Romney wins Wisc., moves one step closer to nomination

Demographics proved to be destiny once again for Mitt Romney, who is one big step closer to wrapping up the Republican presidential nomination.

NBC News has declared Romney the winner in Wisconsin. He won 42-38 percent over Rick Santorum with 99 percent of the vote in, and familiar patterns emerged that led to his win, according to exit polls.

Santorum faced an uphill battle going into Wisconsin because, despite its blue-collar voters, Wisconsin lacked the evangelicals that have fueled his insurgent campaign. And he only won those voters by a narrow margin.

Romney also went beyond his traditional base, winning with Tea Party supporters (48-37 percent), those making below $100,000 (40-38 percent), non-college graduates (42-38 percent), and tying with very conservatives (43-43 percent).

Just 38 percent of Republican primary voters Tuesday said they were born-again or evangelical Christians in Wisconsin – the same number that said so in 2008. But Santorum won them by just a 43-39 percent margin.

Santorum has not won in a state with less than 57 percent evangelical population. The average evangelical population in states Santorum has won was 72 percent.

By contrast, the average evangelical population in states where Romney won was 36 percent, about where it was in Wisconsin Tuesday.

Voters were more downscale and blue collar than in typical Romney wins. States where he has won averaged 50 percent college grads and 33 percent making more than $100,000. In Wisconsin, 43 percent had a college degree and 26 percent said they made more than $100,000 a year. But both numbers were up from 2008.

Romney’s biggest margin was on one question. Voters said the one quality that mattered most in deciding how they would vote was being able to defeat President Obama. Almost one-in-four (36 percent) said that was their top priority, and overwhelmingly, they picked Romney by a whopping 68-23 percent margin.

I am not a mathematician but isn't 36 percent slightly MORE than one-in-three???

Blaming Obama for the furious digging out of a disaster his predecessor got us into?? This is called the Bush financial meltdown that Obama has spent 3 years digging us out of. 10 years of Bush tax cuts really prevented the old meltdown, so now it's time for Romney tax breaks, give me a break.

Actually it was the democrats that passed the bill that Carter signed giving those who could not afford a loan the ability to get one anyway. It was Clintoon that mandated the banks give those loans to help the poor. It was a financial crisis yo-yo. That and a debt crisis that Obama is now hiding with short term 2% loans which will end as soon as the interest rates go up, putting us in the position of Greece. Forget politics, forget your job and educate yourself abit on what goes on before we break our way of life. Romney has the business savvy to bring us out of our pending bankruptcy. Remember Perot saying no business could survive the way government spends and borrows. Government is for the protection of the people not destroying our capitalist way of life.

REMEMBER that before 9/11 the economy was strong. America's enemy literally crashed wall street . It is a bloody miracle we didn't collapse completely following that horrific attack. I don't agree with all of Pres Bush's decisions, but I cannot stand by and be silent about everyone ignoring the true cause of the financial decline we have all suffered. We were attacked, our economy crashed, we stumbled and faltered and stayed alive. We didn't spring back in the manner we would have preferred, however, as bad as some of Bush's choices may have been, Obama's have made things incredibly worse. It's time to stop sugar-coating and pretending that things are great......they just aren't. Try to think as Americans instead of left or right. Try to recognize reality instead if idealism. Stop being foolish and be wise. This administration may have had good intentions, but IT DID NOT WORK. They want four more years. If you keep doing what you've been doing, you'll keep getting what you've been getting. We can not afford it. Please put the country first and forget stubborn pride. Stop the bleeding now. Trite, but are you better off now? Is the country? The truth is simply.....no.

Obama is running with his tail between his legs.

He is? I'm relatively confident he's enjoying the show. After all, how often can we have the pleasure of watching "conservatives" rend one another's flesh for the sake of having the prime opportunity to be smoked in the presidential election that is upcoming?

Check out how much $$ obama has spent and how much his superpac spent,,,don't be blind to the fact that they all have superpacs.

This is the primary sticking point: they all have 'em. With that leveling of of the playing field, why would you call out Obama for spending the same cash Romney & Co. are?

Obama has had his 4 years and what'd he do???

Actually, quite a bit. If you're middle class (like most of us) and paying attention to the broad-spectrum of news (as so few do), you'd realize that you're a lot better off than you were during Bush II.

Not that B.O. is without fault -- he most certainly is. Still ... what is precisely that you like about ANY of the "republicans" being fielded .. other than, "they ain't that black fella."

Maybe he should do his job and then I might actually vote for him and stop fulltime campaigning.

That's a f*ckall statement. You know it. The day you vote [D] is the day I shuffle off millions in my workers' pensions to an offshore account.

Read: NEVER.

You elected a dude who never had a real job, ever.

