At CPAC, Jindal revives attack on Obama administration over oil spill recovery

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana addresses activists from America's political right at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington on Saturday.

WASHINGTON – Speaking before an audience of Republican activists Saturday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal blasted the Obama administration over its response to the 2010 BP oil spill in the gulf, saying Obama officials “wasted precious time while that oil was coming in to our coast.”

The remarks came at the conclusion of his speech at CPAC, the annual gathering of Republican activists held here in Washington.

“They wasted precious time while that oil was coming in to our coast,” Jindal said. “They refused to listen to the people who lived along the coast that knew better than all the experts.”

Jindal – whose state was hit hardest by the spill – was a central figure in the recovery effort.  His criticism, first expressed in his book, "Leadership and Crisis," represents a stinging rebuke of a Democratic administration with which he was partnered throughout the recovery effort.

“You’ve had a lot of speakers come up here and talk to you about the importance of this year’s election,” Jindal said, before adding that he wanted to offer “one more reason” why the election is important.

“What I saw and what I heard were people that were maybe very, very book smart, but had never run anything in the private sector,” Jindal continued.

“During our regular meetings and calls, the president would talk regularly about his “Nobel Prize-winning energy secretary.’  I’d begin to think that was part of his title,” Jindal said, refering to Energy Secretary Steven Chu.  “I didn’t understand what that had to do with stopping the oil from coming to our coast.”

(Chu won a Nobel Prize in 1997, for physics; Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.)

Jindal’s attack represents another expression of a complaint about an elite or out-of-touch White House that has marked many of the CPAC speeches throughout the three days here.

Much of Jindal’s speech prior to the remarks concerned privatizing and reforming public education in Louisiana, an effort which he said would involve expanding charter schools and scholarships, and cracking down on underperforming teachers.

“For the ineffective teachers that refuse to get better, maybe they should look into another profession.  Maybe they don’t belong in the classroom anyway,” Jindal said.

New Orleans received 20 Billion Dollars from Federal Government for Katrina.

Please find out the population ( families and individuals that owned houses before Katrina)

You will find at least $150,000 for each

Not enough they say poor me gimme mo money

Same story with BP oil spill

need more money

You can tell a person from Louisiana they got their hand out saying poor meu owe me

Several people heard the loud ka-booms when they blew the dyke in New Orleans. No investigation. Anyone by chance check the ex-mayors bank account.

Take it from someone who lived in Louisiana for years - Jindal is a joke. He is just another career politician who cares only about his own ego and power. Before the spill, Jindal and the majority of Louisiana residents were absurd oil-apologists. They worship the oil companies there and make excuses for them - as long as the problem is in someone else's backyard. Now that their love for oil has come back to haunt them, they attack Obama. I guess we should expect nothing less from a state full of uneducated racists.

And sending in a horse breeder to take care of Katrina was a stroke of genius!!! Genius I tells you genius! Where were the repubs with their criticism when that happened? The only solution for them is "Drill baby drill". More BP disasters and the oil taken out goes on the open market--not for exclusive use for America.

So the Democrats are lambasted because it was a Nobel Laureate working for the Potus. If I remember correctly "Brownie", the appointee of DUHbya, left a job having something to do with race horses to become the head of FEMA. Yah, shure. Stupid Democrats.

Jindal, another anchor baby shooting his lying BS out. He can try and convince the baggers his history is correct, but like the comment 1.1 said, it's on video tape.

Yes, why didn't Obama stop that oil. It was a simple matter to stop it. Why didn't he do it? Because he's a Kenyan socialist intellectual that hates America, that's why. hahahaha. Jindal IS such a sleazebag ... and a real goof-ball to boot ... a card-carrying member of the GOP Liars Club.

If it was a simple matter, why didn't BP do it right away? Lets see... poor drilling techniques, sub-standard blowout preventors, purjury on safety reports, lying to the Fed's on how bad the spill was, the BP list is endless. They got themselves in over their head at the start.

Ooops, forgot one: BP's certification of having a spill emergency crew in the region. Yeah, a half a continent away and in port for major repairs

Procrustes, haven't you learned yet that some of the DINO's are like the baggers, they don't like Obama. What was Obama suppose to do, dive down to the bottom and all by his lonesome, plug up the well that BP and Cheney's company screwed up on?

Tell us how he should have handled it. What would you have done different? I can see the outrage now if Obama would have had a horse trader working as head of FEMA. Then I could understand the outrage, remember NOLA and Brownie? Some people remember that mess.

Another Republican blowhard gasbag who makes no sense. Even the engineers at BP couldn't come up with a fool-proof solution over the course of many months. And just HOW was that Obama's fault? He's not an engineer. I am sooooo sick of the Republicans blaming everything on Obama. It's ridiculous. As an independent, from what I've seen so far in this election cycle, I doubt I'll ever vote Republican again. I am embarrassed and ashamed that I EVER voted Republican. The majority live in a reality bubble that is just so far out of touch with the 21st century. In fact, they seem to trying to take us back to somewhere around the 1950s in my estimation. They're taking "conserve" in the word conservative to whole new levels. The Republican Party is quickly making itself irrelevant and obsolete.

Jindal is a joke with the recovery attack. What he should attack is Brown Greer, the company that processes all of the BP oil spill claims. He should attack is BP for stalling all the claims and then claiming that the gulf coast was back to normal and claims processing should be reduced. Enough damn Asians from India have put Americans out of work by coming to the USA and taking our jobs. Jindal should concentrate on sending them back to India so natural born Americans can have jobs in the USA and not become homeless. Instead Jindal concentrates on a partisan attack to further his career

I guess the Republican's are running out of issues. This takes the cake. Bush relaxed the regulations, Halaburtin and BP did the work. These are the people that should be under attack not the President. Obama did his job... he held BP oil and the others responsible.

The slimey politicians in Louisiana have ripped that state off for 150 years.......a state as rich in natural resources as any and yet the people are as poor as church mice, no education, no healthcare, if they are not at the bottom they are only in front of Mississippi and Alabama.......the people down there should storm the statehouse........and throw all the bums out.....try some women for a change.

People in Louisiana made big money off this spill. Alot more than they would have made if it never happened ! There are still some major money and jobs that were created that will continue for years to come. So quit crying . People down there have never had it so good.

This coming from the Governor of La. where New Orleans is found. If he really wants to address a late response he should have focused on the tardiness of aid to his voters and citizens during KATRINA. BUT....since it happened under the watch of the GOP it, of course, won't get menioned.
