Gingrich: Defeating Obama is 'a duty of national security'

TULSA, Okla. -- Newt Gingrich said Monday a Republican win in November is "a duty of national security," taking his attack on President Barack Obama a step further on the day the country celebrates Presidents Day.

"Defeating Barack Obama becomes, in fact, a duty of national security," Gingrich told a crowd of about 4,000 people on the campus of Oral Roberts University. "Because the fact is, he is incapable of defending the United States."

Gingrich, who frequently refers to Obama as the "the most dangerous president in modern American history," again said the country is at risk "someday in your lifetime of losing an American city" from a terrorist attack.

The former House speaker, who wears a pin with the flag of George Washington on his lapel to remind him of the meaning of being commander-in-chief, was especially harsh on the Obama administration’s policies towards Iran and Israel.

Evan Vucci / AP

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich speaks during a town hall at Oral Roberts University on Monday.

Obama, Gingrich said on his first day in Oklahoma, "wants to unilaterally weaken the United States, he wants to cut the aid to Israel for its anti-ballistic missile defense, he refuses to take Iran seriously."

The rally at ORU started just a couple hours after the White House announced that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, would meet with Obama early next month.

Gingrich noted, “No American can second-guess an Israeli prime minister on the matter of survival,” and said his message to the Iranians would be simple.

"You need to stop your (nuclear) program before you get hit because you should be under no illusions, if you refuse to stop your program, long before it is completed you are going to get hit and we are not in any way going to stop the Israelis from defending themselves,’” he said.

Gotta go - need to get some of that fantastic $4.25 per gallon gas.

Thanks Obama, you are just great.

Gosh I remember all the way back to 2008, the last time I got hit for $4.00 per gallon. Then it was all the fault of the president - a greedy no good "oil man."

So does this mean Obama is a no good greedy SOB in bed with big oil?

Stop blaming Obama for paying that much in oil. The reason why we are paying that much is because of the fluctuating markets. The markets fluctuate every time that asinine people like Santorum or Rommney threat to put troops in Iran. That is what the stock market does: acts on events around the world or RUMORS.

On the other hand, Big Oil has NO REASON to be charging us that much. That A****E Paul Ryan not only protects them to death. He gives the subsidies and they only pay 22 % in taxes as a corporation, the same as small business that do not get subsidies.

Do your homework and stop writing lies and blasting Obama as a hobby. Bowling is much better.

The high gas prices are a result of Iran, not Obama,,, More of a fault of religious conservatives & neocons

Decades of right wing threats & today's "Israel 1st, America Last" conservatives are pushing for Israel to attack them only made things worse

Blaming the gas price increase on Obama is more right wing dishonesty & electioneering rhetoric that just doesn't float

spanky you know as well as I do that the President has no power over the market. Drill baby drill is a lie. What oil thats produced here in America goes to the world market. So why the snide remark about Obama? Did that make you feel good to post that. When the thats not true. I don't have a lawyer edumakaction but I did know from grade school that a President can't control the market. The problem is the laws that were passed to allow oil speculation.

Maybe you can explain this in small words so a moron such as I can understand? We park the fifth fleet off the shores of Iran and shut down Iranian oil exports. Oil markets react by raising the price of crude. Cause and effect, I think this would justify a conclusion that whoever parked the fifth fleet off the coast of Iran caused the price of oil to go up. No?

Gingrich is a plus for the Republicans -- compared to Santorum.

Or should I say, less of a negative.

It looks like Obama/Biden in 2012.

The GOP candidates are idiots.

What happened to the GOP?

No way, an idiot like Santorum or Gingrich can get more than maybe 40% of the vote in the general, and that is being generous.

Romney could come a lot closer, but the GOP is so messed up, they can't hold their nose long enough to nominate him.

The GOP is dead. I think the Tea Party had more to do with their death than anything else.

Last Summer, when they were willing to destroy the economy over stupid things like taxing the rich, they signed their own death warrant.

Now that the dialog has become birth control, they are, what did the Munchkins say? " ...morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, undeniably, and reliably- dead!"

RIP the GOP. Tea Party bigots, you lose.

And Spanky, is that the best you can do? You are representative of most conservative bloggers these days -- all out of gas, with nothing intelligent to contribute to the debate.

Decades of crap from our right wing combined with more ignorant rants from the right supporting Israel has amplified the situition ------ Our conservatives with their stupid attacks against Islam made matters far worse.... Conservative candidates promise to attack Iran

Obama's sanctions against Iran I'm sure had some bearing on it, so did the UN oppositon to Syria, however because of his sanctions no bank will lend to Iran & they can't maintain the embargo. And you can't deny that our conservatives haven't been stirring the pot making things far worse

Oh silly liberals,

We were all here three, four, five years ago when gas prices spiked here and there and you all railed against Bush and his big oil buddies. But the truth is very clear Bush made attempts to increase capacity and refinery production while Obama has stifled it at every turn.

Obama owns the gas prices. He owns the unemployment rate. He owns the credit downgrade. He owns the increased poverty rate and the reliance on food stamps. He owns the further dependence of African Americans on government assistance.

Most importantly he owns the label of worst President ever!

You guys can't be that selectively stupid .... can you?

Have you forgotten Bush going to Congress and opening up off-shore drilling, how the prices dropped almost immediately .... how the price was something like $1.86 WHEN OBAMA TOOK OFFICE!

Obama touts all the energy being produced. The current production is the result of Bush's actions combined with drilling advances that Obama has not been able to cripple.

Obama wants high prices ..... "prices will necessarily skyrocket."

Obama's Secretary of Energy is on record wanting a $8 a gallon gas!

Obama wanted Cap and Trade, couldn't get the insanity passed, so has crippled the fossil energy industry through the EPA.

Obama has no foreign policy .... nothing ever happens in the Middle East, huh?

The largest sponsor of terrorism is on the verge of getting the bomb, the world clamps down and Iran cuts off oil to Europe .... duh.

Great planning Obama .. way to be on top of things.

Obama forbids a stupid, simple pipeline that would provide a great measure of security.

On and on and on and on......

Don't be so gutless, admit it ....You guys OWN THIS.

If you still refuse to recognize that this President has made us safer by ending the war in Iraq, drawing down Afghanistan, weakening AQ, bumping off Bin Laden, elevating and restoring America's standing in the world after President Bush decimated it;

If you are still in denial that this President has created the conditions for our economy to recover (making our country safer) WITHOUT ANY HELP FROM GOP CONGRESSIONALS;

Then - you Mr. Gingrich who is so wildly misinformed- have not the qualifications nor standing to make remarks about US foreign or domestic policy.

I can't believe that Newt Gingrich is actually saying that the President in charge of getting Osama Bin Laden dead. The President in charge of using Predator drones to kill US Citizens (accused of being terrorists) abroad without trial. The President who signed the authorization to have the military take and keep US Citizens abroad in custody indefinitely. THAT PRESIDENT is the one that Newt Gingrich is saying is the one who is making America less safe ?

bob-1805084, the reason gas prices tanked DURING the election in 2008 is because the Big Oil Companies were trying to influence the presidential election. They figured if they slashed gas prices it would make republicans look better and get them elected. It backfired and right after the election they started raising the prices and haven't stopped.

