Presidential candidate Mitt Romney went on the attack, accusing President Obama for hiding his real agenda. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
WASHINGTON -- With last night's hat trick of decisive primary state wins behind him, a victorious Mitt Romney launched Wednesday into his general election attack against President Obama, whom he accused of "hide and seek" politics that obscure his true agenda for a second term.
Casting Obama as both unfocused and partisan on economic issues, Romney questioned his Democratic rival's "candor" and painted the fall campaign as a referendum on his policies.
Referencing the moment last week when Obama was overheard suggesting to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would have more “flexibility" in nuclear negotiations during a second term, Romney said the incident reveals that the president "does not want to share his real plans before the election, either with the public or with the press."
"By 'flexibility,' he means that 'what the American public doesn't know won't hurt him.'" he told a conference of newspaper editors in Washington DC. "He is intent on hiding. You and I will have to do the seeking."
Romney, who has taken on the mantle of presumptive nominee despite the persistence of Rick Santorum's dwindling campaign, also said the president's strategy to resolve the nation's ballooning entitlement costs amounts only to finger-pointing.
"This election will be about principle. Freedom and opportunity will be on the ballot," the former Massachusetts governor said. "I am offering a real choice and a new beginning. I am running for president because I have the experience and the vision to get us out of this mess."
Obama, who spoke in the same venue yesterday, used his remarks for a blistering broadside against the Republican agenda, mentioning Romney by name for the first time this cycle.
Labeling as "social Darwinism" the budget measures championed by Rep. Paul Ryan and embraced by Romney, Obama said Republicans have "proposed a budget so far to the right it makes the Contract with America look like the New Deal."
Romney said Wednesday that Obama has greatly exaggerated the impact of the Ryan plan.
"President Obama came here yesterday and railed against arguments no one is making – and criticized policies no one is proposing," he said. "It’s one of his favorite strategies – setting up straw men to distract from his record."
Romney, who received muted applause from the audience of journalists, also disputed Obama's assertion that the vaunted GOP icon Ronald Reagan would be unable to succeed in today's GOP contest.
The Republican presidential frontrunner’s remarks to the group came in a hotel ballroom across the street from the venue where Romney announced the end of his 2008 run at an annual conference of conservatives four years ago.

In early November Sketchy will hiding in that Caddy elevator in his house. He won't even have a dog for a friend. I want to know why Sketchy hides out at the fox studio during this campaign.
Obama can't hide his record high , credit down grading , Greece like debt and deficit very we .... "LOL"
The credit rating was downgraded due to the "Super-Committee's" inadequacies to find a compromise. This isn't exactly ancient history, how do people mess this up?
"This election will be about principle. Freedom and opportunity will be on the ballot," the former Massachusetts governor said.
Well, we know that President Obama has principles and our freedom and opportunities would be almost boundless if the republicans didn't control the House.
But all of us are waiting to know what principles (if any) you have Mr. Romney.
Again with the downgrade bull@!$%# - read em & weep!
Bold added for emphasis.
Romney just says what he thinks at the moment. He doesn't really think things through. He has no principle so he blurts out anything he likes. He is unfortunately Etch a Sketch person. He will say anything because he doesn't have a strong principle. It will be shown during the election season that Romney doesn't have any positions that he had consistently for 10 years.
I was thinking Romney acts like a speed freak when he does that nonstop psychobabble about "OBAMA. I guess his "gate keepers"cant keep him on a short leash ! He goes from one disaster to another .Still can't seal the deal anywhere!
And now whats up with him and Ryan ? Ryan created the whole financial meltdown ,and tries to take social security and medicare away from the seniors . And is now trying to use the money stripped from seniors and the middle class to keep the crusades going !
Obama has not slowed our debt or deficit down ....
Go to .... Live Debt Clock ....
He can't even slow it down ....
Total debt per family is now at $690,771 , and climbing ....
Debt per citizen is $182,713 , which includes infants ....
Lovely ....
- Ruken uses Logic on Bigbenalaska!
- It's not very effective...
Asked and answered.
Romney's too funny (or not): HE gets accused of being the Etch-A-Sketch guy, so HE has to come up with a catchy phrase of his own for Obama- "Hide-And-Seek...". What a dork.
Oh, and on the previous thread, I was reminded that I've often wondered who, exactly, 'Damage 123' is. It finally came to me- He's the kid who's wormy-ass all the other kids would kick up one side of the street and down the other every day on the way home from school. It seems to have left him very, ery angry though. I fully expect to see his wormy-assed picture on the news one of these days for shooting up a post office or something.
Just my 2 cents, of course....
That's rich, Romney accuses President Obama of playing "hide and seek" politics when no one has a clue where Romney's real policies and politics are hiding.
Exactly Drive By, Etch A Sketch is the original. It was handed to us by one of his own people. Hide and seek is just not catchy, but then Mitt never has been that clever, has he? All we have to remember in November is, "Who cares?" That would be President Obama.
"Romney said the incident reveals that the president "does not want to share his real plans before the election, either with the public or with the press."
Isn't Romney the one that just last week said he couldn't tell the people what he was going to do because then he would lose?
For me it really doesn't matter !!!
Neither one of them can hide from the truth !!! Both candidates have not yet come to understand that WE the voters can see through their spins, lye's and other assorted bull crap. If there were a real third party candidate , Mittens & O bozo would be in for the shock of their lives . Down side is we must choose between the lessor of the two evils. Some day maybe they will learn that we are smarter and better educated than they think . Until then we are doomed.
bob
President Obama is a liar. Either that or he is not very bright. But he has the less informed Americans rooting for him. Heaven help America. Let's start "fact checking" both President Obama and Mr. Romney.
JH, that statement is completely uncalled for and ridiculous in the light of all of Mitt's double talk. The less informed citizens watch fixed news, which you are most likely tuned into right now for your daily dose of RWNJ propaganda for suckers.

Obama has not slowed our debt or deficit down ....
Go to .... Live Debt Clock ....
No one with any ouch of integrity would go to a Cato/Heritage/ Koch bros fuzzy math website. If you put aside your paranoia, you might try a *gasp* government website.
I don't suppose you know the Koch brothers are anti-government plutocrats; not to mention scions of the founder of the John Birch Society. Really, the Koch brothers should be investigated for treason!!!
say, JH...
given those statements, please tell all of us your opinion of the previous Administration.
just wonderin'...
We need to thank oil companies with all our hearts ....
For doing their part in helping to get Obama booted out ....
Send them all your lovin in thanks ....
Obama out in 2012 ....
What's the matter Wayne, you don't want Obama's facts checked? Your assertion that less informed Americans watch "fixed news" is about as credible as some of our lying Presidents statements. I suppose the informed people are watching that horses ass, lying, Mr. Ed? Did you see his edited 911 tape of the Trayvon killing. NBC is having a tough time trying to spin that one.
stupid - I'd bet Bush could beat Obama this time. Just look at the employment records and the tax revenues from the last administration and tell me we are doing better with this bunch of clowns.
Republicans. Pee their own pants and blame Democrats for drinking too much water.
*Buzzzzz*
Wrong again - don't just take Wayne's word for it;
Plenty more where those came from... ;o)
Righteous Feisty!
As for you JH, you must have just stepped off of the playground after filching some little girl's lunch money before tuning into fox, the name calling bully's network.
Does Mitt Romney have any morals? How can people believe a single thing he says when he spouts off at Obama? He has to make things up in order to have something to say about the President. I would have more respect for the man if he would just say something that is true instead of this smear campaign he has going. When President Obama says something about Romney, at least he says the truth. I can respect that.
Farleigh Dickinson = Liberal college in New Jersey - whoopie
LA Times = Liberal rag in California - whoopie
Go ahead Nasty, give me more.
Wayne, I'm going out to the playground real soon. I won't miss you. Just wait until we start checking the President's facts. He's toast.
There you have it folks!
JH has eloquently demonstrated how the twisted mind of a neocon works...
Can't counter FACTS - attack the source...
What's the matter baby? Why NO mention of the librul rag 'Forbes'? lmfao@U
Romney the guy who only gets 48% from his own party?
Less in some states.
Farleigh Dickinson University.....really? Well hell, I'm nothing if not downright impressed! THE Farleigh Dickinson University.....imagine that!
LOL! JH, Are you calling me out little man?
fiesty dumb fux - Forbes just ran the story. Do you understand that? They didn't do the report. It was done by some liberal arts collage professor.
Wayne, no I wasn't calling you out. I didn't think you wanted to go out to the playground but you're welcome to if you can get out of your chair all by yourself.
Sandy - It's called the primaries, 48% is pretty good in the primaries. President Obama is counting on you.
Time to go
Wayne,
No wonder they earned the distinguished title of; NewsForDumbFux!
JH=troll
Can't really state true facts so spews bile and lies and either hope it sticks or nobody argues with him. What a pile of crock.
Have you noticed nobody is pushing Bush out on the campaign trail to speak for them? yeah, he endorsed Romney WAY into the election... like ALL of Romney's endorsements, it was half-hearted. Kind of like, well, I guess he IS going to be the candidate so guess I need to get on the wagon. VERY few have given Romney a rousing endorsement other than the Koch Bros.
I had to laugh when he mentioned "principal". Romney will say and do anything to get elected. Hell, he has been running for 6 years. We "owe" it to him don't we??? He has flipped on just about every subject you can think about. The only reason he is getting the nod is because the rest of the candidates were just so laughable.
Funny JH, I never heard of a collage professor. We used to do collages in art class sometimes. I loved the chair remark. You truly don't have the correct mental image of me, that's for sure. Have a great holiday.
Finally: I was wondering when Obama will be exposed. Keep it simple, focus on his competence and record.
Agreed Feisty, they make up news and twist the truth until it can't be recognizable to an intelligent person. It's designed for the audience described in your avatar.
Your problem anemone, is that you and your party are runnin a campaign against a president with no scandals and no blunders the size of "W's." Keep looking though, we are all entertained by witch hunts like "the Donald" ran.
Not believing something because of its "liberal" source is sort of ironic when you're perfectly fine believing whatever spin Fox tells you. Is this not the least bit funny to you? News is not supposed to be faith based, rather, fact based.
The scary thing about the Ryan "Plan" that Romney seems to like is the remaking of the Eldery social safety net. They keep going on about how current and near seniors "won't be affected". What about those of us that are 40? or people that are 30 or 20? I don't want to have to move in with my kids when I'm old and feeble. I want SS and MC there for me too!
TAG - You're It (Mitt's hiding on the top of the car, in the air tight container).
The sheeple continue to distort President Obamas record. The GOP wanted all that ills America fixed on day one of his administration, all-the-while knowing they wouldn't budge in trying to fix what took close to 100 years to break. The President is a figure head of sorts and nothing more. He can't write policy, only state what he wants. He can't show up on Capitol Hill and help mold the bills. He nor Congress can lower gas prices. Drilling here, drilling now, won't have any positive effect for a minimum of 10 years and likely 20 before the oil hits the market. They have to drill test wells, build the platforms and then move it.
