Republican voters in Illinois are casting their ballots Tuesday in the state's presidential primary. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
EAST PEORIA, IL -- Rick Santorum began the Monday before the Illinois primary addressing Mitt Romney's claims that he is "an economic lightweight." By the day's end, it was the former Pennsylvania senator's own words that had him on the defensive.
Making four stops in the Land of Lincoln, Santorum suggested at a rally in Moline that the nation's unemployment rate "doesn't matter to me." The point, he later explained, was that his campaign is based on more fundamental issues than the current jobless numbers and that Republicans do not believe it is the government's role to create employment, only to create an atmosphere for job growth.
But it took little time for his chief rival for the GOP nomination to pounce on the comments. Stumping in Peoria less than two hours later, Romney used Santorum's line to further his case that he the only candidate capable of handling the economy.
"One of the people who is running also for the Republican nomination today said that he doesn’t care about the unemployment rate, that does bother me. I do care about the unemployment rate," said Romney.
Santorum's remarks came on the heels of a different eyebrow-raising incident in a Louisiana prayer service on Sunday night. As Santorum sat off to the side in Baton Rouge church, pastor Dennis Terry, who introduced the Republican hopeful, delivered some fiery rhetoric about religious tolerance. "I don’t care what the liberals say, I don’t care what the naysayers say, this nation was founded as a Christian nation," Terry said, adding, "There’s only one God. There’s only one God. And his name is Jesus."
When pressed by reporters on Monday about the comments, Santorum said he did not hold the pastor's views. "I believe in freedom of religion and all religions are welcome and should be. I think I've made that pretty clear throughout my campaign."
The distractions came less than 24 hours before Illinois voters go to the polls to decide how their 54 delegates will be allocated. The state is largely expected to favor Romney, but a strong showing from Santorum could further cement his place as the only candidate able to mount a challenge to the former Massachusetts governor's front-runner status.
With more than 15 media appearances on Monday in addition to the four campaign rallies, the Santorum campaign was hoping to leave Illinois on high note. As Romney delivered an economic address at the University of Chicago, Santorum touted his blue collar candidacy in Dixon, the hometown of GOP hero Ronald Reagan.
"We need someone who can talk and strike blows for big things like Reagan did for freedom, for America," he said while standing in front of bronze statue of Reagan on a horse. "Let’s just be brutally honest about it. There’s one candidate in this race who could never make this race about freedom because he simply abandoned freedom when he was governor of Massachusetts and he abandoned it when he promoted Obamacare in 2009.”
Throughout the day he called out Romney over his ties to Wall Street and a job creation record that, Santorum said, was one of the worst in the country while Romney led the Bay State.
But during his final rally outside a pizza shop in East Peoria, Santorum seemed to acknowledge the toll his off-the-cuff style has taken on him. "When you got out there and you don’t talk from a teleprompter, and you’re not, you know, reading notes that someone else gave you, occasionally you say something things, you wish you had a, you know, a do-over," he said.
"But you know what, I think it’s important that you get a sense of how real the candidate is, mistakes and all.”

Making four stops in the Land of Lincoln, Santorum suggested at a rally in Moline that the nation's unemployment rate "doesn't matter to me."
Of course not. His main concern is how to put corks in womens vaginas.............
.........and bombing Iran.
Its not the scrutiny of the "off-the-cuff" authenticity of his foot shooting but the real BS he spews on a daily basis that should turn people off. I would really like to meet one of the people that vote for him my state's primary.
You can get it riding a cow... You can get it pulling a plough... Matter of fact, I've got one now...
Seriously, Satonum should know that idle hands are the
DivilDevil's tools.Romney and Santorum are doing a great job with helping Obama get re-elected. Keep up the good work guys.
Koo aahhh!! Yeah why fight it? Romney for president.
He's a goddamn loon! Why don't people wake up and see that. Rick Santorum was one of the worst representatives we ever had in Pennsylvania! I mean c'mon you morons, in our state where short of murdering someone, once you are elected to office you stay there because the majority of the rednecks that live here are too stupid to see how much of a turd someone is, he got kicked out! Without a criminal conviction of any kind! That should tell you how bad he is.
Where I live in SW Pa no one ever gets voted out unless they are a real shiit. And even then it still takes an act of congress to get them to accept they lost. We have a convicted state house member still on the ballot. An overbearing, arrogant, self serving, crooked sonofabitch named Bill Deweese who is only awaiting sentencing that refuses to give up and people are still supporting him. Yet Santorum was kicked out. That should tell you how freakin bad he is!
I'm a Pennsyltuckian too, g*d, it's embarrassing.
There he goes again quoting those over-inflated "jobs potential" numbers, while forgetting about the environmental human life destruction such oil/gas development creates. I'd rather keep people alive, but I guess he sees our greed for petroleum as a population control (since these right-wingers want to ban birth control in any form).
jo
Yea, they are needed for the clean ups.
Women would do well to instill modesty and morals instead of allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry into their vagina. Then women wouldn't be in this mess and insisting that the government pay for their birth control, abortions, breast implants, lyposuction and whatever else they're trying to guilt the government into paying for. Women, it's time to be accountable for your actions. You reap what you sow.
"But you know what, I think it’s important that you get a sense of how real the candidate is, mistakes and all.”
I guess people did.
To Honest Jo
All
three paragraphs have the words “COULD
PROVIDE” also in my research I cannot find anyone who will commit to the
figures in your statement as to the amount of jobs that WILL BE CREATED. History proves this never occors.
God's name is Jesus? I thought Jesus was the son of God. Can all you right wing wackos study up a bit?
And the men? They accountable too?
Every day this man put his foot in his mouth and really shows people he could care less about their situation but wants people to vote for him because he is a good moral man(really a good B.S artist) who thinks that women should be under men's moral rules(his own idea about religion) with no opinion what so ever.
onemanonewomanmarriage, REALLY??????
To late stupid you said it you own it.There aren't enough Republican wacko's to elect you get off the ticket so Obama can start putting Romney under the bus
I love republicans. Only they can produce such douchebags.
"Please pass the popcorn."
Clear as mud.
Athanasius Creed:
"We worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity, neither confounding the Persons nor dividing the substance—and yet, they are not three Eternals, but One Eternal, not three Almighties, but One Almighty. So, the Father is God, the Son God, and the Holy Ghost God, and yet they are not three Gods, but One God.... The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone, not made, nor created, but begotten. The Holy Ghost is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.... And in this Trinity, none is afore or after the other; none is greater or less than another; but the whole three Persons are coeternal together and coequal."
That mess of metaphysical nonsense is how they explain it in Catholicism. God = Jesus, Jesus = God... co-equal but not co-equal... blah blah. And you thought politicians today had some twisted logic. I guess you can make up whatever nonsensical explanation you want so long as you're dealing with magical imaginary entities.
Guys...uh...The RNC isn't as unprepared as they are making it appear. They are letting Santorum, Romney, Paul and Gingrich sweat bullets out there on the campaign trail. The RNC will do their famous magic trick and force a convention floor vote for a candidate no one will have heard of. Then, you see, their magic works wonders. The mystery candidate will rock the GOP world and knock out these others.
So what's the real operative at work with the bad mouthing of women and put downs by the GOP bully bois? Simple...they are neurotically terrified that in 2016, no male candidate will win from either party. They know that women are fed up to the teeth with the little bois games. They know women don't NEED any man because most women today live on half of what men do and still manage to make it taking in childcare, parent care and their households....all without a man underfoot to make things worse with the bully boi attitude.