I expect Big Oil to try and influence the election AGAIN by raising gas prices in the hopes people will blame Obama and no re-elect him.

If Obama doesn't win a second term the Republicans WILL FINISH the job of DESTROYING AMERICA. They almost did it under Bush and want to complete it.

The President of the US (just like when Georgie boy was Prez) has NOTHING HE/SHE can do to affect the price of oil and gas. Period. You can be childish and blame the figurehead in office, but it only shows how much like a child you can be. Oil prices are the greatest "drug sell" going. No one I know can explain how the prices rise and fall. The bottom line is, between Obama and whomever gets elected over the next few decades, it will be important for the USA to release itself as much as possible from the OIL BOOB. its flammable crack!

Backhoser,

Obama couldn't even negotiate a presence in Iraq to insure our gains after Bush won the war. Stunning security ineptitude.

Drawing down Afghanistan?

Didn't Obama say Afghanistan was the right war, that it had to be won .... that he would win it? Now after losing American lives at monthly rate 5-6 times of Bush, he pulls out with nothing.

Heck the guys we have been fighting for now say that if it came down to a US conflict between the US and Pakistan .... they would side WITH PAKISTAN!

How could Obama have done worse .... seriously .... how could it have ended worse - the Taliban are back in charge for all effect or soon will be.

Elevating and restoring America's standing?

Bush won the war in Iraq. I guess I missed that one, after killing a hundred thousand Iraqis, allowing Al Qaeda into the country and creating a civil war where police can't even go to training without being bombed is a strange interpretation of winning. Maybe you are talking about the oil we get. It's news to me that we are out of Afghanistan also, but since Obama killed Osama we should be. Bush II has always been overly friendly with the muslims, why do you think they were able to do 911?

What you all seem to be missing is the fact that local, state and federal tax on gas. This "TAX PROFIT" is far larger than any of the oil companies and are the single highest cost to be associated with the price of gas. Fuel Tax Reform with lower taxes would do more than any other item in lowering the cost of gas.

Not as stupid as yo uthink

The withdrawal of American military forces from Iraq has been a contentious issue within the United States since the beginning of the Iraq War. As the war has progressed from its initial 2003 invasion phase to a multi-year occupation, U.S. public opinion has turned in favor of troop withdrawal. As of May 2007, 55 percent of Americans believed that the Iraq war was a mistake, and 51 percent of registered voters favored troop withdrawal.[2] In late April 2007, the U.S. Congress passed a supplementary spending bill for Iraq that sets a deadline for troop withdrawal, but President Bush vetoed this bill soon afterwards.[3][4] All US Forces are mandated to withdraw from Iraqi territory by December 31, 2011 under the terms of a bilateral agreement signed in 2008 by President Bush. The U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq was completed on December 18, 2011 early Sunday morning.[5] Immediately, following the departure of American soldiers in Iraq, on December 19th, an arrest warrant was issued for the Sunni Vice-President Al-Hashemi. He has been accused of involvement in assassinations and fled to the Kurdish part of Iraq.

Apparently I am not as stupid as you think, plus I know how to read.

You spout totally false numbers, statements and provide absolutely NO proof. It was over $4.30 (more in places) in 2008 until the world crash happened in the Fall, so I WILL give Bush credit for the decline in prices as he was partially responsible or at least under his term, for the crash.

Bush won the war? -laughable. Mr. "Mission Accomplised"

Negotiate a presence in Iraq? The Govt always said we were not going to stay. Obama pulled us out. Iraq did not want us there. I guess you guys think we should have just done what we wanted.

Loss of lives greater than Bush?-again laughable. Please check total deaths under each prez

Housing....If you guys are dumb enough to think ANYONE could turn housing around in 3 short years, then drink more kool aid.... it will take years to unwind the damage done by the free credit (caused by both sides).

How could he have done worse? Taliban back in charge? Let's see... we have killed almost all of their top people. They haven't been able to do anything other than blow up other middle easterners. Oh wait, we did just stop an attempt to bomb Washington. But gee... Obama can't protect us....

Back to topic. Newtie is going to lose..... he is now saying ANYTHING possible to get attention... he is a sad, despicable, immoral in EVERY way man who needs to fade away into the sunset and continue collecting his fees for being a "Historian" for big companies.

Finally, you guys who want us to bomb Iran... God save us from you people. They will turn right around and nuke Isreal, then we will get into the war because we HAVE to protect Isreal no matter how much trouble they cause. Then Russia and China will fight for Iran and we will have WWIII. Then I would love to be worried about $4.50 gallon..

By the way.. you pathetic winers about gas... Canada-our good neighbor who exports more oil than imports- is currently paying about $5.30 a gallon and their economy is doing well....

AND the US now is a net exporter so your idea the pipeline buys us security is just absolutely laughable.

Spanky-

Gas at $5.00 plus means Obama is toast.

And what or who is going to replace him? one that will attack Iran for its oil just like the previous one?

I think most people who blamed Bush for high oil prices was because in 2002 he said that if we went into Iraq oil prices will come down and that the war would be paid by it. What happened? the price oil went almost to 5 dollars and we are still paying for the war and every year will keep adding to the debt.

The only reason they came down is because oil consumption here and all over the world went down because of the recession.

bob-1805084 negotiate a presence in Iraq ? They wanted their frickin country back period, complete without any foreign presence and no President could have convinced the Iraqi government or it's people to settle for any less.

Drawing down in Afghanistan ? That country hasn't been able to be be conquered for centuries, what makes you think that the US is any different than all of the other countries that have tried and failed ? Besides, I believe even the US commanders in Afghanistan concurred and recommended the withdrawal. Did you not learn anything about fighting an un-winnable war from the Vietnam fiasco ? I also remind you that the PRIMARY purpose of going into Afghanistan was to get Bin laden and weaken Al Qeada, NOT to colonize and occupy the country forever. So Bin Laden is dead and Al Qeada is severely weakened and it's time we withdrew. Returning Taliban is now the Afghan governments problem, not ours !

Elevating and restoring the US world standing ? The Bush administration pretty much ruined that for us long ago and it will take decades of good foreign policy to ever regain that standing again. You can't expect respect or ellicit trust from the rest of the world when it has been proven that the Bush and Cheney Administration blatantly lied about WMD's to facilitate the invasion of Iraq. Global corporations, with many based in the US have also had a hand in turning other countries of the world against the US by spreading their greedy neo-imperialistic expansion worldwide, usually with economically devastating results to the populations of those countries. The present world economic crisis has been largely precipitated by the US and European banking systems selling derivatives and toxic assets to countries who were stupid enough to believe that the investment deal was on the up and up, only to find out that the US banking industry knew well in advance that what they were selling would ultimately fail ! Those countries bought fraudulent investments from crooks, US crooks ! The fact is, is that most people of the world no longer Trust the US political system (even many US citizens question it's democratic integrity) and any threat of a possible GOP presidency will only weaken confidence in the US. Most of the people I talk to visiting from foreign countries tend to overwhelmingly favor and trust USA Democrats over Republicans. Of course many are from democratic socialist countries, you know, the ones that have universal healthcare, longer paid vacation times, a higher standard of living and upwards mobility (in spite of paying higher taxes), better education, subsidized college tuition, better retirement, and have a higher happiness/well being index ranking than the US !

