JACKSON, MS -- After a long day of events and travel following Super Tuesday, Newt and Callista Gingrich took to the dance floor here in Mississippi, showing off their personal side on their first night in the state.
When the traveling national press entered the lobby of the Hilton Hotel after midnight Wednesday, no one expected who would be sitting in the bar -- the former House Speaker (sitting sans jacket and tie) and his wife Callista, along with members of their staff and scattered Secret Service agents.
They were all enjoying drinks and the cover band after another 18-hour day. It was a rare moment on the campaign as the Gingriches let loose with staff and a handful of members of the media to the tunes of the Beach Boys’ “California Girl,” Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean,” and yes, even T-Pain’s “Apple Bottom Jeans.”

NBC's Alex Moe
Newt and Callista Gingrich cut loose in Jackson, MS.
Gingrich joked that his wife, who is very musically inclined, has much better dance moves than he does.
When Elton John’s “Rocket Man” came on, the Gingriches moved in front of the band while the rest of the group looked on -- and the Speaker turned Callista around the dance floor.
“We had a long day, we did a lot of things,” Mr. Gingrich told one reporter at the hotel bar. “My first interview is at 6:30 in the morning….You’ve got to take a few minutes off.”

Is this a Presidential primary or Dancing with the Stars?
Great!
First we had Michele & Marcus wowing us with their 'moves', now we get Jabba the Hut & Jane Jetson cutting the rug!
Puhleese don't post the video!
PS: Sure hope the Secret Service doesn't collect overtime...
Ah, Feisty! I was all set to post "video please!" I want to see if Callista hair will actually move.
@Feisty,
Aw, give 'em a break. They were clandestinely auditioning fot DTWS just in case the Newtster doesn't get the nomination. Gotta keep the cash coming in for that account at Tiffany's somehow!
Last politician on DWTS for Tom Delay is memory serves me (since I don't actually watch the show).
Isn't he now Dancing from Behind Bars?
Watching the latest Welfare Queen "Bust a Move" with "I'm a Barbie Girl" to "Dancing Queen" and "Fly me to the Moon" must have been a "Mad World" moment. What happens to Callista's hair when she let's her hair down - I suspect it "Falls to Pieces".
And goes by the stage name "Demure Dove Bar Dropper", and is an expert at batting his eyelashes for added emphasis.
That explains the nearby University reporting seismic activity. Newt went on DWTS and they gave him an 8.8, on the Richter scale!
Well, to be fair, it wasn't all Newt - they achieved an 8.8 when Marcus jumped on stage to 'butt' into the action.
dumb fux, et al -- pathetic petty comments abound. your attacks on members of the loyal opposition for no reason are a big part of the problems our country is experiencing. is there any civility inside your body?
about the overtime, probably less than the cost when mr. and mrs. president had their date night awhile ago?
That's right Amy, to take it from the RWNJ playbook, if taxpayers are footing the bill, we deserve to see the video.
First read staff:
Any photos of the candidates on the Secret Service bus?
Would so love to see them.
When Newt exercises an ounce of civility, he may get an ounce of civility. Unlike Obama, who always exercises civility, but receives none in return from the vicious right wing attack dogs.
Oh yeah right james the loyal opposition has been very civil towards the president of the United States. Go tell Doctor Phil all about it or go preach to your own choir.
Why, was Tom DeLay there?
A comment from the previous MSNBC article was posted that I would like to have a computer person explain. It was posted as such:

This is about as civil as I can get. I hope the Gingrichs form a Conga line going straight to a space ship to land those pervs on moon.

forrest -- no need for insults. you could simply disagree with my opinion.
have a nice day.
sorry bev -- if you cannot get by without calling people names then you cannot get by.
let's imagine your kid (hypothetical) comes home from grade school today and says "man, i hope that perv little barry, gets put in a spaceship to the moon someday".
would you high-five him as someone who is clearly his mother's son?

Hey Bev - I'll even donate the maraca's! lol
Well, I'm not a computer person, but as usual your barking up the wrong tree!
Woof! Woof!
Nuke has been using helmet head a lot here lately. He had speak prior to his vile acceptance speech in Georgia. Probably, because he was sleepy.

