On the very day that Mitt Romney picked up a key endorsement from former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), his campaign is now receiving criticism after a top adviser suggested that Romney could hit a "reset button" in the general election -- like someone shaking up an "Etch A Sketch."
On CNN this morning, adviser Eric Fehrnstrom -- who worked for Romney when he was Massachusetts governor, as well as on his two presidential campaigns -- was asked if he was concerned that the GOP primary has forced Romney too far to the right, which could hurt him with moderate voters in the general.
Fehrnstrom's answer: "Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again."
He added, "But I will say, if you look at the exit polling data in Illinois, you'll see that Mitt Romney is broadly acceptable to most of the factions in the party. You have to do that in order to become the major party nominee. He's winning conservatives; he's winning Tea Party voters; he's winning men, women; he's winning Catholics and Protestants."
The Santorum campaign quickly seized on Fehrnstrom's "Etch A Sketch" comment, charging that it was an admission that Romney will abandon his conservative positions in a general election.
"We all knew Mitt Romney didn't have any core convictions, but we appreciate his staff going on national television to affirm that point for anyone who had any doubts," said Santorum spokesman Hogan Gidley. "Voters can trust that Rick Santorum will say what he believes, and do what he says. They may not always agree with Rick Santorum, but they can trust him because they know he is a man of principle. Clearly, the same cannot be said of Governor Romney."
The Obama campaign also piled on. Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter tweeted that Fehrnstrom "says on CNN that Romney will erase his hard right positions in general election like an etch-a-sketch. Yeah, don't think so."
While it's commonplace for a general-election candidate to tack back to the center in a general election -- think Barack Obama shifting his position on renegotiating NAFTA -- this is particularly tricky territory for Romney, who once supported abortion rights (but now opposes them), who raised fees and revenues as Massachusetts governor (but now opposes that), and who championed an individual health-care mandate in his state (but now opposes a federal one).

Really?
Whe he was asked if he felt that Romney might be being pushed to far to the right He says: Fehrnstrom's answer: "Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again."
In other words: We'll say and do what ever it takes to become the next president. If you don't like our answers today, wait until tomorrow and we'll give you a new one!
As opposed to Obama who supported the closing of Gitmo, but didn't, who opposed the Bush tax cuts, but extended them, that was critical of raising the debt ceiling when he was a Senator, but was for raising the debt ceiling as President, who blamed Bush for higher gas prices in 2008, but says he has nothing to do with the cost of gas in 2012.
Way to go! now we know for sure how bad the Weather Vane's handlers really are.
"What a maroon!" Bugs Bunny
Extra points for Looney Tunes references!
How about this visual. Obama and Romney standing next to a tree, pulling down layers of a posted sign: Donkey Season, Elephant Season, Donkey Season, Elephant Season...
Etch-a-Sketch! LOL. I couldn't have summed up Romney any better if I tried! Thanks Mr. Fehrnstrom for that "flat" visual. It's hilarious.
More fitting description for those two buffoons then a "Light Bright"!
You're right Feisty. Etch-a-Sketch came out when; the 60's or so? That's about where the GOP would like to once again take this nation it seems.
Before I get any more flustered about these baffoons i think I'll take my leave early today.
Keep up the great posts Feisty. I'll be here tomorrow to catch up with you and the other loyal FR people!
Sometimes best to take a break - I myself am posting on the 'fly' today!
Enjoy your afternoon!
I took smiffy to the malt shop, and now I have to Scratch-A-Itch.
Oh Dear!
Is there medication strong enough to cure that Buzz?
LMAO!
Bobby playing to much "Operation" in his youth would certainly explain his fascination with probing (red-nosed bzzzzzzzzzzzzz).
He's widely favorable amongst many aspects of the party?
No, he's only accepted because he's all they got.

"What about Obama"?
Typical teapublican response - don't address the topic at hand - and one I might say was initiated by Romneys own person....
Since you can't defend Romney - deflect the topic...
What I like best about your post - you are virtually acknowledging Romney is a liar - will be a liar.....but that is okay with you!
You don't want your candidate to set "higher standards"....status quo will be alright with you!
Must see visual!! Romney is pictured in Etch-a-Sketch. ; )
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/romney-campaign-reiterates-reset-button-line-opponents-pounce-164442085.html
Shake it up baby!
On Gitmo - you can read why it wasn't closed despite Obama pushing for it. In short: Congress denied funds for it, and also banned transfer of the prisoners to the continental IS.
Every politician running for President does this. They generally don't overtly admit it like this but they do it. They all do it. Santorum cracks me up because he really wants you to believe he wouldn't do that. Running for President and being President are two entirely different things. As we find out over and over and over again.
This is another reason why less than 50% of the party vote for him.
Isn't Etch-A-Sketch still made in Ohio. Maybe this will give some of our industry a boom. Nothing else seems to be working--least of all Santorum or Romney.
As you SHOULD know, President Obama tried to close Gitmo but republicans in congress blocked his efforts to do so by denying the funds needed to do it and by banning the transfer of the prisoners to the continental IS.
Obama also was consistent in his opposition to the Bush tax cuts. He ended up having to compromise and allow them to be extended because the republicans all joined hands and used the filibuster to block ANY budget from passing unless the Bush tax cuts were extended.
Thanks, though, for giving us such a nice example of classic republican strategy: block EVERYTHING President Obama tries to do, then blame him when nothing gets done.
It reminds me a lot of their approach to privitizing everything: They defund good, effective government programs until they become ineffective. Then they argue that we should privitize them because, hey hey, look how ineffective they are!
Obama's folks have zero room to throw darts here, as he shakes the Etch-a-Sketch multiple times a day, depending on who the audience is.
With that said, it seems to be what politicians do these days, and no one seems concerned anymore that none of them keep their word. Heck, we don't even expect them too... We say things like, "Well, that was so-and-so the candidate speaking, but now he is finding it's harder than that to govern." It would be wonderful to elect a positive candidate based on core principles, but sadly, we are finding that negative campaigning works better than positive campaigning, and telling each audience what they want to hear works better than being honest to your core set of principles.
Perhaps the problem is US, and not the candidates. Maybe we should demand more of them. Maybe we should demand more of ourselves.
Don't burden JAS1 with facts.
Jo Anna - give it a rest , please ? - your arguments are old, worn out and complete crap.
As much as I hate people going back on what they are saying, especially those running for President, there is another factor that comes into play. People running for President may not always realize that there are some things that are more complicated than they seem and their plans on doing something different would have to be postponed or the current decision has to stand. Remember, former presidents meet with newly elected presidents to pass on information or discuss things that are not allowed to pass beyond the room they spoke in. Just something to keep in mind. But regarding getting the votes candidates need, it's obvious what is going on and come Novemeber people will show the candidates what they think.
An "Etch-a-Sketch" - that's priceless !!!
With friends like these , Romney doesn't need enemies.
He signed an executive order to close it, however it was up to congress to fund the closing and transfer of prisoners, and they refused. Was not against the Bush tax cuts, but rather wanted to extend it for all but the top two brackets. Was forced to raise it for all by republiCON Senators. Was critical of raising the debt ceiling because it had to be raised because of tax cuts implemented by the Bush administration. Never blamed Bush for higher gas prices, but rather criticized Bush for trying to push the "drill baby drill" agenda.
I really don't think that Romney is acceptable to most...I think he is inevitable. This is due to the party elite banging the drum for him....the media pushing his inevitability and jumping on Romney's "seek and destroy" mission on all other possible candidates, and Romney's own buying of the nomination. He has been forced to spend unprecedented amounts in the primaries. If that is not buying a nomination, I don't know what is. My prediction...he will not win in the general. He is Obama-lite. Just because there is an "R" behind his name really doesn't mean anything.
JoAnnaSmith, are you really that naive, send me a million dollars and I'll send you 10 million, I promise.
