Exit poll: Illinois isn't Alabama or Mississippi

About two hours before polling places close, the first waves of exit poll data show that Illinois is vastly different -- when it comes to religion, ideology, and income status -- than what we saw last week in Alabama and Mississippi.

And that's potentially very good news for Mitt Romney, who has been favored to win this contest.

According to the exit poll so far, just four in 10 GOP primary voters in Illinois describe themselves as evangelical Christians -- versus eight in 10 who said that in Alabama and Mississippi. That's a huge shift.

In addition in Illinois, 31% say they are "very conservative" -- compared with 42% who said that in Mississippi and 36% in Alabama.

What's more, 37% of Republican primary voters in Illinois say their total family income exceeds $100,000. But just 23% in Alabama and 26% in Mississippi said that.

Illinois isn't Alabama or Mississippi

No kidding! lol

We have our share of family values freaks downstate who bitch about Chicago even though it's the city supports the entire state!

Our suburbs which at one time were solid red have turned a lovely shade of purple - change doesn't come easy or fast...

Y'all don't get married off to your cousins in IL? I guess that would be another difference, huh?

Romney's main supporters throughout the primaries have been income earners between $100,000 and $199,000.

Not hard to figure out. Romney is a dyed-in-the-wool-1%-er.

That said, ALL the GOP candidates are Norquistians. And they are all for income inequality (See Ryan Budget additional tax break of $150,000 for the wealthy):

They are All for Big Corporations running our lives.

That's a hoot there Feisty.

So what exactly do you mean by Chicago supports the whole state?

Support it how? Cause see old gal, your state is SKEEEEEROOO'd. But hey you gotta hand it to old Gov. Quinn. He's blue through and through, and faced with a huge fiscal hole he did the only thing he knew how - raised taxes.

A lot.

Problem is that fiscal hole is worse now. So, you are Quinn, you just mounted the pooch and jacked taxes to historic levels. What no, brown cow?

Kinda like our man Obama. Biggest debt ever, eclipsing Bush, who knew how to toss out the fat stacks of cash, in just three years.

Cool right?

Oh and Backhouse dear - Obama is a hard core 1%-ers as well. Only difference is he wants Big Gov. to run your life.

Obama is Bush with a different color wife - just ask Robert Deniro. What a racist.

Mitt Romney lost in Mississippi because he would not let anybody punch him in the face and make him toothless. He would have won the nomination!

Vote Democrat 2012

Why is somebody who supports family values a freak? And Chicago no longer supports the whole state and hasn't for some time....businesses are moving out of the Chicago area at a higher rate than other parts of the state. The I-88 corridor contributes significantly to major business concerns in Illinois. And the population in Chicago is at its lowest levels since before the Great Depression in the 1920's, so numerically, they do not represent a majority of state population either. Any state who depends solely upon one business or one given city is destined for disaster. It is the State of Illinois, not the State of Chicago, and quite frankly, the rest of Illinois is tired of being held hostage by the City of Chicago.

I'll be curious to see how the late vote swings...does the working class go for Santorum as they did elsewhere?

I still can't imagine why ANY working class person would vote for any of these out of touch IDIOTS.

Now that the real race is beginning, it will be interesting to see how the repub that wins takes his foot out of his mouth. The sound bites are great. Romney "I'm not concerned about the poor", and Santorum "I don't care about jobs", make for some great debate material.