How does Mitch or Rick differ? I'm curious ...

A harvard boy who's wife made millions in healthcare firing people.(that's obama if you're confused)

You're familiar with the academic accolades of the "right" wing contenders, right? You realize your hypocrisy, then?

Do share with the class how your post isn't yet another boring tirade solely based on party lines.

This is called the Bush financial meltdown that Obama has spent 3 years digging us out of.

Don't you think it should be called the Carter/Clinton meltdown? After all it was they who, along with the Democrats in congress, pushed through the Community Reinvestment Act . In case you've forgotten, this is the piece of legislation that forced banks to extend housing loans to people who clearly couldn't afford them and ultimately led to the meltdown in 2008. As for Obama "digging us out"? He spent his first year passing a trillion dollar stimulus plan that didn't work because two thirds of it was just more pork barrel spending. His second year was spent passing the unconstitutional Affordable Care Act. And the third year he has spent trying to convince everyone that his first two years were a success. How did this "dig us out"?

The once proud GOP is going to nominate a bald faced liar. Good luck, guys, but I think its going to take a while to live this one down. Arguably not as damaging as the W. Bush Administration to your party, but still pretty bad when you nominate someone even your own party members don't have any trust in.

There are a lot less jobs in the mortgage industry that will not come back for
decades (if ever) along with many other jobs that grow obsolete every year due
      to technology advances.

Money was needed to prevent a great depression rather than a recession.

Yeah, Romney's a real barn burner. If he keeps up this momentum, he might even break the 50% mark in the rest of the primaries.

If all the delegates had been awarded proportionately, his team wouldn't be claiming a victory yet, but the game is rigged for him to win it regardless. The mainstream GOP will ensure that there is no brokered convention and they will have a big part in the VP selection process.

You could say the same thing about Democrat voters. Problem with them is they let their juvenile pride and ego prevent them from admitting they made a mistake in voting for a creation of the media and pop culture. President Obama is one of the biggest liars to come down the pike and reside in the White House in a long time. If you want I can provide you a list. I can just imagine the lot of you being in a position to hire the best qualified candidate for a critical job you needed filled at a fortune 100 company and picking the guy who's only experience was having gone to school and done some volunteer work because you think he's cool over the guy who's actually held a job and lists his easily verifiable accomplishments in similar roles with other companies. What you'd end up with is a unprecedented (Obama loves to use that word) disaster. Think I'm wrong? Look what's occupying the White House right now.

As far as Romney, congratulations. You've worked hard for 4 years to get the nomination by running from the media and screwing up every important issue under the sun.

You really need to study more. This President of the United States job ain't easy. You have to be pretty bright when meeting with leaders from all over the world. They can smell a snake a mile away. So can't we here in the USA.

                And,

Bonaparte abdicated in April. This April is the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, as well as the 100th anniversary of the opening of Fenway Park (beating the New York Highlanders). Thos. Jefferson and James Monroe were born in April. Slavery ended in DC in 1862. April saw the deaths of Lincoln, FDR, Mussolini, Hitler, MLK & RFK and Nixon. April is when the Revolutionary War began, the Civil War began and the Civil War ended. US declared war on Germany in 1917. WWII invasion of Okinawa began. Ponce de Leon discovered Florida. First Pony Express. President Truman signed Marshall Plan into law. Jackie Robinson played his first game in the majors. Apollo 13 was in April. Earth Day is in April.

George Washington took office as the first President of the United States.

                Very historical month.

Maybe so, but she is as guilty as the others. Our politicians, and the media have their own agenda, and the American people, be damned.

There is a strong divide in this country, and I fear its getting worse. Very sad indeed.

The republican party of years gone by is no more. The far right crazies have taken over the once grand ole party and turn it into a joke a minute party. Just look at Palin. There are many former republican that will be voting for President Obama because all the lies, flip-flopping and just out right crazy ideas that the Republican Party now wastes time and money on. They voted against their own ideas. The American people can see that the republican do not care about the middle class only the rich. Trickle-down economics has failed.

Now say what you want but there is a race problem when it comes to President Obama. The level of disrespect shown to him so far is truly amazing. And coming up with lame excuses as to not admit this is about the color of his skin is just so funny.

Never have the American people so disrespected their President like what is going on now. And yes this is about race. There is no other reason. The birther issue is a joke and everyone with half a brain knows that if he was not an American citizen, none of the republican leaders or democratic leaders would have allow him to be sworn in. If McCain, Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy, McConnell, Ryan, Romney, Santorum, Gingrich and Paul accepts him as President why is this still trying to be an issue. It is not. The governor of Hawaii Linda Lingle a republican and the Hawaii director of the State Department of Health has both certified that he was born there. Yet you birthers want the official in Hawaii to violate their state laws to satisfy you. If you birthers don’t believe these people then why are you not screaming for them to be voted out? Having to show his college transcripts, birth certificate, school records are just lame excuses. President Obama has proven all he needs to prove to the leaders in Washington from both parties. If you do not believe these republican leaders then that only proves nothing will convince you of the truth. Believe the lies if that makes you feel like you are not a racist. All of you racist have been looking for other lame excuse to challenge him so you don't have to look yourselves in the face and admit you are a racist.

