As GOP race continues, voter confidence in Obama improves

Amid better economic news, a declining unemployment rate, and an ongoing -- and combative -- Republican primary campaign, voter confidence in President Obama now stands at a nearly one-year high.

This comes after he reached his all-time low in September.

His score in the msnbc.com Voter Confidence Index is now -21, continuing a five-month trend of an improving VCI.

Besides immediately following Osama bin Laden’s death, the last time Obama’s score was this high was in January 2011.

In September, Obama’s VCI hit -63, a low for his presidency. In October, it jumped nine points to -54, then -53 in November, -45 in December, -30 in January, and -21 in February.

The closer the VCI gets to zero or positive territory, the better historically for presidents up for reelection.

Obama’s current VCI is still 10 points off from George W. Bush’s score of -11 in October 2004, a month before he was narrowly reelected. But it’s far better than the VCIs for Jimmy Carter in 1980 and George H.W. Bush in 1992. Both lost reelection.

Other presidents up for reelection:

1980 - Jimmy Carter -76
1984 - Ronald Reagan +62
1992 - George H.W. Bush -84
1996 - Bill Clinton +18

The VCI is calculated by looking at three numbers in polling – the president’s job approval, the direction of the country, and voters’ preference for which party should control Congress, the so-called congressional  ballot. For more on the VCI, including detailed historical data, a month-by-month look at President Obama’s VCI, and details on how it’s calculated, click here.

OH Dear!

Between this news & the multiple polls out this week showing President Obama leading both front-runner in the GNOP it is sure to set some follicles on fire! ;o)

President Obama now stands at a nearly one-year high.

Excuse me while I take a Dramamine, sit back & watch the RWNJ's attempts to spin this...

Even if Chris Christy runs as VP on the Romney ticket a recent poll shows that our President would win New Jersey by 49-43.

Feisty--My favorite part of this VCI trend is that the Republicans are doing the heavy lifting for the President. Wait til he gets out there in campaign mode. Then we'll really see some movement.

I think Christie will hold out to run for President in 2016. I can't see him wanting to be VP in 2012--it might decrease his chances of winning the Presidency in the following cycle. I could be wrong, but I think he wouldn't want to settle for VP--all or nothing!

Dennis, dont you have to judge Christie in the same manner as this poll or how Backhouse did it in todays other recommended column? Dont you need to compare where it was so if the budget shortfall was twice as much before Christie took office, then you posture it as a positive? So just like Obama's VCI index was negative 50 and now negative 21, you should judge Christie through that same lens.

A lot of people, myself included, would lose a lot of respect for Christy if he ran for VP with Romney.

I respected the man when he said he wasn't ready to be president. If he doubles back and takes the number 2 spot a heartbeat away from being the president I have to consider everything that he has said a lie.

Wonder why we haven't heard how Obama is going to deal with this:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mortgage giant Fannie Mae said Wednesday that it lost money in the fourth quarter and is asking the federal government for nearly $4.6 billion in aid to cover its deficit.

Taxpayers have spent more than $150 billion to prop up Fannie and Freddie, the most expensive bailout of the 2008 financial crisis. The government estimates that figure could top $259 billion to support the companies through 2014 after subtracting dividend payments.

Dennis, I would have to understand what his fixed entitlement growth spending in his budget. My guess if its like Illinois is that the growth in the union contracted entitlement benefits is much higher than the rate of tax revenue growth. Sort of like the federal budget. So if entitlement spending for health care is growing 15% and union pension accruals along with the growth in state union employees is growing probably around 8-9% and all the discretionary items that state legislators love to budget is growing at 5%, sort of hard to have revenue growth higher than gdp growth in an already high tax jurisdiction where your higher income earners are leaving the state or investing in ways that avoid having to pay income tax. So far Christie has been a blessing to this country too bad he isnt running for president.

As it pertains to the rethugli-cant's: they can fool themselves and their diehard supporters all of the time, but the majority of Americans none of the time. Either one will be beaten this fall, but Romney will be able to flip flop in order to appeal to the voters on a national scale, but Santorum will stick to his religious fanaticism and be beaten by a greater margin. Although I admire his apparent honesty in sticking with policies that are obviously losers, he'll pay a heavy price.

It appears that Chris Christie was advised to wait for the next train - so he would not get TEA all over himself.

The 2012 election cycle is more about purging the lunatic fringe from the GOP than about winning back the White House. The establishment Reagan Republicans understand that the electorate is not the lunatic fringe (left or right) - the electorate is center right on fiscal issues and center left on social issues. Obama is positioning himself to be fiscally center right (believe it or not) and socially center left. Most elections - including this one - are fought in the center.

The Republican candidates have almost eliminated the GOP chances at winning back the White House. That is apparent by the improving numbers for Obama. At some point the establishment Republicans will switch emphasis to Congressional races - where the real political battle is going to be fought.

The presidential election is Obama's to lose - he is running unopposed.

I hope then, we can have debate, instead of holding the nation hostage, to get their way (get rid of McConnel, Cantor, Ryan etc)

I hope then, that we are not talking about birth control and DOMA.

I hope then, we are not talking about attacking more countries because well, you know, America is Exceptional.

All driven by their unadulterated hatred for Mr. Obama from Day 1, their strategy to obstruct and reject everything he did regardless of cost to Americans and Country. They sold their own right-wing Christian souls and even trounced on their Biblical teachings of love for others (even thy enemies)...and in front of the world have shown themselves to be hateful Hypocrites.

Yet, I would not say Mr. Obama is "unopposed" because hatred can be a formidable enemy. However, I do firmly believe love conquers hate in the end.

Ido - as usual, your data interpretation skills are abysmal.

Here's a primer from Nate Silver on reading Rasmussen's polls:

Before Citing a Poll, Read the Fine Print

It would help, of course, if the polling organizations were more upfront about disclosing their methodology rather than burying the information in the fine print. Ipsos is not the only offender here. The company Rasmussen Reports, for instance, recently adopted a hybrid approach in which it uses an online panel to supplement results from its automated telephone polling, but I rarely see this mentioned when Rasmussen Reports polls are cited.

WHEN will Republicans say that the American People are "the single most important thing"? Never, because Republicans are obsessed with making themselves rich, so they ONLY cater to the wealthy.

Just like Romney said, he's not worried about the poor, and Bush Sr. said "there will always be the poor" unless it comes to stealing our social security money and denying us quality health care.

Dennis

NJ looks at the candidate's party, not the candidate. Our two senators each work primarily for foreign lands, not NJ nor the USA. One works exclusively for the State of Israel and the other one supports all Latin-American lands.

Moreover, the old one was elected illegally, directly counter to NJ law. If you recall, when Robert Torricelli was exposed as being so crooked as to not be a sure thing in the senatorial election, the Democrats un-retired Frank Launtenberg and put him on the ballot quite illegally. Of course, he won. He would have beat Lincoln.

NJ likes taxes, myriads of tiny political units (townships, boroughs, cities), rampant government unions, teacher incapable of any intellectual challenges to the kids (since most of them are dumb guys who took the job to avoid national service) and nepotism even worse than that of the movie industry.

Jan Brewer replaced democrat Janet Napolitano in Jan 2009

Chris Christie replaced democrat Jon Corzine in Jan 2010

Paul LePage replaced democrat Jon Balacci in Jan 2011

Democrat Pat Quinn replaced democrat Rod Blabojevich in 2009

Of the top 5 only Nevada had a republican replaced by a republican. Also note none of the republicans had any more time than President Obama to try to straighten out their individual states mess.

Who made the mess and who is cleaning it up?

TO: Mr. 29 who wrote:

"...Obama wasn't stupid when they decided to let the full weight of Obamacare hit after this election. It is being challenged as illegal by more than half the country..."

Why is it that when Republicans make up tall tales, they make up numbers too?

The ONLY people who are challenging "Obamacare" are rednecks and racists. Not even the Rich have spoken out against Obamacare and they are the ones who may ultimately end up paying for the biggest part of Obamacare.

Just about every single working person in America is FOR quality health care for all Americans, which is why Obamacare passed in the first place.

I find it interesting that Santorum sees the college thing as a "snob" thing. Even if it was true that Obama said that he wants everyone to go to college (which is a total fabrication by Santorum - good Christian, huh?) why is it such a bad thing? He's got college degrees (bunch of them actually) so why is college a liberal thing all of a sudden?...oh, yes, I forgot. Santorum feels that only the selected elite should WANT to go to college. The rest of us "losers" should not even dream about it.

Talk about killing another American Dream by Santorum.

AG,

I get your point, but I think that what many "republicans" are against with regards to Obama care or any other perceived form of "welfare" is just that. For example, my Mother is retired and volunteers at the local hospital. When I was at her home the other day she recanted a story about a young girl who came into the hospital that had just had a baby. The young girl wanted to know where she went to sign so that she didn't have to pay for the baby or the care she received. This made my Mother mad as a hornet. My Dad had cancer and died in that same hospital and she had to pay for it. We are not in the 1%. I am fairly sure that my Mother is neither a redneck nor a racist, merely a woman that had to work for what she has.

Annual budget deficits (or balanced annual budgets) and debt are two completely different animals. Also, I quite aware that presidents don't have balance budgets, in fact that's the job of Congress. The President isn't that powerful, by design.

Either they got a tingly feeling up their leg or the truth reporting passed with Tim Russert.

