*** The writing is on the wall: Last night’s GOP primary contests didn’t contain any new revelations: Mitt Romney won a contested state in Wisconsin, but it wasn’t pretty (the margin was just five points, 43%-38%, despite his endorsements and clear financial edge); he racked up a HUGE proportion of the delegates (so far picking up 83 to Rick Santorum’s nine -- that’s right, Santorum couldn’t even win 10% of avail delegates last night); and the demographics told the big story (about 40% in Wisconsin were evangelicals, below the 50% of higher mark in contests that Santorum has won). Given that we didn’t learn anything new in Wisconsin -- or in Maryland or DC -- the writing is on the wall: Romney, unless the extraordinary occurs, is going to be the Republican presidential nominee. And Santorum, unless there’s a miracle, cannot win. Here’s NBC’s delegate count: Romney 573, Santorum 212, Gingrich 137, Paul 34.

*** Santorum’s no-win situation: So the question is no longer IF Romney is going to be the nominee; rather, it’s WHEN Santorum will bow out. And in his speech last week, the former Pennsylvania senator made it clear that he’s still in this race. “Pennsylvania and half the other people in this country have yet to be heard,” he said in his concession speech last night, per NBC’s Morgan Parmet. “And we're going to go out and campaign here and across this nation to make sure that their voices are heard in the next few months.” Even Romney, in his victory address, acknowledged that the GOP race was moving to Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New York (on April 24). Here’s the thing: Had Romney won Wisconsin by 10 points -- instead of five -- Santorum right now might be more open to exiting the race. Nevertheless, in the next 72 hours, he will hear plenty of voices telling him to get out. After all, demographically, Pennsylvania is a state that Santorum should lose if it weren’t his home state: It’s a combination of Illinois (Philly suburbs = Chicago ‘burbs) and Ohio. And even if he does win it, pundits will dismiss the victory because he won his home state. It’s a no-win situation.
*** He drives me crazy … and I can’t help myself: President Obama’s speech assailing the Ryan budget plan achieved one thing for certain yesterday: It drove the conservative intelligentsia crowd nuts. Townhall.com wrote: "Today we witnessed something truly remarkable. Barack Obama managed to out-do himself by uncorking what very well may have been the most dishonest, demagogic, and bitterly partisan speech of his presidency." The responses from the elected Republicans, while not QUITE as vitriolic, were similarly worded and focused. Bottom line: Their reaction seemed to be: How dare the president campaign against us!!!! And as we pointed out yesterday, Obama isn’t necessarily running against Mitt Romney; he’s running against the Republican Party brand -- and making sure that Romney owns that brand. In fact, Romney’s biggest challenge over the next two or three months will be for him to differentiate himself from the brand. There’s been a lot of focus of late on how damaged Romney has become in this process (his high negatives with indies, etc). But we’ve noticed a larger trend: The brand of the GOP is what’s been damaged; Romney may simply be collateral damage. And this is why he has to figure out a way to either improve the GOP’s brand or differentiate himself. Which can he achieve?
*** Romney’s chance to respond: Speaking of Obama’s speech yesterday, Romney today gets to deliver an address at the very same venue -- before newspaper editors in DC -- at 11:45 am ET. And while Romney hit the president during his victory speech last night (“Under this president's watch, more Americans have lost their jobs than during any other period since the Depression”), many political observers will be closely watching to see how he responds to Obama’s remarks from yesterday, as well as how responds to the three questions he’ll get from the audience. Remember, the day after primary wins haven’t always been kind to Romney and his campaign, and this speech before America’s newspaper editors has taken on more importance because of how the president chose to use the venue yesterday…
*** Yesterday’s two extraordinary speeches: Yet as we begin turning to the general election, yesterday was a pretty remarkable day. We saw Obama lay out his party’s indictment of the GOP and its governing philosophy: “Ronald Reagan, who, as I recall, is not accused of being a tax-and-spend socialist, understood repeatedly that when the deficit started to get out of control, that for him to make a deal he would have to propose both spending cuts and tax increases. Did it multiple times. He could not get through a Republican primary today.” And also yesterday, we saw Romney lay out his indictment of Obama and the Democrats: “In Barack Obama’s government-centered society, government spending will always increase because…there’s no reason to stop it. There’s always someone who is entitled to something more, and who will vote for anyone who will give them something more.” So yesterday was a day that people will be able to look back on and see what the two distinct economic visions are for the country.
*** On the trail, per NBC’s Adam Perez: After his speech in DC today, Romney campaigns in Pennsylvania… Santorum also is in the Keystone State, hitting Carnegie, Holidaysburg, and Mechanicsburg… Gingrich is in North Carolina… And Paul remains out in California.
*** Scott Brown embraces Obama: It’s not every day you see this kind of press release from a Republican senator: “Two major pieces of legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) will be signed into law by President Obama at White House ceremonies this week. As the first to introduce both the STOCK Act and crowdfunding legislation in the Senate, Senator Brown was invited and will attend both signing ceremonies. ‘I’m honored to receive these invitations from President Obama and I look forward to standing next to him as he signs these bills into law.’” So we’ve seen likely Democratic opponent Elizabeth Warren star in Obama’s campaign documentary. And now Brown is shouting from the mountain top that he’ll be standing next to Obama at signing ceremonies this week. Brown has two major hurdles to overcome if he’s going to win a full term: One, he’s trying to win as a Republican in a blue state during a presidential year. And two, how does he avoid getting defined by Romney? Well, we see what Brown is TRYING to do, have photo-ops with Romney’s opponent. Here’s betting we see Brown use his appearances at these signing ceremonies in TV ads while trying like mad to avoid appearances with Romney.

