The Santorum supporter comments on the culture wars over contraception use saying, "Back in my days, they [woman] used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives."
Foster Friess -- a prominent Santorum supporter and one of the chief benefactors of a pro-Santorum Super PAC -- today made a statement on contraception that's already raising plenty of eyebrows.
Friess told NBC's Andrea Mitchell on "Andrea Mitchell Reports":
This contraceptive thing, my gosh, it's so inexpensive. Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly.
The obvious suggestion by Friess: that women should put an aspirin between their legs so they don’t open them.

And these are exactly the type of right wing moral crusaders that you need to keep away from the neighbor kids.
For obvious reasons.
""Foster Friess -- a prominent Santorum supporter and one of the chief benefactors of a pro-Santorum Super PAC""
So you all are pushing birth control and abortion to save the poor child from those poor parents that cannot support him or do not want him so he will not be one more person on welfare, AND YOU CALL ME A RACIST. YOU LIBERALS DON'T KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE COMING OR GOING. BTW, I used that because it was actually proposed back in the 70s with basically the same results.
"I'll make a deal though. If we could get certain minorities to agree to be sterilized I would agree to help pay them a premium."
That pretty much makes you a racist.
Rick has some serious issues. It is alarming that people like Rick and his ilk are allowed to roam the streets unattended. It is no wonder he is a Republican, though...
You freakin; liberals have your heads stuck so far up your wazzu that it will take a team of Gastro-Intestinal specialist to extract it.
So sayeth the moron racist.
Pretty simple minded there fallout - you can't seem to handle more - oh the hell with it what you idiots think don't mean anything. I know what is in my heart and I'm pretty you all are hypocrites.
Rick you must be a follower of Hilter. Republicans, Rick is all yours. He may be you new mascot, The Bigot Hitler Rick312779.
The real shame is that Rick is unable to see that he is embarrassing himself publicly. He must walk around in public with soiled trousers, as well.
Rick your leader was defeated in WWII. His name was Hitler and you are preaching his beliefs.
This superior being who is funding the Santorum PAC is a big bag of wind. And a raging chauvinist. Excuse me, sir, but it takes two to tango. What's wrong with the dude doing the aspirin therapy? Yeah, thought so.
It ain't funny when you have to explain it to somebody that is too dumb to understand. For those of you that have had heterosexual coitus you know that in most cases such as the missionary position the man keeps his legs together more or less and slides himself in between the woman's legs. If the woman has the aspirin clasp between her knees and keeps it there the male will be unable to accomplish the proper position to accomplish penetration while if the male has the aspirin between his knees that would facilitate penetration. UNDERSTAND NOW OR DO WE NEED TO DRAW PICTURES FOR YOU?
Rick....you are deeply disturbed and hateful...have you ever thought of going into GOP politics....
Rick is a racist and a misogynist. His ravings clearly define him as an example of the sort of people who are prepared to embrace the failed political ideologies of the GOP.
It's shameful.
Bunch of nasty old, unwillingly celibate, ugly right wing men - can't get women's body parts off your minds, can you?
As opposed to a bunch of easy women who can't keep their legs shut long enough to save the money for their own birth control?
It takes two and you can bet it is the male that breeds and runs.
Republican commenter's. If you really feel strong about your views. Willing to come on here and defend your view points, why don't you also defend yourselves against those who are acting/commenting on your behalf. Take for example Rick312779, he's making a lot of racist and really nasty comments. These are being taken as representation of your views as a whole. Do you agree with Rick312779? Silence is a yes. Speak up or against these types of racist bigots. Show you have some humanity left in you as a Party. Can You?
Republicans, Rick312779 makes it easy for everyone to make a connection between Republicans and a fascination with racism types of society such as Hitler's Germany. The hateful intolerance is beyond normal for the Republican Party. It's reached a dangerous level where those in your party start to fill empowered to act out in violence. What has happened to Republicans? Now you are also attacking women. Amazing.
I say, keep putting a microphone in front of these guys!
I think it is time for everyone to click ignore this author on Rick.