As for Obama, he will pass as well, the Democrats are looking for anything to show a ray of sunlight into the cloudy dreary days of 2012. Thanks for the great foreign policy stand point Obama, really appreciate the gas prices going up and the fudged numbers on unemployment...who really wants to count the unemployed that stopped looking for jobs...unless they are Union...I guess they do not matter.

EdwardWI

The Republicans claim that they are the only fiscally responsible ones but yet they are not able (or have ever been able) to prove it.

While the unemployment rate under Romney did fall (from 5.6 to 4.7) in Mass, it was largely due to contraction of the labor force and the only state that saw a sharper drop in its labor force during Romney’s term was Louisiana, the state that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Massachusetts lagged behind the country in virtually every economic measure under Romney’s term but after Romney left, the Mass economy has rebounded much faster from the next recession it faced (under a Democrat), creating jobs at nearly twice the national rate and ranking in the top 10 nationally.

Romney campaign does not challenge this statistic but explains that he took office in the midst of a recession -which is true. But since he could not do it for Massachusetts, how is he going to be able to do it for the country??????

So again Edward, the Republicans claim they can do it better, yet they cannot do it on the state level which is way easier than fixing fifty of them.

Real - "It was the GOP that insisted that the health care bill not take effect until 2014."

You mean the ones that didn't vote for it? and didn't have the white house, the senate or the house? But they had enough power to push everything off until 2014? Are you really that clueless? It was pushed out to 2014 so it looked like it was paid for, you know 10 years of paying for 6 years of PBO care.

If you are going to defend your guy/team, at least TRY to look intelligent or at least not stupid doing it.

Oh go ahead and rip on Bush, Rick,Mit or Newt and all you will get from me is nodding my head up and down because they are no better than PBO.

So it is your opinion that States do NOT consider debt in their budgets?

The New Jersey Constitutional provision regarding debt is shorter, but its purpose is clear. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/lawsconstitution/constitution.asp">Article VIII, Section II, Subsection (2), states in part:

No general appropriation law or any other law appropriating money for any State purpose shall be enacted if the appropriation contained therein, together with all prior appropriations made for the same fiscal period, shall exceed the total amount of revenue on hand and anticipated which will be available to meet such appropriations during such fiscal period, as certified by the Governor.

It is enlightening to read the posts. What exactly has Obama done that you all approve of so much?

The most curious thing about the posts on the Vine is how many of you left wingers comment on how angry and hateful the republicans are. But when I read through the posts, the vast majority of the negative, angry and hateful comments are coming from the left.

Alas, I am not surprised, just like Obama, the left wing Vine posters believes that if they say something long enough and repeat it enough, the masses will believe it. Unfortunately for the USA, that does seem to be working.

One thing that intrigues me is, if Obama gets re-elected and the economy fails to improve and unployment remains high, will all of you continue to blame Bush?

The important statistic is the favorable going up for the president. The rest doesn’t mean much because there are so many new variables in this election. Most notably the unsatisfactory GOP/TP candidates, who aren’t likely to improve by the VP selection, including Chris Christie.

As pointed out above, Christie isn’t ready for prime time. He’s trying to lose weight—he says it’s because he is now in his fifties and needs to think about his family. So maybe he is preparing for 2016. But he may not fare well even as governor because New Jersey is going bankrupt (per Post #1.7). And once again, such an obnoxious man is not presidential material, let alone the health concerns.

Keep in mind that the GOP has a seniority system of paying dues and helping the current candidate, and then becoming the VP, then running as POTUS, then losing, then repeating. (The Dems don’t recycle.) Based on the Republican system, Christie would do well to run as VP, but also as pointed out above, it would make him look like a flip-flopper.

In follow-on to the post by Paris – I agree. I have never heard so much crap in my life than Santorum’s speech, with Romney just repeating what Santorum said because Romney has no core or original thought of his own.

David-3994413 – You need to stop listening to Michael Savage. If you don’t have the self discipline to turn him off, take the Hate Radio out of your vehicle. That goes for the rest of the right-wing riff raff in here posting BS about gas prices, the Affordable Care Act, Fast and Furious (Dubya's Operation Wide Receiver), and did I miss Solyndra? You all think the president is behind the hybrid seed conspiracy too, don't ya you ignoramuses.

The Democratsterone is quite high here on MSN.

        1. Just remember, when the economy was tumbling in 2008 President Obama was pushing his failed Obamacare. ( I wish it did not fail, But it will be found unconstitutional.)

        2. When the Gulf Oil crisis occurred, President Obama was no where to be found, No one knew who was in charge of the crisis. He finally put BP in charge of the crisis (a foreign company).

        3. In our deepest part of recession. The President Obama's wife took her closet 40 friends on Air force One to Spain (on tax payer dollar) for a vacation.

        4. When President Obama had a filibuster proof Senate and the house under his control for over one year, nothing passed. Pelosi and the Democrats blamed Republicans for stoping the President Obama agenda from happening. How this possible? The Democrats controlled both houses and had a Filibuster proof Senate. What stop President Obama were the Democrats themselves.

Jeffersonwasright -- I have not seen you post before, at least not by this moniker. But if you read the Vine all the time, I'll take you at your word (wink, wink). Because the many achievements during Obama have been listed many times in this forum--aside from bin Laden--in relation to the 300+ heavy lift legislation passed just during Pelosi's first term. This in comparison to Boehner and his Do Nothing Teapublican Obstructionists (during the three weeks out of four weeks worked) they passed only 30 bills or so naming buildings and other nonsense.

The anger from the Left began with the unnecessary invasion of Iraq, and went from there with warrant-less wiretaps, to outing a CIA operative, to the Dept. of Justice playing politics, to a long list of scandals in the Republican Party. Fast forward to the present week with statements by Santorum about no Separation of Church and State, attacking JFK's speech, and education.

It's the other way around, with progressives wondering why conservatives hate the president so much--other than his race, of course, but what has President Obama done that's anywhere as egregious as the crap Republicans have done (some mentioned above)? None! You right-wingers have nothing to criticize the president about except with all the lies you make up.

I'll answer your simple-minded question. As long as we continue to be hampered by Republican/Bush-era voodoo economic policies such as tax cuts for the rich, corporate welfare subsidies, deregulation, attacks against middle class workers and programs, I will continue to blame a slow recovery on Bush. 'K'?!

chester12 -- WTF does the comparison to Carter have to do with points made in my post? A comparison was also made to Bush Sr. and Dubya. My point is variables are different now. For example, Dubya was reelected because we were mid-way into the Iraq war, and many felt he should be given more time to make better of the situation, plus Kerry was not a strong candidate for the Dems. President Obama is doing better than Carter or Bush Sr., AND he also is not up against a strong opponent, which improves his chances in comparison to them, get it?

Polls against polls...But, there is one thing to consider about the "approval" ratings for President Obama. I would bet that there are voters out there who may not "approve" wholeheartedly with the job the President has done (and I do approve) but, will still vote for him out of the knowledge that he is steady and calm even in the face of more provocation than anyone else in the arena, ever. He is a grown-up and although I imagine that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul can make the case that they are also grown-ups, it may be too little, too late. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich can't make the case at all. Hoping that gas hits 6.00/gallon, unemployment edges back up to 9.5%, Iran goes nutso or the Dow takes a huge dive is just not mature or responsible and is terribly selfish.

One thing that intrigues me is, if Obama gets re-elected and the economy fails to improve and unployment remains high, will all of you continue to blame Bush?

Well, if Romney or Santorum or Paul gets elected in November, then implements big tax cuts just like Bush Jr. did, and gets the same type of soaring deficits and faltering economy and rising unemployment like Bush Jr. did, will you continue to blame Obama?

YET OBAMA CUT RESEARCH INTO HYDROGEN AS A FUEL, ITS USE, DEVELOPMENT, STORAGE AND USE IN VEHICLES BY 90% IN THIS YEAR'S BUDGET! WHY? IS OBAMA IN THE POCKETS OF THE COAL AND OIL INDUSTRY?

You're a few years late, that happened in 2009. The reason is that his Energy Secretary and science adviser Chu realized that hydrogen wasn't a very good automotive fuel - it's expensive, difficult to store, and inefficient compared to electricity. Also, plug-in cars were already coming onto the market and are more affordable than hydrogen fuel cell cars. The per-mile fuel cost for a hydrogen fuel cell car is slightly higher than for equivalent gasoline cars, and the fuel cost for hydrogen internal combustion engine cars is more than twice that of gasoline, but the per-mile "fuel" cost of driving electric is about 1/3rd the cost of gasoline. (BTW, Chu has a Nobel prize in physics, he understands things like efficiency and the physical properties of hydrogen)

So Obama and Chu decided to focus most of the funds available on the much more promising battery technology, and it's paying off. There are already several plug-in car models available, and every major auto maker will have at least one plug-in car model (battery electric or plug-in hybrid) for sale within 3 years. But there is still some funding on the back burner for hydrogen research, in the unlikely event that an unexpected breakthrough makes hydrogen both affordable and practical.

The oil industry LOVES hydrogen, as they already make large quantities of hydrogen for their refineries, they have the cheapest source of hydrogen (steam reforming of natural gas), and they want to sell that profitable new fuel when the oil runs low. Companies like Shell and Exxon have major hydrogen promotion efforts, Shell has even installed hydrogen dispensers at a few stations in the LA area. Coal companies also like hydrogen, as they have the 2nd cheapest source (steam reforming of coal) and would like to get into that market, too. While hydrogen can be produced by electrolysis of water, the combination of electrolysis, storage, and fuel cells uses 3 times more energy than batteries would to supply the same amount of electrical energy - that makes it too expensive to be competitive.