All of the candidates, including Obama, need to grow up and stop pouncing on every sentence uttered by their opposition. What a bunch of immature crybabies...all of them!
All this just goes to the fact that Mitt "The Jobs Cremator" Romney is nothing more than a side-show phoney!
Obama / Biden 2012
@KMC
Much like Jo Anna herself.
I'll give Santorum 2 points for trying to work without a teleprompter.
It reminds us all that there is a proper way to give a proper speech, and just talking off the top of your head is not always a good idea.
Obama / Biden 2012
Gasp! Politicians telling you what you want to hear and then doing what they want afterward? What has this world come to (always been)?
Geez, next somebody's going to tell me that Newt really wasn't planning on having America's number one goal for the next eight years actually be a moon base! I want my vote back!
Too bad we don't have Britain's ability to force a 'vote of no confidence' on our government. Of course, then we'd be voting every month and not every 4 years.
If Mitt Romney even wants to be taken seriously he'll have to step away from this lunacy the far right is pushing otherwise he'll be beaten so badly in the general election he won't know what hit him. The GOP knows this fact. They know Rick Santorum doesn't stand a chance of winning in a the General election that is why they are insisting so stridently on Romney.
OF COURSE Romney going to be more liberal. He IS more liberal. When he gets into trouble is when he says what he really thinks and his lulu campaign with their bargain with the far right has to haul him in.
And let's face it, Mitt Romney, much like The Govenator, Ahnold is a RHINO. But that's okay. Obama leans toward being a DINO.
They are both too far right for my tastes.
Reading this thread is very amusing to someone who does not support candidates based on the letter next to there name, but on the records that they have. It only takes a small amount of research to learn the facts, then you can make a judgement. It is true that romney is a flip flopper and will say anything to get your vote, but is also true that Obama will do the same thing. I understand the argument that they tried there best, but I expect more from a president. I voted for Obama because i believed he would end the Wars, he has not. He promised to end them on his first day in office, didn't happen. If you think that romney is any different, then you are fooling yourselves. I will not bother to mention the issues with Newt and Satorum, they are obvious. There is only one man who has governed the way he campaigned, and that is Ron Paul! look it up.
So what's he saying? After Mitt gets the nomination they are going to turn him upside down and shake him and start all over?
Geez, seems a bit extreme...oops gotta go, it's time to take the muffins out of my easy-bake oven.
Obama/Biden 2012
Seriously?! Santorum out of ideas on how to actually win the nomination that this is what he has to resort to- attacking an advisor for Romney? What's next- going thru Romney's trash so he can attack how he eats? Talk about taking words out of context. This is just pathetic! And people really wonder why we have the quality of people we have in politics?! Hello!! Most people would not want to go thru this where everything they say, their advisors say, their supporters say, their friends say, their families say, etc. is all pulled out of context and twisted around.
The advisor was trying to say that things might be nasty now but in the fall they will all start over together to defeat Obama.
JoAnna: try and keep up. Congress passed a law FORBIDDING the closure of Gitmo. No way to spin that as an Obama "etch a sketch" moment and so silly of you, you don't even get any points for trying.
mj: you've hit it on the head. to claim, ridiculously, that Obama is governing from the far left, you'd have to be completely ignorant (luckily, in no short supply on the Republican side of the aisle), and such an extremist that anything left of Atilla the Hun is "progressive". suddenly health care is a 'liberal' plot, regardless of the fact Republican are the ones who first touted national health care to gain control over costs (with no single payer)--and who would have ever thought being "conservative" meant you are for forcing vaginal probes and needless invasive ultrasounds on women and still claiming you are for "limited" government? (How can you get the pitchforkers excited if you tell them the truth??)
Junicon
Forget it. JAS1 is impervious to facts and reason. The Gitmo line is only one of the talking points she repeats when you pull her chain. She already regurgitated the one about Obama and the Bush tax cuts above in the First Thoughts thread earlier today. You can't explain to her the difference between Romney's unprincipled flip-flops from "moderate progressive" to "severely conservative governor" and the concessions and compromises Obama has made in order to govern. You can't explain it to her because she doesn't WANT to understand. You can lead a right winger to facts, but you can't make her think.
Poor little JoAnnaSmith...she's like that monk in "The DaVinci Code" that goes to a cheap rented room and flogs himself....
There is zero chance I will vote for Mit, but people are so f'n stupid! State can have a mandate health insurance just like care insurance but the federal Government can not.
It is pretty simple, there is this little thing called the constitution that gets in the way of the Government having too much power.
Is he winning Jewish folks that they Baptize in absentia? Is he winning evangelicals that are aware that he believes that Jesus had 3 wives and a herd of children. Is he winning black folks vote, (which he believes are black as a punishment by God?)
I'm sure that he's winning the Swiss Bankers, corporate raiders, and junk bond peddler votes.
nomoresameo...
In other words: We'll say and do what ever it takes to become the next president. If you don't like our answers today, wait until tomorrow and we'll give you a new one!
Unlike our current politicker-n-chief, eh? Bwahahaha...LOL!
Damn you Libbies are so funny!
In other words, Mitt Romney has been lying all along, and once the campaign starts, he'll start telling DIFFERENT lies.
Is anybody surprised by this?
At least Rick Santorum believes the garbage that comes out of his mouth. All Romney wants is your money. ALL of it, and he'll say ANYTHING to get it.
Basically THIS.
That's why you don't see Republicans REALLY supporting Mitt Romney. Because they don't really like Romney... but he is the only one that has a chance at moderate votes.
Plus, look at their other options: Option (B) a theocratic fascist that wants to turn America into a country ruled by religious doctrine. Option (C) arguably the most corrupt politician of our lifetime, who is likely to abandon America when it gets sick. Or option (D) the king of the gnomes.
By default, Romney is the only plausible choice. Although I find it humorous that Republicans think Romney will be any different than Obama. Whatever helps them sleep at night, LOL.
Boy, listen to all the Obamabots...or in other words...sheeple
Gawd I love to hear you squirm...unable to face the fact that your messiah is a one termer. One and done! What's His approval rating these days? 41% hehehehe!
ABO 2012!
Or another possibility .... Nobody cares and 3 days from now nobody will even remember the comment. that 99.9% of the population could care less about today. Happens to every campaign from every party every campaign and gets a few hyper-partison people all giddy for a bit.
Most of the liberals of today clear their conscience by shaking the water out of their hair after a shower. Even the bald ones. Along with logic, integrity, and anything else that may have temporarily logged itself in one of the many crevices of their cranial cavity.
After the muck is thrown around he will likely shake things up and clear the slate. Then start tweaking the knobs to create a plan from scratch.
It's amazing I went to lunch with three attorneys the other day. A potential juror sat at a lunch table and began sharing various things about her life. 3 of us could remember nearly every detail of this womans conversation. The more liberal member of the group had difficulty grasping concepts, following for more than a second or two, remembering details other than things spoken about himself.
"41%"?
Well pick any poll you want - there is one that says 41%..others that say 46%, a couple at 50%..
How about you pick the poll that now shows Obama leading Romney bt 8 pts in Virginia..
Rereaad your psot "cantakeit"....the one who sounds like they are "squirming" is you!
What I get a kick out of is the right wing criticizing Obama for not closing gitmo etc., as justification for the liars they like, yet if he did, they would condemn him as a muslim lover or some other such nonsense. The hypocrisy is astounding.
sandtrich
yes, he is because these are the same people that claim that their definition of marriage and family values is superior to the rest of us, "lost" folks while they make exuses for child molesters and rapists. Like:
Republican anti-abortion activist Nicholas Morency of Camden who pled guilty to possessing child pornography on his computer and offering a bounty to anybody who murders an abortion doctor.
or
Republican activist and Christian Coalition and South Carolina Republican leader Beverly Russell admitted to an incestuous relationship with his step daughter.
or
Republican preacher Stephen White of West Chester, Pennsylvania, who demanded a return to traditional values, was sentenced to jail after offering $20 to a 14-year-old boy for permission to perform oral sex on him.