Yes...the GOP knows how to kill two birds with a single stone: surprise their electorate with a mystery man no one will have time to investigate thoroughly (always a GOP control freak mechanism for them) and effectively insure they get their male candidate in 2016 by making sure 90% of the female population remains pregnant or barefoot. Works for them...roflmao.
Dear RNC,
I have predominantly voted the conservative side of the ticket for as long as I can remember, but if Santorum gets the nomination you can count on my vote being for Obama. This man is not a Republican (not the type I want to be associated with anyway) and his views on womens rights, the economy and world affairs scare the hell out of me.
Sanitorium....if Reagan ran today, he would be kicked out of the GOP teaparty for being too liberal. Yes "saint ronnie" was when our "race to the bottom" began due to his attacks on Unions and the middleclass.Reagan implemented the largest tax hike in American history. He was led (and publicly ordered) around by banksters and wallstreet kings. You can watch old speeches on youtube and hear Don Reagan (Lehman brothers) tell Reagan things like "finish up," he never threw in a "Mr. President" or a kind word.
Reagan was a mentally confused actor, bought by Wall St. to change the oversight rules. He DID implent the largest tax increase in our history. Fortunatey, even though he decreased the taxes on the wealthy some, he did not even come close to implementing the paltry taxes they now pay. Back then real Americans would have revolted. He started the elite take-over, but his predecessors saw it through. As I said, he would be considered way too liberal for todays GOP. Even in our other corporate owned party, the democratic party, he would be considered a liberal. That is how much the elites have taken over our government.
The field of politics is so inanate at times. I personally find Santorum to be a masogonist, an intellectual light weight, and generally laughable as a candidate. However, taking a comment that was clearly off the cuff (even if it was agregiously stupid) and making it into such a mountain is just silly. His views on religion, women, etc. are what I would be incredibly disturbed by, not a 2 second sound bite taken out of context.
If Santorum & Gingrich drag this to the convention floor, don't be surprised if there's a big movement to draft Christie. I wouldn't vote for him but he's probably got a better chance of winning than the three stooges currently at the top. The question would be whether Christie's supersized ego would let him risk a loss in 2012 when he's already said 2016 is more likely. Perhaps he's concluded there won't be a Republican incumbent in 2016.
Good grief. What do we have to say for ourselves that such a person as Santorum could be viewed as a possible leader of the free world?
C,mon people. Get a clue. Read what the good people of Pennsylvania thought of him - booted him out, want nothing to do with him. Check his past voting record, and do take note of what he spews now on a daily basis.
And please, even if you're torn over which one to pick in the primary - do remember in November.
Sadly, the Republican party has become the instrument of the top 1% Americans (and international capital). Santorum is just another religious kook who thinks the 99% can live off the crumbs left on the floor by the 1%.
Well of course the unemployment rate doesn't mean anything to a resident of PLUTO !
Why should it?
The man is 'tipped' showing glaring evidence of it daily.
Christie isn't the man people think he is. He was a Bush-appointed US attorney before he became our governor here in NJ. Now, Governor Bluster Mouth goes around promoting "bully" laws while he defends calling someone at a public meeting "an idiot" in front of a whole crowd of people.
Then, there's one other little nifty trick Christie pulled. He went around the state cutting, cutting, cutting....so he could then kiss up to his 1% North Jersey richsters by giving them a 10% income tax cut...this on top of the 3 they already received in the last decade from the federal government?
Meanwhile, we in NJ get the other side of Christie's fat yap when you ask why we needed an income tax cut before a property tax cut. NJ has the highest property taxes in the country. Something Christie would do to every other state in the union if he has the chance.
Sure, handing out income tax credits "to everyone" as he says sounds fair. Until you realize what the real cost in the billions will be of that income tax credit. None of which the rich will have to end up paying for since their incomes taxes are now down to 15%. Just another 15% to go and you have a 1% in this country totally tax free. This IS what Republicans have been after for years. Their constant demand for tax cuts prove that.
The article states:
The point, he later explained, was that his campaign is based on more fundamental issues than the current jobless numbers and that Republicans do not believe it is the government's role to create employment, only to create an atmosphere for job growth.
Then I would love to know why the republicans are always blaming the democrats and making strong statements against the democrats for the unemployment numbers. After-all, if it isn't the role of government to create employment, why are the republicans always saying that President Obama is to blame for the dismal unemployment numbers.
Just what exactly is an atmosphere for job growth? It sounds like an ambiguous comment that one may use in case they were elected so that no one could use a dismal job growth record against them later. Or perhaps it is a statement that Santorum and the republicans want to use in their continual effort to strip away certain measures that are safeguards for the people of the country but hamper business from further profits at our expense such as corporate tax breaks, trade deficits and sending jobs overseas.
In any case, this reeks of another double standard that the republicans want to use against the democrats.
Don't be a ...
The Republicans use religion to herd the so called religious. The Republican politicians themselves, are not religious. This has been going on since the '60s.
Lets put Rickety on the Unemployment line, Vote this Loser out, hes destroying the GOP.
really, GOD'S name is JESUS? man ,you fanatic's must be trying to one-up the loon's in the muslim faith!GOD and JUSUS probably shaking their head's in disbelief in the ability of man to take simple word's and twist and turn them to back up whatever crap ya peddle! organized religion, worlds largest ponzi scheme!! read the BIBLE,see what it tells you,and keep your money for your family! be kind to and love your fellow human being's! 10 commandments, 10 simple rules to live by!!!!!
Really? If ignorance is bliss, you must be the most blissful person walking the planet. Even your screen name is that of a bigot. And women aren't asking for birth control so they "can get with every Tom, Dick, and Harry. They are asking for it to be paid for through the insurance they pay for for medical purposes. Birth control has other benefits other than preventing pregnancy. You would think that at least one republican would realize that by now.
OBAMA!! 4 more years!!
WTH is wrong with the media and the GOP Establishment. They are forgetting this is a 4 man race and there are those who are well equipped to take on Obama and his Truth Teams. This makes me laugh how anyone can fall for the label. Truth Teams, the truth never has to be defended. I know alot of you out there will disagree with me. Yet that's alright because that is what makes this country great. Is we can all have our own opinions and belief's as long as we aren't harming one another. Yet? What I am seeing so far is a recipe for a complete REVOLUTION. Not just about Dems or Repubs , its about all of these out of touch Representatives in Washington DC who still don't seem to get it. The American Public is tired of business as usual. They want to see results from our Leaders. Yet we are not seeing that at all from any of them. Just a bunch of bickering blame placing finger pointing immature children, even Obama is a guilty as the rest of this bunch. VOTE THEM ALL OUT IN 2012.
PS Ask yourself have any of these Representatives suffered through this economic downturn. Hell no not a one of them felt the economy like us ordinary citizens. Folks its not the little guy who is your enemy its the powers to be from both parties who we need to focus our efforts on if we ever want to stand a chance of ever getting our nation back. Neither Party in my opinion has done a good job.
wow, I couldn't have put into words any better. But I'm sure the real reason he doesn't want to get into economic rhetoric is because it doesn't fit into his constant pandering to the lowest element of the gop. ie, they don't understand it. they only understand "gettin that muslim outta office"
I just have to say this to onemanonewoman. When a woman has s*x, there has to be a man having s*x. STOP BLAMING just the woman!!!!!!!!