This current economic situation we are in took many years to get where we are at. You all expect President Obama to fix it overnight. That is impossible. Unlike the Republican leaders who will follow along with anything their leadership says, the Democrats have not. They have addressed the needs of the people within their districts and if their voters did not like something that the President or Congress was trying to do then they voted against it. So the super majority issue is a non-player. Democrats do not have robots that follow everything the Koch brother says.

I am a moderate independent. I believe in having my guns but I also believe women should be able to choose what happens with their own bodies. If men can their insurance pay for Viagra and the insurance should also pay for birth control.

You can get any poll to say anything depending on how you word the questions. Most people that disagree with the current Affordable Health Care Act wanted a single payer option in it. Instead of the Republicans trying to work with the Democrats to pass this law, they did everything in their power to try and derail it. Why, because they are hell bent on not having anything get done for the American people while President Obama is in office.

And for why the race issue keeps coming up, this is about President Obama’s race plain and simple. There are more voters out here that believe in "Anybody but the Republican Clowns" than there for anybody but Obama. The Republican Party is no more. It should call itself the crazy party because of all the crazy mouthpieces they have.

Ret_MSgt, great post!! Let's all not forget that the republicans supported single payer AND the individual mandate in the 90's, which is where Romney got the idea to do it in Ma. This is 100% about not allowing the President to succeed in an effort to win back the presidency. Poisioning WE THE PEOPLE, in an effort to make a point. I will not say that these efforts are one sided, but the right is doing a lot more than the left in this case. We need to put term limits in office, and eliminate all benefits to them also. Then, only people who WANT to try to help will run for office, not those who want to gain more financially. THink about it, we are paying these people a lot of money to do absolutely nothing. It's sickening!

Romney better watch out! The entire Obama clan is here in the US. His uncle has been living in MA since 1992 illegally and was arrested for DUI but the good State decided to give him back his license to drive. He also has an aunt here illegally; she said that the US owes her welfare and it is her right. Plus, Obama senior fathered numerous children with numerous females of all races.

Don't worry though, the world has to be more tolerant and everyone will be taken care of because Obama the President will provide all that is needed. Rich folks will have to pony up more because you know there are only less that 50% of us that pay taxes.

Anony Mous1, what a pack of pointless drivel. What does this have to do with the conversation?

BTW, that 50% of the population that you say doesn't pay taxes only gets 13% of the total income for the nation. That's not much to split up among half the nation is it? The top 1% takes more of the income than that whole group.

                          #2.25 - Wed Apr 4, 2012 12:37 PM EDT

You obviously will not get it! You don't see how wealth redistribution is a fundamental departure from our founding principle. I ask that you take a look at Zimbabwe; they use to be the bread basket of Africa and the government did that redistribution experiment and now they are all starving. This is ingrained in Obama. However, you would not able to link what I am talking about.

Now let me ask this question: How come the 50% who don't pay any taxes only get 13% of the total income? Is there a conspiracy? I am an immigrant and like all immigrants we come here and have to work to achieve our goals.

Let's go a step further and talk about what exactly we need more revenues for? Is there a welfare program that we need to expand? Is the revenue going to pay down the deficit? You know, here in Massachusetts, we took some of the money from the 1 trillion stimulus and rebuilt a bridge that in the old days was used by horse carriages and was hardly used. It wasn't broken down or anything. But we spent millions rebuilding it because we had the money and we had to spend it.

100% of the people in the USA pay taxes. Even illigals lol. when you purchase something = taxes; when you work = taxes; major highways = taxes (tolls) what is this nonsense.

Also, some said Romney saved the Olympics?? do you know that the tax payer saved the Olympics because the Romney team could not find privet investors so the govt stepped in? And he had the nerve to pork barrel the govt bail out of the games to build privet roads to his friends in the area. Obama is thinking the GOP primary participants for that little bit of info lol

Hmm, interesting point, carpenter7. But I don't think that the Republican/TP Inc. mind is clever enough to plan something like that. The downside is that a TEA Party candidate on the ticket may motivate them to come out and vote in droves. In close contests, this could tip a local, House , or Senate election to the Republican/TP Inc. party . . . not a pleasant thought.