Let's get one thing perfectly clear. None of my children would ever call the President of the United States a perv. Neither would they call the President of the United States "barry"!!!
Show some respect you idiot. Your example is so indicative of psycho, hypocritical, dumb FUX @ FOX NOISE. Get it?
Well, I'm not a computer person, but as usual your barking up the wrong tree!
Feisty, I meant no disrespect to you. I asked a simple question. But I do take a certain offense to your answer. What have I ever said that would have you say that I am barking up the wrong tree as usual?
"Show some respect you idiot."
I'm fresh out of respect for you, Bev. You have to earn it, you know. I have plenty of contempt for you, though, if you would like some.
Had to leave for awhile and just read some more of First Thoughts.
Forrest Grump, I have to say that your comment on First Thoughts about Viagra and boob jobs had me laughing so loud that it's a good thing windows are still closed. It was top notch humor because not only was it funny, it pointed out the absurdity of where the focus should be instead of where it is. Well said!
Rob in ma, seriously, it is not me who has my head stuck in the sand. The thing is you have to look at both sides of the coin not just the side you like to see. There are many times when the media has frustrated me because they focus on silly nonsense such as why President Obama wore a suit when he went to the Gulf after the BP oil spill, he doesn't show enough emotion, he should show more anger, he's too professorial, etc etc etc. To claim the media never reports negatives about President Obama ignores the weeks the media spends picking apart everything he does and says. It isn't the media that is the problem for republican candidates right now, it's the candidates who provide the information, it's the candidates who have said or done the things being reported.
james he is a TV personality I'm not sure if he really is a shrink, in any event I was not suggesting you are mentally ill, just overly sensitive, and somewhat hypocritical, in as much as I have never seen you call out the other side for the things they say about the President, democrats, or liberals. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings responding to your comment of my pathetic petty lack of civility, and that some jokes are exactly what is wrong with this country. I do in fact disagree with your opinion, and believe a holier than thou attitude is more akin to whats wrong with the loyal opposition and much of the country.
Dragging this from thread to thread like it's some kind of nefarious conspiracy, is not going to get you an answer.
As I'm not sure what the purpose was of Johnson's post & he/she doesn't want to elaborate, you might take it up with Newsvine.
Thanks Jody I'm glad you enjoyed it. Grandma is going to look mighty strange someday when she is all old and wrinkled, but still has a killer set of stripper boobs.

Only because I consider you the same as the stuff I wipe off the soles of my shoes; I'll bet.
FYI: People like you unfortunately are incapable of gaining respect. Check out the poles regarding tea bagger support. Then there is also a survey proving the people who watch FOX NOISE are dumb FUX.
Pity is all you people merit.
Whoever that dude is he is fairly new to the boards. Not sure how one gets collapsed but I flag it. Weird.
Well, I asked the question on the other thread and failed to get a response. I dragged it to this thread with the hope of finding an answer. I don't know about you, but when I want to find an answer I don't usually stop if I failed to get the answer the first time.
Conspiracy? Not from me. But the fact that you look upon my query as such seems to lend a certain amount of insight into your thought process.
Again, I want to extend my apology to you. I don't come here to cause any grief to anyone. I come here to read the viewpoints of others and to occasionally post some of my thoughts. That's all. You and others should be able to understand this and be accepting of others even when their opinions may differ drastically from yours. Isn't that the whole purpose of this site?
I hate to tell the right-wingers, but, going after one feisty red head in the comment section of a political blog does not constitute a winning campaign strategy. Try arguing why your Republican candidate would make a better President...oh, you can't.
nomoresameo,
Did you notice that the comment you copied had no link to anywhere. It is just a hoax.

I also want to thank Dennis for further info. As I said before, I just come here for some personal enlightenment when people offer it through their comments and through the articles written on First read. I really have no interest in earnings from the site, just enjoying the comments from some very concerned individuals about our nation.
Meanwhile,
Gas, at one station in LA is selling at over $6. February set the record for most deficit spending in our country's history, Gallop has unemployment at 9.1%. Sebilus has "no idea" how much Obamacare will crater our economy, and a major news network anchor has a meltdown on live tv because her favorite president ever shown to be leftist radical.

Rob,

Thanks to the spending bills passed by the Republican House last December. They spent $1.3 trillion more than projected income. Thanks John Boehner!!
I had no idea that the opportunity existed to earn money that could go to a favorite charity; thank you Dennis.

