself who has your best interest at heart without selling out the people, America, and what she stand for.
We as Americans, first and foremost, should understand that we are the Land of the Free.
