Rubio endorses Romney for president

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a rising star in the Republican Party and a favorite among conservatives to round out the party's ticket this fall, endorsed Mitt Romney for president on Wednesday evening.

Rubio's endorsement is a marker of support that many candidates had sought. It comes at a point in the campaign at which Romney has sought to coalesce Republicans behind his candidacy.

"I don't have a problem with primaries, but I think we're at a stage now where at least two of the candidates have admitted that the only way to get the nomination is to have a floor fight at the convention," Rubio said before announcing his support for Romney on Fox News.

"It’s increasingly clear that Mitt Romney’s going to be the Republican nominee,” Rubio said, adding: “We’ve got to come together behind who I think has earned this nomination and that’s Mitt Romney.”

Romney has spoken highly of Rubio in the past, describing him most recently as an example of "the American Dream" in an appearance Tuesday on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show."

Rubio has been a favorite among conservatives since his Senate bid in 2010, in which he managed to best moderate Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in the Republican primary, and eventually, in the general election (in which Crist ran as an independent).

Since his election, Rubio has been cautious on national issues. He waited months before delivering his maiden speech in the chamber, and had generally demurred on questions of national politics, instead emphasizing his focus on Florida issues.

But there has been undeniable hype surrounding his potential selection as a running mate to the eventual Republican nominee.

"It's not going to happen," the Florida senator said Wednesday on MSNBC. "I'm obviously flattered that people think about me that way. There are some things I'd like to get done here in the United States Senate. I'm enjoying the role that we have here."

Although Pope Benedict has called for more religious freedom, he's chosen to meet with Fidel Castro and not political dissidents during his trip to Cuba. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., discusses.

Rubio additionally said on Wednesday evening that while he has spoken with Romney throughout the primary, the topic of the vice presidency never came up as a topic.

To that end, Rubio pushed up the release date of an autobiography to early this summer (a less favorable biography by a reporter is expected later this summer). His campaign finance reports also showed he had hired a firm to conduct opposition research on his past — mirroring the kind of vetting process a potential vice presidential candidate might face.

The potential of having Rubio on the ticket has stoked Republican optimism that the party's nominee might fare better among Latino voters; the GOP has lagged among this key voting bloc in several recent national polls. A Fox News Latino poll released earlier this month found that 24 percent of Latino voters would be more likely to support the Republican ticket if Rubio were the vice presidential nominee; 51 percent said it would make no difference, and 14 percent said they would be less likely to vote for a ticket on which Rubio served as the vice presidential pick.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who endorsed Romney for president, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review last week that Romney should pick Rubio as his running mate.

"He is the best orator of American politics today, a good family man. He is not only a consistent conservative, but he has managed to find a way to communicate a conservative message full of hope and optimism," he said.

Proudwillie, God gave us the Constitution, really??? Which history were you taught. Read up on the founding fathers (and ignore that monumental dolt Beck) and you'll see that the key figures we largey atheistic or agnostic. They wrote the Constitution to distance the government from religion.

Where did your country go? I know where mine is...

And they weren't working hard (as Bachmann stated) to abolish slavery either. Another revisionist hero on the right.

And also take Rick Perry and the onfederate flag with you..

And why is the American flag red, white, and blue? The American flag, first one was sewn by Betsy Ross in May of 1776. Formalized by an act of Congress, the Flag Act in 1777. The flag is red, white, and blue because each color symbolizes inherent American values. The red symbolizes heartiness and valor, the white symbolizes purity and innocence, and the blue symbolizes vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

That 24% of Latinos they are talking about, i am willing to bet, are mostly made up of Cubans and Puero Ricas. They are the only Latinos that are not affected by the republican model for immigration reform.. which is to keep everybody out and ship out all the ones that are her picking the fruits you buy at the store. Rubio went on national Spanish television (maybe Telemundo) and made a poor argument for being against the Dream Act. something over 90% of the voting Latino population are for. I bet come election time, if Rubio is picked, he is going to have to defend his reasons for being opposed to the Dream Act and co sponsoring that horrible bill that allowed companies to deny covarage on personal or religious belief. Joe Biden is going to have that guy for lunch.

First of all.. it was a FOX poll. It cannot be trusted, and you are Correct, that the General Latino population does NOT and will NOT support Rubio. Rubio is a Turdbagger and Latinos will not go for that. Next thing we'll here is how he came to the US on a raft made of bamboo and coconuts from Cuba.

A friend of mine who is a far right GOP'er says that he likes Rubio because "he is a nice Anglicized Cuban". I am still trying to figure out what that is supposed to mean.

That is the first time I have ever seen the word "Anglicized" in religious terms. My friend was refering to him in general as a politician not a potencial V.P. candidate.

By the way. The Vice President does the will of the President. That is pretty much all the V.P. does except break a tie in the Senate and to stand ready to become President in an emergency.

Well I guess "The Dick" Cheney never got THAT memo. Somebody failed to inform him because he thought he had more power than Dubya and had the same immunity from prosecution.

Proudwillie, once again read some history. The Republican Party of Lincon's era is unrecgnizable next to today's party and I'm sure Abe has been dizzy more than once spinning over in his grave. And so would President Jefferson who, by the way was only one of several authors of that document. And I'm sure the God fearing women would love to be treated like property again, forbidden to own property and couldn't vote (among other God fearing rights...)

#130.1 I just don't know where to begin. Do you wonder why the folks on the right in here are not running to your aid?

Who are the "those" and the "theys" to whom you are referring?

Why would women side with the founding fathers? Your know, our "four" fathers. They must've been really busy guys. Anyway, say hi to the people of coloreds for me. Thurman, Wallace, Dukes, and their ilk.

No kidding Strange Twist. Romney's latest flip has to do with Ryan's budget. Now Romney thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It maintains the Medicare savings (The Republicans call them cuts).

However, Romney swore he'd treat Medicare like the sacred cow that it is... Which way's the wind blowing now? He'd make a great weathervane.

The biggest success Romney had is when he and Bain took over the Flip-Flop factory.

The new GOP-Tea-Republican party strategy is working. It's age old and called divide, keep occupied, and regroup to conquer in the end. 1. get as many candidates into the race as possible, or a favorite to everyone choosing. 2. Start the draw down using the divide process towards the finale election for the party before November. (example) 12 candidates divided by 2 equals 6 remaining. Then 6 divide by1 1/2 equals 4 remaining. Then 4 divide by 2 equals 2 remaining. Then promote the finale 2 as being the best the party has to offer. This same process was used in the last election and did not get Sen. John McCain /Gov. Sara Palin elected. Yes! The new GOP-Tea-Republican party strategy is working and weather they win the general election in November doesn't really matter right now. The GOP-Tea-Republican party strategy is working to reestablish, revive, and redefine the party of "NO" for future elections that will control the white house, Senate, and congress, to include all lower political positions from governor down to a GOP-Tea-Republican party dog catcher. And the dying Grand Old Party (GOP) can't do any about it, because once they are reunited after the GOP convention, they will vote for a weasel and a skunk if the The GOP-Tea-Republican party directs them to. Vote for Pres in 2012: $$Richie-Romney/V.P Godly-Sanatorium/ and their staff Nutty Newt, Got the runs Paul, Texas Slick Rick, not a male Bach-man, not a white male- Herman Sugar Cain, not a re-pub Pawlenty, can't Cantor, cry baby Bonner, dumber then them all Donald Trump, and the list goes on and on. Give them back the US government, they still haven't finish their last destructive GOP-Tea-Republican party strategy to turn the USA into one big venture capitalist investment for themselves, and their super rich donors inside and out side this country.

To all teapublican birthers who think Marco Rubion should be on the ticket:

Some of you object to President Obama on the grounds that He's not a natural born citizen because his father was not a citizen of the United States. Let me remind you that neither of Rubio's parents were US citizens when he was born. (Or for that matter Jindal's and Haley's parents).

Others of you object because you feel that Mrs. Obama gave birth to the future President in Kenya. How do you know that Mrs. Rubio didn't fly back to Cuba to give birth to the future Senator? After all, Cuba is only 90 miles away from the United States mainland. In addition, have any of you seen Senator Rubio's birth certificate?

The point I'm trying to make is that if you continue to attach President Obama's legitimacy to being President, these questions will be asked of Marco Rubio. (What goes around comes around, poetic justice, etc.). Therefore, it will behoove you to stop questioning the President's place of birth and citizenship. You are already laughingstocks around the world.

As a proud supporter of and contributor to the President's reelection, I can't wait to hear your defense of Senator Rubio's legitimacy to becoming the Veep candidate. Saying (but this is different) won't cut it.

I love the sound of crickets. Rubio had some serious ethics issues here in Florida during his time in the state Senate.

The tea party is alive and well in Florida and are systematically destroying the livability of the state. They have gutted the pubic schools and are starving the state universities. All is not lost though, big corporations are getting tax breaks left and right. I guess we know who is paying who's bills. All the while our revenues are dropping like crazy.

You sound just a little biased against taxpayers that are sick and tired of overpaying you for the job that you do, just because you are represented(controlled) by a union who's only goal is to keep in power enjoying luxiourous lifestyles by getting you more and more pay and benefits financied by ....of course.... the taxpayers!

Not only do I not believe that Obummbler is a natural born American, I don't think he even has a bonified U.S. citizenship status now. Tell me how he could be educated in his muslim faith in an Asian country that required a change in citizenship to their country, and he's magically reincarnaed into an American Citizen for running as a dark horse in the 2008 presidential election??

Oh and when you're answering that, tell me.....where the hell's Joe Biden's High School Diploma??
