Despite winning just one state last night, Newt Gingrich is vowing to stay in the race.
"We are staying in this race, because I believe it is going to be impossible for a moderate to win the general election," Gingrich said.
He dismissed Rick Santorum as a "good team member," but one who can't change the game.
"With all respect to my friend from Pennsylvania, Sen. Santorum," Gingrich said, "there is a big difference between being a good team member and changing the game."
The comments are similar to what Gingrich said this morning on Bill Bennett's "Morning in America" radio show.
"If I thought he was a slam dunk to beat Romney and to beat Obama, I would really consider getting out," Gingrich said of Santorum on the show. "I don’t ... I think each of the three candidates has strengths and weaknesses and that this is a very healthy vetting process.”
Gingrich refused to set the bar of when he might drop out.
"If you asked Rick Santorum that question immediately after Nevada, what would we have said?" Gingrich retorted. "He had been running fourth for a month and -- including me -- people were saying maybe he should drop out. He ignored all those. He now has had a terrific month. I think you have to wait and see how the race goes on.”

Don't forget in his super sized melon he is thinking of $2.50 newts to donate to campaign so he can steal them.

Although campaigns often operate in the red, Gingrich’s debts are unusually high — he spent nearly $3 for every $2 he raised.

Sure, why shouldn't Gingrich "fight on". It's pretty obvious that Republicans have chosen "none of the above".
Obama / Biden 2012
You know, they say that dear, sweet, Callista, is the true power behind Newt. Maybe she still dreams to be the next Jackie? (Yes, I know, delusional for her to think that, but, hey, with all her hair spray - maybe the fumes have gotten to her)
It is about the money, He will stay in long enough to collect his Federal Matching Funds, He see's the polls and the Delegate path. The numbers are not there for him to get the nomination.
His wife presents him at all his rally's so they can sell her book.

lmfao this country is fuked when one of thoese religious bone head becomes president...
entire country is gonna have a witch hunt and everyone will be baptized on the spot
Gingrich and Santorum are splitting the vote in their part of the Republican voting process, that, is a good thing!
Obama and his Keynesian Economics, America living on Food Stamps, Welfare, never ending Unemployment, Government Entitlements that can not be paid for, a One Trillion Dollar plus per year Federal Debt and Deficit, Growing Government has to end, or America will collapse!
Romney will win the Republican nomination and win in November!
He has it completely wrong. It is impossible for an extremist to win the election. The Independents are overwhelmingly moderate (that why they are not members of either party) and they will decide the election.
This is all about his massive ego, otherwise he would have been out long ago. He has NO CHANCE of winning, at this point he's only splitting the conservative vote with Santorum and ensuring that Romney gets the win.
He's more of a man than Sanctimonium and much stronger candidate. He just ticks people off because he is combative. He fights hard to win and isn't afraid to call someone out on the carpet even if it hurts liberal feelings. Seems to be okay if it Obumbler calling people racists before he has the facts though.
BTW It looked like Romney slapped Obumblers face or kicked his puppy when he talked last night. Without the teleprompter his hotair couldn't flow so well. His comments about making rash judgments about rash troop movements were comical. He sat there and said GOP candidates shouldn't mouth off about troop movements, take lives for granted, said we didn't have Israel's back, he said he said he said. He loves to hear himself but forgets he babbled on about the very same things only a few short years ago and made matters even worse. Now he still talks of hope, that we'll forget, and qualifies everything with a it's hard - I did what I could - its the congress and house fighting me boohoo.
I can see how helping someone making their mortgage payment diligently is going to slow the tide of foreclosures when they can refinance for free. This plan really shows his true brilliance.
Notice how the only states Gingrich is doing well in are in the Old South? IMHO, it's because too many Southerners would never deign to vote for no D**n Yankee - and both Santorum and Romney are definitely Northern Yankee in residence, in dialect, and in attitudes.
