Gingrich calls political system stupid, vows to stay in the race

PALATINE, Ill. – Hours after finishing a disappointing second place in both the Alabama and Mississippi primaries, Newt Gingrich marched his campaign onward, vowing he is “staying in the race.”

Campaigning in Illinois on Wednesday, Gingrich made little mention of the two contests he had hoped to win in the South. He instead focused his speeches on the big ideas that drive his campaign, explaining that many people just don’t understand what needs to be done to help change the country.

“The thing I find most disheartening about this campaign is the difficulty of talking about positive ideas on a large scale because the news media can’t cover it and candidly, my opponents can’t comprehend it,” Gingrich told the five hundred plus person crowd at the Northwest Suburban Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. “The result is you can’t have a serious conversation. It doesn’t fit. It doesn’t count. It is as though it doesn’t occur.”

Gingrich, who brought up Alzheimer’s research for the first time in weeks, admitted he wants to be “the candidate of science and technology.”

“We are at the edge of such extraordinary opportunities and it is so hard to get this party to understand it,” said Gingrich, speaking in a more frustrated tone than usual. “Our political system is so methodically and deliberately stupid.”

The calls for Gingrich to exit the race have only increased in the 24 hours since Tuesday’s primaries that Rick Santorum won. But Gingrich says he will not bow out, arguing he is the only Republican who can take on Washington and all the problems that come along with it.

“We cannot be a normal party. If we run a normal campaign trying to govern within the framework of the current system we have no future because people would rather have Democrats do it, they at least enjoy it,” he said. “We are miserable at trying to govern in their system. We are in the business of changing Washington, not being accepted by it. It is a fundamentally different model. It is the base of what Reagan did.”

“Our political system is so methodically and deliberately stupid.” Newt's the poster boy for arrogance and stupidity.

Anyone else noticing Newt's psychotic tendencies here?

Lack of empathy, Shallow affect, continuous lying, manipulative personality type, grandiosity, unrealistic long term goals, issues with moral judgement, tendency toward promiscuity- by themselves, not necessarily anything. But all together, it shows a possible psychopathic person.

It sure would make a lot of sense.

Would that we were able to harness the power of Mr. Gingrich's titanic ego. We could close every power plant in the country.

It is hard to follow Newt's positives when the highlight of his new programs would be a colony on the moon. But, this does give credence to Newt's thought that the campaign is stupid.

You're in the wrong party for that, pal. Only science book allowed in the GOP is the bible.

Are you sure you are not looking in a mirrow Gingrich?

Gingrich, don't blame the system. You can talk all you want about whatever issue you want to talk about. In the end the voters are choosing to vote for someone else. I guess your calling the American people stupid because they have chosen to vote for someone other than you.

"...deliberately stupid.” Guess he wouldn't have made that comment if he was out in front on this race. Why any of the three GOP stooges think they can represent all Americans and govern this country is a mystery.

He should blame his personal chef and aerobics trainer for utter failure to meet employment objectives.

How does one 'lose' one's way into securing the nomination? I am not quite sure what Newtie is thinking at this point.

Oh, I see! If the political system is stupid, you can justify anything! Brilliant! Yep, this is definitely a guy with big ideas to change Washington :)

Newt, if you can't get the dumb azz uneducated Southerner's in Mississippi and Alabama to vote for you all hope is lost!

I don't want to shake the Newtmeister up or hurt his feelings, but he is campaigning to be the nominee for the party of the deliberately and methodically stupid. His audience stares at him when he gives a speech the same way dogs would stare at a magician showing them magic tricks.

                    DB Akron

@ DB Akron who says "Palin has more education than the average US Citizen. She does have BS in Journalism hense her ability to reach people and have such a large following"

Large following, you have to be kidding. If she had such a large following why wasn't she part of the winning team in 2008 and why did she not throw her hat in the ring with the other GOP clowns for 2012? I can assure you having a degree does not guarantee ability, and her communication abilities are zero.

Newt should write Science Fiction. If he is for Science and Technology, I wonder where he stands on the age of the planet and evolution and all that other annoying science stuff.

This is probably the only thing Newt has ever said that I agree with. Our political system is stupid and corrupt with our voteing system getting more corrupt every day. Elections can now be bought with enough money. The electorial system is unfair and we even have Republicans trying to pass laws so that poor people cant vote against them. They are trying to swing the election by passing unjust laws prentending that it is necessary to stop voter fraud. People have little faith in goverment because of corruption millionaire politicans are working for themselves and their wealthy business interest,

The system is stupid when the GOP is able to put someone like Palin on the ticket. She would have been one heart attack away from the presidency. For god sake people, the gross irrresponsibilty, the insanity of that is frightening. It demonstrates their end game and it's not good for anyone but them. So all you republicans anything you say is trumped by that.

Of course the system is stupid - unless the GOP nominates nutty gingrich and then non-idotic americans vote for him as president.

Thanks to the next CNN, Fox News, we have Mitt and Rick as fresh meat for Obama’s re-election.

They can't energize the conservative base and Mickey Mouse debaters at best!

Oh, man! Now that's a laugh-out-loud headline. Newt doesn't get many laughs out of me...even if he is "cheerful" by his own description.

Gingrich didn't say any such thing when he was an elected official embezzling funds from his own party and campaign coffers.