AtheistLefty,
This is not the first time I had the displeasure to run into Rick312779, he does this same stuff on every board he gets on. I am truly hoping that the community will ban him. Like I said he is not on here to have a real debate, he is here to inflame and get a kick out of it. Answering him is what he's looking for. He usually has a few more friends with him, BoBO an Ssmithlg, and a few others, and they take over the boards with this garbage and hate. The Rick's hate it when you call them out for the Racist the are.
He is so easy to delete!
Where in my post did I disparage any race. Now I know the difference between a liberal and a racist. Racists tell you what they are up to up front. Liberals try to make their racism part of a "noble" cause
As far as PDug19 is concerned, I tried to enlighten him on another subject where he showed his ignorance but he chose to react with anger. And like the rest of you liberal hypocrites he is doing his level best to have me censored.
Get back on your meds.
Why didn't any one realize that the women are only getting pregnant because they just can't keep their legs shut? I think this guy is a good reason for castration so he can't reproduce and create more idiots like himself. This guy is as backwards as Henry the 8th who killed his wives because they didn't give him sons.
I vote that Sarah Palin keep a bayer aspirin between her lips.....forever....
Well, apparently many people are confused that not opening your legs works shockingly well. They really assume the only two options are "make someone pay for my pills" or "babies".
So far the idea hasn't worked out well for the Palins
This article is not about the Palins but you low life liberals can't resist an opportunity to take a cheap shot.
Too bad it did not work out for Palin's parents and Rick's for that matter. Oh, just kidding, that was a joke, NOT.
So, Rick, I take it that your mother was allergic to aspirin?
Hey Alexander, what YOU,a slug like Rick-312779,Darryl Issa and Rick (Mr. Frothy) Santorum and the rest of you Right Wing misogynists fail to realize is that there is a FOURTH option beyond a woman "keeping her legs closed", paying for her pills or babies...
...that would be men keeping it in their pants.
Did you forget that one or you just refuse to take any responsibility for men and their part in EVERY unwanted pregnancy on the face of the planet?
I think I have this gop race figured out....To start with, don't let anybody with a chance to win, run. Then take the 10 clowns that are left, and turn them loose on each other. One by one, they rise to the top only to be analysed and rejected. Each ruining his or her brand in the process. Now lets recap..Herman,a joke, same with Michelle,Ricky Ooops,Newty..etc,etc. Now there is only one person left with the name recognition to jump in and save the day...yep...read my posts from two weeks ago,I called it...Sarah is going to run !!! This will be the crowning moment of a perfectly pitiful performance by the GOP. It will result in the end of Sarah's political career, however pathetic it was,it will sink the GOP brand for years,it will cost the gop seats in both house and Senate, and most importantly,it will guarantee four more years of President Obama. God Bless you Sarah.
Pretty sure that President has it in the bag already. :-)
laura....I thought Jimmy Carter couldn't lose when he ran for a second term, and lost!
Make sure you vote for the President!!
A black man in the White House has a nice ring to it. I can't imagine what the remaining racists in the USA think about that!
There are people who will vote Democrat or Republican regardless who is running for that party.
Those that always vote Republican are coupled with the racists that would NEVER vote for a black man.
So the Republicans are going for the religious morons who vote on one issue, or morons in general.
I don't think they will have enough votes.
If this is a "right" in the "bedroom" then as a man, is it my right to have my dick in a girl? Where is my bitch! It's my RIGHT to @!$%# a girl!
People who can't afford contraceptives being told to do things besides having sex? Blasphemy!
Why should people have to pay for their own entertainment when we can make others pay for it instead!
But men should have their viagra prescriptions and their vasectomies paid for?
A simple question
I like simple, It get can be understood by a few Republicans
When is the last time someone,,,,ANYONE tried to force you to be gay? Have an abortion? Smoke a joint?
How is that any different than forcing women to carry an unwanted child due to a rape?
How is that any different than refusing to let gay people marry?
How is that any different than illegalizing marijuana?
The old standard of tax money going to abortions doesn't carry water any longer, The Catholic church accepted BILLIONS in taxpayers money this year alone, I do not want to support homosexual pedophiles, Yet, My tax money is going to Catholics!!!!
Hundreds of Republican politicians have been arrested over the past decade for homosexual pedophilia.
