Conservative group launches big anti-Obama ad campaign

The American Energy Alliance -- a group with reported ties to the conservative Koch Brothers -- has launched a $3 million-plus TV ad campaign hitting President Obama on higher gas prices.

The campaign -- at a buy of $3.2 million -- will air in Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia from March 30 through April 12, according to NBC's ad-tracking data.

"Since Obama became president, gas prices have nearly doubled. Obama opposed exploring for energy in Alaska. He gave millions of tax dollars to Solyndra, which then went bankrupt. And he blocked the Keystone Pipeline, so we'll all pay more at the pump," the ad goes.

"Obama's Energy Secretary said we need to -- quote -- boost the prices of gasoline to the levels in Europe. That's nine dollars a gallon. But what does he care. 'I don't own a car at the moment.' Tell Obama: We can't afford his failing energy policies.

Meanwhile, the DNC is up with a web video noting that the people behind this ad campaign are from "Big Oil."

Politico reported yesterday the person who runs American Energy Alliance -- Tom Pyle -- is a former Koch Industries lobbyist who regularly attends the political summits organized by the Koch Brothers.

Never saw that coming... lol

I wonder how much of every $5.00 per gallon gas, goes directly into the pockets of The American Energy Alliance?

Talk about money to burn... The Kochtopus's tentacles run deep...

I thought the Koch Brothers would be enjoying high gas prices along with the rest of the big oil industry.

One would think that they would literally thank President Obama instead of blaming him 'cause they are making mega profits!

President Obama, I guess, is the reason big-oil is making record profits that they don't like?......I'm confused!

Yet Obama and Chu want your Kochie Monsters to make another $3-$4 a dollars gallon!

Obama and Chu are the ones intentionally driving up the price of gas. They are the ones that stated their policies would cause the prices to necessarily skyrocket. They are the ones that have admitted they are doing nothing to control the cost of gas.

Aren't they the ones making the oil companies rich?

Didn't see that coming, either?

So no, bob-lotsanumbers. They're not making oil companies rich. Oil companies are making oil companies rich.

It's a perversion of supply and demand. Supply and (artifically inflate/deflate) Demand is the new rule of thumb.

Bob -

Obama and Chu are the ones intentionally driving up the price of gas.

How so? What facts do you have that they have any impact on gas prices, much less are intentionally driving up the prices.

They are the ones that stated their policies would cause the prices to necessarily skyrocket.

Wrong Again. It was stated that "Cap and Trade" (which was never passed) would increase electricity prices, nothing was ever said about gas prices.

They are the ones that have admitted they are doing nothing to control the cost of gas.

Another "factual inaccuracy". Obama has mentioned numberous times his "all of the above" policy. Hillary negotiated a new agreement to open up more driling areas in the gulf. I could go on and on but obviously you prefer to ignore facts and post fiction.

Chilled,

Aside from messing with the obtuse above, the real reason for the escalation of energy prices last year and the record high seasonal base line today is primarly Obama's butchering of the value of the dollar with QE1 and QE2.

Conseguently, in real terms the oil companies are not richer in real terms - hence their desire for the freedom to drill more, the freedom to produce more, the freedom to get richer. (Freedom is such an evil thing ...)

Obama and Chu screwed up their plans with their economic ignorance .... the prices were not supposed to rise this much before the elections.

Now they are facing the problem of future supply that they have crushed.

Karma's a bitch, huh? (Well that and ignorance, ignoring the will of the people ....)

Guess I'm a socialist then.

A nice, 2%-er socialist.

Good catch, bob.

That or I can wield my education enough to note that there are some things private organizations do best, and some things the government can do best, and want those areas categorized according to attribute.

The problem arises when the misinformation fed to you for so long, by your vaunted party, has short-circuited something vital called 'self-interest'. As a scientist-type, and a B2C owner, I can rightfully say that I want more people to have more money in their wallets. I understand that shifting the tax burden upwards, and providing for basic necessities, frees up spending capital amongst my consumer demographic. I want the government to provide for those, since it is the only entity which can truly take on macro-economic concerns.

So.

Socialist it is.

Just like Jobs, Gates, Buffet, Cook, Zuckerburg and other scientist/commerce-types. We're all socialists together, fella.

It is estimated that we need to spend $2.2 trillion over the next 5 years just to elevate our reliability grade from a “D” to a “B”.

That is $440 billion a year 13 times the expected gas taxes.

You are spot on, Dennis. There is no arguing the point. What we the people seem to be at odds with is in what is the best approach to take to overcome the astronomical cost.

