Santorum camp asking conservatives to pressure Gingrich to drop out

STEUBENVILLE, OH -- Rick Santorum's campaign is calling on conservatives to pressure Newt Gingrich to abandon his bid for the White House, a senior adviser told reporters tonight.

Senior campaign strategist John Brabender said the key for the campaign going forward will be creating an opportunity to challenge Mitt Romney one-on-one, though Brabender maintained the Santorum campaign would not directly call on Gingrich to drop out of the race.

See pictures from around America as 11 states hold contests that will award a combined 424 delegates in the Republican primary.

"We're never going to call on anybody to get out, but what we are calling is on Tea Party supporters and conservatives is to rally behind the only candidate that has demonstrated over and over again that he's the one who can compete against Mitt Romney," Brabender said.

"The real key right now is, can we get an opportunity to get a one-on-one shot with Mitt Romney," he said. "What we found is, Gingrich did a nice job in his home state, but I don't even think he had a second place anywhere else ... It's time for conservatives to say 'Look, we're going to rally behind one candidate, Rick Santorum."

Speaking to reporters in the high school gym where Santorum spoke just moments earlier, Brabender declared that no matter what the final result in Ohio, it already has been a bad night for Mitt Romney's campaign.

"All I know is after spending nearly $10 million here in Ohio, right now its neck and neck and it's going to be close to a tie, and somebody will win, but not by much.  I don't know how they declare that anything but a disappointment," he said.

HERE IS THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION

Split the country in half... Draw a line down the middle... Democrats live on one side of the country, Republicans live on the other. Run it like you want to, do you want, do not ever ask the other side for any help, ever!

Not even 10 years later, Dems country would be in shambles, and way too expensive to even live. China would purchase it from them.

yawn, thanks for the ultimate stupidity. I love seeing this silly "split the country in half" nonsense.

here's a clue for you, the republican's would all be dead from the wars they'd start. lol. (yes I can make up nonsense just like you can).

really? i figure you would come back and say something like you did, typical of a liberal. Your problem with that is, you guys would have no one to fund your little failures. Liberals need Republicans to live off of and sponge off of anything liberals can get. If it weren't for us, you wouldn't have any food on your table. You would not have a job, or money, or any thing for that matter.

What do you do for a living? Where do you live?

We have a complete separation. Democrats live in the real world of the cities. Republijerks live in the fantasy of dirt roads. Pubs like to sing silly songs like a country boy can survive...... Yeah for 3 days. Then your right wing hard butt self is going to have to do business with the cities..... and you had better be polite. We are not impressed with the little stash of ammo that you have. We will be just like the old west. NO GUNS ALLOWED IN TOWN!

clue for the clueless: repeating your worthless opinions about dems doesn't make them facts :)

Tampa, you got that wrong.. In the south, its the redneck, country boys who are the liberals. It is the city folk who are the Reps. You can have my gun when you come and get it. I will let you have it...

Vermontgay, i told you where the proof was... first the Bible, second, open most science books, lets start with middle school science books, that might make it easier for you to comprehend. Looks up how they age the earth, and then look up how the rocks are aged. There is your first start. Now, I cant do everything for you.. you need to go and learn some things on your own. I am sure you were taught how to read, and maybe a little reasoning... no wait.. you have no reasoning skills

        #27.6 - Wed Mar 7, 2012 2:18 AM EST

davis: the bible is "proof" about science? lol, that's funny.. the bible is a book of faith, not science.

and I already commented on your science "knowledge". the earth is aged in many ways, not the way you suggest. You are obviously clueless about science. for example: "The age of the Earth is 4.54 billion years (4.54 × 109 years ± 1%).[1][2][3] This age is based on evidence from radiometric age dating of meteorite material and is consistent with the ages of the oldest-known terrestrial and lunar samples."

again with the "vermontGAY"? lol, do you want to wave a flag that says how immature you are? I guess so. :)

          #27.7 - Wed Mar 7, 2012 2:21 AM EST

          LOL LOL LOL

The Bible has more science in it than any school book ever written!

LOL! that is your proof of how the earth has aged??? seriously? this is what you brought to the table?? Radiometric age dating? seriously? proved inaccurate many times, scientist still insist to use it since they do not believe in the Bible and cant stand the truth. What does meteorite material have to do with the earth's age or even the earth at all? What does terrestrial and lunar samples have to do with the earth's age? and how can any one MAN say that it does? how did man CREATE a way to measure that? Notice, man had to "create" a measurement. See how this sounds stupid?