I recall President Bush having a budget surplus when he took office and what happened? He sent "rebate" checks out to America, instead of investing that money here at home, rebuilding Americas infrastructures, bridges, power grids, etc.. Bush started 3 wars on false premises and lies, yet its Obamas fault were in Afghanistan and Iraq still. The GOP want troops in the Middle-East for their impending war with Iran, if for some reason Willard Mittens Romney is elected. Willard Newton Santorum all want war with Iran, can America afford what would come next?
A war with Iran would double if not triple gas prices almost over-night. The flow of oil would be cut off by Iran, then we would have to deal with China and Russia, both of whom support Iran and get a lot of oil from them. The cost of the next war may be the highest of all. Where would the GOP get the money to pay for the next one? Cut everything else and funnel it all towards defense? We can't afford the GOP in 2012 if America expects to ever recover and prosper again. Time to rebuild America first, let the world deal with Iran. There is a reason why NATO and the UN exists. America should stop being the worlds police and go to country.. We are $14 TRILLION in debt, no thanx to ALL politicians, not just Obama. You can't cure overnight what took decades to break.
We need common sense goals. Taking care of the world shouldn't be one of Americas highest priorities anymore. We have millions who are homeless, unemployed and under-employed. We need to take care of our own people for once. We need to rebuild America. We need to afford all Americans with equal opportunities and equal rights. Not chosen rights through legislation favoring religions or political ideals. A man is equal to a woman and a woman is equal to a man. If you choose who you want to be with, that is YOUR choice. Not a politicians choice. Not a religious choice. We need to make politicians have term limits, other than the President.
Go to politifact.com or factcheck.org. They check on everyone, including Obama and Romney. Never accept single data points that mean nothing out of context.
Nice, Fiesty. Damn those pinko hippy commies at Forbes. Teabaggers - the only bipedal species on the planet without the common sense not to sit and roll in their own feces. I guess the white sheets and hoods make it difficult to see where you've pooped. Poor little JH can't imagine that an entertainment network that would pay the likes of Geraldo Rivera, Karl Rove, Oliver North, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich would ever fill his little head with lies.
Princess Mittsy is actually accusing someone ELSE of "hide and seek" politics (since he's been prostituting himself to the teabaggers, I guess he has to keep his metaphors simple). Let's play a little "hide and seek" with Mittsy....hmmm....where should we start? How about the Cayman Islands...
Perhaps Mittsy would like to fully disclose some names and dollar amounts supporting "his" superPAC. That would be some fascinating information....
I see the Obama lap dogs are out in full force today. You liberals are so full of Obama love you can't see any wrong with him. Obama is not perfect, Romney is not perfect, politics as usual.
Does anyone know which Mitt was speaking today? Was it the liberal Mitt, the moderate Mitt, the conservative Mitt, or the sererely conservative Mitt. Anyway by the time you find out Etch a Sketch will just shake to reset.
Feisty Red(gives good) Head,
You need to get a job babby doll. Ur food stamps and free rent are gonna be running out come Jan 1st! Talk later Sweetiehoneybabydoll.
frank-1216711: There is an old saying, stay off the hallucinogen and maybe you can focus a bit. Obama is trying to scare you by telling you that every white man is Romney.
jdmbo3. Any lapdog of Mitt's should prepare itself to ride on the roof of the car in an air-tight container.
The irony of course is the Romney is a big fat liar! That's the Republican playbook, swiftboat your opponent and repeatedly accuse him of doing exactly what you do... in this case "hide and seek politics" is his attempt to swiftboat the President. Sad, very sad Romney.
Anon. No need to tell me what you are on. I agree with Nancy Reagan: Just say No!
I am only comparing two men vying for POTUS.
Great entertainment, reading the comments just makes me "LMAO" people seems to feel insecure, can't hide from the truth, America knows how we got here and how every dirty trick was used to put Our country in a deeper hole by the GOP, hiking of the gas prices by their buddies to sabotage our economy in an attempt to make Obama look bad, come Election day America will speak with their votes, the hardship that was caused by the Republicans in their attempt to seize power will not go un-punished ..... OBAMA 2012
Outstanding, Frank! I was going to post a quasi-intelligent comment, but with your post, NUFF SAID! ;-)
Anemone, that is an odd remark you made. I am a white man who is truly offended by being stamped Romney-like because of my gender and race. We only need fear Mittens if gets elected and pushes through that rich man's rag that Paul Ryan wrote.
Frank, that is very, very funny!
This accusation coming from Etch-a-Sketch? The most egregious "hide and seek" has got to be Paul Ryan's / Romney's budget plans.
1) We don't know what would be cut further from discretionary spending in order to get it down from 12% of GDP to 3% (yes, 3%!).
2) We don't know what "loopholes" would be closed to increase the tax base. (If any, because I trust these jagoffs as far as I could throw them.)
3) We don't know if the tax rate cuts would be made in conjunction with closing tax loopholes, or in what ratio -- Would the increased tax base really cover the additional tax cuts, or better yet, be more than the tax rate cuts to reduce the deficit?
What we do know (basic math) is that in Ryan's plan the rich (those earning 250K and above) will be given more tax cuts, and the poor and middle class would have to pay more taxes. We know all the savings would come from privatizing Medicare, but that savings is negated by an increase in defense spending (that isn't necessary -- unless they are planning to start more wars). So ultimately is doesn't balance the budget.
In Romney's plan, all trust fund/entitlement programs would have to be completely ended in order to balance the budget -- Because these far-right radicals refuse to raise revenue via a fair tax code. The most recent GOP/TP version has only two tax brackets, I believe 10% and 25% -- OMG, really?
And it's no wonder when you listen to a douche-bag like Paul Ryan speak, and all that comes out of his pie hole is a string of bumper sticker rhetoric with no substance. The man has been brainwashed and needs treatment ASAP. Worse is Romney who adopts other people's stupid ideas like Paul Ryan's because he is an empty suit who is only smart enough to know he is rich and would get more tax breaks.
Come on people. Do you really want a POTUS who pays only 14% tax rate, and keeps his money off-shore in the Cayman Islands and Swiss Bank accounts -- Seriously?
True Patriot, you know how to sum it all up into a neat package like nobody else. Thanks!
Thanks Feisty for that hint of a link. I did manage to find the poll and find it hilarious that you left out the fact that MSNBC viewers rated 2nd worst (although that doesn't surprise me). http://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2011/11/21/fox-news-viewers-uninformed-npr-listeners-not-poll-suggests/
The fact that this "poll" was conducted on 600 New Jersey residents only says alot about how narrow they had to make the field to get the results they wanted.
So, put the 2 together of people who REFUSE to watch only 1 view or the other, and you get people like you and the ones you are describing. I never watch Fox News, but I do read foxnews.com, msnbc.com, cnn.com, wall street journal, and several others. The truth is easy to see once you read all sides....and obviously you fall into this part of the poll findings you graciously brought to my attention:
So where is the article on MSNBC where Obama is getting bitch slapped by the federal judge demanding Holder and Justice Department publish a 3 page letter in single space stating the Executive Branch's position on the Judicial Branch's right to strike down laws deemed unconstitutional?
Even the most liberal among you has to cringe at this Obama gaff, actually sending a veiled threat to the Supreme Court. The nerve of this Chicago thug. And he says he taught Constitutional Law at Harvard. Harvard must be so proud.
Nice attempt to be relevant MSDNC.
Wayne-1656909-- Romney was going to go with "button, button, who's got the button," but his handlers gave him "hide and seek" doing the best they could. "Marvelous" for the "severe" candidate!
The old "national security is our strength" don't hunt no more after the neocon Iraq fiasco, and especially when Romney opens his mouth and tries to talk about foreign policy (BTW, his advisers are Dubya people--just great). So Romney quickly ties to pivot to the swiftboat "strategery," but that is a day late and a dollar short -- everyone already knows Romney lies so much he lies even when he doesn't have to.
It is so bad, even Karl Rove knows this turd won't blossom. Here comes the $$$ and the negative ads--hang on for the ride folks!
Obama accuses Romney of being "dumber than a box of rocks!"...and rightfully so! I see not much has changed during my "hiatus" from Newsvine...still the same old delusional, illiterate, right wing/Teabagger morons posting lies and demagogue to satisfy their greedy, misinformed peers! Watcha gonna do when Obama-mania rains down on YOU in November...Brother!!! Obama 2012.
Hmmm... if I was trying to 'hide' something, why would I have provided the link?
Again, contorting yourself into a human pretzle doesn't change the results...
Please, don't flatter yourself, it's embarrassing to watch...
You obviously have no CLUE what you are talking about - you have NO idea where I get my news from and for you to claim otherwise is disengenuous at best!
Oh, and, here is something more current for you to chew on;
So Governor Etch-a-sketch is trying to accuse someone else of being vague and inconclusive...
Why anyone would listen to this corporate raider is a mystery. Maybe he should go hide somewhere and seek the truth himself because every time he opens his mouth nothing but lies come out. Romney like so many other Republicans has convinced himself that if he repeats the same lies again and again they will magically become the truth. The guy is a serial liar and not worthy of the presidency.
The "link" you provided:
The actual link http://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2011/11/21/fox-news-viewers-uninformed-npr-listeners-not-poll-suggests/
600 people from New Jersey do not represent everyone in the US. This poll pointing out that both msnbc and fox news listeners rated the lowest 2 informed of everyone just seems to indicate that party affiliation doesn't matter in NJ, they're all misinformed.
Yet you try and apply a poll on people who ONLY watch Fox News to people who are replying to an article on msnbc.com - all the while leaving out the parts where msnbc viewers are the 2nd worst informed. Disengenuous? Or do you just have no idea where they get their news from?
I see the flaming old queen from Roselle, Il is at it again accusing and putting down her political foes for using the same tactics she does.
Let me see:
You guys are actually attacking Romney on his comments and
supposed gaffes, when Pres. OBUMMER has actually been caught with his pants down
on LIVE television!? Or should I say, with President Medvedev's pants down and
Obama on his knees asking him please can I have some more...
Seriously?! You're accusing Romney of a gaffe!
Allow me to refresh your memory:
Obama to Medvedev: "This is my last election..."
Medvedev in response: "I understand you. I will
transmit this to Vladimir."
That's not a gaffe, that's for sure. That's trying to sell
out your country's security in order to get re-elected!!!
Republicans probably need to apologize for not having an inexperienced, freshman senator that went to a racist church running for president. It goes to show what our country is becoming!!
Feisty:
This is funny... Feisty, you do more attacking in the way of name calling then anyone on this board! Pulling a little John Kerry there with the flip flopping...
Romney certainly isn't my first choice, but he is easily better than Obama. Which isn't saying much, I admit, but better is not the same nor is it worse. I'll go with better if he is my choice. I think it will be hard to defeat Obama for the same reasons it is hard to defeat any sitting president, but it's not out the range of possibilities either. For most conservatives Romney's largest problem is in proving he has a core. Funny that for the left this is the very character trait they admire most about Obama.
Other than OBL's death it's hard for me to see anything good from the past three-plus years. We have fewer people working today than when Mr. Obama took office. We are $5 trillion more in debt now than when he took office, and with no sign this is letting up we will likely be more than $12 trillion more in debt (not even including the additional unfunded entitlements) than when Mr. Obama became president. We shouldn't do this. Romney has flaws, but they are miniscule compared to Obama's. Bush should have never imcreased the debt, certainly not higher than GDP growth rates, but he did, and the right, more than the left, criticized him for this.
