The Santorum supporter comments on the culture wars over contraception use saying, "Back in my days, they [woman] used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives."
Foster Friess -- a prominent Santorum supporter and one of the chief benefactors of a pro-Santorum Super PAC -- today made a statement on contraception that's already raising plenty of eyebrows.
Friess told NBC's Andrea Mitchell on "Andrea Mitchell Reports":
This contraceptive thing, my gosh, it's so inexpensive. Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly.
The obvious suggestion by Friess: that women should put an aspirin between their legs so they don’t open them.

Hugely important point: I was prescribed birth control pills by my Ob/Gyn when I was 17 years old. Not because I was having sex, but because my hormones had not naturally started my menstration. The medicine allowed me to transition through the puberty process much more easily. I was on the pill and a virgin for 5 years! And then, around 26 years of age I had broken up with my boyfriend and was celibate for another 3 years. And in that time, I was prescribed a different birth control pill in order to help alleviate the symptoms of PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder) and acne. Again, three more years of being healthy and happy on the pill without using it as a form of birth control.
We MUST recognize that "the pill" is not just a contraceptive. It is a very useful and necessary medicine for millions and millions of women. It should be covered, just as a statin drug would be. End of discussion.
Ironcially, it turns out that I am not able to naturally bear children anyway. So I say to BRIAN: Just because I am not able to concieve a child, that does not mean that I am going against the natural order of things. For some reason, whether you believe it was God's choice or just an unfortunate genetic oops, I will still not be able to have a child. God created gay men and women as well. Not all of us were meant to procreate. Some of us were just meant to live meaningful lives and love as much as possible without leaving any heirs.
You may not understand gay, and you know what? They don't understand you either. But you have to let go of the hate. These are sane, productive, loving, wonderful people who are making the courageous choice to love who they love. And it's ok, because God made them that way.
A life controlled by 18th century religions is NOT leading a meaningful life!
I suppose "contraception" and "married couple" would be an oxymoron to this ... moron.
Probably would never occur to him that MEN would prefer to limit the number of babies they have, too.
But of course, that wouldn't cross the mind of a man who is rolling like a pig in wealth. And whose wife always changed the diapers.
Friess: fat, white, old, and stupid...what a surprise. Poster boy for the tea party.
PEOPLE HAVE SEX.
People (especially teenagers) will have sex no matter what, birth control or no birth control. It blows my mind that people think taking away contraception will stop people from having sex. Are they going to outlaw condoms as well?
This debate is so ridiculous. Teenage pregnancy will skyrocket if contraception is taken away. Way to go.
Also, not all women take birth control to avoid pregnancy. I was on birth control at 15 to help regulate my cycles. Not so I could have all the sex I wanted. Some women need birth control.
Why do men think they have a right to take away something that is solely a women's health issue? Don't like birth control? Good, then don't take it! It's as simple as that.
As for the old argument - "Don't want a baby? Don't have sex!" What about people that don't want children ever? Are they supposed to never have sex? Sex is fun, and it feels good.
Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Mitt Romney want to sexually repress our society more than it already is. Sex is a beautiful thing. Government has no place in the bedroom.
Things these people say, I swear... Makes me want to tear my hair out! It's beyond frustrating. Let people do what they want! As long as they aren't hurting anyone, why does it matter? Come join the rest of us in the 21st century people. This is not the 1950's, as much as you would like it to be. The youth of this nation are tired of grumpy old men running the show, and running it into the ground. I'm anxiously waiting for our turn at a revolution.
Kids will have sex without birth control unless it is readily availible. Even then it will be skipped over half the time. If you put a girl on birthcontrol most teenagers think that it will be fine to have sex without a condom...hence the STD's running rampent.
Birth Control Pills don't cause STD's
I saw that interview - it left Andrea Mitchell speachless! Foster Friess is proof that wealth and intelligence are not necessarily found in the same place.
I thought it was funny. people are way to sensitive. he was joking...
How about that conservative Darrel Issa House Republican & Lawyer?
Chairs a partisan investigative committee on birth control & tells the women witnesses they aren't allowed to speak!
They say 50% are against free contraceptive care, many of those are women. I am asking do you have any knowledge about it? Or you using Bayer aspirin for contraceptives between your knees?
I cant live without my birth control pills, I am paying for it $75 (because I can). This pill helps me with severe migraines and hormonal dysfunctions. I know a women with tight up tubes, that takes birth control pills, because it helps her with her health.
Women in America have to educate themselves about this issue.
What gets me is women who say they would rather pay for them, that is hard to fathom no matter how they spin it
These are the same women who will stomp you to death to be 1st through the doors for Christmas shopping sales
I agree women need to educate themselves about these issues. But, women need to educate men, particularly the right wing religious element of the GOP about these issues.
