NEW YORK – Jon Huntsman may have endorsed Mitt Romney, but the former GOP presidential candidate on Thursday called for a "third party movement" to freshen up the current presidential race.
“We’re going to have problems politically until we get some sort of third party movement or some kind of alternative voice out there that can put forward new ideas," Huntsman said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
“Someone’s going to step up at some point and say we’ve had enough of this,” he said. “The real issues are not being addressed, and it’s time that we put forward an alternative vision, a bold thinking. We might not win, but we can certainly influence the debate.”
He suggested the leader of an alternative movement could be “a whole bunch of Americans out there that can’t find a place politically."
Huntsman, the former Utah governor and former ambassador to China, backed Romney on Jan. 16, just after dropping out of the race in South Carolina. Thursday morning, Huntsman qualified his endorsement, saying that he is "not a surrogate for anybody" but does believe that Romney is the best choice "given the lay of the land today."
“All I can say is I’m looking at the political marketplace and the duopoly is tired and we’re stuck in a rut,” Huntsman said.
Huntsman's involvement in the Romney campaign has been minimal compared to other well-known surrogates like fellow former candidate Tim Pawlenty, who has appeared with and on behalf of Romney on the campaign trail.
Huntsman, who was elected to Ford Motor Co.’s board of directors, was quick to add that he is not interested in being the standard-bearer for his proposed alternative movement.
"That ain't gonna be me, by the way," he said, quashing any possibility of a comeback run for the White House this cycle. "I'm not interested in that."
Huntsman may have ruled out rejoining the campaign trail, but he has supporters pining for his return. Americans Elect, a nonpartisan and nonprofit organization drafting presidential candidates online, currently lists Huntsman as its second most popular candidate after Republican candidate Ron Paul.
Next month, Americans Elect plans to hold an online primary to select a candidate and then place that name on every state ballot as a third-party alternative. Huntsman has repeatedly ruled out running as an independent.

It is a shame - the only member of the current GNOP party who made a lick of sense was drummed out for being to rational...
History is NOT going to take kindly to when the modern day whacko's mainstreamed CRAZY!
Careful what you wish for RWNJ's... lol
Hey which one of you guys is Mohamed Shohan? I know a few of you Libs are from Connecticut....
STAMFORD -- A North Stamford father trying to make his pre-teenaged son listen to President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech last month was arrested on a warrant Wednesday and accused of striking his son with a coffee mug when the youth would not pay attention.
Mohamed Shohan, 49, of 55 Mather Road, Stamford, was charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a child.

Better yet little buddy - WHAT are you drinking this evening?
Typical Libbie response, WCA: when you can't answer the question, resort to denigration or name-calling. Ah ha ha ha!!!
Feisty:
I beg to differ. These RWNJ's have been a part of our political landscape since the first settlers set foot here. Their names change, but the warped ideology, the misogyny, and the hatred of anything they are not remains. They were the Puritans, they were the witch hunters, the Know-nothings, the KKK, the creationists, the anti-science crowd. They will never go away until we stamp out stupidity, and unfortunately if there's one thing they've figured out, it's how to breed.
Proved my point, D.Walker!! AH ha ha ha!!!
All hours of the day and night, eh Red?
"The hatred of anything they are not" explains YOU to a tee, D. Walker!!!!!! You can't stand anyone that is not like you! Ah ha ha ha!!!!! Have you ever looked in a mirror???
We all notice YOU "can't answer the question" either Pike....
Just a typical TEA-RNC response.
AH ha ha ha!!!
pike lake the words you use to describe D. Walker really fit you better!
OK, I'll bite: what question would you like me to answer, Stupid????
Smitty, now THAT's funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Top o' the evening WCA. Just back from HH. It's me and Sailor Jerry from here on in.
Great question yesterday about gas prices. It jumped $.07 just today here - $4.40.
So Chevy sells 600 Volts and 70k silverados. Obviously the p/u sales will tank, and even if they triple Volt sales they still lose badly.
So is Detroit officially all done now?
So Blue, so bad.
ut hey at least everything is coming up roses in Illinois for Feisty, what with all them tax increases, right Feisty?
You bet.
Jon Huntsman may have endorsed Mitt Romney, but the former GOP presidential candidate on Thursday called for a "third party movement" to freshen up the current presidential race.
Jon Huntsman endorsed Romney just to do his "duty"as a mormon. He hates Romney's guts and knows that Romney is a vulture.
The only thing that I do not like about Huntsman is that he likes Paul Ryan, and that makes me vomit. Otherwise, he is pretty decent. At least he did not sign any "pledges"(Translation": A** KISSING) with Norquist, and has some common sense.