The left got involved but only for cheap political shots. And now we have a president who doesn't lead, who lacks character, who supports even more immoral spending than Bush did, and the left, the true believers, the fellow travelers, are just creaming their panties over the idea of four more years of this. We need major cuts, both in the scope and depth of government. We need tax reform, including major reductions in corporate tax rates (I know, this is hated by you on the left, but consider who pays the taxes of a firm doing business). We need to strike thousands of pages of current regulations and to stop adding them at a pace that can't even be read.
I'd like someone better than Romney for all of this, but I can't agree to Obama, who is someone so far worse than Romney that it is hard to describe without sounding mean.
Romney...like the rest of the republican party..or at least those running for any office....have done great at handing out lip service on this debt deal they claim to have come up with for this country..however..as of yet, I have seen nothing in print that actually states just what is ion this budget they claim is suppose to be so good for this country. Lots of talk about it...many claims of how good it is to be in reducing the national debt..but...how can the national debt be reduced with big tax cuts for the wealthy ? Unless all of the debt is to be paid for by the middle class and the poor ? We voters need something verifible ..in writing that the republican party will stand behind. I will not however be holding my breathe to see that happen. The claims by the same republican party when Bush was in office about job creation coming from big tax cuts for the wealthy did not work..or even come anywhere close . Yet..this same republican party is telling us all just how good it will be ...I have to wonder for whom ?
Well, Rich...that should make a very nice bumper sticker for you:
"Vote for Romey. I almost think that he might suck less."
That's about as inspiring as the GOP can be...
Lets see, We can vote for a Party that sank the United States into a Recession ( Republican Party ) or we can vote for President Obama that has taken us out of the Abyss and is growing our economy without ANY help from the GOP. Sounds pretty easy
Obama/Biden 2012
Love that socialism right Feisty baby? Why don't you get a job and make it on your own instead
of sucking on the government - you worthless parasite!
Yo sez me u you must be one of the dumb crackers that help this sorry excuse for a president get in office , anyone that would vote for this President again is just dumber than dirt and thats putting it mildly. I guess your happy with the price of gas and food and unemployment , but if your brain dead like millions of others in this country it wouldnt matter if gas were 6 or 7 dollars a gallon or you had to live on peanut butter and bread everyday you would still vote for Obama.
wayne,
Isnt the beverly Hillbillys or Green Acres on yet? Typical Backwoods Cracker Low IQ
Those on the left they forgot that the worst part of the Bush administration was when the Democrats took congress, Obama was part of the parliamentary majority, to blame Bush and saying that he didn't knew how bad it was our economy is pure deceit and hypocrisy, if he were such a good president long ago that the unemployment rates would be below the 6%, figure before the Democrats toke congress.. Obama is not a moderate as they want submit, only seeing the people that has surrounded it the past few years we can draw conclusions , Van Jones, Annita dumm, Cornel West, Henry Louis Gates, Bill Ayers ,Trunpka are only a small example.
http://en.metapedia.org/wiki/List_of_Barack_Obama%27s_friends_and_associates
Hahahaha. What about your hidden policies, Slick Mitt?? You think people are going to forget about your "I don't care about the poor" or "I like firing people" gaffes??? Or your support for the elitist Ryan budget, which throws Medicare and its 50 million beneficiaries to the mercy of the so-called "Free market" while feeding trillions of dollars to the 1% and widening the wealth gap in America??? Please, stop fooling yourself and go look at your history. You don't stand a chance against Obama, much less yourself.
Let us hope that the Democrats will attack Romney with every weapon in their arsenal, especially the Ryan budget. Why the hell Romney would so openly embrace Ryan's plan is beyond my reasoning. I mean, even though it riles up the base it goes against millions of Americans, including the important independent and moderate vote. Needless to say that the GOP is bleeding moderates and some are turning to the Democrats for hope. I mean, how can a budget that takes trillions out of viable programs like education and infrastructure and privatizing Medicare while using the savings to pay off the wealthy in America be so popular among anyone, even Republicans?? Don't they go to public schools, or drive on public roads, or live on Medicare when they retire??? And why would anyone support a guy who said that he wanted to fix the moral fiber of the poor, while his plan sucks them dry and kicks them to the curb while favoring and nurturing the wealthy as if they are the only people that matter?? If I was a candidate I would have kicked Ryan's plan to the curb almost immediately, although it would depend on what party I am in. Romney has done everything possible to alienate moderates and independents, and I am surprised how far right he has come. But no matter. Romney and his crony Paul Ryan are a bunch of elitist snobs who instead of providing balanced solutions to our problems back trillions in cuts to necessary programs while sending a huge portion of the savings as useless tax cuts focused mostly on the wealthy. They ought to stop accusing Obama of attacking the wealthy and successful people and start looking at their own plans that are essentially economic genocide to the middle class in terms of future success and financial sustainability. At least Obama seeks to act in a balanced manner, while the GOP keeps flaunting their "my-way-or-the-highway" attitude. @!$%# off, GOP. You outlived your usefulness a long time ago, and now you are simply a hindrance to success for ALL Americans, including the middle class and the poor.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Sez I believe dance moms or lizard lick towing is on for you , you sound like an idiot from the northeast so please stay out of Florida because when people like you come here it lowers the iq percentage of the state.

Obama is not a moderate as they want submit, only seeing the people that has surrounded it the past few years we can draw conclusions , Van Jones, Annita dumm, Cornel West, Henry Louis Gates, Bill Ayers ,Trunpka are only a small example.
Is this a strong eastern European accent and broken English or do I detect something common among republican voters?
:)
I wouldnt step a foot into that backwoods state, They have a habit of killing children who drink tea and eat skittles
I was watching MSNBC, a guess on the show made a comment that I must admit never occured to me. He said, a lot of people that support the republican agenda, knowing they want to cut or end many government programs, don't realize that the help they are receiving from the government, is in fact one of the programs republicans want to stop, what's worse is, they don't realize that it is a government program.
Republicans want to privatize social security, if they are able to, then social security will be bankrupt within 10 years. They want to end medicare and medicade,SSI, disability, unemployment insurance, the Postal Service, public schools, veterans administration, government sponsored college grants and loans, welfare for the poor (welfare for the rich, which is called government subsidies, will be left untouched) the WIC program, free school lunch for poor children. There are many, many more. These and all the other programs republicans want to cut or end, have one thing in common, rich people don't need any of them. Republican voters, if any or all of your income, or if any or all of your medical care comes from the government, then you are using a government program, and if you still vote republican and your guy wins, then you better start making other living arrangements because your guy just won and you lose.
Hide and seek at it's best.
Mitt Romney is the most dishonorable candidate not just in this election year, but ever! It astonishes me every time he stands before a crowd (small though they might be) and blatently lies and attacks President Obama knowing full well he is deliberately deceiving the people. If the President had a “hidden agenda” all along, why would he wait for a second term to carry it out, knowing that there is always the chance there might NOT be a second term? Fortunately, for the American people, there WILL be a second Obama/Biden term!
Mitt Romney -- a man with no morals, no integrity, no conscience -- the worst thing that ever happened to politics.
Coming from candidate Etch-A-Sketch - this is PRICELESS!
No one plays 'Twister' politics quite like Willard!
Obama wishes he could Etch-A-Sketch his debt and deficit away ....
He can't even slow it down ....
Although he did Etch-A-Sketch Solyndra away .... "LOL"
The deficit is slowing down. Spending as a % of GDP is going down.
Exactly Feisty!
I suppose that because he is able to wipe the Etch-A Sketch clean from day to day he assumes everyone does.
Obama has not slowed our debt or deficit down ....
Go to .... Live Debt Clock ....
He can't even slow it down ....
Total debt per family is now at $690,771 , and climbing ....
Debt per citizen is $182,713 , which includes infants ....
Lovely ....
In other words, you have no idea what % of GDP means. Got it.
Our debt is larger than our GDP now .... Got it ....
Are we talking about deficit or debt?
Pick one.
And is now trying to use the money stripped from seniors and the middle class to keep the crusades going !
bigbenalaska
Obama can't hide his record high , credit down grading , Greece like debt and deficit very we .... "LOL"
A Short List of Barack Obama’s Major Progressive Achievements Thus Far
Our main achievements list is being updated, and will be released in the spring

But, you can change the Channel from Fox. You do know Fox has a license to LIE?
Fox News gets okay to misinform public, court ruling.
The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch, successfully argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves.
http://ceasespin.org/ceasespin_blog/ceasespin_blogger_files/fox_news_gets_okay_to_misinform_public.html
It might interest to know FOX IS about to go down for phone hacking. Yeah!!
You right wing nut sure are some strange fruit and so is your ding-bat, ex governor; half wit; failing,Sarah Palin.
You have to quit watching that stuff ....
You're appearing to be an expert on that news station ....
Obama does the same thing though ....
Not wanting to bring attention to his massive debt and deficit ....
bigbenalaska, did you complain about the debt when President's Reagan, Bush and Bush increased it 333% (189, 55 and 89 respectively)? What about those two unfunded wars Bush started and the Rx Medicare plan also unfunded--in fact, the GOP paid for nothing from 2001 through 2006, did you complain then? What about the huge unfunded tax cuts which added to the debt, did you complain about those? No matter what the GOP tells you, ben, you cannot decrease revenues without increasing the debt, you cannot start two decade long wars without increasing the debt, you cannot add an unfunded mandate for prescription coverage for medicare without bankrupting the system. In the words of Dick Cheney "deficits don't matter" yet here you are, bigben, saying they do and blaming President Obama who didn't create the massive debt in the first place. Sorry ben, that dog won't hunt.
bigbenalaska is a troll. Ignore him and you'll thank me for it. :)
Maybe ....
But a good looking , sweet smelling one .... Jeff ....
Ruken - You do realize that government spending is included in the GDP don't you? As it goes up, debt percentages of GDP will go down as long as government spending isn't all of the increase in GDP.
Here on MSDNC anyone who is not part of the "jackass" party is considered a troll.
Meanwhile Brian Roberts and Obama are sitting in a tree... K-I-S-S-I-N-G... First comes the lies, then comes the marriage, then comes his supporters in the baby carriage! Somebody give these whining babies a pacifier! Perhaps another round of entitlements or something!
Total waste of time MSDNC.
It must have really sucked big time when NBC had to apologize for editing that Zimmerman 911 call.
Good try Jody, but if you notice Ben shares the same attributes with that other lame-brained Alaskan, Palin. They are both good looking, smell sweet, and don't have the mental capacity to think and type more than Obama, debt, and deficit. Perhaps they are too preoccupied with gazing at Russia through window.
It's always fun to state the big scary numbers of how big the national debt is, and how that works out on a per family or per person basis. However, to get some perspective, try clicking on the Debt Ratio by Country tab on the Live Debt Clock website referenced in a previous comment. You will find that the US debt to GDP ratio is not outrageous and is well within range of other countries such as Germany, France, England, Canada and Australia.