Santorum is a pompous ass. Does he ever engage his brain before he opens his mouth to speak? Imagine him trying to take back his words to other world leaders! You don't get a 'do-over' as president.
That some people can support that blowhard should be grounds for a psychiatric evaluation.
Illinois will go for Obama in November anyway.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Two points. First, a woman can have s*x, also known as sex, with another woman. Sometimes there is no man. Just a point of fact. Second, onemanonewoman, was kidding. Nobody could hold that view unless they were either kidding or brain damaged. It's funny.
Damn right we will.
Because your version of truth is one lie after another.
Obama was born in Kenya? Obama is a Muslim?
How is it that the truth never has to be defended from people like you? That's just another one of your lies.
Would Congress please pass a law that says when it's obvious one political party's candidates are a hopeless bunch of losers that will never get elected, let's save the country a bunch of money and give the incumbent a free pass and $200.00 for passing GO.
The guy actually said: There is only one God and his name is Jesus!
Seriously?
Well, that explains the immaculate conception. God just decided to birth himself.
Every time Santorum opens his mouth, he says something even more stupid than the last time he opened it. The biggest difference this time is that he finally said something about a legitimate issue instead of blathering on about his bizarre take on morality (in which area he obviously has plenty of supporters--scary).
Not "fundamental." Fundamentalist.
And wrong.
Oh, hell no. Chubsie is as big an idiot as Frothy and Salamander put together. And I don't mean pants size - even though that may be true as well.
Seriously, these 3 that the MSM keeps talking about - Pot-holder, Frothy and Salamander - are the best the RNC has to offer? Are they TRYING to get Obama re-elected? I'd rather pull a "Futurama" and elect Richard Nixon's head.
Christie as president... consider that for a nanosecond.
The morbidly obese governor of Snookieland is too fat to pass the physical. How could he be Commander-in-Chief? The military would turn him down on sight.
Consider also his record as the governor of one of the most corrupt states in the U.S. Would the people of New Jersey even support him?
They are in touch - with Wall Street, that is. Wall Street and the Donkephants in Washington view the 99% as cattle. Its been 30+ years of this nonsense. Have the unemployed / under employed seen any protection from offshoring? Where are the protections for small businesses? Wall Street and private equity thrive year after year. People like CEO Jeff Immelt use both parties for their own expansive interests.
Neither Romney nor Santorum know a damned thing about economy for the good of the country. Sanotrum hasn't claim any superb knowledge in economy, he's too busy attacking individual rights and freedom. Romney may keep claiming he would be great for the economy because of his wealth. In that sense, any of the 1% in this country can claim they can run this country. In fact, they do already by putting as many GOP/TP nuts in office. Look at Norquiest and the Koch brothers. They are the puppet masters pulling the strings of the republican party. They're in fact trying to run this country down into the ground while they're reaping in more tax payers' $$ into their swiss bank accounts. Their superb economic knowledge is to transfer whatever the 99% in this country owns to the top 1%. Money means power. with the 99% becoming dirt poor, it will secure the top 1% total control of the country. Now, that's Romney's great knowledge in economy!!! So it makes perfect sense to him to want GM and Chrysler to go bankrupt. He builds his own economy on the misfortunate of others. His economy is DESTRUCTIVE in order to create wealth for HIMSELF!!! The republican elites are already eyeing for war with Iran. It will be another great opportunity to reap any remaining wealth left among the middle class into the pockets of the 1%. They will keep promoting more tax cut for the rich so they will feel comfortable enough to create jobs, yet they will raise the tax on the middle class and draft the sons and daughers from the middle class and poor families to fight and die for them. Having any republican to run the country in this international environment will be even worse than GWBush/Cheney.
President Obama may not be perfect, but he's way better than any of these self-serving and flip-flopping idiots whose destructive intentions are so obvious. He's doing a good job in rebuilding the economy and international relationship of this country. To vote him out and stop his progress on the track is suicide on the national level! The far right nuts may be too stupid and too racious to see through the skin color of a good president, but any moderate republicans and independents and democrats with any sense left should vote for their very own interest and survival, not for any stupid idealism.
Of course he's not worried about unemployment. There will be plenty of jobs for the men once all the women are home, barefoot and pregnant, again.
I agree with your comment, except for this:
The 99% have 99% of the votes. We do not have to become the modern-day serfs of the wealthy. We will cut our own throats only out of apathy and ignorance.
We do have power. We need to recognize our power and use our power.
This country belongs to us.
kaybeetoys, I hope you're right. I just hope there're not too many among the 99% could be persuaded by the far right propaganda nut jobs like fox news and other far right outlets. Don't underestimate the power of perjudice and stupidity. I have friends in northern Maine who're stunned by the blind hatred of the residents there against president Obama. It's a small dirt poor community in northern Maine by the canadian border (don't want to name the town), but it has a commanding majority of republican. most people there live on welfare and medicaid, yet they believe the Obama admin is evil. Many of such people are simply too stuck in their own routine in watching fox news and rush limbaugh. They simply don't care to know if anything else exist outside of their tiny cocoon, not to mention the truth.
Duh, everyone knows the government doesn't belong in the economy. It's main role is supposed to be in our bedrooms. Hello!?!?!
This is my favorite TP/GOP fallacy. That they're all about smaller government. Maybe, but only for multinational corporations. So yes, let's have completely unregulated commerce and not tax rich people, while telling Joe and Susie Schmo who they can marry, what she can do with her body, and legislate against anything that may go against there religion.
Sarah, you are the best. Let me just say, though, that there are many conservatives/Republicans, who absolutely do not want the government in the bedroom. Certainly, that is the belief of the hypocritical, 'evangelical' 'conservative' who lies that they want small government, but really just want a mega church as the government. I find that particular group has gone too far and so it isn't surprising these days to find that ALL GOP are associated with this psychotic group of troubled people who either really believe in using the Bible to manipulate others.
Once upon a time conservatives actually fought for the gub to stay out of the bedroom. That must have been back in 1994. It is amazing to watch the social regression. Either that, or tell me where all the thinking people in the party went? Wait, they are still there, just being shafted and marginalized by the Santorums of the world.
This becomes bad enough, I AM putting on a suit of armor.
anIndependent, it is true that a huge number of people are manipulated into going against their own interests. The issues we face are complicated and hard to solve and it's so much easier just to let Limbaugh, O'Reilly or your priest tell you how to vote. Why not relax, sit back and watch the latest reality show on TV and let others do the thinking for you?
But we do have common sense on our side. We do have a slate of GOP nominee wannabees who make themselves look more inept and clueless as every month passes. They have insulted and alienated nearly every group of people in the country.
We do have a fine leader in the oval office who has done a great deal of good, even with both hands tied behind his back. The economy is turning around. We have health care reform. We can be confident in his judgment in world affairs. Obama has kept us safe.
Obama won in 2008 and he can and will win in November. It's up to us to make that happen.
We cannot let our hopes and dreams for the future die out of prejudice and stupidity.
Ricky, Ricky, Ricky. Don't pay any attention to that old lamestream media and their "gotcha" journalism. You just keep telling us what's REALLY in your heart, what your REAL motivation is, and what REALLY drives you. I'm sure the American people will support you - I mean, how could they not when you're so sincere?
*wink*
No wonder Obama's campaign managers want the president to run against Santorum. As much of a creampuff as Romney would be, Santorum is absolutely unable to restrain himself from saying whatever pops into his dark, filthy mind and he would be steamrolled at the polls in November.
