SPOKANE, WA -- Rick Santorum urged Washington caucus goers to support his campaign against "the good ol' boys," a reference to the Republican establishment that the presidential hopeful argued is afraid to nominate a conservative to take on President Obama.
"The best chance for us to win is to not to go along with the good o'l boys who always want to nominate a moderate. The best chance for us to win is to create clear, sharp contrasts," Santorum said at a rally in front of more than 400 people. "Give America a choice."
While Santorum frequently calls himself the only true conservative vying for the Republican presidential nomination, in Washington on Thursday he placed a newfound emphasis on his battle against his the money and organization of his GOP rivals. His stop here came just hours after the Michigan Republican Party voted to strip Santorum a delegate in the Wolverine State primary. Instead of tying Romney in delegates, the Santorum campaign found itself at a 16 to 14 disadvantage.
"I just think that you really see what the Romney campaign's all about. Anything to win, after the fact, break the rules, rewrite the rules," Santorum told NBC News after the rally. "That’s not the way Republicans and conservatives do it. But, he's new to the conservative cause, so I'm not surprised he doesn't know that."
A win in the Michigan primary would have been a major setback to the former Massachusetts governor's path to the nomination. Despite losing the popular vote, the Santorum campaign on Wednesday could still claim they split the delegate count in Romney's home state.
They lost that argument today.
"This is an insurgent campaign. We are running, we are getting outspent everywhere, 5, 6, 7 to 1. All the big money guys, spending huge amounts of money. And any time you punch back, oh, they get all upset, said Santorum. "'Oh, he's unfair, he called eligible voters and asked them to vote in Michigan.' Wow, as he's out there telling lie, after lie after lie in Super Pac doing things, I went out and actually asked eligible voters to vote and thats unfair. Folks, this is the establishment, they don’t like getting into the fight, they just like having the money advantage and having their way."
Washington will hold its caucus on Saturday, and the Santorum campaign sees it as an opportunity to grab headlines and show moment ahead of the 11 states going to the polls in the all-important Super Tuesday contests on March 6.
“You folks have an opportunity to reset this race on Saturday before Super Tuesday,” he said. “You folks have an opportunity to reset this race on Saturday before Super Tuesday."

Obviously, you didn't pick the OWS encampment in Spokane to have your rally like you did in Tacoma did you?
Yes it's time to reset the elections, you need to go home, the democrats that crossed over to vote for you were voting for the easier candidate to beat in November!
Don't You GET IT? GROW UP!
Did not the GOOD OL BOYS just get together in Texas to pick Santorum.
How much fun is it to watch the "Conservative Movement" break down into its component parts as they all fight for supremacy? There never WAS a true "Conservative Movement", all joined by common philosophy and principles. It was always a coalition of small government Conservatives, big business Conservatives, gold standard Birchers, religious Conservatives, law enforcement/pro-military (authoritarian) Conservatives, and racist/xenophobes.
What's new here is not that these various factions have differing goals that are often contradictory. What's new here is that the period during which Republicans controlled all three branches of government made it clear that there will be winners and losers within the Conservative world even when they run the whole shebang.
John, for as much division there is among conservatives, there's an equal amount in the liberal world as well. Not all liberals support such environmental concerns as the radical left. The same can be said about those who are for animal rights, women's rights, abortion, social justice and other varying ideological stances the left takes. Don't you think there are battles within the democrat political realm where those with power want to usurp those without? Skirmishes occur in the democrat party every day. They aren't published as much because the liberal media would never bring attention to those battles because it could do harm to the cause of the left.
The way you make it sound, is the republicans are the only ones that have issues. That is far from the truth. Every time the democrats are involved in elections, particularly the primaries, the amount of infighting is identical to what we are witnessing this year. The democrats are off the hook because they have already chosen their candidate and there is no challenge... take the spotlight off the democrats and place it on the republicans, it becomes the only show in town.