Besides, one would think that conservatives would applaud any reduction in Government spending. Apparently, reduced spending only counts if a Republican does it.

Ahh, I see the right-wingers are up in arms to defend their pathetic candidates???

To all those who claim that Obama is a no good socialist who doesn't are about the Constitution; tell me exactly what he did that represents something that is proven to be unconstitutional BESIDES the Patriot Act and NDAA (he wrote a statement showing his disapproval of some of the things in the NDAA). And Obamacare has yet to be determined. In addition, how is Obamacare socialist??? Didn't the GOP support an individual mandate about 20 years ago when they were living in reality??? And since when is socialism 100% bad??? I mean, socialism isn't very economical, but like sugar, can be good in small doses. Everyone who thinks Obama ought to be ashamed of themselves, mainly because they don't even know what socialism is nor what it and are still stuck in the Red Scare days.

Well the liberal main stream media is doing what it does best: showing "polls" how great their guy is doing that they essentially elected. Note the no whining aspect of gas prices, food prices, and energy prices that Americans are all now suffering from, a large portion of which is due to the deficit reducing the value of the dollar (all the aformentioned of which the liberal media said we'd be in soup lines under Bush over...and the Democrats that controlled Congress with a Supermajority during his last two years in office).

Yes, Obama can be re-elected. If that's what America wants, so be it. This nation deserves who it elects. That's what we are founded upon. Good luck Class of 2012, and 2013, and 2014, and 2015, and 2016...

Oh and by the way, the election/re-election year is still young. Anything can happen between now and November...like a war in the Middle East and gas shooting up to $10/gallon. Good luck libs, you own it. For now.

Obama has to answer for his own failures as well as his accomplishments. Most for good reason blame him for the gas prices. Many blame him for the Israel-Iran crisis. Most know more are out of work or under-employed than the government is saying, and lying about rather than remedying that situation hurts him. Many are scared about his re-direction of vital defense money to his bread-and-circuses patent attempts to buy votes with patronage. Many are now aware of all the dreadful non-health secrets and actually the health secrets too buried in Obamacare and want this scam to go away. So even as an incumbent, he has worries. He has a balancing act, too. Many see his endless money-raising sojourns and campaign appearances as him abandoning responsibilities to take care of his own selfish ambitions while the people suffer.

The overall rankings put Abe Lincoln first, followed by FDR, and George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt.

When Romney finally gets the Republican Nomination, he's going to pick another richer-than-hell person to run with him, that way he'll have somebody who can talk-the-rich-man-talk with him, and help Romney do the most damage he can possibly do by having a partner who thinks exactly the way he does.

Romney needs anybody and everybody to try to get him into the Oval Office, but I doubt VERY seriously if Romney allows Chris Christy to actually hang out with him. Nope, not unless Chris Christy is a honorary member of the Billionaires Boys Club, which he ain't.

Right above Carter wouldn't be so bad, since Carter generally is ranked above Bush. In a 2010 Siena College poll of 238 presidential historians, Bush the Lesser was ranked at 40 while Carter was ranked at 36. And before whining about pointy-headed librul professors bias, consider that the same poll ranked George H. W. Bush at #22 even though he was only a one-term president. And Republicans T.R. Roosevelt was ranked 2 and Abe Lincoln was ranked at #3. Obama was ranked at #15.

                Fun study on that.

Incompetent people cannot spot their own incompetence, nor the incompetence in others. It's basically asking a car-mechanic to solve quantum mathematical equations. They don't have the knowledge or expertise to make that judgement.

Roughly says 'People are too stupid for democracy to flourish over long periods of time. And the stupid ones don't know they're stupid. They don't have the competency level to judge their own intellect. so any attempts to draw attention to the fact are, basically, in vain."

Its the conservative governments in Europe who implemented "Austerity Measures", which were exactly what the GOP proposed, that sent their countries into nose dives economically. Also, your boy Christie also took similar measures and rank 41 in the states index on economic health just on above Mississippi. (LMAO) Yet you are critical of Obama? What's happened thus far is great considering the fact it took Japan, who had a massive financial recession like ours, ten years before they started to recover.

Rob in ma? The price of gasoline has NOTHING to do with the President! The price of gasoline is the direct result of de-regulation of the Commodities markets. This is the glaring example of an unfettered "Free Market" that conservatives claim to hold in such high esteem. $5.25 per gallon gas is going to make a few investors unbelieveably wealthy while the rest of us struggle to fill our tanks. It wouldn't matter who occupies the White House. The price of gas is not something our Congress or the President has any control over as the laws are written today.

Guess you didn't read the article...the closer to 0 the better. Anyhow, anyone in their right mind is not surprised by this. Obama is reasonable, intelligent and always willing to listen to alternatives to his party. What he is not willing to do is sacrifice the middle class and working poor so the rich can keep their "benies" which were given to them over the last 8 years under Bush.

Obama is not perfect. He is however the only adult in this country. Look at the republican candidates? Listen to their speeches. There was not a grain of truth to Romney's talk. This president has deported more people, permitted more drilling and CREATED more jobs in three years than the republican party did over 8 years. And he did it by not throwing the majority of middle class people under the bus.

Obama Trumps Romney With Small Donors - ABC News

In the scramble for campaign cash, President Obama has proved once again that he’s king, at least among American small-dollar donors.

Nearly half — 48 percent — of Obama’s $118 million haul in 2011 came from individuals giving $200 or less, according to a new analysis by the Campaign Finance Institute, a nonpartisan group.

Small-donors made up only 9 percent of the 2011 fundraising total for Mitt Romney.

But it’s on the other end of the donor spectrum that Romney holds more sway: He gathered 82 percent of his funds from donors giving $1,000 or more, the Campaign Finance Institute found. Those high-dollar donors comprise just 28 percent of Obama’s total.

It's really interesting how when the gas prices rose in 2008 all the democrats and the MSM was going after Bush and blaming Bush because there was a "oil man" in the White House. Now the democrats say "Oh, it's not the President's fault", he has nothing to do with gas prices. If President Bush was responsible for gas prices in 2008 then President Obama has to be blamed for the rise in prices now. You democrats and liberal media can't have it both ways.

Actually if you adjust for inflation, gas would have been selling for over $3 a gallon in today's dollars back in 1918 and that was when supply far exceeded demand. The price has been kept low in the U.S. by subsidies. Just look at what gas prices in Europe and places are without subsidies.

And, one can only imagine how much more of our tax dollars and tax breaks would have to go to big oil for Newt to be blowing smoke by promising gas at $2.50 a gallon.

We've all been spoiled by having gasoline cheaper than the real free market price. It should already be at least $5 a gallon and that's without scares, speculation, or futures pricing, just based on worldwide demand and the supply chain.

We need to transition to getting off the oil and gas train and moving towards true energy independence. It's a tough first few steps, but the longer we wait the worse it gets.

Are we supposed to forget how Republicans have done everything in their power to sabotage and stall our recovery?

Republicans haven't worked for the American People in nearly 4 years now, and Republicans have NOT done one single thing to help the American People survive the mess Republicans made in the 1st place.

Just the other day, Santorum said the American People have not suffered enough for the sake of capitalism. Imagine that, after all the things the American People have lost during this Republican-made devastation, still they still don't think we've suffered enough! Well, I think we've suffered too much.

What he is not willing to do is sacrifice the middle class and working poor so the rich can keep their "benies" which were given to them over the last 8 years under Bush.

So now tell me about all those so called programs that was offered, where hardly anyone met the ridiculous rules? Where are the jobs everyone contends to be floating around. I'm not talking about the union jobs either, government jobs, or, part-time jobs? How about the jobs that most Americans can't find and have just fell out off the roles of unemployment, as this tends to improve the unemployment #'s. How many jobs that were lost to the middle-class and the working class people that seems to never find it's way back.

Wages right around what most would consider slave wages, so just tell me if you would what happened to those promises again. Not saying the conservatives would have done any better, just saying that it seems to me that none of them really care. Hmmmm let me see who made out the best in these bailouts= Seems the unions and the car manufacturers did pretty good. Oh yeah not too forget about those evil and mean ole banks that have recorded record breaking profits, while, the people are still losing their homes by the millions. Hey let's not forget the Wall-street banksters either, they are seeing the best markets since 2006, while the rest of us are seeing more food-stamps and being pushed towards the welfare line too.

I just don't know who could be the right one for our countru, because, too me they're all as corrupt as any could find. So in reality just what has happened for the American ppl. again? Just thought he spent his time in the wrong direction, should have worried about getting the people back to work first!

No I don't hate the president and do respect the title, just a little angry about working all my life to to be pushed aside. I served this country and do I expect to have special rights over others? Absolutely not.

I guess you put out the feed and the sheep will come in the field to eat and it's prevalent it doesn't matter what field it is!

Cool, now the parrots of the left think that republicans once again control the price of oil. I suppose next we will hear about bush2 leading a secret government cabal that is denying obama the opportunity to be a leader.

Interesting that the fool, americans first discredits skups report on lawyers and lobbyist contributions to the left as having no bearing on the price of gas, yet AF couldn't prove that either big oil (beyond the cost of bringing it out of the ground and refining) or the republicans can control the price of gas.

