Gingrich: The goal is to defeat Obama

BATON ROUGE, La. – Newt Gingrich spoke up in defense of Mitt Romney Thursday night, insisting any Republican presidential candidate would be a better president than Barack Obama.

"I want to start with something Rick said tonight that I frankly was very surprised that he said and that I hope he's taking back,” Gingrich told the Baton Rouge Tea Party event crowd referring to Rick Santorum’s comments earlier today.

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum told a crowd of supporters in Texas Thursday that the GOP might be better off sticking with President Obama than "taking a risk" on MittĀ  Romney, who he referred to as the "Etch A Sketch candidate."

Santorum, addressing a crowd in San Antonio, Texas this afternoon took a swipe at Romney, saying, "If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future.”

But Gingrich argued that re-electing Obama would be a “disaster” and Republicans have an obligation to do better.

Speaking on the campus of Louisiana State University, the former House Speaker told the few hundred person crowd they have no choice.

“I may have some very substantial disagreements with Gov. Romney. There is no doubt in my mind that if the choice was Gov. Romney or Barack Obama, we would have no choice,” Gingrich said. “The danger of Obama is so great that I would hope that every candidate running – Ron Paul, Gov. Romney and Sen. Santorum – that we would all agree that whoever becomes the Republican nominee, we have one common goal and that is to defeat Barack Obama."

While Gingrich finds faults with his GOP rivals, he has told crowds throughout his campaign that any of the other candidates are superior to the current president.

In closing his speech tonight, Gingrich laid out why he believes he is still the best candidate to take on Obama in the fall.

“Getting Washington to change in fundamental ways is going to be very, very hard.  You had better have somebody who wakes up every single morning prepared to fight. Because if you don’t have somebody who knows what they’re doing and has the willpower and the energy and the focus to do it, they’re going to make nice speeches and fail,” Gingrich said, noting that winning the Louisiana primary on Saturday would help reset this race once again.

      bhofailed,

You are correct. He looks presidential, sounds presidential, makes a great speech only with a teleprompter, but when it comes down to it he has proven over and over again that he doesn't know what the hell he is doing.

When he campaigned for President he said he would cut our budget deficit 50%, from $10 trillion to $5 trillion. Its now 50% higher at $15 trillion.

I heard recently that when Bush left office the budget deficit amounted to around $30,000 per person. Now, under Obama its $50,000 per person, and under his ten year budget proposal, it will go up to 80,000 per person.

Is that change you can believe in? That's change I can live without.

Santorum is going to ruin it for the Republicans. He is desperate to be the Republican candidate, and is hurting the Republican drive to beat Obama. He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Obama if he is the Republican candidate and should just drop out. Gingrich could possibly beat Obama, but he doesn't have a chance to be the candidate anymore. Who knows why the hell Ron Paul is in the race. Paul's efforts have to be the biggest act of futility in political history.

Mitt Romney is the best bet we have going in beating Obama and ousting a communist administration that is bad for America and freedom.

              Quote from Thomas Sowell:

"The question becomes whether the candidate is someone who is likely to defeat Barack Obama.

If not, then the fate of America -- and of Western nations, including Israel -- will be left in the hands of a man with a lifelong hostility to Western values and Western interests.

President Obama is such a genial man that many people, across the ideological space, cannot see him as a danger.

For every hundred people who can see his geniality, probably only a handful see the grave danger his warped policies and ruthless tactics pose to a whole way of life that has given generation after generation of Americans unprecedented freedom and prosperity.

The election next November will not be just another election, and the stakes add up to far more than the sum of the individual issues. Moreover, if reelected and facing no future election, whatever political constraints may have limited how far Obama would push his radical agenda will be gone.

He would have the closest thing to a blank check. Nothing could stop him but impeachment or a military coup, and both are very unlikely. A genial corrupter is all the more dangerous for being genial."

Clinton cant be president again but newt is running. newt, not obama; is the one with the record of working with the other side. you leftnuts can try to run away from historical facts but it wont work; they have a way of creeping back up.

newt balanced Clinton's budgets. obama has EXPANDED welfare and dems want to raise the capital gains tax. and as for budgets Dems in charge of the House under Pelosi DIDNT EVEN BOTHER TO WRITE BUDGETS for two years.

Personally, I have no problem voting a the "right" president regardless of his party affiliation as long as he/she is doing a good job. Can Romney, Santorum or even Mr. Gingrich do a better job than Obama? So far they have not shown me anything that would lead me to believe any of them can do a better job than Obama.