Hundreds of Catholic Priest have been arrested over the past decade for homosexual pedophilia
Apparently Religons and Conservatives have no use for birth control
I think it is about time we made Religon and Republicans ILLEGAL!!!!
Actually, the clerical pedophiles have all been heterosexuals. They get off molesting children without regard to gender.
Let the crazy 19th century Rightwingers/Biblethumpers keep it up with these stupid comments, the more they make the better. Being they actually believe all the lies told by Faux News and Rightwing hate radio, their brains are fried. They live in a land of non-reality that is centurys old. The more they talk, the more they turn off all women, minorities, gays and every Moderate and Independent. All they got left is their fellow Rightwing bronze age bigots who are a dying minority. These people are beyond pathetic, and are the worst examples of what a "true" Christian should be.
How come Bristol Palin didn't use the "aspirin" birth control tecnique? Shows what poor parenting she received! You betcha!
Thank you Foster Fries for demonstrating exactly why I felt I needed to
step in and teach the religious right wing section of the GOP which a lesson.
You comment about using "Aspirin for contraceptives" completely
misses the entire point of the debate and is meant to cheapen
the view of women. I tolerated some of the stupid Archie comments 20 years
ago when I was previously in the GOP because I felt that this country needs to incorporate
conservative values. However conservative values is not make snide dehumanizing
remarks about Hilary Clinton and Nacy Pelosi. It is about arguing the
Conservative view and why the conservative approach would have been a better solution.
The GOP party has been gradually loosing a 50% voting block because of this unwise hardline approach which will result in Barack Obama winning the 2012 election if they continue. I am many women are tired of this group. I throw my vote to Barack Obama currently until the religious right learns some manners or a leader from one of the other section of the GOP shows promise. If the GOP wants to sell the 2012 election they need an approach more like Morning Joe's which is a sound reason argument approach not a dehumanizing one.
Let me try to vocalize the real issue which is lost in the silly backhanded remarks. There is a
new product coming to market called Plan B which concerns all parents but even more so
the over protective parents in the religious right. There are 3 concerns with the product
1) It is not a preventative product, but get out of jail free card. It is to them a license to there daughter to have (unplanned for some) sex without suffering consequences.
They feel that this could lead to their daughters loosing their moral integrity and could
result in their daughters being promiscuous and losing something far worse their soul.
2) Are the medical concerns that if the emergency contraceptive is used after the recommended time the product may hurt a fetus and their daughter could pick up STDs
by being promiscuous. In the community the Plan B use correctly is probably ok if used correcly.
3) Also, there is an argument which most of the conservative that most of us agree with. We don't want to pay for someone else's unlimited use of get out of jail free cards. We are tired of paying across the board for someone else's unlimited get out of jail cards. The key word here is UNLIMITED.
Most conservative have accepted other women's birth control prescriptions before because they required planning, parent approval, and were not a get out of jail free card after each use. They we not a pill that could be and is sold over the counter. They think they had an abortion argument because of pamphlets sent out by and extreme pro-life group.
This group is extremely upset with Barack Obama changing where this product would be sold at
because it was supposed to go over the counter. If it went over the counter the other members
of the religious community could not keep an eye on purchases and watch for baby birds wandering
to far from the nest. They also feel that since the product was made free for their daughters (not them) 1) by being covered by the insurance and 2) that the ObGyn is now required to issue without parent approval they will loose their ability to guide their daughter back to a safer path.
However there is another more extreme pro-life group of individuals who do not officially associate
themselves with the GOP or the religious right but have extreme influence the religious right. This group has been pushing for the "life begins at conception" in order to battle this new product because they feel that the product will be misused and will result in the unthinkable abortion which they are amendmently opposed to. They are so opposed to abortion that they send annoying non stop phone calls to any doctor or factility that even remotely attempts to allow the abortion. In other words they are playing
a business move to make the product undesirable so they shut down availability. This would
have been easy to do for Plan B because it was supposed to go over the counter and they are very good at pushing pressure on businesses to decide what products they will and will not offer by offending customers with bad advertising. They did and are still doing this to Planned Parenthood.