But that isn't enough for Gingrich to win the nomination, as that region holds just a fraction of the delegates needed, and Gingrich hasn't done at all well outside of the Old South. Too bad, a Gingrich nomination would result in a November landslide victory for Obama.
"We are staying in this race, because I believe it is going to be impossible for a moderate to win the general election" - Newt Gingrich, employing the royal "we" in announcing why he'll continue to seek the Republican nomination.
Interesting statement, that! Right or wrong, the outcome will be the same:
If Newt's right, then Obama wins.
If Newt's wrong, and he gets the nomination, Obama still wins because the memory of their colossal error in electing "W" is still too fresh in the American psyche to permit a Gingrich presidency.
For once, I hope Newt's right about something!
What could possibly be more entertaining than "Newt/Sarah" vs Obama/Biden? I hear a herd of elephants running for the nearest exit.... Sister Sarah endorsed him and no one else really loves him....
This guy should understand that we don't want him. Look at the numbers he posts in the contests. The obvious choice is anybody but Gingrich.
There's another "obvious choice" too: "None of the above."
It's anybody but Romney, anybody but Santorum, and anybody but Paul.
Can't say I blame them. Republicans get on stage and talk about women like THEY are the ones who will make our choices for us. No thanks.
I was around when Newt created the contract with america. I was around when he balanced the federal budget for the FIRST time in a century. He ain't pretty like Mitt...he ain't black like Obama....he ain't naive like Paul...and he ain't from the rust belt. But he IS the most inteligent...the most creative...the most experienced...and the most direct man in the field. If you've EVER listened to his comments, you know he's brilliant. Why would ANYONE vote for anything less????
TO: sinned50 who wrote:
I was around too, and first of all the GOP can't stand Newt and the WON'T let Newt get in anywhere.
Second, Newt tends to exaggerate quite a bit and goes off the deep end if he's allowed to bloviate for any period of time.
All of us who were around at that time KNOW that Newt is trying to take credit for Democrat President Bill Clinton's work.
Obama / Biden 2012
American Girl-724855 Newt is an abrasive man. Make no mistake that the GOP likes him more than Obumbler.
As for exaggerating uhh you might want to look at teleprompter boy. Because I am pretty sure he shot his mouth off about having everyone home from Iraq 2.5 years ago.
Clinton did nothing. A pair of chimps could have sat behind that desk and been successful. Any financial expert can share that bit of wisdom with you. He signed Nafta and deregulated banks and that is the main reason for the global economic meltdown today. And it was Billie boy that said in a interview that if these two changes were bad it would have affected the entire global economy. I believe that was about 2 years ago.
If you were around in the nineties you would know that the balanced budget was not drafted until Gingrich was well out of office. In fact they had a semi coup on him because he was halting any progress to getting that done with his absolute refusal to raise taxes on the wealthy.
The republicans with Clinton got it done, but despite Gingrich, not with him.
It's all about the money. He'll be able to profit on speaking engagements and sales for years to come. Probably his credit line at Tiffany's will be increased now.
Newt may have started out running for President, but he is now running for Vice-President. His southern credentials and his clump of delegates that Romney may need to go over the top make him a serious Veep contender.
Now that would be a team !! I figure the only way Newt agrees to VP is if Romney agrees to finance his moon colony.
You have got to be serious. Lets support the only man in history who as speaker of the house was thrown out for lying and graft and this is the man anyone could consider a Veep contender?
I guess morals and decency only matter when you are a democrat because apparently those kind of things don't matter to republicans.
Obama/Biden 2012
Helen, the GOP are not going to allow Newt to run in the VP spot, they hate his guts.
Romney probably has some other multi-go-zillionaire behind the curtain that Romney will drag out IF Romeny gets the nomination.
Right now, it looks like a brokered convention because none of these losers can attract a majority of Republicans, let alone a majority of Americans.
Obama / Biden 2012
I guess my sarcasm was misunderstood. Newt is an embarassment and should be shown where the door is, cause we know he can't find it himself. I don't understand how he gets even one vote.
