I find the republican attitude toward contraception and abortion disgusting. Even more so since it seems to be primarily perpetrated by angry white men. Women have, and should retain, their reproductive rights. For some reason, the republicans seem to cast women as the “evil doers” in the procreation process, forgetting it takes “two to tango.”

Ok, I propose this. There have been approximately 600,000 vasectomies performed last year, which is commendable. To be fair and equal, all men, before having a vasectomy, should have to undergo at least an hour of counseling, as this is permanent, and have a scope inserted up their penis to make sure there are no problems performing the procedure. Afterwards, they should be forced to produce sperm by ejaculation in the doctor’s office to provide evidence the procedure worked. Fair is fair.

I was a very young girl when JFK was running for President. I attended a Catholic school and was taunted by my non-Catholic friends saying we would become a puppet of Rome if JFK became President. How is it as a country we have changed so much that we do not fear Santorum and his Catholic beliefs becoming a part of this country as we did back in the 60s? I firmly believe in the separation of church and state and now more than ever. If this country elects any of these Republican candidates women will return to the dark ages and we may become a theocracy. A personhood bill is now working its way through our state legislature and sure to be signed by our Republican Gov. Mary Fallin and being a Democrat has become a very dirty word. As a woman I am so tired of having to fight for the right to make choices for my body.

Second, if you're serious, I'd like you to level with me and explain exactly how the republican push to prevent gay marriage isn't motivated by religion at all. Explain exactly how a gay couple marrying each other ruins your life, your marriage and how the world is going to end. If they succeed in this crusade, gays will still be having sex, they will still be allowed to have children, and they will continue to love each other. You will have simply the word "marriage" left as your consolation prize. The crusade is motivated my religion. If not, the only other possible reason is pure hatred.

If you cannot explain the crusade against homosexuals without bringing faith into it at all, everything you have said here is invalid.

For those who say "contraception is not medical treatment" I will remind you that pregnancy is a medical condition, contraception prevents pregnancy, therefore it is a medical treatment. You need a medical prescription, therefore it is a medical treatment.

For those who will argue that pregnancy is a natural condition I will remind you that cancer and the flu are also "natural" but we take measure to prevent/and or treat these conditions. How they are treated or prevented is covered by insurance, why would we not do the same with contraception?

1 in 2800 women die from complications of pregnancy (in advanced societies, this number is much larger in 3 world nations), therefore it is also a life threatening medical condition, just like cancer and the flu. If a woman makes the choice to not risk her life, that is her choice and it should be between her, her doctor and her partner if she has one.

And why are men making these decisions for women? Remember if you think a woman should keep her legs closed, that means you will have to take care of your own sexual urges on your own. Sex is a natural instinctive urge that all humans have. Why are women required to suppress this urge but men are not? Why does the woman have to keep her legs closed and not the men keep it in their pants?It works both ways, guys.