Poor americans first, see how he holds high the benefits (by blowing off their $ contributions) of one being a lawyer or lobbyist. Yet on these very forums many from both sides of the aisle have decried wall street and lobbyist (both represented by lawyers) for being in bed with the politicians.

Spin this? Dont you mean spin by you. You did notice the negative or minus symbol correct? This is like you trying to explain to us how you ran a 100 yard dash and lost by 5 seconds to the winner but you are telling us that at least its better than last month when you lost by 6 seconds. You do realize that its an index at the lowest public opinion timing for the GOP candidate when they are beating each other up in the primary right? You realize that just like Obama vs Hillary, after he emerged, he was much stronger running directly against McCain. The same will happen here. You also notice that it is still considered negative confidence by a majority of americans (you do know that a majority means greater than 50% so you are in the minority right?) regarding Obama and that in comparison to past reelected incumbents he would be considered in the losing category right? So there really isnt anything to spin except your version of the facts.

                    Spin this?

No why don't you? You seem to be go at it.

                    Kirk,

So right. So let's see Romney's tax returns for the last decade while the US was fighting two unfunded wars, was running big deficits, and giving tax breaks to billionaires and corporate welfare.

No need to spin that all Mitt's money was in Swiss Bank accounts and Bahamian investment banks. Just show us the returns. We'll decide for ourself....

I thought this was an article about Obama's VCI confidence level and the explanation of where he stands in comparison to other presidents up for reelection. I thought George Bush was a horrible president so dont ask me to try and defend any of his economic policies. As for Mitt and his money, I would have to understand more but my guess is that you dont understand is that unlike corporations, individuals dont escape US income tax because they have money in offshore bank accounts. Money earned in Swiss banks is taxed no different than if earned at Citibank so whats the point? Generally wealthy individuals who are not hiding money from the IRS (which there is no one claiming he was) invest money in offshore accounts for a variety of reasons but the biggest is shielding of these assets from personal legal claims. So lets say he was sued by a bogus class action claim or brought into a law suit in which the judgement exceeded his insurance coverage and personal US assets, its very difficult to attach a judgement to offshore assets in these jurisdictions. This isnt a tax dodge at all. Besides being totally off topic what were you trying to get from me?

You said "no spin". I said, just show me Romney's tax returns. I don't need a lecture on Swiss bank account tax rates. Just show me the returns. I'll decide for myself what kind of a patriotic taxpayer Mitt has been. Thanks,

I said no spin regarding this VCI index and I already thought Mitt showed his tax returns. I am not shilling for Mitt or any other GOP candidates so its not my responsibility to provide no spin facts. Given his history or charity compared to Obama--you know that guy who is so good spending other people's money and he cares so much for the poor and middle class that he donated the whole sum of .6-1.5% of his income from 2003 until he was president and then he bumped it up because the world was watching to the gigantic sum of 5%. My guess is that the charitable comparison is going to go in Mitt's favor. As for offshore assets, having a certificate of deposit in a Swiss Bank is the equivalent of having it in Citibank so not sure I understand the patriotic angle.

At 13.9%, Im sure he paid a higher rate (after tax returns) than you. Hell, my wife and I made $66,000 in taxable income, paid about $9,000 in taxes and got $4,100 back from the government. Before returns, we paid an effective rate of 13.6%. After we got our tax return, we paid a rate of 7.4%. That means that my family paid 7% of our income to the government coffers. We are now down to 1 income, we have no debt and save $1,000 a month and live a very comfy lifestyle.

If the average American actually looked into what they were paying in AFTER their tax return, their tune would change quite a bit. And if you pay more than 20% of your income to taxes and make less than $250,000, then you should hire someone to do your taxes, because you REALLY suck at it.

Don't hear GOP or Obama discuess why you should support this aspect of their cover up: The Obama-al-Qaeda-MEK Connection--British puppet President Barack Obama has entered into an alliance with two of the worlds leading terrorist organizations—al-Qaeda and the Mujahideen e-Khalq (MEK)—in his zeal to overthrow the present governments in Syria and Iran. The Obama-al-Qaeda marriage of convenience is particularly deep and it centers on the drive to overthrow the government of Bashar Assad in Damascus, through an armed opposition.

U.S. intelligence agencies are aware that the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) has no actual military capabilities inside Syria, and consists largely of a group of defectors from the Syrian Army who are safe-housed on military bases inside Turkey. All of the significant military actions targeted at the Syrian government have been carried out by al-Qaeda terrorists, who have infiltrated the country from Iraq. The suicide bombings in Damascus and Aleppo, the assassinations of Syrian government and military officials, and the sabotage of pipelines and other infrastructure have all been carried out by al-Qaeda. Despite widespread evidence in the hands of U.S. intelligence agencies, President Obama continues to join hands with the new al-Qaeda head, Ayman al-Zawaheri, in calling for the violent removal of President Assad from power.

The idea that the President of the United States is so blatantly in bed with the terrorists who carried out the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001 should be sufficient grounds for his immediate removal from office, under the impeachment provisions of the U.S. Constitution or Section 4 of the Twenty-fifth Amendment. Last year, following the U.S. Navy SEAL Team killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin-Laden, President Obama did cartwheels to claim credit for the act. Now, he is allied with the very same 9/11 perpetrators in pushing for a war in the Persian Gulf that will rapidly expand into a global thermonuclear confrontation with Russia and China.

                    The British Role

As well-documented in Executive Intelligence Review, the al-Qaeda attacks of 9/11 were carried out with the full support of the Anglo-Saudi Al Yamamah apparatus. Under the al-Yamamah oil-for-arms deal, launched in 1985 and continued through to the present, British intelligence and the Saudis created a string of offshore covert operations funds, which directly financed the 9/11 attacks. Al-Yamamah funds, in excess of $2 billion, were funneled to Saudi Prince Bandar bin-Sultan, and at least $50,000 of those funds went to the San Diego-based team of 9/11 hijackers. A Joint Congressional Select Committee, probing the 9/11 attacks, established evidence of the Bandar-al-Qaeda funding, but the 28-page chapter detailing this evidence was suppressed by the George W. Bush White House. At the start of his administration, President Obama promised family members of the 9/11 victims that he would release the 28 pages, but he never kept his promise, and moved to further suppress the evidence of al-Yamamah angle on the attacks, thus protecting his British masters along with the Saudi Royals.

To this day, former Senator Bob Graham (D-Fla.), who co-chaired the Congressional probe, insists that the cover-up of the Saudi Monarchy's complicity in the attacks must be exposed publicly.

President Obama's embrace of the 9/11 terrorists, after the fact, constitutes a scandal of enormous proportions for this Administration, and underscores further the hypocrisy of Obamas efforts to exploit the bin-Laden assassination, while he colludes with the remnants of al-Qaeda.

The same is true of the President's collusion with the Mujahideen e-Khalq, an Iranian terrorist group that has been on the U.S. State Departments list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations since its inception in 1997. MEK assassinated a number of U.S. military personnel in Iran in the 1970s, actively participated in the 1979 Iranian Revolution, and then fled to Iraq and allied with Saddam Hussein, after they were purged from the Islamic Republic leadership. In recent weeks, MEK has been linked to the assassinations of Iranian scientists. This week, the Bangkok Post revealed that Thai authorities believe that MEK terrorists were behind foiled attempts to attack Israeli officials. Those attacks were loudly blamed on the Iranian government, and fed the drive to launch military action against Iran.

While the Obama Administration has attempted to keep a distance from the assassinations and bombings and other acts of sabotage inside Iran over the past two years, MEK has been protected by U.S. military forces at Camp Ashraf inside Iraq, ever since the U.S. invasion of that country in March 2003. In 2008, whoever won the Presidency was going to inherit an unprecedented mountain of garbage. McCain, who's capable of common sense, blew it when he allowed the GOP to place a photogenic village idiot in his VP spot.

So why has the Republican corporate machine leaned into Crazytown and allowed this current crop of bozos to lead their pack? Science fiction couldn't do justice to the 2012 Republican Presidential slate -- it's just too weird and sociopathic.

The Ryan Plan, on which ALL Republicans have signed.

With regard to health care, are you saying you had no health care before Obamacare was enacted and now you do?

                    Yep.

There are other plans Republicans have devised also, including, but not limited to, Grover Nordquist's Plan as whole, as well as Republicans systematic efforts to break up all employee unions, repeal the minimum wage, and force DOWN American Workers wages and benefits (such as health care benefits).

Nordquist has stated that Republicans don't need anyone with brain, all they need is someone who will sign into law everything that Nordquist approves of, which ALL basically says the following:

Republicans = More Tax Cuts for the Rich, more Pay Cuts for Working Americans.

I KNOW OF NO REPUBLICAN PLAN WHICH CALLS FOR ANY IMPROVEMENT FOR AMERICAN WORKERS, NOR ANY INCREASE IN WAGES OR HEALTH CARE BENEFITS.

Let's pretend I'm Joe Independant Voter.

Give me one reason to vote for Santorum. All I see from him doing is implying that wanting access to college makes you a slob, being repulsed by concept of a Separation of Church and State, saying that homosexuality is equivilant to bestiality, claiming that women should be denied access to contraception, and refusing to raise taxes on the wealthy in a debt crisis.

So far Newt Gingrich seems to be a perfect clone of Santorum, while Romney doesn't seem to have consistent stances on anything. Ron Paul is far too extreme for me (even Romney admits cutting $2.5 trillion in one year can hurt the economy).

