Former Bachmann spokeswoman heads to Santorum campaign

WASHINGTON -- Alice Stewart, who served as communications director for Michele Bachmann's failed presidential campaign, has been named national press secretary for one of her former boss' chief rivals – Rick Santorum.

The hire comes at a time when Santorum's campaign is touting a spike in momentum and money after winning races in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri on Tuesday.

The Republican presidential hopeful has pulled in more than $3 million in contributions since the three-state victory.

"He's right on the issues and hasn't flipped flopped on the issues," Stewart said of the former Pennsylvania senator.  "People are starting to recognize that. He didn't come to the game like Romney did with the name ID that Romney had."

Stewart will serve under the direction of national communications director Hogan Gidley. In the previous campaign cycle, they both worked for 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's political action committee, HuckPAC.

Santorum often jokes that he runs his campaign on a "shoestring budget," and even when money began to come in after his Iowa caucus victory, his staff remained small compared to those of his rivals.

The candidate frequently travels without any members of his communications staff, which has on occasions led to logistical problems and miscommunication between media and the campaign.

"We always planned to staff up when the time is right, and the time is right," said Gidley. But he also cautioned, "We'll never be the bureaucratic, DC behemoth that Mitt Romney's campaign is … that's not what Rick Santorum is. He won’t surrounded by handlers."

The development reflects a split among senior veterans of the Bachmann campaign, who have remained friendly while being hired in separate directions.

Two members of Bachmann's staff went to work for Mitt Romney in the days after Bachmann left the race – including high-profile debate coach Brett O'Donnell.

(O'Donnell apparently split abruptly from Romney's staff last week.)

Reached by telephone Saturday night, Stewart said her move does not indicate that her former boss will endorse her new one.

"She's made it clear she's not in any hurry to endorse," Stewart said about Bachmann.

Bachmann dropped out of the race Jan. 4, one day after finishing last among the candidates competing in the Iowa caucuses.

Stewart will likely begin her new job next week when Santorum travels to Michigan.

Meanwhile, inside a Republican's mind:

"That is terrrrrific news!! She can do the same thing for Santorum's campaign that she did for Bachmann's."

"Errrrrr,.......wait a minute."

Hi Feisty! **X0 ** I see the "A" team is on the field this morning!! :o)

We will need to muster all hands in the first election to be bought by the Citizen's United Decision! I feel privileged indeed to fight by your side. :o)

Repubs did a cannonball early into the CU cash pool. Pres. Obama has a whole lot of catching up to do. Unfortunately, Michigan is next in line for the truth perversion machine known as the repub candidate clown parade. We can expect the lie tsunami to be hitting our fair shores soon. They're coming.

Through it all it will be a tough sell for a party that wanted to exterminate Detroit and its uncounted millions of jobs. I don't expect that line to play well here. Even repubs would'nt have the stones to stand on a stage and say,..."Hey,...vote for me cause I,...uhhhhh,...wanted to wipe you out and sell your kids for medical experiments,...whadye' say,...deal?"

**crickets** torches and clubs appearing,........

If ANY repub candidate wants to campaign in this state they'd better keep the effin' engine running on the armored tour bus!!

Just saying.

Good to "tussel it up" with you again shuggah. xo

I thought republicans were crazy when they pretended to be pro-life and pro-war at the same time.

But this, Sanatorium is against birth control. Republicans seems to think it is their right to limit women's health care and then have the nerve to call it freedom.

Look at what they are doing in Michigan. Taking away your rights of voting for representation and replacing it with a republican governor appointed all powerful city dictators that have no responsibility to respond to needs or wants of the people.

Just some more of that good old freedom the republicans love to talk about so much.

Michigan's Tea Party governor took a right turn into Soviet style governing. His team of bureaucrat czars are now attempting to overthrow the elected officials of the states largest city. They already grabbed power over other municipalities. In one case they decided too take away Benton Harbor's lake shore beach park, the only park the city has, and give the land to developers to construct a PGA golf course and luxury summer homes for Chicago's millionaires. Club membership dues per year are 50% of the average annual income of resident families. The property was donated to the city in perpetuity in 1917 by a couple that wanted the land to be the city's permanent recreation park in the name of their deceased daughter. For 95 years city residents used the park for all the typical events a community normally has, as well as swimming beach in the summer.

Stealing from the relatively poor and giving to the rich is a Tea Party thing. Dismissing the elected mayor and city council is also an earmark of Tea Party democracy and local government control. Hitler could not have been more helpful in his early days.

It's a great story. If only it were that simple. Or true.

There's much that Maddow didn't mention, beginning with the fact that Harris was appointed not by Pscholka or Republican Gov. Rick Snyder, but by former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat.

That occurred, incidentally, after a state review found the city's pension system was underfunded by $4 million, its cash reserves dwindled from $1.7 million to $300,000 in three years and the city was spending between $80,000 to $100,000 annually in overdraft fees. The same week that Benton Harbor officials forcefully told state officials at a hearing that they didn't need an emergency financial manager, they had to ask the state treasury for an advance on funds to make their payroll.

What happened last week: Harris notified the Benton Harbor City Commission and other city boards that he's using the revamped law to assume dictatorial powers over city operations.

Ah always two sides of a story.......you think Madow told the whole truth?

Santorum already has enough problems. The first time he says something about Napoleon's defeat at Gettysburg, the Bachman thing will have begun. His armor is badly dented from his Crusade against women's contraception and cancer prevention. He barely stopped short of calling for an Inquisition.Purdue University would have been tried for heresy, along with 28 states that have been living with the same coverage requirement for many years. However, the governor of Wisconsin, one of those states, will be politically excommunicated as soon as the recall election is over.