Bush more popular in Muslim countries than Obama ? fact ? Prove it, name a credible source and Fox news doesn't count as being credible !

IMO, you have failed in every one of your statements which appear to be much the same repetitive song we will unfortunately hear from all of the GOP candidates for the next 10 months leading up to the 2012 election. I can't wait for it to be over and see what the GOP's next move will be after they are wisely and deservedly rejected by the voters.

Spanky-

So alex cali - Obama and his sec. of energy said they want energy costs to go up. In fact Chu said he wanted our gas to cost what it costs in Europe, which at the time was $8.00 per.

Sounds fantastic, right?

Bye the way - demand for gas is way down right now. Yet costs are up.

Ready for Depression, part II? $5.00 is flat out unsustainable.

Me, I can afford to fill up for $100 per. But what about the 2 million that have left the job market cause there are no jobs?

Demand hit its lowest in 2008 and it has come up every year after that... Another LIE from you...

And you thin that just because oil will hit 5 dollars a gallon somehow Obama its not worthy of reelection?

I think its the opposite, they know that under a republican it surely means war for oil.

Bottom line is US consumption is down and supply is up, we are selling gasoline abroad, supply demand in the US has nor effect on US gas prices so maybe some free market expert can explain that to us. I guess you want Obama to suggest who the oil companies can sell their oil to, if you think he is responsible for US gas prices. Electric cars baby that's the future, face it, embrace it, gas will never do anything but go up, it can't possibly do anything else.

Naa alex - Obama said he wants the cost of gas to go up, just incrementally.

Oh and why did we go to war in Uganda and Libya again?

But see, here in the libbie paradise that is Cali - it has jumped about $.30 in about two weeks.

Not super incremental, right?

Nope, Obama has defeated himself. Oil, unemployment and of course rampant deficits.

So Forrest - Volt or Karma? Pruis? You do have an electric by now, surely. I can call you shirley, right?

Me, I'd settle for a budget. But we all know that'll never happen on Reid's watch. Now why is that?

"Former CIA boss says Iran will attack the Stature of Liberty"

"Troops march on White House in support of Ron Paul"

and "Government resurrects plan to monitor all calls and emails"

So why don't you just pull your tinfoil hat on a little tighter and tell us if Osama thinks President Obama has the ability to defend the United States.

If Obama has defeated himself, then the republican party has committed suicide by now!!

On rampant deficits, Obama has lowered the deficit from 1.42 trillion under the worst recession in the last 100 years. And we will see it below 900 billion by next year.

Newt Gingrich said Monday a Republican win in November is "a duty of national security,"

Speaking the obvious won't convince the many sheep who have drunk the koolaid of government handouts, courtesy of the annoited one!

One should always remember two truths:

1) There is no such thing as a free lunch, someone is paying for it

2) and when you begin to think that having your government provide for you and make your decisions is ok, realize that you've also given up the freedom that goes with making your own choices.

Too many people today prefer the handouts to having real freedom.... our country is going down the toilet! We're becoming the Argentina of the modern era.

Oh, so killing bin Laden made us less safe??? By eliminating most of al-Qaeda's chain of command with unmanned drones, trying to offer negotiations with the Taliban to make post-war Afghanistan more stable, helping Libyans overthrow a dictator who was responsible for the Lockerbie bombing, and using diplomatic and economic coercion to settle matters without sending the F-18s is making us unsafe??? What the hell are you smoking, Newt??? You are a historian; and yet you fail to understand how Obama's foreign policy is securing U.S. interests without endangering American lives or wasting trillions on stupid foreign adventures. There is no doubting it; the dumbing down of the GOP is complete.

Oh and to all those oil price ranters (I'm talking to YOU, Spanky), the President has relatively no control over oil prices, unless he were to dictate it as a socialist leader; oh no wait, you Teapublicans already think that. Oil production is up, so that leaves drill baby drill obsolete and the law of supply and demand out of the cause of this increase. The real factors are the growing fuel consumption in America thanks to the recovery and foreign events. Maybe I can convince you, Spanky; or maybe not...

Let's talk recovery. At the end of Bush's administration, gas prices were $1.86, mainly because of slackened demand. As the economy was weak, consumption was down to save money. But after the stimulus took affect and jolted the economy people began to feel more confident consumer-wise and began to consume more fuel. Gas prices rose due to increased demand, and so we have gas prices hovering (or used to hovering) around $3.80.

Now let's discuss foreign affairs. In 2008, there was no major foreign event at the forefront; it was solely the economy. But after the economy improved, and gas prices gradually went up, new tremors in the gasoline futures market emerged, mainly having to do with Iran's nuclear program. As tensions grew between the West and Iran, and the Iranian navy threatened to cut off the strait of Hormuz (like they did in 2008, which pushed gas prices past $4.25), through which 20% of the world's oil passes, oil went up. The second foreign event that pushed up costs was the Arab Spring. As protests occurred in oil-producing nations or countries near the major oil producers, investors got even more scared and pushed up prices. Eventually, the Arab Spring began to die down, with Libya overthrowing Gaddafi, Tunisia removing Ben Ali, Egypt taking out Mubarak, and other movements securing reforms from their governments.

The problem with Republicans blaming the President for higher gas prices is that A. Obama has nothing to do with prices and B. the GOP's policies of tougher policies against Iran (and the threat of an Israeli preemptive strike) would send gas prices easily past $4.50. And the GOP could provoke a war with Iran, sending prices as high as $6 a gallon.

Oh and Newt (and other insane right-wingers), American security has become stronger and safer as law enforcement have cracked down on terrorist plots from the underwear bomber to the Times Square bomb plot to bombs that threatened Jewish synagogues all across America to the threatened assassination of the Saudi ambassador. Plus Obama decimated al-Qaeda's chain of command and did so without endangering American lives. Combine that with his common sense foreign policy that uses diplomacy and economics first and force as a last resort, Obama has made America more respected AND more secure. If that ain't safety than I don't what is.

As far as Bush-Cheney, In the beginning I liked Bush. I couldn't imagine that he wanted his Presidency to be about war. And then 8 months in 9/11. I also agreed with Iraq because it made a better killing field than Afghanistan, and a lot of radicals went there to have a chance to kill Americans.

Personally, I think we went about it wrong though. We should have carpet bombed Afghanistan with fuel air explosives and wiped out all the oxygen. Any supposed innocents were complicit and accessories because they did nothing about the bad element in their society. If we had done this it would have done two things. It would have ended it quickly with very few American casualties, and it would have sent a warning to anyone else thinking about attacking us. Mess with us and we will take out your entire family.

In the beginning of his second term, I started to feel the same way I do now about what we were losing because of the paranoia created by a few for profit.