And people wonder why the GOP is circling the drain. Damn.
How silly. Everyone knows that god's name is Zeus.
Yeah except the Keystone XL job numbers have all been debunked and we all read about it. Most of the temporary construction jobs would go to Canadians since it's a Canadian company. After being built the number of jobs would be more along the lines of 2000-6000. Who do you think's more likely to work on a Canadian owned pipeline? Americans or Canadians?
The oil would be piped directly to a port/refinery in Texas where it would be exported for sale on the open market. So much for lowering prices or dependence here. Not only that it has been heavily reported on MSNBC and elsewhere that it would actually raise gas prices in the mid-west. The current oil glut in the mid-west could more easily be gotten to port and exported with Keystone.
Looks to me like Keystone XL only benefits a Canadian pipeline company, the Koch brothers, the refinery in Texas and the oil companies who will sell the oil internationally. Not here. So don't even start on that "But then Chiiiina will get the pipeline!". No they won't. They'll have to buy the oil on the international market like everyone else. Wherever the sludge gets piped too. I'm sure Canada would rather have the risk over our soil instead of theirs though.
The people of the US will have to pay for the losses when it spills. And if it poisons one of the aquifers in the breadbasket of this country, where it is running through, we could pay in more than one way. Why mess with our food and water supply so the Koch brothers and the oil companies can make a few more billion? They've got enough. Is 2000-6000 jobs really worth that?
one man: "Women would do well to instill modesty and morals instead of allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry into their vagina"
Why don't you tell Tom, DICK and Harry to keep it zipped up in their pants! Why aren't YOU accountable too?
Erin - I agree - Onemanonewomanmarriage is obviously a nut bag. I am sure he takes his Viagra regularly and feels totally entitled. Women should instill modesty and morals!!! Are you kidding?
.
Romney definitely had to strike back against Santorum's line, to repent of his own "I'm not concerned about the very poor".
The choice in November is between either a candidate who doesn't care about the unemployment rate, or one who doesn't care about the very poor, and a candidate (Obama), who has said he cares about all of the above. Seems simple to me!
In spite of his rhetoric, I don't think you can make that case for Obama, Kent. He doesn't REALLY care about middle class and poor people - How is his monetary policy that is inflating away the buying power of our paychecks and making it nearly impossible to save for retirement (or even a rainy day) helping us? How can you claim he cares about the middle class when Obamacare is more about enriching big pharma than taking care of people? He supported bailing out Wall St. and sticking us with the bill. No.... Obama talks a good game and can be very convincing, but actions speak louder than words. I am voting for Ron Paul whether he is on the ballot or not in November.
James Carville once said that Pennsylvania is Philadelphia in the East, Pittsburgh in the West and Alabama in between. Guess who voted to boost Santorum to the national level in the first place? 'Nuff said.
"What Rickety is doing to the GOP is Unrepairable"
I hope your're right, Patriotic American.
To paraphrase Limbaugh, I'd love to see them fail.
The only way the GOP will get their heads out of their butts and start working for the good of the whole country, not just the rich, is for them to fail utterly and spend forty years in the wilderness, searching for their souls.
Kent, you're absolutely right!
forget about idiots who keeps trying to blame Obama for anything the GOP/TP did and still doing. They're simply zombies in tune with the fox propaganda machine. Their small minds and very limited intelligence won't allow them to see beyond the lies they create for themselves because they're so unable to think outside of their comfortable cocoon no matter how such confinement distort their own beings. Yet they want to contaminate the rest of the country with their malformed minds like viruses. They may not know yet that their own disease is eating them away and they're drowning themselves in their own lies. But trying to infect others with their outrageous lies and stupidity is an absolute sin. Will their almighty god impose justice on them on their judgement day!
santorum ''isn't concerned about unemployment''----- there goes 10% of the votes right off the top. just what was the plus side of this comment? just dumb-dumb-dumb!
He doesn't care about unemployment but abortions and porn he cares about? This guy is a nut.
He doesn't care about unemployment but abortions and porn he cares about?
He does not care about porn either. He just says that to convince hypocritical bible thumpers that watch porn just like the rest.
He thinks that as soon as he gets to be President Americans are going to stop watching porn, and stop using birth control? how ASININE is that? He would not even mention those things again if he ever was elected President.
Those are his lines for MORONS that believe him.
To Irespond= Santorum is who he says he is, and that is what scares me. He indeed does care with all his being about extremist right stances to limit our freedom of choice and as Prsident he would use his psition as a Bully Pilpit. Now for reasonforrally- The affordable care act did not enrich pharmaceuticals, in fact they had to drop their drug prices 50% to join the plan. That is one example of how the plan saves us money. If you try a search you can see many other benefits that it has already created. Don't buy into the rightwing bullcrap lies or even me look up the facts before blurting out an untruth and discrediting yourself. KAYBEETOYS- You are right in that the Republicans need a real smackdown to wake up and realize they can't just support the churches, rich and oil companies and expect the support of the American people.
.
Santorum... what a snob!!!!
nOpe 2012
"Kaybee #2.5, I didn't know they had Souls" ???
'it is important you get a feel for the candidate, mistakes and all'
and i get the feeling it would be a mistake to vote for this clown!!!
If his comment about not caring about the unemployment rate was his only mistake, then yes, we could possibly get a feel of the real Santorum but when it happens day in and day out, you not only get a feel but you now have no doubt what Santorum is really like. Santorum is all about him and it shows every time he opens his mouth. I mean the guy wants to be President but he can't even manage his campaign. How does he expect to be President when again he is not on the ballot in four of the districts in IL and not even on the ballot of winner take all D.C? The guy is a joke. I mean he really can't expect to be President, can he?
He'd really rather be POPE but that job is filled.

Even though I am a life-long democrat, I will vote for Obama as the lesser of the evils. By promoting the "Bush doctrine" of the unitary executive and being unable to negotiate for American rights and no-brainers like increasing taxes on the wealthy and implementing legislation to regain good paying American jobs,etc..I am convinced that while the GOP is insane and openly does the bidding of the elite, the democrat party is also corporate owned (yes "citizens united" made it very difficult to be anything else) . Unless we get a peoples party to improve the lives of the 90% of struggling Americans, we may just as well leave this country. Our suffering and loss of rights has just begun.
I think the people of lllinois are smarter than Santorum thinks, he will lose the lllinois primary.
you said a mouthful! i have to agree with you
Hugh: as someone pointed out, clowns are smarter than Santorum, or Romney, or Gingrich.
"Clowns have more integrity than the Tea Retards and the Kocheads that support this loose nut Rickety Sanatorium"
So, I thought the jesus = son of God ?
Not actual God?
why is a preacher going around spreading his political views anyway? hope not during church services? must be nice to be tax free?
Someone from the Glenn Beck Crowd? Hmmmmmm
The father, the son and the holy spirit are considered one.
Pay attention Republicans your candidate will be one of these two clowns. You have a shamed Pennsylvania Representative with a "god affliction" who probably chalks being unemployed up to "God works in mysterious ways" and an ex-Massachusetts Governor who before becoming the perminant fixture on the campaign trail (What is this like his 3rd crack at President) was a major part of a company that strip mined companies of any value then sold them before they folded. So you have the two main Republican platforms in general represented. God and Capitalism. But this country doesn't need a pastor or a capitalist we need a President.
