Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich speaks at Rock Springs Baptist Church on Sunday, Feb. 26 in Milner, Ga.
MILNER, Ga. -- With just nine days to go until Super Tuesday, Newt Gingrich says he is staking the future of his presidential campaign on a win in his home state.
“It’s central to the future of our campaign and we’re going to do everything we can to win here,” Gingrich told reporters about a win in Georgia on March 6th.
Although the former House Speaker feels confident he can win the Peach State, he remains just cautiously optimistic.
“You can never be comfortable until it’s over,” Gingrich, who is leading in some polls in Georgia, said before speaking at Rock Springs Baptist Church's ‘God and Country Rally. “You can’t be comfortable when you have the Romney Super Pac willing to run things that are totally false and willing to spend million and millions of dollars trying to defeat you.”
But Georgia isn’t the only state the former house speaker believes he can perform well in.
“We hope to do very well in Oklahoma and Tennessee. We may surprise people in Idaho. We think we have a real fighting chance in Ohio,” Gingrich said Sunday evening. “We will have to wait and see how the day works out but I think it may be better than people expect.”
Prior to the 11 contests that take place on the first Tuesday in March, however, voters in Michigan and Arizona -- two states Gingrich hasn’t put forth much effort in -- will take to the polls. The Speaker did not campaign in Michigan at all and only held one public event in Arizona after last week’s presidential debate there. The Gingrich campaign seems to have basically conceded the last two states to vote in February to Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.
“I think Gov. Romney has to carry Michigan, I think he has an enormous amount at stake,” Gingrich claimed, but added later that he can still go to the Republican Convention even if Romney doesn’t withdraw from the race at some point.
“Of course we can go to Tampa with Mitt in the race,” the Speaker said. “You could have all four of us at Tampa. You could even have number five and six if somebody gets excited and jumps in."
Gingrich will spend the majority of his time before Super Tuesday in the state of Georgia.

Newt who? Is that fat bastard still running? I thought he died, choked on a hotdog or something.
Newter, if you can't win Georgia then you can't win anywhere.
Have you considered Georgians may still harbor a grudge after you embarrassed them and yourself by being driven from Congress with your tail between your legs after the 300+ ethics violation charges?
They just might remember you as the most corrupt political personality in the United States since Teapot Dome.
CNN reported last week that casino mogul and major Republican donor Sheldon Adelson was expected to contribute as much as an additional $10 million to the super PAC supporting Newt Gingrich, Winning Our Future.
Indeed, thus far, the lion's share of the funding for Winning Our Future has come from Adelson, his wife and their extended family — to the tune of $11 million.
Now, CNN is reporting that sources say the fresh influx of cash has arrived — referring to the sum, however, only as "sizeable."
In the latest edition of Forbes Magazine, multimillionaire Adelson said this in response to critics of his contributions: “Those people are either jealous or professional critics. They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair — but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”
Newt will do great in OK, TN, GA, LA, MS, AL, and OH. Obama will be pinned down this whole year by gas prices. Big oil has not forgotten the Gulf Drilling shutdown or the Keystone Pipeline. They will make the country pay for the folly of electing Obama in 08. Seniors are just now starting to realize the the 1/2 TRILLION DOLLAR transfer of their medicare funds to indigents and illegals will be reflected in a 185% medicare part A and B premium increase in 2014 under Obamacare. They are getting madder by the minute. They food, fuel, and medicare are costing them a whole lot more under Obama plus they are not earning anything on their money i.e. 1% interest due to quantitative easing by the Fed.
Newt's a loser, a quality that is obviously quite attractive to you, HD.
They say his present wife was loose and Newt is even looser - what a loser.
Newt Gingrich is Damaged Goods. There are too many of his fellow Republicans who have Scores to settle with him. If he doesn't become President and acquire the Power to fend them off, settle their Scores they will.
Newt has Burned way too many bridges in his past and I fear the Chickens will be coming home to roost in the very near future. He was a Sly Dog, but his time is running out for him...
When he throws a Young Rising Star under the Bus like Paul Ryan, they will hold him to account and to atone for his transgressions...
Well said Ted.
it is time for you to drop out. you know, like you told santorum. i am starting to think you are a lying hypocrite. just kidding, i know you are
Colonies on the Moon! Now here is a man with some practical, common-sense advice.
And to think they call Liberals "Moon-Bats" !!
I just cannot believe that people in GA could be so gullible and naive to vote for Newt, he is the worst candidate still running. This guy would sellout and doublecross anybody for his own gain. Newt would destroy this country and its people.
Newt double-crossed three wives - I'm not sure if this is counting his present (home-wrecker) spouse.
His birth certificate should be checked - he seems to be related to Democratic Sen. Joseph Kennedy.
Sorry Major but typewriters have not been used in decades. That's the problem with your old way of thinking. You have two candidates who are nothing but extreme in their thinking. You got one guy wanting to build cities on the moon and the other guy who wants to take away womens rights. You may truly want to re-evaluate the term a true Stateman.
"Statesman"
Newt, you will probably win Georgia....after all you have the "Cain" stumping with you....both of you womanizing dumbos. If you were to get the GOP nomination....duh, I wonder who you would choose as VP....
"King Kong" that's who.
Definition of the word poor is black. Whoopeee Goldburger said it best...................
I would like to see the fig win a couple more. Its great fun and good for the economy
NEUTRON GETRICH = ZOMBIE POLITICAL CANDIDATE