Why the very same one YOU referred to Pike.
Better yet little buddy, Stupid... WHAT are you smoking tonight?
Get it????
Hey Feisty, this ones for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBBVZVeHNz0
Hey Spanky,
I saw today where GE is forcing employees to buy Volts. That's just sad.
One thing nobody here seems to realize is that the Auto Industry makes money on trucks and SUV's.
People talk about CHryslers comeback but fail to mention it was on the back of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
In 2008 when the Auto companies went in the tank a big reason was in fact $4+ gas. People stop buying the vehicles that the companies make money on.
Funny thing is they don't buy the small cars either, cause they don't want them. They just hold on to what they have and the industry tanks.
Trust me GM and Chrysler are not strong enough to get through this again.
Gas went up 30 cents yesterday here in Michigan.
Good times.
Why thanks for asking Pike....
Of course, the answer is certainly nothing as potent as YOU are obviously smoking....
That's a little awkward for Huntsman, isn't it?
I guess his loyalty is worth about as much as his toenail clippings.
Jo Ling Kent is a known far-left liberal. Her reports are generally biased and have a hidden agenda
WCA-Why should we answer for random wackos on the left, when you don't answer for your wackos running for president.
Go away huntsman. People don't vote for third parties.... the main parties triangulate the middle.....aLso, why does everyone think that some sweater wearing ambassador is fit to be president. I also imagine this vain, smug dude would want to be in charge of it.
Lets have a third party candidate. Hell lets have a fourth party candidate to. You righties would really be at wits end. You already act like there are 3 party's in the republican party. The moderates, the conservatives and the nut job tea baggers.
Are we witnessing the GOP experiencing Schumpeter's creative destruction right before our eyes? I hope so because it could result in a healthy GOP center right party which would more closely match the national political temperament.
A coalition of the Uber Wealthy, Evangelical Christians and Rednecks does not make a viable base for a representative political party.
Its a shame Huntsmen dropped out. Between him and Paul there's no real sensibe Republican choice.
Now is not the time for a third party. Let's get Hussein out of office first.
Let's get Hussein out of office first
You must be a vet with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. You are not in Iraq any more
IRESPOND, now THAT's funny!!!! - - NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a shame a Huntsmen dropped out. Between him and Paul, there's really no other good Republican choice.
We heard you the first time - - LOL!!! I know what you mean.....too bad there's no choice whatsoever for Democrats. With Hussein as your only choice - - how sad is THAT???
A lot better than what you get to pick from!
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
OOOOOOOoooo, Smitty, "I know you are, but what am I????" Ah ha ha ha!!!!!
pike So what. Don't care.
PikeLake: We like our choice in Barack Obama...thank you...It's a shame you don't like yours..
Nobody the GOP puts up can win over Barack...
Rock On Obama...right back into that Oval Office in 2013.
That is some hubris from Huntsman. If he cared about other parties adding to the process, then why did he endorse Romney right after dropping out instead of waiting to see if other options emerged? Are we to believe that it was a deliberate decision or just politically convenient to endorse the frontrunner?
Think Progress:
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum (R) was challenged on multiple pieces of his record at last night’s CNN Republican presidential debate in Arizona, but his answer to why he voted for No Child Left Behind, the comprehensive education reform bill signed by President George W. Bush, drew the most criticism. “I have to admit, I voted for that, it was against the principles I believed in, but you know, when you’re part of the team, sometimes you take one for the team, for the leader, and I made a mistake,” Santorum said.
ROMNEY: He talked of this of being ‘taking for one the team.’ I wonder which team he was taking it for. My team is the American people, not the insiders in Washington, and I’ll fight for the people of America, not special interests. … He talked about voting for No Child Left Behind, even though that was against his principles.
While slamming Santorum as a “Washington insider,” Romney conveniently neglected to mention his own support for the law, which he highlighted as an example of where he disagrees with many conservatives in a 2008 interview on Fox’s Hannity & Colmes:
ROMNEY: I’d say that not all conserves line up with me on a few of the positions I have. For instance, I support having a Department of Education. I support No Child Left Behind. I think it’s improving our schools. I agree that we need to give more flexibility to states in applying it, but I support it.

I do believe another candidate is in order for the GOP.
Bloomberg News:
Even a decade after former President Bill Clinton banned US companies from trading with Iran, Koch Industries continues to cut deals with a nation that was considered by America to be a threat to national security.
While working its way up to being one of the world’s largest privately held companies, Koch Industries got that way by help of illegal transactions with Iran, reveals a new report by Bloomberg. The report released today suggests that the corporation ran by billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch made millions of dollars worth of deals by selling petrochemical equipment to Iran, clearly violating US sanctions.