Correction: there was a major event in the summer of 2008. Iran threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz because of threats to its nuclear program. Had they done so, gas would have gone up to over $250 a barrel, and over $7 a gallon.

Red, Yes, 9/11 took place while Bush was President and I believe he took the blame. However, remember he had only been President for a little over 8 months. He could have, and IMO, should have blamed the Clinton Administration. (Remember the independent commission put more blame on Clinton than Bush.) During Clinton's Presidency there were 7 or 8 terrorist strikes against American property and people.

But since Bush was President and it was on his watch you want to blame him. Well and good, so we can blames Obama for the high unemployment rate, high price of gasoline, more people on welfare and food stamps, more American soldiers killed in Afghanistan than under Bush, the killing of American soldiers at Ft Hood, TX by the Muslim shrink, because they all happened on Obama's watch.

    Bob,

President Obama has kept the country safe...and its an achievement that we haven't been sucked into other wars with everything that's going on in the middle east.... if a GOP was in the white house (with their every chicken hawk mentality)... we would probably be fighting Iran or Libya or Syria right now....

The fact that we actually have a president who thinks means that we've made significant strides in foreign policy improvement over the last administration.

And lastly, when did you GOPers start discounting killing bin-laden - oh I c, when you couldn't kill him and you had 7 FLIPPING YEARS....and somehow ending up in Iraq.

Remember, President Obama said "If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will," .... he was chided by the GOPers and even some dems... and he did exactly that...prophetic enough for you.... if not enough, listen to his stands against the Iraq war in 2002...if you dont get good bumps wrt that, I'll help you look for something else.

I like my president, the "GENTLE WARRIOR" - no finger wagging, chicken hawk big talk - just get the job done and move on.

Fiesty, You better go back and do some research about 9/11 and the information you claim was passed on by the Clinton administration. Try reading the 9/11 Commission Report. Your remark is so stupid it doesn't even deserve a response.

But then I realized you never seem to get out of your mother's basement and check out the real world. You and your little band of far left liberals with your left wing talking points are really a big joke. Pull your head out of your fat rear end and do something constructive instead of waiting for your Obama talking points.

    Hey Tunde,

... we would probably be fighting Iran or Libya or Syria right now....

With all due respect ... Libya had given up their nuclear program - what would be the national security interest of going into Libya?

What is the national interest in going into Syria?

Iran is the biggest state sponsor of terrorism and even Obama has vowed that they must not be allowed to get it.

The problem is that Obama got punked by Russia and is too gutless to back up his words - the world knows it.

Iran is a big big big problem that someone is going to have to eventually deal with and it will be be a lot more expensive in lives and money than it ever should have been due to Obama's naivety and ineptitude.

    - no finger wagging, chicken hawk big talk - just get the job done and move on.

You got to be kidding .... the guy that reminds everybody at every opportunity that he got Bin Laden (as if he actually was carrying an M-4 that night and provided the double tap.)

    Backhose,

Bin Laden was still directing AQ affairs when located.

Yea, that why he was protected by an army of 4-5 guys right?

Reviewing BL's tapes and computers: has allowed the U.S.A. to identify successfully dozens of his Associates & underlings who threaten(ed) the safety of Americans and citizens of the whole world.

So says who ..... Obama? LOL

If Obama had been serious and Bin Laden was such a threat, why didn't Obama take OBL out 8 months earlier when they discovered him, risk another attack, risk OBL moving and trying to find him again?

According to rumors around wall street, many mid eastern camels are suffering from a really bad case of the runs. Many are not expected to pull through. A lot of oil field workers are standing by their animals rather than going to work. Stands to reason, this worries speculators. They rightly fear this could result in a decline in crude production, therefore they are raising prices in nervous anticipation of a shortage at some time in the future. Makes as much sense to me, at least, as anything Gingrich or any other goddamn republican says.

sfc ... are you really going to sit there an believe that Bush didn't have DAILY National Security Briefings? That he didn't have those National Security Briefings BEFORE he hit the Oval Office in January 2001? That he didn't have those briefings before he was elected? I got NEWS for YOU ... BOTH candidates start receiving National Security Briefings months before the election. They receive the SAME DAILY briefings as the outgoing President and continue to receive DAILY briefings once sworn into office. Bush GOT the warnings MONTHS in advance and DID N O T H I N G.

But maybe you're just effected by the ole NCO blindness. NCO's don't get briefings ... but your COMMISSIONED Officers sure did. THEY were the ones coming up with strategy because they are trained for it ... whereas NCO's are N O T.

Maybe that's why you don't know that Bush had been getting National Security Briefings for over a Y E A R before that beautiful Tuesday morning on the 11th of September, 2001.

Maybe it's just that you live nowhere N E A R either NYC or DC so you really have no freakin C L U E about what actually happened and how it impacted the lives of those of us who do. (I still live in the DC Metro area, my father - a retired AF COMMISSIONED OFFICER was supposed to be IN the Pentagon that morning and I used to work in Northern NJ and had friends who D I E D in the WTC collapse)

Amazing how they love to sling the mud, and simultaneously play the role of victim when it comes to 9/11. Bush did it again and again with the, "How was I suppose to know?". SF cretins have a world view that the mid-east crisis started in 1979 with the deposition of the Shah. They can never look further beyond to the establishment of Israel as the powder keg build up. This limited view shows how they can support the current candidates - they are the epitome of CLUELESS!

Frankly, it does not matter anymore that the Bush administration was complicit in the 9/11 attacks. The fact is that Obama was brought in to finish the job that Bush started - to weaken the country, dismantle our defense, destroy our economy, and strip all citizens of their rights, jobs and homes. Stupidity can be best defined here as insisting that if one is bad, then the other must be good. That's what the congress, reviled by any real American with remaining brain matter wants us to think, but it is that divisiveness that is the backbone of their operation to sell off our country to our enemies in order to line their pockets. This is a crisis like the bay of pigs, we are a country without a functioning government - at least in the constitutional sense. Cash for clunkers, the healthcare reform law, the Gibson raids, all blatantly unconstitutional. A president who turns his back on Israel, destroys 3 decades of reasonably good relations with Russia and goes on an a$$ kissing tour of the Arab world. Forget about parties. They both suck. They both think we are here to make them wealthy and then die. If you are so blind as to think anything else, you shall reap as ye sow. A true look at our history tells us the good old days really weren't all that great, but at least we were secure in our jobs and possessions, the only monopoly we had to deal with was the phone company, and we were not on the brink of world war three.

The Clinton Administration did in fact warn the Bush Administration when they were switching over that Osama bin Laden and al Queda were an imminent threat to our national security. The Bush Administration didn't believe it, did nothing about it, and almost 3,000 citizens of the United States of America died for it.

Believe what you will, but he DIDN'T take the blame. What he did was react in the worse possible way and start two meaningless wars. This is fodder under the bridge, but apparently, you still believe the war in Iraq was about 9/11. Really, after 10 years, this is still what your believe? No wonder you support a conservative, for this is your xtreme boogeyman. The conservatives of today still believe in McCarthy communists living under the bed or sofa. The basic fact is that George Bush trusted the Afghanistans & Pakistanis to help the US capture Bin Ladin in 2001-2002, but bin Ladin managed to slip out of Tora Bora, probably with the help of the same people he trusted. Obama knew better, and thus told absolutely nothing to the Pakistanis about the mission to take out bin Ladin--and it was accomplished.

