Romney wins Michigan

NBC News projects that Mitt Romney has won Michigan.

With 84% of the vote in at about 10:47 pm ET, Romney was up 41%-38% over Rick Santorum, narrowly escaping what could have been a crushing blow to his candidacy in the state where he grew up.

Discuss this post

You guys just can''t report anything without a bias, can you?

If a Dem wins by 5 or 6 percent it's decisive.

For Romney it's "narrowly escaping what could have been a crushing blow to his candidacy"

Michigan has seen what Rick Snyder and a Republican legislature can do after 8 years of the Granholm disaster. Businessmen can get governments spending under control and balance budgets.

That is why Romney will win in November.

This is hardly a glowing endorsement for Romney. It is all for naught. This character is going to be back home fixing his father's Rambler in November. He's probably pretty good at that!

Kind of the point, right?

Question is, even if Romney wins the popular vote, how many delegates will he get? My understanding is they are awarded by congressional district. Do you have any information on that?

WCA, bias? The republicans themselves were claiming that if Romney lost Michigan it would be a crushing blow to his candidacy. FR is merely repeating the truth--it would have been.

Santorum lost the Catholic vote in Michigan. No wonder he was trying to take back is "throw up" comment this morning about JFK's speech.

I'm sure by tomorrow morning they will have it figured out.

Santorum will definitely get some delegates. Don't know how close to 50-50 it will be.

Here's a link to a story trying to explain it. Good to read if you are having trouble falling asleep!

"Despite an organized effort by Union Democrats to cross over and vote for Rick Santorum and an additional push by Santorum's campaign urging Democrats to Cross over and vote for him, Mitt Romney heads toward Super Tuesday with some much needed momentum after a victory in the Michigan primary.

So WCA - I see projections for GM sales in Feb. are in the toilet.

Given gas hitting $5.00 [yep, out here is sunny Cali, with our special blended gas we hit that already] what do you anticipate GM's stock decline to be?

Last I saw GM makes literally all it's money off Silverados, Tahoes, and other gas guzzlers.

Funny part is they asked Chu what they were doing to bring gas down and he admitted they are doing nothing. Nope, working on increased battery life.

Fantastic.

Mehehe Romney gets almost beat in his home state and that is why he will win in november? LOL that doesn't even make sense.

Apparently there is always crossover voting in that state. I would say a more ringing endorsement for Romney is that he beat Santorum with catholics (thinking they didn't like him saying Kennedy made him sick.)

I think he is a weak candidate, John Kerry was a weak candidate. Being certain he will beat Obama is a fantasy, he is definitely in the disadvantage. Romney just doesn't connect with people, my biggest issue with him is the norquist pledge. How many people really know that they signed a tax pledge? Will the democrats use this in november? I can't imagine why they would not.

Shhh Spanky. That's the nasty little secret. But nobody wants to talk about it.

If people aren't buying SUVs and Trucks, the Auto Industry is in trouble.

In 2008 high gas prices were the catalyst that pushed the industry over the edge.

GM and Chrysler have been doing better, but the Industry is no where near stable enough to deal with $5 gas.

Just to help out,, the Govt is now going to require that all cars have rear view cameras by 2014. OEM Cost is about $200 which will add about $400 to the cost of each and every car.

Good timing, eh?

Tell me WCA, why are the republicans holding up the Keystone pipeline? One governor refuses to give the go ahead, who happens to be a republican, and they let morons blame Obama.

Tell me WCA, why is Romney wanting war with Iran, that would mean even higher prices. Why did he say he didn't care about gas prices?

More costly mandated OEM equipment.

From what I see, particularly gas - GM is gonna hurt. As is EVERYTHING else. our economy cannot sustain anything over about $3.50 per gallon.

Well at least Obama was honest - he wanted $8-$10 gas, and now he's getting it.

Well at least all those UAW humps will be getting their $7k check from Gm. Too bad GM owes us $50 billion. Oh just what will MSNBC talk about come March when GM shares are down to $5.00?

#1.19 - Tue Feb 28, 2012 11:14 PM EST

See Spanky, that is fear mongering and lies. Obama never said he wanted 8-10 dollar gas, in fact its rather obvious you know nothing about how global oil really works. I had to laugh at Santorum fisting a piece of shale oil and announcing it as an answer. Its 20 times more expensive to process it.

If you want higher gas prices, war with Iran is actually a good way of going about it.

The rearview cameras are for pedestrian protection. Apparently 228 people a year a killed by cars backing up.

I have been involved directly with the cameras as they are offered as an option on some high end vehicles.

People don't use them over the long haul. Short range radar works better and is cheaper.

I wonder what Obama Donor owns a rearview camera company?

The camera costs to the industry will be about $2.7 billion/year. (Well I should say to the consumer, cause the OEM's won't eat it)

Keep any eye on the GM stock. That single daily data point will be a harbinger of the state of the auto industry. I'm not feeling to comfy right about now.

  • 6 votes

Because the auto industry was saved by President Obama in spite of the efforts of the Party of Nope to destroy it, and now the votes of the hundreds of thousands of people whose jobs were rescued by his decisive action now belong to our president and not one of the losers of the GOP.

WCA is just bitter.

Jan, I have repeatedly explained Mitt Romney's position here. Not going to do it again.

He was right. Both companies DID go bankrupt. After the taxpayers and bond holders got screwed and the Unions got paid.

If you want to really understand it, go to my account and find one of the many times I explained it to the stuck on talking points crowd here at FR.

Have a nice night.

I have two cars with cameras and they work great. In fact with the cameras and back up sensors I rarely even turn my head. But then again these were high end cars.

Silly Jan - seems like she [he?] simply buys into Obama saved the auto industry. He 'saved' the UAW. Prolonging the misery because they did not make enough concessions. Unlike all the other AMerican car makers, like Infiniti, BMW, Toyota that has a much better cost structure.

Oh and Jan - what did Obama mean when he said our energy prices would 'necessarily skyrocket?' Or when he said he wanted a 'gradual' increase in price towards European levels?

So when he took office I was paying around $2.00. Now, just three years later - $5.00. Gradual? maybe, but unsustainable and the economy is about to implode, a la '08.

So Jan - you got yourself a Volt yet? Come on GM really needs to unload those suckers.

The only part of those LOANS we got screwed on was the part George Bush gave because he gave the money, he didn't make it a loan. I am well aware that it went bankrupt and how the Bush/Obama money factored into how the judge dealt with it. I also know, my father watched it closely because he has a GM pension and was worried, for no reason as it turns out.

You misrepresent things, as if he used the government funds and bankrupted that money.

Even the obstruction by the republicans is President Obama's fault for having the audacity of being elected by the majority of the people.

A slim victory in his home state keeps Mitt alive.

What will be interesting to see is if Santorum and Gingrich can split their resources and, rather than butting heads, each focus on the regions where they are individually strongest: Santorum in the midwest and rust belt, Gingrich in the deep South bible belt. If they tag team, they can still combat Romney. Neither one of them can beat him; even collectively it's a stretch, but they can at least make him fight for every delegate.

This is kind of funny. Romney wins states (except Florida maybe though they did have a LOT of early voting) that he a) grew up in, b) has a house in or near; or is close to where he was governor C) has a large Mormon population. I think Super Tuesday will tell us a lot about Romney's candidacy. He should win at least half of the states if he is a true front runner/viable candidate, right?