Washington Monthly:
From 1999 through 2003, Koch Industries was assessed more than $400 million in fines, penalties and judgments. In December 1999, a civil jury found that Koch Industries had taken oil it didn’t pay for from federal land by mismeasuring the amount of crude it was extracting. Koch paid a $25 million settlement to the U.S.
Phil Dubose, a Koch employee who testified against the company said he and his colleagues were shown by their managers how to steal and cheat — using techniques they called the Koch Method. […]
For six decades around the world, Koch Industries has blazed a path to riches — in part, by making illicit payments to win contracts, trading with a terrorist state, fixing prices, neglecting safety and ignoring environmental regulations. At the same time, Charles and David Koch have promoted a form of government that interferes less with company actions.

I sure hope the media is in attendance.
The rats are beginning to jump ship. Who's going to be the Indy candidate? Paul? Huntsman? Trump? Hey, I know who! How about "Joe the Plummer"!!!!!
Plummer/Palin 2012
LOL
Plummer/Palin 2012
That is just as intellectual as it gets with the GOP.
I wonder what would be the first thing that they do as President and Vice-President?
Oh Yeah! They are going to take empy beer cans to the front lawn and practice target shooting!
Sorry folks, Joe the Plumber is running for Congress. Not my district, thankfully, but we are in that media market. Showed him going door to door over the weekend. Maybe next time??? ha ha
Sorry about the clumsy double post, but lighten up, I am new to this blog, but not the political arena. Who said I was a Dem. I think the whole f'ing governement needs to be reconsidered, which would make me a Gingrich supporter (which I am not). The Paul story of less government, less war and more fiscal responsibility appeals to me.
So please try to not paint folks into a corner based on a single comment which had no real bearing on political affiliaton.
Thanks
Sorry, Knee Jerk, that's why I put a "LOL" - - I know this blog can be frustrating. The "LOL" was meant to "lighten up." And I didn't call you a Dem. You made a sweeping statement about Republican candidates and I made a sweeping statement about the Democrats only choice. No offense, KJ!!!
Hey Pike, Maybe you should run as the Indy. I'll vote for you.....
Pike Lake/Joe the Plummer 2012
This ad is approved and payed for by the commitee of Wassila Hillbilly's!
GT Again LOL LOL!!!!
President Obama's apology for burning the Q'urans does not make him a lesser person or leader. As a nation, we need to learn to be more magnanimous. My son is serving in Afghanistan and I welcome any comments that allow him to come home safely.
Is he off his medications?? Again! What a joke America!
The lunatic fringe of the Republican Party is the party. Sane Republicans are now on the fringe and are jumping off the the circus wagon as it careens out of control. The country does not need a third party, it needs a second party, one that isn't registered as a hate group intent on destroying democracy and equal rights.
I love when people make a pitch for a third party right now, then clearly the Tea Party is a third party, but instead of solving things like people predict, its made things worse.
Buddy Roemer has Congressional, gubernatorial and business experience, and appears to be an energetic, populist contender--the kind of person the Republicans ought to put up against Barack Obama.
Put Mr. Roemer in the debates--no downside risk, much upside potential.
I completely agree - Buddy Roemer is a good man and would have been an excellent choice - nobody would give him a chance however- no big money behind him. Can't win without PAC's. We need reform.

Funny, no Democrat has come forward to challenge Obama. Despite all of his failures of leadership. I am sure Obama put out the word that his Chicago friends have ways of discouraging anyone who wants to try. So much for democracy from the Democrat party.
Funny peculiar or funny ha ha? Just because the Republicans offer themselves up as lambs to the slaughter, doesn't mean the Dems have to be that dumb.
I would like to see a third party step in. I am looking for some of the following traits.
Fiscal Responsibility: "How do I pay for it?", should be one of the first questions answered before the government takes on a new spending initiatives.
Education is Key to Success and Equality: Give someone fish and they are feed for the day, but teach them to fish an they are feed for a lifetime. One of the greatest treasures in the country is our children. Our children need to learn to compete in a global market. The best way to give them that edge is to provide an education. The government paid for my education and I am happy to pay taxes to pay for others education.
We all make mistakes, but when we make mistakes it is our responsibility to fix them: I am sure each candidate has made mistakes. I am also sure each party has made mistakes. Making mistakes is human and we are no less than human. Sometime the mistakes of the past are what teaches us the most valuable lessons. So admit when you make a mistake. Read up on history to see mistakes others have made. Do your best to fix those mistakes and move on.
Accept that the US is a melting pot: The US is a melting pot of many different religions and ethnic groups. Even though each candidate comes from their own religion and culture it is important to remember others exist. Laws need to be written carefully so they reflect the common view of a majority so the country remains united instead of divided.
