It's funny how now during my lunch break (12-1) I read each of the questions posed and they have a Democrat spin to them or from that side of the political spectrum. Don't you have jobs that require you to be productive or maybe you are not employed. Just wondering...

Rob in ma will be highly offended by your post.

Maybe you need to reread the questions or is it that you will find what you want to in them no matter the content?

Lots of folks who post here are retired. There goes the old canard that people get more conservative as they get older.

I work, but like to keep First Read up all day to keep me company. I learn alot, just from the comment section, and, of course, this is the best place for political news.

It's also good to see how others express themselves on subjects whether they agree with you or not. While I may agree with most posters here, I learn a great deal on how to best express that belief.

Has anyone asked any member of the SCOTUS how they currently view their decision or wether it should be reviewed or tweaked?

There are still alot of questions concerning "Romulian Romney." Why will the "Speculator and Chief" not release his tax returns since the 1980's? Who completed the "Romulian's" taxes since the 1980's?? How much unearned money has been hidden in the "Romulian's Off Shore Accounts?? There even some questions about "Nutty Newt." Will he make it to the GOP "Convention Of the Clowns" in August?? How will "Nutty Newt" the poltically dancing clown disrupt the GOP/RNC "Clown Convention" in Tampa?? Here are some questions for "Santorium Santorum." Can this KKK "Super Spewer" win the GOP/RNC nomination in Tampa??

I may be alittle off topic, but why do the media (especially the written) use terms like "slash", attack", "assail", ripped into", and such when referring politicians` comments. That is extreme overkill. Just say staed, said, complained, etc. When tHe matter involves only words, it isn`t a fight, so don`t use fighting expressions. A fight involves physical action, not merely words. I know they want to sell their product, but come on.

The big news for the week is not the economy, but the decision to require hospitals, schools, or other institutions sponsored by a religion to provide insurance coverage for birth control. The polling seems to indicate that this may not be quite the hot button issue the media uproar suggests.

Do you feel this the result of many in media, left and right, allowing their own religion to influence their reporting, or is it the right jumping on the decision, desperate to find new issues and narratives in case the economy does continue to grow? Both?

In other words, does this issue really have the impact the hype would suggest, despite the polling? Or it is still an open question that depends on how the issue is defined? (Attack on religion vs. Attack on womens rights)

    I have a legitimate question.

Trump said early on that if he didn't approve of the Republican nominee he would run as a third-party candidate. Ironically, he endorsed Romney and it gave Santorum a surprising surge. Since Romney is his guy, will Trump run as a third-party candidate if someone other than Romney gets the nomination? Or is Trump just bullying the party into nominating his guy with the scare tactic of the third-party run knowing full well if he does Obama is a shoe-in for re-election? Or does Trump secretly like Obama? The last one is very unlikely, but his running would only help the President.

Democrats: Sorry folks. The big news is China is watching you right now on your computers and Iranians are learning how to swim from Mexico and your doctor has moved his practice to South America.

I am shocked by MSNBC, ABC, TIME and especially HUFF POST and its moderators. I was told their was a first amendment? Than I see on TV your president has a free ride using GE Auto as his own personal for example for his re-election campaign on TV and where is MSNBC.

The root cause of so many people with so many problems in America is being Pissed On by the Socialist news like this one. It is American’s that are fooled by people like Obama. For example, there are more people that have stopped looking for jobs today that in the last recession in the 80's. Put them into the equation and unemployment is well above 10%. People are making risky investments, government strategy, in the stock market, as a result of the Fed keeping the interest rates at zero. When the EU is investing in US treachery bonds because they are safe and the EU has put in place austerity plans with no stimulus. These investors are going to hit the ground hard when inflation is allowed to take off. As for now no good investments. The Fed is a bunch of clowns. Go Americans Go. Vote the liar Obama in again. He has so much economic understanding and has learned so much. Bull he hasn't a clue.