Hmmmmmmm, was Obama president in 2008 ? Every thing I have read about the economic crash, bank failures, and massive drop in employment happened before the election of November 08. I call bullchit on Romney.

Romney’s biggest margin was on one question. Voters said the one quality that mattered most in deciding how they would vote was being able to defeat President Obama. Almost one-in-four (36 percent) said that was their top priority, and overwhelmingly, they picked Romney by a whopping 70-21 percent margin.

So, when President Obama wins this November, will the Republican/TP Inc. party actually try focusing on helping to govern? They won't have to have the single goal of defeating President Obama, anymore. Or will they act like petulant little children, refusing to cooperate while just sitting there and pouting?

I see the House/Senate fights, then look at my 3 kids (NB, 2, 4) and see a big difference: I can send my kids to Time Out or to take a nap when they throw their temper fits! Really, it works! Wish I could try it on some of those polititions who veto things just because XYZ suggested it, never mind whether it has merit or not!

To be fair, both parties do it, but it is really showing this election and this past administration period.

The good news is that in his second term Obama won't have to go through the "Let's play nice" routine as he did earlier in his Presidency. Until the Tea Party congress people are sent packing there will be no significant progress from either party. It is unfair to say the Boehmer wasn't trying to pass some legislation-the Tea Party people blocked him and frightened him into neutral. The grover norquist pledge should be highlighted as a completely asinine lobbyist ploy that violates the oath of office of congress people. Norquist needs to be outed as a highly paid tool of special interests. A Tea Party congressman like joe Walsh is a great example as to why they all need to go. Some appear to be mentally unbalanced and several are just plainly unqualified tools of monied interests they don't even realize elected them. Start with Gov. Scott Walker-he can be first.

american, it's pretty hard to unify a group, when half of them have the goal of making you fail. it's not Obama's fault that he couldn't work with the Republican side of Congress, it was the Republican's that wouldn't work with him.

The Republicans idea of compromise is, "we got 95% of what we wanted" (remember that statement from the leader of the house?)

Resistance is futile. Soon fellow Republicans, you'll all be gagging on my sandwiches. A greasy conglomeration of false hope, despair and incompetence spiced with hatred and served on a stale roll of warmed over platitudes.

Why is it when you're watching Romney give a speech, he always looks as if he swallowed a canary and is trying to spit out the feathers. Maybe it's fear that lightening will strike him as he utters one lie after another.

Ya, Romney's the ONLY one that bends the truth. Our political system has failed our country, yet idiots don't care - as only their agenda matters to them, not their country.

Obama was great giving speeches back when he was campaigning. Now he can barely put coherant sentances together. The night he was elected at that big celebration in Grant Park he looked like a deer in the headlights; he still does and now we're playing for keeps and he can't handle it.

Still confused, I googled Romney win and got 75.9m hits, a good sign, but Romney lose got 123m hits. Hey Rob, according to you, Google tells all. Obviously, Romney is a loser.

I agree completely Carpenter7. After tonight's results all of the others should just pack it in. Although an earlier article stated that Paul has already made plans to continue campaigning in TX and CA. But I believe Paul is actually still trying to make a case for Libertarians and not the GOP. The GOP was just a way to get national attention.

Gingrich has been washed ashore and is beginning to rot like a beached whale. Santorum can only garner second best at this point and is wasting every-ones time if he continued campaigning tomorrow.

Perry with his mishaps, Cain with his relationships, Bachman and her misquotes, Santorum saying what's in his heart, Newt and his moon colonies, Paul and his gold standard, and who can forget Romney. Guy says one thing one time, and says the complete opposite 3 hours later. I never thought presidential elections can be this funny.

Rommney would be a failure as a president like every republican he is too far socially to the right to do any good. By insisting marriage should be between a man and a woman he pissed me off to the point where I don't care about anything else I don't care what his stance is on the economy he is so hostile to the lgt community that I am not voting for him. No woman in her right mind should vote for him either or any minority. I'd also like to see him try to defend sending US jobs over seas with his vulture capitalisim answer HE CAN'T. You cannot claim to be able to create jobs in US WHEN YOU SENT JOBS OVERSEAS to make a quick buck.

Is Obama perfect no if he were gays/lesbians would be able to get married across US via a national law gitmo would be closed and everyone there would have had a civilian trial, oh and Chenney would have been sent to prison forever for treason over Valorie Palme. By not calling Rush out on his slut comment Rommney proved he lacks balls.

Why should My tax $$ pay for her to go out slutting. Pay for your own bloody medication. Those who don't support romney support communism and socialism. Ever read about a dude named hitler the socialist and how he dealt with GLAdds? read up....if you let dictator Obama get more power and some other nutty commie gets in who wants to make laws regardless of the public watch out. Romney is a good dad, husband, lifelong godfearing man who respects life, and know how to fix the bad economy-----what has obama done in 4 years? BTW he has had a chance to change things and has not!

