Down in the polls to Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum is up with tough new TV ad in Wisconsin, which shows President Obama's face morphing into Romney's.
The script:
“I’m Rick Santorum and I approve this message.
Female narrator: "What if I told you this man’s big government mandated healthcare included $50 abortions and killed thousands of jobs?
Would you ever vote for him? What if I told you he supported radical environmental job killing cap and trade and the Wall Street bailouts?
And what if I told you he dramatically raised taxes and stuck taxpayers with a $1 billion shortfall?
One more thing: What if I told you the man I’m talking about isn’t him?
[picture morphs from Obama to Romney]
It’s him.
*** UPDATE *** The Romney campaign issues this response: “Rick Santorum is attacking pollsters, attacking reporters and attacking Mitt Romney. It is sad to see him completely lose his bearings and revert to patently false claims. Senator Santorum is at a point of desperation that he will say or do anything. It is pretty clear that he is lashing out at everyone around him in order to prop up his sinking campaign.”

My, aren't these tea baggers ever so clever... lol
File this under chapter #3841 in the book of you just can't make this crap up...
Nothing is better to start the week then watching the right wing nuts feast on their own! ;o)
When conservatives have nothing positive to say...they go onto the negative attack mode. Nothing new here.
I love it! Now, let's have some fun with the same program. Let me think, what on earth could we morph Newt into??
He's already a Newt, so we'll have to wait until he gets better.
Any vote for any GOP member means NO SOCIAL SECURITY NO MEDICARE....Balance the budget by ending the crusades !
This is the last gasp from a dying Santorum campaign. Do whatever it takes Ricky, to keep the voters home in November. The GOP is the nation's most experienced job killing party.
Rubio said. "No candidate has run more negative ads in American history than Barack Obama did in 2008, especially in the general.’’ In sheer numbers, that statement is correct: Obama bought many more ads than McCain did, both positive and negative. Nevertheless, two studies suggest that, overall, Obama's ads were not significantly more negative than his rival. He ran the most negative ads because he ran the most ads. We rate Rubio's statement Mostly True.

Will MSNBC and the rest of the liberal media that has so disgraced themselves during the current Trayvon-mania refer to Rubio as a "White Hispanic?"
Speaking of MSNBC's disgraceful coverage filled with lies, distortions and deceptive omissions....
http://www.nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/04/nbc-investigating-segment-on-zimmerman-call.html?imw=Y
NBC disclosed today that it will be launching an internal investigation into a segment about the Trayvon Martin case that appeared on the Today show, in which a call between George Zimmerman and a 911 dispatcher prior to Martin's death was edited in such a way that it portrays Zimmerman as a racial profiler. The editorial decision under review involves the removal of the dispatcher's inquiry about the race of the person Zimmerman was following — Martin. Absent that question, Zimmerman's comments get strung together as if he said, in sequence, "This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black."
The Washington Post provides the full transcript of that part of the call:
Of course Zimmerman goes on to follow Martin against the advice of the dispatcher, but in this version of the call, it doesn't appear that he's awkwardly offering the information or in effect, profiling. Zimmerman still might have been, but the truncated call left much less doubt.
The Post's Erik Wemple writes that in a case where few facts are undisputed, it was particularly egregious to misrepresent one of them, the phone call. "To portray that exchange in a way that wrongs Zimmerman is high editorial malpractice well worthy of the investigation that NBC is now mounting."
Meanwhile New York Times media czar David Carr wrote a column today titled "A Shooting, And Instant Polarization," in which he similarly impugned some media coverage of this controversial case.
Carr and Wemple are not the only two to call out partisan media and media at large for mishandling coverage of the Martin case, or misrepresenting specific aspects of it. Nor are NBC or Business Insider (chastised by Carr for mishandling dubious photos) the only two to have erred in their coverage.
We'll end with an exchange from Something's Gotta Give, starring Jack Nicholson (Harry) and Diane Keaton (Erica):
Damage123: Calm down - it's not the media, liberal or otherwise:
From the US Census Bureau website:
"The terms "Hispanic" or "Latino" refer to persons who trace their origin or descent to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Spanish speaking Central and South America countries, and other Spanish cultures. Origin can be considered as the heritage, nationality group, lineage, or country of the person or the person's parents or ancestors before their arrival in the United States. People who identify their origin as Hispanic or Latino may be of any race.