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2012/03/07/gas-prices-now-a-big-factor-in-presidential-election/
Wow 77%....
Take credit for the good times take blame for the bad times...
That percentage will drop as the voters are educated to the real reasons.
Gasomics 101: Drilling does not affect gas prices at the pump despite rhetoric.
Gas prices are not a function of how much oil is drilled in the US versus how much is drilled in the world. Oil prices are set on a global level.
Gas prices are the result of three factors: global price of a barrel of oil [which includes speculation], state and federal taxes, and gas supplies coming out of refineries (capacity / shut downs).
Production is up (9 year high) and demand is down (15 year low) so both should result in a price drop. The real problems come from the Middle East, refinery production (shut downs) and speculators.
Real reasons?
Production is up inspite of Obama -- when the voters are educated about that the number will go higher not lower.
And there are not too many republicans that propose increasing taxes on gas. Plenty of democrats though.
Higher taxes only because the demand is so low there isn't enough State or Federal money to do the needed road and bridge repairs.
Do you have another proposal on how we get the needed funds for repairs?
Do you have another proposal on how we get the needed funds for repairs?
Tell Sandra Fluke and flunky friends they're on their own, we need the money for roads and bridges.
How's that?
Not very bright ... insurances find it less costly to cover protection than birth and children.
Gag me with a shovel!
To steal one from the one kid on 'Stand By Me'- was there a "real barf-o-rama"??
"When the traveling national press entered the lobby of the Hilton Hotel after midnight Wednesday"
You mean the hardworking national press was drinking after midnight? Shocking...
First Read reporters had already gotten tomorrow's talking points from David Axelrod, so it was time to relax!
Bob -
Since you apparently missed my question to you about "the hardworking national press" over on First Thoughts, I'll give you another shot -
I have an honest question here - for as long as I've been posting here, all I've ever heard is that Fox News Channel has a bigger audience and better ratings than all the so-called liberal media stations put together and that Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk show hosts have more listeners in one day than Air America did in the whole six years it was on the air - which for all I know is actually true. So then how does the "liberal media" keep managing to control the message as you claim? I've never been able to figure this one out - can anyone else explain it?
Bob? Damage123? Rob in MA? Anyone???
joanne -- i am not a big fan of folks that cut and paste but i do feel this at least partially speaks to your question. It is a story from the 2009 Obama night out.
It is interesting, instructive, and a little disheartening to notice that the foreign press is much more shocked than the U.S. press is by the arrogance and expense of the Obama's "date night" that cost the taxpayers nearly one million dollars last week. The Australian and British press, for instance, scoffed at the absurd cost of the one night visit to New York that Obama "sacrificed" for but the U.S. press didn't seem to mind the waste of the taxpayers money nearly as much.
Let's start with the fawning U.S. press coverage. Us magazine, for instance, gave us the happy talk of "Obamas enjoy date night in NYC," in which we are told all about the happy patrons that got to dine in the same restaurant as the Obamas who were there just like reg'lar folks... except that all the other reg'lar folks had to be patted down like criminals by the Secret Service, of course -- not that Us really noticed that much.
The oh, so journalistically serious Chris Matthews also talked of the "date night" phenomenon. Did he scold the White House for the incredible waste of money? No, Matthews attacked the GOP for scoffing at the arrogant and wasteful spending. Now THERE is some serious journalism, eh? (Also covered by Geoff Dickens)
The Arts section of the L.A. Times scoffed at the "petty politics" of the complainers against Obama's arrogant use of priviledge. The New York Times gushed that the Obama's choice of restaurants "does, though, show taste." The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel called the waste of money "commendable." The Washington Post celebrated the fact that the president was a "foodie." Huffintgon Post gushed over the visit with a slideshow of AP photos.
I won't bother with the unhinged at the lefty blogs, but here was an interesting one: Indulging their inner environmental hypocrite, a website called thedailygreen.com, a site that claims to be interested in the environment, didn't seem to worry much about all the jet flights and global warming contributions that "date night" caused. Thedailygreen said that "nobody minds" the expense and was all excited about people meeting the "celebrity" president despite all the purported environmental destruction his visit caused.
Amusingly, the AP posted a story that sported a headline about how Republicans were slamming the Obamas' "date night," but it spent 10 of the 12 paragraphs talking about what the Obamas did and how they enjoyed themselves instead of discussing the GOP's complaints. Similarly, U.S. News was grumbling that the GOP had the nerve to grumble about the expense.
Of course, there were some voices raising concern about the over-the-top night out. Believe it or not, the Perky One, Katie Couric, advised the president that such an extravagant date was not the best idea in these hard times. On her blog, Couric said that the tough economy, "might be a good reason to keep that next date...a little closer to home. "
So, what did the foreign press make of the Obama's extravagant "date night"? They seemed a tad less celebratory over the whole affair.
A headline in The Australian (republishing a Times story) scoffs that "Taxpayers foot bill for Barack and Michelle Obama's cosy date." The Mirror in England was shocked over "Michelle Obama's $1m date in New York." The Telegraph talked of the criticism of the night out. The Times Online pointed out that Obama snubbed diplomats from the Czech Republic to take Michelle on his little date night. The Independent also had a nice jab at the Obamas for their presumption. And the Mail sniped at the president over the price tag, too. "How Obamas' romantic £120 trip to Broadway racked up a £45,000 bill," its headline pointedly remarked.
Even the Obama loving BBC noted in the second sentence that some were criticizing the Obamas for the "insensitive and wasteful" spending which puts the criticism much higher in the story than any of the American press where it usually appeared at the tail of the story if at all. AFP followed the BBC model by putting the Republican complaint in the top half of its story, unlike the U.S. media for the most part did.
So, it appears that foreign press was much harder on the Obamas extravagance than the U.S. press was in many cases. Sadly, it is telling that the U.S. press seemed to so easily let the Obamas slide for their arrogance.
JoAnne -
Could it be the people making those claims are several sheets to the right of FOX News? Is that even possible?