Then, when the US could have used all its energies and resources on finding and capturing bin Ladin, Bush decided to focus on Iraq, under the mistaken premise that Iraq's pursuit of WMD's made them an even bigger threat. He did so in defiance of much of the world. If the US had spent as much energy and lives in Afghanistan as they did in Iraq, perhaps bin Ladin would have been taken out before Bush left office.

...when the US could have used all its energies and resources on finding and capturing bin Ladin, Bush decided to focus on Iraq, under the mistaken premise that Iraq's pursuit of WMD's made them an even bigger threat.

I agree. I think a large part of the reason things dragged on for nearly 10 years was a diversion of resources to Iraq in the middle of the ongoing war in Afghanistan. Rumsfeld was clearly incompetent in his job but Bush refused to replace him.

The reason bin Laden was not captured or killed during Bush's years is because he lost focus. Bush's focus shifted from punishing the perpetrators of 9/11 to punishing Saddam. The three biggest reasons that Bush touted for invading Iraq were all false: there were no WMDs, Saddam had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks and Al Quaeda had no presence in Iraq until we destroyed Saddam's regime.

Bush also chose his allies poorly, giving $Billions to Pakistan in return for their aid on the war on terror. When bin Laden was finally found he had been living for 5 years near Pakistan's most prestigious military academy.

Frankly, I just don't see how Obama could do much worse than the Bush comedy of errors!

"President Obama has done more to protect the United States in 3 years then 'W' managed in 8...He just doesn't have to spend trillions of dollars and thousands of lives in the process..."

You are incorrect in your assumptions, but understandable since we have a President who lies regularly to us, and VERY controlled news we are ALLOWED to hear. He has killed more wars in three years then the last two presidents combined. But YOU will have to research that to find it out. The lies spoken and control of information causes your problem with knowing what is really going on. Feel free to check the news of a few foreign nations that do reports on the USA.

About Afghanistan, Senior ranking U.S. military leaders have so distorted the truth when communicating with the U.S. Congress and American people in regards to conditions on the ground in Afghanistan that the truth has become unrecognizable. This deception has damaged America’s credibility among both our allies and enemies, severely limiting our ability to reach a political solution to the war in Afghanistan." Lt. Colonel Daniel Davis, a 17-year Army veteran recently returned from a second tour in Afghanistan.

Actually how can anyone defend Obama putting Special Operations in over 140 foreign nations, Bush (who was a war monger had Special Operations in 60 foreign nations over 8 years. Obama more then doubled that amount in 3 years (actually less then three years when it hit 140).

    Can we say "Media Blackout"?

"When the London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism released a report Sunday claiming that U.S. drone strikes have killed dozens of civilian rescuers and mourners in Pakistan, the American media scarcely noticed. "A New York Times story (which included an anonymous U.S. official smearing the researchers as Al-Qaeda sympathizers) might be the only story in the mainstream media;...". In other words, when the L.A. Times is talking about a media blackout, they're talking about themselves too.

Pretty sad when American citizens have to go to foreign news to get any true reports about what is happening here in America. Even rt.com has better coverage ,, and not "fluff" stuff meant to sidetrack and occupy US citizens attention like one does when using a mobile in a crib for a a baby.

“It’s ----- that our country’s main source of news is owned by a few large corporations that have a GLARING conflict of interest in providing us with accurate, honest information. They have an agenda both in downsizing news rooms as well as promoting certain political views. It’s time for us to hold them to account and demand a true separation of corporation and government, both in the running of and in the reporting of.” Elizabeth Moore.

Americn citizens may not realize it, but WE own the airwaves. Plus The Supreme Court stated in Red Lion v. FCC in 1969: It is the purpose of the First Amendment to preserve an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will ultimately prevail, rather than to countenance monopolization of that market, whether it be by the Government itself or a private licensee. It is the right of the public to receive suitable access to social, political, esthetic, moral, and other ideas and experiences which is crucial here. That right may not constitutionally be abridged either by Congress or by the FCC.

Yet, it is and once again, we are allowing it. Why?

Let me see, I accused Obama of lying to us, let me back that up. (And Gingrich is no better) I'll start with an easy one, NDAA. He lied about that he was going to veto it because the indefinite detention of US citizens on American soil part in it. While he was saying that to us, he was fighting to be able to have that "power" put into the NDAA, making sure that it was available to him via those he orders and not just the military. Senator Carl Levin (D-Mich., left), co-author of the bill, says that the Obama administration in fact heavily lobbied to have removed from the bill's language that would have PROTECTED American citizens from some of the bill's provisions, such as indefinite detention without trial. He does lie well, but that is because his speech writer is so good, and all he has to do is read it.

"Senior ranking U.S. military leaders have so distorted the truth when communicating with the U.S. Congress and American people in regards to conditions on the ground in Afghanistan that the truth has become unrecognizable. On September 8th, 2011, General William Shelton told lawmakers during a highly classified briefing. The four-star general is in charge of Air Force Space Command. According to the Daily Beast, "Pressed by members, Gen. William Shelton said the White House tried to pressure him to change his testimony to make it more favorable to a company tied to a large Democratic donor."

Democratic Nominating Committee (DNC) language does NOT include language stating Obama is Qualified, while the Republican Nominating Committee (RNC) document DOES. This shows a direct difference trying to establish that the DNC MAY possibly have known that Obama was not qualified. Department of Homeland Security is the third-largest government agency, after the departments of defense and veterans' affairs. Not including the billions the federal government spent on its own agencies, it has also disbursed many billions more to various state and local police agencies, ostensibly for the purpose of fighting the terrorist threat.

DHS created new surveillance opportunities for non-terrorist activity. In one notorious case from 2006, it was revealed that Homeland Security had given the remote Alaskan village of Dillingham (population 2,400) $202,000 to purchase surveillance cameras in order to track alleged terrorist activity.

Dillingham is not on any known terrorist's target list, so the only people the surveillance cameras were watching were the citizens. But surveillance wasn't the end of it.

He violated the law and the provisions of the Constitution by seizing control of GM and Chrysler without proper authorization from Congress.

Although his unlawful cronies in Congress granted him the authority after the fact, his action to seize corporations was a violation of the law at the time it was implemented. The fact that the U.S. Supreme Court allowed this atrocity is no matter. Thomas Jefferson said it best when he articulated a key principle of liberty--any government that willfully violates the rule of law and encroaches on the rights of the people ceases to be a legitimate government.

The first promise, Oath he broke was the Oath to " Preserve, Protect, and Defend the US Constitution as the "job he applied for" when he ran as a candidate (plus having been a Constitutional Professor, right?) requires of him, or anyone else who wants to occupy that office.