That sounds just as stupid as believing in a "big bang theory"

The age of the earth is just over 6,000 years old, not 4.54 billion years.

            #27.8 - Wed Mar 7, 2012 2:29 AM EST

lol lol lol. (see I can do that too).

proof that "the bible has more science in it than any other school book"? lol, of course you have none.

and I just provided that as ONE EXAMPLE of how things are dated. YOU claimed that scientists used "dating by the layer of earth". I was just proving you wrong by referencing OTHER ways that you "conveniently" forgot . :)

the only thing that sounds stupid here is your insistence that the bible is science. It isn't. lol.

at least you tired of the "vermontGAY" thing..maybe I can upgrade your maturity to, oh, 14? :)

scientist have many false and fake ways to "try" to prove they know more than the Bible. They can never beat it.

Oh yes, I can prove that the BIBLE is the most intelligent book and the most scientific book ever written. Have you ever read it?? Seriously you are missing out. Look around, there are Bibles everywhere. Pick it up and read Genesis. Tell me there is no science in the first book of the Bible. I would love to sit down with you and show if you would let me. If you wont, I can find someone in your town that would show you some stuff that would blow your mind. Email me.

There is no stupidity in the Bible. It is so full of science and history. It is a book of faith only for those who believe in it. The "Faith" is knowing and believing.

as far as the vermontgay, i just misread your name and thought that was what you had as your name. As far as age, we can talk about that anytime.

Daveisreal, you know that would never work. Because the left depends on those they hate (Republicans / The Moral Majority) to work and provide for the lazy / non-productive. How would the left support their base without the "Right"? I don't think we should split the Country. We should give all those that think Europe & Socialism / Obamaism is great, a free ticket to wherever they want to move...Outside of this Country. I hope they take their Kenyon leader with them.

There is no stupidity in the bible

If a man cheateth on his wife or vice versa both the man and woman must die Leviticus 20:10

If a man has sex with a woman during her period, they are both to be cast out from their people Leviticus 20:18

People who have flat noses or are blind or lame can not come to the altar of god Leviticus 21:17-18

If two men are fighting and a woman comes to rescue her hsuband and seizes his genitals, you are to cut off her hand Deuteronomy 25:11

And thats not including things like stoning to death for touching the skin of a pig on sunday (hello football), selling your daughter into slavery, stoning someone who wears garments of different woven fabrics and stoning someone to death who plants different crops side by side. The bible is full of stupid things. And no, I am not letting you off with the 'This is the Old testemant and the New Testament invalidates every law the old testament has' type of cherry picking. You stated the bible. Well... these laws are in the bible.

THE USA suits me perfect. We are a Christian nation, we always have been and always will be. You don't like it? you can find somewhere else. Don't try changing one of the founding principles of this country. Christians do not go around thumping people with Bibles. We do not police people into God. Believing in God is a personal choice not one forced by government. Our government believes in God. You don't have to. No Christian that I know of is as dramatic as you make them out to be.

You don't want to chose God, that is entirely up to you. No pressure at all. Live life like you want. But don't try to take away my right to believe.

No one is trying to take away anyone's right to believe in whatever they want to believe. Saying so is a lie...and I think that is covered some where in the bible-myth...hmmm...something about "bearing false witness..." I think it's one of those ten "big ones"...I'm really not sure which of the many versions of the bible-myth Davey is reading, but I'm sure it's covered in there somewhere....proving that those who thump that bible the hardest are the first to wipe their bums with it. So, you'll understand, Davey, when I ask you to please step away from the Constitution.

We tried seperating the country politically a few decades back, davey, and your side got their fannies handed to them on a platter (perhaps the Civil War is not covered in your version of the bible-myth). Why would someone that preaches their love for their country want to seperate it in two???

Dave, as an independent who leans mostly to the liberal side of the issues I respect your opinion and your right to voice. I haven't been a member of the US Army for 20 years to stifle the right to free speech of my fellow American citizens. Just because I lean to the liberal side of most issues it doesn't mean I do not love my country. I love this country so much that I'd die for it if I were asked to.

I would like to point out a few inconsistencies in your post. You state all these reasons why you love this country, and I agree, they are great reasons to do so. BUT I would remiss if I didn't point out the flaws in your statement.