Helen yours I understood and thought was funny. I was responding to Fancy.
Even putting aside Newt's checkered past, can you imagine him being #2 to Romney? It would be worse (if possible) than Bush & Cheney. Plus Mitt would have to hire food tasters and extra Secret Service.
Americans - It's funny how Republicans can forget Newt's past, but can't forget a single thing that the President ever did or said.
IMO, Romney's VP pick will be either Rubio or Pawlenty.
MKM----Romney/Pawlenty---the excitement ticket!
MKM - it would be great if the Republicans could remember what the President says and does with truth instead of Fox spin and lies. They accept Newt's past because Mr. Murdock says its ok. Oh, Mr. Norquist says Newt is ok, too.
"I believe it is going to be impossible for a moderate to win the general election," Gingrich said."
Well, duhhh......it really is pretty impossible when you consider there are no moderate Republicans even running. Rick Santorum is a moderate? Ron Paul is a moderate? Mitt "I'm severely conservative" Romney is a moderate? Compared to who?
Sorry to break in, but this is more important than what Gingrich is up to -
Rep Chellie Pingree (D) will NOT run for Olympia Snowe's senate seat. This is huge. A couple of days ago, popular Independent former governor Angus King announced he is running for the senate. King polls well with Democrats and moderate Republicans, so he has a leg up over other names. Pingree was probably the most likely Democrat in Maine who could have beat him. We shall see what happens next!
http://bangordailynews.com/2012/03/07/politics/pingree-says-shes-out-of-senate-race-will-focus-on-1st-district-re-election-instead/
Run, Tom Allen! Run!
Amy -
You're right, that is pretty big. So what does this do to the race? From what I've read so far, if Pingree had gotten in, King being in too would have made it a three-way that could have helped the Republicans. But without Pingree, who would've been the Dem favorite, does King become the preferred anti-Republican, anti-LePage alternative, or would another Dem still get in and split the vote some more? Politico says King supported Bush in 2000 but Kerry in 2004 and Obama in 2008, which makes him sound like a real wild card if he actually did get into the Senate. Very interesting - keep us posted!
I just saw that Ames.
So, he'll caucus mostly with Dems? Or is he an issue by issue guy? I have no history/frame of reference. I read her comments on triangulation and agree with her; but it is too bad,...
Hi, Clara,
What did you mean on FT earlier today about someone referring to himself in the 3rd person? Did Romney do that? I was too busy earlier to respond. . . .
I am sad to hear this but not surprised. I think she made the right move. We need more women in the Senate, not less, but a third party in the Senate race makes this just too risky to chance the loss of her House seat and maybe not to win the Senate seat.
It has been a long time since King has been active in politics and I think he is overestimating his ability to bring concensus to the traffic jam that is Congress. Maine, 10 years ago, is a lot different than DC today.
The Republican Party is dead.. killed by their own hand. They just don't realize it yet.
TO: Bali Bob who wrote:
Without repeating again all the things Republicans did during the Bush "culture of corruption" Administration, this is probably the best thing that could happen to the country and the American People.
Certainly, after lying the American People into a trillion dollar war in Iraq so that Republicans could drill for oil in the 2nd largest oil rich country in the world, Republicans couldn't possibly have expected the American People to go for that same game twice. Right on for Republicans who see the light.
Obama / Biden 2012
Now they seem ready to nominate Santorum.
Somehow I don't think making women into second class citizens is a winning strategy. If a state can force me to not only have but pay for a medically unnecessary procedure for someones religious beliefs how can that be called freedom?
That is just the tip of the iceberg. Santorum would take all your rights in the name of his church and we are all to be grateful. Their argument is that if we aren't all willing to live under the Catholic Taliban religious laws we are somehow raging a war against religion.
American Girl, are you really as moronic as your absurd posts continuously portray you as, or are you just another failed liberal comic?