Barack Obama was not trying to upset the religious right but he was trying to protect some young women who were raped or in situations where the young woman would have a far more severe punishment from her family such as death if found out from a phone call greeting group or wound up on the news or on a medical bill. These cases are the target audience for the Plan B. So the prescription coverage was added to protect these girls and to keep the store market from being closed not to provide all girls with get out of jail free card.
The Catholic group from religious right is trying to argue religious convictions, but was forced to take extreme stance on birth control because of legal definitions because they are preparing to go to court. They are all not usually this rude, but they have been upset with the Affordable Care Act and the presumption it presents that the US government knows best how to take care of their daughters.
I was trying to present a case to the religious right and some extreme-pro life that they should perhaps review their hard stances and to stop being rude or they would loose the 50A% women voting block and their hard views were causing kids to not seek or be able to seek help they needed.
In this case Barack Obama tripped on his own Affordable Healthcare Act. Barack Obama added the original birth control law in order to allow the undeserved area women to start to get them again. Those victims lost their ability to get that care because the extreme pro-life group shut down the facilities they were using (Planned Parenthood) which got funding as part of a bill Richard Nixon (a Republican) signed into law. Also Barack is forcing everyone to provide the service and coverage because he is trying to hide the target from the extreme-pro-life. I stepped in because I do not want to see this children hurt anymore than they already have been and I do not want to see attacks move over to all ObGyn which are already far too low in numbers in the country. This again is thank to the tactics of the extreme-pro-life.
Most of us conservatives find the Affordable Healthcare Act over reaching with its application of who must provide what and cover what. It overly complicates the issue. If Barack Obama had taken a less government intrusive approach by talking to the business leaders, the business community could have put financial pressure on the religious based medical facilities in the undeserved areas, by adding customer friendly non religious facilities which would help put pressure on the religious community to back down because this problem is a typical problem seen between competitors in the business world. Also the business community funds through charities many of the religious facilities in these areas and I think the business community may be able to reevaluate funding as a leverage for negations if the unbending extremes continue with their position. However that is just my thought on the issue.
The religious right has an opportunity to do something for the people (not the government) by defining what is in the religious opinion on acceptable use of plan B for their flocks. If the definition appears to be a rational well thought out, reasoned and based on facts which everyone woman can check the religious right would be doing everyone a great service without costing the US government anything. Just my opinion. This is not the government asking this is the women section of the religious flocks who want to be heard.
takingmiddleground
The only problem with that that conservatives will be presenting a rational well thought out, reasoned and based on facts plan to irrational, knee jerk reactionaries who could not care less about facts.
Before I make my decision on how to proceed, I would like to see a policy which reflects that the religious organizations support Plan B in limited use to emergency contraception. I would like to see that emergency use always includes rape, abuse and is limited to some number of times out per year. You can state that other stuff ... with something like we understand that our definition can only be used by our flock, but are willing to accept the broader definition for other congregations and we frown upon inflicting our view of this onto other congregations. You could also add that we would keep a compassionate eye out on a case by case basis where needed.
If I see a statement like this, then I know and I think other women watchers will know that they are not threatened by the churches stance. I think that would also be a good starting point for negotiating with Elizabeth Warren and other female members of congress a solution which includes a women's point of view which all organizations can follow on the birth control. I believe this is a solution that most in the pro-life side would agree with too and most in the pro-choice as well which would allow that rift to heal. If we work together I believe having Plan B come in the US will help greatly reduce the number of times the option which no one likes abortions even brought into heated debates. However I understand that the pro-life movement is concerned with making sure it is only used for emergency contraception. I think this is the best interest in everyone and I feel that it would help restore some of the faith that has been dwindling in both the ability of the people to control their destiny and restore the faith in the congregation of the religious organizations that they are treating women as equal citizens with a right to be heard.
I will then get off the topic unless I see additional attempts to undermine medical services from women in this country.
I would then like to see a discussion around Sarbanes Oxyley and reducing the number requirement in it. I understand that it intention was to provide stability to the stock market, however the number of regulations in the plan are requiring a high cost on start up companies which have not been able to use the funding the public market usually supplies to them. I believe working on this regulation to reduce it to needed regulation without extra paperwork would help reduce the requirement for small businesses to get to market which will encourage job growth. However I will just be watching on that issue.