Obama has some problems, but he seems pretty committed to making the tax code fairer, and he's helped get the manufacturing industry back to the United States. I'm concerned about this "Obamacare" people seem to be talking about, but I think it's better to reform it rather than eliminate it. He's also brought troops home from Iraq, and has won the Afghanistan War with the essential destruction of Bin Laden. Plus he reformed Wall Street.

Spinning nothing, elections are decided by trends. Right now the economy is trending upward, by strong amounts. Obama's vci has trended upwards for five straight months. It's too early to call the race, but the other race to the bottom on right wing social issues that is going on in the Republican primaries, tends to trend in the Democrats favor. An even slightly better economy, and two more months of Santorum preaching the complete removal of the separation between church and state (dragging Romney down with him), and I'm ready to throw down my bets on Obama. And let's hope that will spell an end to the unAmerican Tea Party.

jonbell, since you don't seem to have much of a grasp on history, it should be pointed out the when Obama took office, we were, indeed, on the brink of financial collapse in this country. But, since you haven't been paying attention, we are considerably further away from that brink now than we were in January, 2009.

If you truly want to vote on that issue alone, you should be voting for Obama, who backed us off of the brink. And, leave the first lady out of it. That comment only shows the world what to think of you, not Michelle Obama.

It always amazes me when people do not understand how well we have done and when they say Obama has failed I wonder in what category? In 1932 the economy continued to tank and unemployment was almost 24 percent. One thing I have always liked about President Obama is that he checks our history and tries not to make the same mistakes that happened before. BTW that is the next thing to actual experiencing it. But I know that is way above some of the peoples heads. I wonder if they are the ones who think you are snobs if you go to college? What does that make Santorums family? And he thinks a woman is going to vote for him if he tells her she can't use birth control? HOw many old controlling white men are left out there to vote for Santorum and I doubt they would even want to have 10 or 15 kids.

Haven't we learned enough the first time around with Obama? i mean, nothing personal, but what has he done for US lately? seems his rating is going up only because he has to run again for the top notch, top job, representer of this country. if he gets re-elected, we are done for as a nation. once is enough, lessons learned, don't let this happen again. already, he's made US the laughing stock of the world. his shenanigans with Great Brittain, and Ireland are still be widely discussed in all political and social realms, we are the only ones trying to forget. we need someone with more experience and dedication and knowledge to get US out of the dismal rut he forced US into. as a leader, what else can i say? Obama, respectfully, you need to take your wife, your children and your dog out of the white house and get a job.

United we stand and divided we fall. Those words have been reworked by the Democratic Party to read united we lose and divided we win. Keep the American people divided. From class warfare, to partisan politics the more divided the better for the Democratic Party. Obama's legacy could easily be summed up as the Great Divider.

Obama has everyone of his supporters believing the Democrats equal good and the Republicans equal bad. He has turned the American people against each other with his race card and class warfare rhetoric, and there is incredible hatred in this country as a result. This election has nothing to do with his ability to do the job of the president, and everything to do with us against them.

It is a sad commentary on the idiocy of the American voter that could careless about the condition of the country and more about whats in it for me. As if this government is ever going to be able to live up to the promise a second rantings coming out of Washington. Those countries that hate us don't have to do a thing, we are imploding with many cheering it on through blind support for Obama.

In all honesty, how can any of you really believe the VCI of a slanted news source? I mean honestly, when 40% of everyone polled say your doing a REALLY crappy job, that says something.

People who say that Obama is the great Divider, hasn't seen the workings of the Republican Party lately. Within itself, completely ignoring that Democrats exist, the Republican Party is fracturing. This has nothing to do with Obama. This is extremist wanting to come and do whatever they need to do to get what they want, no matter what it will do to the country. Obama hasn't done the best job and I do disagree with some of his policies, but he is better then the people who are trying for his seat. those who say that Obama will end our country need to think about the rights that Romney or Santorum would take from us if they were put into office.

The slowest economic recovery in our lifetimes is NOT due to Obama; but to all the signers of the so-called "Norquist Pledge". Among them 41 Senators & 438 Congressmen (Plus Mitt & Newt) who are holding this Countrys' lawmaking in Gridlock! it is scarey, that one man, (the #1 Lobbyist for the Keystone Pipeline) can grind this Country to a halt, and almost "treasonous"?? If His ATR & "Tea Party" people want "REAL TAX REFORM", just let them follow their "namesakes", grab their "axes" and "AX THE TAX CODE"?? That is where your "DEFICIT" is?? Your allegiance is to your Country, NOT weathy lobbyists and Corporations???

                        America’s Most Corrupt Politicians

                        http://godfatherpolitics.com/2887/americas-most-corrupt-politicians/

In the list of the top ten most admired men, was none other than President
                        Barack Obama.

Now Judicial Watch has released the Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians list.
To no surprise of my own, President Barack Obama made Judicial Watch’s list
along with the nation’s top cop, Attorney General Eric Holder.

Judicial Watch’s Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians for 2011 are listed in
                        alphabetical order:

                        Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL)

                        Former Senator John Ensign (R-NV)

                        Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL)

                        Attorney General Eric Holder (D)

                        Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL)

                        President Barack Obama (D)

                        Rep. Laura Richardson (D-CA)

                        Rep. David Rivera (R-FL)

                        Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)

                        Rep. Don Young (R-AK)

                        Dishonorable Mentions for 2011 include:

                        Former Senator John Edwards (D-NC)

                        Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA)

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA)

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano (D)

                        Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

                        Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY)

                        Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY)

Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius (D)

Note that six of the ten list are Democrats
and six of the eight listed on the dishonorable mention are Democrats. That’s
75% of those on both lists are Democrats. That has to say something for the
overall mentality of the attitude of being above the law that permeates the
                        Democratic Party.

As for President Obama making this list and being listed as the most admired
man in the country speaks volumes as to just how far American society has
declined. Why would a nation of people admire one of the most corrupt
politicians of the day and probably in the history of the American presidency?

Obama has repeatedly defied the US Constitution and federal laws. He ignores
the mandates of Congress and the general opinion of the American people and yet
they turn around and admire him for it?

And then there has to be a lot said when the US Attorney General makes it to
the Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians list. The man who is supposed to uphold
the law turns out to be one of the biggest violators of the law. Every day,
more Congressmen and women are calling for his immediate resignation and even
more are signing on to a vote of no confidence and yet he sees himself as doing
no wrong. Leaving Eric Holder in his role as US Attorney General is like
placing a career pedophile in charge of a day care.

I wish we could post Judicial Watch’s lists of the Ten Most and the
Dishonorable Mention outside every polling booth in the nation so that it’s the
last thing voters see before placing their votes. Just maybe, it would be
enough to change a few votes this next year.

Well if Obama wins a second term it won’t be
because I didn’t do everything that I could to prevent that from happening.
Obama and this administration lie to us the American public every day. It has
become almost impossible to know what is true and what is not true. Spread the
truth. Obama and this administration prey on the uneducated and the uninformed.
Obama has become an artist at saying one thing and doing another. Obama has
been the worst most destructive president to Americans and what we believe in.

LETS LIGHT THE FIRE TO IGNITE A FREE AMERICA THAT
OUR FORFATHERS WOULD BE PROUD OF.

A FIRE THAT WOULD ENSURE THAT THE REPUBLIC STARTER
BY THE FOUNDERS OF THIS COUNTRY WILL LAST FOREVER.

A FIRE THAT WOULD LET OBAMA AND THOSE LIKE HIM
KNOW THAT WE DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN A SOCIALIST COUNTRY.

A bunch of whiny little cry babies always bringing up the socialism crap. The disaster this economy is in began it's avalanche to near depression levels at the conclusion of the George Bush era, which interestingly in the GOP debates NOT ONE TIME has his presidency been brought up as a gleaming example of success NOT ONCE. Because... it was an utter failure, two unfunded wars that cost well over 2 trillion and counting. Bush tax cuts still going( I thought tax cuts were the answer to everything) just didn't stop the recession/depression from happening. 2+ trillion in tax revenue, so the whole Iraq-Afg fiasco has cost well over 4 trillion, guess we can't blame Obama entirely on the 15 trillion dollar debt.

Once again, let's just say Obama is a pretty bad President (he's not; he's actually one of the best Presidents of the last 50 years but let's just assume for now). What makes you think Romney or Santorum or Gingrich are better? Ron Paul you could make a legitimate case, but not for anyone else.

I would have to imagine if these polls had Obama losing; they would be consildered cold hard fact. You are also saying that the Wall Street crowd who supposedly does not trust Obama would skew the numbers to make Obama look good?

What a bunch of BS!! You're right Msnbc is one of the worst and lying to the American People and it makes me wonder why Msnbc is so biased in their reports. Are they being paid by the White House or does the White House have something on them that could damage their reputation? Read the article in Huffingpost Business "Growing Number of Americans Can't Afford Food" posted today.

Since we aren't going to talk about the article and our going to fall into our own narrow views of the world lets us try to discuss the big picture. Three things. Does this poll matter? Is America getting better? And What do we want?

First of all, no this is a poll from Msn. Go figure.

Secondly, no America hasn't been getting better, we have just stagnated mainly because of the massive amount of money spent bailing out America. America will, I believe, right itself over the next few years with or without government help though.

Lastly, what America wants is a better economy, a stronger middle class, and some effective leadership.

How we are going to get this is for you F**kers to figure out.

Someguy: Lastly, what America wants is a better economy, a stronger middle class, and some effective leadership.