You can't call Obama unqualified and then argue that anyone that wins the nomination to be president is inherently qualified.

Newt and Republicans worked with Clinton and balanced his budgets and passed welfare reform. none of this happened in Clinton's first 2 years when he had a Dem-majority Congress.

newt; not obama, is the one with the record of working with the other side for the betterment of America. NEWT EVEN TRIED TO GIVE CLINTON THE LINE-ITEM VETO but that was opposed by YOUR OWN DEMS.

obama and dems on the other hand have CONTINUED BUSH'S POLICIES; but all you hear from liberal losers is how they were "held hostage" and somehow forced to do it. So basically you wanted to "OBSTRUCT" every bit as much as you accuse Repubs of doing, but couldnt even get that right? OR you willingly continued Republican policies; which is it?

He opposed the Clinton tax hike and budget cuts and had his GOP robots vote against both. The Dems won despite Newt and the country had a surplass which Bush then wasted on his pesonal war on Saddam. " who dont care a whit about the nation.............." honestly why do you want to waste your time with long but stupid posts filled with hyperbole then think you are being anything close to rational? is it because you are blissfully ignorant of your own bias?

Newt,...that has been the GOP's goal since day one of the Obama administration,...

.....but it is not the goal for the rest of the nation, because we are not all 1%ers and in the pocket of big business.

                                TO THE 99% :

We must unite and fight the domination of our national interests by big money and big business.

To all minorities and non-minorities with a conscience and morals not driven purely by dollar signs:

It is one of the GOP's main goals to make a failure of the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT and underline the unworthiness of anything other than the firmly entrenched wealthy white power structure that has existed since our country began.

IF WE DON'T MAKE SURE THAT BARACK OBAMA, OUR FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT GETS A SECOND TERM,....WE ARE SAYING TO FUTURE GENERATIONS

                                "BLACK PRESIDENT = FAILURE"

HOW WILL WE DEFINE THE LEGACY OF OUR FIRST MINORITY PRESIDENT ?

HOW WILL WE DEFINE THE LEGACY OF OUR FIRST MINORITY PRESIDENT ?

THE GOP HAS FOUGHT EVERY MOVE HE HAS MADE ON OUR BEHALF TO PROTECT THEIR OWN BOTTOM LINE EXCLUSIVELY. (GUESS WHAT : If you take the middle and lower class out of the equation and gouge them at every turn,...you "save money",..."we can't have this democrat keep us from undermining them")

STAND TOGETHER FOR THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE.

UNITE AGAINST CORPORATE DOMINANCE AND SHOW SUPPORT FOR U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA THIS NOVEMBER.

more asinine race cars stupidity from the loser left; and a repeat of the same stupidity posted earlier. do you get these things spoon-fed to you/ or is it you took so long making this one up you actually think it's worth something?

obama calls HIMSELF black. he's fully half-White. if he called himself White Dems wouldnt even have nominated him; being he only had one lousy year of experience in the Senate. the "one drop" race rule is DEMOCRAT'S RULE and a leftover from the DEMOCRATIC JIM CROW SOUTH. but the loser left doesnt mind stereotyping itself to try to make a broader point, no matter how dishonest. you guys are crybabies and hypocrites.

I do think it is the 1%ers that went to the White House and demanded they raise their taxes. It's sad when even the rich know they're screwing the American people too much.

But, we got the common man, bhofailed, supporting the rich as he gets poorer. He even believes:

                                bhofailed

gingrich is much smarter than obama

How sad is that?? The poor guy is blinded by his politics. FOX must be using subliminal messages in the news.

you're a genius; so you DO THINK it's not rich people able to pay $40,000 per plate for dinner with obama? or are you too stupid to comprehend the fact that the people closest to the ones making the rules will know how to shield their money from the new rules? want an example? how about charlie rangel or tim geithner?

Look bhofailed, you don't need me or anyone else to tell you Gingrich's shortcomings.

You already know his morals are flawed. You know he was kicked out of the republican party. You know he is staying in the race to make sure Santorum isn't nominated.

If, at the end of the polling booth line, you feel Gingrich will best suit our country, go ahead and pull the lever for him.

I have serious issues myself with him. Tiffany's will want their money for one, a lobbyist as president is another.

Obviously, you aren't going to change your mind about it so have at it.

May the best man win, eh?