We love to be able to worship God when and how and where we want to.

Would you offer this same right to worship God however and whenever you like to say I don't know a Muslim or animal sacrifice as a way to worship THEIR God? Or is it only YOUR God who gets to the freedom to be worshiped however His followers believe?

We love having the ability to do whatever we want whenever we want without having to ask permission for it first.

I agree with this to an extent. I believe your right to do whatever you want whenever you want ceases when it can cause harm to others, but I do not think you are implying this. In an earlier post you railed against homosexuals and how they shouldn't be able to, I guess "flaunt" their homosexuality in public. Well, as American citizens are they not afforded the same rights as you are? Should they not be able to hold hands, hug, or kiss in public just like heterosexual couples? After all you LOVE this country because you have the ability to do whatever you want whenever you want and you do NOT have to ask for permission. Does this same rule apply to ALL citizens, or just your specially chosen citizens who fall into step with your beliefs?

We love having the rights to make choices for ourselves, not our neighbors.

I like this one too. It's great to be able to make your own choice and to not have someone else decide for you. So, shouldn't homosexuals fall into this also? Shouldn't they be able to make a choice as to who they want to love and marry? As long as they are consenting adults shouldn't their neighbors stay out of their business also? Or what about women who have an unplanned pregnancy? As citizens shouldn't they be able to choose for themselves what they want to do with their bodies? Why should their neighbors tell them they MUST have a baby they are not prepared for or that is the result of a rape? Or, again, is this right to make your own choice without the nosy neighbors butting in only a right afforded to certain citizens of this great nation?

Please give examples of all the liberals who are trying to take away your rights. As you can tell from my post, I'm fairly liberal, and I have no desire to take yours or any other American citizen's rights away. I don't care if you keep your guns. If I take yours away then mine would have to go with it, and I love the firing range too much. I don't want your right to worship your God as you see fit. If I take that right from you then my right to not worship a God might be infringed on. If I take away your freedom of speech then where does mine go? It goes right out the door with yours. Are their liberals who believe in the seperation of Church and State? Of course there are. Does this mean they don't want you to worship your God? No, but what it does mean is that they recognize that the governments of this country represent citizens of ALL religions. We can't just single out one religion and make allowances for it without including everyone else. It sucks for the religious folks, but it is fair to all who worship a God in their own way. Are their liberals who want better gun control? Sure there are. Does this mean they want to take your guns away? No, it means they don't want guns falling into the hands of just anyone. Is it too much to ask that gun owners be required to take a safety course for the gun they are purchasing? As a long time member of the military I firmly believe this is a good idea. I've seen what can happen when you put a gun into the hands of someone who has no idea how to use it. Is it wrong to ask for a background check for gun purchases? Do you want a felon or someone who has been cited for domestic violence to have the right to purchase a gun? As someone who was a victim of domestic violence I am quite happy knowing that the jerk who tried to kill me with his bare hands can't purchase a gun.

I am not typing this to you as a way to change your opinion, but I am typing this to help you see that we all want the same thing. Liberals and Republicans all want our country to be strong again. They just have different ways of going about it. I am a registered independent because I believe both parties have fallen so far into the abyss that we have a serious up hill battle awaiting us. Both parties are losing sight of what's important. You talk about love for this great country and all the rights it affords you, but you have to see those same rights are afforded to everyone, homosexuals, women, Muslims.. all who are proud to call themselves Americans. So you really can't say in one breath that homosexuals must stay behind closed doors because it offends you, and then spout about the freedoms to do whatever you want because you are a citizen.

One day I hope all this liberal vs conservative crap stops and we can just be Americans standing up for Americans. I don't have to agree with you to stand by you as an American citizen.

BTW to stay on topic PLEASE give us a brokered convention....That way the USA can see just how corrupt our election process really is. It is interesting that small business calls Romney a business man. Those of us who worke in a corporation know him differently. He is a corporate raider, using borrowed cash to devastate corporations. When he steals the pension account, refuses to buy parts and material, the corporation collapses. Then he sells the remains, with the pension cash in his pocket.

He is nothing special, just a criminal who has done nothing illegal. They are every where. He has never worked a day in his life. Romney has lived his whole life off of Other Peoples Money.

So..... Nominate him, vote for him, elect him. In four years our GNP will be 30% below what it is now. Simply because Romney is not serious about tax law and environmental law to bring our manufacturing jobs back into this country.