Bigben is the poster child for mental masturbation. I'm guessing he's one of those Alaskan charity cases otherwise known as "Palin's Child".
If it wasn’t so pathetic it would almost be amusing how all the right wing posters and Obama haters have collective amnesia. Where were these loud mouth zealots when President Cheney and Vice President Bush were doubling the national debt and marching our troops off to third world rat holes just so Halliburton could increase their bottom line??????? Romney comes from the same mold as Bush and Cheney; just another money worshiping Republican pig that doesn't give a damn about this country......... Because to him, It's all about PROFIT.
nah, it's more fun to bat him around like a cat would a captured mouse. He gets his a$$ handed to him every time, but is either too stupid to know it, or just plain likes the attention. Maybe the missus gave up on him. Who knows, or cares.
Bush II doubled the national debt that he inherited from Clinton and it took him approximately eight yearst to do it keeping in mind that his biggest deficit was his last budget brought on by an economic crisis brought on by democrats. Now Obama has DOUBLED it again. You can prove any point you want when you massage the data correctly
This unfunded bull@!$%# is just that .....bull@!$%#. If you want to talk unfunded Obama has paid for the wars including his non-wars in exactly the same way.
But you are absolutely correct about one thing. You cannot decrease revenue without increasing debt.
Bill Clinton left George Bush with a recession and climbing unemployment. not to mention a 5 trillion loss in revenue. Bush followed accepted practice of spending to improve the economy. The economy that Carter left Reagan was even worse. When you talk about complaining why don't you a'holes ever complain about that.
BTW, I CAN BACK ALL THAT UP WITH LINKS TO ARTICLES WRITTEN BY THOSE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. CAN YOU BACK UP YOUR CLAIMS?
Obama keeps lying and America keeps dying, didnt he use to be in the group Spin Doctors. Anyone that would vote for him needs to have their head examined , but under Obama care that might take up to six or seven months. You just cant fix stupid or cure ignorance so the same ones will vote for Mr O. again and again and again no matter how he lies , you just cant convince stupid people what he is doing is killing this country they have tunnel vision and only see what they want to see.
I'm curious wayne-o. Does the white sheet get in your way when you type?
When I see Obama giving one of his speeches it reminds me of the show Are you smarter than a fifth grader , some one was kidding about who writes his speeches and it was said it was an eight grader , but I believe it could be true, no joke, just look at the clowns that follow him around and make up the crowd that stands behind him every time he is on tv, looks like he carries the same group of people with him wherever he goes , they just change their clothes.
As Mr. Romney lets loose his first salvo in the upcoming war of words that will comprise the 2012 presidential campaign from the "wrong" wing, let's take a moment and reflect.
All the Democrats need to do is replay any of the dozens upon dozens of verbatim comments the Republican challengers made in respect to Mr. Romney, his politics, and his record.
Then we move on to Mr. Romney's character, and then there's this gem from <gasp!> Fox News!
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/01/13/romneys-dog-on-car-roof-story-makes-him-unfit-to-be-president/
Yes, the image of an Irish Setter strapped in a cage to the top of a car going down the turnpike for 12 hours is, as they say in poker, "a pretty damn good tell." Nearly as good a tell as Mr.
Spinmeister-- I mean, Romney, telling another Fox correspondent, Chris Wallace, as related by Fox correspondent Lanny Davis, author of the above article: "But instead — Romney being Romney — he defaults into saying something utterly implausible. He recently told Fox's dog-loving Chris Wallace that Seamus actually loved it up there!"Oh, it's a bizarro world, all right, when I'm forced to agree with the comments of a Fox correspondent, when he writes in his concluding remarks to aforesaid article:
"I think anyone who puts his dog in a cage on top of a car for a 12-hour drive and then deludes himself or tries to delude others that the dog really enjoyed it — to me, with all due respect, I feel such a man shouldn’t be president of the United States."
Hear, hear, Mr. Davis, hear, hear!!
This year's deficit is approximately $1.1 trillion, and 2010 had a deficit of about $1.4 trillion. Basic math stands with Obama.
Oh and Big Ben, do you know what has driven up our debt??? Not Obama's spending policies (which pale in contrast to the GOP's fiscal policies), but the recession and the Bush tax cuts. Both have cost this nation over $7 trillion over the past decade, ballooning our debt and making our future look bleak. The right wing has caused most of the debt, and we have to stop tax cuts, raise them, and reform entitlements. Not only that, but we have to spend more money on fixing our infrastructure and our education system to help our economy. Call me a tax and spend liberal all you like, but that is the truth. We don't need a small government; we need a smart government, and that may require a big one.
Oh, and I'd love being a tax and spend liberal. It sure beats being a borrow and spend conservative.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
DEATH TO THE RYAN BUDGET 2012
shockedandstupid just because I dont agree with the President makes me a racist , well your stupidy must get in your way when you type, its people like you that are always playing the race card , I have black friends and they dont agree with his policies either because they see him for what he is, an arrogant , egotistical guy that he is , he is suppose to be a president but he acts more like a dictator. So if you dont like my comments put your head back in your as... and go back to sleep.
moderators here need to reavaluate how they collapse comments
I'd consider voting for somone other than Obama if the other choices wern't complete buffoons. Romney the ex corporate raider turned career politician who changes direction like a weather vane? Is that *really* the best the GOP can do?
Sorry, go back to rebuilding your party image, I'll go with the calm, sane black guy..
"Calm sane black guy..."
RTypo, did you really just write that??? Wow!
It's not as if Pres. Obama just promised to the president of Russia to sell out American missile defense just so that he could get some "space" in order to get re-elected. These are the calm guy's words:
Obama to Medvedev:
"This is my last election..."
Medvedev in response: "I understand you. I will
transmit this to Vladimir."
That's not a gaffe, that's for sure. That's trying to sell
out your country's security in order to get re-elected!!!
DUQU, remembering the Start Treaty was probably on the Presidents mind when he said that.Romney tried to spin that into his mystical magic tour. The start treaty has been passed thru many Presidents since Reagan, but the cons made it a political game in 2010. Thank goodness it passed during the lame duck session, because at that point the cons wanted to go home and play Santa Claus. It's total crap that Romney and yourself are using scare tactics,Romney is a liar and uses his own weakness to pawn on the President. The cold war is over,as Medvedev specifically pointed out to Romney. The President needs time to get Russia and China Aboard to implement this program,no mystery there. Romney will be playing with the big boys now,GAME ON! OBAMA-BIDEN 2012 J-MAL
Feisty Redhead,
Except Obama!!!
More of Mr. Obama's "Hide and Seek" politics is more like Mr. Obama's "Shadow Government" politics, and here is an excellent example:
Notice that the above still HAS NOT BEEN reported by MSNBC.
Wait a minute....I really like Mr. Obama's supporters, since they excel on knowledge of the political landscape (note the Obama passion in the above and below posts):
I thought this kind of politics was known as "all politics ever".
Mitt Romney 2007.
Mitt Romney 2012.
No special path for illegals . . . unless they serve in the military? Hmm.
Oh I see Ido is back with her lies and fantasies!
Wayne, our President is neither arrogant or egotistical. He just speaks intelligently which I suppose sounds arrogant compared with his predecessor. Clearly you are more comfortable with less intelligence!
bigbenalaska - why do you even bother? You know you can't even begin to match wits with Feisty!!!
Sigh. Poor illiterate wayne. The only thing shocking about your post is that you have friends, but since you are lying about everything else, there is no reason to believe you are being sincere about that.
Just calling it how I see it, wayne-o. Dictator has more than two syllables...are you sure you know what it really means when klan-man Rush pumps it into your brain cell?
Tell me Mr. Romney,
I have been hearing from you and your rival candidates time and time again about how Obama is bad. Now tell me, why is he bad? Tell me, what would you do instead? Tell me your plan. I have had enough with these attacks where you offer no alternatives. If you have a plan, come out and say it. Otherwise I will assume you have no plan, which quite frankly sir, scares the sh*t out of me.
Signed,
A Concerned Voter.
Romney's plan is whatever his big money supporters tell him his plan is.
He'll have to wait for the GOP/Tea Party talking points memo to come out before he dare opens his mouth on the specifics of any plan he might put forward.
Ruken, well said. We're waiting to hear what Romney would do, what his plan is and all we get is anti-Obama garble.
Romoney's plan/hope is to sit in the Oval Office. IF that would happen, only then would he - or anyone - realize that being President is one hard job!
Excellent question Ruken!
Romney and the rest seem to avoid that. You can see the plan by implication: such as Romney's visit with Ryan. More trickle-down rip-off obfuscation. They complain about Nancy Pelosi and HCR: "we'll find out what's in it after it passes" but they are doing the exact thing!
I'm 44 and I'm not worried about SS and MC for seniors (my parents). I'm worried about it for ME! More importantly, for my CHILDREN: I don't want them to have to worry about taking care of me(!) The whole point of SS and MC is to make sure seniors can retire to a modest income after a long life of work.
NOT taking care of the elderly is one of the reasons the middle class was able to grow in the 20th century. A thriving middle class is the reason the WEALTHY have done so well. Why not continue support of the middle class--EVERYBODY is better off for it. So sensible. Why isn't that a no-brainer for EVERYONE.
I am always amazed at how naive (to be kind) most liberals are. IF you are truly worried about us having the $ to pay for Social Security and about your kids and their future, then you should focus a lot more on our runaway "entitlement" programs and our truly crazy national debt, and encourage individual responsibility. Every day as our Federal Reserve prints money and props-up the capital markets, our national debt increases, our freedoms are eroded, and our currency is devalued. We are likely already far worse than Greece (or ancient Rome)... and Obama fiddles.
So, Rick - you will be more than willing to provide us with the proof of your absolute outrage when BushII purposely attempted to devalue the US dollar. We'll be waiting for your documentation...(yawn)...
Comparing the economic situation of the United States today to the fall of the Roman Empire means that you must have studied history with Newt Gingrich. Rome is more of a warning to the hubris and excess of the Republican Party than it is to the current administration, but thanks for bringing it up and making yourself look silly, uneducated and paranoid (do I smell tea????).
Golly gee, the LWNJ's are so entertaining, why just the the other year (2008) obama campaigned only on the rhetoric of "hope and change".
Now that obama has to campaign on his policies of 2009/2010 (2011 and most of 2012 has been spent on re-election campaigning) the left insists that romney give a detailed plan on what he will do. LMAO! The lefts love affair with obama continues.
So I assume you are referring to when Obama actually thought that he could do the job, but when he actually to the seat he realized he was way out of his league?
Exactly Mark L- from the very beginning I said we would be fools to hire a pool boy to fix our roof, all I ever got in return was being called a racist.
Ruken
I have supplied links left and right to back up what I had to say. You have provided NOTHING. So maybe you should just go sit quietly in a corner somewhere.
Fitzwife - Your being called a racist probably has something to do with your poor choice of metaphors. Calling an adult African American man a "boy" is the height of racism - going way back into the slave days. How you do not know this is beyond me.
You do skirt the line just enough so that we can't tell if you are either ignorant and insensitive, or if your are pushing the slur just enough so that you can back out and play the victim if you are called on it.