Larry - you do realize that it is because of people like you that your party is failing, don't you? Ignoring your party's recent past as if it never happened is thoughtless and untrustworthy. Ignoring it and trying to blame someone else gives the appearance of being either brainless or brainwashed - neither of which is repectable.
Can you even ask yourself how it came to be that the four incompetant freaks of nature are the best your party has to offer?
shockedanddisgusted.
I'm not a Republican so it's not "my party". I'm a libertarian independent
All of the final four Republicans while flawed candidates are still infinitely better than the marxist community organizer occupying the White House.
Hmm...libertarian independent. Is that what they're calling it now? Why is a libertarian independent using tired old Republican talking points? Can't you make up your own? Do I smell a little...um....TEA? I guess you are under orders to call President Obama a communist now.....yawn....don't tread on me...scratch scratch....
Neat little statement..."infinitely better"...Can you elaborate on that a little bit? Even just a little bit? My guess is that backing up silly Republican talking points is against the libertarian independent manifesto...
(do you realize that marxism is not in reference to that funny little guy named Groucho?)
Right Newt...it's all about YOU! I, I, I,I,I. Typical sociopath. The Inteeeelectual soul of the Republican Partaaay! It is not about what is right for the country. It is not that you don't have a PLAN. It is about YOU.
Gingrich is running on ego, not substance. He has as much of a chance as Bernie Madoff has of becoming Secretary of the Treasury. His only candidacy value is in assuring that Romney wins over Santorum. Once the nomination is decided, the winner will become the loser in November.
Just keep the circus going. I love it.
Me too .... Ramboet ....
The clown in the white house is pretty amusing ....
But could never never come close to the amusment of the inept childlike mentality clown who preceeded him for (8) years did and who nearly wrecked us as a country beyond repair.
Many older people (but not the majority) who's lives are basically over and try and fight on living in denial of their age.
Newt !...You're 68 Years old....you will never be President and you will never hold another political office on any kind ever again.
Get a grip and try an accept this fact and try and live out the rest of your life like most old people do...with some degree of humility and thankfullness for the life they have lived.
Casino money, once this dries out Newt will deflate.
That anybody is taking Gingrich's candidacy seriously just shows what a clown show this whole Republican nomination process is. He has come in dead last, or second to last, in just about every state outside the deep South that has so far held a contest. And what sort of national leadership would he offer in any event, if elected? In 1998, after 4 years as Speaker of the House, he was fined $300,000 for ethics violations, kicked out of his position as Speaker, and forced out of the House by members of his own party, which was then in the majority. That, I believe, is without precedent in American history. That he is nevertheless able to conduct a somewhat serious Republican nomination fight for President is just proof of how low the Republican Party has sunk.
PH,
Wow you're right. If those things were true about Gingrich he has no business running for President. ?Fortunately, it's all a liberal lie.
Last charge first. The first Speaker to be kicked out was Democrat Jim Wright in 1989 for ethics violations.
It's time to confront the lies of the left including the lying MSM. Newt Gingrich DID NOT RESIGN IN DISGRACE, and he WAS NEVER found guilty of ethics violations or graft.
Newt Gingrich is known as someone who has long admired Winston Churchill and his political style. When the Republicans nearly lost the House in the 1998 elections, Gingrich was considered the fall guy and like Churchill, he respected the role of leadership to step down when you suffered political defeat. It is a practice that is common in Parliamentary governments, but not in the US.
Gingrich stuns Washington by stepping aside
Since you are so informed, perhaps you would like to tell us exactly what role Rep. Jim McDermmot played in the "stepping down" of Newt.
Perhaps, since you have taken on the Herculean task of defending Newt, you can cut and paste something regarding who paid for Callista's birth control when she was concubine #1. Isn't she a good Catholic?
shocked,
technically, wasn't she concubine #2?
I was thinking more in terms of rank as opposed to order. It's just so hard to keep track of them, isn't it...
Why should he? Afterall he isn't useing his money!