And you might ask someone to read you the definition of dictator. If Obama was a dictator, all the tea baggers you and your buddies forced down his throat in '10 would have been dragged out of Congress in irons and never heard from again.

Come to think of it, maybe it is too bad he isn't a dictator...

Mike - You are correct Hitler was a fascist. More precisely a member of the National Socialist Party of Germany. Fasciism was one of many forms of socialism that rose as a result of the social justice movement in the early 20th century. While it was opposed to the Communists and saw themselves as an alternative in reality their philosophies (and ultimate governance) wasn't much different. You can Google Naziism and see what their party planks were - rather enlightening.

Tiffany, remember during the 2008 campaign where Obama stated over and over again that he believed that marriage should be between one man and one woman. Of course you don't, you only hear what you want to. Look it up, what a stupid reason to be for Obama. Look at his record.

BTW I believe in marriage equality for everyone. NONE of the candidates or our current president have any intentions of changing that. It is up to the individual states.

Good, so vote for Obama again, and then MAYBE you will get gay/leisbian marriage legalized. Then you will be happily married to your homosexual partner but we will be saluting the China flag because of all the debt we will be in under Obama. I get it, you want to get married, but really is that more important than our country surviving financially? I'm not downplaying your needs and wants, but that should not be a reason you will put Pres. Obama back into office again, especially because he already hasn't done the things he has promised. What makes you think gay marriage will be legal? Risky and pretty scary if you ask me....

There sure are stupid repuke voters around, but the rest of the field is even more pathetic.

Why should Nut Gingerhead or the Pope's boy concede until lyin Willardo the Mexican Mormon Moron tax evader, bankrupter and Etch A Sketch champion proves he can win. Drain all of Willardo's funds. Get to the brokered convention. See which right wing nut can win.

Lyin Willardo may be the worst one of all. This guy has yet to provide his tax returns for the last 5 years. It should show how much he has evaded in taxes and how much unreported income he has stashed away in Cayman Island and Swiss bank accounts. He is your typical right wing thief.

There have been many rumors going around that little lyin Willardo was seen in a baby carriage in Tijuana. with a bottle of Corona Light in one hand and an Etch A Sketch in the other. The side of his carriage had the name "Little Lyin Willardo" on it. So when we see the long form of his birth certificate and it says Willardo on it and not Willard, we will know something is wrong.

Isn't it funny, that his new buddy Fox Top Trump never asked lyin Willardo for a copy of it?

What a joke. Less and less of the stupid right wing nuts come out to back lyin Willardo, the Mexican Mormon Moron tax evader and bankrupter and they rave about it. As most people know, the evangelicals consider the mormons an evil anti-christ cult. The mormons have been converting dead jewish people, without their knowledge to become mormons to enhance their religion. They baptise them when they are dead. These sick aholes were caught when they tried to convert Anne Frank to be a mormon. The Church of the Latter Day Saints has now ordered these mormon priests to cease this immediately.

These repuke dunces best bet is to bring back Herman (9Kampf) Cain, the dress slitherer. He can draft Jerry Sandusky for V.P. Who cares what they have done in the past, they are against abortion, that is all that counts.

CAIN/SANDUSKY 2012. The true repuke family values candidates.

Of course Romney won. As it has been pointed out at nauseum, Romney has not won a state in which the evangelical vote tops 50%. They republicans have been lining up behind Romney and like Gingrich, Santorum refuses to say uncle and vows to take it to the convention absent of the florr fight. To make that arguement, he needs combined with the others enough to deny Romney the prescribed delegate count for the nomination. Santorum may be running on the 2nd place philosophy that the 2nd place republican finisher gets his shot the next time around as did Romney after McCain. The problem I have is Steve Smidth. MSNBC hires him as a political analyst and all knowing of the republican party. Might I remind people and MSNBC.....HE CHOSE SARAH PALIN!!!!!!!! How is he credible as a voice of sound decision making. Just because he fessed up and called the movie Game Change true and accurate only substantiates my call for MSNBC to get rid of him. I watched him take shots at president Obama the last week when he is supposed to be giving a perspective from the right. He is still carrying water for them and his choices after the movies revelations show he was prepared to put Sarah Palin on the ticket after learning she was woefully stupid and lacking any basic knowledge demanded of high school students. He and Nicole Wallace should never be allowed to work in any political campaign or give critique of candidates.

He needs to spend one night in Guantanamo with his buddies. The next day when he came out, his ahole would be so red that he would not be able to sit on the toilet for a month.