All the while economic worries overshadowed cultural issues, these neanderthals managed to get voted into office - not to fix the economy (they haven't done anything about that) but to reassert control over women, their choices and their lives. They oppose abortion, but now they oppose the best means of preventing abortions: Contraception. And they are mandating mechanical rape of a woman who wants to exercise her right to choose as allowed by law.
Most of the people in this country (women and men) who finally see the lengths these people will go to to reassert control over the most private behavior of their fellow citizens need to find out who voted for this crap and vote them back out to be replaced by legislators who actually do trust their constituents and are interested in protecting their rights - not the rights of any church.
His God, that's appalling. Keep it up, Republicans. Maybe you can get your share of the female vote down to 20%.
Where are they finding all of these cretins?
It's just frightening.
@Brianb-999431 You wrote: "Homosexuality is not normal. I don't care what you want to call it... men were built for women, and women were built for men. The parts fit. Homosexuality cannot produce offspring. That's natural law! How is that tied to religion? Homosexuals pervert the natural law... and notice nothing I said was religious in nature."
So, if homosexuality has nothing to do with religion, why does the catholic church seem obsessed with them? The church has gone so far as to produce and distribute anti-gay DVD's to their sheeple. The current pope and his ilk claimed to have done a 10-year study on why there is so much pedophilia in the priesthood. Their conclusion was, "there are too many homosexuals joining the priesthood." That is an absolute falsification, based on no statistics whatsoever. That's the predetermined outcome of their biased "study". Concerning contraception, the church's defiance of Obama's policy is an archaic remnant of a bunch of guys that never had sex, determining how everyone else should have sex. Have you heard of the "missionary position" and its origins?
Rick's a hypocrite! with all those kids i doubt if he was denying himself sexual pleasure seems to me he down right enjoyed it. Now Rick we are not invading your bedroom telling how to have sex with your wife so we wont allow you to tell us. Maybe when you were a kid and walked in on your parents enjoying a romp in the hay you became offended i can suggest some very competent psychiatrist to talk to about your problem. What in the world are you religious nut jobs thinking. God speaks very well for Himself and does not need you nor anyone else to speak for Him, next you'll be saying a cock roach on the toilet seat told you God wanted you to fish a large turd from toilet and force your family to eat it or kill them all that's what comes out of blind faith.
This is exactly why Santorum, won't get elected!!!
Did God say anything about Birth Control Pills? I don't think so
But he did say something about divorce, he turned Adam's only wife Lilith into a snake when she asked god to grant her one.... Which should also tell you that God just wants you to shack up & wasn't such a "Marriage Freak" as conservatives think
That is such a load of crap. Where do you get your stories from' Fables and folklore". Any old excuse to make you feel better about your bad choices. You will believe anything. ANY lie to make you feel better.
To Jim..""
And didn't he say something about spilling ones seed on the ground..
Where did I get the story from? --- Nobody special, just the Jews, it was their story to begin with
And in Jim's bible... we were all one sex and one race and eveolved in to two separte sexes and multiple races. Now his god wants us to all mate togeather and try to become one again...
To..Concerned"""
I don't think I'm gonna try that..
Maybe that group of old white men could use the[ AS PIRIN ]where the sun doesn't shine to keep these old Fogies from one of their PLAYGROUNDS.
Why would a candidate, any candidate, want to have a billionaire backer (Santorum and Gingrich) paying their bills? And they (the backers) want me to believe they are not trying to "buy" an election? Please. Thank you Supreme Court for defining a corporation as a person and allowing unlimited and unaccounted for hundreds of millions of dollars to be pumped into the state and national elections only to throw political rhetorical mud. I don't want to debate or hear debates about politics; I want to discuss and hear about solutions to the so many problems this nation must address. Get rid of the Super Pacs by abolishing the law that allow them to thrive without identifying the individuals or corporations who fund them.
In order to do that 5 of the SCOTUS members need to go... as they should...
There is one contraception measure Friess's wife wants to use on him, its called the Bobbitt procedure....
I just fell off my chair laughing!!!
BrianB - just to further torment your twisted mind, in 2006 the Norwegian Natural History Museum of the University of Oslo hosted the first exhibition that focuses on homosexuality in the animal kingdom.
"One fundamental premise in social debates has been that homosexuality is unnatural. This premise is wrong. Homosexuality is both common and highly essential in the lives of a number of species," explains Petter Boeckman, who is the academic advisor for the "Against Nature's Order?" exhibition.
The most well-known homosexual animal is the dwarf chimpanzee, one of humanity's closes relatives. The entire species is bisexual. Sex plays an conspicuous role in all their activities and takes the focus away from violence, which is the most typical method of solving conflicts among primates and many other animals.