I can keep going on because the list is HUUUUUGE. Here is the link for anyone interested:

Romney will be the nominee, but he will never be President. This is just more media spin...must be a slow news day.
To the wise posters on these boards
I would like an answer to a rather vexing question. Where are the Republican heavy-weights in this presidential election, and the last one? Is this the best that the Republicans have to offer? If so, then this may well mean the demise of the GOP
joannasmith1-
your ignorance of historical events is staggering, even those in the recent past. you should stop swallowing the crap that fux feeds you. OMFG grow a brain.
one by one here:
-gitmo: dems want that place closed. period. republican'ts have blocked it's closure every step of the way
-bush tax cuts: are you fuxing kidding me?! REALLY?!
-raising the debt ceiling: the criticality of the economy that was left by bush left no choice but to dump money into the economy in order to avoid complete collapse. take a fuxin econ class please.
-gas prices: bush drove gas prices higher through a number of different means, including wars and collusion. he comes from big oil and fed his buddies cash. virtually all big oil companies are heavily supported by repuclican'ts. dems are trying to remove subsidies and steer the USA toward sustainable energy production that doesn't collapse ecosystems. opposed every step of the way by republican'ts.
THESE ARE FACTS. GO EDUCATE YOURSELF PLEASE.
cantakenomore all you have done is name call and provide nothing to the discussion.
You don't have any intelligent arguments and have to rely on the tired obamabots, sheeple, libtards etc.
All you are doing is making yourself look silly.
wow ... the R's never blocked gitmo as no legislation was ever put forth to do so. Even by the dems. He could have easily done it by executive order but didn't.
The tax policy you and people complain about could have been changed a couple of times. There was a super majority the dems had and he could have just let them expire.
Were we facing a complete collapse last summer when we went back to the well for another trillion and a half dollar deficit with that increase? not hardly
Bush caused high gas prices through collusion huh? LOL All the way up to $1.85 when he left office. Yep, that collusion there was killing me. LOL
A serious gaff. I'll be surprised if Fehrnstrom keeps his job. I hope Romney's campaign goes to pot, myself.
Fehrnstrom should have said restarting the campaign, not as it appears as if he meant Romney's stance on issues.
Meanwhile, back at the Obama camp... they are the ones that released this interview with Fehrnstrom. The democratic campaign now has more amunition.
All I can do now is thank Fehrnstrom for his answer.
BigATC
the only reason why oil prices went down because we had a "small" problem called the financial meltdown. evrything crashed, remember?
4thepeople, so this 4th person you were with was someone you know well? You assume all people that are not conservatives are the same as this person? Or maybe you assume all women are the same? Maybe it was the color of her hair that you can generalize with?
What a ridiculous post.
BigATC, I do not blame Bush for the huge gas hike that happened under his presidency...if you recall it actually went up to $5.00 in some places...but I do recall the price coming down dramatically when Hillary Clinton spoke of investigations into the speculators on the campaign trail.
The price also came down again when some of those speculators were charged.
There is only one man who has governed the way he campaigned, and that is Ron Paul! look it up.
And he has utterly failed to make any difference, beyond being one shrill voice from the fringe. He is the Dennis Kucinich of the right. Utterly meaningless.
I was being tongue-in-cheek with the gas thing. Presidents have little to do with gas prices.
Bayllie, no i haven't heard of any financial difficulties. What happened?
Wow, there wasn't legislation to specifically close gitmo. But there was a vote to keep it open. It passed in an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 90-6 to keep it open in May of 2009. Are those 6 no votes the ones you are talking about that are blocking it every step of the way?
Meanwhile...back at the ranch, Romney asks the fatal question to his campaign, "What's an Etch a Sketch?" His aides quickly tell him what it is. Romney replies, " My billionaire friend owns that company that makes them!"
Romney after the election -
"Fortunately I keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency"
Foghorn Leghorn (after having his feathers blown off by an errant stick of dynamite)
Way to go Feisty Redhead, even though you don't make any sense you didn't get collapsed.
For all the idiots out there -- and you all know who you are: Romney admitted nothing, his aide admitted nothing. What his aide said was "it CAN be shaken up". He never said that Romney WILL change directions.
Just more proof that y'all choose to see and hear ONLY what y'all want to see and hear.
Republicans in Congress blocked Obama's efforts to close it? Really?!?
Well, as YOU should know, during the first two years of Obama's term, the Democrats had solid control of the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. That means that the Republicans COULDN'T have blocked a SINGLE bill that the Democrats wanted to pass during that period IF the Democrats had been united. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it was the DEMOCRATS that blocked Obama's efforts to shut GITMO by not uniting around his proposals. Obama may have failed to obtain Republican support in Congress, but he didn't NEED it--so you can't honestly blame "Republicans" for blocking anything.
You can therefore either:
1) blame the Democrats, or
2) simply admit that Obama's proposal didn't have enough BI-PARTISAN appeal to attract enough votes to pass.
Take your pick of the two.
If you're going to spout off about the topic, you could at least TRY to appear informed and objective.
If we all concentrated on getting to the actual facts (all of them, no cherry picking) and then holding the correct people accountable for their actions instead of blindly accusing the opposing side out of partisanship, then maybe we'd start seeing improvement as a whole.
I thought the same thing quacked when i read it. Basically ... this must be a really slow day for news. Haha. It is interesting what people read into things.
Jim .... the vote I mentioned above to keep Gitmo open in the Senate was actually brought up by the Dems. Had to be because they would have tabled it as they had about 57 or 58 in the Senate. It was voted 90-6 to keep it OPEN. So when WOW was lecturing about "facts" it appears wow was just making stuff up. LOL
Santorum is (1) relentlessly stupid, and (2) self-righteous and sactimonious to the point of cartoonish evil, but we can all feel good about him because he really means it?
That's trust?
"If anyone is playing the "Etch A Sketch" its Rickety Sanatorium"
It appears that jimmy has forgotten all about the filibuster problem in the Senate at the time. That's an old propaganda trick, there, jimmy-boy. Why don't you try something that will work on people that were alive at the time and remember what Mitch McConnell did. Talk about cherry-picking...
bayllie wrote: the only reason why oil prices went down because we had a "small" problem called the financial meltdown. everything crashed, remember?
If you remember, President Bush and Congress lifted the drilling moratorium on the East Coast, Pacific Coast and the Gulf and that's part of why gas prices dropped so fast.
Obama re-instituted the moratorium and also cancelled over 100 drilling contracts and that's a big part of why oil will remain high.
When Obama campaigned in 2008, he said he would raise energy prices until it hurts in order to save the environment. How's that working out so far?
Too bad you all think it's soooooo funny. What's going to be REALLY funny is when that Communist/Marxist/Dictator, hater of all that is American, gets re-elected a second term. You will all wish that 'Rickety Sanatorium' had been elected because he is a man of principle, not a two faced liar like Prez B.O. Nothing stinks worse than the guy who is in the White House now. I would prefer Romney to Prez B.O. if I had a choice.
Hey this argument looks like fun. To all the Obama supporters saying talk about real and documented flip flops.....you are 100 % right. So here goes:
Obama as campaigner: raising the debt ceiling is irresponsible nearly to the point of treason.
Obama as campaigner: I will have a transparent administration. I will open the visitor logs.
Obama: I will not allow lobbyists in my administration.
Obama: PACs are evil.
Obama: I will get rid of duplication in the government because there is no need for 7 different agencies to govern salmon depending on which part of the river they're in.
Obama: I will go through the Federal budget line by line and eliminate waste.