First lady Michelle Obama is being sued by the group, “Judicial Watch.” The conservative group is demanding access to all records related to an August 2010 vacation taken by Mrs. Obama and her daughters, Sasha and Malia. The group filed suit in the United States District Court to get access to all records on cost estimates and passenger manifests.

While I appreciate you're admitting that your post was a cut and paste, you should have given credit to the author. That's okay, though, I googled it and found:
Up to Date Bio of Warner Todd Huston:
Warner Todd Huston is a Chicago based freelance writer, has been writing opinion editorials and social criticism since early 2001 and is featured on many websites BigGovernmesuch as Andrew Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com, RightWingNews.com, CanadaFreePress.com, StoptheACLU.com, RedState.com, Human Events Magazine, AmericanDailyReview.com, among many, many others. Additionally, he has been a frequent guest on talk-radio and TV programs to discuss his opinion editorials.
So thanks all the same, but that's not exactly the unbiased information I was looking for. My question still stands.
P.S. RedDev and Bev - Thanks for the assist!
Sailcat - You got my point perfectly. If Fox is so almighty popular, why do people claim the liberal media bias? You can't have it both ways!
joanne -- so are you disputing extracts from the paper as being legitimate or just that the site is right leaning? my point was not left or right but i thought interesting from the international perspective where we had all been led to believe that the President is so well-loved.

JoAnne -
Could it be the people making those claims are several sheets to the right of FOX News? Is that even possible?
Thanks for admitting FOX NOISE is the KKK; Sailcat.
JoAnne,
PBS, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and ABC , and CNN are all very biased to the left, no question about it.
MSNBC is close to a pure propaganda outlet for Obama.
The vast majority of mainstream media reporters are liberals, who look down on conservatives as ignorant yahoos.
Fox News is the highest rated , precisely because viewers realize it isnt state run media...
You know what? I am going to be different here. Don't care if the hubby has a D or R after his name, or what his position in government is - eventually you come home and you have the job of husband to take care of. That means I (wife) want to be romanced (i.e. date night). You want some late night fun, I want some romance first!
As for the dancing, you know what, when you gotta dance, you gotta dance!
Time to dance my way to the washer to put clothes in the dryer.
New for Dumb Fux also has the least educated viewers!
This is something YOU want to brag about, Bob? lol
So, what's up with Barry today?? Planning his next golf game?? Sneaking a cigarette out the back door of our White House??
Contemplating what he's going to do to get out of working after this gig is up in November??
C'mon Barry, give us a clue.
I think everybody needs to dance a little. Nothing like shaking your booty to bring a smile to your face.
Since he isn't doing it in front of the national media, who cares. Newt has coverage because he decided to whoop it up with the media on his trail. Get the difference? Probably not .. from what we have seen this week, discernment is not a RWNJ strength.
Of course you deem them biased to the left .. they do not lead from the pulpit with the Iron Hand of God, threatening Armageddon, damnation, and death to Satanist libbies in every other statement.