Personally, although he claims to be Catholic, Santorum is more reminiscent of those tent revivalist preachers you might have seen back in the desperate days of the Great Depression in the 1930's. His views are just as antiquated.
I have a serious problem with anyone running for office who can't keep his religion to himself. Anything less is proselytizing. Americans aren't morally bankrupt. We always stop, think and try to do the right thing even when all obstacles are against us. Look no further than the Founding Fathers for that basic premise.
The two worst religions in this country right now are ideology and greed. Those are the two the most guilty can't admit. If not for ideology, Santorum wouldn't even be on the campaign trail. If not for greed, neither would Gingrich, Paul or Romney. Look behind them...you'll see their crony capitalism easily.
Catholics believe in the Trinity made up of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It's complicated and hard to understand. There are theologians still debating the exact nature.
"Rickety's insanity is Scary"
ewent..."We always stop, think and try to do the right thing even when all obstacles are against us."
You are excluding the corporate and big banker fat-cats, union-boss thugs, wall street crowd, race-baiters, special interest groupies and the 500+ politicians in D.C., etc. types right? Otherwise your statement makes no sense at all.
I am a Christian. I do not believe in forcing my beliefs on others. All of these clowns are, IMO, greedy idiots. I will not be surprised when Jeb Bush is rolled out at the convention as the only hope of the GOP. Bush's know how to steal elections.
The only hope for the rest of us average Americans, is to join and support the Occupy movement. Fight the brutality with passive resistance and remain strong in our belief that the only way Americans will defeat the elite rulers is by taking back our governance. Every successful American movement has been won through passive resistance (civil disobediance) which the Congress is busy making a felony, to prevent us from exercising our 1st ammendment rights. The MSM and all of the "talking heads" are trying to convince America that Occupy is dead and only the worst elements of our society are still involved. Occupy is what we make it, despite the violent police-state repression that is being waged against the majority of Americans who dare to speak-up. This can be our "American-Spring," the time when Americans can stop our oppression and instill some respect for average Americans into the equation. Please, this land IS our land. Unless we stand up NOW it will be too late. Let's all come together and level our playing field.
I am so tired of being stepped on as the sociopaths climb over me to take all they can.
"I believe in freedom of religion and all religions are welcome and should be. I think I've made that pretty clear throughout my campaign."
And of course, while I do not endorse Pastor Terry Perkins' Anti-Semite, Anti-Islam, Anti-Buda, Anti-Mormon diatribe, sure was fun sitting here next to him listening to it.
In other words, Yuns are welcome to come into my church, just don't bring yur own prayers.
Yes I thought the same Jesus= son of God that is what I remember from school and the Trinity Mystery but never that That God's name was Jesus…
It is sad that these MORON keep comparing themselves to Reagan, he would roll over in his grave. Santorum just needs to SHUT UP and run for Pope and leave the rest of us alone and take his clan with him.
If you're going to compare yourselves to a dead President, at least pick a GOOD one. Reagan SUCKED and I'm fed up with 30 years of the bankrupting "supply side economics" policy that got us here which these nuts just want MORE of only on STEROIDS. Obama has tried in the face of so much obstruction to curb it and the result HAS been slow but steady job CREATION.
If Reagan had taken over after the crash most of us who lost their jobs would have good ones back by now. Just because you don't like someone, doesn't erase a fact.
http://quitenormal.wordpress.com/2011/07/06/obama-recession-slowest-recovery-since-great-depression/
Not only would you probably not have a job if Reagan was President but you would be paying higher taxes as well. Just because you like someone doesn't erase history.
Reagan was a bad actor, except when he was elected president.
Reagan was a doddering old fool in the early stages of Alzhiemer's Disease. He took more vacations than anybody. His main focus was photo ops of him chopping wood on his 'ranch'.
His trickle down didn't work, never has worked, and never will work.
Reagan was another in a line of Republican puppets. The GOP party bosses don't want a "leader" who will lead autonomously of their hard line ideology. So they always will choose men they know are easily controllable. That way all the real work is done not from an Oval Office but from the direct connection to their party bosses. That's what's go so wrong in politics today. A handful of all too powerful MEN make all the decisions of who will be their front runners. They only let you think you are voting in primaries. They had their choices all sealed up the minute the hint of the next election takes place.
Right now, their biggest fear is a female president in 2016. And no. It won't be Hillary Clinton. The rigors of her job asf Secretary of State and her age preclude that possibility. Notice how one of their finest Republican women just last month "retired"? Olympia Snowe, along with Susan Collins or Kaye Bailey Hutchinson are 3 of the most dangerous GOP women in their party because they are highly electable. Can you just see Bailey Hutchinson or Collins taking orders from Rove? Wouldn't happen. Nothing is more dangerous to the GOP Party than an electable female candidate.
With Republicans, you have to stay one step ahead of them. Because they are always thinking 8 years ahead of whomever is in the White House at present. Don't believe it? How do you think Bush '43 ended up president? That was a carefully crafted political coup de etat that took them a full 8 Clinton years to accomplish using that Rovian think tank to create the architecture.
Woody
Just because a president is president doesn't mean he is the source everything.
The only tax that Reagan wanted raised while in the White House was the Social Security tax. Other than that he closed tax loop holes.
The rest of the tax increases were forced on him by Congress, pushed by the democrat majority in the house who insisted on them, the other thing forced on him by the house was eating his $1.00 of spending cuts for each $1.00 of tax cut. They gave him the cuts because they feared his victories and sway of the people, but planted a number of political angles to use for years to come. Like huge deficits, and big tax increaser - just like you and many other fall for because you really don't understand how our government works - you just want results.
Seeing how this recession occurred due to the similar shenanigans that caused the great depression I dont think it is surprising that it is taking so long to recover.
Financial meltdown -> G-S created -> No more meltdowns -> G-S repealed -> Financial meltdown
DB Akron,
You said, "If Reagan had taken over after the crash most of us who lost their jobs would have good ones back by now. Just because you don't like someone, doesn't erase a fact."
But, the high-paying manufacturing jobs that existed before the 1980-82 recession were replaced by low-paying service jobs in the recover of 1983-84. If you can't remember that far back, then read The Great U-Turn by Bennett Harrison & Harry Bluestone. How can you say that if Reagan were president now, people who lost their jobs would have good ones back? They didn't get good ones back when Reagan was president.
Just because you like somebody, doesn't erase a fact, either!
DB - you are really quite impressed with yourself, aren't you? Most of your posts are arrogant and self-serving.
You guys sound so displeased. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a politician that will tell you everything you want to hear and deliver on none of the promises if you'd like. At least Santorum is willing to admit he made a mistake. Romney is so convinced he's perfect he has to brainwash himself everytime he switches stances on a matter so never has to admit he's wrong. Please give me an honest President this year...
Santorum is a religious fanatic, and he hasn't just made a mistake here, it is all the time. He then whines that he didn't mean it that way. He holds the record for ignorant remarks. He was never a blue collar person. That was grandfather long ago. He is lawyer, a lying politician, a thieving lobbyist, etc. Actually, he is the male version of Michelle Bachmann--a real live tea party wacko.
Good luck on that one Ben
I'm sure he resents that. Being a male, he is, of course, better than Bachmann. In his little world, women exist only to give birth.
The problem is Santorum is always making "mistakes", which clearly demonstrates that he has a bad case of "mistaken judgement", also known as "hoof in mouth" disease. His other problem is that he wants to control our lives with his vision of faith, and its roll in our lives, and in government.