Obama: during my administration, the rise of the oceans will slow and the planet will begin to heal.
Obama: and everyone will live happily ever after. (This last one is tongue in cheek to represent the literally hundreds of other broken promises.)
@ ZAPPER
I don't believe etch-a-sketch is made in Ohio any longer unless your referring to an Ohio China.
So when I read the term "reset button" I'm thinking more high-tech, and then of all things Etch-A-Sketch, an old children's toy? This is a Dilbert cartoon--seriously, but the reference was kind of telling.
Speaking of high-tech, we now live in a world in which everything you ever said (including accidentally on a hot mic) is recorded and replayed for all eternity. The word"tack" means incremental (per President Obama), not a friggin' 360 flip as Mitt is known for, and any modern politician who thinks they can move from radical far-right craziness all the way back to sanity is a fool.
Any voter who allows said politician to do so is a bigger fool. The whole point of primaries is to vet candidates so we don't end up with an unknown who is completely unqualified for the job, or worse down-right crazy (think Sarah Palin--haunting!).
What you say when you campaign sure as heck IS important. And yes, candidates from both Parties do this, but liberals are far less forgiving. Conservatives will never hold their own to promises made.
Case in point is PolitiFact tracking 500 promises President Obama made versus the handful made by Teapublicans in congress. Go look at the record, and you'll see that the president has done quite well, and Teapublicans not so much.
If you don't want to worry about who the real Mitt is -- Obama/Biden - 2012!
TruePat is absolutely correct. The whole point of the primaries is indeed to allow voters to examine the candidates and their agendas carefully. People's votes are given to a candidate whom they believe deserves their support. When a candidate such as Romney deliberately deceives the electorate by presenting himself as a conservative with the cynical intention of shaking his Etch-A-Sketch when the primaries are over, he has cheated them out of their votes. Romney has exposed himself as a fraud, and there will be just that many more voters who remain home rather than to support someone like Mitt.
President Obama in November! He is our only choice!
I hope Romney doesn't ask Bain Capital to take over Etch-A-Sketch and crush it over this embarrassing episode! It's not the fault of Etch-A-sketch that Romney's own people see him as a cynical political chameleon.
You're not that knowledgeable about Mormonism or you're just playing as a shill. Why the cloak of secrecy? Only Scientology and Mormonism have that level of secrecy. Their own book and the weird ass beliefs below:
Jesus came to the Americas---ya know, he just dropped by during his travels--by map to The Great Salt Lake--right?
3 Nephi 11: 7-12
7 Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.
8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them.
9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:
10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
11 And behold, I am the alight and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.
12 And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words the whole multitude fell to the earth; for they remembered that it had been prophesied among them that Christ should show himself unto them after his ascension into heaven.

This deserves some explanation. Mormons believe that God created multiple worlds and each world has people living on it. They also believe that multiple Gods exist but each has their own universe. We are only subject to our God and if we obtain the highest level of heaven we can become gods ourselves.
D&C 76: 24
24 That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God.
D&C 93: 10
10 The worlds were made by him; men were made by him; all things were made by him, and through him, and of him.
Moses 1: 33
33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.
D&C 76: 108
108 Then shall he be crowned with the crown of his glory, to sit on the throne of his power to reign forever and ever.
D&C 131: 1-5
1 In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees;
2 And in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage];
3 And if he does not, he cannot obtain it.
4 He may enter into the other, but that is the end of his kingdom; he cannot have an increase.
5 (May 17th, 1843.) The more sure word of prophecy means a man’s knowing that he is sealed up unto eternal life, by revelation and the spirit of prophecy, through the power of the Holy Priesthood.
So---here alone--3 tiered heaven, multiple "gods" in multiple worlds, Jesus came to the US. You folks knew that when people left Mormonism, some took their "holy books" with them.
I'll furnish you whatever you ask, from a source that you will accept, and back up anything that I said. It's your peeps beliefs--not mine. I agnostic on a good day and a non-believer on other days.
This is how PAC MONEY is spent
...... having snit fits about political correctness
instead of
correcting politics.
Got to correct you here. That's a LIE. Dems had 59 at one point. But they NEVER had a filibuster-proof majority. Never had 60. Stop lying to people.
Roodles
Stop repeating the Eric Bolling/Fox News' Oil Price Fable.
Energy experts rejected Bolling's claim that price drop was caused by Bush's moratorium announcement.
Panic drove oil to that peak in 2008, but it was primarily the recession that drove it back down so far.
Get with the facts, Roodles, and definitely get off the Faux Crack. The Fox News "experts" are still looking for that birth certificate...
So Teapublicans campaigned on jobs, jobs, jobs in the 2010 midterm, and did a bait and switch so fast we had whiplash as they started immediately on their rampage against workers, women's rights, and anything except jobs. Where is the outrage from their supporters?
No, we have to listen to their sniveling about Gitmo -- Really?!
Right-wingers, Romney can't "tack" or should we say "make that large leap" back to the center. He can't because Norquist, Limbaugh, and the Koch brothers control the Party now, and their Teabagger minions will "primary" any candidate who tries to be moderate.
Ask youself what kind a person would subject themselves to faking it, not just now, but for at least four years, just to be president?
Well, on the one hand, we have Romney with the child's toy answer to the economy, an Etch A Sketch. But, the other choice on the Republican side we have 3 people whose entire economic policy is a myth. The myth of the tablet, written in stone (or, truthfully, fake stone), brought down from the shining city on a hill by saint ronnie, which says only: give to those that have already, and screw the rest.
You know, the Etch A Sketch isn't that bad after all, when compared to what those guys have to offer. At least it's easily erased, unlike the damage of saint ronnie.
An Etch-a-Sketch or the Old Testament? You decide.
Well the Romney staffer is just telling it like it is...
Time to face facts!
"GOP/T-Retards jobs program draws flies"
JHeron...
Really?? LOL
Just read a few of your fellow libbies posts...no name calling, eh?
You liberals look funny trying to defend the community organizer-n-chief we have been burdened with for the past 3 1/2 years...
See ya at the voting booth!
ABO 2012!
SoCalKenna--you are right. I didn't know it had been usurped by the Chinese. How sad. It used to be here in Ohio, but is now in Shenzchen. Well, dammit.
Romney is a walking etch-a-sketch. We all know it. His supporters know it. His staff knows it. Just never figured one of them would say it out loud.
"His staff knows it. Just never figured one of them would say it out loud."
If I were Mitt Romney, I would almost be more concerned about one of his staff admitting "that you'll see that Mitt Romney is broadly acceptable to most of the factions in the party."
"Broadly acceptable"???
I think on the official GOTV Excitement Potential scale, that puts you somewhere in the neighborhood of, say, a Michael Dukakis. And we all know what happened to him.
When his own staffers are yawning from all this "Mitt Mania", Romney's going to need a lot more than an Etch-A-Sketch.
What's the definition of a "gaffe" again? Accidently telling the truth.
The Etch-A-Sketch candidate - that's gonna stick.
Etch-A-Sketch is very fitting for Mitt because every time he gets shook up on an issue he tries to erase all his past actions and statements and claim he is something new and different.
If he wants an alternate reference to a 1960's toy and the quality of his character he could also go with "Silly Putty", or "Twister", but "Super Balls" just won't work.
Forrest,
I'm thinking more along the lines of the 'Slinky'...
Playing twister with Mitt: right foot conservative, left hand liberal, left foot moderate........
.
Ha you mean he just got fired!
I am amazed at how every time Romney opens his mouth (or someone who works for him) with out a telepromp he screws up and says something stupid, what is this the 5th or 6th time this happened you would think they would learn
ill admit some times i say things and they don't come out right or is misinterpreted but this is just ridicules
......a bit like an "EASY BAKE OVEN"....with a burnt out bulb.
