Bush 41 to endorse Romney (again)

Tomorrow in Houston, former President George H.W. Bush will appear with Mitt Romney and formally offer his endorsement of of the former Massachusetts governor for president, the Romney campaign confirms to NBC News.

The formal endorsement at the former president's office in downtown Houston comes after a series of quasi-endorsements by Bush -- in the form of newspaper interviews and public comments praising Romney, and on the heels of the recent endorsement by Bush's son Jeb, the former governor of Florida.

In Houston, Romney will appear before the media with Bush and his wife, former First Lady Barbara Bush, for the first time since the couple told the Houston Chronicle they were supporting Romney. The couple has been somewhat active in supporting Romney's candidacy already, with Mrs. Bush recording robo-calls for Romney in Ohio and Vermont.

"Mitt and Ann are dear friends of George and Barbara. Governor Romney is honored to have their endorsement," a Romney aide told NBC News this morning.

When Dubya became president, the country was at peace, the national debt had been cut in half. National unemployment was at its lowest in decades, and the economy was stable. After 8 years in office, this rich man's son who was working as a hobby, had embroiled us in two wars, quadrupled the national debt, managed to raise unemployment to levels not seen since the Great Depression, and nearly brought the economy to its knees. Yes, yes, yes! Let's all follow his advice and give another rich man's son the job! NOT!!!

Dubya managed to run every single company he ever ran right into bankruptcy. It was no different when he ran the government, except he didn't have quite enough time to completely destroy the American ecomony, almost, but not quite.

@ bigbenalaska

So, with an obstructionist Congress set on self enrichment and more for the top 1%, he couldn't fix what Dubya took 8 years to wreck. Are you really surprised? Maybe if Congress was as concerned with doing what's right for the country instead of how to make Wall Street and big bankers richer than ever, some of the problems would have been fixed. With Mittens in the White House, everyone in the middle class will be paying 50% income tax so the 1% don't have to pay any.

    How hard did Pappy Bush have to hold his nose?

    In other news, this is sure to upset the RWNJ's;

    Quinnipiac University is out with a series of new swing state polls on Wednesday morning showing generally good news for President Obama.

    In Florida, Obama tops Mitt Romney 49 percent to 42 percent; while beating Rick Santorum 50 percent to 37 percent.

    In Ohio, Obama beats Romney 47 to 41 percent and Santorum 47 to 40 percent.

    In Pennsylvania, Obama edges Romney 45 to 42 percent, while topping Santorum 48 to 41 percent.

    In the new poll, 50 percent of all adults and 52 percent of registered voters express unfavorable opinions of Romney, both higher -- although marginally -- than Obama has received in Post-ABC polling as far back as late 2006. However, the biggest difference between Romney and Obama is on the other side of the ledger: 53 percent of Americans hold favorable views of the president; for Romney, that number slides to 34 percent.

      Not looking good for ObamaCare:

      Picking up where they left off Tuesday, the conservatives said they thought a decision striking down the law's controversial individual mandate to purchase health insurance means the whole statute should fall with it.

      The court’s conservatives sounded as though they had determined for themselves that the 2,700-page measure must be declared unconstitutional.

      "One way or another, Congress will have to revisit it in toto," said Justice Antonin Scalia.

      Agreeing, Justice Anthony Kennedy said it would be an "extreme proposition" to allow the various insurance regulations to stand after the mandate was struck down.

      Liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg weakly attempted to salvage something from ObamaCare:

      Meanwhile, the court's liberal justices argued for restraint. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said the court should do a "salvage job," not undertake a “wrecking operation." But she looked to be out-voted.

      Maybe Bob the McDonnell who will never be VP probe guy could explain why it is not okay for government to mandate purchase of health care when every person uses it from the time of birth but why republicans think it is okay for government to mandate a medically unncessary, expensive and invasive ultrasound and order doctors to perform it and to be paid for by the woman placing government smack dab into the doctor's offices and private lives. Can't have it both ways GOP. It is not a question of freedom in one case without it being a question of freedom in the other. Go ahead, Bob, explain it.

      JAS1, personally, I don't like the freedom to keep paying for the free-loaders (uninsured) who show up at the ER and must be treated/stabilized regardless of their abilitly to pay.

      Seems like you should support making folks take 'personal responsibility' (pay) for their own health insurance rather than visiting it on the insured population.

      The insured end up paying for the uninsured.

      But your use of the word freedom is rather limiting. The word freedom always includes freedom from and freedom for...The word never sands alone.

      I myself see the courts as a place for justice. so I will take my word and speculate how our country would look if we had justice for all to see a doctor, treat diseases, promote wellness and comfort the dieing.

      If Romney had stronger competition, Bush's endorsement would have spelled certain death for his campaign. At this point it appears Romney is the chosen one on the GOP side and it was safe for Bush to make an endorsement without losing face on another issue.

      I saw your post ( #2 ) and the article. This has to be very bad news for the GOP. As long as the numbers continue like this we could have a landslide election not seen in quite some time. President Obama is shoring up some very large numbers of the electorate w/PA, FL,and OH along with the almost certain numbers from the largest states of CA and NY. Difficult at best for the GOP to do anything but cry in their beer at the bowling alley at this point.

      It certainly appears at this point the election is Mr. Obama's to win or loose. He is sitting in a very comfortable position of watching a fractious GOP expend its coffers fighting within itself, unable to produce a candidate the party can rally around. When the primary dust settles how far can ABO carry/ unite the Republicans?

      I believe the SCOTUS decision on the AHC Act is going to weigh heavily upon the election. Interesting few months coming up!

      @Mark

      I would say your current analysis is pretty much on the mark. The only difference from previous campaigns is that the Obama campaign will not have the airwaves to itself when they "swiftboat' Romney. The Republican SuperPACS will also be on the air. I do think that Obama will be able to drive Romney's negatives even higher and I don't know how he'll recover from that.

      The swing states of Ohio and Pennsylvania are going to be interesting because neither candidate can connect with the voters there.

                    George H. W. Bush made the news today endorsing Romney. I think the last time Bush 41 made news is when he parachuted out of a plane or something. What I can’t believe is how the media had 25 yeas to do an in-depth investigation of G. H. W. Bush and his dealings as head of the CIA and the evil works done while he was Vice-President. How come everyone in the World suspects but so-called journalists never took the time to find out the truth behind Ollie North, Iran-Contra, Tosh Plumblee, buried gold miners in Africa, covering up his sons crimes or abortions, laundering cocaine profits through GOP campaign contributions and the sabotaging of the Iran Hostage rescue mission during the Carter Presidency.

                    I could go on with more legitimate evidence against the Bush Crime Family but why beat a dead horse. Bush 41 and 43 will soon be in Hell’s everlasting “enhanced interrogation techniques”

                    Our Justice system is a joke when it comes to the rich W.A.S.P.’s. The LAW would rather abuse the “little people” while the silver spoon trust baby con artist ravage and expatriate most of our nation’s wealth and resources. I know, I KNOW… it just a coincidence every time a Bush is in the White House Americans have to suffer through a banking/financial crisis.

                    YES! The results of Reagan/Bush, Bush/Cheney and the Republican controlled Congress (1994-2006) speak for themselves. Waste, fraud, abuse of power, scandal, corruption, media consolidation, sexual deviancy, welfare for the rich, soldiers getting electrocuted in showers, arms dealing, environmental deregulation, war profiteering, Constitutional violations and a corporate crime wave of epic proportions.