Scott Walker is the winner of the Miss Conception crown. Calling school teachers thugs and outsiders is like stepping on apple pie.

That doesn't change the fact that he won primaries, even with his voting record as a Senator. That there are people terrified enough of the bogeyman threats Republicans perpetuate with their daily lies to legitimately vote for a man as un-American as Rick Santorum should give us all reason to stop and consider the dire straits the country exists in.

In fact I'm getting ready to order the champagne for when the Democrats retake the House. America's seen what the repubs have done with it, and they aren't pleased.

President Obama is a re-election shoe in. Once people get a good look at the contrast between him and the Kooks running on the GNOP side it'll be over quick. At least it'll be fast and merciful for you right wing ding-a-lings.

Romney wants to outsource your job to countries he can't even pronounce, think companies are people and belongs to what evangelical repubs think is a cult.

Gingrich is a one-eyed trouser trout who is morally bankrupt even for Washington, and was kicked to the curb once by his own party.

Santorum prays over dead fetuses, and got "unelected" by his party in Pennsylvania as well.

Not much to choose from there dude. There is no there there. I think America will figure out who was driving the last time the United States crashed as bounce you freaks out of office just like 2006 and 2008.

I think this election is going to be the two of less evils. Do people want four more years of what's going on or something fresh and if Romney is nominated that it would be a fresh start. If Newt or another person is nominated, I'm sitting this one out.

It's pretty sad when 1 out of 5 receive some type of Government assistance. That average is around 34K a year. I guess if you're one of the five that receives the free money you wouldn't vote against the person that is giving you a handout.

Bush's tax cuts have been operating for over 10 years now. So when's the "jobs" part kick in?

GM stock has to be at least $53 a share to break even with the American tax payer. I think GM stock is at around $26. So my money his spent and gone for nothing except to let the UAW live for a few years more.

Things are turning around but the recession ended in 2009, why are we still hurting in 2012? It's never taken this long to get out of a recession. It's all about the policies in place now.

It's all about the policies in place now.

Table was set by the GNOP decades ago. Ford did take $7 billion from a little-known fund that helps distressed companies,...fact.

If Chrysler and GM were not saved how much $$$$ do you think 2 million unemployed people would drain from the social safety net and unemployment every year? Who would gain from that? Would you pull over for a Toyota cop car?

Ignorant people have no awareness how crucial the domestic Big 3 are to this nation, its economy, and it's defense capability.

Think you'd be unaffected? Think again. How many Michigan / Midwest snow birds do you think spend those Union-negotiated wages on Florida vacations? There now,....starting to dawn on you now isn't it? Thought so.

Michigan's Big 3 holds the rest of the Midwest together sonny. Face it. Embrace it. Personally, I think the entire Midwest should boycott the South and go to California for a vacation. Let you people freeze in the dark on your oily beaches.

S'cuse me. I gotta' hit the sack so I can go to work and support more republican billionaires.

        We Need a Second Party

WATCHING the Republican Party struggling to agree on a presidential candidate, one wonders whether the G.O.P. shouldn’t just sit this election out — just give 2012 a pass.

        Josh Haner/The New York Times

        Thomas L. Friedman

You know how in Scrabble sometimes you look at your seven letters and you’ve got only vowels that spell nothing? What do you do? You go back to the pile. You throw your letters back and hope to pick up better ones to work with. That’s what Republican primary voters seem to be doing. They just keep going back to the pile but still coming up with only vowels that spell nothing.

There’s a reason for that: Their pile is out of date. The party has let itself become the captive of conflicting ideological bases: anti-abortion advocates, anti-immigration activists, social conservatives worried about the sanctity of marriage, libertarians who want to shrink government, and anti-tax advocates who want to drown government in a bathtub.

Sorry, but you can’t address the great challenges America faces today with that incoherent mix of hardened positions. I’ve argued that maybe we need a third party to break open our political system. But that’s a long shot. What we definitely and urgently need is a second party — a coherent Republican opposition that is offering constructive conservative proposals on the key issues and is ready for strategic compromises to advance its interests and those of the country.

Without that, the best of the Democrats — who have been willing to compromise — have no partners and the worst have a free pass for their own magical thinking. Since such a transformed Republican Party is highly unlikely, maybe the best thing would be for it to get crushed in this election and forced into a fundamental rethink — something the Democrats had to go through when they lost three in a row between 1980 and 1988. We need a “Different Kind of Republican” the way Bill Clinton gave us a “Different Kind of Democrat.”

Because when I look at America’s three greatest challenges today, I don’t see the Republican candidates offering realistic answers to any of them.

gopie, my conservative columnists are smarter, more relevant, more knowledgeable, and get invited to more parties than your trolls! Being carrot tops lapdog is turning your mind to mush.... (not that it was very solid before carrot top, lol!)

          left,

"conservative" and "smart" are never used in the same sentence.

Carpenter7 is right. Did you have a relevant comment? If you want I can help you with some of the bigger words.

And I would rather be in Feisty's lap than the lap of an obvious re-reg who is trying to evade detection. You sound like Booby.

Please come back here on November 8th, 2012 so I can spend the day laughing at you. :o)

left, ignore gop, he's nothing but a weak clone of his president, flip flops and mis information. And, as you say, he is so confused that he has to look up to carrot top! A meaningful discussion with him is not possible!

So another GOP Clown/Zombie moves from one GOP Circus Tent of "Bitchy Bachmann." Which is folded up already. To another GOP Clown, who is so intolerant of others that he could never be President. The GOP Elephants are still dancing in poltical, economic, and cultural circles. Again!

Well, there goes the Santoram campaign !!!! It really goes to show just how bad Santoram is as a politician. Having anyone from the Bachmann side should be a sure sign of problems !!!!
