Discuss this post

This is the thread where I give David Gregory feedback on Meet The Press.

Last Sunday's MTP: worst show ever! First, you had Paul Ryan and Chris Van Hollen on, and you let Ryan blather on unimpeded while Van Hollen's audio was scratchy and distracting. I know it's not your fault there were technological problems, but you should have pushed back on Ryan when you realized Van Hollen wasn't getting equal opportunity to refute his lies.

BUT WORST OF ALL: When Ed Gillepsie expressed faux distress at the Obama administration forcing the Catholic Church to pay for abortions NO ONE at that round table confronted him with this lie. What the hell does "Meet The Press" mean, if you aren't interacting with the political bozos, and confronting them? Why are you allowing misinformation to stand? I'll have you know I've heard two acquaintances express the "fact" that HCR forces churches to cover abortions - because the press in this country allows misinformation to spread like kudzu. Do your job! Stand up for the facts!

MR. ED GILLESPIE: This is about whether or not a church and members of a church in an archdiocese like Washington, D.C., where we are here today, can be compelled to pay for something, abortion and sterilization and yes, contraception--should be compelled to pay for something they believe to be morally wrong and in fact a sin. That is the, that is the issue at hand and I believe at the end of the day, this is going to cost President Obama a lot of votes

MR. GREGORY: Mm-hmm.

I recommend you find a place of worship to attend on Sunday in your community and turn the idiot's box off.

My church is just down the street. I make it there, just five minutes late, most Sundays.

If no one at the table dissented, perhaps it was because no one lied.

BTW - what does MTP have to do with this thread?

right on! and dont let buck naked push his theology down your throat.

many catholic institutions follow this law as it is written in 26 states. they just dont want to pay the fee. we and all churches must follow the law, for it is the law which protects their rights, but it does not allow for discrimination or for the church represenatives to break the law.

i agree, meet the preess has turned into a free mike for the right

Gillespie was making a general point, regarding the Church AND, as he said, "members of a church". The issue of the moment is forcing churches to pay for contraception.

But it is also undeniably true that some taxpayers , who are , as Gillespie said, "members of a church", are forced to pay for abortions with tax dollars. We subsidize the abortion mill known as Planned Parenthood.

and we subsidise for the government to protect religious freedom, but that doesnt mean they get to break the law, or to discriminate against others!

            Bob in Va:

Bullspit. YOUR tax dollars are paying for examinations and counseling and all the other 97% of what pp does for the underprivileged who have no where else to go for the heathcare needs. MY tax dollars pay for the abortions, and I'm ok with that. Stop dictating to me what my tax dollars ought to pay for and I'll not tell you how stupid you are.

It is against the law for taxpayer funds to pay for abortions. The money the Congress allocates to Planned Parenthood is not used for abortions, it is used to provide women's healthcare services. When I was younger and worked as a waitress, retail store clerk and day care worker, I never had health insurance, and the only place I could get affordable gynecological care was Planned Parenthood. I don't know if you are aware, but young women need pap smears, contraceptive advice, treatment for STDs, yeast infections and other services related to reproductive health. If you don't want to support Planned Parenthood, then you should push for universal healthcare.

obviously bob in virgina you have never visited planned parenthood, nor do you have any idea what they do?

3% is abortions, and if they use fed funds they lose all fed monies?

if you dont believe in abortions dont have one, but dont shove your beliefs down anyones throat!

the church freedoms are protected by law , but it doesnt mean they can break the law or discriminate against others?

if you give any thought to the contraceptive discussion, you should realize that these free contraceptives will stop many pregnancies which will stop many future abortions?