There are many other ways in which you could have made your point without slipping in a racial slur and, given your post above, my guess is that you did it on purpose. You may be interested in checking out a specific plan by the KKK in the late 60's/early 70's regarding reverse racism and, if you are truly sincere, back away from using their tactics when posting your opinions.
What has the GOP proposed to fix these problem??? I wish the Democrats did do that (they did during the summer of 2011, but for some reason that doesn't count), but how has the GOP proposed to fix entitlements??? All they propose is cuts and privatization without increasing revenues; no compromise. And where were you when the GOP racked up a huge debt during Bush and Reagan??? Obama has simply advocated equal opportunity through the tax code, and he is accused of starting a class war. And in case you haven't noticed, Rome collapsed because people began ignoring the laws and barbarians overwhelmed their borders, and Greece is in trouble because few people pay taxes. The GOP will only sink our economy by increasing the wealth gap through more trickle-down economics. Obama has done a lot to help America, and I'll gladly vote for him.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Yeah because we've always called the people who clean pools, pool men? would it be less racist to you if I said pool cleaner? Let's even make it easier and say we hired a roofer to clean our pool. Is that better? Being purposely obtuse is unbecoming, you knew exactly what I meant yet you still chose to throw the race card.
Shockedand stupid you know why liberals hang so tight, its because they all have to share a brain and with so many of you out there it takes a long time for it to make its rounds from the east coast to the west coast. I like what the guy that I work with said , if a Democrat had a brain they would take it out and play with it. So if all of you that voted for Obama are better off than you were when he first got in office do it again and lets see how much worse it gets if he gets back in office , with some people its true "You just cant fix stupid".
I would say that stupid would be doing the same thing for 30 years and still wanting the American public to buy the scam of trickle down economics. I watch the repeated regurgitation of the propoganda fed the right by hate jocks and Fox and know i am staring into the abyss of stupidity. This race to the bottom in wages and benefits and redristribution of wealth from the middle class to the elite is destroying the fabric of our society. If you want to talk about reform of entitlements then tell us what the tax loopholes are that you are going to close. The silence from the Ryan crowd on that issue speaks volumes. The tax loopholes they seek to close are home mortgage and childcare deductions.
Shocking and disgusting because the whole country is shocked and disgusted at the POS you moonbats put in the White House. By the way POS's mother was white the same as me so get off the racist BS, you are the racist for refusing to acknowlege that fact, He Is Not African American, He Is White African American as in White Hispanic, DA. K2MM is that the excuse now the job is to hard for wonder boy. The fact is the Harvard flunkie is not qualified. Don't ask for anyone to prove anything to you, Romney's first two as POTUS years will be spent blaming the POS, you wouldn't expect anything less would you moonbat.
wayne - I was just thinking about how you and Fitz clearly share the same 1/4 brain that has atrophied beyond repair. Clearly you two mental midgets are representative of the low intelligence many on the far right exhibit. It clearly shows in all your posts.
Bob Jones - you could complain if the GOP ran anyone with even a semblance of intelligence but you come up with buffoon after buffoon. Luckily for the US we have an intelligent President who will kick Romney's a** in November. Then he can go play with the car elevator. That's just about his speed!
I think if we got fitz the insincere, wayne the illiterate and bob the bagger in the same room, we just might have a full set of teeth.
Thanks to all 3 of you for demonstrating the type of people that are forced, through their own hatred and ignorance, to support Romney. It's not "our" fault that the cream of the crop of your defunct party is a lying slime ball.
All you did is prove my point.... Considering my avatar is Ron Paul, what's the likelihood of me voting for Romney? Your lack of perception tells me all I need to know.
Ron Paul is a Libertarian that calls himself a Republican because he can not get any votes as a Libertarian. My perception is that when you admit to supporting Ron Paul, that you will sell out and vote Republican rather that stand by your principles. I was going to point out Ron Paul's documented past of blatant racism in light of you being perceived as racist...but I figured that would be to obvious...
What point are you trying to make, Fitz? That you will self righteously use a racial slur regardless of who's feelings you might hurt? Your lack of common decency tells me all I need to know.
Um no if you look back over my history you will see that I have stated numerous times that if Dr. Paul doesn't become the nominee I will either write him in or vote for Gary Johnson.
You can point out Dr. Paul's "blatant racism" all you want we all know it's not there debunked newsletters from 20 years ago don't count sorry.
I used no racial slur at any point THAT'S my point! no matter what professions I use in my analogy the whole meaning behind them is that we hired someone who isn't capable of doing the job we requested. YOU made it about race because of the word "boy"
I don't know who cleans your pool and what they call themselves I do know that the person who cleaned our pool always said "It's me Charlie, the pool boy" he happens to be white. So like I stated above your lack of perception tells me all I need to know.
From someone who who as govoner bought all of his computers to hide information from the public
I wish Obama would have hid his debt and deficit from us ....
It's disastrous ....
Oh, so you want him to do a George W. Bush, right?
At least President Obama did not try to Etch-A Sketch the war debt away. Bush DID! fusy math person.
Alaska, in case you didn't quite understand SayitanitSo's comment, of the $4 trillion spent in Afghanistan and Iraq during the Bush Administration, not one cent was ever included in any budget. When more money was needed Bush would ask Congress for a Continuing Resolution and then borrow the money from China.
Even Democrats had to go along with this smoke and mirrors game to provide the material our troops needed or be accused of "not supporting our brave fighting men and women". It was kind of like blackmail. (I wonder if anyone at Rumsfeld's Department of Defense ever found those four pallets of American cash that went missing in Baghdad?)
As for hiding deficits, it was Obama who insisted that all war expenditures be put 'on budget' so all Americans could finally see what was being spent to get Osama bin Laden and find weapons of mass destruction.
No one can hide government expenses ....
That's why Obama's record is his worst enemy ....
How is this administration hiding anything? Just go to www.whitehouse.gov and you can find full disclosure of where money is going, including all of the 'stimulus" funds. It is the GOP/TP that continually tries to hide where they are wasting money.
Bruce... you DO realize that under Obama the Democrat-controlled-Congress has not yet even PASSED an annual budget, right? LOL... it is amazing how the Dems depend upon people with IQs below 90 to remain in power.
"...it is amazing how the Dems depend upon people with IQs below 90 to remain in power"..
Ricky-poo...We would never depend on you or Sarah Palin for anything...
Such fools the FR libs are, The dept of defense budget carried the war expenses as well as any continuing resolutions and were always carried over to expenditures applied to the yearly deficit and ultimately to our public debt. The treasury wouldn't have it any other way.
Bruce...
Last I checked in 2011, the total spent on the afghan and iraq conflicts amounted to about $1.1 trillion. Now you make the claim of $4 trillion just by the bush administration. Your brain must be as fuzzy as your math.
Solutions539
You don't even have a clue as to what you are talking about now do you. Obama raised hell about how Bush funded the wars and now we know he funded other parts of the war in the same way and he funded the wars in 2010 in exactly the same way
http://www.ufppc.org/us-a-world-news-mainmenu-35/9850-commentary-obama-breaks-promise-to-end-war-supplementals-again.html
American and Rick - clearly delusional, poor things! I'm guessing Romney has you both right in his pocket, hanging on every lie he tells. Although, I'm not sure how you keep his lies straight as they change hourly! Just hang in there - he has street corners for both of you to work if he wins - which he won't!
Obama/Biden 2012
I wish people would understand that the reason the deficit is so high is because of the recession and the god-awful Bush tax cuts.
Oh and I wish Romney hid his elitism and ego.
It's disastrous ....
Get a life, ben. People are pretty damn tired of hearing your right-wing BS. Go back to the cold cave from which you originated until you have a meaningful argument to bring.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Mr. Romney would say the same in the same situation, except make sure his mike was off. All politicians are liars. The choice is in which liar you choose to believe will do the least damage to you personally.
Am I the only one that thinks Mitt Romney sounds insincere whenever he says anything? And what kind of name is Mitt or Newt for that matter? Do we really want someone who shares a name with sports equipment or a lizard as president?
The hubby says Romney reminds him of a used car salesman.
People buy allot of used cars though ....
Hey Phine .... : )
Hey Ben,
Sorry, but Mitt does remind us exactly of a used car saleman that tried to sell us a car for our daughter's 16th birthday. Hubby wasn't pleased with the car or the price, and the saleman, trying to work a deal said "I know you think I am bogus, but I'm not". Well, Mr. p feels Mr. Romney is bogus.
Well Phine ....
I really wish Obama's debt and deficit were bogus ....
Ben: It's "a lot." Sorry that just drives me crazy. People buy a lot of used cars, but nobody wants the Pintos that Mittens is selling.
Ben,
The thing is, you aren't going to be able to fix the debt and deficit with tax cuts to the top earners and cutting social problems. You need to raise revenue and look at other areas to cut (say taking a hard look at the Pentagon budget)
With Obama's debt ....
America can barely afford flip flops ....
Never mind a Pinto ....
Ben,
You do realize the entire debt didn't happen just because of Obama? And the debt problem, and how to handle it requires a variety of ideas to get it under control, including controlling health care costs, raising revenue, investing in R&D, and a whole lot of good ideas from both sides of the aisle. If we could just get away from all the "My way or the highway" rhetoric both sides use and work together. That debt you always talk about could be addressed.
It hasn't been addressed yet ....
gfromChicago, good one!
bigben, seriously, your comments and questions about the debt have been answered many times on this particular FR article; the fact that you don't like those answers and facts, and choose to ignore them is your problem.
Ben, you keep saying the same (somewhat retarded thing) over, over, and over. You also ignore any attempt by others to get you to explain your position. That makes you a troll, but a pretty successful one at least...
There's just something not right about Romney, isn't there? Is it the phony smile, loopy comments, flip/flopping? All of these, but also something else isn't right.
Well, at least one-liner Ben has one thing right, we can't afford flip-flop Romney for president.
or a "barack? "" whatever in the f88 w
Greetings phine, yep obama didn't create our total public debt, but he sure is trying hard to double it.
You do realize phine that when reagan and tip o'neil came up with the tax reform act of 1986 that spending cuts were also to be made. Seems that the spending cuts never materialized, but the taxes were. Interesting that those tax cuts helped lead us into the tech boom of the 90's.
Technically the tax cuts were made during the tech boom. And that could have been coincidence. And if tax cuts led us to the tech boom, why didn't we have a surge of job growth during the Bush era???
And ben, you forget that Obama offered to cut the deficit by $4 trillion over 10-12 years. And exactly how do tax cuts decrease the deficits??? Why don't you use half of the energy you use against Obama to fight against the GOP tax plans that will bankrupt this country????
And phine, you might as well give it up. Ben doesn't seem to care how nonsensical he sounds. Save your energy for combating distortions of the truth. He ain't worth it.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
DEATH TO THE RYAN BUDGET 2012
Ah.....just guessing......for one thing...and for starters....Romney would not tick off the SCOTUS.....at least not while they are deciding the legality of something as important as Obamacare is to the POTUS and while some in the SCOTUS have already expressed some doubts about it going forward publicly (and privately)....................just sayin......
IMHO - Romney is afraid to say anything lest he offend everyone...