Oh Yes. Have you had the chance to see the new GE Turbine Facility in Beijing. Beautiful and lots of turbines to export back to US made in China for Wind Energy.

Hay lets have a Batter Blow Up contest with our volts after more than 600 are sold?

I haven't looked but did Ron Paul's vote continue to increase in these three states? If so, it means he is still growing his base. Another question that needs to be followed up is how Ron Paul supporters are doing in getting themselves elected to both the state caucuses and to the national convention. This could show a shift in the Republican party's base, much like the christian conservatives did back in the 90's.

How does the Obama administration walk back its policy on contraception? I'll tell you one way: compromise. Allow exclusions for IUD's and the morning after pill so that Church money does not pay for these, but insist on the Church paying for condoms, diaphragms and birth control pills. These latter three are instrumental to women and men's health.

But shouldn't this issue be linked to the Catholic Church's tax-exempt status? In other words, when the Church profits from its workers (many of whom are not Catholic), shouldn't it pay tax to support the same infrastructure and government that allows the Church its religious freedom? My question is, besides making moral demands of the government, what does the Catholic Church owe us as good neighbors and citizens?

        Reply#35 - Wed Feb 8, 2012 2:52 PM EST

Fancy, I agree with you. When the Catholic Church (and any other church as well) decided to get involved in politics, telling parishioners what to think and do and how to vote, I believe they should have lost their tax exempt status. The only way to have a separation of church and state is exactly that, separate.

From the objective remove of Canada (LOL), let me say: I think it's time for Spkr. Gingrich to go to Sen. Santorum and offer to appoint Santorum as his VP-running mate now. If Santorum declines -- as would be expected -- then Gingrich should offer to do the same for Santorum. This would leave Gingrich to fulfill the typical attack-dog role of a running mate and allow him to direct his spite at the man, Gov. Romney, who so calumnized him. It would unite the true conservatives and offer a serious chance to defeat Romney and thereafter, perhaps, Pres. Obama. Doing this breaks a tradition, but offers a real chance to change the political dynamic and demonstrate strategic thinking.

Neither in our parish nor our dioces do we discuss politics. I believe the supposed control by the Catholic Church on politics in this country is way over blown only because of two candidates expressing THEIR views. Extremists exist in all groups. We find in the Catholic Church and in Protestant Christendom we have extremists like the evangelicals, for example. They do not speak for everyone in their faith only for their portion of it. We are not electing a pope or bishop but a president, a secular position and we should keep it that way.

Does the issue of insurance coverage for contraceptives fall under the Roe v Wade umbrella? After all, isn't it a private matter what medical care a woman and her doctor discuss?

Since the Republicans can only slam everything President Obama has done, even the good things he has accomplished, and are complaining about the Clint Eastwood/Super Bowl ad that depicts improvement for car manufacturing in Detroit, which has been so downtrodden, doesn't that pit Republicans AGAINST America and American values, as who as a citizen of America could argue with jobs in Detroit or anywhere in America and slam an ad that is PRO AMERICA? Why oh why are the Republicans NOT answering for their negative spin on all the good things that are occurring with Obama as President? "NOTHING SUCCEEDS LIKE SUCCESS." Bin Laden is dead - SUCCESS! Ghadaffy is dead - SUCCESS! Jobless rate is decreasig - SUCCESS!! Is that really the problem, that America is successful? That, to me, says the Republicans are anti-American! Please address this!! It's making me crazy..If you give a starving person an apple, is it OK that they say you didn't mean to give them the apple, or that there are some soft spots on the apple? EAT THE APPLE and SHUT THE HELL UP!! To me, Republicans are so determined to skew everything Obama does as bad, not good enough, wrong, etc., they have become anti-American!

I, for one, hope Jeb Bush *does* run. I would love to hear him explain the way the polls closed early during Janet Reno's run for elective office in the districts she was favored in, and I really want to hear all about those junk bonds he sold to Florida school districts just before the market caved in. You know, the fun stuff.