"Sex among dwarf chimpanzees is in fact the business of the whole family, and the cute little ones often lend a helping hand when they engage in oral sex with each other."
Lions are also homosexual. Male lions often band together with their brothers to lead the pride. To ensure loyalty, they strengthen the bonds by often having sex with each other.
Homosexuality is also quite common among dolphins and killer whales. The pairing of males and females is fleeting, while between males, a pair can stay together for years. Homosexual sex between different species is not unusual either. Meetings between different dolphin species can be quite violent, but the tension is often broken by a "sex orgy".
Homosexuality is a social phenomenon and is most widespread among animals with a complex herd life.
yep, it is natures way of killing off the "weak" ones and strenghthening the pack...the strongest go on to mate while the other ones die off... :)
Umm...concerned, no it isn't. The same animals who mate with same sex members of the group often go on to reproduce. Good try though. Many gay and lesbian humans have children, too...but nice try;)
Oh, and the topic is contraception, not whether someone is gay or not.
Welcome to the theocracy America! Perhaps we would have been better off under King George III.
People need to get a life and stop being so sensitive. I thought what he said was funny. You cant say anything without some backlash uproar with the media. PLEASE!
Get over it, get a life, toughen up a little your sensitive pansey whimps! It was a joke and it was funny.
It was funny,,,, But it's funnier to know Santorum is backed by "Stupid Rich Folks"
Sorry - it's not a joke to the likes of Friees and his ilk. Unfortunately they are serious.
???Stupid rich folks???
I know plenty of people that are backing him that are anything but stupid, and not considered rich.
I don't think Santorum would be a good president, but i kinda like the guy.
You like all you want. He isn't messing with your body and your rights. I'm not surprised. And you most likely treat all teh women in your life with respect, too...not.
here's a novel idea, WTF does contraception or a candidates attitude have to with running as president?
NOTHING! its BS, class and men vs women warfare. how about how they PLAN to reduce the deficit, improve US economy, deal w immigration and foreign policy? those are issues that affect our of our lives. Contraception, gay marriage, abortion or just empty talking points to get idiots to vote by their emotions and beliefs rather than good judgement. These bozo candidates might as well run on their taste in music, bcz hey, if you don't like Journey, you cant possibly American.
And im sick of reading about how ppl want to call being gay as natural law, hahaha. they exist dont they, well, that IS part of nature. and BTW, calling them anything and argueing it as wrong is just your stupid opinion. I dont care about who gets a fkn abortion or whos having sex with whom and really if your concerned about that than you need to get a life and off of your republican 'My way or the HWY' BS.
They just want to stir the pot and focus on emotional/moral issues which has no place in gov't...Haha, politicians talking about morality is THE sickest joke. they want us to get all riled up over non-sense issues instead of seeing how empty and moronic these candidates are. they are all bought and paid for puppets.
Wow. Sounds like something a progressive Taliban would say.
This mindset is THE WAY with this GOP with every issue! I care about my fellow man and cringe to hear these constant insults to women, blacks, liberals and wage-earners and so many others. 'Barack the Magic Negro' is one song these people live their life by. NO WAY!
Look America---this is your doing all the way. Voting does matter. This is how Nazis start.
Lest we omit the assault against the middle class, working poor and our sick and elderly and the outrageous privileges and powers granted to this nation’s wealthiest.
My God, please vote out these sick people. We will never see eye-to-eye. Never.
Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive. OBAMA and SENATE and HOUSE 2012 .
QUOTE: "This contraceptive thing, my gosh, it's so inexpensive. Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly."
I can't believe that conservative America has lost respect for reality to the extent that it has. "To the best of our knowledge as an intellectual community" has ceased to exist for these guys.
I think the breaking point for American excellence was electing George W Bush. He believed that "knowing in your heart" was equivalent to doing scientific studies and having the results analyzed by highly educated experts. Either we break free from this kind of **** or America is destined for third world status. It's as simple as that.
I don't know but Santorum just creeps me out..
Father First, Senator Second
For Rick Santorum, Politics Could Hardly Get More Personal
By Mark Leibovich
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, April 18, 2005;
In his Senate office, on a shelf next to an autographed baseball, Sen. Rick Santorum keeps a framed photo of his son Gabriel Michael, the fourth of his seven children. Named for two archangels, Gabriel Michael was born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the womb.
Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.

I know, that's really creepy. If you or I did that, we would find ourselves in a padded room. But, I guess it is ok if you are a senator and of the "right" persuasion.
Given a little encouragement and power, this will be our nation. Their Supreme Court will rule in their favor. If you protest, be prepared to be shackled in the town square.