From the latest Gallup, 40% conservative, 21% liberal, 35% moderate. Those numbers haven't changed for years.
Liberals have been secretly hoping Mitt would win, all I can say is be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. I've been watching them both speak and from what I've seen Romney will wipe the floor with Obama.

The problem with politicians is they are mostly just people, perhaps a bit more charismatic and like most people would, they suppose that when you check their box, you are for them. Most of us do not like to think that many of the voters vote against the one they think is the worst.
Leroy you think you will vote for romney, I don't blame you for thinking obama is bad, he is, but romney is cut from the same bolt of cloth. When you consider that obama is not nearly as ignorant as he was, miserable as he is, he might be the better choice. Neither one is qualified, so why not vote against both. As lonereb said there is not a box for 'none of the above' but a vote for any party other than democrat/republican, even though they have no chance of winning, won't make you nauseous and you can look at yourself in the mirror, sleep good at night and just maybe, the morons will get the message.

That's a lie. Romney has actually created jobs while Obama has lost them. Unemployment is still higher than when he took office.
In the last three plus years, the rich have gotten way richer while the poor and middle class have been decimated. That's all on Obama's watch. When you joke about no shovel ready jobs and brag you have more people on food stamps than ever, when you declare war on small business and bail out big business, you are no champion of the working man.

Cspan not censored by either side. It is really interesting to find our senators and congressmen are not saying what either the liberal or the conservative media say they are. Most but not all of them went up in my opinion when I started listening to them myself. The media does some interesting editing of what they say.
Troll, any serious plan wil hurt, the problem is thinking we can cut the deficit without pain. We are spending 40% more than we take in which means the budget has to be cut 40% or taxes have to be raised by that amount. The inconvenient truth is the middle class is where the bulk of the money is. Sure there are millionaires and a few billionaires, but the bulk of wealth is with the millions in the middle class brackets.
The stupid mistake liberals make is thinking they can just ding the rich and the problem is solved. If you think so, you are math challenged, the deficit problem is way worse than that.
Also it is easy for the rich to pick up and leave, taking their money with them, hundreds already have. I'm not rich and even I could do it, we are in an international, wired, world where wealth can be transefered at the speed of light.
I think Obama has been a decidedly mediocre President. Having said that, there is absolutley no way I vote for Mittens. Actually I did my 42 years in the work force and my knees gave out. So climbing onto 12ft high pipes got to be insane and I retired. So yes I am on the net most of the day. I will give y'all a break April 13-15 motorcycle rallies are more fun than you are.

Pretty sick of all the He Said...She Said crap that is flying across the isles these days... The one thing that really chaps my a$$ though is how the left can have a damn thing to say about any budget ideas that are thrown on the table at this point! I mean really... until you come up with some ideas to bring to the table I would suggest you do more thinking and less complaining. It has been almost 4 years since you guys brought anything to the table at all... which is a basic function of your office! And you wanna call the right "The Party of No"..... Really! The ideas that are on the table may not be the best thing since sliced bread... and trust me they are not!... Don't get that twisted as an endorsement of the Ryan Budget.... but hell at least the guy brought something to the table instead of just showing up with folded arms and open mouths! If you are not trying to come up with solutions.... maybe you are the problem!
Considering the democratic controlled senate has violated the law for three years by not passing a budget at all. At least the house passes a budget even if you aren't thrilled with it thereby keeping within the law mandated by the constitution.

Right to work means for less money. States that have adopted this Republican insanity earn on average $5500. less per year. Union and Non Union workeres with health covearge either goes away or is so poor it isn't worth buying (Republican health care if your sick, die to bad). Romney already made that statement!
Work place saftey decreases increasing work place accidents.
States that have adopted right to work laws have lower education achievement rates less people graduate from High School.
If you make less than $200,000/ year this party is not going to do anything positive for your quality of life this party has gone too far to the right. It only represents big business interest.

Nice union spin. I've heard nothing but complaints from people who are in a union. I live in a right to work state and we are actually working in great numbers here and doing just fine. We aren't protesting like the idiots at the colleges in California. They want free education but they also want high wages and great benefits for all university employees (they don't understand the connection).
Lots of complaints about the Ryan Budget, but the Dems have proposed none since Obama took office. And the status quo is driving our country into so much debt that it will be bankrupt in 2027 according to the congressional budget office. Is that what we want to leave our kids? Get behing the FairTax. Educate yourselves with the is Bipartisan bill and approach - go to FairTax.org - its easy to understand and progressive as well.
What astounds me is the Republican argument that the Dems have not passed a budget since Obama took office. Talk about what WOULD be a monumental waste of his time with a Republican-led House of Representatives!!!! Hasn't a single Republican ever heard the phrase: Pick your battles? Obama has done a splendid job of picking the battles he has had a chance of winning. Why would he waste his time on non-winnable goals and partisan ideologies that he doesn't believe are in the best interests of the middle class and poor in this country. (BTW ... the same argument applies to the tax code issue.) I believe he'll address those issues after he is reelected, and I hope he gives his middle finger to the Republicans and their obsolete, 20th century ideologies.

I've always felt that Icky Ricky is the "Sarah Palin" of this Republican election cycle. The sad thing is that Romney is only SLIGHTLY more palatable to listen to on the stump. As an independent, I have to say I haven't voted for a Republican since Reagan. And even Reagan at this point would be considered a centrist Democrat, much like Obama. I don't even recognize the Republican Party any more, and don't understand why it has shifted so far to the right. How can they POSSIBLY believe this is a winning strategy for them?

OK Bob ... the failure of leadership is NOT Obama's. The failure is in a partisan Congress that the American electorate voted for. The failure is in gerrymandered voting districts, bought elections, and powerful special interest groups (lobbies).