Uh.....Romney seems to be saying a lot these days, especially now that it is crystal clear as of today that he will be the Republican nominee and with his focus being entirely on the POTUS henceforth.....Romney will soon be joined by Marco Rubio as the VP Candidate which will pretty much assure that they will effectively "double team" the POTUS like never before and for the next 6 months and incessently..........just sayin.........
@ JusBidenMyTime
Romney should say nothing. Is Romneycare mandate legal?
Sarah Palin said on Hannity last night she wants Allen West for VP.
Yes, because states can mandate (see automobile liability insurance).
The issue before SCOTUS is if Congress (i.e. the federal gov't) can do the same.
Pretty sure that Romney does not have a mandate before the SCOTUS right now......but the POTUS does and big time........just might be huge game changer.....and the SCOTUS ain't too happy with the POTUS these days.......not a warm and fuzzy feeling.....let alone reassuring that the POTUS will get what he REALLY needs here.........and that is support for Obamacare!
Hey JusBiden. Maybe you could turn off the bold. It doesn't have the effect you want when you use for for all of your text.
The SCOTUS should not be making any decisions based on how they feel about the POTUS. If that is what they are doing they deserve to be hung for treason. Or at least ejected for a lack of ethics.
There. See how just bolding a single word imparts emphasis?
Baja5B......You do believe in "Freedom of Expression"......don't you?.....Oh..one more thing........do you really think that members of the SCOTUS are anyone else on the Planet Earth for that matter are going to tell you their "private thoughts" about ANY situation..and under any circumstances....................................if they do not want to?
I sure do. You are free to express yourself. But if you want to be listened to, you need to address the audience. You are also free to piss in any direction you choose, but you'd be a fool to point upwind.
Baja5B.......You do love to lecture.....now tell me what you know about me based on verifiable facts and not just your hip-shot wild and completely unsubstantiated guesses and anonymous opinions here!
I now know that you are ill informed about how to address an audience and influence them. No guessing needed. The only guess or opinion you see from me in this thread is guessing that you want people to read and be influenced by what you write. If I am wrong and you do not then I suppose this is all moot. However, if you read what I wrote you will notice I never claimed to know anything about you beyond that.
Just biden, my eyes appreciate the bold print even with explorer set at 150%.
November won't be a problem for Romney. With Obama claiming a panel of unelected judges have no right to overturn his carefully crafted and totally worthless health care debacle just proves his intent to undermine Democracy and the free enterprise system in America. He was toast in 2010, but the burns just didn't show. When he reduces the entire progressive movement in America to rubble and leaves Washington in disgrace in December I'll have a crying towel for all of you....with George Walker Bush's smiling face on it so you will know who to blame!
Huge gender gap for Romney. Huge Hispanic gap for Romney. The MATH is not on Romney's side. Care to dispute the MATH.
Guess the GOP thinks only rich old white men vote.
"When he reduces the entire progressive movement in America to rubble and leaves Washington in disgrace"
Sounds very similar to what happened to the Republicans in 2006 and 2008.
Ed....me thinks that Marco Rubio on the Romney ticket will certainly improve the mathematical odds here for the Republicans in November.....and this has been in the works for quite some time now especially at the ol' RNC headquarters............
About that, Ed. . .
A few days ago, I reminded people of the issues with the polling in the 1948 and 1980 elections, and informed you that we will see the same issues arise in this election.
Why? Well, every couple of generations, polling firms decide that they need new methodology, or a different way to sample in order to get a representative pool.
Funny thing, they never seem to look back at their polling in the prior election, to see if they were within their margin or error, or, of not, which way they were skewed. They just adapt to what they define as "the missing link" in their pools.
To that end, we have this
http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2011/07/27/gallup-pew-calling-more-mobiles-for-their-polls
Gallup, by the way, has adjusted the number of cell phone only users polled. Their pool is now 60% cell phone only- with a concomminant rise in Obama's approval number.
So, what's the problem? Quite simply- cell phone only users are just 25% of the population.
Marist, by the way, weights for cell phone only users, but is pretty stingy with the details- therefore, no one knows if their numbers are accurate. Only an election will tell us for sure.
Anyway, back to the polling issue- by vastly over sampling cell phone only users- who tend to be people 25 and under- polling firms truly mis-characterize the opinions of the public.
It is akin to doing a a poll for a dog food manufacturer, with a pool made up primarily of cat owners.
However, when one understands that polls are primarily news drivers, one understands why these changes are adapted every thirty years or so.
Things will go back to normal after the election- but not until after a lot of "what went wrong" hand-wringing.
JusBidenMyTime,
Piece of advice, which you can take or leave, Rubio will not be on the ticket. And even if he is, he won't be the key to Latino voters. A better draw would be New Mexico governor Susana Martinez.
Ed, it would all depend on whether or not those traditional democratic voting blocks are at the polls. In 2008, Pew shows that about 76% of those who voted were white, 12% were black and 4% were hispanic with this being the largest turnout of blacks and hispanics. If the number of blacks and hispanics were to drop, that would seem to help Romney more than Obama.
Interesting, to me at least, is how obviously flawed the Gallup telephone poll in 1948 was. For those who don't remember, the Chicago Times hired Gallup and based on their projections, ran the infamous "Dewey Wins" headline. The flaw? In 1948 the vast majority of those who had telephones were Republicans.
How do cell phones figure into polling nowdays? I know a lot of people, myself included, have given up land lines for cell phones. No snark, just curious.
nojo,
Sorry, didn't see your post up there. I know you referenced Marist and Gallup. Are all the other pollsters doing the same?
It was not just Gallup that had Dewey so far ahead the election seemed a foregone conclusion. All of the polling organizations extant at that time made the same, flawed weighting decisions.
Interestingly enough, all major polling organizations had Carter and Reagan in a dead heat. Reagan beat Carter by ten points in the popular vote- and it was real blow-out in the electoral college. The naval gazing after the election led the pollsters to conclude that Reagan had gained all of that vote as a result of the debate- despite Carter's speech to the nation just a few days before the election informing us that there had been a "break through" in the negotiations, and promising that the hostages in Iran would be released.
It wasn't for a couple of years that they finally admitted that, perhaps, their weighting was off.
They're going to do it again this election.
The answer to your question is yes- and no.
"traditional" polling firms, that use a live telephone interviewer, do include cell phone users in their polls. In order to achieve what they deem a "proper" representation, one of the first questions asked is "have I reached you on your cell phone, or a landline phone?". If it is a cell, the next question is "do you have a landline phone, or is this your only phone?". If there is a landline and they are seeking cell phone users, they thank and disconnect.
As to the "no"- there are polling firms that use pre-recorded surveys, which are also random dialed; however, because it is illegal to "robot call" cell phones, they are precluded from calling cell phones by this method. There are three firms that use so-called robot polls- PPP, a democratic firm, Rasmussen, and SurveyUSA.
In order to get around the cell phone issues, all of these firms have added an Internet component to their polling. This has had the effect of an almost instant rise in Obama's approval-over-disapproval rating. Again, the problem- particularly for these three firms- is a vast OVER representation of those under 25. Why for them in particular? All three firms purport to poll "Likely voters"- when, in fact, (despite Obama's 2008 success in getting them to the polls), they are actually the LEAST likely voters, rendering them a pretty small subgroup of the electorate.
Despite the mad math necessary to complete statistics courses, polling is, still, more art than science. In addition, polling firms tend to be very reluctant to admit errors- despite the results of elections that disprove the polls. Just one example of this? NBC/WSJ polls showed democrats over republicans by two percentage points days before the 2010 midterms. Republicans won by 8 percentage points- yet the target pool of people has never been adjusted for that significant error.
One assumes they are determined that the electorate fit their description, rather than the other way around. . .
Great...
The last thing we need is a unsolicited opinion on polling from the poll-dancing granny, pathological, nut job in NJ!
Better than an opinion from a left wing Liberal fruitcake from Illinois. Oh by the way FEISTY DEADHEAD how is the Rush Limbaugh show doing, LMAO thought he would have been off the air by now since you quit buying from his sponsors!!!
Yeehaw!! What an insightful post from the "loving" left in Illi-noize. Do you have anything other than hate spew from your mouth? You do have a mother dont you? I mean Ive heard that gingers have no souls but you are proving it right.
Actually Phine asked at #8.9 and no joe answered, seems once again your hatred has blinded you ma'am.
Wow, Feisty - Do you ever feel like you're in a bad zombie movie being chased ugly men groaning "Brains...brains..."
Please do not give them any...as they are, they are no more frighting honey-bee drones. They look a little scary, but they are decidedly without a "stinger".
Shockedanddisgusted,
Or angry parrots... ;o)
I sure can stir up the nest though... lol
Because they have been neutered rather then tutored...
I'll take a bulls-eye on my back over a boot on my neck anyday...
Obama/Biden 2012!!!
Best for the newbies to not comment on things of which they know nothing about...
Why would I believe anything the pathological liar says? No one, and I mean no one on First Read has been exposed more times by the moderators & commenters for being not only a bold face liar, but a fraud!
PS: Don't worry about poor NJ - she has me on ignore, *wink wink*
I can talk all I want behind her back! lol
PPS: I don't hate her, if anything I pity the poor thing!
My freedom of speech trumps my "newbieness" I'm just callin it like I saw it.
I'm not worried about no joe I was just pointing out that she was in fact asked and it wasn't "unsolicited" as you stated.
Yes you can, because freedom of speech trumps your "oldness" (not meaning old as in old but as in not a newbie)
I still stand my blind hatred comment though, yes I may be a "newbie" to FR but in the 2 plus years I've been reading this site, I've noticed you're very mean to people, I wish more of you (on BOTH sides) could be like phinephancy and Egilman, they can agree to disagree without personal attacks.
Well, fitz - I do appreciate the sentiment but feel that you are mistaking outrage with hatred. We saw first hand in 2010 what happens when we try to just ignore the unrealistic hatred and lies being spread about the President of the United States and that "turning the other cheek" gets us a huge, dysfunctional mess in the House of Representatives.
Above you had mentioned that you were called a racist for comparing President Obama to a pool boy and I offered my suggestion that the metaphor you chose contains a reference that is considered highly offensive and, perhaps, you could have chosen another example to better express your point to those who are more sensitive to the term.
Instead of seeing a point of view other than your own, your response was sarcastic and condescending and you fell back on the tired old "race card" comment instead of understanding how and why some people outside of your clique could see your comment as racist.
Because of that response, you seem to me as being insincere and that you did use the reference purposefully. I'm willing to say that you are willing to agree to disagree with only those you agree with.
Take a good look at the responses from "wayne" and "bob jones" if you want an example of blind hatred. When combined with your response, I'm sure you will understand when I begin thinking of my own metaphor concerning people who live in glass houses...
I was thinking Romney acts like a speed freak when he does that nonstop psychobabble about "OBAMA. I guess his "gate keepers"cant keep him on a short leash ! He goes form one disaster to another .Still can't seal the deal anywhere!
And now whats up with him and Ryan ? Ryan created the whole financial meltdown ,and tries to take social security and medicare away from the seniors . And is now trying to use the money stripped from seniors and the middle class to keep the crusades going !
Please, Palm, enlighten us of how Ryan "created the whole financial meltdown". This ought to be a good fairy tale from you.
And, if you had read the budget, instead of the daily talking points, you'd know he isn't trying to "take" medicare and social security away from seniors. He has proposed ways to reform the programs. If something isn't done, those two programs along with medicaid will be broke by 2025. Would you like it to go broke, Palm, so NOBODY gets anything???? And, since everybody knows it needs reform why not do it now? Or, do you prefer the Dem way of recent years, where you wait to the final minute and scream "the sky is falling" .
And, while you're talking about medicare, how do you feel about the $14 billion Obama is taking from Medicare to fund ACA? Seems to me he's the one who's taking from seniors!
And, if and when ACA goes into effect, you'll really see how much Obama really plans to take from them. He will use his "panel" who decides who does and doesn't get treatment to accomplish his goal.
Progressives like Margaret Sanger and Pres Wilson believed in eugenics. Sanger wanted forced sterilization but couldn't get it done so she then promoted birth control to control the increase of "undesirables" and Wilson was quite in agreement with her. The undesirables were: poor, mentally ill, physically disabled and people of color. So, now, the undesirables are that same group PLUS the elderly who we have heard Obama complain that they take so much in medical resources during their last years and questioning if that's worthwhile.
And, what about the fuss right here on t his board recently that at 71 Cheney shouldn't have been given a heart transplant? Of course, some here were saying it just because it was a Republican. But, wait until it's one of your loved ones who could benefit from a procedure or a medication only to be told they're too old and then we'll see how you like Obama's ACA "panel".
Yep, every one of you progressive liberal democrats are going to find out just what it is they want to "take" ; it will be the lives of the "undesirables" and those considered "no longer useful nor valued". You see, when you turn your healthcare over to somebody else, you no longer have a say in it.
As a GDI, I must say, get your facts straight. It is $500M in waste that comes from Medicare, not $14B cuts in Medicare that "helps fund ACA coverage expansion."
Palm: Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Where did you get this stuff? BTW: "By 'flexibility,' he means that 'what the American public doesn't know won't hurt him.' " is a truism, almost axiomatic.
Maybe it is just me, but carrying out sensitive negotiations with a foreign power in the public forum - especially as political fodder for a presidential election, seems not to bright.
True ....
Someones not the brightest star in the sky .... "LOL"
Yeah - Kind of like doing it on an open mic! Man you folks are scary.
You know, I remember a day when the press would have let that kind of private comment pass for the good of the nation. Now, ALL of today's journalists want to be the next Woodward & Bernstein. Sometimes, you just need to let somethings pass. Not taking a side here, just making a point about journalism. (Although, Mr. Romney playing politics with the remark doesn't seem like very smart politics to me)
Obamanomics are even scarier ....
Ben,
That is fair to argue and debate in the public, political forum. But, remember we need Russia's help in dealing with some sensitive areas of the world. Playing political games with them just doesn't feel right.
Russia feels like they are our allies ....
But Obama makes them wonder if it's true ....
It's smart politics to me, Phine. And, I'm damn glad it happened. Obama said "flexibility after the election". What does that mean, Phine? To me, it says he's not being truthful about his plans. If he can do it after the election, why can't he now ? It's because he's going to do just he opposite of what he has said publicly.
BTW, I've read here you consider yourself an independent. Anytime you have to say "I'm not taking sides" is BS.
To me it said he wouldn't be able to get anything accomplished because of the presidential election. But hey, you say tomato and I say tomoto. Just a different perspective.
phinephancy - what guarantees can you provide that Rubio will not be on the ticket in November?
He couldn't get it done becasue of the makeup of the senate asdn the house won't allow him to pass anything, regardless of its importance to the American people or to the world. What we need is a congress with fewer of the Obama haters who will do ANYTHING to keep him from being re-elected, even if it hurts the country significantly
Ferrosynthesis - I think there will be fewer Obama haters in the House and Senate come November. I believe Obama will begin his next term with the Dems hold a strong dominance in the Senate and a slight one in the House. People are just sick of the hatred the right has been spewing for the last 3 1/2 years and the lies they keep broadcasting.
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney is a liar whose only goal is to avoid paying taxes by hiding all his money in the Cayman's Islands and the Swiss banks. The last thing we need is another super rich guy telling all the working poor people in the US how he's going to take the rest of mini salaries and give it to the super rich. Under Romney, we can brace ourselves for the world's first trillionaires.
If Romney is elected than the US will replace Iraq as the new Dictator Communist country.
Which is why he paid everything he was lawfully required to pay. Wait...
Let me see:
You guys are actually attacking Romney on his comments and
supposed gaffes, when Pres. OBAMA has actually been caught with his pants down
on LIVE television!? Or should I say, with President Medvedev's pants down and
Obama on his knees asking him please can I have some more...
Seriously?! You're accusing Romney of a gaffe!
Allow me to refresh your memory:
Obama to Medvedev: "This is my last election..."
Medvedev in response: "I understand you. I will
transmit this to Vladimir."
That's not a gaffe, that's for sure. That's trying to sell
out your country's security in order to get re-elected!!!
Romney reminds me of a game show host.
Bob Barker or Wink Martindale?
Wink Martindale anyone?
He also reminds me of Dan Akroyd hawking the Bass-O-Matic....
Obama will be booted out with a flip flop ....
Ben,
Don't want to hurt your feelings, but I call my flip flops "Mitts" and my mooseskin moccasins "Sarahs". I know, I have a perverted sense of humor.
The only flip flop leaving will be Flip Romney.
Who just flip flopped on the pipeline .... "LOL"
no, phine, you don't have a perverted sense of humor just a nasty mouth
Richard Dawson without the charisma
dirt
???????? Now how was I nasty? It is actually a family joke. Are you insulting my family?
phine maybe dirt meant that "sarah" is a dirty word? one can hope right? If that's not it than he/she obviously doesn't know you.
I think the Republican convention is going to look like the "Let's Make a Deal" complete with an audience filled with dumb people in horrible costumes draped with tea bags.
Time to buy stock in Lipton.
He wears magic underwear and worships a false prophet. On the other hand, he's rich.
"Romney, who received muted applause from the audience of journalists" ???
Did obama get applause yesterday ??? If so why ? isn't the audience journalists ???
If they didn't applaud obama, why did the above article mention this ??? strange isn't it ???
and Fox news is the problem right ???? how pathetic are liberal journalists and the idiots who think that they don't have an agenda.... How pathetic.... and these are the smart people of the world.... Right ? the gig is up libs ... keep trying.... FREEDOM will always overcome your stupidity.....
Well if you had of watched any other news source besides a FOX affiliate you would have seen portions of the Presidents speech and the applause that he received from the audience (journalists).
But keep blaming "liberal journalists" instead of being an informed voter and getting your news from multiple sources. Oh right, they are all "main stream media" outlets so you don't trust them either do ya.
Paranoid at all?
I don't understand your post. You're mad because the journalists applauded Romney? You're mad because the article didn't say whether Obama got applause or not? You're mad because somehow every single journalist in the world is a "liberal"? You're mad because a rabid dog bit you?
The AP executive who introduced Obama yesterday forgot he wasa journalist and gave a liberal speech in praise of Obama policies. Exactly like what the entire AP has become, a liberal shill.
I think the Liberal media will have a harder time hiding Obama from the facts that his party has been running the largest economy in the world w/o a budget for four years. Regardless of the liberal spin common sense eventually wins out....
UAW -
Obama/Reid/Pelosi doesnt want their economic failures on record. This is by far the best way to do it. Keep the uber liberal sheep spun up on unimportant topics while they pile on the debt with no record to substantiate it in the future.
"Exactly like what the entire AP has become, a liberal shill."
Wow, bob. Is that anything like being a shill for a disgusting, perverted governor that wants to probe rape victims?
Romney said an economy is made up of all the businesses. I thought CONSUMERS were the most important part of an economy. Romney does not engender a whole lot of confidence in his ability.
Companies are people, so they are the most important people. According to Mittster, that is
And what exactly would a consumer purchase without the businesses to provide the goods? Neither is more important than the other, they go hand in hand.
Freedom and equal opportunity mean entirely different things to the GOP and Democrats. To the GOP is means I as the individual have the right to earn as much as I want, keep as much as I want, free from the interference of the government. The model works well enough when we each have our "40 acres and a mule" and only interact to exchange commerce and to come together for mutual defense from the Indians. It quickly starts breaking down when we have to address what to do about the folks over the ridge, down in the valley that just got washed out by the flood. It breaks down once we determine that a free, public education is a necessity. It breaks down when a guy whose initials are JDR or CV build railroads to transport commerce from these far flung farms, but decide they can manipulate the rates. It breaks down when the farmer on top the ridge decides to go into industrial pig farming, but doesn't care about the farms down stream from him. For better or worse, our collective conscience is expressed through our government - which is "we the people." We do have the right to collectively organize for our general welfare.
Great post. Either we want civilization, or we don't.
Why does it break down in that manner? The difference you forget is that conservatives leave the taking care of people not to government but to individual charitable organizations. Polls show that conservatives historically give more to charity than do liberals which demonstates the conservatives do care about civilization but differ from liberals who is better able to react/help.
Bookem' Danno - not true. Democrats give more to true charities - not just religious groups. And, Democrats and Independents give more of their time to actually work with those who are less fortunate. The Republicans don't want to "get their hands dirty."
and just wait until the debates. Romney will show his ignorance. He'll have prepared talking points (like Palin) that his keepers have written but I would bet , yes, $10,000, that he won't really respond on point. One would hope that any moderator worth his or her salt will tell Mittens to drop the facade and actuallly answer the question.
"You get to ask the questions that you want, but I get to answers the questions that I want, and I haven't memorized an answer to the question you asked, so I'll answer a question you didn't ask."
The questions will not even get to the next new President because the ex President will be pausing throughout the debate without his teleprompter.
Teleprompter again? Really? Desperation makes one say such silly and lame things!
Bears34 - your total stupidity is showing since every President in modern times - yes even your dear Regan - used teleprompters. You probably didn't know it with Bush because - no matter what - he just sounded stupid! Those big words always threw him!
Oh and since the "ex-President, Bush," won't be part of the debates your argument is even stupider!
Romney just states platitudes about "freedom" and "opportunity" and then attacks generally - never very specifically. Where's the beef? He says Obama lost the most jobs since the Great Depression. However, he knows very well that all of those jobs were lost between December of 2007 and October of 2009. Let's see, who would seem to have been the cause for those job losses? Does he mention that 2010, 2011, and 2012 have all shown positive job growth? Does he mention that two million jobs were lost in January, February and March of 2009 alone? Are you really going to blame Obama for that - when NONE of his programs had been implemented by that time? QUIT YOUR DISINGENUOUS BULL@!$%#! ALL of the jobs losses suffered during the Obama Administration (which were all essentially in his first eight months in office) belong to W. Romney should be railing about the HORRIBLE economy that W. left us. It was unimaginably horrible. And the wall of red ink came tumbling down at the same time as the economy contracted at an amazing 9% rate in the third quarter of 2008 - with tax revenues plummeting.