I really Really REALLY dont want a President that looks like a wild eyed mad man and keeps reinventing himself at every turn
Mitt is a serial Liar who looks way too much like Ted Bundy
Now I know how Romney thinks he is part of the 99%, he broke out his vintage Life gameboard and has been boning up on some of the perils of the 99%.
sorta reminds me of Joe Biden.
Okay Fiesty, here's one for ya!!
ARE THEY SURE that wasn't Gnewt posing as a Romney advisor!!!?
My GAWD Tex!
You just can't make this stuff up! ☺
Time for a margarita - you in?
Well hell yes!! Frozen no salt.
A couple three of those WILL shake up your Etch A Sketch!!
"Rickety - next campaign stop will be Louisiana sanatorium"
Of course he will flip flop again in the general election campaign. That's Mitt, that's how he rolls. While more people will be paying attention much to Mitt's shagrin he will find much of what happened in the primary/caucus time will haunt him. As videos are played and replayed the earlier uninterested will be brought up to date and Mitt will be exposed giving Obama an easy victory. Sure Mitt may be able to win in his own party but Democrats and Independants will have a say too and that could be a bit sticky for ol' flip flop lying Mitt. Maybe he'll know what Seamus felt like on top of the car for several hours.
I know it's unrelated... but I can't help but be amazed at the attitudes of the liberals...
That silly little girl yesterday told Mitt...
HAHAHA! Free Birth Control is called ABSTINENCE!
Beyond that you need to pay for your drugs you freeloading deadbeat gimme gimme gimme puck!
That goofy little girl personified EVERYTHING WRONG with the liberals and their nurturing of the welfare state attitude in this country.
Not to mention the fact that her parents must be SOOOO proud. Their daughter was featured on national television as freeloader and... shall we say... promiscuous! Almost brings a tear to your eye doesn't it!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
Oops.... typo....
should have read...
Beyond that you need to pay for your drugs you freeloading deadbeat gimme gimme gimme punk!
LOL! My bad! (but everything else in that post looked good :-)
So that's why there's all that "free" Viagra out there right? So people can be abstinent?
Yup, I'm sure it was prescribed just so the patient could enjoy RedTube or Google Images.
Interesting how someone whose screenname is "SickOfTheBickering" is, essentially, bickering. ;P
Abstinence is one form of birth control, but it doesn't always work. The human sex drive is very powerful. Our instinctive urge to have sex can completely override a person's judgement. Recent studies of the brain actually show a measurable effect.
In other words, at some point, the sex drive countermands your better judgement and you wind up having sex. Some people are better at controlling this than others, but it's utterly naive and just plain laughable that right-wingers think it's just a question of will-power. On the contrary, studies have shown that sexual repression can actually cause serious psychological and even physical damage over time. Why do you think so many Catholic priests wind up diddling little altar boys? Priests in other denominations who are allowed to masturbate or have sex with their wives don't seem to suffer this problem....
So no, abstinence-only has been shown time and time again to be completely unrealistic. It just doesn't work. People like yourself are living in denial.
Oh and by the way, if I was this girl's parent, I WOULD be proud of her! She's standing up for women's rights. She's endured sleazy attacks from right-wingers across the country (including yourself) and yet somehow has remained stoic and determined. She even received a call from the President of the United States! So yes, I would be EXTREMELY proud of her!
If you knew anything about real birth control, you'd know that the pill is not an "on demand" medication. In other words, you don't just take it when you're having sex. You take it every day, year 'round. This way, if you do wind up having sex (i.e. you recognize that, as a human, you might fail at maintaining perfect abstinence), you have that added safety net. It's also worth noting that these same medications are used to treat other conditions not related to having sex. This girl, in fact, was complaining that she had such a non-sexual medical need but was denied.
Can I assume, then, that you don't receive ANY medical or other benefits from your employer? If you do, then you're a freeloader. At least, you are by your own definition.
She's working hard at school so that she can get a good job and contribute more to society than she could staying at home having babies and doing the laundry. That's not freeloading. While she's getting that education, she needs to receive basic health care so that she can continue said education unimpeded. That's not freeloading, either. In fact, that's why colleges provide health benefits to their students. She's paying probably through the nose for tuition and probably working her butt off to make a good life for herself. If you see that as "freeloading," then you have my pity because nobody should have to go through life in such a delusional state.
Dear sick of bickering,
If you assume that being on birth control as promiscuous--that is where your nasty mind is. I assume it is being responsible and not being a victim of a woman's biology. It is called planning to not- have an unwanted child and/or not have an abortion, as well as real medical reasons for hormone therapy like avoiding a hysterectomy.
thanks for your comments, Rush
As usual, the liberals twist everything around to fit their needs.
I said the only FREE birth control is ABSTINENCE. The rest you have to pay for! (dumb asses) I don't give a damn if those girls want birth control... I do give a damn when they want me to pay for it!
According to the liberals, birth control, just like everything should be FREE! Sorry... but NOTHING IS FREE! Grow up people.
And WTH does Viagra have to do with this... I never advocated free Viagra... or any other medications. You losers are hopeless!
Finally, unless a woman needs birth control pills (as prescribed by her physician) to regulate her cycle... it is not medically necessary. That means she is using it because she is... again here it comes... dare I say it... promiscuous.
LOL! it is so easy to get you all fired up!
(show me the clown nose, fisty!)
The fact that those so-called religious organizations whose health insurance will pay for Viagra (i.e. pay for men to have sex) but won't pay for birth control (i.e. won't "pay for women to have sex").
And this irony has nothing to do with it?
Hey Sick of..You should embrace free birth control. It means less children born to people who can't afford them, so therefore less people looking for handouts. You conservatives don't make any sense, at all. Less Government, yet more Government control of women's bodies. Less Government, yet Santorum wants to go after the Porn industry. Less Government, but abolish abortion. Less Government, but crackdown on Medical Marijuana. Less Government, but let's control who can vote...and on and on.
Unless that loudmouth little girl talking to Romney was taking free Viagra... NO! It has nothing to do with it.
Oh... and let me address Kris Craig's comment about getting part of your healthcare cost covered by your employer and how he says that is freeloading...
Kris... you are an idiot. When an employee is hired by a company that offers benefits, those benefits are part of the 'employment contract' that the two parties (company and employee) enter into. It is negotiate up front and therefore NOT FREE to the employee. It is part of his COMPENSATION. Ever hear that word? COMPENSATION!
What a dumbass.
SickOfTheBickering
Would you rather have more unplanned children (some portion of which will be dependent on the government) or easy access to birth control? Which do you think is more affordable? Which option do you think would have the most positive societal benefit?
Also, would you prefer birth control to be used or an abortion to be performed instead?
Such vile sentiments! Not just the words, but the dripping, condescending arrogance of the tone... yet so full of ignorant nonsense. It is mind boggling.
It absolutely disgusts me that people like this feel the need to submit the rest of us to their dirty, little minds. Birth control = promiscuity? That's really what you want to go with?? Birth control = medical treatment and/or responsibility. Promiscuity is an entirely different issue. You have to love these dirty minded pigs who equate the thought of a female voluntarily having sex with her being promiscuous. Says a lot about where their minds are -- far more so than saying anything about women on birth control. God forbid a woman have sex and God save us if she likes it! What is this, 1812??
You know what, folks, it's not only 18 year old bimbos out for a good time and wanting fewer consequences that are on the pill. It's married women, abstinent women, women in committed monogamous relationships, too. It's women who need it to help control various maladies -- irregular periods, severe cramps, acne, etc. Just because a woman is married or in a committed monogamous relationship means that she is ready at any moment to commit to bringing a new life into this world. What are these women supposed to do? Suffer unnecessarily from treatable conditions? Tell their husbands they won't have sex if they don't want a child? Then you'll get the guys crying about they "had to" step out of their marriage because their shrew of a wife withheld sex. But some people are willing to make it harder/financial untenable for these women to access the pill just so that they can teach a lesson to any of those other girls who might want it for reasons that they do not personally endorse. So now we're about the morality police in this country?
