Paul camp hits Santorum in new TV ad

The latest sign of the emerging Mitt Romney/Ron Paul bro-mance: The Paul campaign is airing a new TV ad in Michigan that hits Rick Santorum on the very points that the Romney camp has been raising (voted to raise the debt ceiling, increase spending).

Do note that this Paul ad is being released BEFORE Paul even starts campaigning in Michigan (he'll do so in the coming days) and as his team focuses more on the upcoming caucus contests (like Idaho and North Dakota) instead of the Arizona and Michigan contests, which don't appear to factor into the Paul campaign's delegate plans.

After all, Arizona is winner take all, and Michigan is winner take all per congressional district.

Per NBC's Anthony Terrell, the ad will also air in the upcoming Super Tuesday states.

The transcript:
Is this dude serious?
Fiscal conservative, really?
Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling 5 times
Doubled the size of the Department of Education
Then supported the biggest entitlement expansion since the ‘60’s.
Not groovy.
Santorum voted to send billions of our tax dollars to dictators in North Korea and Egypt.
And even hooked Planned Parenthood up with a few million bucks.
Rick Santorum a fiscal conservative?
Fake.

Discuss this post

It appears Santorum voted to fund planned parenthood ! Didn't a "certain someone" work for a Doctor as a nurse who did abortions. And lived with someone else for fours years before they were married? Interesting !

I tend to wonder if the GOP actually thought they had a chance this year of winning the presidency.

It looks more like an election they have silently conceded to the president but are testing the waters for the 2016 campaign and what they'll campaign on.

None of these candidates have a chance against Obama. But the GOP has to field someone, so who will the sacrificial lamb wind up being?

They did have a chance until they started down the Extreme right wing path. There stuff scares the folks in the middle and brings back the the first days in America when a women had to wear a scarlet letter.

Santorium reminds me of the Unforgiving pastor who has something to hide and uses his power to rant just to cover his mistakes.

Nice advertisement...I hope it pulls the wool off the eyes of the Santorum supporters. Such cannibals, those GOP candidates...

I've been boycotting Exxon-Mobil for years, nomoresameo.

Rick "lets just dismiss science" Santorum would've called the invention of the wheel an act of satan had he been alive waay back then. That "thought" process is what defines many conservatives...fear of knowledge, the future and critical thinking.

I am so glad that you have been boycotting Exxon/Mobil for years, but the statistic prove that despite the boycotting, Exxon/Mobil continues to achieve huge profits. And if you truly are boycotting, I hope you have researched all the products that Exxon/Mobil petroleum is used to manufacture (under different corporate logo's but originating with Exxon)

Is this dude serious? No, not Rick Santorum - we already know he's deadly serious. I meant Ron Paul. The transcript is nice, but it doesn't show you the picture of Bigfoot at the end that goes with the "Fake" sign. So to recap, our presidential election process has been reduced to "Is this dude serious?", "Not groovy", and Bigfoot.

And the worst part is, it's still only February. Sigh.....

So Ron Paul is assisting Mitt Romney in Michigan to destroy Santorum with ads?

Why can't Mitt do it himself? Is he too afraid of carpet bombing like he did with Gingrich? Is he running out of donors? What has he spent so far in this primary season. About a gazillion dollars? Is it working?

I wonder how Ron Paul supporters feel about this? They mustn't be too happy about Paul helping Romney.

Every candidate has had their moment of glory as the frontrunner and Mitts has consistently held onto second place. If Paul attacks Santorum, he will leapfrog over Mitts and become the new frontrunner. Why would he attack Mitts?

A week from today will be veeery interesting.

Willard is going to be the nominee - Rove $ company has already decided - so it would seem to behoove Paul and Satan Santorum to work together....

I don't think Ron Paul forgot that old adage. Perhaps it is more that since Santorum is picking up so much speed so quickly, Paul seems him as more of a threat. ?

And if this is heading for a brokered convention, the popcorn manufacturers are going to make out like bandits with the profits!

I believe the Republican nominating Convention WILL definitly be a "brokered convention" because the GOP is broken..... "broker" than anything I've seen in ages; ergo, brokered convention.

Mesa, Arizona (CNN) - In a whispering campaign not ready to go public, some senior Republicans are so anxious about the state of the GOP race they are actually considering the unheard of: a scenario that would lead to another candidate entering the Republican primary race, and potentially an open convention.

They are not unhappy enough, however, to go on the record calling for another candidate to enter the fray. In fact, when pressed, many Republicans say the chatter about another candidate is inevitable in this long and inconclusive primary process.

I can see why!! I would do the same thing!!

I was thinking this morning about why I loathe Santorum. It isn't his "values" I object to, I mean, who doesn't believe parents need to educate kids at home. Even if they go to school, you still have to read to them, practice doing math, and talk to them about the dangers of casual sex. I don't want kids having abortions.

What I hate about Santorum is he lies about the President. He misrepresnts the Democrats' position on religious freedom and contraceptives. If Santorum is such a "good" man, why can't he make rational, truthful arguments in competing for the presidency? Why does he have to lie?

            Amy -

If he was "only" lying, that would be loathsome enough, but in the end, it would really make him just another politician.

The fact that he honestly believes that he is morally superior - not just to the President, but to the majority of his fellow Americans, including many in his own party - is what makes him dangerous.

Amy, you are very level headed and I like that, + the fact that my wife's name is Amy. Anyways, I agree with you 100%, however please do the same when Obama lies. Like back in December when he said not a single Republican voted for the Payroll Tax Cut, when in fact 20 Republicans voted for it. What's even more astonishing is the fact that there was only 1 Democrat that voted for it. Or how he says that we are drilling for more oil than ever before...

I appreciate your nice words. You must be a Romney supporter :)

Politifacts, the non-partisan fact checking website, says Obama was correct when he said that "right now, American oil production is the highest that it’s been in eight years." They said the government doesn't play a huge role in increasing oil production, never-the-less, the statement is true.

Well said, JoAnne. You are absolutely right that Santorum is dangerous. He would destroy public education, the environment, health care, and freedom of religion if he had his way.

Ron Paul is ridiculous. I'm surprised he has the support he does among Republicans. Isolationist, wants to legalize all drugs, wants to basically dismantle the gov't, endorsement from Snoop Doggy Dogg. I don't know who's worse, he or Santorum. Obama kills them both on National Security and almost any other issue. I don't think these candidates are serious and I don't think the base is serious about them. The Republicans are only concerened about winning the house and senate. Obama's running against the economy, if it's bad Yosemite Sam could beat him.

The only way that Obama beats anyone on National Security stems from the fact that nobody has had the guts to attack America on American soil under his term in office. He is systematically dismantling our military under the guise of removing us from unfunded wars.

Whether you agree or disagree with his politics, if there's anyone who's still wondering why Ron Paul doesn't have a better shot at the Republican presidential nomination this year - or any year - here's the video that I think Tim meant to link to:
