“President Obama has opened the first significant lead of the 2012 campaign in the nation's dozen top battleground states, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, boosted by a huge shift of women to his side,” USA Today writes. “In the fifth Swing States survey taken since last fall, Obama leads Republican front-runner Mitt Romney 51%-42% among registered voters just a month after the president had trailed him by two percentage points. The biggest change came among women under 50. In mid-February, just under half of those voters supported Obama. Now more than six in 10 do while Romney's support among them has dropped by 14 points, to 30%. The president leads him 2-1 in this group.”
GOP 12 notes that New Mexico, Michigan, and Wisconsin don’t look like swing states at all and thereby skew the poll. And states like Arizona, Indiana, and Missouri should be included, since they were closer in 2008, but lean GOP. Still, Romney and the GOP need to expand the playing field and places like Wisconsin are places they hope to play.
60 Minutes highlights the promises Obama made as a candidate on space and the impact cuts to the space program have had on Brevard County, Florida. Obama said on Aug. 2, 2008: “I'm gonna ensure that our space program doesn't suffer when the shuttle goes out of service by making sure that all those who work in the space industry in Florida do not lose their jobs when the shuttle is retired because we can't afford to lose their expertise.”
“A major donor to President Barack Obama has been accused of defrauding a businessman and impersonating a bank official, creating new headaches for Obama's re-election campaign as it deals with the questionable history of another top supporter,” AP reports. “The New York donor, Abake Assongba, and her husband contributed more than $50,000 to Obama's re-election effort this year, federal records show. But Assongba is also fending off a civil court case in Florida, where she's accused of thieving more than $650,000 to help build a multimillion-dollar home in the state -- a charge her husband denies.”

Ken Lay gave lots of money to Bush. Maybe we should ask him to give back his presidency.
Beef Products Inc., the company at the center of a national controversy over ammonia-treated beef byproducts – known in the media as “pink slime” – is headed by Eldon Roth, a major donor to Mitt Romney’s political action committees. The company has suspended operations at several plants due to criticism of its products.
In Romney’s book, “No Apology,” he described Roth as an American success story - I guess this is an example of how capitalisms work: Create pink slime to stick in people's meat, and call it a success story.
Don't worry. Mr. Soros can handle anything the repubs throw at the President.
George Bush...let's go back to Mr. Bush for the 10,000th time !
It's like a Groucho Marx joke. It's still funny after all these years.
States like Wisconsin where there has been radical right-wing overreach and scandal by Teapublicans under governors like Scott Walker, may lean to the left this time despite unemployment, gas prices, and other economic indicators.
Swing states like Wisconsin (Scott Walker), Florida (Rick Scott), and even Ohio (John Kasich) are in play much more than usual, and possibly Virginia (Bob Ultrasound McDonnell) and other states.
To Mo below -- Follow Quinnipiac (or odds in Vegas) if you want more reliable information. The rest of the polls are lacking.
bayllie -- The meat packing industry is notorious for hiring illegals, so my guess is Romney is all for it unless he is running for office for Pete's sake. But the "pink slime" which consists of what usually goes into hot dogs plus ammonia can make up as much as 25% of the meat we consume, and this kind of thing is unacceptable! After Dubya's stupid idea to use corn for ethanol, things like this came into being to keep meat prices down (along with illegal labor). Who knows how long it will take to correct all the crap the Republicans have done.
Obama/Biden - 2012!
why not? Are you ashamed of Mr. Bush?
re swing states, the new republican govs and their war on everyone have pushed all their states to president obama.
Seems like the governors you are referencing all have one thing in common...each is trying to reduce the long term costs of government union employees, which are driving many states to near bankruptcy due to the inflated pensions and health care benefits.
So we taxpayers have a choice of whether we'd prefer to have a governor working to reign in those costs...or a governor like we have in my state. In his first year on the job our new Democrat governor gave us the largest tax increase in state history. I think I'd prefer one of the other kind of governors.
And what's a "war on everyone" ???
Inflated pensions and benefits? Or what used to pass a normal when private sector workers also received benefits? The problem isn't the benefits. The problem is that the states wrote IOU's because no one wanted to pay for the state services they had already received. Your kids got taught, now you want to take back the promise. And stop with the unions. How many teachers in the last 30 years in how many districts have actually gone on strike? Blame your local (elected) school boards and the state legislatures that entered into the contracts (no guns were held to anyone's head) and then didn't fund them.
Please don't blame the school board officials. I was one for many years. Like most states the allocation of school funds is dictated by the state (and sometimes county). Then the board has to work with what they have in negotiating teacher and staff contracts.
Trust me. I know what it is like to see teachers forgo increase in salaries and benefits, take money out of their own pockets to pay for classroom supplies, get laid off, classrooms combined, and needed school bus services curtailed in the rural community in which I live.
And yes I was elected (and re-elected many times). And I didn't get one dime for serving.
Gee whiz. A major shift to Obama among women voters. What on earth could have caused that, I wonder.
I don't think it is really fair to rip on someone who got a donation from a crook. However when darn near every top donor is a crook and every appointment you made is crooked it starts to get hard to overlook. Latest is the GSA wasting almost a million dollars of taxpayer money on Vegas trips.
What a joke, that pretty much says it all but you can read more here:
