Rubio endorses Romney for president

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a rising star in the Republican Party and a favorite among conservatives to round out the party's ticket this fall, endorsed Mitt Romney for president on Wednesday evening.

Rubio's endorsement is a marker of support that many candidates had sought. It comes at a point in the campaign at which Romney has sought to coalesce Republicans behind his candidacy.

"I don't have a problem with primaries, but I think we're at a stage now where at least two of the candidates have admitted that the only way to get the nomination is to have a floor fight at the convention," Rubio said before announcing his support for Romney on Fox News.

"It’s increasingly clear that Mitt Romney’s going to be the Republican nominee,” Rubio said, adding: “We’ve got to come together behind who I think has earned this nomination and that’s Mitt Romney.”

Romney has spoken highly of Rubio in the past, describing him most recently as an example of "the American Dream" in an appearance Tuesday on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show."

Rubio has been a favorite among conservatives since his Senate bid in 2010, in which he managed to best moderate Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in the Republican primary, and eventually, in the general election (in which Crist ran as an independent).

Since his election, Rubio has been cautious on national issues. He waited months before delivering his maiden speech in the chamber, and had generally demurred on questions of national politics, instead emphasizing his focus on Florida issues.

But there has been undeniable hype surrounding his potential selection as a running mate to the eventual Republican nominee.

"It's not going to happen," the Florida senator said Wednesday on MSNBC. "I'm obviously flattered that people think about me that way. There are some things I'd like to get done here in the United States Senate. I'm enjoying the role that we have here."

Although Pope Benedict has called for more religious freedom, he's chosen to meet with Fidel Castro and not political dissidents during his trip to Cuba. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., discusses.

Rubio additionally said on Wednesday evening that while he has spoken with Romney throughout the primary, the topic of the vice presidency never came up as a topic.

To that end, Rubio pushed up the release date of an autobiography to early this summer (a less favorable biography by a reporter is expected later this summer). His campaign finance reports also showed he had hired a firm to conduct opposition research on his past — mirroring the kind of vetting process a potential vice presidential candidate might face.

The potential of having Rubio on the ticket has stoked Republican optimism that the party's nominee might fare better among Latino voters; the GOP has lagged among this key voting bloc in several recent national polls. A Fox News Latino poll released earlier this month found that 24 percent of Latino voters would be more likely to support the Republican ticket if Rubio were the vice presidential nominee; 51 percent said it would make no difference, and 14 percent said they would be less likely to vote for a ticket on which Rubio served as the vice presidential pick.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who endorsed Romney for president, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review last week that Romney should pick Rubio as his running mate.

"He is the best orator of American politics today, a good family man. He is not only a consistent conservative, but he has managed to find a way to communicate a conservative message full of hope and optimism," he said.

Romney/Rubio rolls of the tongue nicely.... a breath of fresh air after the BO of the current administration.

After obamacare goes down in flames, a new administration can focus on economic growth... seeminly foreign words to the Solyndra/Volt guy!

Jeb Bush, another rich spoiled brat.

News is breaking over @ DailyKos that the other spoiled brat - Willard - nixed his car elevator. Good to see him make such an important annoucement at such a time.

When is Mitt going to explain what happens to a 45 yr old who has no insurance and needs it because of a medical condition?

These rich kids are useless. Get them the hell out of politics.

And what exactly has Rubio done to make him a rising star? The fact that his parents escaped from Cuba/Castro? Oh wait, that's false. They left Cuba before Castro's regime.

I watched the endorsement and he said that he plans to continue representing Florida in the Senate. While I believe he is sincere, there will be immense pressure on him to take the VP spot on the Romney ticket. Me? I hope he yields to the pressure.

For the delusional counting on more Obama dollars - the experiment is over come November 2nd:

    Let's see -

Gas is over 100% higher from the day Odumbo took office

He negotiates with the Vice-President of Russia without letting the American people know he's making post election deals

Millions of jobs have been wiped of the books, never to come back

Unemployment is still nationally over 8% and much higher in lots of areas of the country

We are more divided as a country than we have been in 50 years because of his economic, racial and social divisive policies, practices and crap that comes out of his mouth

His baby, his pride and joy, his hope for the promised land of socialized medicine is going to blow up in his anti-American face

I'm pretty sure this would only leave the bottom of the barrel to vote for him.

Leiya123: You are joking right? The GOP undertook as their only policy for the last three years to take the opposite position of President Obama on every single issue no matter how reasonable. You and the rest of you morons who try to turn reality on its ear are unpatriotic. Do us and yourself a favor and move somewhere else far, far, far away from this wonderful Nation. Push, pull or get out of the way. Don't stonewall ever reasonable effort then claim the current administration is divisive. Ever heard of the Infrastructure job bank? stonewalled by the GOP. Heard of the NEXGEN air traffic control system? Blocked funding by the GOP. Heard of the Federal Highway Bill? Never voted on by the GOP in the House. You bigots are so scared that the recovery is gaining more and more steam and you wish the election was tomorrow so you could cut short the recovery. The idiots in the GOP brought us Two Great Depressions with their/your failed policies and then the GOP blocked every stimulus package put forward to stimulate the economy. I know the GOP doesn't know what stimulate means or how to do it but that's because you all are uptight pricks. What is the GOP voting on next week stripping women of their right to vote? Are they trying to figure out how birth control works? It's obvious the GOP almost never has sex because they all have so few children and they don't know how birth control works! Rush, you better pop a birthie in your dates drink so she doesn't get pregnant.

Just calling a spade a spade. What color is the sky in your world? It was the GOP who blocked every stimulus and any other measure except stripping women's birth control and you say the President is divisive. LOL.Surely you will remember, it was the GOP who set as their #1 goal making President Obama a one term President. Not creating jobs. Not upholding the Constitution. Not repairing the mess that happened under their watch. Not trying to move the Nation forward but rather trying with all you and their might to prevent any improvement whatsoever. You guys didn't like President Obama from the beginning of his administration before even the first piece of legislation was proposed and choose to block every measure based not on policy of which they have put forth none (except to strip birth control). if a bunch of bigots hate the President and divide themselves from the work of repairing the mess the GOP caused then it isn't the Presidents fault the Nation is divided its the bigots fault. I know many poorer, whiter, uneducated people like to consider in their own minds that somehow they are "taking back" their Country. If I had to guess you have uttered that phrase? So who is divisive again? The people who feel a need to "take back" their country or the guy trying to fix the historic mess with which your guy left him and us.

Romney cannot beat OBAMA. The only GOP candidate who could have beaten this impostor was Rick Perry and he got bounced out. Romney has too much baggage - religious, wealth, family, Los colonias Romneys in Mejico, and his support for socialized medicine. He cannot win and it is too late to cultivate another GOP candidate. I was hoping beyond hope that there would be no more OBAMANATION, but it is not meant to be. By the time this guy does another 4 years, we won't even recognize America, if it is still around.

Absolutely. In fact lets see everyone's documentation when they run for office. Transparency. There should be a specifically outlined procedure where the candidates (for all government office state and federal) lay out their proof of eligibility to serve. I am one of those that assumed there was a clear cut process of verification of things like citizenship, age, etc... as outlined in the definitions of ability to serve. President Obama, therefore must be a citizen and eligible to serve. At a bare minimum, I would have believed that the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security and someone from the electoral process verfies anyone who becomes a clear candidate for POTUS. Of course, each organization may have assumed someone else was performing those checks since there is no clear cut 'public and transparent' process established.

The fact that the question could be, and was raised indicates a failure in government transparency. The fact that the administration delayed in producing a public document gave the accusation creedence. The fact that other commonly available documents concerning the President are still unavailable suggests there may be something there to see, even if it was just 'gaming the system to get better tuition rates' in college. (who really cares)

Barack Obama IS the President of the United States, so all of the above doesn't really matter. But going forward, lets have transparency in the process and an official presentation of the documents of eligibility for all those vying for political office. Then the question can no longer be raised.

We are becoming a nation of authors, except none of them would have literary excellence. A winning team? Boy, you have low expectations!

You've gone down that path before. Hell, thousands of kids are murdered each year, and I don't see you up there at the podium spilling your bullsh** for your own agenda. But this one was just such good timing (politically and racially) wasn't it Mr. President?

Or, the police officer (white) was totally out of line and did something idiotic.

Or, the wealthy (those over $200,000 a year - which isn't a lot for families in the big cities of America) should be paying fair share. Like they aren't already? 49% of Americans don't pay one cent in federal income taxes.

The list could go on and on. This man is the epitome of a progressive-liberal community organizer and nothing else! Hell, a lot of his home city of Chicago is still a shi*-hole. It is absolutely ridiculous that we, the greenie's of the globe, are good with oil being produced in countries that have no care about the environment, that are our enemies, and are robbing us blind! God forbid we take oil out of the ground right here were we own it and can do it safely.

Peter Arsuaga...If you call 08 a "bad financial crisis." WHAT do you call it NOW? Is there even a bad ENOUGH word to lable it now? The price of gas isn't Obama's fault? How then was it Bush's "fault" when it went up to a whopping $1.89 a gal.? You have a short and very selective memory there Pete. The bank deregulation was the creation of a DEMOCRATIC Congress. "Republicans "eat their young"..? The Democrats want to eat everyone's young. Or should I say, everyone else's young.

That's pretty weak dude.. and you know it. He's not allowed to console a grieving mother in a case that has brought hundreds of people to the streets? $200,000 + / per year paying a bit more isn't outrageous as we need to get this debt under control. Then we can go to a flatter tax.

The Americans that don't pay tax don't pay for a reason, they're at or below the poverty line and scraping by.

To Peter Arsuaga: I quit asking myself a long, long, long time ago if they are truly that stupid. I didn't have to ask anymore because the answer was and is always a resounding YES they are that stupid. They caused the economic mess of historic proportions. Then in the minority they use procedural tricks to block any stimulus or job creation bills like the Annual Highway Bill, the NEXGEN Air Traffic control system or the Infrastructure/Job Bank to name a few of the Job creation Bills the GOP unpatriotically crushed at all our expense so they can achieve their #1 goal of making the President a one term President. Every time I read , write or hear that #1 goal it makes my blood boil! Unpatriotic rats! They put forth no new ideas and they sit back and blame everyone else for their mess but selfishly they never look in the mirror to see where all the problems begin. Push, pull or get out of the way. We don't need anymore stonewalling GOP unpatriotic rats.

Hopeful American--I take it you get paid ten cents for every post on blogs/newsites. I've seen that job on eLance--didn't look all that attractive to me.

You don't like Americans who don't pay taxes--well, by golly, I guess all those three-year-olds in Pull-ups had better start pulling themselves up by their shoelaces . . . ummmm, Velcro sneaker straps!

You do know that the bogus percentage of "Americans who don't pay taxes" includes all children who have no jobs, all the retired elderly who have no jobs, and all the unemployed who . . . have no jobs. One has to have a job before one pays federal income tax. I really don't think that three-year-olds have a choice about depending on others.

As far as America improving, even Boehner is admitting that America is doing better. As far as people being "on the dole"--we did away with that back during the Clinton era. We have so many homeless people because we don't really have a "dole" any more. One can get some help--but not really enough to subsist on for more than a year or so.

A lot of people who are in serious need of a reality check get up and "go to work"--working does not mean you aren't in need of some meds. Though, personally, it is really more critical thinking skills that you need to work on.

Here's something that should scare you--I don't really care if Romney wins in November because Romney isn't a dope. Remember that he's the one who signed "Romneycare" into law. Remember that he was pro-choice before he started pretending to be anti-abortion. Remember that he is from one of the most liberal states in the country. There's not a lot of distinction between Romney and Obama--despite Romney's two-faced lies to his "right wing base." He hasn't got a single intention of living up to any of the things he's said to them.

His campaign wasn't kidding--they will erase everything he's been saying for the last year and replace it with more middle-of-the-road things such as Obama says. And, anyone who thinks that Obama is far-left has really lost grip of reality. The far left dislikes Obama because he is an "Uncle Tom." Romney and Obama are center-right and center-left. I really don't get that animated about the choice between them because I'm not dumb enough to think that there is an "America" that needs to "get back to being America."

The US is pretty much the same as it was before--only we have one fewer war, no one playing games of "Starve the Beast," a better international reputation, a recovering economy, and politics that the majority of the people (obviously not you) have been returning to the center so that we can try to fix things.

The Trayvon Martin thing is sad--I doubt that the murderer can be brought to justice because of the silly, partisan law that was enacted in Florida. Hopefully--especially since both the white people and the black people in the community where Martin was murdered are horrified, equally horrified, that it happened--that law will be changed so that the Zimmermans who think they can hide behind it, can't. It's just a bad law that needs changing--and the parents have no investment in politics. They just wanted some justice--and since they won't get it through the criminal justice system, I hope it comes through civil court, because some laws only change when they hit people in the pocketbook.

By the by--name all those major policy changes under GW Bush that favored the fundamentalist evangelical Christians rather than those nasty liberals. Remember that the Federal Defense of Marriage Act was done under Clinton. Bush never passed that anti-gay marriage law. He never got a substantial anti-abortion law. His staff made fun of the evangelicals who came to chat with Bush at the White House the minute their backs were turned. Bush tried to pass an amnesty bill for "illegals." He did help pass TARP I. Bush dramatically increased the size of the federal government (remember Homeland Security--that's not exactly a small agency), and so on, and so forth.

It would be nice if when you got up each day, you'd spend a little time in documentable reality rather than in that fantasy world. Have a great one.

Those hopeful of Romney winning are in denial if he gets the nomination. Did you forget the occupy movements. Sure they were against every politician, but I think it is safe to say they were more anti-Republican than Democrat. Then you forget all the teachers now know better not to vote for Republican or they will all loose their jobs. Most of the young voters also love Obama. Those who lost their jobs in 2007 will also vote Obama over Romney. Those who lost their jobs due to Bain Capital would also vote Obama over Romney. The list goes on. Although, taken out of context, Santorum did say one thing right: "Romney is the worst Republican candidate to go against Obama."

"Gas is over 100% higher from the day Odumbo took office"

The President doesn't control gas prices. Gas prices were this high under Bush during the summer of '08.

"He negotiates with the Vice-President of Russia without letting the American people know he's making post election deals"

The President isn't obligated to let the American people know about any in advance, just like Republican Presidents like Bush who planned to go into Iraq early in his administration. A compromise with the Russians on missile defense would benefit both sides.

"Millions of jobs have been wiped of the books, never to come bac"

That was Bush's doing. Stopping the avalanche of job loss was impossible. We got into this mess from the starving the beast policies of Republicans. Cut revenues, go into deficit spending, all to have an excuse to cut entitlements.

"Unemployment is still nationally over 8% and much higher in lots of areas of the country"

By the time the election is here unemployment will be below when Obama took office. Too bad for Republicans.

"We are more divided as a country than we have been in 50 years because of his economic, racial and social divisive policies, practices and crap that comes out of his mouth"

Blame Republicans, who made it clear once Obama was elected that it was their number one objective to make Obama a one term President. Then blocking, stalling, and obstructing everything Obama wanted including things they would normally support.

Romney - The liberals' favorite GOP Candidate. Don't vote for Romney.
Please tell all your friends to vote, we need a big turnout. These are a few reasons why Romney is considered liberal:
                      1) Romney created RomneyCare which ObamaCare is based on. Kennedy
helped develop RomneyCare. Romney said he would repeal ObamaCare. Why
would he if he supports RomneyCare, he is not telling the truth.
                      2) Most decisions Romney made as Govenor was liberal, not
conservative. So, what make you think he will be conservative all of a
                      sudden?
                      3) Romney lost to McCain by a landslide last GOP Primary, and McCain
lost to Obama by a landslide. So, how is Romney going to win this
                      time?
                      4) When Obama wishes Romney well in the election and name calls and

Let me guess. You're a Democrat who signed up with another account a few days ago to try anyone you can away from the one candidate who can beat Obama.

But i tell you rubio has too many kids. Like most catholics. They should be allowed and told to wear condoms. If everybody in the world averaged 4 kids like rubio, the world's population would double every 20 years. 110B people in 2090. Too fast. Even at the current rate of 350% every 80 years we will have 25B in 2090, up from only 2B in 1930.

A lot of minorities, African Americans in particular must be Catholic then.

They already tried that one on us marshall. In the 60's they told us to quit having so many kids or we were going to overpopulate the U. S. We did. And, what happened? Half of Mexico and Central America and Viet Nam and God only knows where else came over and filled the space we left by not having American kids.

It's time for Americans to go back to having 4 to 6 kids. Catholic or not.

charles--If African Americans were having 4 kids and European Americans were having less than 2 (and each group only married the other), then African Americans would have doubled their part of the population by now. They haven't.

African Americans have slightly more children than European Americans--mostly because they have less access to birth control. Hispanic Americans have about 2.5 children per female. Hispanic Americans are the group that is increasing the most quickly--yes, because they are Catholic.

TexasGramou812--there are only about 12 million illegal immigrants. We do not have half of Mexico, Central America, and Vietnam (Vietnamese immigrants were allies of the US--you do know that, right? They emigrated because otherwise they would have been killed).

In 2000, immigrants numbered 31.1 million and comprised 11.1 percent of the U.S. population. That year marked the end of a decade with the largest numerical increase in immigrants this country has ever experienced.

The first decade of the 21st century saw continued growth—with 8.8 million more immigrants living here in 2010 than 2000, a 28 percent increase. That growth, however, was slower than in the 1990s when the United States gained 11.3 million immigrants, a 57 percent increase between 1990 and 2000.

The growth of recent decades reverses and exceeds mid-century losses. Between 1930 and 1960, the number of immigrants in the U.S. dropped following slowed immigration from Europe. After major immigration reform passed in 1965 that opened the door to more immigrants from non-European countries, the foreign-born population began to grow again in the 1970s and 1980s before burgeoning in the 1990s. The growth in the 2000s represents something of a return to the upward trend established before the 1990s.

We do not have that many immigrants here. It is around 10-15% of the population--far lower than it was in the 1800s, when we had lots and lots and lots of immigrants. Even though the number is higher now, we have more people overall, and so the percent is lower.

Wouldn't it be nice if people would stick to documentable reality? Oh, and guys, African Americans and Hispanic Americans are, you know, Americans. Just in passing.

I think Obama has laid to rest the notion of a good orator translating into a good president. Obama has to be one of the best smooth talkers of all time. Who else could campaign their way to a Nobel Peace prize.

Most already knew who the VP candidate was going to be. Florida is a must win state for the Republicans and Democrats alike. Not only will Romney be able to expose Obama's record and failures as president, but he will also have a leg up on him in taking Florida once Rubio joins the ticket.

                                    Romney/Rubio versus Obama/Biden

Rubio respects Romney and his accomplishments and thinks he's the right man for the job.

Biden and Hillary both warned us that Obama was unqualified to be president. We should of listened.

What was the personal expense? I usually dismiss these things anymore. First, this is just a complaint. Sarah Palin had a complaint against her for wearing the jacket of her husbands sponsor when she started a snow mobilie race. Sen. Stevens from Alaska got hit with a violation because someone gave him a dog and he didn't report it. The husky was given to him by a friend, but the dog had a potential value of over $400. If it is bad like Charlie Wrangell's, let me know but otherwise, most of this is trumped up political junk.

I think Romney will literally save our country from financial ruin. He is brilliant when it comes to managing budgets and organizations. He won't shy away from making the tough money decisions. He will trim a bloated government. And he will restore our status in the world.

President Obama has been, in my opinion, too quick to simply throw money at a problem. I think Romney will think things through, come up with a valid game plan, and then spend only the minimum amount of money that is needed to fix our problems.

That is my belief....that is my hope.

Romney: He will give it everything he's got....he will save our country!

Well, the guy we have in there now seems to have no clue on how to help America. His policies seem to be designed to slow down a recovery or make our future worse off. He has yet to propose a policy that makes the US more competitive.

I've been paying attention to reality instead of just buying into political rhetoric. I bet you can't name 3 things Obama has proposed that would make our country more competitive. Open your eyes and quit being used.

                                            And Rubio, an illegal alien.

HA! G Dub left this country in such economic and diplomatic shambles. And the GOP expects POTUS to clean it all up in three years? Silence is deafening, huh? I want to know which GOP candidate would even touch that endorsement.

Funny how the GOP wants to continue most of the Bush policies but doesn't want the former President's endorsement.