One thing about Santorum, he is warning you of what his intentions are. Vote for him now, or in the General election at your own peril.
Santorum is also a crook: "Santorum, used $100,000 of Pennsylvania state funds earmarked for that state's school children to educate his own children, who were not residents of Pennsylvania. source ()". Citizens for Responsibility And Ethics In Washington named him one of the three most corrupt Senators for 2006 (along with Conrad Burns and Bill Frist.)RATS: this forum won't let me copy and paste links. citizensforethics.org/index.php/press/entry/crew-releases-second-annual-most-corrupt-members-of-congress-report/
Now, however you want to interpret this -after all, everyone has an axe to grind -IMO where there is smoke, there is fire. And there's been a LOT of smoke around Rick Santorum over the years.
YO ONEMANONEWOMANMARRIAGE
Would you keep it down, I'm trying to watch the Ozzie and Harriet show. Goober's gas station called, your Desoto is ready.
PS: Don't, whatever you do, go anywhere outside your home. There are divorced/remarried people EVERYWHERE.
What a three ring circus these clowns have put on. you have an adulter a woman hater and best of all a nit wit mitt. Fellas if this is the best you have i pity you in November. mmmmm No i dont lmao you righties are a bunch of losers. Obama by a landslide 2012
Don't under estimate their base to come out and vote and enough of ours not to by "false security, complacency and of course all these crap laws that have disenfranchised so many". Everyone who is determined to keep America from completely getting under the control of these freaks MUST VOTE and get others to do the same. Our "second chances" are OVER!!!!
There is a sucker born every minute, and I fully expect a lot of right wing suckers will convince themselves by November that Willard has become Presidential material. They will know in their heart that he is nothing more than a con man, but they will hold their noses and vote for him because they have been indoctrinated to believe all the world's ills are Obama's fault.
It is indeed hard to imagine any of the GOP candidates actually winning the Presidency....HOWEVER....we must remember that there is a strong faction who actually LIKE these guys and a perhaps even stronger group who remain loyal to the Anyone But Obama philosophy. I know it's hard to wrap one's mind around this...but we must not become complacent!! ****TALK ABOUT YOUR SUPPORT OF PRES OBAMA AND WHY...START NOW! COME NOVEMBER, VOTE AND GET ALL YOUR LIKE MINDED FRIENDS TO VOTE, TOO!!! THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL (hard as that is to imagine) UNLESS WE MAKE SURE IT IS!!****
teresa, kiwi, & starderup, I agree 100% with your posts. The hatred for President Obama is so intense that the GOP/TPers don't care who the opponent is - they will be out in droves to vote out Obama. A lot of us got complacent and some were just pouting that Obama didn't make everything right in 2 years, so we got the 2010 debacle. Don't let that happen again. Work in your districts to make sure all voters have proper i.d.
This slate of candidates is what the GOP wants you to see. Then, wham, bam, thank you m'am come the convention and a pure, virginal, faultless GOP candidate appears out of no where. It's a set up guys. Isn't that how exactly Bush got elected? The GOP went out there painting Clinton the black, dirty, immoral man and out of the magician's magic hat comes pure, lily white George W. Bush all spanking clean and prepped for the presidency his old man and Cheney set up before Clinton was even elected.
You can't accept what anyone in the GOP shows you. It's a deliberate illusion to hide what they are really planning. And no. That's not a conspiracy theory. It's called "politics".
Santorum has no brain, Romney has no courage and our former speaker has no heart. I feel like I'm in Oz. When you guys are done destroying my party can I have it back.
First they have to destroy America then you can have your party back. Bush was just the first wave of attacks on common sense and education. Now you have a blood sucking businessman that would eat his own children and a God freak that wants Jesus to be his VP. Both are not what this country needs to get back on track. Now if we could get there base to accept reality and realize that outside of pandering these two are not going to do what's in their best interest.
Just gotta love these guys! We need to vote every GOP incumbent OUT of the House and Senate this November. They deserve it.
Obama/Biden 2012
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The teapub doesn't seem to say anything you can process as relating to a campaign. Scares me. I am looking forward to voting for Obama/Biden. Real men. Rickie is not a real male either. Very strange.
Thats right, there is only one god, and his name is Odin!
....Thought I was the only one
kflann, like your comment. Personally, I get sick and tired whenever I hear assertions that the US was founded as a Christian state. Simply put: it was not. It was founded by freethinkers, atheist/agnostics and Christain sects that were so afraid of each other that they expressly wanted protections from one sect dictating how another worshiped (primarily Catholics vs. Protestants). "Christian morals" may have been the basis for some of our criminal codes, but not the Constitution. Note the conspicuous lack of reference to "God", "Jehovah", "Yahweh", "Buddha", or "Allah". Freethinkers believed in a creator, but not one that was necessarily the Christian god. It's even funnier when Catholics, despite being self-proclaimed monotheists, are actually polytheists (just think, they working the holy trinity: the father, the son and the ghost. mono means one. poly means many. Last I studied math, 3 is not one and thus many).
Santorum is the anti-christ and I am grateful to have the 2nd ammendment to protect me from the religious wingnuts trying to shove their religion down my throat. It does amaze me though that Mitt can even walk, lacking a backbone like he does. And Reagan could not win the republican primary today, they thought they could control the nut cases and now the nut cases control the party. There is nothing new about the tea party or any of that, before they were called John Birchers or KKK, Michigan militia, minuteman, the fringe nut jobs and they took over the "grand old party".
"Laugh about it, shout about it, when you've got to choose,
Either way you look at it, you lose..." Paul Simon, 1968
Some things never change...
It's time the IRS started visiting these so called churches, and adjusting their tax status accordingly. We've got wars that need to be paid for and we need to start sending out bills to these ignorant preacher who hide behind the pulpits and scam the citizens for their tax free status, while using their positions of authority to spew their political views.
OHC3381930, I have no clue if you attend a church service during the week, or even did your research before making your statement, but in the denomination to which I belong the ministers pay quarterly estimated taxes, property taxes - if the have their own home instead of a parsonage, and have to file their tax returns like everyone else.
Carole, yes, the ministers are technically self employed...but the church itself enjoys non profit status. I no longer attend church. It's just gotten too political thanks to people who can't and won't leave their politics at home. It was the one place I used to think I could go for some peace and quiet.
OHC- are you a democrat?
OHC, and would that include the church Valerie Jarrett was at on MLK day when she made a VERY political speech supporting Obama ? You seem to forget what black churches were doing during the 08 election. It goes both ways.
I WAS going to Curves for a workout (not that good anyway), but then I realized that the owner is a teapub religious fanatic. The thing is that the govt. was supporting this membership when the owner is an abortion foe and thinks he knows it all about women. He is definitely a pervert, but did serve six mos. in jail in Texas for non-support of his children. Then he got religion--nothing more obnoxious. you have seen the filth that is circulating relating to us poor women.
Alecia-----Take a deep breath......................
Obama is at war with the american people over gas prices. He will lose in november. Then the american people can heal from the disastrous obamanomics of the past 3 yrs.
Life does not revolve around gas prices or your LIES. Please see 2008 at this time and what Faux Noise was saying about Presidents and gas prices THEN troll. Cut the crap.
pelosi blames bush for high gas prices. Thats what it says.
All you thick headed sheep with pigskin over your eyes, high gas prices come from your need to have gas, and corporate greed from the desire to make as much as they can. But I for one DO hope you all keep thinking this way, cuz obama will be ousted for sure.
nmac ... put the crack pipe down already.
