Gingrich criticizes Obama's apology to Afghans over Quran burning

SPOKANE, Wash. – Newt Gingrich criticized the Obama administration for apologizing to Afghan leaders after Qurans were burned at a military base.

“The president apologized for the burning, but I haven't seen the president demand that the government of Afghanistan apologize for the killing of two young Americans,” Gingrich told roughly 500 people at the Bing Crosby Theater here Thursday.

The Afghans, Gingrich believes, "do not deserve the apology of the United States” after an Afghan soldier shot two American troops at a protest that followed the desecration of the holy books.

“If Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, doesn't feel like apologizing, then we should say ‘goodbye and good luck.’ We don't need to be here risking our lives and wasting our money on somebody who doesn't care,” the former House speaker said.

Karzai’s office said Thursday that it wants NATO to put on trial those who burned the holy books.

The demonstrations began three days ago after people witnessed copies of the Muslim holy book being burned in a garbage pile at Bagram Air Field. Military officials said the burning was a mistake. The apology from the Obama administration came after the two Americans were killed.

Gingrich has been unrelenting in criticizing Barack Obama’s foreign policies. At his campaign event in Spokane, Gingrich called him “the greatest national security disaster that we've had in my lifetime."

Qurans periodically wear out and no longer are a fit vessel to carry "sacred word". When that happens, it is perfectly acceptable to burn them or to bury them in a respectful way. There appears to be a deeper anger there. Muslims are not protesting across the world. I suspect many in Afganistan feel disrespected and dishonored and that goes far beyond Quran burning.

Hmmm...Afghans have been fighting "foreigners" who have "occupied" their country - for good or evil - for hundreds of years. Time to leave.

Gingrich never has understood culture and international peacemaking. He ought to apologize to the three women he has used and the American people on whom he forced his "Contract" when they did not want it. Gingrich needs to go dove hunting with Dick Cheney, since he doesn't mind losing face.

This is the USA we're talking about, not a class of 3rd graders. He did it first! is not the way a great country handles things. I spent 24 years as an active duty Marine and situations like this in foreign countries is very common. We're better than that, and Afganistan is not the only country watching and listening. Gingrich is stupidly wrong, and it's disgusting that people like him, Sanitorium, and Romney even speak. We don't have to go in and blow the ship out of everybody we have a problem with, even if we can.

Thank God for a President who uses diplomacy. There is nothing wrong with diplomacy in order to save the lives of our troops when we are in another country. We can not afford to fight everybody all the time. I pray we will have our troops home soon. In the mean time anything to keep them safe including an apology. One apology to save many is much better than arrogance and the death of many more. It takes time to remove our troops and bring them home, in the mean time, the GOP should just hush, they are not doing anything to help with their foolishness. Proverbs 8:13

                    Common,

Obamas signifies a number of people named Obama, not a contraction of "Obama is." To get the latter, you must use an apostrophe. With so little knowledge about English grammar, you should be a bit more chary about calling anyone else an idiot.

Michael, you are a fool....grammar has absolutely nothing to do with how a person feels about anyone else including Obama. But then as I said before:

                    To err is human,

To blame it on someone else is a democrat.

You fit the the model perfectly.

Maybe Republicans think that President Obama should have gone over and kissed the prince!! That's what George Bush would have done. The people who you claim died because of the apology would be much, much more if we had said nothing. But i know, we should just go over and blow the hell out of them, right? right wing.

GCal, the "stupidity" is thinking that the leader of our nation should react like a gradeschooler to a complex international situation like this! Adults take responsibility for their mistakes ... adult leaders accept that responsibility on behalf of those they lead. Our soldiers made a mistake, and our president has taken on the burden of their error. THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE AFGHANIS, or what they do, THIS IS ABOUT US and who we are as a nation. I, for one, do not want my country seen as the equivalent of a petulant, immature, schoolyard bully that is more concerned about "bein' tuff" than being responsible and mature! Yes, the gunman should be held accountable (some sources say he is already dead), but whether the Afghanis take a civil approach to this or not, WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT, so take your knee jerk analyses of the "stupidity" of those with more level heads than yours and go back to your World of Warcraft game ... if you hurry, you might be able to really "wup up" on some o' them bad guys that don't look or think like you...