And while we're talking about all these supposedly promiscuous women, let's talk about the men. We're always hearing from these pigs about how awful the women are who want to have sex and not have a baby as punishment for it -- but what about all these men all these women are having sex with? Why don't we ever hear about them? It takes two to tango, folks. I'll tell you why we never hear about them -- they are "guys," they are supposed to want and like sex. They are expected to pursue it. But the women who they get it with are vilified for it. Time to break out the scarlet letters. Can we say "double standard?"
And one last thing to all you hypocrites crying about women wanting something for nothing by asking that birth control be covered by insurance... Do you have any friggin' notion how insurance works? Socialized medicine failed. What is being proposed is everyone paying for their own insurance, just setting up a system in which payment is commensurate with income, making it more affordable. Guess what that means, folks?? No one is getting anything for nothing! Insurance is a service all beneficiaries pay into. Even when obtained through work, insurance is something people work for and it is most definitely not free -- it is part of one's total compensation. And many employer insurance programs require a portion to be paid by the employee, so they are quite literally paying for the service. It is not free. And even if we did some day go to socialized medicine, medical care would be paid for by the taxes we all pay into (through some combination of income/sales tax, etc), so even then, it would still be a service people paid for. No one is asking for something for nothing. What we are asking is that a particular medicine not be excluded from coverage simple and exclusively because one segment of the population has declared themselves the morality police and deemed that this medicine could lead to behaviors they do not personally approve of.
How are you paying for it? It's not as if birth control for this college student comes out of your tax dollars. The government isn't funding it. As many have pointed out, it's much cheaper for insurance to pay for birth control than pregnancies. Insurance absorbs the cost of the birth control, not you. For people working health care is a fringe benefit of their job if their employer offers it. Again, you are not paying for anyone's birth control.
You need to turn off Fox News. You are very poorly informed.
Hey, Sick -- If a wife uses birth control with her husband to prevent pregnancy until they are ready for a family, is she then, promiscuous?
According to religious zealots (and the Catholic Church) even married couples cannot use birth control. So apparently if even married couples don't want kids, they can't have sex.
Oh, but Viagra is all good with the Catholic Church.
HAHA Ruken that's a riot. Many health care companies do pay for birth control and they have for 20 years. The donors insurance will pay for most of the unwed mothers childs expenses. Like the delivery, well baby, ultrasound, and many other procedures. It does not pay for a person that is not covered because they are not married. So the woman would pay for the room she stays in and some other costs. The unborn child, which according to liberals really isn't anything before birth, is covered if you know who the dad is and they have insurance.
As for couples having relations you missed the mark again. The bible thumpers commandment, to be fruitful (not fruity) and multiply, doesn't say you can't have sex. If your wife is pregnant and you haven't determined that she is with child, are you to stop what you have been commanded to do? Besides relations during certain times can have a lower likely hood pregnancy as would the exit stage left method prior to conception are you to stop trying. I never used birth control before my wife got pregnant and she didn't get pregnant until we were ready. And it only took one try.
Again this would have to do with self control and healthy organs. Viagra could be used to enhance the chance to procreate for married couples. And since I didn't hear the words condemning either act by the Pope, Buddha, The Prophet of the LDS church, or any other church figurehead make the statements you did in print or otherwise I would question your knowledge on the matter. Just curious did you happen to go to a sermon entitled supporting viagra and condemning viagra in modern times or is this barstool wisdom you share.
I’m confused, if the married couple can’t have sex unless it’s to have children then they can’t properly consummate their marriage according to these same folks right?
So, really they just want to put women back in the kitchen barefoot, pregnant and owned by a man, AKA “husband”.
Santorum, Gingrich, and the conservatives should have a field day with this. This is going to infuriate Tea Party types that despise RINOs. Mitt's whole schtick has been "I'm not a RINO... I changed! Now I'm an 'extreme conservative'! Honest! You can trust me!" ... but now his own campaign has basically come out and said "Well now, you can't expect to believe what he's saying now! ... he has to say whatever it takes to get the nomination, and once he's got that, he can say other stuff!" ... Limbaugh, Levin, Hannity, Palin, Ingraham, ... that whole crowd should be jumping all over this! They hate Mitt because they don't trust that he's really a "true conservative." Well now they've come out and admitted it. Rush should be hammering this 3 hrs a day, 5 days a week, from now until June.
Ditto-head Teabaggers are fading away.....Dying a slow painful death!
They were really never needed anyway
Good riddance, RIP and NO ressurection for ya!
Meanwhile, the GOP has LOST the Womens vote (just since last week) . And today another poll says they are losing Independents..the reason for the 10 pt swing to Obama for Independents? Increase in the number whop say the economy is improving.
So keep it up, GOP posters, every misogynist post is another vote for Obama. And we can't thank you enough (chuckle)
I know, and its very funny to watch it. Look at the tone and arguments they were making on here 6 months ago, and look at them now....they have nothing.
When is the last time you heard any of the right wingers here supporting an economic plan for Jobs, Energy.
They don't have solutions, their candidates suck and they overreached with women, hispanics and independents. They have nothing to support. They are almost finished.
Got plan? Got Candidate?
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney is ten times the flip-flopper that John Kerry was! I think he just guaranteed a contested GOP Convention!
I'll bet Jeb Bush is really glad he endorsed such a man of principle and such a well-run campaign (where staffers are paid more than at the Obama campaign).
I like the Etch-a-Sketch image (although I was never very good at it) because it gives Mitt a fresh start each time. He may not only flip flip on positions--he may come up with some brand new positions with each reset!
About the Romney campaign, the Magic Eight Ball Says:
Steeler Fan~ Off topic; I like your name AND your profile pic.
On topic; flip flopping is definatly one thing that turns me off to a candidate. Maybe your opinion isn't the most popular, but stand by it. I am pro-choice, pro-birth control, pro-animal rights, pro-death penalty for pedophiles and rapists and I understand my beliefs aren't always the most popular, but I'm not going to change my opinion to make others happy. You have to get elected by standing on your principals.
Veggie---on behalf of my cat, thanks for the compliment on my picture! A sad day in Steeler Nation yesterday as our beloved receiver (and Dancing with the Stars champion) Hines Ward retired.
I think you are right about standing by one's opinions--it can be very difficult to do. I think the problem with Romney is that he wants to be President so badly (not sure why but he does) that he will say anything to anyone to further his cause.
On behalf of Romney's dog, vote for a REAL American, not someone like Mitt.
Mitt Romney: Vote for me because I don't mean what I say. I stand for nothing. Give me all your money.
Romney supporters: Okay.
At least we all know where Obama stands, 100% socialist.
"On the very day that Mitt Romney picked up a key endorsement from former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R)..."
I'm given to wonder why the value of Jeb's support is greater than that of a bucket of warm spit.
Now, if the Great Decider would leave Dick Cheney's undisclosed secret lair, come into the sunshine, see his shadow and, like his brother, throw his featherweight support behind Romney, that would be newsworthy.
That would truly be the kiss of death.
That endorsement is interesting. Old Jeb doesn't want more drilling off the beaches of Florida. And he has a more moderate view of Immigration. Interesting indeed.
We all know Mittsy is an Etch-A-Sketch....and it's high time someone spanks that ugly, slobbering, fat little rich kid that keeps turning the damn knobs every day!!!!
If he does win the nomination, he WILL get a severe spanking in the general elections by President Obama and sent back to Massachusetts blating.
Now, now, Starbuck. We all know perfectly well that Mittsy will have one of "his" servants take the spankings for him...
