Gingrich calls political system stupid, vows to stay in the race

PALATINE, Ill. – Hours after finishing a disappointing second place in both the Alabama and Mississippi primaries, Newt Gingrich marched his campaign onward, vowing he is “staying in the race.”

Campaigning in Illinois on Wednesday, Gingrich made little mention of the two contests he had hoped to win in the South. He instead focused his speeches on the big ideas that drive his campaign, explaining that many people just don’t understand what needs to be done to help change the country.

“The thing I find most disheartening about this campaign is the difficulty of talking about positive ideas on a large scale because the news media can’t cover it and candidly, my opponents can’t comprehend it,” Gingrich told the five hundred plus person crowd at the Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. “The result is you can’t have a serious conversation. It doesn’t fit. It doesn’t count. It is as though it doesn’t occur.”

Gingrich, who brought up Alzheimer’s research for the first time in weeks, admitted he wants to be “the candidate of science and technology.”

“We are at the edge of such extraordinary opportunities and it is so hard to get this party to understand it,” said Gingrich, speaking in a more frustrated tone than usual. “Our political system is so methodically and deliberately stupid.”

The calls for Gingrich to exit the race have only increased in the 24 hours since Tuesday’s primaries that Rick Santorum won. But Gingrich says he will not bow out, arguing he is the only Republican who can take on Washington and all the problems that come along with it.

“We cannot be a normal party. If we run a normal campaign trying to govern within the framework of the current system we have no future because people would rather have Democrats do it, they at least enjoy it,” he said. “We are miserable at trying to govern in their system. We are in the business of changing Washington, not being accepted by it. It is a fundamentally different model. It is the base of what Reagan did.”

Leave the newt alone.............he is screwing the g.o.p.'s politics and making the biggest mess possible.

Giving the late night comics great material to write about and faux noise is falling all over themselves.

This will go down in history as the most fuged up election in history. Obama/ Biden 2012 keep up the good

work. My investments are up, jobs are finally being created, lots of bad guys on Wall Street are going to jail.

People are learning not to buy houses and cars they can't afford and to keep their credit cards in their pockets.

Like who needs a thousand dollar pair of shoes ?

I don't understand why people doubt his sincerity in wanting to be the science and technology candidate. After all, he is going to have to depend on all that science and technology to help him build his moon colony in just a few years after he is elected.

Good grief. If he didn't have all of that money he would be locked up somewhere heavily medicated to treat his delusions.

I agree with newt, in that the current system is stupid in many ways, and many candidates aren't particularly the sharpest stick in the shed (rick seems like one of them for sure..mitt might be ok).

but the current system does seem to reward negative deceptive sound bites, and that is a shame.

He is right...it does take an extra level of intellegence to explain your views in away that can be understood by your audience...If "Snookie" crosses the street against the light, the media abondons any attempt to cover anything else...it is sad...But the only reason Santorum and Gingrich is in the race at all is to insure "Romney" gets the nomination...If a real fiscal conservative got into the whitehouse the "R"s and "D"'s would suffer...If there was enough room left in the air for Paul to get a word in edge ways, both parties could cancel christmas...

Ron Paul had what, 16 debates to flap his trap. And he can't get more than 5K people to show up to vote for him. Spare us the "if the media would give him a minute" BS.

Oh please, let him talk. TV is a wasteland these days, and talk of moon bases and people wanting Democrats to do things is keeping me entertained. And the latest spouse is fun to watch, too. I like it when he wears the elephant suit, and thinks nobody knows it's him.

I don't think Eric Cartman...I mean Newt, has much chance of getting the nomination, outside of hiring a hitman or three to help.

Of course the political system is stupid...if you are losing. It's great when you are winning. I would be convinced that our political system is stupid if someone like Newt were to get elected President.

Yes Newt, colonizing the moon is just too hard to comprehend.

Or just maybe too preposterous to even try to.

Stupid?? Well Newt -- the voters aren't falling for your overblown bs like they did in 1994. That tells me the voters have gotten smarter. As for you Newt --- you're a failure. You failed as a college professor, failed as a Speaker, failed as a husband and are failing as a presidential candidate. You're last century's news -- a has been wanna-be, never was.

No come up with a solution to change it back and it won't seem so stupid to you. I know he can't do it, STUPID is what newt is.

Reagan was a good man who became President. I had the privledge of serving under him in the 80's. He had a way about him that made you want to do things he asked. He had respect for people and leadership. Current one has none of that. Yes we are wanting another Reagan and I think he is a good example to strive too.

Good points. I can't say I agreed with all of Reagan's policies, but at least he came out ans said what he was going to do and then did it. He spoke conservatively but governed moderately, and would compromise when necessary to achieve his goals.

He also emphasized the positive and challenged us to do better, far diffferent from the "doom and gloom" of the current crop of GOP candidates.

The eye of newt calls the existing political system stupid?

        1. If that is true he had his chance as speaker to change it - did he? No he made it worse

        2. Now that he is losing his ass he blames the system? Has he looked in the mirror? HAR HAR HAR

        3. Eye of the whiner - "I can't get elected therefore the system is broken, we need to fix it so I can become dictator in chief"

I have one comment Newt THANK GOD WHAT IS LEFT OF OUR POLITICAL SYSTEM WORKS!

Too bad his leadership qualities include a massive ego that makes him think his ideas are the only good ideas. I mean, REALLY, he wants to make the moon the 51st state?

And that mother@!$%#er has the audacity to call himself a SCIENCE candidate? That man wouldnt know science if it were sitting right in front of him. I mean, he denies EVOLUTION!

Well, he should know being the ultimate politician and having spent most of his adult life in the political arena and benefiting from that system. Yes it is stupid when the Republicans can only find the clowns they now have as presidential material and when a handful of the rich control our choices. Not for the reason Gingrich gives. He thinks it is stupid since he is not winning. Go back to your third wife/second mistress (that we know of) and keep looking for that 3rd mistress that is what you are good at Gringrich, cheating. Cheating on your wives, cheating the American public and cheating those who support you. What a loser.