Just currious if there is a way to contact business community.
You wonder why Rightwing white males are SO "angry" all the time? Because they seldom are able to get laid. Besides they get all the ugly, stupid ignorant women! Most are a bad lay!
santorum is a whack-job! ban birth control in the country?!?! = more hiv virus' spread and more people on welfare that can't afford even more children. republicans like him want smaller goverment, but they're gonna tell us to reproduce even if we don't want to? talk about a bunch of hypocrites! rick santorum is stuck in the Ward Cleaver days back in the 60's. i hope he wins the nomination.....soooo much easier for obama to win. i know good ole rick won't win pennsylvania....we could't wait to get rid of him.
So YOU would be ok with those on welfare being sterilized?
They did that in the South in the mid 20th century. Shameful. Read your history.
Rick cheered the sterilization actions taken in the South and encourages the government to restart this program for certain peoples.
Oh look,it's our little Hitler-wanna-be Rick the ignoramus.
Rick...where in the Blue Hell do you read ANYTHING in works for a living's post that reads even remotely like he advocates forcible sterilization of the poor (i.e.--at least in your diseased and feeble little mind---minorities---see post #233 at the top of this page)?
That's YOUR sick little fantasy Rick.
Works was railing against Santorum's and the Rights open hostility towards contraceptives and the explosion of unwanted pregnancies we would have here in this country were these ignorant fools to get their way.
You are truly an idiot.
Santorum says his supporters' remarks do not reflect on him. Oh, yes, they do, Sir. This is a prime example of how supporters back the candidate they believe 'thinks' as they do.
Asprin between the kness was suppose to be a joke. It is being analyzed to death.
It is a really bad offensive ignorant joke that reflects very badly on Santorum and the religious right as a whole.
Make a stupid remark then say it was a joke, yeah right. No, below the remark is the true meaning. It is only up to women to control conception with no help from any type of contraception and men get a free pass. This man, like most Republicans, is a 19th century chauvenist that wants to control women and their bodies because they are AFRAID THEY ARE LOSING THE POWER THAT OLD WHITE MEN HAVE HELD FOR FAR TO LONG.
By the way thank you Nancy Pelosi and Elizabeth Warren for backing me up on the No taxation without Representation on rules that affect women. To women birth control is not about sex. It is about the high risk imposed by pregnancy which are only imposed on women not men. If we are able to control when the pregnancy occurs we are so overjoyed with the rewards that we are happy to take the risk.
An actual benefit of Citizens United? Look at the imbeciles it exposes. Not the intent of SCOTUS yet it is good for that and only that.
That guy is CREEPY, GROSS, OLD-SCHOOL. I can see why Santo did not "approve" his message, LOL
I guess the joke about aspirin was meant to be funny but thats what the catholic church has been telling women for years. To bad aspirin can't cure stupid they couldn't keep it on the shelves
You are the worst form of an idiot. Catholics were questioned by people in the 50s about contraception and the joke was aspirin between the knees was the Catholic form of contraception. We laughed at the joke. Whenever, anyone commented on my large family by asking, if I was Catholic, I would say no I am a passionate Protestant. You must have slept through the third grade. Wake up.
I am really beginning to think that men are afraid of women. They want to keep us "down on the farm." Trust me, we will not allow that. More women than men graduate from high school or college. They are probably smarter any day than guys like I saw on that panel and Issa. He is a real jerk. Guys, mind your own biological business. We now how to deal with ours.
Apparently you have never gone past third grade. I was fighting for women's rights before you were born. I raised five daughters and taught them that women are equal to men. They are all well educated. I fought to get women off the directors couch, while I also taught them screwing your way to the top was not the answer either. Women have the choice to have sex or not, but both sex partners have a responsibility to each other. The pill is a form of contraception, however, it is not 100% full proof, it has possible side effects and it does not prevent disease. So go right ahead, do your thing, just do not require me to have ins that provides that pill. You want it you pay for it. Better yet instead of falling for "if you loved me you would" BS you would counter "if you love me you would wear a condom and get a snip snip. Spreading your legs is your stupid choice.