I hope Santorum wins the Republican Primaries! Obama will certainly wipe the floor with him. If Mitt wins, Obama's incompetence will be exposed and my almost 2 years of unemployment benefits will evaporate and the economy will get healthy again and I wouldn't have an excuse to apply for unemployment. That will "shock and disgust" me to no end.
I'm sure Mittsy would be happy to hire you to take the spankings for him, anony. Thanks for the new slogan, though..."Here comes Mitt! Bend over!!"
We already know the teabaggers are deadbeats...you didn't have to humiliate yourself to state the obvious.
Be careful with those gay fantasies there ShockedandDeluded! That is another thing that Sanitarium is after but Obama will fight for you because it will take the spotlight off of his economic failure - you know he tried to spend a trillion dollar to make that disappear.
I am confused why JoAnnaSmith1 comment was collapsed, except the obvious reason that she pointed out Obama's faults. This was an analogy that would fit any candidate that wins the nomination. You say what it takes to motivate the base in the primaries and then move to the center during the general election. Most Americans are in the middle of the political spectrum. If you win a general election, you move to the center. In case you are still confused, Glencoe makes an excellent textbook that explains this in more detail.
Randy-393589:
The media wants people to believe that elections are about Extreme Right versus Extreme Left and that is a reflection of the decay in our society. Because it is either Extreme Right i.e. Bush, or Extreme Left i.e. Obama, we are left with a divided society and a whole host of economic and social issues.
I see people commenting on how Mitt Romney is too wealthy to understand the average Joe. It leads to a dilution of achievement and there is left no incentives to work hard and be successful because it will breath envy. I would somewhat understand the Romney criticisms if he was handed money and didn't have to work for anything. The fact of the matter is, he and Ann started from the same point that a majority of married couples start from and built-up from there. Romney had talent and he worked hard and he is successful. I want someone like that to lead this country. I liked Clinton for this very fact of starting out with nothing and achieving success in life. That is something to aspire to not tear down.
That is called Flip-Flopping and Mitt is good at it.
Translation: In the general election we will have a different audience so we will change the show to fit them.
This is EXACTLY what is wrong with our government and that includes the liar in cheif.
Every 4 years we hear politicians say what we want to hear and promptly forget when elected. Now with George Bush and Obama, it has hurt us because the middle-class has virtually disappeared. With Clinton we lucked out. With Romney, our odds look better.
Accept it folks: All politicians change their message because it is the only way for them to have a broad appeal and increase their chances of winning. Imagine you are running in any type of election, would you ever change a position you held at the start? Would you learn from a mistake in a previous election and compensate? Wouldn't you want a record of getting it right more than wrong? Humans will make mistakes and we have to accept that fact in our political candidates. So stop being a tool of the news media and make a candidate decision based on the record of the candidate.
Man the Romney apologists are getting weak these days
Lune Ditsy: Would you like a heartfelt apology? How about we take some of Mitt's wealth and give it to you? Would that make you feel better?
The country is screwed no matter who wins the presidency. Where's HST when you need him?
I am here I just another name now.
Devie was way ahead of everyone with Mitt's deserved title of "Weather Vane." (I hope he doesn't trademark it because it is the most apt description of Romney.) But now it appears the Romney campaign is proud of Mitt's chameleon like abilities. Romney has to be the most cynical politician that ever lived. Poppy Bush could make fun of a "Harvard Yard" mentality (despite his own Yale pedigree), denigrate the ACLU, and eat fried pork skins (which I'm sure was what Daddy Prescott Bush served up at Kennebunkport), but I think Romney is way beyond even the Bushes' gamesmanship. Romney doesn't just wear jeans - he changes himself when he puts on those jeans. His mind switches gears from Planned Parenthood, the noble organization to which he once gave money, to "Let's shut down Planned Parenthood." Yeah, that's the ticket. He can morph from advising Obama to adopt portions of the Massachussetts health care law to stating that he is aghast that anyone would try a national system of healthcare (even though he knows that many Republicans wanted something just like Obama enacted - until Obama enacted it.) Romney is truly the candidate of change - just as McCain stated sarcastically in a debate. He changes himself whenever circumstances indicate his poll numbers would improve with a new position. He is the mirror candidate. He is the parrot candidate. He is a joke, a "delicious boob" to be manipulated by the Montgomery Burns types that run his SuperPAC. And his flexibility will be such an asset for the oil industry, the banking industry, and the military industrial complex. They will pimp slap him if he gets the least little bit out of line.
Dear Beyond Democrat,
I don't think it will be easy to defeat Romney, he will be a moving target and I am afraid the Super Pac money will be able to sell that he is all things to all people which is one of the few true things about Mitt.
Every 4 years we hear politicians say what we want to hear and promptly forget when elected. Now with George Bush and Obama, it has hurt us because the middle-class has virtually disappeared. With Clinton we lucked out. With Romney, our odds look better.

Someone said the other day that Mitt flip-flops more than Jimmy Buffett at a Key West Walk-a-thon. Wish I could take credit for that jewel! Soooo true!
And this POS is the GOP frontrunner? What a joke!
I was relieved when I read Mutt Rommel had his finger on an Etch and Sketch. I was afraid they were talking the launch codes ! St. Torum only has his fingers on an Opus Dei ring and a rosary. Nut Gangrape probably has his fingers on future wife number 4 ! Ron Paul Jones has his finger on a defibulator. Obama hopefully has his fingers on his birth certificate, and the number for the Secret Service. He's going to need both before this election is over !
Every 4 years we hear politicians say what we want to hear and promptly forget when elected. Now with George Bush and Obama, it has hurt us because the middle-class has virtually disappeared. With Clinton we lucked out. With Romney, our odds look better.

It sounds like someone is getting fired from the Romney campaign.
Though like many other posters here I couldn't think of a better way to describe Romney.
Well he does like to fire people.
Etch a Sketch..much better than mittflip
Mitt-leading.
Mitt-faced.
Mittsunderstood
Mittsapointment
OMG, I DEFINITELY will be using these! Thanks!
Well, Mitt did say he "likes firing people". I'm just glad it's "his" campaign people, and NOT the "American" people.
That's exactly how Mitt "The Jobs Cremator" Romney made his millions -- Buying American businesses that have BIG Employee Pension Funds, laying off those American employees, keeping the money from the American employees' pension funds, and then shipping those jobs AND the business, overseas.
Obama / Biden 2012
Mittwit.
"PEOPLE OF WISCONSIN, WAKE UP" If you were smart you would kick Santorum out of your state because hes in bed with Scott Walker the guy that's destroying your State. Rickety walks with the Teahaters and the Kocheads. "WAKE UP WISCONSIN"
As opposed to Obama
^ Yes as opposed to Obama -
-> who said he'd save the auto industry and did.
-> who said he'd pass equal work for equal pay laws for women and did
-> who said he'd pass middle class (payroll) tax cuts and did
-> who said he'd kill Bin Laden and did.
-> who said he'd end don't ask don't tell and did.
-> who said he'd pass health care reform and did
-> who said he'd end the recession and restore economic growth and did.
-> who said he'd end the war in Iraq and did.
-> who said he'd reduce the countries dependence on oil, and did.

Contrast with Romney - a laughing stock in his own party, who now repudiates his
sole life accomplishment of universal health care.
What a sick pathetic joke Willard is.
I can't wait for November to teach GOP lackeys a lesson if they even dare to front off with this FAKER against the President who took out Bin Laden!
AMAZING RESPONSE! THANK YOU!!!
YES, Diddo .... Nice one!
Athough I agree that Ronmey is a joke, I think it is misleading to cherry pick Obama's list of accomplishments. Please don't forget about what he has been doing while you where distaracted with healtcare:
Extend patriot act and sign NDAA - effectively eliminating the fourth, fifth and sixth, seventh and eigth amendments!!!!
Signed HR347 - disallowing protest in his presence and effectively eliminating the first amendment.
