Romney: 'I'm going to win Pennsylvania in November'

HARRISBURG, PA -- Dropping by his state campaign headquarters here Thursday morning, Mitt Romney said he expected former Sen. Rick Santorum would win his home state's primary later this month, but that he would carry the Keystone state in November's general election.

"I think everybody expects someone to win his home state. Newt Gingrich won his home state; I won mine. I think people expect [the] senator to win his home state," Romney told reporters between phone calls to supporters as part of a phone-bank effort.

"But I hope to pick up a lot of delegates, and we have several of the states in the contest on the same day. I would like to win all of those, and if I could win the others and pick up some delegates here, it would give me an even stronger lead."

Later, delivering remarks on the roof of the headquarters building, Romney predicted he would win Pennsylvania in a fall match-up against President Obama.

"I need your help, you guys. As you know I want to win Pennsylvania in November. I'm going to win Pennsylvania in November. And the reason that's going to happen, by the way, is that the people of Pennsylvania have taken a good look at conservative leadership," he said, then mentioning the state's two best known Republican leaders, neither of whom has yet formally endorsed. "They've seen your Sen. Pat Toomey. They've seen your governor. They've seen he conservative leaders are the people who will help grow the middle class."

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stopped by his Pennsylvania headquarters today where he told supporters he will win the state in November's general election, but Romney lowered expectations for this month's primary campaign against the state's former senator Rick Santorum saying "people expect the senator to win his home state." Video edited by NBC's Matt Loffman

Romney also set the stage for a fall campaign here that would focus in no small part on energy policy -- a major issue here. Pennsylvania is in the midst of a sometimes-controversial gas-drilling boom, and is the leading petroleum-refining state in the northeast. The world's fist commercial oil well was drilled in Titusville, and the state's cultural and historical links to the coal industry are well-documented.

"This is a president who, I don't think he likes energy terribly much, or at least some of the energy," Romney said of President Obama. "He said the other day he was for all of the above. I think he was referring to all of the things that are above the ground. I mean, he likes the wind and the solar, but he doesn't like the stuff that's under the ground like coal and oil and natural gas. I like those sources of energy. I like what's above the ground and below the ground. And if I'm president, I will have not only all of the above, but all of the below."

The Obama camp issued this response: "Under President Obama, we have increased our domestic production of oil to an eight-year high and decreased our dependence on foreign oil to a 16-year low while doubling the production of renewables."

While campaigning in Pennsylvania, the former Massachusetts governor also continued to level accusations that President Obama -- not Mitt Romney -- is the one out of touch with the American people and out of his economic depth. Romney (who spent four years at Harvard earning a combined JD/MBA) called Obama a "nice guy" who "spent too much time at Harvard perhaps, or maybe just not enough time actually working in the real world."

"I'm afraid he's been in this bubble in Washington D.C., surrounded by people who love everything that comes out of his mouth, and he hasn't had the chance to see what's happening in America," Romney said.

Perhaps showing the effects of a long last week of campaigning here and in Wisconsin, Romney at one point struggled to remember the date of Pennsylvania's primary, laughing about the effects of too much time on the road.

"I want you to get out and do everything possible to get me the support I need on April 24th -- is that, what day is April 24th? Is that a Tuesday? It's not this coming Tuesday, it's the one after that. Or is it the one after that? It's the one after that." Romney said, laughing "Sometimes when you're on the road every day, you're not quite sure even what day it is, but today's Thursday, right?  Yeah. So I need you to get out, and to get your friends to vote, to give me their support because we're going to take back America."

I'm going to win Pennsylvania in November.

Bwhahahaha!

Another bold faced lie from the pathological liar!

Has anyone on his campaign team shared with Willard the recent polling trends in PA?

He is down by double digits!

By the time November rolls around, Willard will be lucky to win his home state, which ever one that may be!

Concern,

The latest USA Today/Gallup poll of 12 swing states shows Mitt Romney losing support among independent voters. Romney has dropped 10 points among independents since the fall, while President Obama is up by nearly the same amount. Independent women in particular prefer Obama to Romney by a wide margin.

Well, I don't know about "all of the above," Mitt, but you've certainly got "all of the below" covered.

And here's a hint for you, Mitt. He plans to break the contract.

Have we passed the deadline for filing candidates here yet? Because I'm pretty sure my 10-year-old nephew could give a more coherent speech than that on energy and the environment.

"They've seen your Sen. Pat Toomey. They've seen your governor"

Yeah, we've seen our governor bend over backwards the last two years to avoid imposing any kind of extraction fee (don't call it a tax!) on the companies making billions of dollars off of destroying our countryside and poisoning our water in the Marcellus Shale drilling area, even as our own Republican legislature urged him to do so.

"I'm afraid he's been in this bubble in Washington D.C., surrounded by people who love everything that comes out of his mouth"

I'll bet that'll come as a big surprise to the Republican Congress.....

Actually Feisty your quoting poll numbers over a month or two old. The facts are Santorum's lead has narrowed to single digets and is only 6% ahead of Romney. Quinnipiac Poll taken Apr 3rd its a 41 - 35 percent among likely voters.