He wants to go back to the good old days with 90 million with no health care. Pubs are simply too corrupt to recognize and admit that the health insurance companies in this country are going to have to find a new line of work.

Take health care out of the equation. All US Citizens SHALL have access to Medicare. No more health care at work. No medical liability on car insurance. No Medical liability on homeowners insurance. That's how the rest of the Countries do it. It is not socialist. It takes the 30% profit away from the insurance companies.

Do ya think that there might be enough savings there to pay for it? Ya think?????

Whenever God's will is mentioned by anybody running for office, I automatically think they are crazy until God tells me to vote for them. Then I would believe it.

A lot of posts here are taking the Liberal Media's word. The Republican party has many different people that have many different views. It is perfectly natural to see support being split up amongst the hopefuls. The media is trying to spin this as "Anyone but Romney". The truth is that it could be said, "Anybody but Santorum", "Anybody but Gingrich", "Anybody but Paul", etc. In the end it will be "Anybody but Obama". Romney has been consistent even with the "Far Right" trying to derail him. He is the only one that has a chance of beating Obama. You have to ask yourself, "Is the need to replace Obama more important than the fact that I don't completely agree with any one candidate or my prejudice toward Romney's religion?" The Obama camp does not want to face Romney. Santorum seems to be a nice guy but it would be easy for the Liberal Media to crucify him, if he ran against Obama.

Santorum would make a good ambassador or cabinet member for Romney.

Gingrich would make a great debate coach for Romney.

Paul would make a good advisor about the Constitution for Romney.

Palin would be a perfect choice for Hillary’s current job! That would completely drive the Liberal Media and the Democrats crazy.

Rubio would be a good Vice President.

Romney would make the best President and has the greatest chance to beat Obama. Don’t let the Media deceive, mislead or divide you from people of faith and conviction that is slightly different from yours.

Obama is the most incompetent and impotent President in our history. If you want what is best for this Country, you’ll vote for anyone that opposes him.

Just one opinion from someone that Loves this Country and our Constitution.

The circus is still looking for more performers. Bible thumpers should stay out of politics as in "separation of Church and State" and preach their will at their choice of churches, not on the campaign trail.

I have been looking for Ron Paul and Newt G. to withdraw from the race to see what happens when Mitt R. and Rick S. go one on one. A lot of the races would put Rick S. in the winner position if Newts conservative votes mostly went to Santorum. I am not supportive of the Republican Party because their agenda has primarily been to eliminate President Obama rather than govern the Country in an intelligent manner. I know that Santorum would be my choice from the Republican party. I am curious what the primaries would show in a 2 man race. One other thing all the ignorant name calling and foolishness of any candidate in any race is terrible. I guess in the United States RESPECT is the one thing Americans lack the most. Maybe that's the difference between being an Independent than a Party supporter!!!!!!

They are all over the place, and the moderate ones are snuffed out by the extremists. I have Democratic and Republican leanings, and consider myself moderate (if not independent)

This crop of candidates are an embarrassment.

You're shooting yourselves in the foot, with the war on women and, injecting religion into government. Spouting how you want government out of our lives yet have no problem enacting laws placing the government in your bedrooms and doctor's offices. GET A GRIP!

Get off your frikkin high horses and sit with the regular folks who want a president who can get things done. Nobody is qualified, and we're better off with the guy we have then any of these candidates the "Republicans have not even really wanted to put forth, but there they are."

Santorum? You might as well go home, if he's the nominee, he stands no chance. If he has any balls, he'd go to Gingrich himself and ask him to step off. It's obvious those shrunk back up into himself due to his religious extremism.

He's not a supporter of any Constitution I know, and it's pretty fair to say a bigot. He is the anti-American in my opinion, and you really need to think about the consequences when you punch the hole out next to his name.

He has zero experience. ZERO. He's driven by zealotry and delusions of grandeur. We Pennsylvanians threw him out for a very good reason. He was only interested in what he could gain from his position and not at all concerned about his constituency.

                                                              Ayatollah Santorum, indeed.

I think this is a mistake on Santorum's part. I expect that the typical Gingrich voter prefers a certain 'moral ambiguity' in their candidate. Something Santorum certainly doesn't project. No, I expect if Newt drops out, his supporters are going to flock to the next best thing: Romney.