Signed health care law - a serious infringment on the tenth amendment.
Look it up. I know they say "don't worry, you can trust us" and "We won't use it on you", but i am not so confident.
That's a joke, right? You listed nine things out of a ton he promised and most of them the majority of us never wanted in the first place...hardly anything to hang your hat on. An he killed Bin Laden? What a slap in the face to Seal Team 6....the real heroes.
Aaron, do you think Seal Team 6 authorized the kill order on bin Laden? You clearly have never served in the military. Only the Commander in Chief can order an assassination today. It was a risky decision, but this young President was willing to take that risk with the finest special operations task force on the planet who were flown in by US Army pilots. And in the event you missed it, the President gave all the credit to Seal Team Six. That is what our President is about.
Kind of obvious who is the joke here! How shocking that the Right gives Obama credit for nothing. You have had your blinders on for years now regarding the man. Enough with the bleating!
scommaG
What planet are you from?
Well now we know what happen to their ideas and plans for America! They keep shaking the Etch a Sketch.
Awake - It is not misleading to list accomplishments, especially as they took great courage and skill to manage under some of the most adverse conditions ever experienced by a newly elected administration. We've come a long way from 2008. There are indeed things left to do, perhaps things to be done better, but this is a very hard working administration and they deserve some credit. The "consitutional issues" you raise have no context. Only the Supreme Court can interpret the Constitution and that hasn't happened. So far those issues are perceptions and political posturing. No amendments have been eliminated or infringed on, not until the Supreme Court rules that to be the case and it is highly unlikely that will happen. In terms of the 10th Amendment, awfully hard to enact any form of Universal Health Care, which the GOP and Romney claims to support/has supported, if it infringes on the 10th Amendment. That's a specious case at best.
Excellent, scommag. You need to work for Obama's campaign--why isn't he touting more of his accomplishments? Don't you think if Howdy Doody (W.) killed bin Laden he'd be addressing us all from the deck of an aircraft carrier weekly? Obama needs to be taking more campaign pointer pages from Rove's playbook. As for Romney, he may get the nomination, but not the presidency. Roughly 20% of Republicans describe themselves as evangelicals, and they will not vote for him because he doesn't believe in the same spaghetti monster they do. As for Santorum, his racist, ignorant rhetoric gives him an edge among teabaggers in the south, but he's not a real contender and never was. Sorry, Repubs--looks like you lose again for the next 4 years (or longer? Can we hope?)
The recession ended? Someone needs to tell the economy and all the unemployed people!
Sorry to tell you, zupercram, but a recession is defined as two or more consecutive quarters of negative growth. We've been in positive growth territory for about 2 years now.
Although the economic definition is small comfort to people without jobs.
Sure, the direction we are heading in is mildly better, but it's not the amount of growth we need. I'd be interested to see what the growth would be without any of the failed policies and bailouts. I bet it would be the same or maybe even better. The point is, it's not a big thing to take credit for pretty pathetic growth.
Give it up already Santorum and just go away. The majority of the country does not like your extreme views. I am surprised you don't think the world is still flat. Your camp keeps telling Gingrich to drop out, well you need to drop out as well and let Romney make a fool of himself. After all who will vote for a Republican who is in the 1% wealthy bracket, has a wife who would not have a clue about what the average woman goes through, put his poor dog on the top of a car for a 12 hour trip (that tells you how much he will care about protecing wildlife and the environment) and belongs to a political party that in itself caused the mess this country is in. On top of that Romney looks like he can't be trusted and will do only what he thinks is necessary at the time to get votes. We need stability for the next 4 years and President Obama is it. Let him finish getting us out of the mess which is taking time but will happen and already is starting to happen. You put a Republican in and they willl take away everything from everyone except the rich.
Let Obama finish us off as a nation? I think not SB.
I like Etch A Sketch. It teaches self control and patience. Neither Santorum or Romney have much self control or patience. It would be good for the both of them to have these skills.
So Romney is right some of the time (whether you like his flips or his flops), vs Santorum who is wrong all the time. Seems the choice for repubs is whether you want the country to be the 'United States of Bought Politicians' or the 'United States of Christ'. The United States of America? that won't exist unless you vote Democratic.
I can see their new slogan..."Vote for Mitt. He lies a little less..."
I commend Rick Santorum for his steadfast refusal to deviate from being a complete asshat.
he's got conviction
Romney is an "Etcha-Sketch" candidate born with a silver boot in his mouth lieing hypocrite; Santorum is a sanctimonious holier-than-thou religious fascist; Gingrinch is a proven loser and Paul has a problem with reality. Just a right wing bunch of loser clowns.
WOW stubbleq .... That about sums it up !!!
What is Paul's problem with reality? Oh maybe it is because real freedom isn't popular.
Yeah...the reality is your in a huge heap of trouble. that is reality! so yes Ron Paul is right...his idea/dream for reality is a lot different than what it is now. out of all the comments you said...i'd take the guy that has a problem with reality. At least Ron doesn't cheat on his wife...flip flop...or force religious values on ya. its all basic human intelligence...think for yourself. quit letting the media tell ya who and who isn't a clown.
If you don't stand for ideals, you stand for nothing at all. At least Ron Paul has the guts to stand for civil liberties, and he does have a plan, so there's no reason to vote for anyone else, at least not in the GOP.
AwakeForTheFirstTime
Ron Paul's problem with reality is that, while his views do make complete moral sense (at least to me), I think there are too many practical problems, least of which is, as president, he'd get absolutely nothing accomplished of what his platform is.
This is getting to be fun. It's like watching a ping pong match. Etch-A-Sketch -- swat -- Christian only nation -- swat -- womens' political stance -- swat -- English only for Puerto Rico -- swat -- "I don't care about unemployment" -- swat -- women's healthcare -- dribble dribble dribble. I'm am being thoroughly entertained. So far, they've got none of it right, and they're still in the game. I'm not sure of all the rules they are playing with (if any), but the entertainment and comedy value is exceptional.
Zapper hit the nail on the head! This is entertainment! Now I get it! Now let me go stick my head in the sandbox again!!!!!
That's how you win elections, Rick.
Or, do you want to be like the Democrats during the Bush era, and be morally pure and lose every time?
Santorum appeals to far-right conservatives. Great. But you can't win an election with just far-right conservatives.
Ask John McCain. He tried to woo them and turned everyone else OFF and LOST.
It is how you win, no one denies that. Generally politicians (or their surrogates) aren't quite so bald-faced as to declare that everything they said to win the primary was just a lie.
Santorum should just go away, the people of his nhome state rejected him, why would he even think he has a chance at being nominated let alone elected. Santorum is a sanctimonious POS.
Santorbum needs to understand this...THE MAINSTREAM REPUBLICANS...THE ONES WHO CAN GET A REPUBLICAN ELECTED....CAN NOT STAND SANTORBUM'S EXTREME RIGHT WING RACIST, BIGOT, WOMAN-HATING VIEWS. If he is the party nominee, we will run away from the party. Santorbum has his head up his azz if he thinks he is electable. Rick needs to quit kissing the pope's azz. Santorbum loves pedophile priests because the church says they're OK.
In other words; only a professional whore can become a Republican nominee.
Hey now JEM. We don't want to tick off those professional whores working in Vegas now, do we? At least they know what the job entails and stick to their "guns".
Make a decision based on the record of the candidate, anony?? Well...that throws all 4 of your guys out of the race, now doesn't it.
Don't blame the media for the fact that your guys are completely deceitful and incompetant. Blame the Republican party - they are the ones that gave you these fools.
Just admit that you don't want to give up 2 years of unemployment benefits and the principal write-down on your mortgage. Don't act as if you are making an informed decision.
All of Santorum's ideas are etched in stone. Thousands of years ago. On Mount Sinai.