Santorum's not going to win Pennsylvania. He got creamed in his senate race here and most people remember why they voted him out in the first place. If I was Romney I'd remind the remaining voters through ads why they voted him out.

He will certainly not win Philly and he will probably not win Harrisburg & Central PA. Without those two areas he ain't going to win.

Mittens had better not count his chickens in the Keystone state before they've hatched.

He doesn't appeal to coal miners, farmers, women, teachers, dog lovers, minorities, union members, or the middle class.

Mittens really doesn't fit in anywhere but Wall Street. He won't win New York either.

        phine -

Then-candidate Barack Obama got a lot of undeserved flack for saying this in 2008:

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small
towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's
replaced them," Obama said. "And they fell through the Clinton Administration,
and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that
somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to
people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment
as a way to explain their frustrations."

I've lived my whole life in Pennsylvania. My father came from Williamsport, where many of my relatives still live today. I spent four years in college in Bloomsburg, my best friend lived in both Harrisburg and Allentown for a number of years, my brother once lived in York, and I've visited more of these small towns over the years than I can count. And I still think it was one of the most perceptive statements I've ever heard in politics. When read in its entirety, it shows a lot more understanding and empathy for these people than the few words that people chose to take out of context.

They're good people. Over the last several decades, they've seen the lives their parents and grandparents built slowly crumbling away like the town of Centralia crumbled to the coal fire that's been burning there for the last 50 years. They've seen their young people - even back in my father's day - leave for the brighter futures to be found in the cities and suburbs. And they very understandably cling to the things that sustained them in the past as they try to cope with an uncertain future. That's not an indictment, but it does explain a lot.

Phine---across the north of the state and in the central areas are a lot of conservative folks---smaller towns, agricultural areas, dying manufacturing. Fewer African-Americans in that part of the state than in Pittsburgh or Philadelphia.

JoAnne is right--they've had a lot of job losses and their young people have had to move away to find jobs.

Romney took a list of his own weaknesses and systematically blamed Obama for each of his own flaws. He is trying to lower the competition by obfuscating his flaws for public consumption. How about the Obama wants to destroy Medicare one, or Obama is attacking women's health care?

Romney is the biggest liar to ever run for the office, as all other candidates in 2008 and 2012 have pointed out his lies against them. The issues about his lack of integrity and Etch-A-Sketch "convictions" demonstrate that Wall Street is selling another toxic asset, hoping to reap huge profits from tax cuts, deregulation, military spending, and any other favors Romney bestows on his 1% colleagues.

Mitt seems a bit over confident for November. If he can't win the state in the primary what makes him think that the people of the great state of Pennsylvania will all of a sudden be willing to vote for him in November?

Romney - the Liberal and Democrats' favorite GOP candidate:
        1) It has been said that Romney is the fiscal conservative. If he really wants the voter's confidence in success, why not be transparent about his assets?
        2) In his Etch-A-Sketch speech, he will reset the way he will campaign, which means he could drop all conservative values once he is nominated. This makes sense since he has no qualms in putting false ads against other candidates. A liberal has no problem to have no ethics or moral discussing his opponents. Look at Obama.
        3) In Romney's claim about Santorum's support of Romney at one time. Sure, Santorum gave Romney his support, but Romney performed his Etch-A-Sketch move to prove that Romney is liberal, and not conservative.
        4) One day Gingrich went to talk to Romney about Gingrich supporting Romney because Gingrich wanted to unify the party. After talking to Romney, Gingrich went back on the campaign. Again, Gingrich found out that Romney was liberal, just as Santorum found out.
        5) If Romney is leading and everyone is saying Romney will win, why keep spending 10X's more than the others and waste money on massive ads and tons of robocalls with lies and mudslinging?
        6) People keep saying Santorum will enforce his Catholic values on people, but Romney is the bishop in the Mormon community. Do you really think Romney will not try to instill his religious values on America?
        7) Romney has said he supports RomneyCare, but he will repeal ObamaCare. If ObamaCare is based on RomneyCare, why would he do that? Because he will not, another Etch-A-Sketch.
        8) Romney keeps getting support from all the GOP Establishment of RINOs in the party. The same group who will not fight for a balanced budget, no tax and paying down the debt.
        9) The same RINO group that supports Romney passed NDAA along with Obama, to allow Obama to arrest and execute anyone without trial of someone Obama deems a threat.
        10) The same RINO group who supports Romney passed ObamaCare without fighting for review of all the material. So, far in initiating ObamaCare it has cost billions. And, it is estimated in the end, it will cost a minimum of 82 Trillion without financial support.
        11) The same RINO group who supports Romney who will not fight for working on the illegal immigrant issue. Most legal immigrants do not want illegals, don't trust the media.
        12) The same RINO group who let Obama put troops in Egypt without approval of the Senate. Now, other Middle Eastern countries that are going under the same pressure by the radical Muslims.
        13) The same RINO group who supports Romney and let Obama leave Netanyahu sitting in a lobby and will not talk to Netanyahu if he can. Obama also wants to remove aid to Israel. Obama just purposely spoiled an Israel invasion in Iran to remove the nuclear weapons. Obama is blatantly Anti-Semitist.
        14) The same RINO group who supports Romney because they support Obama, they want to keep doing status quo with Romney, who would become Obama II.
        15) Romney has no real plan to fix the economy, ask him for a specific plan, and no "pie in the sky" theoretical, generalized plan.
        16) Romney, if he wanted to be a leader, would quit with the ads that are not telling the truth. He should want to unify the group, not polarize it.
This list could keep going on, but that sums up the major issues for most voters. Please reconsider voting for Romney. Please get everyone to vote, the turnout has not very low. To win over Obama, we need all the people in the polls voting. Vote for any GOP but Romney.