So why don't you tell that to your Rethug overlords who promise jobs in getting elected in 2010!!! They took over the House!! And all they have wanted since then, is CUT,CUT, CUT and FILIBUSTER and block any propositions from the Democrats and the president to fix the economy, create jobs, and help the middle class!!

Why don't you take off your rose colored glasses and see parrotface McConnell, CantWhore, BoehNer, the 4 stooges candidates, All of the GOP caboodle for what they are: serving the 1% and their corporate donors, such as the Koch brothers, the mega oil corps, etc.

The Greedy Obstructionist Party HAVE NO ideas of how to fix the problems DUH-BYA started! (And neither do YOU!!) So, obviously, they rather TANK this country like the titanic so they can fulfill FAT ASZ Rush Limbaugh's prophecy of wanting Obama to fail and hoping to get back in the WH.

Obama is taking us the right direction, and there has been improvements despite the push back from the right! But the Rethugs and lemming base refuse to see or accept this, so they continue to spew lies and baseless false accusations, and negativity.

I worked for a very profitable company that used the economy crash of the republicans to layoff the people from the company that had 30-40 yrs of service. In other words people in their 50-70 range. People who performed flawless making the company what it is. But these people had high benefits, so 1/4 of them are gone, with new people at lower pay and benefits and are clueless as to product and work ethic. No all these elder people are not back to work as mentioned above. They are using their savings and taking early retirement at a loss. They are using food stamps to get by, many lost their homes, sold every thing they owned. $20 hr jobs now are $10 hr and that does not keep them above water. Staffing companies and employers say these people in 60's are going to retire soon, why hire them. Republicans and their housing bubble scam and lower taxes for the rich caused the problem. They held the country hostage to give the billionaires another tax break and vote against every plan to fix economy just to give more money to the GREEDY RICH. Even Reagan could not get elected today because the rich republicans are so crazy with greed!

                                          Tajen:

Im sorry that you are in a dark place right now. I want that to be better for you and everyone that you know. I would reach out to say that if you read on four acts of congress, you will find that these actions created the platform for greed and destruction. These are the removal of the banking act of the 1930's, the Glass Steagal Act, Gramm Rudman Act and the Commodities reconciliation act of 2000. All of these changes were made by the Republican Congress years before this current President. These are impossible for a President to change without an act of Congress on each matter.

This is testament to the fact that history repeats itself, and that the Republican philosophy of playing with no rules is not only a many times failed mutation, but that Republican ideology is solely to blame for the loss of Trillions of dollars of US wealth and family prosperity. The real question to you is whether you want a few to have all or all to have a few. Think about it.

You must surely believe that it is solely the responsibility of the Congress to right these wrongs. There is no other way. We have to fix our broken system of bribes before we can truly move forward as a country.

As to happiness and liberty and personal responsibility. These are all well in tact and fully within the control of each individual. These are all found from within. Take joy in the Grace and Love of Jesus Christ and Take stock in your power from within to make the world a better place. Live the change you want to see in the world.

One brother less and 4 trillion in debt. Good ole Republican ISM.

You girls are WAY too young to remember the Monkees! They were popular long before you ladies were born, surely! And yes, for a pubescent male, competing against teen heart throbs was a bit daunting.

                                            Rest in peace, Davy Jones.

Obama'smy way or the highway policy started in 2008 when he assumed he would have a majority of dim-wits in the House and Senate. Thankfully that policy was soundly rejected in 2010. As the country gets to know Mitt Romney they will come to appreciate his common sense approach to business and governing. It will be a breath of fresh air for other politicians in Washington to work with a better leader as well. I think you will see more of the old spend thrifts leave politics in favor of those who believe America is stronger when it's people spend private money.....

Again, how can you call Obama a failure where the US and Germany are the only countries in the western world not having double dipped recessions and ever soaring unemployment. Germany is doing great because they were inteligent enough to regulate their banks and wasn't as hard hit by the recession. Again, your boy Christi's state ranks number 41 in state economic health only one above Mississippi (the poorest state in the country). Reason why those other European conservative governments and New Jersey are tanking, "Austerity Measures." This is exactly what the GOP wanted us to do, address the deficit before the economy. Even Reagan the GOP hero didnt do that. He doubled the budget and deficit and keep the income tax rate up to 50% until his last two years in office, and the recession he was dealing with was a drop in the bucket compared to this one.

LOL Who do they think created this disaster in the first place??? As if Obama is to blame for the deficit...give me a break! I am sick of all of these idiots who refuse to deal with the facts. Bush took the surplus left by Clinton and turned it into a deficit with two wars that were not paid for thanks to his glorious tax cuts for the rich. Do the right wing radicals really think that was a good economical decision? Come on...no more BS...trickle down economics does not work, if it did, the country wouldn't have gone to hell under George W. Bush right???

Gullible is not in the dictionary. Look it up!!!

Obama has spent $0 keeping his records sealed. They are as sealed as your records are, there's nothing special about how Obama's records are protected. Colleges can't release transcripts to anyone (including parents of children over 18) without the permission of the student. States have to follow their own laws about who has access to vital records.

NO other president has released proof of birth or passport pictures before being elected or during office. Usually such documents appear in the presidential libraries long after their terms are up. Bush and Kerry's transcripts were leaked to the press by unknown sources. McCain never publicly released his BC.

One way to tell that no records have been sealed -- try to find the lawsuits and court orders actually sealing the records. Such court orders are public. You won't find any, because the records are just as sealed any other citizen's.

I guess the public has forgiven him for adding 5 trillion dollars to the debt, a failed stimulus that even provided automatic weapons to mexican drug cartels.

Sorry if I seem bitter but my wife and I both lost our jobs. 60k a year my pregnant wife and I are paying huge premiums for health insurance.

I also benefited by the stimulus, BUT it should have been BIGGER!

Where was the downgrade pres. plan, leading from the rear again i suppose, where was pelosi's plan? funny how the dems spent over 5 trillion in debt and have no accountability for their actions.

Universal healthcare is the final straw in the nation busting democrat plan.

Trico77, are you and your wife collecting extended unemployment benefits? Remember the Republicans were dead set against extending anything to benefit the unemployed? Do you recall the former Presidential candidate that said "if you aren't rich, blame yourself"? He is a Republican.

Our current President has made mistakes, but I cannot believe that you hold him to blame for an economy that was crashing long before he was elected. Are you aware that the stock market is at or close to a four year high? Since President Obama took office in 2009, that would certainly indicate that things were bad before he took office. You may not like him, but try being honest. All of Washington shares blame for the mess we are in. Wall Street is also up to their eyeballs in speculation that hurts us...

trico - Obama has faithfully submitted a budget to the house every year, and every year since the 2010 elections the house has faithfully altered it to something unrecognizable from what Obama submitted. There is supposed to be compromise. There is no compromise coming from the republican side of the house.

Neither Reid nor Pelosi are responsible for submitting a budget.

Bleary obamas budget that was submitted to the senate last year and was voted on by the senate brought to the floor by mcconnel was defeated 97-0.. His budget that was sent to the senate this year arrived late and will never see a vote b/c reid will not let it come to a vote.

Please explain to me how a democrat supermajority in the house and senate would only vote on spending measures and not a budget. The senate has not had a budget in over 1000 days, or 3 yrs.

trico, one word. filibuster. Obama has never had a filibuster proof senate. Facts are facts, if you are unemployed this president has done more to help you than his opposition has. They would, in fact, rather toss you out there and let you sink or swim on your own. They have no interest in leveling the pool so that you have a chance TO swim. They would rather slant the pool so that all the water is in their end and you just bump your head. Smell the coffee man, Republicans have done nothing to help America and everything they could to help themselves. Sink or swim is great, if there is water in the entire pool but Republicans have never worked that way, they talk a good game, then they bend the rules or eliminate them to favor themselves.

Please explain to me how a democrat supermajority in the house and senate would only vote on spending measures and not a budget. The senate has not had a budget in over 1000 days, or 3 yrs.

One word: filibuster. Here's one link if you wish to educate yourself: tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/01/the-rise-of-cloture-how-gop-filibuster-threats-have-changed-the-senate.php

PS: the correct term is "Democratic supermajority"

The Budget is EXEMPT from the Filibuster. That means it only takes 51 votes to pass a Budget. HOW MANY DEMOCRATS IN THE SENATE??

Seems to me that the ONLY time that Obama's Budget proposal was voted on it was defeated 97-0!!

Hmmm ... Interesting. I guess The Hill was BS'ing when they wrote the following - would you and Bob like butter with that?

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that he's considering a filibuster of the budget agreement to fund the government for the remainder of this fiscal year.

Paul, who said yesterday that he would vote against the agreement reached last Friday to cut $39.9 billion between now and September, acknowledged that he's considering waging a filibuster, which would make it so that leaders need 60 votes to pass the deal and advance it to President Obama's desk.

"Yes, but we haven't really made a final decision on that yet," Paul said on conservative talker Sean Hannity's radio show.

Okay, if you are a fair minded person then you must list what your beloved party did to put us in a hole so deep we have had to literally bloodied our nails to crawl out of it. I am sorry that you are having economic hardship, I am too, so are many millions of others, but do you in your heart of hearts really believe that either Romney or, I am sorry, gOd help us all, Santorum, has any clue as to how to be a president? Do you further understand that with the Republicans doing anything and everything to thwart any efforts the president is trying to make, and to his credit, he and the dems fight tooth and nail against it, do you really want that continued representation? Your own party is putting the hurt on you and yours. But, hey, if you think a man who forces his dog into a crate on top of his car can do better in the White House, then God bless. Don't even get me started on Santorum! I'd be here all night and it's almost cocktail hour! Peace!