This old crackpot needs to be in a nursing home, preferably near Guantanamo. When the men in the white coats and turbans take him out for his morning walk, he can be overheard preaching liberty to them.

How will this work out ? I can't say, but there has never been a Mormon POTUS elected.

The Man in The Sky will come to the aid of The Pope's boy and wisk him into the White House.

Can't wait for the Pope's boy Sanitarium to be president of the right wing radical cracked teanuts, the gay, rapist, pedophile catholic priests and the braindead evangelical Children of the Corn zombies. Men will no longer have to purchase condoms, as they will no longer be allowed in this country. All mens sperm must be used to create babies. Cameras will be in every bedroom. Catholic priests don't have to worry however, because, according to the testimony of former raped little boys, they don't use them.

I think Sanitarium is in desperate need of a vaginal ultrasound to find out what happed to his brains.

The Pope's first order to his boy will be to release all catholic rapist pediophile priests from prison as the Pope is running out of people to continue the process of shearing his sheep. He is running out of collection pot fillers. After all, he needs the money to fight off all of the lawsuits against the church worldwide.

His second order to RickyDickyDo will be to move the White House to Vatican City.

Smitty there is nothing slutty about having sex outside of marriage most people these days do it, this isn't the 1950s simply having sex doesn't make you a slut, and birth control is a form of medication therefore insurance should cover it and buisnesses forced to cover it what would you rather have them cover birth control or them have to shell out the extra money once she gets pregnant? Oh also birth control treats other issues as well my sister had to go on it at 13 because of her cramps and other issues. Even if he was on a plane the next day he had a chance to say something about how out of line it was and did not. Obama has tried to fix things but he's never had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, not to mention that idiot Liberman who might as well call himself a Republican who said he'd help fillabuster any actual public option for health care which would have driven down health care costs by a lot. Also how does Rommney know how to fix the economy WHEN HE SOLD US JOBS DOWN THE RIVER. That's right Baine capital dismantled US companies then sent their jobs overseas while he made a fortune on it somehow to me that doesn't show that he knows jack about fixing this country or care about it.

Also how much of a family man he is doesn't matter in the least I don't care about that he could be the best father in the world that doesn't qualify him to be president, as for god please keep religion out of public office. Very religious ones make me very nervous that they will force their version of religion down my throat, or use it in ways it was not meant to be used.

I find your argument that having sex outside of marriage isn't "slutty" curious. The American College Dictionary defines a slut as "an immoral woman." Personally, I prefer the term immoral to slut. It conveys the same idea without trying to be insulting. Of course, those on the left may argue that morals are a personal choice...I agree. However, our choices have implications far beyond our attempts to justify our actions. As a member of a free society we each take on the responsibility to contribute and protect it. This requires us to act with self-restraint for the betterment of all (including ourselves). I could go on to point out what I see as fatal flaws in the rest of your post, but I would rather comment on the underlying philosophy which I find so destructive both for you personally and for our nation. It seems to echo the sentiments of the liberal left who would circumvent the principles of personal responsibility by the elussive promise of getting something for nothing. This philosphy is not new. The ancient Roman Caesar's used it. So did Stalin and Mao. Indeed, this wanton selfishness in itself is bad enough, but it is usually aided by the seduction that government can rid us of the consequences of our bad decisions. Throughout history the adoption of this philosphy has taught us that there is no such thing as a benevolent, all powerful government who will meet our every need and take responsibility for us without exacting some price in return. Can we be so short-sighted that we cannot see the folly in such thinking?

Here is what the radical right wing cracked teanuts can do to invade Syria and not waste any of our troops.

Here is how Sister Sarah, the great American Zero, can help us invade Syria and attack the Islamists. She can be part of the invasion force.

We have to attack the Syrian government before it is too late, without putting our soldiers in harms way.

The best way is to send the right wing radical cracked teanuts over there to fight. First let Sister Sara attack from the front in her helicopter gunship where she is experienced in shooting wolves from the air with her blazing AK47, turns them into instant wolfburgers. Then get the other dunce, the flying witch from Delaware, Christine O Donnell. to attack their flanks using her rocket powered, heavily armed broomstick. Then the macho nut Rick Sanitarium can get his boss, the Pope's boys, the rapist, pedophile catholic priests to attack from the rear. John (town cryer) Bonehead and Mitch McDumbell can direct operations. Groper Nutquist could be the sniper, as all he has to do is lift the lid from his trash can and fire away.

Harold Camping, the evangelical king, can assist by getting the 500,000 or so braindead evangelical Children of the Corn, that he brainwashed to give up all of their worldly possessions to go meet and stay with the man in the sky. These zombies would not care if they died because they would finally get to meet and stay with the man in the sky. Camping can supply them with bibles to throw at the Islamists with some of the millions he bilked these fools out of.

