PALATINE, Ill. – Hours after finishing a disappointing second place in both the Alabama and Mississippi primaries, Newt Gingrich marched his campaign onward, vowing he is “staying in the race.”
Campaigning in Illinois on Wednesday, Gingrich made little mention of the two contests he had hoped to win in the South. He instead focused his speeches on the big ideas that drive his campaign, explaining that many people just don’t understand what needs to be done to help change the country.
“The thing I find most disheartening about this campaign is the difficulty of talking about positive ideas on a large scale because the news media can’t cover it and candidly, my opponents can’t comprehend it,” Gingrich told the five hundred plus person crowd at the Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. “The result is you can’t have a serious conversation. It doesn’t fit. It doesn’t count. It is as though it doesn’t occur.”
Gingrich, who brought up Alzheimer’s research for the first time in weeks, admitted he wants to be “the candidate of science and technology.”
“We are at the edge of such extraordinary opportunities and it is so hard to get this party to understand it,” said Gingrich, speaking in a more frustrated tone than usual. “Our political system is so methodically and deliberately stupid.”
The calls for Gingrich to exit the race have only increased in the 24 hours since Tuesday’s primaries that Rick Santorum won. But Gingrich says he will not bow out, arguing he is the only Republican who can take on Washington and all the problems that come along with it.
“We cannot be a normal party. If we run a normal campaign trying to govern within the framework of the current system we have no future because people would rather have Democrats do it, they at least enjoy it,” he said. “We are miserable at trying to govern in their system. We are in the business of changing Washington, not being accepted by it. It is a fundamentally different model. It is the base of what Reagan did.”

Gingrich wants to have an intelligent conversation. This is the guy who told a Texas church audience that if the US keeps going the way it is, it will become a "secular atheist nation . . . dominated by Islamic fundamentalists." You can't say something that stupidly contradictory and then say you want to have an intelligent conversation. You want to have an intelligent conversation? Start by making intelligent statements.

The main goal of his now is he is just going to try and keep Romney from getting 1144 delegates so Repubicans can have a contested convention! He is hoping then to get the delegates to turn to him and vote for him to become the nominatee at that point and time!That is his plan! Newt calls the system "stupid", yet didn't find it this way when he was a Congressman from Georgia committing adultery.
Newt claims he wants to be the "scientific" president, yet became a member of the Catholic Church to have his previous marriages annulled; but the Church does not believe in a woman's right of choice, Evolution, recent advances in medicine and science and a host of other scientific research.
Newt keeps referring to the multi-adulterous, wife and political party swapping Ronald Reagan; whose change to the U.S.A. nearly tripled the deficit having nothing to do with the collapse of the former U.S.S.R., Reagan "Freedom Fighters" Saddam Hussein, Osma Bin Laden and Al-CIAda are now relabeled "Terrorists". Reagan fomented Treason with the Iran-Contra weapons for cocaine scandal.
There is nothing to be proud of the unpatriotic, immoral and unethical Ronald Reagan administration or Newt Gingrich.

it never fails to amaze me how the right is always saying how great they are and everyone else is wrong. they don't want to pay for anyone else's health care, they say why should i pay for them, let the lazy buy insurance and work hard just like i do. but, as soon as one of them looses a job or the insurance goes up and they can not pay and they get hurt, then they say they should get help. they say that minorities are getting freebies from uncle sam and that the poor do not pay taxes. they are the first to cry that the gov. should stay out of their lives and let them do what they want. they even have the nerve to say stupid things like obama is going to take their guns.
well here's a little info for all the nuts out there who think that way. and if you don't think that way then this should not bother you, but if it does its cause your so closed minded and you hate the fact the pres does not look like you. but hey, we all have our hang ups.
first, everyone pays taxes. it may not be in the form of an income tax but if you buy something you pay taxes. it don't matter if its a candy bar, you and everyone else pays tax on it. to all the NUTS out there that say obama and the dems are going to take your guns, you are really a bunch of dumb a** hicks. everyone knows it takes a change to the constitution to do that and that takes 2/3s votes from the states and the congress to get that done, so that will never happen, and you all know that. you just need something to scream about. ...when the right talks about people on welfare and how minorities are the ones getting it all, i wish they would take a look in the mirror and then check the records. what they will find out is the vast majority of people that are getting benefits are white! yes thats right, white. not black, hispanic or asian or any other race, white.
not think about the insurance issue. why not have a national insurance plan? if you want to be in it, fine. if not and you can afford it, go get something else. see what you don't understand is if everyone has some kind of coverage and they get hurt or sick, and it will happen sooner or later, you can go to a doctor and get it fixed. but if you don't have any insurance and you don't have a lot of money then they wait till the very last minute and go to the er, where the cost is so much higher and the wait is so long. so now a problem that would have only been a few hundred dollars turns out to be in the tens of thousands cause they did not have coverage and they ended up in icu for a few days and then a reg room for a few more days, who will pay that bill? we all do, you, me and every one else who has insurance or pays cash for health care and why? because selfish people like a lot of people on the right don't think a person has a right to good health care. until they get hurt that is lol
and finally, if you are not rich or have a lot of influence or power, then why do most people on the right always always always vote against their own best self interest? and really repubs, do you really want a woman to have a vaginal probe before they have an abortion? if so, then i say men should get rodded before they can get viagra or anything else to help make them stiff. i always thought the right was the ones that always said "tell the gov to stay the hell out of our bedrooms and lives"
ohh one more thing, for all you crazies out there that say obama is a socialist, remember the family in Tennessee or somewhere in that area, whose home burned down and the local fire department just stood there and watched. or when you need the cops cause something bad is happening to you and they don't show up, or when the trash is backed up so bad on the street that the rats have grown to the size of a med size dog or the sewers have backed up cause there is not enough money to pay for the services, just remember YOU DIDNT WANT TO PAY FOR THE SERVICES THAT WE ALL TAKE FOR GRANTED. america is a socialist capitalist country. you can't have one without the other.

At first I thought this was going to be a ranting post, but you make many good sane points! The Republican right just wants to have the benefits of a civilized life (health care, libraries, decent education, police and fire protection, a pension) only available to the rich. They want to turn the clock back to the early 1900's. There are reasons that government services and regulations and progressive taxes came into being - they were needed!
The only reason we don't have today breadlines and families driving around the country with all their worldly goods piled on top a la Grapes of Wrath is because of government regulation and intervention and social programs which prevented a complete economic and social meltdown the past few years.
And the only reason we have a terrible deficit is that the Republican administration at the time of the 9/11 attacks refused to fund the increased security needs and costs with corresponding tax raises on the wealthiest citizens and residents. Talk about irresponsible governing!
Look at the people in Mississippi. They screan about "entitlements" and the same old blah blah blah, but the very fact they live in Mississippi makes them the very thing they are bitching the loudest about.
#1 poorest state in the US (all of the top 10 are red states)
Dead last in education (they rank "far below" average. Texas residents thank God for Mississippi! they are the only thing keeping Texas from hitting the very bottom.)
#1 in taking way more money from the Federal Govt than they pay in
2007-2009 Federal taxes paid, avg.: $11.06 billion
2007-2009 Federal funding received, avg.: $31.27 billion
#1 in the nation for teen pregnancy
And the lists go on and on. The other "solid" red states run right along the same lines as Mississippi. Only difference, some one has to be number 1 and that goes to MS. Newt knew all of this. He was counting on getting the ignoramus vote. Didn;t work out for him. now he's like a petulant child whining because he couldn't dominate the "idiot" vote. that prize goes to Santorum. Well done! Shoot high Newt, aim for the bottom, and still loose!