Pelosi did lambast Bush about gas prices. And, on the campaign trail in 08, obama did, too. So, if Bush was responsible as President, then so is Obama. You all can't have it both ways anymore.
Obama's energy policy..... keep air in your tires properly.
nmac, if you weren't so ignorant, you would know that is one of the things you should do to get better gas mileage. It's a well know fact.
The american people have suffered enough of obamanomics the past 3 years. Come november they will begin to heal after electing a tea party republican.
LMAO!!!!!! These extremists NUTS are the reason President Obama is winning women, over 50% of the electorate by double digits right now. Dream on fruit cake!!!
obama will lose 40 states in november.
Oh you're not bragging about how he'll lose all "57 states" troll?
he will win 10 states.
California (55)
Connecticut (7)
Delaware (3)
Dist. of Columbia (3)
Hawaii (4)
Illinois (20)
Maryland (10)
Massachusetts (11)
New York (29)
Rhode Island (4)
Vermont (3)
Why do those states look like they have the highest percentage of educated people? You mean, folks with education vote for Obama? Interesting. Maybe there's something to that.
you seem to have forgotten New Jersey, Michigan, Wisconsin,Minnesota, Virginia, , New Mexico, Washington State, Oregon, Arizona, Maine, Iowa, Ohio, These alone plus yours gets him to 275 and I havent even put on North Carolina or Florida or Colorodo or Nevada or Indiana or Pennsylvania
nmac - looks like you have some fuzzy math going on. As Brucef points out, you left out quite a few.
They both suck and are hypocritical LIARS!!! President Obama will win Illinois, WI, MI, OH, IN, and we will do everything to GOTV!!!!
wish someone would tell you to "SHUTUP"!
I'm Mad, I agree with you TvR should have done her research B4 making her statements. An uninformed/unresearched statement sounds like she is really a Santorum groupie in disguise. LOL
I know you tea-tools hate free speech, but too bad. Theresa can say whatever she wants on a public forum. Get used to it.
It is now official, obama has created more debt than any president in the history of the u.s.
You lie more then these whacko teahadist candidates do. Nice going. You can run for office on the gop/tp ticket now as that is pretty much all it takes. Oh and find a mega-billioanire to bankroll you so you can stay in the race.
mmac - you are full of crap. Prove your lie, list your source. Obama 2012. He needs another four years to clean up the Cheney/Bush mess!
then someone else will need twelve years to clean up obamas mess. I say we get an early start on that one!
Ronald Reagan increased the national debt 189% in his two terms. Obama is neither close to nor on pace with that figure. But hey, spin the numbers any way you want. You do the conservative cause no justice when you display blatant ignorance like this. Trolls like you are driving voters away from your party in droves. I've voted conservative my entire life. Yet I'll vote for Obama in November if for nothing more than to cancel out yours, mmac. Congratulations.
More Rush Limbaugh and FAUX NEWS facts and figures, mmac? It's that fuzzy math thing, isn't it. Can't comprehend the math so you just buy the lies.
Tweedledum and tweedledumber!
obama is bankrupting america. He has added more debt than any president in u.s. history. The american people will save america by voting out obama in november.
How many times are you planning to repost lies? I mean, are you paid per lie you copy and paste? The T Party is so beyond being the least bit relevant in this race, but seems someone is paying people to troll comments
I belive the unemployment rate doesn't matter to Rick Sanitarium. He is being honest, because NOT MUCH matters to this knucklhead. Romney is partly right and partly wrong. Rick is NOT an economic lighjweight BECAUSE he came out of Conress much more wealthy than when he went in (learned the system, I would say) and then used his connections from Congress to get richer while helping his friends get richer. So, NOT an economic lighweight. He is, however, and INTELLECTUAL LIGHTWEIGHT, a man with NO real ideas EXCEPT his own agenda, which is being a self appointed important person. It is amazing HE has become the front running Tea Party wing nut, outdoing Bachman, Perry, Gingrich, and the rest of the first class losers. It is a SAD state of affairs for the republicans. The fact that Mitt Romney is leading the pack is a GOOD thing in comparison. But it is all relative and subjective, It just goes to show as BAD as the democrats are, the republicans are WORSE.
Bill, good post. Obama though is INFINITELY the best of ALL those Repuglican IDIOTS and Sanitarium is the KING OF IDIOTS!
when gas prices were rising on the american people, obama was calling dem senators to vote against the keystone pipeline.
mmac,
The oil from the Keystone Pipeline is intended for EXPORT to foreign countries. When Obama and the Democrats tried include a passage in the bill forcing the Oil Companies to keep the oil in this country the Republicans rejected it.
That's why Obama vetoed it.
Good thing we have 8 years worth of video proclamations by Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Carl Rove and Dick Cheney all declaring the President has ZERO control over gasoline prices.
Why was there no outcry over deficits when Reagan was in office? Bush the 1st? Bush the 2nd? No Republican ever cried about the cost of the War in Iraq, the Medicare Prescription Bill or the Bush Tax Cuts... those three items added nearly $4 trillion to the deficit... now you act like spending is sin... HYPOCRITES!
Keystone XL will likely RAISE fuel prices, and likely hurt job creation. The existing pipelines are not being used to full capacity as it is. The project is intended to make exports easier, by providing access to gulf port facilities, as well as decreasing "oversupply" in the Midwestern states. It is a bad deal for ordinary Americans, period.
See:
http://www.tarsandsaction.org/spread-the-word/key-facts-keystone-xl/
http://www.drudge.com/news/154433/keystone-xl-transcanada-study-shows
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/will-the-keystone-xl-pipeline-lower-gasoline-prices/2012/03/01/gIQAtWkXlR_blog.html
The fact is as plain as the testimony to the Canadian National Energy Board, in which the advocates for the project stated clearly that XL would raise the price of Canadian crude. THAT is NOT a recipe for lower prices, but for higher profits for foreign oil producers. At the same time, Americans would live with virtually all the risk, without any measurable reward beyond a few short term jobs and even fewer that are long term. (Yes, Canadians are foreign.)
Obama is a corporatist, with the best of 'em. But he did make the right call on XL. With any luck, the project is permanently dead.
So, mmac, go back to E-lance and find another corporate trolling opportunity, because you have worn this one out.
You haven't the remotest clue as to what you're talking about. Go back to mowing the lawn or something, that is if you know how to start a lawnmower.
Keystone is not dead, technically. The Chinese government was in negotiations to build their own trans-Canadian pipeline to get the product to a sea port.
Someone WILL build a pipeline to move this product. Tell me...
What would the USA have to loose by allowing China to take on this project???
If China builds the pipeline, will they use 2,000 miles of American steel pipe, or will they use Chinese pipe?
If the Chinese buildthe line, and it is sent Westward, what will be the cost to retransfer the product back to American facilities vs. moving product from TEXAS to American facilities?
Canada owns the product. They have every right to sell it at a price that benefits them. Selling on the open market makes perfect sense. But think about it... Freight/transfer costs from the American Gulf coast into the American supply chain are negligible. For any other bidder of the material to be competitive, they have to add a TON of money into the equation to get it off our shore. All we have to do is flip a lever and reroute the material to our lines. The pipeline - without a doubt - gives us the ultimate advantage.
Do not let the Chinese build the line and take our advantage away - or we will all pay!