                              1. Where did you get the figure that there has been 500% increase in the US casualty rate? From a reliable source, or from one of your talking heads, or are you just passing gas?

                              2. If there has been high casualties, might it be because of the higher number of troops after Obama's surge or the attempt actually to engage in real battles against the Taliban instead of just allowing too few soldiers to lolligag about? Do you really want to return to Bush's approach of not fighting a war that is not counted on the debt ledger of the United States?

Michael.....get it through your intellectual brain....the reason we went into Afghan was to kill or capture Osama Bin Laden. Once that was done, everything thereafter is on the shoulders of Obama, like it or not.

This whole situation is so distressing. When will he apologize to Christians for the mass murders of our Christian brothers and sisters at the hands of the muslims. He can proclaim at the top of his lungs that he is a decent and moral Christian, but his actions make a clear and resounding statement where his allegiance lies. I hope with all of my heart that I am wrong. Dearest Jesus, the Son of the Living God, please give sight to all of my dear brothers and sisters that are so blind. No one can impose his/her will on another. It takes an inner conversion of the heart. I just pray that my dear fellow Americans understand the peril (spiritually) that we are in.

                                    People of the Dark,

And when will you apologize for your rank stupidity? 1. Presidents don't apologize to those who give their lives in the service of their country; they applaud their personal sacrifices. 2. Even if apologies were warranted, why apologize to the families of Christians only? Oh, I forgot, for people like you, there are no Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhists, Taoists or atheists who serve this country as soldiers.

Although we're a country with people who have a wide variety of religious faiths and beliefs, it's always and only about me and my religion; we are entitled to ignore all other faiths because "America is a Christian nation." Let's spell out the words that apply here: r-e-l-i-g-i-g-i-o-u-s b-i-g-o-t-r-y and a-u-t-h-o-r-i-t-i-a-n-i-s-m.

I think ole Newter's biggest problem with the Obama apology is the fact that he made one.

Gingrich isn't exactly famous for apologizing for his crimes or even admitting that 300+ ethics violations more or less disqualifies him from holding public office at any level. If he is willing to embezzle like he did then would you want him working for you, especially in a position where he could embezzle millions if not billions in tax payer dollars?

It's so enlightening to be lectured on morals by a man who lied to and cheated two wives, a man who paid $300,000 in fines as he was jettisoned from power by his own colleagues for his ethical defalcations, a man for whom deceit and impiety comes so naturally. As the wearisome cast of characters called the GOP candidates like Gingrich parade their inanities, half-baked lies and false arguments, I invoke a question once asked of a Republican maniac from years past: "Mr. Gingrich, have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you no sense of decency?"

I think Newt is already at the moonbase. Back before the U.S. got involved in Lybia, he raked Obama over the coals for not getting involved. After the U.S. got involved, he raked Obama over the coals for getting involved. All he cares about is being against whatever it is the Democrats happen to be in favor of. If the Senate put forward a plan to stop spending, shrink the Federal government by 90%, ban abortion, go back to the gold standard, and go to war with Iran, Newt would change his tune about fiscal and social conservatism, and be against going to war with Iran.

Its just a book like any other book. America needs to just leave Afghanistan and regularly blow terrorists up with drones for target practice and Drone flight training. Afghanistan is garbage the whole of middle east is a sewer. It's time for America to move on to more important things and just let them people keep killing each other.

                                                      Lol.

But IF Newt was President and someone burned the Bible, he'd be pushing that button and nuking them.

Funny, funny Bible thumping Right. Funny as in sad. Well funny as in HA HA too. But mostly sad.

I wish someone would get a big pile of Qurans, Bibles, and every other so called "holy book" and burn the whole lot of them. God belief only serves to divide us and is nothing but childish, fairytale nonsense. All we get is this lousy, temporary physical life folks; the time for the human race to grow up and face reality is long overdue.

How many Americans have died protecting the American flag over the past 200 years? Well every time these animals burn our flag I expect to see them on trial!!!!

Burning Qurans, burning American flags, BIG HAIRY DEAL! Qurans are paper, flags are cloth, if someone wants to burn them to symbolically state that they don't like Islam or don't like America, well whoopdee freakin' doo. Overreacting to symbolic statements that harm no one is immature. There will always be people who don't respect Islam and every other religion; there will always be people who don't respect America and every other country too. Grow up world!