If they still need more help, we can recruit the right wing centrists: the abortion clinic bombers, federal building bombers, abortion doctor killers and the radical right wing southern anthrax spreaders. With this army of right wing nuts and Jesus Freaks, we save our real army for another day.

Ron (Puke) Paul can preach liberty to the Islamics and Muslims who he loves. Maybe lyin Willardo, the Mexican Mormon Moron tax evader can get some of his buddies that he grew up with in Tijuana to volunteer to help also.

Any prisoners that are taken can be sent to Nut Gingerheads 2 trillion dollar moon colony on an unihabitable planet. There is no atmosphere there, so no oxygen and only traces of water. It is hotter than boiling water there during the day and it goes down to 160 degrees below zero at night. In fact, it so nice there, that we should also send the 4 clowns that are running for the repuke nomination there also. Ron (Puke) Paul can preach liberty to the men in the moon, lyin Willardo can establish an off planet moon bank to hide his money, Nut Gingerhead can destroy the moon peoples housing market, and the Pope's boy, Sanitarium can try to find work for his base, the rapist, pedophile catholic priests and braindead evangelical Children of the Corn.

If the right wing cracked teanuts want to beat Obama they need new candidates. Cain/Sandusky in 2012. These two are their best family values candidates. .Who cares what they did in the past, they are against abortion, that is all that counts to these nuts.

As I read the posts my observation is that when liberals begin to speak ultimately they turn from meaningful discourse to rude insults and profane language. This, unfortunately, is not unusual. Take for example the liberal version of the Tea Party movement (the Occupiers). Whereever they went there was violence and arrests, not to mention horrific living conditions. They hide their own version of selfish indulgence (which they are quick to point out in others) with the promise of a better world under their dominion of "caring" and free exercise of conscience (unless you disagree with them). For those still confused by their rhetoric one needs to simply look at their actions to determine their real motives and ambitions. As a former activist liberal turned conservative I can tell you first hand that their philosophies are dangerous, not because they are opposed to my own beliefs, but because they use their "moralizing" to justify their own version of cruelty and greed. I have come to fear them because they would turn our nation into an "occupied Wall Street" full of filth, poverty, and lawlessness. So to use President Obama's slogan (or rather abuse it) - let's hope we make a change.

If you actually GET Out and Protest , Thats bad . We get it you are a Republican . No problem . A lot of US gun owners are Independents Jeff , Do not be thinking your gonna pull that only man in the room with a gun stuff again .

There's such unpleasantness on both sides. If you genuinely believe one side or the other is the one full of viciousness and scorn, then you're not paying attention. I think decades of politics being a taboo subject has led to many people forming their opinions in a vacuum of like-mindedness, never seeing any merit in the opposition... that polarization has reached ridiculous heights, now. There's enough jackassery and a-holery on both sides of the aisle... nobody can claim moral high ground based on their affiliation.

                                                    #21.2 - Tue Apr 3, 2012 11:53 PM EDT

Carpenter7 - I'll ignore your personal insults...they really have no value. My point is to try to make a case for what I believe is right. However, let me correct some assumptions you made. First, I don't own a gun. Second, you eluded to the Tea Party movement as being disruptive. There is a difference between disruptive (though I don't subscribe to it since it rarely advances your point of view) and illegal. Further, getting out and protesting (in a lawful manner) is not only a constitutionally protected right it was encouraged by those who framed our founding documents as a pure form of political involvement (it beats having a revolution). By the way, you are correct I am a conservative Republican (and Tea Party activist) and I used to be a liberal Democrat. Finally, let me state that as I have been to many demostrations within the Tea Party movement I have never seen anyone become abussive or even disruptive (other than the liberal counter-protesters who followed us). Personally, everything that needs to be said about the constrast between liberal and conservative can be witnessed in the comparison of the actions of the Tea Party vs. the Occupy movement in a single statistic - the number of arrests made. Your thoughts?

mantaratx - You have a good point. Both sides have not always presented themselves well. However, I would argue that it is the tenor and trend of the argument that I find particularly one sided. I can remember a few years ago here in Portland we had what I describe as the "Peace Riots". A strange occurrence where liberals used violence to protest against violence. This curious preference for gravitating to cussing, swearing, and lawless behavior has been a hallmark of the left for as long as I can remember (including the 60's). I will admit that certain conservative radio talk show hosts become abusive to guests just as their leftist counterparts do, but what I almost never hear from the right is swearing, cussing and rude language. The same observation is made with regard to violence. When I was in DC during the Tea Party rally people were polite and well-mannered. In the entire day I only saw three policemen. None of which had to make an arrest and when we left there wasn't a scrap of paper on the ground. There is a difference for those willing to see it. Unfortunately, too many are governed by prejudice so deep they cannot recognize it (oddly it is usually those decrying the bias of others who most often practice it). I love a good debate and will spend hours sitting with my liberal friends as we respectfully put forth our ideas. In doing so we oftem come away with a deeper respect and personal fondess for the exercise and each other. As I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for sharing!