Will U-Haul be giving Obama a discount .... ??
With free packing bubble wrap ....??
They probably will if he books his move for January 2016. Don't think he'll be moving anytime before then, but thanks for thinking about his welfare (sarcasm off).
I really hope Obama gets a couple of votes ....
So he's not so upset when he's booted out ....
bigbenalaska - How can you talk about Obama about his socialist programs when you are on the taking end of "pure socialism" ?

Wasn't that deal made by big oil to the citizens of Alaska? Doesn't seem socialist to me.
It's not ....
Sarah put Big Oil in their place though ....
She sued them several times , and won ....
bigbenalaska
Wasn't that because her predecessor gave away a goodly portion of that fund?
My friends grandson ran for President of his sophomore class this year. They have campaign/election rules that have been developed by the student body, NOT the faculty. There are 14 rules.
Rule No. 1 - A candidate will be removed from all ballots should he/she present campaign materials containing negative and/or untrue information/images.
First, I love that this is rule number 1.
Second, if these children can hold themselves to a rule of "positive only" campaigning, why can't the adults running for POTUS?
There's probably some psychological babble somewhere that tells how people in general tend to respond more towards negativity than positivity.
Ruken,
I, too, have heard there is data out there that says folks tend to respond more towards negative ads. Sad, but true.
Ruken and Phine - you're right. Studies show that people have a greater reaction to negative advertising, but it negatively effects both sides. So each negative ad from, for example, Romney towards Obama reduces the positive view of the public towards Obama, it *also reduces* the positive view of the public towards Romney. Basically, a negative ad campaign says "I'm willing to have my positive rating drop 5 points if it means that my enemy's will drop 10 points..." Romney is used to people disliking him - his only chance is to try to convince the public to dislike Obama a little bit more...
Predicted and expected, the liberal "hope and change" campaign starts in the gutter and heads down from there:
If you hear it on MSNBC, it probably came from the devious mind of David Axelrod. The avowed socialist Lawrence O'Donnell last night :
"Now part of Romney's religion problem is that he's a part of a new religion. Established religions like Judaism, which is about 4,000 years old, and Christianity, which is about 2,000 years old, don't easily warm up to new religions like Romney's, which is only 182 years old," Lawrence O'Donnell said on his MSNBC show last night after the former Massachusetts governor swept the three primary states.
"Mormonism was created by a guy in upstate New York in 1830 when he got caught having sex with the maid and explained to his wife that God told him to do it. Forty-eight wives later, Joseph Smith's lifestyle was completely sanctified in the religion he invented to go with it. Which Mitt Romney says he believes," he also said.
Bonus MSNBC snippet:
"Orrin Hatch said something, I want your reaction to. He's predicting that President Obama is going to use Romney's Mormon faith against him in the general election. Can you see that? Can you see it in any ads? Will it appear it in any DNC or Super PAC ads?"
Debbie Wasserman Schultz: "That is just preposterous. I mean, this -- that suggestion is utter nonsense"...[though his mouthpieces on MSNBC will, eh?]
I'm still waiting for those golden shields Smith claimed he had to be found, or for any anecdotal evidence to prove Jesus ever set foot on this continent.
But it won't happen.
Too bad. If you don't want your nutty religious beliefs to be an issue, don't make them an issue.
Super PACs are independent of the candidate and can't cooridinate their message, so a candidate can't say what a Super PAC will or won't do.
Religion should never be a topic. However, the Republicans-radical right have been throwing this crap at the President for years. So, Flip Romney had better put his big boy pants on and stop his crying, because things are going to get rough.
Sam and you are eagerly awaiting a visit from the Easter Bunny Sunday, aren't you?
As usual with Bob in VA he left out the why of Lawrence O'Donnell's report about the history of Mormonism.
Seems ole' Mitt accused President Obama of developing a "Secular Theology" during his "Obama is waging a war on religion" bashing tirade yesterday.
Maybe Mitt should explain to us what a Secular Theology is and what is its history.
So, Bob in VA tell us why you left out the reasoning behind O'Donnell's comments last night?
Do try at least to be truthful in your diatribe, which we know is difficult for Republicans to do since it requires an acknowledgement of the facts in their totality.
Job1
No one was talking about religion until one of you liberals brought it in from left field.
Bob in Virginia - but you're so used to the gutter since that is the only place you hang out and your lies and stupid rhetoric show it. So, I'm guessing you're most comfortable in the gutter.
Job1 - Bob isn't going to explain anything because he doesn't understand what he would have to explain - kinda like Rick-312779.
Actually, no one was talking about religion until the GOP accused Obama of being a Muslim. No president since JFK was hassled because of his religion, and for JFK it was different. People knew he was Catholic; they trusted his word. They didn't even trust Obama. They didn't even trust his birth certificate. And to ANYONE who thinks we should see Obama's Harvard grades, I think that after questioning his eligibility for office (unprecedented) and his personal beliefs, we should let him off the hook on grades. And I highly doubt that any school, much less Harvard, would nominate some average schmuck as cum laude.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
'Unfocused' and 'partisan'? These are Romney's critiques of a President who saved the car industries, created jobs with the stimulus package (that would have gotten more infrastructure done if not for Republican Susan Collins) and offered a 'Grand Bargain' to John Boehner to reduce the deficit over ten years (and was rebuffed). Oh yeah, and the stick market is back to pre-2008 levels.
I truly hope the Israelis don't attack Iran so that our economy can continue to improve even more dramatically under this unfocused and partisan President.
saved the car industry?...are you referring to the bribe he gave the UAW in bailing out GM?....GM should have gone into bankruptcy and emerged a leaner meaner company...now GM is still being run by the management that lead them to the brink of ruin and they are still producing crappy cars.....obama is awful....ANYONE BUT obama IN NOVEMBER!
If GM had gone into bankruptcy, none of the American car companies, including Ford, would exist today. Ford was FOR the auto bailout and they weren't even part of it.
Yes GM is obviously doing terrible which is why they are posting record profits.
Your logic is astounding.
shoulda, woulda, coulda. You forget one teeny, tiny, little problem, there is no evidence that guaranteed a leaner meaner company after bankruptcy. In fact, most say they would have shut the doors and gone completely out of business.
Job1
In 2007 the Dow Jones exceeded 14,000. We are still a ways from that and now it appears that the market is taking another dive.
And the "Grand Bargain". Do you mean the promised spending cuts in exchange for definite tax increases. We have been through that before to only see those promises disappear once the democrats got what they wanted.
Rick-312779 - the DOW finally got back over 13000. It will take time to go back over 14,000 but it is headed in the right direction. And, as anyone who knows the market can tell you, there will be many ups and downs along the way.
romney is being polite......"hide and seek"?....obama is a flat out liar, distorter, and a divider........he panders to the lowest denominator for anyone stupid enough to vote for him....ANYONE BUT obama IN NOVEMBER!
Spoken like a true McCain/Palin supporter.
Fox viewers will believe anything.
"ANYONE BUT obama IN NOVEMBER!"
Really, mcpaddywackjob....must you constantly embarrass yourself with your support for Charles Manson for president?
K2mn
That is not true. We definitely don't believe the pack of lies you liberals are trying to foist on the rest of the country.
Now Romney can continue his BARRAGE of LIES and his RE-INVENTION of who President Obama is. To INVENT a Person to the Public no one knows WITH TOTAL LIES is another.
Attack Policies all you want to show the people you can do it better. So Far every proposal Romney comes up with FAVORS the Rich.
I want Romney to tell us more about his Mormonism and What he truly believes and stands for to be a Mormon, since Romney is good at trying to Tell us about President Obama's Religion.” I ALSO WANT TO SEE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE!
Since Romney thinks Paul Ryan's Budget is the "Marvelous" Here is what we can look forward to from a Romney Presidency Folks!
Ryan and the Republicans in the House are going to do as much DAMAGE as they Can because now that some VOTERS EYES have been opened about how DESTRUCTIVE GOP/TEA are and will be to PERSONAL Freedoms, with the ONE BIG EXCEPTION -GUNS.
Romney and Republicans Fear mongering the people with Big Government in your lives, yet they are USING AS MUCH BIG GOVERNMENT as they can while they are in Power to HURT ALL of the People TO GIVE MORE Power TO the Rich and Corporations.
Romney has no problem with Republicans using BIG GOVERNMENT Tactics TO TAKE : Women's Health Rights, COMING between Women and their Doctors. Criminalizing Doctors, Worker Rights, VOTER SUPPRESSION, Teachers, Fire , and eroding Police Department's PROTECTION of the Public at Large by voting in THE MOST RIDICULOUS GUN LAWS in any civilized Country.
That is OK by Republican Standards. President Obama's Big Government is going to harm you more. I can only hope the Voters are a little more SANER in November
Hey Talkingpoints, your rant has WAY TOO MANY CAPITAL LETTERS in it. Also, it's full of left wing propaganda. Do you have any original thoughts to contribute?
NO DO YOU?
Save what's left of America ....
Obama out in 2012 ....
Save America by keeping President Obama in office.
Obama-Biden 2012
You left out ....out in ....
Obama out in 2012 ....
Obama-Biden 2012
The only choice for a Great America.
If record high debt and deficit are great ....
Beats the he-- out of standing in a line for a bit of food & no work for ANYONE! Where the rich still get all they want with their gold.I don't want another extremely wealth Bush in the oval office,We all know the republicans trickle down doesn't work & i think President Obama has done pretty good seeing what he got handed & we plan on voting for him again.
Obama will be voted in - the GOP ruined this country and continue to ruin it. They are only for the rich.
SB, the Democraps started the failure of the housing industry, not the repubs. The democraps created a welfare state, not the repubs. The democraps passed a health care bill that no one had read, not the repubs. Obama believes he can do anything he pleases, with no regard to the constitution or law. I would vote for Deputy Dawg over Obama, and there are MANY people like me; I believe there are enough of them to send him and his group of left wing entitlement-selling cronies out to pasture.
Oh yeah Job1 Obama is so great. TRIES to run the governmet with no budget. His way to solve problems is to throw the tax payers money at it. Almost every scientist and expert said that solar power needs another 15 years to become efective as the current panels are not efficient. So he throws 3/4 of a billion at one company who goes bankrupt in a few years. Pays off the auto industry(except Ford) instead of doing say an audit to fix the problems. His croony Holder allows and promotes the sale of arms to Mexico and then lies about it. He also just continues to run a crony capitalism system, but oh yeah he really cares about the people. Makes no effort what so ever to address the massive growing debt of this country. He lied about getting uss out of the war. Yeah were out of Iraq but that was already set in place before he took office. He also 1 st year in office orders a massive buildup of troops in Afghanistan. If his Obama Care is so great then why does he not have to have it along with the House or Senate. Why? Because it sucks and they are to good for that
And imagine the left talks about the kool aid others are drinking
You retardicans are toast in November and you know it. Most everything you said was caused by retardican obstruction and their desire for a power grab and tax cuts for the 1%. It is understandable you are too stupid to understand that. It is expected from a retardican minion.
To Fishman -
Obamacare is based on the federal plan. The part that was not included was public option. Public option was not included because the Republican would not vote for the plan.
