Subscribe to RSSBRANDON, Miss. -- Speaking before a congregation just outside the capital of Mississippi, Newt Gingrich shared his story of seeking God’s forgiveness Sunday
“There were things in my life that I have been very public about saying were, in fact, well short of the glory of God and I had to go to God to seek forgiveness,” Gingrich said to the several hundred people in attendance at First Baptist Church. “I never went to God to seek understanding. And I was never confused. That is, there are periods of my life where I have sinned.”
The former House Speaker, who had marital indiscretions in the 1990s, says he now has a strong relationship with his family, including his third wife, Callista, whom he married shortly after leaving Congress.
“I have been very, very fortunate that I have a very, very close relationship with Callista. We are very close to my two daughters who have been campaigning with us. We are extremely close to my two grandchildren who are 10 and 12,” Gingrich stated during some of his most in-depth remarks on his family life. “But I had to earn being a 68 year-old grandfather by living through things that I would never want my grandchildren to repeat.”
Gingrich is campaigning down in Alabama and Mississippi in the lead up to the two state’s primaries. He frequently visits churches on Sundays and today was no different. Gingrich attended three different services in the South while his wife was back in Washington, D.C. singing in the choir at the Basilica of the National Shrine.
Concluding his brief remarks at the church Brandon, Gingrich acknowledged he is not a “perfect” person.
“I come to you as a citizen who has sought redemption and has sought God's love and recognizes that you have to shelter under the cross to have any hope of living a full life and I'm very grateful of having the chance to be with you this evening,” he said.
The former speaker held a rally across town at City Hall following the church service.

Looks like Newty is pulling the God card again..
When winning is everthing you've got to highjack God.
Poor Newt, He became Catholic, (his third religion) when he wanted to marry Calista, (his third wife). Little did he know, that to achieve absolution, he would have to confess all his sins to a priest. If he has done this, he probably has around 2 million more Hail Marys to go on his penance.
It's nice that Gingrich's daughter forgave him for dumping their mother in the hospital while she was recovering from surgery. It's nice that they forgave Gingrich for not paying child support and allowing strangers to have to step in and help with bills.
And I hope that Callista is hording Gingrich's money behind his back because it's only a matter of time before he trades her in for a younger model (while they are still married).
If anyone one believes that this guy changed because he found God is naive...
Newt, god might have forgiven you but the majority of Americans have not.
We don't need you and your phony ethics in Washington, D.C.
Go home to wherever it is you call home and leave America alone.
For these republicans who have found so much religion. God saved them and now they are ready to go forth and take from the poor and give to the rich.
Go to the women and take from them their human rights and freedom to decide for herself all in the name of freedom. I don't know how much more of this republican brand of freedom our nation can stand and still call ourselves free.
Then they want to tell us in this country that was formed to get away from religious persecution that we now have religious persecution again in Virginia with forced unnecessary medical procedures to appease the new Christian Taliban. Women being persecuted and fined for wanting to access her constitution rights.
Republicans can sure forget the parts of the constitution they don't want to follow like church/state separation.

Asking God for forgiveness does not count if you continue to do the same things that you had to ask forgiveness for.
The idea is to ask for forgiveness, and stop doing sinning!

But Newt can make a contract with the lord listing just those particular sins he is asking forgiveness for, and skip the rest. Best to make the deal in writing, so neither side fudges later.
He can work on his upcoming sins in a ten year plan. You know, like all Obama's spending cuts. LOL
My recollection of remorse and forgiveness is that it is linked to penance and reparations. If Newter truly seeks forgiveness in the eyes of the Lord, how about donate the couple of million he sucked out of Fannie May to the homeless.
Time after time we have watched the parade of politicians, ministers and youth leaders plead their case that they strayed, found Jesus and are now healed. Only thing missing from the equation is the sack cloth and ashes part they don't want to mess with.
I don't think Newty gives a rat's rear end about forgiveness in the eyes of the Lord.
Every day is another opportunity for Newt to bamboozle some poor sucker into believing he's right with god.
The man is full of pious baloney.

But didn't the Lord teach that one should give according to his means, and take according to his needs. Newter would have to give up a bunch before his Tiffanys credit rating would be jeopardized.

Once Again . Newt is what a fool Thinks a smart man , sounds like . Ignorance can be fixed , its called Education . Stupidity and Lack of Morals , as an Adult however are fairly well set in stone . Sinning once and repenting , Being FORGIVEN is one thing . Fooking over 2 wives to get to the one you think is 1ST lady potential and then changing your brand of religion over , is kind of just that special something that makes Newt , Newt .