You mention Romney is a Bishop. I believe you are misinformed. About imposing his religion on the country, you are kidding right? He might impose his values on the country but not his religion. What! A President with morals? One that doesn't smoke or drink or is addicted to internet porn? How could we ever get along with a president like that!!! It's about time we had a President with morals. I know you will find something to attack Romney on to try and prove me wrong... go for it.

One more thing George, Don't pretend to be conservative. The only thing you are attempting to do is divide the vote. Romney is the best equipped to beat Obama.

When Clown Romney proclaimed the other day he would increase the military at the expense of medicare and wage war against Iran and North Korea he of course did not mention that he never served in the military not have his five sons, which instead went to Harvard. He is such a filthy politician with no conscience to send American Boys to die, as long as they are not his boys.

Did Obama serve in the military? If you make a case explain why you are making it. Let's see now... Did Obama serve in the military? Hmmmm, nope. Is Obama sending boys to their deaths? Hmmmmm, Yup.

The closer Romney gets, the angrier the liberals become. Who do you think is running Obama's campaign? Yes, let us all vote straight democrat as TR demands. Really? Your comment made me laugh out loud!

We must remove the Muslim from the White House.

Apparently they think that putting hearts and butterflies on the new stamp will make most people not realize that the rest is Arabic and probably not something we want to support.

New Stamp - the second one!!!

USPS New 44-Cent Stamp Celebrates a Muslim holiday.

If there is only ONE thing you forward today... let it be this!

President Obama has directed the United States Postal Service to REMEMBER and HONOR the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a new commemorative 44-Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp.

REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post office.
All you have to say is
"No thank you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my letters!" The Flag of the USA has always been my favorite.

Barry’s mother Ann Dunham split from his father after he deserted them and Barack SR. not measuring up. Ms. Dunham later remarried another Muslim Lolo Soetoro and he moved the family to his home in Indonesia. In Dreams of My Father, Obama stated that during his time in Indonesia, his mother raised him to be contemptuous of American and Americans. Barry could only dream of his father, since he abandoned Barrack at an early age. Maybe Barack dreamed if his life would be different if he had a father. He would have grown up with less rage and insecurity. The answers for many questions will never be fulfilled. Why had his father abandoned him?

The Muslim teachings and indoctrination would stay with Obama forever and be critical in his quest for power and glory. It was now clear the path needed for revenge. He must at all cost avenge his birthright and complete the jihad against the “Great and Little Satan” (US and Israel). The dreams of Barrack, his father and father’s father once carried to fruition became our socialist progressive nightmare on Elm Street. This dream of Barack was most dangerous during his waking hours. As President, Barack and his progressive minions worked around the clock to implement his dastardly agenda. The country wished it could awake from his four year nightmare, but it was too late! May God save Israel and US! With Obama, the gifts from Allah keep on giving.

Obama’s Muslim school notes on Jihad against America:

                          1. Force your enemy into financial oblivion with major budget deficits

                          2. Create a multi generational group totally dependent on the Government.

This Group known as the “Takers” will blindly support your Progressive Agenda. They are “easy” when buying their votes.

                          3. Encourage open borders between the US and Mexico. Accuse any one against this as racist. A country without borders cannot survive.

                          4. Form a separate civilian defense force as large and well funded as the US Military. This is needed for any successful coup. You cannot trust the military leaders, particularly in the United States to turn against its citizens. One day this will become the Obama Civil Defense Force (OCDF) The first members of this force will be union thugs, Islamic New Black Panthers and American Muslims.

                          5. Remove all weapons and ammo from the public. Then they will lack the means to resist and they must submit to Allah.

                          6. Islam says a Muslim can lie or verbally mislead the Infidels. Say or do anything that will give you the advantage. Obama has mastered the art of deception to a point that he cannot distinguish between the truth and his lies. He says he is a Christian only to deceive the electorate. The Progressives hang on and believe his every utterance.

Nazzarite why does it matter if Obama is a muslim and if Rommney becomes president I will be moving. I'm physically male but have been diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. The ENTIRE republican party is so hostile to alternative life styles that I won't really have a choice it will be either stay true to who I am, or move out of this country. Socially the republicans are living in the 1950s. And Nazarite we need sensible gun control laws your smoking something if you believe that right wing nonsense. Religion should stay out of politics but if we have stamps commemorating Jewish and Christian holidays why not one commorating a muslim holiday?
