I think that Rick Santorum doesn't realize a few things. First, prenatal care is in most cases sought by women/couples who want a baby in the first place. Second, having had two children, one unplanned, I can tell you that there is nothing more powerful and life-changing than hearing the heartbeat of your baby for the very first time. Finally, prenatal screening is more likely to lead to a course of treatment than a recommendation of abortion by a medical professional.

I would love to review the research behind Santorum's statement, if any.

There is general and trimester specific testing that occur all the way through and these help doctors determine not simply if the child may have a congenital defect (which can be prepared for or even surgically corrected prior to delivery, such as heart defects that SAVE a child's life), but can also indicate if the mother requires medication in order to maintain a healthy pregnancy.

When a man demonstrates a lack of general knowledge required by graduating high school students, he is not ready to assume the Presidency of the most powerful country on Earth.

The unavailability of contraceptives leads to unwanted and unhealthy pregnancies that increase the number of abortions. Santorum is his own worst nightmare. But, everybody knows there were absolutely no abortions before Obama innovated the procedure, even though he finds it a grave and objectionable matter.

The fundamental cause of the need for contraception is men, and Santorum is one. Women don't multiply by themselves. Santorum needs poverty, chastity, and obedience if he wishes to be made a contrite Catholic.

I started to write to respond to Santorum's comment about Obama, the unchristian, when so soon on the heels of that inane comment comes his attack on pre-natal care, a few notches worse. if he is the best that the publicans can produce, then god help us all... if only i was his mother....

We had prenatal testing to SAVE the life of our child. The doctor suspected spinal bifeda because of an abnormality in her neck and back and surgery in utero would have corrected it to a great degree. Rick Santorum is dumb.
