Bachmann makes light of her campaign missteps

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann made light of some of her campaign trail missteps in her first major speech since dropping out of the presidential race.

Bachmann said that running for president is "really one series of humiliations after another" in remarks to Republican activists gathered for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

“I learned three things when I was running for president,” Bachmann continued.  “First of all, I learned where John Wayne was born. That's very important. And then second, I learned the day that Elvis Presley was born. These are vital issues to our republic. And third I learned, never forget the three things that you learned.”

The first two things she learned were facts she famously got wrong along the way -- the third thing, of course, is a reference to what Texas Gov. Rick Perry forgot during a CNBC debate in Michigan last November.

But Bachmann did not seem to have forgotten many of the themes that undergirded the last few months of her presidential run, which were marked by daily attacks on President Obama’s foreign policy.

“Without a shadow of a doubt he world is a better off without bin Laden and without Gadhafi," Bachmann said, before adding: "These are tactical successes that don't begin to compare with the mess Barack Obama has made of the Middle East.”

Reviving a major theme of her candidacy, Bachmann attacked President Obama for the events of the Arab Spring, arguing that Obama should have defended Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak against the movement.

“Obama failed to stand by Mubarak,” Bachmann said, “and that helped fuel the revolution in Egypt, and it led to a regime that was based on Sharia Law, with 72 percent of the seats in the lower house in Egypt now occupied by the Brotherhood.”

Turning to another theme Bachmann hit often on the trail, she hit Obama for the pullout of U.S. troops from Iraq, and the planned drawdown in Afghanistan.

“Only Obama could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and call it success,” Bachmann said.

I'm so glad she got some laughs out of her bonehead errors. What about that gigantic error concerning the papilloma virus vaccine that in the end could have ended in the unnecessary death of thousands? Is she still laughing? She never apologized for that. Apology and compromise are not in the republican dictionary. I am so glad that this nut is out of the race. People like her should just stay home!

At this circus in town, the right wing conservatives really glory and revel in their own stupidity and ignorance. They are so proud of themselves, it is hard to believe they are so tone deaf.

You bet I am!

This is the same re-reg who was pushing his 'birther' nonsense last week!

Bachmann thinks she is the perfect candidate -- If only she had a brain.

Romney is the Tin Man, with a tin ear and no heart. Gingrich is the wizard -- just smoke and mirrors. Santorum is the wicked witch of the heartland, who would impose his radical religious beliefs on all. All of them lack courage to be honest (with exception of Ron Paul, who was born a century too late).

The fourth thing Bachmann is gonna learn is: "Don't tell the public you're going to make Barack Obama a one-term president."

It is my personal goal to make that pathetic excuse for a congresswoman eat her words, and I hope it leaves a very bitter taste in her mouth.

These idiots who think Obama has botched Egypt and Libya talk as if maintaining the status quo was one of our choices. It wasn't. Change was coming; we could be on the right side of it or the wrong side. And we picked the right side.

Goes to show that no matter how much money you throw to educate the stupid, they are still stupid. After spending millions, she only learned 3 things from running for president; Elvis' birthday, Wayne' birthplace, and oh shoot, some other birther thing - Indeed!!

I find it hillarious what MSNBC puts on First Read. Bachman talking about her misteps, Perry talking about the second half, etc. I understand its to energize the Left Base, but to watch everyone here go crazy with these hatered posts is unbelievable. I mean really, look at yourselves...is this who you people really are?

Sadly, JFK, it probably is who they are. You may have found as I have in life that when people spew like these people, it's because they're so miserable in their own lives they have to project it onto somebody else. I don't come here real often but it's sad when you see the same names all day, everyday on here and you don't have to have ESP to know what their tone will be. It must be sad to have such a terrible, lonely life.

        #12.1 - Thu Feb 9, 2012 6:17 PM EST

dirt, if you "don't come here real often," how would you see "the same names all day, everyday on here"??

The comments you read here about Bachmann are not 'hatred'...more like humor.

Michelle Bachmann has earned the disdain and the ridicule of the public. Her campaign is over because she couldn't get enough votes from people of her own party. Don't blame the other side for her failure.

dirt - so does the same apply to the commentors over at fox news? No one spews like them, 'journalists' included. And talk about tone? Fox news has been on the Obama tone for 3 years now. So we can only conclude that you must be living a terrible lonely life. How sad :( Enjoy!

I won't be packing up and moving to Minnesota any time soon. One reason is that if Bachmann is their choice, what does that say about the people who voted for her? Same thing for Santorum.

        Minnesota is a cold place.

I'm still waiting for them to hand out the hoods and burning crosses at the door for this convention. And they have the nerve to critize Obama for having a pastor with extreme views. This whole conference of people are extreme to the extreme power, but as we all know do as they say, not as they do.