James1937467: "my point was not left or right but i thought interesting from the international perspective where we had all been led to believe that the President is so well-loved."
And James, my point was that the article you cite as being "international perspective" is actually an opinion editorial written from the "perspective" of an acknowledged far-right-wing commentator who cherry-picked the articles he wanted to quote from. Hey, why not? Both sides do it every day. But for a real picture of the "international perspective" of the President, maybe we should try looking at the actual people in the huge crowds who come out to see him when he travels abroad. If anything, they seem to love him even more than we do. And by the way, you can only be "led to believe" if you choose to be led.
Bob in Va: "Fox News is the highest rated , precisely because viewers realize it isnt state run media..."
Thanks for responding, Bob - but that just brings me back to my original question - if Fox is so highly rated and its viewers are so cognizant, then why do they feel so threatened by the liberal media? I still find it something of a paradox.
phinephancy: "I think everybody needs to dance a little"
I'm with you on that one! But since I'm terminally single, can I borrow mr. phinephancy for a spin around the floor? :)
I find it appallling that two election cycles in a row have featured serious, though decidedly secondary candidates who, when faced with adversity, abandonded their most important relationships. These are not the type of people who should be leading the country of the world.
Why is Newt dancing with his wife even news??
Doesn't MSNBC keep abreast of whats happening today. The Keystone Pipeline vote in the Senate where Democrats are opposing Obama on this issue??
Where is the coverage?? Is this too embarrassing to the libbie media??
its news because he's usually caught doing the horizontal mambo with his NEXT wife...
Honestly, FR, with Newt's campaign teetering on the brink, you present this as political content? How about the Ayatollah Khamenei praising President Obama for seeing a 'window of opportunity' instead of more scorched earth?
For god's sake, who gives a rodent's behind? This is political news?
When the hubby takes me dancing, I consider it bigger than every day political news!:)
Newt must have had mixed feelings about Elton John's "Rocket Man". On the one hand, an homage to his planned moon base. On the other hand, sung by someone who is happily married to someone of the same sex.
Isn't his sister married to a woman, or is she still looking for Ms. Right?
i wonder if this 3rd marriage was with the intention of procreation... food for thought for conservatives.
my god would you people get off the left and the right crap, If only you people knew what's been going on for at least a century! ALL 'mainstream" candidates MUST be APPROVED by the CFR... BOTH SIDES!! The Rockefellers set this up for the Rothschilds (with other super wealthy) to ASSURE a ONE PARTY SYSTEM in the corporate U.S.A. If people do not wake up and act we are DOOMED...both parties are a fraud wake up!
What I find amusing is the Beverly doesn't realize Sailcat and her are on the same team.
I was thinking the same thing...LOL...
Damn. It happens.
LOL :)
I am not seeing any stories on MSNBC about high gas prices and Obama's strategy to keep them going up. Maybe they are waiting until it gets above $5 a gallon. The people think it is too high now.
MesaMax,
[Obama's strategy to keep them going up.]
Press Conference
Ed Henry: "Your critics will say on Capitol Hill that you want gas prices to go higher, because you havesaid before that will wean the American people off fossil fuels onto renewable fuels. How do you respond to that?"
President Obama: “Ed, just from a political perspective, do you think that the President of the United States going into re-election wants gas prices to go higher? Is there anybody here who thinks that makes a lot of sense? Here’s the bottom line with respect to gas prices. I want gas prices lower because they hurt families.”
Production is up (9 year high) and demand is down (15 year low) so both should result in a price drop. The real problems come from the Middle East, refinery production (shut downs) and speculators.
As a long-time believer in marital bliss, I commend the Gingriches for their impromptu evening. Why not? As for the Obama date--PUHLEEZ--get a life. Presidents and their families should not have to give up all their lives just to serve us. It costs a lot just to keep them safe and well worth it. The carpers should find some real problems--what about the budget in your own state -- cut a lot from education? Or did your state just pass a law that restricts access to the vote? Or did your state just pass another attack on women's health decisions? Priorities please.
But I swear, it is Gingrich that hates Welfare Queens. Isn't it he that went on a rampage to kill them, yet he has become one? You reap what you sow, so says Newt's bible. Real problems? Why are we paying the Newt for Secret Service coverage? So he can feel good and have a dance? That is a scandal!
What a relaxing election year. The GOP leaders don't like Newt,Romney,Santorium or Paul. It's like the white flag is waving from the republician side. Guess this election have already been decided.
President Obama-2012