AlaskaGirl I can tell you're ONLY reading msnbc. You surely must remember 9/11/2001 and the twin towers that are not there any more. President Bush had to make a decision only 8 months into office, these attacks were not planned in that 8 months. We can thank President Clinton for that and the high debt we have now because we had to defend ourselves. It's no different than when Pearl Harbor was attacked. The higher toll was the loss of lives and the uncertaintly of being attacked again. You also have to admit that right now our government is controlled by the White House and the Democrats. The Republicans only have a majority in the House. So start reading more sites like those recommended by PBS, RealClear Politics.com. They tend to report the news without bias.

I am sorry you and your wife both lost your jobs. I lost mine too but not because of Obama or Democrats. It was due to Republicans in our state cutting the budget in order to give huge tax breaks to corporations. As far as your home goes in regards to foreclosure, the Obama administration has put programs in place to help. Not sure if you would qualify but check out www.makinghomeaffordable.gov. There would be no help for someone in your income bracket if it weren't for Democrats. Seriously.

GreenGirl are you forgetting 9/11 and the twin towers that are NO MORE. President Bush was only in office 8 months when the USA was attacked. Yes, we are in debt because of this but the biggest loss was the 3000+ lives that were wiped off the face of the earth. These attacks were not planned in 8 months but over the course of years when President Clinton was in office. In addition, the people of China think Clinton is a God, he's the one who made all the deals with them- remember the Asian Trade Agreement. There are no big tax cut for corporations in the USA or else they would be doing business here in the USA. They just move their companies to countries that don't have high corporation taxes. And, yes, we can blame President Obama for the mess we're in today. The Democrat President of the White House and the Democrat Senate control the government right now and have had this control for 3 years now.

Also, in my 14 years in the pension industry where I reviewed corporate tax filings and helping provide corporate tax deductions (I saw a total of 3 returns that actually had corporate taxes due in 14 years, the rest had $0.00 due or a return) I can say from first hand working experience, corporations pay little taxes, if any. A majority of the burden fell on small business filing as Sole Proprietors and LLC's.

                                            Let's stick with the facts!

                                            Hey JM,

Because that measure you are referring to is NOT a budget. It was a measure to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year. Budgets are SUPPOSED to be done and passed before October 1st every year, the start of the new fiscal year. The only budget that I have ever heard of being proposed got decimated bypartisanly (is that a word?). Budgets that are proposed in the Senate that are proposed BEFORE the start of the new fiscal year can not be fillibustered.

Its OK, JM. You just didnt know.

It is an accepted fact that sound travels faster than light, which is why some people appear bright, until you hear them speak.

The more we hear the GOP speak, the more we realize the light has gone out long ago.

Have you ever seen fireworks before? Maybe you remember that when the fireworks explode, you see the big burst of color before you hear the bang. If you were right next to the firework, way up in the air, the flash and the sound would seem to be at almost the same time, but the farther away you are, the bigger the gap will be between the pretty light and the big boom.

Sound travels through air at about 770 miles per hour. Interestingly enough, the speed of sound changes depending on the temperature - warmer days make sound travel faster, and colder days make it travel slower (this is because the air is less dense on warm days, so there aren't as many air molecules to move to get the sound from point A to point B). Sound travels at a different speed through water, or other mediums, such as earth, metal, wood, etc.

Light travels at about 670,619,880 miles per hour in space. That's a LOT faster than sound!! Again, the speed of light changes for air, down to around 650,500,000 miles per hour. When it goes through glass, water, or anything else, it slows down a lot more (but is still much much faster than sound).

I get what you're trying to say, but I think your logic is backwards...

The economy sucks. I think you would find very few people that wouldn't agree with that. Some may say it is getting better and others worse. But most people would agree that it is not in a good place at the moment.

This is a hard thing for a president seeking re-election. Obama is going to have his work cut out for him.

On the upside. The Republican party hasn't given him any real competition. People don't want Romney. Period. The vast majority of his support is based on the idea that he could unseat Obama. Not that he'd be a better president. This is evident by the flavor of the week not-Romney Republican surges. People want anyone but Romney. The Republicans want anyone but Obama and will settle for Romney if that is what it takes. The problem that the Republicans have is that they can't put Romney in the White House by themselves. They have to get the Independent voters to vote for him to and I just don't see that happening.

Polls are worthless. The only people who participate in the polls are those that are adamant supporters of one candidate that don't hang up the second that they hear that it is a political poll.

Many of them have jobs but their jobs don't provide any health care benefits since their bosses either don't want to offer them any insurance or they offer a plan which requires the worker to pay a certain amount. I guess it's good that there is Obamacare out there to help with the 54+ million people who would benefit and not let a one week hospital stay bankrupt them.

People put things in quotes usually because they do not necessarily believe what is said, and want to emphasize that the quote was said by another.

Oh he's chasmatic and can sing but so what. I don't want a signing president who does nothing for this country and would rather have a serious president who loves his country.

I think you mean charismatic, and singing. A chasm is a hole in the ground, and most presidents sign things frequently.

Are we better off than 6 years ago when we were all issued a check for $1425 from the treasury department with instructions to go out and spend it on consumables??? And most Americans paid off debt with it instead. I think that's when the initial "red flag" of an impending economic downturn hit the fan and has been sliding since. The recovery is beginning, it didn't slide over night and obviously it will not recover over night.Try going back to your George W. Bush for the beginnings of these tough times, notice your GOP debaters not ONE time have brought up ole George's name as an example of success. They avoid his 8 years like the PLAGUE.

Like Mitt Romney, who can afford to stash his money in Switzerland and the Bahamas...Let's see those tax returns from previous years.....

Stashing your money in swiss bank accounts doesnt avoid US federal income tax. You are wasting your time. You are buying into some thinkprogress media conspiracy theories. For example, did you know that the bank called Charter One here in the US is actually owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland? So if you have a bank account with them are you stashing your assets in Scotland? If you open a bank account in the bahamas, Paris, Norway, Caymans etc and you earn income off those certificates of deposit, guess what you pay tax here in the US. Somehow this is your biggest concern about Romney? I would think there are much bigger issues like can he really fix the economic mess that Obama would leave him?

Obama is still fixing the last Republican clown's mess. You're delusional Kirk. No more credibility with statements like this. It shows that you ignore little things like facts. So does the nonsense that you just posted about foreign ownership of banks. Just google it to see how far off the mark you are. People have been stashing money in Swiss and Cayman banks to avoid taxes for years and just saying that it doesn't happen, does not make it fact. Again, please do a little research before you post your gut feelings.

Amused, there you go again speaking on things you dont know anything about. Nobody is accusing Mitt of investing money in offshore banks as tax avoidance because thats illegal. Yes, people have been doing it for years and it has always been illegal. Not only am I not off the mark, I am 100% factually correct, so maybe you should do some research and stop always assuming people that share different opinions than you are wrong. Generally people who have stashed money in offshore banks to avoid tax earned the money illegally also but not always. For example, a US executive could have been working in a foreign country and earned cash that wasnt reported to the IRS. If used to be common to then open up a Swiss bank account and hide it offshore. Its very difficult to do that anymore but people try. Nobody is accusing Mitt of doing that and having some assets invested in London, Switzerland or the Bahamas doesnt avoid US tax unless he is doing it illegally which no one is claiming. Sorry Amused but again you are wrong so you should do some real research.

Second, of course my last comment was an opinion and guess what I agree that Obama is still trying to fix the last GOP clown's mess. My problem is in your statement that he is "still" trying almost 4 years later and the only thing he has done is made it worse or at best not made it any better from a really bad situation. I might be delusional that Mitt cant do it. I am not delusional about Obama's economic policies and yes you very well might be delusional that he will fix Bush's mess. Thats what makes politics interesting is the different views how experience and history can be ignored to make the same mistakes over and over. We have Obama guinea pig states in California and especially Illinois. We know Obama's economic policies mirror the government's economic policies in those states. We know where his policies will lead-Europe and we have historical precedent to see how thats turned out. We can debate all we want but it would be nice if you tried be respectful and actually critically think before you reply so you dont make statements like that I am delusional and no more credibility with my comments on foreign banks when you clearly are 100% incorrect.

trico, he did help heal the nation. Had a 90% approval rating after 9/11. We were all Americans then. However, you do know that 9/11 happened on Bush's watch, right? You do know that? You do know that he sat for long minutes after being told that yet another plane had hit the Twin Towers. Long minutes when he could have been giving the Air Force orders. They didn't know what to do.

And his eight years gave us the mess we're in now. You know the recession started in 2007, right. You know he didn't put the trumped up war with Iraq or the one in Afghanistan on the books, right?

slo, he could have acted like the President of the United States and our Commander in Chief and left to consult with our military leaders, who were waiting on him, and our intelligence guys. A lot of things could happen in - what was it 5 mins? 7 mins? Maybe he was in shock. He looked like he was in shock. Can't afford to have the CIC in shock ever. Being President is a tough job. When told we were under attack, just sitting there was foolish. He didn't know whether someone knew where he was and he was the next "hit." Frankly, I think the Secret Service should have hustled him on out. I didn't like President Bush's policies and believe we can thank those said policies for the shape we are in, but I wouldn't have wanted him to be hurt; and he looked and acted stupidly as he continued to sit there. I'm not fond of our President, even Bush, looking stupid.

