Subscribe to RSSPro-Rick Santorum robo calls, using the National Rifle Association's name, are running in Michigan ahead of tomorrow's primary, an NRA member in Michigan emails First Read.
The call compares Santorum and Romney's NRA records, urges members to vote for Santorum, and uses Romney's own words against him.
But the NRA, which hasn't endorsed a candidate, says it's not running the calls.
"We're not doing anything," said Andrew Arulanandam, director of Public Affairs for NRA-ILA, or Institute for Legislative Action. "Our position is anyone would be better than Barack Obama. It's absolutely wrong. We are not paying for anything. We're not spending one cent. That is not us -- completely, unequivocally not us."
Arulanandam said there's no way a campaign or someone supporting a campaign, could have gotten their member list. But someone could get another list, like a hunting-license list, that could have some overlap.
The call tells members that if they care about their right to own a gun, then this message is critical. It notes that Santorum received an A-plus rating from the NRA and calls him a a friend of sportsmen and hunters. Romney, on the other hand, is derided as a disaster for gun owners and uses his own words against him.
"I don't line up with the NRA," Romney is heard saying, replaying his comments from his 1994 Senate bid.
Then, the ad urges Michigan residents not to vote for a moderate from Massachusetts and not to let him destroy gun rights and then plays the Romney quote again.

I like my guns but the NRA is a right wing nut job, joke of an organization. The head of the NRA thinks Obama doing nothing about gun control and even lowering gun control by allowing people to carry guns on subways, railways, and national parks was just a set up for the first four years, if he is elected again his all out assault on guns will begin. What a @!$%#ing joke.
I agree as a Member of the NRA they are getting out of hand and will lose members.

I'm talking about if the NRA becomes a seed of the GOP teapugs, that would be a big mistake because 50% of their members are Dem's & Independents. Support Gun rights is a yes, but to support one party is a "No"
The liberals who actually want to take guns away from civilains are the more radical leftwingers in congress and in our state and local governments, no democratic president would ever dare take our guns away or has ever really tried to and no politicain will ever succeed in doing so, regardless of the NRA.

Maybe we should take away all the guns from Americans like Norway has then we wouldn't have anyone shooting a bunch of kids. It has worked so well in Norway.

What needs to be done is take away the guns from the cops they shoot and kill more innocent people than anyone.
There is no need to add to already existing laws and regulations regarding firearms ownership and usage, doing so just gives a false sense of security to those that are ignorant about firearms. The enforcement of the many laws and regulations specific to firearms is key to reducing crime involving guns, not making up new and ineffective legislation as advocated by those that have the abolishment of the 2nd amendment as their ultimate agenda.

I'm not anti-guns but I'm all for practical restrictions. Reality says we're not going to have a violent overthrow of the gov't. If this is reality, then reasonable gun prohibitions can be agreed to. Specifically, reducing the number of guns in America.
I don't care if you want to sport shoot a .50 cal, but if you're a dozen a month, you're doing it for resale. If you're not licensed, this shouldn't be allowed.

I live in NYS. We have some of the most restrictive handgun laws in the country. Do people still get shot with handguns? YES. Should we blame NY? No. If every state were to adopt even a little of the NYS handgun process there would be far fewer handguns available to the nefarious types. In NY in order to purchase a handgun you must file an application to receive a handgun permit. In order to receive this permit you must have cleared an extensive background check.(criminal,mental) your application is reviewed by a judge who may or may not allow you to receive a permit. If you do receive a permit your handgun purchases are monitored, the handguns you own are listed on your permit. This allows for careful monitoring of legal handguns in NY. In many other states the monitoring process is quite lax. The purchase of many handguns of the same caliber, buying many guns in a short period of time. These events should throw up a red flag. With a permitting process,it would Many of the guns bought in these less restrictive states end up in NY. To mock the efforts of states like NY and cities like Chicago to restrict handguns is wrong-headed. The problem lies with the inability to control the amount of handguns coming into these cities and states from places with less control over who purchases these handguns and what they do with them after they are sold. Some sort of National permitting process should be a consideration. The control of handguns should be of concern to all. The regulation of handgun sales should be part of the national discussion