Taking care of foreign nations people before and above American citizens when sworn to represent America and American citizens: The Republican in charge of doling out foreign aid wrote to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing "grave concern" over cash payments to Pakistan and asked they stop. Rep. Kay Granger of Texas, who chairs a subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee responsible for foreign aid, is singling out $190 million in "assistance for flood victims who lost their homes" in Pakistan the day after turning down American citizen assistance to those who lost 1000's of homes due to fire here in the US.

    Contempt of the judicial branch

Contempt of the legislative branch - Obama essentially said that the judicial branch has no power over him. He ordered his attorneys to stay away from the hearing. He didn’t petition a higher court in a legitimate attempt to stay the hearing. Instead he showed complete contempt for the entire judicial branch and for the rule of law. Rather than respecting the legal process Obama went around the courts and tried to put political pressure directly on the Georgia Secretary of State. When that failed, he simply ignored the judicial branch completely. (and got away with it, even Nixon did NOT ignore the Judicial Branch of our gov.)

Those of you who compare Bush and Obama are on the right track. The problem is that it is a comparison of "good" vs "bad" while the truth of the matter is that Obama took every bad thing Bush did and extended and or added to it: Patriot Act, extended and added to it. Attacking our Rights as the Constitution guarantees that no one in our government can do - Warrantless searches, warrantless tracking devises, warrantless information gathering on all of us, collecting all cell phone information on us, collecting all internet information on us, hindering our movements around within our own nation; "Ordered U.S. Army active duty combat troops into the small civilian community of Samson, Alabama, USA"; etc

The Constitution of the United States is a law for rulers and people, equally in war and peace, and covers with the shield of its protection all classes of men, at all times, and under all circumstances. No doctrine involving more pernicious consequences was ever invented by the wit of man than that any of its provisions can be suspended during any of the great exigencies of government. Such a doctrine leads directly to anarchy or despotism." The Supreme Court of the United States, 1866

The Constitution of the United States specifies that an officer is to be impeached for "high crimes and misdemeanors"; experts agree that impeachment is permitted for noncriminal misconduct (e.g., violation of the Constitution), experts pointed out that federal judges had been removed from office for perjury. They further argued that a president had taken an oath to uphold all the laws and he had violated his duties as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer.

The framers wrote the United States Constitution, which delineated a constitutional federal republic. It would consist of three separate but equal branches which were not only designed to perform separate and distinct duties, but to keep each other in check, preventing one from gaining arbitrary power. All of these branches were to be checked by the standard of law set forth in the Constitution, which each officer of the government must swear to uphold. If those officers should fail to keep their oath of office, then it is not only the right but also the duty of those who chose those officers to remove them. The success of this form of government depends heavily upon the vigilant and attentive execution of these duties.

The definition of maladministration is wide and can include:

    • Delay
    • Incorrect action or failure to take any action
    • Failure to follow procedures or the law

Is this the same republican (Roberts) controlled 9/11 commission who found nobody accountable for anything in respose to 9/11..wouldn't investigate white house manipulation of intelligence .. found the info used in every speech the bush adminidtration cited in the case for war saddams WMD that came from Chalabi and his merry band of defectors didn't have anything to do with anything ...that nothing was wrong at Norad ... that lied about Wilson .. and that brought us this gem ..that republican controlled whitewash committee are you talking about...

9/11 Commission Report Confirms Administration's Views of al-queda

A 9/11 Commission staff report supports the Bush Administration's longstanding conclusion that there was no evidence of "collaboration" between Iraq and al-Qaeda on the 9-11 attacks against the United States Qaeda/Iraq Ties

Okay, who am I talking about. I'll give you all three guesses...

Self grandiose, blow hard, who bears a stricking resemblence to the Pillsberry Doughboy.

No, it's not me, guess again...

    Kine,

You do know that simply listing assertions doesn't prove your point right? You didn't explain as to HOW Obama has done any of that, except for maybe NDAA, which I agree with you is bunk.

Than all you did was list quotes without any real context and definitions. If you're making those kinds of assertions against the President, you should explain yourself a bit better.

You said what you're accusing him of, but not why you're accusing him. List the elements of those crimes, than your evidence as to how Obama's actions meet those elements. Otherwise you just sound paranoid.

Plus, some links as to the source of your information would be nice. Those are some serious accusations, I need more than your word.

    For Immediate Release

    December 31, 2011

Statement by the President on H.R. 1540

The fact that I support this bill as a whole does not mean I agree with everything in it. In particular, I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists. Over the last several years, my Administration has developed an effective, sustainable framework for the detention, interrogation and trial of suspected terrorists that allows us to maximize both our ability to collect intelligence and to incapacitate dangerous individuals in rapidly developing situations, and the results we have achieved are undeniable. Our success against al-Qa'ida and its affiliates and adherents has derived in significant measure from providing our counterterrorism professionals with the clarity and flexibility they need to adapt to changing circumstances and to utilize whichever authorities best protect the American people, and our accomplishments have respected the values that make our country an example for the world.

Section 1021 affirms the executive branch's authority to detain persons covered by the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) (Public Law 107-40; 50 U.S.C. 1541 note). This section breaks no new ground and is unnecessary. The authority it describes was included in the 2001 AUMF, as recognized by the Supreme Court and confirmed through lower court decisions since then. Two critical limitations in section 1021 confirm that it solely codifies established authorities. First, under section 1021(d), the bill does not "limit or expand the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force." Second, under section 1021(e), the bill may not be construed to affect any "existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States." My Administration strongly supported the inclusion of these limitations in order to make clear beyond doubt that the legislation does nothing more than confirm authorities that the Federal courts have recognized as lawful under the 2001 AUMF.

Moreover, I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation. My Administration will interpret section 1021 in a manner that ensures that any detention it authorizes complies with the Constitution, the laws of war, and all other applicable law.

Some witch turned him into a Newt, and he didn't get better. "No American can second guess an Israeli Prime Minister?" (but it's okay to call a professed Christian American President a Muslim and second, third, fourth guess every other thing he does). He's wrong in saying Barack Obama is the most dangerous president, clearly Newt is off by 4 years. Of course one highly expensive, unnecessary, destructive war in the middle east is not enough for these "defenders of America", lets start another one and call anybody who disagrees a traitor, anti-Christ, Islam loving Kenyan. I expect separation of Church and State in this country, and that includes Judaism, Catholicism, Islamism, or any other ism religion saying we got to invade another country and blow it up so the rest of Ya'll can get ruptured. InSanetorum, eye of Newt, and now Graham, Robertson, the Bishops, AIPAC, why do you hate government of the people, by the people, AND FOR THE PEOPLE?

WTF!!!!!!! You just wasted a few kb of space on the internet.

Do you have any argument or are you just one of the easily convinced?

BTW that was just a couple hundred bytes.

Actually for the US to go on an austerity program would put the entire world into a global depression, not just another recession.

          #2.48 - Thu Feb 23, 2012 9:15 AM EST

Yes it would, yes it would.

Watchers of the world economy have long said that when the American economy sneezes the rest of the world gets a cold. While that's not quite as true now as it was thanks to emerging economies like Brazil, India, and China, putting ourselves into a new recession through the destructive policies of the Right would create years of new pain.