Your right, but the Bush administration severely miscalculated Iraq's WMD, which was not nearly what they believed it to be. #2 Dick(Halliburton) Chaney, and Donald (Patton) Rumsfeld convinced ole George that in 3 years post invasion Iraq and Afg. would be cleaned up, uh.... slight miscalculation and American lives and..+2 trillion in debt in addition no revenue to pay for it since Bush tax cuts were initiated at the same time making the total price tag nearly 4 trillion. And here we almost swallowed the Rep. Paul Ryan 6 trillion debt reduction in 10 years CRAP with no tax increase and entitlements are the sole reason for the 15+trillion debt crisis, ohhhhh, what a bunch of Republican RHETORIC.These 2 wars set us back BIG time in focusing on domestic policy issues,BIG TIME.

You people are actually kind of funny, and, the desperation is also very comical.

Whether you like it or not, the article makes a valid point. Economic indicators have been consistently showing improvement for a number of months. As the economy improves, so will the President's approval rating. Will it improve enough before election day? Who knows?

It's obvious to me that the Republican primary is helping the President. The candidates are pandering to the far right in an attempt to get their votes. Unfortunately, this takes them away from the center and those crucial "independent" voters. The President doesn't have to campaign at the moment the radical/over-the-top statements by all the Republican candidates are making him look good.

I believe Mitt Romney is going to win the nomination. His biggest problem is going to be trying to "walk-back" some of his positions in order appeal to independents without losing the far right votes. It will reinforce the perception that he's a "flip-flopper" which will be the kiss of death for many.

It is pretty well known that they tack right to win the nomination and then tack back to the center when it comes time to appeal to general election voters.

Here's what I'm wondering: how the hell are they going to spin all of the BS they've been feeding the rabid right without pi$$ing them off when it comes time for the useful idiots to hit the polls in November? That is going to be one hell of a magic trick. Can wait to see it.

To the drill, baby, drill crowd:

The number of oil rigs has QUADRUPLED under the Obama administration; so by your logic, gasoline prices should be heading down. Whaaaa? Well, how can that be?

Here's one "well-kept-secret": The US was a net oil products EXPORTER in 2011!

The U.S. exported more gasoline, diesel and other fuels than it imported in 2011 for the first time since 1949, the Energy Department said today.

Shipments abroad of petroleum products exceeded imports by 439,000 barrels a day, the department said in the Petroleum Supply Monthly report. In 2010, daily net imports averaged 269,000 barrels. U.S. refiners exported record amounts of gasoline, heating oil and diesel to meet higher global fuel demand while U.S. fuel consumption sank. --Bloomberg

So go ahead and keep buying the well-worn line that gas is going up because of presidential inaction. Keep shilling for the oil companies - who by the way enjoyed record profits in 2011. Just keep the following in mind when you start bitching that Obama isn't bombing Iran fast enough:

Oil prices have risen by a third in just more than two months, spurred largely by speculators capitalizing on unrest in North Africa and the Middle East. The jump in crude prices from $85 per barrel to $112 per barrel since January 2011 has boosted gasoline prices by 22 percent.

President Barack Obama warned in an April 26 letter to congressional leadership that "if sustained, these high prices have the potential to slow our economy’s growth at precisely the moment we need to be accelerating it."

Republican strategy is from a position of weakness because the facts are against them.

President Obama has been somewhat successful with the economy, but it is the Republicans who have been blocking him from doing more. Americans know that.

And it is going to be a tough sell for Romney on foreign policy after Obama was successful in ending the Kaddafi regime, killing bin laden, and ending the war in Iraq.

I am not crazy about Obama but I will even work for him before I see one of these guys walk into the white house for anything but a visit.

Rich, your point is totally ignored in the media. We are afraid of calling a spade a spade. We are being sucked dry not by demand for oil or increased consumption but by sheer speculation. Greed is driving pump prices through the roof. A simple rule change would end this stupidity at once: Speculators are free to bid any price they wish for oil futures, BUT THEY CANNOT SELL THOSE OPTIONS. They must actually buy that crude at whatever price they bid when the contract delivery date comes around. That would end the ridiculous gambling they do nowwith the buying customer's money. The very premise of driving up future prices without having to actually by the product is assinine. Throw in the fact that current retail prices are directly affected by speculation on crude still in the ground and the lunancy is complete...

Are you aware of the number of vacations Prsident Bush took?

I get it - you both hate the President. That's the problem. Both sides hate each other so much that they're unwilling to work together for the good of the country. How is any President (Democrat or Republican), supposed to get anything done in that kind of environment?

It's all about hate. Nothing is ever good enough for either side. And people wonder why most Americans think the country is going in the wrong direction.

Patrick D, That universe would be the USA.

Here are some facts to consider:

                                                            1. When President Obama took office the US was losing 750,000 jobs a month. The job collapse bottomed out at the beginning of 2010, as the stimulus took effect, since then the US has added over 2.4 million jobs. Job growth for 11 consecutive months and a declininig unemployment rate.

                                                            2. "Obamacare" is far more moderate that its critics have claimed. The Congressional Budget office has projected it will reduce the deficit. It is based on the individual mandate, an idea pioneered by the archconservative Heritage Foundation, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. It sets standards, grants incentives, and then allows individual states to experiment. Embedded in it are a slew of cost-reduction pilot programs to slow health-xcare spending.

                                                            3. As to the "Apologizer In Chief" ignoriance -- Obama reversed Bush's policy of ignoring Osama Bin Laden, immediately setting a course that led to his capture and death. It was a triumph not only in killing Bin Laden but also gathering a treasure trove of intelligence to undermine al Qaida even further. And under Bush, our country became very isolated. Our gestures of goodwill opened doors to us, and cut tensions in places where MANY of our troops our exposed. he "led from behind" in Libya where the US helped to radicate that country from a brutal dictator without having to put a single American boot on the ground.

                                                            4. He ended Don't Ask Don't Tell. he saved the auto industry. He has put reforms in place to prevent another housing and banking meltdown. A third of the stimuls was tax cuts, affecting 95% of taxpayers. he has cut the payroll tax, and recently had to fight to keep it cut against the GOP. Plus, the Tax Policyt center, a nonpartisan organization has determined that HIS tax plan would cost Americans LESS that Mitt Romney's, Santorum, and Gingrich's plan that would INCREASE taxes on the middle class and poor, while DECEREASING taxes on the wealthiest 1%.

                                                            5. Obama has taken the least amount of vacation time that the previous 4 Presidents, in comparison. President George W Bush took more vacation time that Clinton, his father, and Reagan combined.

                                                            6. The US has an INCREASED amount of supply of oil and our use/demand is at a low. The gas increases are purely because of Wall Street Speculators as most of the Media (including Fox) is reporting. This is pioneered by the GOP "Free trade". When you don't cap costs, as Obama would like to do, the cost of gasoline can go to whatever the Wall Street speculators want. Have you LOOKED at What Exxon, Shell, and BP made in profit last quarter alone -- billions upon billiions.

President Obama has conducted himself with grace and calm under incredible pressure, who has had to manage crises not seen since WW2 and the Great Depression. And he has had to do that with too many Americans distoring his religion, birthplace, and calling him a Nazi and Socialist (even though the market has hit 13,000 he's still accused of socialism). Not "snobbery" at all -- just impressive from an inter-racial son of a single mother on food stamps who achieved a great education, devoted his life to PUBLIC service, and saved this country from another Depression.

                                                              4. First, it's not don't ask don't tell. The full title of the policy was don't ask, don't tell, don't
harass, don't pursue. I'm sickened people think it was such a great victory when the full understanding of the policy was never mentioned to the public. Gays are full of garbage. I'm in the military. The entire duration of my stay in the military my family hasn't attended any military function...That doesn't impede my ability to serve my country in the least, so I don't know why so many gays are howling about all their "loved" ones they can't bring. Gays can suck it for all I care. Any disputes either weren't brought up to a chain of command or handled properly. I don't fault the policy for that. I fault the soldiers who wanted it removed so they can say "they're gay" openly.

                                                              5. That's not taking into account the time-frame he took his vacation.

                                                              6. Obama's actions have brought a considerable amount of criticism. First, there was a considerable
amount of time before Obama's certificate turned up. I'm inclined to think, down the road a ways there could be a documentary... I don't care one way or another, but the whole matter seemed shady. For the most part Franklin D Roosevelt also conducted himself with grace during the great depression...As did Churchill and Reagan....What's the president supposed to do? Throw up his hands and scream, "The Russians are coming...The Russians are coming?"

I agree, hurrah! The day obama and reed and pelosi had a threesome with all of the others watching ended this liars presidency. Eighty percent of this government is nothing but a bunch of self serving a** kissing do nothing bunch of lying stealing trash and its to bad we the people cannot just take them out to the curb and wait for the garbage truck to pick them up. I am probally being conservative at 80%. America is doomed now, it does not matter who gets elected we cannot survive the debt these last two idiots have put on this great country. It is mathematically impossible to pay off this debt, and all of the candidates who say they can do it are lying. You would have to shut down government for 100 years and take every dime that comes in as taxes to even knock a dent into it. People do not even realise how much 15 trillion dollars is. Bush and obama have destroyed America for their children and mine. The banks and corporations should have been allowed to sink or swim according to their mistakes. You do not reward stupidity. It does not matter how much money you have if America fails, the anarchy will take away every thing you have.