Bottom line (pardon the pun) If you have a vagina, don't vote Republican
REALLY? Is there a PUN in there? I don't see one. Please explain to me where the PUN is!
Perhaps the issue is that you don't know what a "PUN" is.

Feisty:
What salty nuts they are, if you can get past the rancid bitterness! ;>)
What better way to start the week than to read the readheaded bimbo's BS !
SOB................... pun bottom/vagina!!!!
Be interesting to see how effective the ad is with conservative voters. Wonder if he will use it in other states?
Phine,
Santorum needs to get out. He screwed up last week with the "We might as well leave Obama in" line and this ad is no different. Implying that there would be no change from Romney to Obama is ridiculous.
Funny but I think most of the Libs here would agree with me that Mitt Romney has very little in common with Barack Obama from a policy perspective.
Why Santorum thinks this is a winning strategy is beyond me.
It is desperate and it shows.
Obama should hit back. "What do you mean there's no difference? I'll give you a difference. If I tell you the sky is blue, you don't need to walk over to a window to see for yourself. When Romney tells you its blue, well, I'll leave that up to you."
WAC -- Not only that but this has to be the worst insult any one could throw -- morphing into pond scum.
But the question still remains, will the conservative voter buy into the ad?
If only there was a way for the GOP to morph Romney into a decent candidate.
Maybe. He is programmable, you know. Just depends on the skills of the guys turning the screwdrivers.
I just hope they don't forget the integrity chip the next time they work on him.
Ah.....nothing says freedom like voter suppression and controlling women's bodily functions.
Just like Limpy and the republicans did everything they could to demean women, now they are on to deameaning dead children. Just another freedom that republicans want to add, that is the freedom to stalk and kill an innocent child and never even go to court. The republicans have gun laws to protect not the people.
Have you noticed that the republicans are always protecting some lobbied law or tax cuts for corporations or tax cuts for the rich, but never anything for the people, except you are on your own.
VOTE FOR WOMEN'S FREEDOM.....VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
I am strugglinig here to grasp how Santorum's negative and largely inappropriate ads in Wisconsin, attacking his opponent necessarily morph into women's rights issues. If the man is committing political suicide, then women across America should be feeling relieved, if we ever actually felt threatened in the first place.
So Van Jones thinks Condi Rice would be a good VP Candidate?
Well, I'll be. Van Jones may actually have a good idea.
Who'd of thunk it?
MORE GOOD NEWS!!!
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Manufacturing continued to expand in March, according to a closely watched reading that showed the sector grew for the 32nd month in a row.The Institute of Supply Management's monthly index rose to 53.4 in March, from a 52.4 reading in February. Any reading above 50 indicates growth in the sector.
Thank you President Obama!!
The Tea-Party/Republicans will hate this good news!
Tommy-499410
Well I can tell you that I am happy to hear that! But, I live in a town, that was booming with Manufacture jobs about 15 years agao, now we have just alott of empty decaying buildings.....so I guess my next question to CNN Money, is WHERE? Cuase they certaintly are not where I live.
Thomas, Not all towns and cities manufacturing companies are going to come back! My questions to you is why did the Republican party stop a plan to raise the tariff on goods coming from other countries? This would stop manufacturing companies from leaving your town, because goods would be higher! Republican made a promise of no new taxes, so they shot down the idea!
Second question - Why do you feel the need to call the President names? Can each side have a debate without it?
Mark my Words, Santorum will be the reason the Republican Party will loose to Obumma!!!!! I have never been more ashamed of being a Conservative than I am right now, with Santorum comparing a fellow Republican/Conservative to Obumma!!!! Wow and I mean Wow!!! Santorum will be the cuase of Obumma getting re-elected, no matter who the Republican nominee is, no matter. Santorum, should just become a Liberal!!!As a matter of fact that would not be a bad idea....Get him out of our party!!!!I will never vote for Santorum, NEVER!!!
We don't want him, he is all yours...
Santorum is playing a dangerous game. If he does not get the nomination (which I don't believe he will) and causes Romney to loose the general election Santorum will be blamed for the loss and his future in 2016 will be tossed out he window.
Oh no, you think Santorum will come back in 2016 and try to plague America again. He needs to stay home with his family. America does not need him.