The benefits of the Keystone Pipeline have been vastly over exaggerated. Romney at one point claimed it would create 100,000 jobs; a flat out lie. At other times he has said 50,000 while Gingrich recently said 20,000... All bull@!$%# according to the company's own estimates... they claim about 6,000 jobs will result, more than half of which are related to construction and will therefore be temporary.
We are also being lied to by the Natural Gas industry. While there are huge known reserves in this country the estimates of 100 years worth are way out of proportion to what has been proven. Only 15-25 years worth of reserves are proven; the rest is an estimate based on the, 'best possible scenario,' otherwise known as; pure speculation.
They go to great lengths to tell us how much gas is trapped in these shales, but fail to let us in on their dirty little secret; only a percentage of the product is recoverable. Low end, 10%-high end 40%... They always base their estimates on every well producing at the high end.
Wells (gas or oil) don't instantly spit out peak production and stay there until they run dry. There are all kinds of variables with these products. Besides all that the rigth wing simply ignores/denies the fact that domestic oil and gas production are at the highest levels in history right now... under Obama.
KevinMC - Firstly, I am a Republican & I agree with your first paragraph 100%.
Secondly, I disagree with your 2nd and 3rd paragraphs completely, and the 4th one is shaky. I almost never post links to Wiki, but look at this one & see how your thoughts compare to standard industry guidelines involving estimations. You are way off line...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves
Concernedone,
Firstly, you have my sympathies.
Secondly, I don't give a rat's ass what you agree with. Industry guidelines are exactly what I said we can't trust. You may as well get your info from an Exxon commercial. For sixty years the tobacco industry tried to tell us smoking was safe.
I don't claim to have thought of this myself, I paraphrase an article from Slate Magazine that cites the US Energy Information Administration. Here is a sample:
"Typically, the core 10 to 15 percent of a shale formation’s gas is commercially viable. The rest may or may not be—we don’t know at this point. Yet the industry has calculated the potentially recoverable gas as if 100 percent of the plays were equally productive."
Here is the article:
If the link fails, just Google; What The Frack? by Chris Nelder
Now I know Tea Baggers don't believe the Gov't. unless it suits their agenda, but this is an independent (Non Partisan) agency like the OMB and the CBO. According to the EIA, about three quarters of the product the industry is telling us all we can rely on for 100 years has yet to be discovered, may or may not even exist, and may or may not be recoverable.
I guess its easier to have faith in industry if, like Santorum you have faith in invisible omnipotent beings and if you are happy to call yourself a sheep.
KevinMC - Your response is why you are single and lonely, and will be for the rest of your life. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Instead of me doing my usual and trying to find the middle ground - trying to understand your points, I choose to put you on the ignore list since you only want to be righteous in your own little pathetic world. If you would have replied with honor, instead of insult, you may have convinced me. But now you will go the way of OWS and loose the cause..... Good job!
OK, ready for my suspension...
Concernedone,
You lie. You don't look for middle ground. You stake your claim first and then lie in wait like the rest of the GOP hypocrites.
You started your proclamation with, "Firstly I am a Republican..." and then condescended like I should be honored that you agreed with something I said. What... I should feel special because you agree the world is round??
I don't think so. I am not interested in attracting flies which coincidently are equally as attracted to @!$%# as to honey; so if you were the fly, that might explain your attraction to the GOP and to christianity.
I am quite happy, married 35 years, three kids, six grand kids; well adjusted socially, literally hundreds of friends; I've definitely never been as alone as you are when you're with your god.
Remember this; shepherds do not love their flocks, they eat them and wear their skins.
Baaahh!
mmac:
Congress passes the budget not the President. He only signs or does not sign what they send him.
And the dem control congress of 2007-2011 added 5 trillion dollars to debt.
I don't think all the politions in office now or in the future can work together and correct the past mistakes of Bush and Obama era's that ruined our country financially.15 trillion debt, still climbing and all they do is point fingers and critize each other like little kids running our lives and country. While the rest of the world laughs. Why are they concerned with other countries and giving our ideas of failure and foreign aid?
No the Dems have NOT controlled Congress from 2007-2011, thanks to the arcane Senate rules of filibuster and anonymous blocking of bills, plus forcing Supermajority votes on every issue being discussed (cloture votes on everything, preventing bills from even reaching the floor for an up/down vote) and the TPUB control of the House during 2011.
Our economy was ruined, and control over this nation lost, when the Federal Reserve Act was passed. From that point forward we were at the mercy of a small handful of greedy, self-centered autocrats.
The only president who has had the strength of character to challenge them was Kennedy ... he had our treasury start to print REAL American money again (US Treasury notes) ... and look what that got him.
actually the executive order to disband the fed was signed by Kennedy. dont know what ever happened to it though. But you're right the last 2 presidents actually even though there was no fed when Lincoln was in office his greenbacks were from the same cloth as gold backed currency
The healing of america will begin in november with a new president elect.
Thankfully Pres. Obama will win a 2nd term. You die-hard right wing racist mmmmmorons like mmac, conveniently forget that Bush/Cheney spent us into this debt slide. Trillions on 2 "Texas-justice" wars, while funneling trillions more to Haleburton with illegal "no-bid" contracts. Creating the economic policies that encouraged Wall St to nearly destroy our country. We lost more freedoms under "the Patriot Act", than ANYTHING this current admin has done. The repub congress under Bush even had to destroy the post office on their way out the door. Nothing to stop the 350% increase in health care costs under Bush. Nothing done to secure our borders, just spy on our own citizens. When gas hit $4+/gal under Bush, "Oh, there's nothing the pres can do about that. This was Clinton's fault! Grow a sack. Turn off Fox. Learn some facts. 12 years of Regan/Bush left us in a huge recession. Pres Clinton left office with a surplus. 8 years of Bush 2, the worst recession since the republican caused Great Depression. The repubs economic policies DO NOT WORK. Please America, get out and vote. If we give control to the right, plan to lose more freedoms, and get poorer and poorer.
Yes,I'll get out and vote for anyone that not in office now,we need to kickout all present politions!!
But you have to make sure that those you vote for to replace all incumbents aren't worse than those people you want to replace. So far, I haven't seen a single non-incumbent who would be any better than those already in office. They are all crooks or wanna-be crooks. That's why I'm a NO VOTE (NONE OF THE ABOVE in Nevada) voter. Tell all politicians that they are unworthy of your vote. Thoroughly vet every single candidate. Dig deep into their background, their financials, their ties to the greedy, etc.
I for one will be happy to see President Obama take the oath of office in January.
ok mmac, will you at least promise to leave the U.S. (if not kill yourself) whenever President Obama is sworn into office again?
Not with any of the Fab Four currently squabbling for the GOP nomination. No solutions, no answers, and tax pans that create more deficits and suffering for the Middle class, working poor, and unemployed. Each of them is touting a "recovery" plan for America based upon the same failed theories Bush employed to create the economic mess we are now recovering from.
The healing will start when people like you leave this country.
You all do realize that 1000 years from now none of this is going to matter . so let poor deluded mmac have his silly little belief that any of the rep candidates or obama for that matter can save the situation . Soon we're gonna be no.2 ( and we all know what that is ) we had our day in the sun , but it's over . Nobody stays on top forever . Rome went thru it , Spain went thru it , England went thru it , now it's our turn . let China be the world's policeman for the next 100 years or so . No matter how ruthless you may think them and no matter how tough they think they are , it's not going to be as easy or as fun as they think . England found that out in South Africa , We found it out in Vietnam , Russia found it out in afghanistan .