The data in the article was interesting, but one item that would have been enlightening is voter turnout. Nothing indicates interest in candidates more than a high turnout. To go along with turnout, it would be helpful to know whether these states and D.C. have open or closed primaries. If open, one has to wonder how many Democrats voted in the Republican primary.

Wisconsin has an open primary... The cynical strategy of Democrats, here, would have been to push Santorum, who is infinitely more unelectable. But we're a pretty moderate state all around (despite the agenda our governor has been trying to push)... I think Romney appeals to a lot of the independents, here. My gut feeling is that the state will be carried by Obama, but I'm sure it will be close if Romney gets the nomination.

Is it really a wise policy to invade an allies country with no warning to carry out an assasination and then brag about it? BTW - I don't miss bin laden.

The 2008 SOFA agreement with iraq defined the drop dead date of the troop withdrawal from iraq. Bush2's signiture is on that document, not obama's.

The main healthcare law doesn't take place until 2014 and it sure isn't clear what affordability means or that the poor can even afford it without taxpayer assistance.

However, if being open-minded to the point that you are willing to change when your position is proven wrong or indefensible is a fault I would gladly take it over the alternative - a rigid idealogue who would sacrifice everything rather than change. By the way, your personal logo proves my previous point. Sadly we are moving down the road to what was coined in the 70's as "the tribalization of America". Too many are unwilling to engage in a meaningful dialogue prefering to hurl mean-spirited insults. I would ask that you take my challenge and drop the coarse namecalling and engage in an open debate on substantive issues. I await your response.

I bet Obama will get our credit rating back to where it was when Bush was in office too! Maybe he will even get us to the 7% unemployment rate like it was when Bush was in office! I know, I know...Obama said it would never get to 8% and it's 13% in some states but don't mind THAT! And don't pay any attention to the fact that thousands of businesses are laying off employees because of the proposed Obamacare system. Obama is the saviour. I'd love to hear our benevolent leader speak in public but I don't think I can afford the gas. Besides, I have been busy with fundraisers trying to help our teachers buy pencils and paper.

                                                                They have different ideologies

Can anyone sum up why i should vote one way or the other? 1 from each side would be nice

                                                                  • 3 votes

                                                                  Good question Anon.

When we select any other professional - doctor, football coach, car mechanic, etc. - our number one criterion is his/her capability to do the job. Not how good-looking; not how convincingly they can lie, not religious beliefs (or lack thereof); not professed philosophies. Those things may be important, but not the most important. Number one is, and should be, their capability to do the job.

And yet that seems to be the last thing we consider when choosing a president. The job of president requires managing resources and people, devising innovative solutions, making critical decisions quickly and correctly with inadequate information; having a firm grasp of modern technology; intelligent delegation of responsibility; having both the intellectual depth and personal integrity to acknowledge all the consequences of a proposed action; and so on. The job of senator has almost nothing in common with that of president. Mayor of a large city; governor of a state; head of an international company; those come closer. Well, you get the idea...

In my opinion Romney can do the job and Obama can't. Please make your own decision on who you think can actually do the job best.

In my opinion, your opinion is stupid. This long tax evader and bankrupter talks a lot, but has no clue on how to run anything-except into bankruptcy.

When they release the past 5 years of his tax returns, it will show how much he has evaded in taxes and much he has hidden in the Cayman Island and Swiss bank accounts. Americans bank in these places for one reason, to avopid payment of taxes.

He is just another typical repuke criminal. A true Etch A Sketch champion who can't be held to anything he promises. Yiu have been either duped by him, or are just so desperate to find a decent reouke to run, that you defend him.

Hamm1 - Romney made his money by leading floundering companies back to profitability. Which is just what our country needs today.

He founded Bain Capital which manages approximately $65 billion in assets, and has founded, acquired, or invested in hundreds of companies including AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Toys R Us, Unisource, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel.

He was behind the start up of Staples. Starting with one store in 1986, Staples now is the world's largest office products company with $24 billion in sales in 2009.

There were a handful of companies in which jobs were lost, but the jobs created by all the others number in the hundreds of thousands ... hundreds of thousands of US workers.

What is even more noteworthy is the fact that he never blamed the previous management for his own difficulties – he just fixed what was wrong.

I've just specifically referenced over a dozen highly successful US companies, companies that we've all heard of, that he saved. All you are doing is repeating liberal propaganda with no facts or references. I guess you are a Democrat.