@Tommy -- You left out the other "good" news that construction is DOWN and that a major donor for Obama has been accused of fraud. This is the slowest recovery in history. Everything is stagnant and this "pond scum" administration is to blame.
So I was right! Thanks for proving my point that you and the rest of the Tea-Party hate any good news about the United States! President Obama has millions of donors, and he can not account for each person. Construction spending will raise!
I am so sorry you are so full of hate!!
President Obama 2012
The GOP hates all good news that's happened under President Obama's wing.
Oh but I thought he was a "multi-tasker" Tommy-499410? Well, if I was running for President, I would know who is actly donating to my campaign.
Or maybe he would now who was donating to his campaign, if he wasn't on the golf course.
But, really, that amount of a donation and he doesnt know who gave it.....please!!! shovel it somewhere else!
The definition of insanity is to continue doing something over and over again, expecting a different result. While I am sure that a small group of people may be back to work, and while I am sure that an even bigger group is benefitting from expanded social programs, I do resent the attitude among posters here that because everything is hunky dorey in their lives, I am supposed to get up and cheer with them, because my life and that of my community is in tatters. I am supposed to be patient and wait....Wait for what? and for how long? It is very easy to tell other people how rosy things are, unless you have experienced unemployment, loss of savings, crippling debts, loss of home, car, and let us not forget loss of personal dignity and self esteem because everything that you worked for is crumbling and you cannot do anything to stop it.
I was wondering whether Santorum would take the VP slot and use it as a springboard for a 2016 campaign. I guess this ad answers that question---pretty tough to walk back from this, even for the GOP.
Steeler Fan -
By way of comparison......for people who seem to think that the 2008 Obama/Clinton primary campaign was even remotely this negative......this morning I realized that it was four years ago today that I saw then-candidate Obama speak at a local high school. Went looking for a video of it on YouTube and found this one, where he starts talking about the campaign at about the 50-second mark, and the difference is like night and day compared to this Romney/Santorum stuff:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzN6QCYsBd0
As he says, that was a great campaign - on both sides - because people got involved and energized and enthusiastic. Both he and Hillary were more FOR their respective visions and ideas than they were against each other personally, and that's how you get people involved and energized and enthusiastic in the first place. Since neither Romney nor Santorum were doing anything else four years ago, you'd have thought they'd have paid attention and maybe learned something. Apparently not.
In any case, at least I don't think we have to worry about there ever being a Secretary of State Santorum.....
When I think of our former Senator, JoAnne---the first 2 words that come to mind aren't tact & diplomacy---traits that I have come to admire in Secretary of State Clinton.
Have you seen the ad for a Republican senatorial candidate in Pa. who describes himself as in the mold of "Santorum", as if that is a virtue? Did no one tell him of Santorum's historic margin of defeat in 2006?
Yikes - no, I haven't seen that one yet - though I'm assuming whoever it is at least realizes that "the Santorum mold" wouldn't play too well here in the Philly media market. I'm guessing it's NOT either one of these two guys, though:
"(Steve) Welch, of Chester County, switched his registration to the Democratic Party in 2005 and voted in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary - for Barack Obama, he said. He says he switched parties after becoming disenchanted with Washington, D.C., and insists he voted for Republican John McCain in the 2008 general election.
"Then there's Tom Smith of Armstrong County, who is largely retired from a coal-mining enterprise he founded. For practically his entire voting life, he was registered as a Democrat, and even voted in the 2010 Democratic primary - although he claims not to remember who he voted for. Smith's campaign responded that he has otherwise acted like a conservative and supported conservatives."
So we've got one Republican who voted for Obama and one who can't remember which Democrat he voted for just two years ago? Now there's a tv ad war just begging to happen!
Cakewalk for Bob Casey in November either way.....

Has Obama promised Rick a job?
SAntorum has done what underfinanced candidates have learned to do in the Age of Internet: come out with an ad he can't pay to air throughout Wisconsin and have the media pick it up and show it everywhere. I almost feel sorry for him except that his views are so extreme that my pity turns to fear...of what he would do with power.
I agree with you. There are too many people that are scared of him and his views on where the country should go. I know a few Repubs that will vote for Obama before they select Santorum. I believe Santorum is just a sore loser. He has lost. The Primary is about math, Santorum sucks at math, there is no way he will ever succeed. i see a few people stating that he should come out again in 2016. Hell no. Never to Santorum. Emotion is important, but he cannot control himself. He would be a horrible leader. He seems like an okay person, but I do not want someone like him or anyone from the tea party running the Nation.