          Great point Pat.

So do we stay out of Syria, or treat it like Libya?

Then of course there is domestic policy. Like Geinter admitting team blue has no plan, it just doesn't like the plan the republicans have.

So, Pat, where are the 'adults' when it comes to the silly little things like debt, deficits and entitlements?

Yes where were the adults with little things like debt and deficits and entitlements. I do believe the adults were outvoted by the republicans who just had to have tax cuts because our country was doing so well.

Then we were pushed into two wars and did the adults raise taxes like every time in our history? No they were once again outvoted by the republicans who after starting two wars just had to give even more tax cuts for the richest in our nation.

Meanwhile the debt and deficits were growing under the republican leadership that outvoted the adults. All the entitlements for the rich and the oil companies and the corporations have been keep in place as an excuse for the republicans to take from the poor.

So where are the adults? We are still trying to wrestle power from the republicans who always vote for the 1% over the people in this country.

          Return the adults to power

Let's all just step back a few paces and do some simple math. Supply and demand determines market value in commodities (plus a little jolt of spec. capital). As people use more, prices increase. It is the economics of growth. Let's be real folks, high energy prices are here to stay. A little perspective..You think you would be able to buy Gold @ $400/oz again? Probably not. Smart money will hedge higher energy costs by "Buying" domestic energy stock, rather than playin the casino of multinational trading. Buy American. Smile alot, and take care of yourself, family, and friends. Those always be around. Peace out.

Mickey, NY I agree with you (assuming you were being sarcastic) that Newt would be the best candidate to insure an Obama victory. My wish is that once he is fully rejected by not only the american public, but by even his own party, he will just fade into a quiet obscure life, never to be heard from again. In my fantasy mind, he is a close second to Dick Cheney as someone that needs to be punched squarely in the face by a top tier MMA fighter !

Bush left a 1.42 trillion deficit, remember that deficits add to the debt. He left an economy on the verge of total collapse -9% gdp and 750,000 jobs loss when he left.

458 billion deficit for Bush in 2008 per cbo

500+ billion lost in revenue in 2008 per cbo

Medicare part D will keep on growing every year because Bush and co made sure it did not have price controls on drugs being provided. The drug company can raise prices and there isn't anything we can do about it. The government would just pay for it. Frankly i think this was done on purpose to destroy medicare. The Ryan plan will kill medicare and Ryan also voted for part d.

Wars were being paid trough appropriations, Obama made sure they were added to the deficit .

Why do i have to repeat this everyday??????

Remember that next year the deficit is going to be below 900 billion. So he would have cut 520 billion from the deficit and all of this while growing the economy, creating almost 4 million jobs(till now), investing billions into energy that will creates millions of jobs and get us off foreign oil.

I could go on and on and still your @$#@ @$$ would not understand it.

It calls for new spending in infrastructure, education, and energy.

Next year is going to be below 900 billion. A 500+ billion cut.

he'd CUT the deficit by now?

Show me where he said that??? i dare you, you LIAR!!!! Now if i remember correctly he said he would cut the deficit in HALF. But when did he say this? Was it before or after cbo came out with with the 1.42 trillion deficit for 2009???

Trough out the campaign he kept promising to cut the deficit in half... But what was the deficit in 2008???

          458 billion

They did not account for the deficit to be at more than 1 trillion WHEN HE CAME IN because of the 500+ billion lost in revenue in 2008.

Do you know what were the projections for the deficit in 2009 and 2010 after bush??

Have you even cared to look what they were going to be?

Medicare part D will just keep growing and adding to our deficit.

Also the wars were being paid by appropriations, those never get added to the deficit they go straight to the debt. LOOK IT UP!!!

Now lets get back to the deficit that Obama would magically disappear, 458 BILLION YOU CUT IT IN HALF AND YOU GET 229 BILLION. OBAMA DID CUT MORE THAN THAT IN HES FIRST TERM. LOOK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama did say he was going to cut the deficit in half in the campaign, where the deficit was 458 billion according to cbo. 229 Obama has to cut from the deficit.

It does not take into account the revenue lost and future deficit projections.

Look, Obama could have cut the deficits if the GOP had been a bit more cooperative in the debt ceiling talks, but no, they had to stick to their guns. And we got downgraded. THANKS A LOT.

This is my deficit reduction package; please comment on it.

          I. Reduce the debt by $8 trillion over 10 years.

          • $750 billion in defense cuts: cut waste in private contracting; reduce investments in new military projects to more sustainable levels; reduce active military personnel by about 8%; demolish 200 bases to save over $55 billion a year; prioritize investments for drones, efficient weapon systems, and cyber-defense systems.
          • $1.25 trillion in entitlement savings: Raise payroll cap to 90% of income; reinstate COLA; reinstate estate taxes; raise premiums for beneficiaries who make over $250,000; progressive indexing.
          • Cut $1.5 trillion from discretionary spending except from NASA and Department of Education. Find ways to remove waste, trim costs, etc.
          • Save $2.8 trillion by repealing Bush tax cuts but retaining about $700 billion for the middle class.
          • Institute Buffet Rule and save $500 billion.
          • Reform tax code: decrease about 70% of all tax expenditures unless they are PROVEN to promote a significant amount of growth. Close loopholes, lower corporate tax rate to between 20-25%. Eliminate all corporate welfare. Approximate savings=$ 737.1 billion a year.
          • Reduce subsidies to oil companies, farmers, and ethanol producers by $100 billion.
          • Total savings=~$13 trillion plus perhaps trillions more in interest.

I am not joking. Check (http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=3472). Just removing 90% of our tax code's loopholes and tax expenditures would save $947 billion a year. Maybe we ought to do that and simply reform entitlements and we'd have practically no debt by the mid-to-late 2020s.

          II. Economic Recovery Package

          • Education reform. Increase funding for Department of Education, adopt RAND education policy and further Head Start programs.
          • Create Department of Tourism with $36 billion budget to support 150,000 employees to speed up process for foreign tourists to apply for visas to US and make system more efficient.
          • $90 billion in infrastructure bank to leverage capital for infrastructure repairs to employ millions of Americans.
          • Incorporate policies of Obama's Jobs Bill.
          • Offer incentives for businesses to buy US-made equipment and to employ people in America to the tune of perhaps $2,000-$3,000 per head; includes only people earning the median salary that the companies provides for its workers.
          • Increase duties and tariffs for Chinese goods to 35% until China appreciates its currency and lowers subsidies; place more cases on Chinese fraud and stealing,
          • $60 billion in incentives and federal loans and grants to green technology.
          • Regulatory overview to decrease unnecessary regulations for economy and add regulations were needed.
          • Reinstate Glass-Steagall.
          • Lift moratorium on offshore oil drilling and open up certain areas for energy exploration WITH safety and environmental precautions and insure safety.
          • Invest $40 billion in new R&D projects.
          • Offer more scholarships and Pell grants; prioritize scholarships to promote getting degrees in engineering, technology, etc.
          • Negotiate lower tuition deals with private institutions in return for aid and invest more money public higher education. Negotiate with states for a state education surtax to pay for public universities.
          • Help housing market: tighten regulations on housing and financial markets, reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; create partnership programs between the government and the private sector to buy houses and rent it out to former owners; persuade banks to write off parts of underwater mortgages; quicken time for foreclosures; demolish old buildings to open up to construction projects.
          • Increase federal gasoline tax to $.225/gallon and use extra revenues to revamp infrastructure.
          • Extend payroll tax cut.
          • Reform Post Office. Eliminate 60,000 payrolls through early retirement, increase stamp costs to $.51, cut administrative salaries and budgets, pay freeze, adopt methods that FedEx and UPS do, transition to an energy-efficient postal fleet and turn postal buildings "green," and find more ways to trim costs.