The thing that strikes me the most about all the suggestions, right or left, from our elite political class in this country is that no one seems to adequately address the underlying problem of why medical procedures are so costly and physician's fees are so grossly outrageous.

Rather, they are focused on the cost of insurance and widening the expanse of insurance coverage. The reason insurance costs are so high is that the companies have to bear the outlandish charges for medical services in this country. Until the root cause of these excessive costs are addressed, we will continue to have problems no matter how much we punish the insurance companies or punish the taxpayers.

I beg to differ, The defense costs are ALWAYS about double to triple what the government tells you the "budget" is. This is an old example but the practice gets used EVERY YEAR.

      http://www.independent.org/newsroom/article.asp?id=1253

here is info on hidden costs

      http://www.thebulletin.org/web-edition/columnists/gordon-adams/the-true-cost-us-defense-spending

      http://www.lexingtoninstitute.org/hasc-panel-report-highlights-hidden-costs-in-defense-acquisition-system?a=1&c=1171

The first link was to a 2004 report when Bush didn't even
include the wars as part of the budget – they were funded separately.

The second was 2008 and the wars were still separate from the budget.

The third one while dated this year references a 1994 report.

Yes defense overruns are common place but so are medical cost overruns.

1 Obama did not say that employment would not go above 8%

2 Gallup must be using a different criteria because unemployment is 8.3% and falling. Comparisons only make sense if you use the same set of criteria.

        3. Gasoline was above $4 per gallon during the GWB era. It fluctuates due to market demand and at the whims of the Middle East and Big Oil - not this or any previous President has control over world markets. If Obama did have the control, can you and I agree that this would be an EXCELLENT time to have the price of gas drop?.

This is just a History lesson. I am sending it to all regardless of party .
I bet I know who wouldn't read it -- those afraid of the truth. It is history and nothing can change it.
The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007,
the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start
        of the 110th Congress.
The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the
        103rd Congress in 1995.
For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that
everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:
January 3rd, 2007, the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the House:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
        The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!
        Remember that day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House
Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
        BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
THANK YOU DEMOCRATS (especially Barney ) for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and
4.6% Unemployment...to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars
of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
(BTW: Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie -starting in 2001 because it was
financially risky for the US economy). Barney blocked it and called it a "Chicken Little Philosophy"
        (and the sky did fall!)
And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
        OBAMA and the Democrat Congress,
        especially BARNEY!!!!
So when someone tries to blame Bush...
REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"
        Bush may have
been in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel they were
driving the economy into the ditch.
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from
Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.
In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on
spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing
resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they
passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budget.
And where was Barack Obama during this time?
He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he
signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked
        like during that period:
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the
Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit
spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama,
        who voted for the budgets.
If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. ! ! !
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is "I inherited a deficit that I voted for, and then I voted to expand
that deficit four-fold since January 20th."
There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends this information on!
"The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those
        who vote for a living."

So everything the President said he was going to do, and didn't, is not because he is in way over his head and just very foolish for saying it in the first place, And since his word is worthless, we should all believe him now?

been in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel they were

One simple fact is the President signs the bills into law and not Congress.

Another simple fact. President Obama is a proven liar, incompetent to the task at hand and was and is unqualified for any Leadership position. What percentage of Americans are better off today, than when he first took office? Few, very few.

The continuing resolutions provide funding for existing federal programs at current or reduced levels. Still laws and bills are signed by the President.

President Obama, a clear winner for America, which is an actual fact.

Dahly, the economy is getting better. It would be better yet had the republicans done anything except fight for tax cuts for the rich.

The rich 1% are way better off and got like 87% of all the growth in our country has gone to the rich. So the poor are getting very little of the growth trickled down on them. All the people have gotten is a slow drop of the unemployment rate.

Best part yet, the republicans want to make this problem worse. Raise your taxes to pay for more tax cuts for the rich while the Rand plan destroys anything that might even resemble a safety net for the people. If that is the economy you want then vote for a republican because they plan on all the money going to the rich too.

        VOTE FOR AMERICA....VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 2012

I find it interesting that all that money was spent on an ad about the price of gas. What if the price goes down? What happens to their investment in the ad? Doesn't that mean they control the price and will guarantee that the price stays high so their ad will have maximum impact?

Oil companies can and do set the prices they charge, just like any other business is entitled to do. What they do not control is the prices they must pay for crude oil on the open market. They also do not control the costs of refinement unless they refine it themselves.