Just my opinion. Other opinions are welcome. I would like to see Buddy Roemer actually in the debates.
Americans Elect seems to represent a new way for all of us to participate in the political process with equal power. The more of us who join and submit our views and candidate preferences the sooner we can say goodbye to dysfunctional party politics! Huntsman and other potential nominees that are independent minded and owe nothing to the entrenched powers deserve our support. It is time we reclaim some power over the political process. This may be our chance to make a difference as individuals.
Huntsman naturally would support Romney being of the same feather and church. His talk of having a third party is focused on taking votes away from the Romney's rivals which could also take away from Romney too. Huntsman should just be quiet and stop being a sore loser as he's of no help to anyone in the party.
Now a Democrat running against Obama would be interesting, Hillary are you there? She could probably beat the tar of him given his past three years of no gain with a lot of pain.
"She could probably beat the tar of him given his past three years of no gain with a lot of pain." Stock market up to pre Bush-Republican-Crash levels. Employment down month after month. New foreign alliances and cooperation, etc...............No gain? Where do you live, Syria?
Really, stock market booming but how about Main Street with higher inflation, out of control gas prices, unemployment still in the dumps with millions still out of work , foreclosures still a disaster and a unpayable national debt and still growing thanks to a useless Congress and a failed Presidential leadership.
Which rock do you live under?
I agree it is time to boost up American's Elect.
And Obama says "Praise the Lord!" A third party is just what is needed. Ross Perot all over again. Tonight there is dancin' in the streets in Washington, D.C. (or at least in the White House).
Then please PLEASE tell the GOP to provide a candidate that actually demonstrates some knowledge of finances.
If the GOP had any sense they would have rallied behind Jon Huntsman, he was the only intelligent one in the group of crazies.
Jo Ling Kent, did you notice that your article only received 61 comments up to this comment? Jon Huntsman has a great idea, a third party called Middle Class Americans ! I'm sure he won't want to see this, but he's right, the American People of the United States want their country back from the CORPORATES OF THE UNITED STATES, who aren't even mentioned in our CONSTITUTION!
If he would only join our President Obama to declare Oil Corporations UNCONSTITUTIONAL, because they are causing major INFLATION for ALL OTHER PRODUCTS that the American People must have to survive! THAT IS NOT DEMOCRACY! IT IS ONLY CORPORATE GREED! NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS! Let's get the Supreme Court to rule it UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
Enough is enough! It's time for change, and that time is NOW! Not later, BUT RIGHT NOW!!!
I'm a Democrat/Independent, but would have seriously considered voting for Jon Huntsman. He was the most rational and had the best handle on international issues of any of the current candidates. Since the Republican Party has been hijacked it will be awhile before any intelligent serious candidates dare run for office. Jeb Bush for example does't want to be seen with these idiots, nor really does a number of others.
It's a sad commentary on the state of the Republican Party if nobody out there supported the only candidate with a brain: Jon Huntsman.
His views on social matters is archaic, but he was the only one of the entire bunch who could ever see beyond the edge of the Pacific Ocean, where our REAL potential adversaries are.
Like William-360414, I'm an independent-leaning Democrat, but I think we're also educated persuadables, which should be the Holy Grail of ANY candidate with a vision.
None of the candidates left has a snowball's chance in Phoenix of converting any mainstream educated persuadable, which is the only way the Republicans can win.
Huntsman is like Romney a guy that speaks with fork tongue, just like Obama. Obama promised everything to all people. He would lower the rising rivers and bow down to Kings and Dictators. Huntsman falls into this operation for Obama.
China is the language Huntsman speaks and he would truly make a great communit as would Obama but I believe they already have achieved that status.
This Country is only in a rut because of people like Huntsman, Romney, Gingrich, Obama and Santorum. Americans should not want any of these losers to be our next President. Ron Paul is the only one offering real hope and change.
Obama is a toad that wished he was a frog. The princess took one look at the toad and Michelle told the princess I will take him. Ugly begats ugly!!!
They have this little kid thanking Obama for lobbyist that someone told her helps her. Will she be thanking him when she is paying back the 5 trillon dollars, he wants her to pay back when she is older. lol
What this little kid does not know is Obama sold his soul along time ago to the devil lobbyist in Washington. He was not going to have lobbyist in his cabinet or do business with any of them. Remembering this liar spun his yarn of how he would be better then any present or past President. He is not only a joke but has more lobbyist writng bills like the Obamacare.
American people break free from your daily routine and get informed about Obama. The truth will set you free and you will see this smiling jackal for what he really is.