Freshieee, On january 1, 2013 the obama (bush) tax cuts and the bipartisan passed payroll tax cuts will expire. That should just warm the cockles of everyone to know that more revenue will soon be flowing into the US treasury coffers, right?

Don't you find it interesting that obama and congress talk about tax reform but refuse to do anything about it?

He doesn't remember spikes in Cali in gasoline. All that nasty-spunk remembers is that these issues arise when a democrat comes into power. Amnesia hits him when he asks why it occurs. Well, let me tell ya Spanks, it happens when Enron controls the power grid that republicans sold to them. It happens when Cali gas producers tell you we can effen charge you whatever we want, whenever we want. Spanky, the epitome of the OC life, loves to bitch about high gas prices, but will unfailingly support the idiots that raise the price of gas. Gas-bag dijour is a Spanky.

Your suggestions sound like the Obama playbook, in case you hadn't noticed, his policies have all but destroyed this country in the last three years. And if like his other disciples, you still blame Bush, three years on, then it's about time you acknowledge that this clown has no business in office. You must be on of those millionaires, because it offends you to much what he wrote.

or do you plan to be rich in the near future???

You just happen to know that in the last 3 years the country is being destroyed... YEAH RIGHT MAN!!!!!

Since Ronald Reagan they put this country towards destruction.

When Reagan became president, the national debt was less than $1 trillion.

He and Bush Sr. promptly quadrupled it, passing a $350 billion annual deficit on to Clinton.

Clinton eventually balanced the budget, thanks primarily to the Deficit Reduction Act of 1993, which not one single Republican in Congress voted for.

We were on a path toward eradicating the national debt altogether when Bush Jr. became president.

Bush took the projected surpluses and turned them into nearly $6.1 trillion in additional debt, handing a failed economy and a $1.42 trillion (actually more) annual deficit to Obama.

Virtually all of the debt incurred since then (we're past $15 trillion now thanks to Reagan Republicans) has been due to: the effects of the Great Recession, the two botched Bush wars, Medicare Part D (not paid for under Bush), and the two Bush tax cuts.

The Recovery Act REDUCED deficits after it was enacted (see the Blinder/Zandi report).

Get a clue Republicans or you will continue to ruin your own country. Let the smart people continue fixing the mess that Bush and the Republicans made.
For the last 3 decades the rich have bombarded us with propaganda saying that the "next" tax break was going to rescue the country. Thirty years later we have falling infrastructure, failing schools, rampant joblessness, broken social programs, etc.. And the only thing that's changed is millionaires became billionaires.

It makes more sense to look at deficits as a percentage of GNP. If you do THAT, you discover that Reagan was the fumb ducker who spent money the US could NOT pay back - but just gave an illusion of prosperity.

"Defeating Barack Obama becomes, in fact, a duty of national security," Gingrich told a crowd of about 4,000 people on the campus of Oral Roberts University. "Because the fact is, he is incapable of defending the United States."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAA oh my, I thought I was watching the Comedy Channel when I saw this.

POINT #1: Newt Gingrich is the threat to National Security because he talks out of his as*hole and all that comes out is poo-poo. The defacto Neo-Con Gingrich, would have this country going to war on 3 fronts, and trying to defend the comments that come out of his mouth, if the people were to even consider this KOOOK as a real Presidential candidate.

POINT 2: Obama is the real defender of the United States. His record of military actions, raids, terrorist and somalia pirate eliminations, ending wars, and over all knowledge by sometimes going against his advisors with his own judgement is just what we need as Commander In Chief. Don't be fooled by the carnival barker Gingrich who would just bomb everyone that didn't side with him. There is a reason he got thrown out of Congress; He's a radical who believes he has all the ideas and you should fall in line with them or you are the enemy. The truth is Gingrich is the enemy to everyone and himself, and Calista, please do something with that hair. You look like you're going to fall over!!

He could have cut the deficit in half in George Bush didn't hand him the beginnings of a modern day depression, starting with the auto industry when the Bush Ad. asked the Obama team and McCain team to come to the White House with no answers except to say, one of you poor SUCKERS will inherit this, then the mortgage crisis, default home loans right around the corner. This was beginning back in 2006 when the Bush administration with congress cut us a check from the treasury for $1425 and sent a letter before the check arrived with explicit directions to GO OUT AND SPEND IT ON CONSUMABLES, because the Bush administration knew then the economy was beginning to slow down. Guess what? 65% of Americans took that check and instead of spending it like their patriotic duty required of them, they paid credit cards and put it in savings. That was the beginning of the deep recession/depression, whatever you prefer to label it as. Americans at a all time saturated debt level was the major engine that sucked the life out of this economy.

Newt needs to give up idea of being POTUS. But he is right about Obama.

The Association of the Bar of the City of New York argued that a President could be removed “for conduct amounting to a gross breach of trust or serious abuse of power” and that these are “not limited to criminal offenses” but refer to acts that undermine the integrity of the government, whether technically criminal or not.

(The Constitutional Convention) A President is not necessarily charged with a criminal offense but with improper conduct in performing the duties of his office. They specified instead that the only grounds for impeachment were “Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors.” These terms referred to the abuse of power, misapplication of public funds, corruption, criminal conduct, or violating the separation of powers mandated by the Constitution, not keeping the oath of office.

A President may also be held responsible for the conduct of his subordinates. He may be charged with a cover-up if he knowingly conceals information regarding a violation of the law or if he fails to remove such officials from office when evidence of their offenses comes to his attention. He may also be charged with failing to see that the laws are faithfully executed, with failing to institute procedures so that officials will act lawfully, or with a conspiracy to see that the laws are violated. A President who testifies falsely in a judicial proceeding may be charged with perjury or obstruction of justice.

1998 the House agreed articles of impeachment on charges of lying

Newt's favorite outdoor activity is getting a b.j. in the front seat of a rented Lincoln from the underage daughter of one of his supporters. He calls it patriotism.

Gingrich can't stop using Saul Alinsky's method of political campaigning,,,, Doesn't that make Newt a Communist?

Saul Alinski was neither a fear mongerer, a communist, nor a liar. Newt qualifies on two of the three, and one of his favorite lies is no doubt his one about who Saul Alinsky was.

Saul Alinski once had his group eat a bunch of under cooked beans and then attend a Los Angeles Philharmonic concert to make some point or other. He didn't scream, and he didn't throw bombs, but he did have imagination.