Maybe Obama or some of his acolytes can explain how, when he was a senator, he voted to continue tax subsidies for big oil companies, and now demonizes them. Is it kind of like how raising the debt limit ceiling "shows a lack of leadership" while Obama was a senator, and voted against raising the ceiling, and then as President vilifying the GOP for "playing politics" when they were against raising it?

AHHHHH, let the name calling begin. So if oil prices are low, tax subsidies are a good thing, but if they are high, subsidies are bad? Why, oh why, didn;t the Dems end them when they had the power and prices were rising during the first 2 years of Obama's term? And how does that explain ANYTHING about the debt ceiling flip-flop?

Either a Repeal or Unconstitutional Declaration against the Health Care Act means we all lose big time - annual and life time caps return, people getting kicked off their plan after they get sick, no pre-existing condition coverage...yep...we will be better off with no replacement...NOT!!!

Oh boy, more millions being spent to make GOP/FOX people hate President Obama even more! Fan the fire of hate, broadcast more vicious lies, it doesn't matter. ALL that is important is to have a GOP President again! How dare the majority of voters who elected a Democratic President! And a black man to boot! Screw the country and our people (unless if you are rich, of course.) For three years now, the GOP has hoped for our President to fail. The GOP knows how powerful hatred is, and they will do and say ANYTHING for more of that power. Forget about being responsible - it's so much easier to blame President Obama for everything. Hate, hate, lies, lies. Are voters really so stupid to make up their minds because of expensive TV commercials?

And once again---disagreeing with the policies of the Obama Administration does not automatically make you a racist, despite your outcries. Apparently you do not understand the reason for the ads. The "GOP/FOX" people you cite are ALREADY not going to vote for Obama. The ads aren't meant to sway them, silly. It is to enlighten and sway the independent voters.

You're right about the target being independent voters though...yet it's all red meat for the GOP viewers...fan the hate since there's not enough going around. Reply#12 - Fri Mar 30, 2012 2:28 PM EDT

Question, if the oil companies are making record profits (after expenses), then why are prices going up while demand is going down. Supply and demand no longer apply if you stay within the US. But demand is going up in China and India so could they be the reason oil prices are rising since oil is traded on the world market and since the price is high the american wells are now open and producing to sell on that market. We are exporting oil guys, why? because there is money to be made on the open market. This is not hard people really, we are paying more at the pump because more of the oil and refined oil is being exported, plus it has been reported that some of the refineries have either shut down or are reducing production due to the lower demand and what does that do for the price of gas. No president has any control over the cost of oil or gas but the stock market does as well as the oil producers even the ones in this country. Its nice to cry the president is causing oil prices to go up just to make a political statement but it is a false claim. So go back to school and learn economics 101 and try reading information rather than having someone tell you what to think.

It was Bill Clinton's Campaign theme, did you already forget? 22 million unemployed, 8.3%. 19% underemployed; lost their job but are working at "something" because they're self reliant, proud people. 6 million plus added to the poverty rolls. Double digit increase in Food Stamp recipients, 46.7 million people. $3.92 gas. I could go on, but why bother. BHO has done a great job! Ignore the FACTS! He couldn't lead a fly to poop........

You should study economics not political dogma. Wages are stagnant and additional money spent on gas is from other expenditures that do contribute to economic growth. There were more jobs in 2000 than now. Unemployment is calculated not measured

I find it fascinating how so many people are bothered by a simple message. What Obama has done to this nation should bother you much more than an anti-Obama ad.

We aren't even told if/and/or how much money was donated by the Koch brothers. Liberals just try to connect everything to wealthy conservatives, big oil companies, or (if possible) both in a pathetic attempt to ignore the real issues.

Face it folks! The TEA-GOP-Republican party's only goal is to kill any accomplishments for and by the president. Call what you will, this is their primary goal. Make no mistake, the Terrifying Errant Activist(TEA) party are alive and thriving in local and state politics. The Tea Party has strongholds like Virginia, Colorado, Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida and Texas and want to lull the population to sleep while they maneuver their people into power. They are very active locally and control monies, local infrastructure and power. By alienating women, they stand less of a chance to get close. The Hispanic/Latino sect realize these candidates are dead-set against their taking part in America. The Black community has seen the hatred in Florida and many will vote for president Obama because they can. The sad part is the roadblocks the TEA party controlled states have already set into motion may have some effect, if allowed. Privatizing Medicare and Medicaid and vouchering both systems is their primary goal if allowed.