Mit will ask his old friend and same as, Warren Jeffs to be VP
Nope. To begin with, Warren Jeffs is the head of a different church than the one Romney belongs to. Secondly, Warren Jeffs is in jail, which tends to crimp political ambitions.
But most importantly, Romney will want to "balance" the ticket with someone who isn't Mormon and has some Conservative bona-fides but won't overshadow him, someone like Pawlenty or Huckabee. If Romney wanted a fellow Mormon on the ticket, he'd choose Huntsman.
As a Catholic I wonder how Newt was accepted into the Church with 3 marriages. Please explain religious right. Sheep mere Sheep, kill the shepherd and the flock will die!
I know too many republicans that will vote for any candidate that wins the GOP nomination, regardless of what they personally stand for, simply to vote against President Obama. I used to proud that friends and family would vote for the best man for the job and not some party hack. Times have changed.
So far, President Obama has done an outstanding job as President by anyone's measurement of the facts. I just do not know how any of the current slate of republicans can run on the same ole lies and deception related to social and moral values, religion and war. Americans are smarter than that.
America wants a moderate. America wants freedom to choose their own set of moral and living standards. America wants freedom to worship. Americans do not want the government dictating their sexual habits, medical choices etc.....
America doesn't want a moderate. A moderate is one of two kinds of persons
1. A liberal who is ashamed to admit it
2. Someone who lacks strong convictions and beliefs
If you want freedom to worship, or the govt dictating and controlling our lives, then a moderate or liberal will be the worst choice since they are the ones who have been taking away our freedoms for the last 100 years.
Larry..."A liberal who is ashamed to admit it"....Really??? This coming from a self proclaimed "libertarian independent" who is defending a Republican candidate?? Given the pathetic nature of your party's potential nominees, I can understand why you are ashamed. Defending Newt must be, I hope, a new low for you.
@phinephancy: Saw your post making fun of Newts wife, why don't you post a pic so we can see what a old hag looks like!!!
it doesn't cost Newt a dime to run around like chicken little screaming "The Sky's Falling"! Plus, who knows, he might find wife # 4??
It's sad to see so much of America with blinders. Obama a good President? I think not. He takes us down as we speak. Newt did get the budget balanced as Speaker and has the best plan as president. This is more than I can say for Obama. Quit listening to the media who are pro left. When there is anything good about a candidate they don't tell it. I gladly voted for Newt and would do so again.
NEWT 2012
OK, Patty - since you seem to sincerely support Newt, maybe you can answer the question I keep asking. I am sure, as a loyal Newt supporter, you will know the answer because, judging from your post, you thoroughly research the candidates you choose to support.
When Callista was Newt's mistress, who paid for her birth control? Wasn't she on Newt's staff? Did the insurance offered her by Newt offer birth control coverage or did she have to pay for it out of her own pocket? As good Catholics, I would be very, VERY interested in knowing how Callista was protected and how they justified paying for and using birth control while allowing Callista to stay true to her very passionate religious convictions.
Perhaps we can find a solution to the controversy now by seeing how Newt and Callista justified it then.
MittRomney is on his knees praying every day that both Newt and Rick stay in and divide up the conservative vote. That is Mitt's only chance to win the nomination.
He has it completely wrong. It is impossible for an extremist to win the election. The Independents are overwhelmingly moderate (that why they are not members of either party) and they will decide the election.
A conservitive cant win? Great! Get all those loser gops out of congress, and all public office! Then this country might stand a chance to recover at an amazingly faster pace! No thanks to the repugs, this economy is comming along nicely! Dont let any of these clueless idgits into any office, they will only take your money and run! And yes, you can listen to M.S.N.B.C. at all times and be well informed, by unbiased reporters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never ever listen to a conservitive, they are only talking to you so they can be close enough to pick your pocket!!!
only listen to those who think like you and you will never learn anything. But if that makes you happy stay uninformed. I'll try to keep an open mind sometimes the left is correct sometimes the right is.
Go Away - you olde NAZI FOOL!