Here is a thought for you all with santorum in Washington state. It would be real cool if he would do a interview with Dan Savage from The Stranger, a Seattle paper. But we know that won't happen. After all it was Savage who gave him his google problem. Savage would tear him up. I'll bet you righties are sweating. We know you don't like mitt the ripper. The rest of your candidates leave allot to be desired. This is easy to see because if santorum is your second choice you don't have much.
I'm looking forward to Super Tuesday. I getting the popcorn ready now so I won't run out. Its going to be fun.
Well Smitty - as long as you have popcorn, all is right with the world. Almost. This is anything but fun. As you liberals keep on reminding us conservatives, the republican candidates all have serious flaws. The amount of daily bashing from the left is a constant deluge of negativity that is unprecedented. It seems the left lives in the negative, and has found a stationary home in their lust for spreading as much of it around as possible. Mind you, this is nothing new. Ever since 2000 the liberals have produced and developed a whole new genre of one sided hatred that you are not only accepting of, but relish it.
Here's the rub. For as much as you are convinced that Obama will win in 2012, there are still many of us out here that aren't so convinced. Liberals band together and form klatches where they bolster each other and convince each other they are invincible. Enter conservatives... we are here to remind you that your group is but a small part of society. For as much as you feel you are so enabled with your hate filled rhetoric, the percentage of your ideology in our society is small. The only reason you feel so heightened is because you live in this small little world where you build each other up with like minded ideas. You have no idea that there's a whole outside world that does not even think like you do. You are banking on your close knit friends to carry the weight for the entire nation. Sorry, but the numbers do not support your quest.
Obama's negatives are way too high, no matter who the republican candidate is. No amount of trashing the republicans will erase the amount of damage Obama has done to himself over the past 3 years. There's one big difference between 2008 and 2012... we now know who Obama is and what he stands for.
Pot and kettle Yes, we do know what he stands for. He stands for a lot of things that Republicans wanted to have before a black democrat proposed them. You have a ton of gaul spewing about hate after the garbage you folks have tossed around about this president. Your credibility is zero Brian, give Koch his check back.
brian I find your analysis of issues interesting. You make it sound like you know it all. LOL I can take everything and turn it and spin it like you. Just like liberals, you righties form the same klatches to do the same. If you say thats not true your lying. You talk of hate. Read your buds posts like the ones from damage, joe in albany and even your own. Also the percentage of your ideology in this society is a small portion. This world is not full of righties like you. I also know the outside world doesn't agree with your rhetoric. Do you think the country agrees with you? If you do your pissing down your leg.
Your candidates negatives are way to high also. Even if another candidate gets in. The world has heard the republican leader of the Senate say we are going to make this a one term President. That statement was so bold it said many things like we as republicans we don't care to what happens to the country for 4 years so we can get rid of this President. Keep on hitting on the woman's issues they alone they will beat you. I can go on but we heard it all before we all know the issues. So much for what's best for the country. So brian Obama's biggest problem is the republicans are not working with him. Don't tell me that he didn't unify the parties you can't unify people if they don't want to unify even if its for the benefit for country. We will see what happens in November. Till than.
Obama Biden 2012!!!!
Egilman - I suspect the protesters in Tacoma are the only way Santorum can keep up his "us against them" modus operandi he trying to work. Everyone else is leaving the room.
New Romney/Gingrich attack ad for southern states: "Rick Santorum hates Dukes of Hazzard"
Never disturb the right-wing mindset. Never ask them to think. Do not expect them to ask, what makes a good ol' boy.
Santorum has been a good ol' boy for most of his adult life: Sixteen years as an elected official in D.C. When he was crushed in his last election, he cashed in on his connections with Washington, D.C. good ol' boys.
Santorum and Gingrich - sanctimonious liars, Washington insiders, and influence peddlers, and they shamelessly insist they are good Catholics.
Never disturb the right-wing mindset.
Sanctimonious liars? And Obama is as pure as the wind driven snow... eh?
there are no good old boy's just bad actors