Santorum has been outspent by the Romney campaign and by Super PACs and yet is still running in primaries in April because he has a message that some in his party want to hear. Not a message that appeals to me but I can understand their frustration that their opinions aren't being heard.
That to me is the difference between this primary and the one for the Democrats in 2008. I supported then-Sen. Obama but I always believed that if he lost to Sen. Clinton, my voice would still be heard in the party.
Mark my words, the cry baby, LIBERAL, Santorum will be the root cuase the Republican Party will losse to Obumma in Nov. To compare a fellow Replubican, and conservative to Obumma is the worst mistake a Republican canidate can make... Santorum, might as well be working for Obumma and his machine...Maybe he really is???
I see nothing wrong with Santorum standing his ground and fight for the nomination, but to do this comparing is and will crush the Republican Nominee (no matter who it is) chances for getting the Anit_Christ out of the White House.
See there is a difference between Santorum and Romney, and that is if the delegates were reversed, we all now Romney would have bowed out already and stood behind the 2nd Anit-Christ, Santorum.
Santorum, will be the ONLY REASON the Republican Party looses to Obumma!!!
Just curias, what the hell, is an anit_Christ? I've never heard of one befor Romney?
DfromSpencer:
If you want to now what an anitchrist is....go knock on the WhiteHouse door!!!!!
Mark my words, "Santorum, will be the reason the Republican Party loses to
Obumma". To compare a fellow republican to obumma, or to say Obumma is and
will do better than his fellow republican is in my mind, treason, to his party.
Is Santorum really a Liberal, working for the Obumma machine? Sure does seem
that way. I really can't believe it!!!! Santorum
is ruining any chances for any Republican Nominee... The Obumma machine is just
sitting back laughing. There is no need for the Machine to start attacking because
we have Santorum, one of our own (supposedly) crushing any chance we have. Santorum,
is nothing but a liberal in republican clothing....it's time we oust the
traitor!!!
Hey Tom, the GOTP are traitors to this country! They are deffinately traitors to the middle and poor classes, and the elderly! Go figure!
Way to go, Lil Ricky!!! You have just cemented your doom! Now how in the world will Mittens be able to put you out as Press Secretary? He cant. Oh Lil Ricky, you are showing your true colors! You are a spiteful, vindictive little man, aren't you??? LOL I will be so glad when this is over! There will be far less GOTP'ers in office come November! Thank you, idiotic, moronic GOTP'ers, for handing this fine President his second term in office! We could have done it without you, but hey, who's going to complain? Oh, right, the conservatives, i forgot about them? But then again, Bush dont want to be remembered either! HaHaHa!! OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Verily, I say unto thee, and let the word go forth through out the land, I would pay $50 to abort Rick Santorum.
Is anyone passing the hat?
Sick of the Bickering:
If you cannot figure out "bottom line", you've been hanging out with Ken and Barbie to long.
Does the magic dream house have an elevator for Barbie's 'Vette?
Santorum is desperate and is using desperate tactics.
Santorum is being unfair. Romney only morphs into Obama in Massachussetts and Vermont. In South Carolina he morphs into Jim Demint. The chameleon has so many colors.
It is interesting that Santorum will get something like 34% of the vote in Wisconsin. And Gingrich might get another 10% and Ron Paul another 10%. That just proves that the Republican Party has many "special" people. They would kill FEMA and Social Security. And all but the Ron Paul contingent would enact laws shutting down Planned Parenthood and any similar nonprofits.
Maybe the local Wisconsin elections can prevent the Republicans from having another dismal turnout. Romney is driving the voters away in droves.
Well give'em hell Rick!!! If Mr. Romney wants to be President then he better get to this type of heat.
Nobody knows who Romney is, not even Santorum. But, Republicans never had a candidate that lied more than Willard Romney. That has made all his opponents in 2008 and 2012 criticize his lack of character, even Newt.
Looks like the signs of the end of a campaign.
Wonder how much money he has left? He was low on funds before, he's about to get shut out in April, lose his home state, etc, etc.
Not that he'll admit it. He might do the Gingrich thing, cut his staff, basically suspend it, and vacation in primary states.
Please, it is possible to spellcheck before you post. That sounds snobbery, don't it?
