CINCINNATI, OH –- Newt Gingrich today tried to link Mitt Romney and Barack Obama as one in the same when it comes to their stances on birth control for religious institutions.
“Romneycare and Obamacare they're too similar,” Gingrich told the crowd inside Price Hill Chili Restaurant at his first campaign event in the Buckeye State this morning. “There's been a lot of talk about the Obama administration's attack on the Catholic Church. Well the fact is, Gov. Romney insisted that Catholic hospitals give out abortion pills against their religious belief when he was governor.”
Gingrich was referring to a Feb. 3 Boston Globe article, which reported that Romney -- in Dec. 2005 -- "required all Massachusetts hospitals, including Catholic ones, to provide emergency contraception to rape victims, even though some Catholics view the morning-after pill as a form of abortion."
More from the article: "[Romney] said he was acting on his legal counsel’s interpretation of a new state law - one passed by lawmakers despite his veto - but he also said that 'in his heart of hearts,’ he believed that rape victims should have access to emergency contraception."
Since Jan. 30, Gingrich has relentlessly criticized the Obama administration for including a provision in the health-care law that requires all religious institutions to cover birth control in their insurance plans, despite religious teachings.
“The Obama administration is engaged in a war against religion,” the former House Speaker, who converted to Catholicism, told supporters at a rally in Jacksonville, FL two weeks ago after hearing the letter sent by Catholic Bishops to churches read at mass. “Their decision last week that they would impose on every Catholic institution, every Jewish institution, every Protestant institution, the Obamacare standard of what you have to buy as insurance. It is a direct violation of freedom of religion and an example of the increasingly dictatorial attitude of this administration.”
Yesterday in Colorado, Romney jumped in the battle, calling the Obama administration’s coverage for contraception a "violation of conscience” and has written in the past that he "stands with" the Catholic Bishop’s opposed to the mandate in the health care law.
But today, Gingrich argued that when Romney was governor, he made religious institutions cover birth control as well.
“Over and over, you get the same pattern. And I think that a Massachusetts moderate finds it very hard to draw a sharp contrast with somebody who is an Illinois radical," Gingrich told the 150 person crowd in the Buckeye State.

My BIGGEST COMPLAINT about all of this is WHY DO WE AS A SOCIETY allow Republicans to make this all about POLITICS EVERY ELECTION YEAR? Why do we always allow Republicans to make (THE Republican Equivalent of Big Government in your Bed Room) STANDS Religiously and Politically on Women's Reproductive Rights? These are Health Issues that should be decided by an individual and their family, NOT a Political Party.

Newt should have at least 30 with all of the wives he has had, since it is one of his missions to interfer with the other women's rights in this Country. Why did Santorum stop at 7?, Mitt at 5-7, etc.

No one dictates to you how many kids you should have. You choose to get pregnant by having unprotected sex with someone else. Currently you can chop that life into fishfood on a whim thanks to the criminal Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, a laughingstock court opinion if ever there was one.
Once you are pregnant, you shouldn't be able to murder it. If you're such a stupid, pathetic, useless person that even though you would kill a baby if you had one, you get pregnant anyway, then you should give it up for adoption, not murder it.

An inherently, and predominantly male, medical profession hasn't seen fit to devote alot of time and research to the idea of procreation requiring two halves, men and women both...they haven't devoted any time or the same resources and research dollars to determining a way to insure that men do not create pregnancy. Women have pills, transdermal patches, under skin implants, IUDs, sponges, creams ....well the list it pretty long, and medical science for all its time, effort, and money has given men the condom which has pretty much existed in one form or another for hundreds of years.....Now, I am anxious to see how you will take this obvious bias towards men in a sexual relationship and turn it into an issue for conservatives, religious organizations, or conservatives.....

Wonder how long it will take them to realize that these super pacs will add to the mistrust Americans have for the government and further corrupt our election process? Will this add to civil unrest? The money tied up in these superpacs is taken out of public circulation, but is not taxed. It helps to further special interests and corporate agendas. This is in no way a benefit to the country. This is what the wealthy do with their savings from taxes; they put their money into a fund that is not taxed, but is a tax credit. Imagine how many jobs could be created, businesses funded, and improvements made with the money going to super pacs. This will not change without the insistence of the people. We have to demand better of our elected officials.
Those same officials do not seem to make distinction on where the power comes from, but only to control more and more of it. You can be angry at the wealthy for putting these super funds together, but they did so why? And who ultimately controls how it is used? The whole notion that the most important positions in our country are somehow up for sale to the highest bidder is simply chilling.

98% of all Catholics use birth control. It's time for the Catholic church to visit the 21st Century. Men controlling women, that's the Catholic church. This is not a commandment of God, Jesus, or the Bible, this is a mandate from the MEN in the Catholic Church.
Suppose that Catholic institutions, colleges, hospitals, clinics and the like hire only Catholic employees, then they could have whatever insurance they like and the Catholic employees would be fine with it. However, if you employ, in your Catholic instution, people who are not of your faith, or your beliefs, then you must offer them coverage that covers them in their beliefs. The insurance companies are doing the coverage. If this were a men's issue, something for men's health, it would be a real non-issue. The only BIG government Christians are interested in is the government that deals with sex, either marriage, or abortion, or contraception, or sodomy laws, or sex education, and it does not matter that not everyone is Christian and that even a LOT of Christian people say one thing and live another. Make it so all those Christian women who say they don't believe in abortion understand that the pill the same thing. The pill doesn't prevent conception just the implanting of the fertilized egg. So that if you all count life at conception, get off the pill. Do you know how many Catholic women take the pill? How many good Christian women also take it? This is an issue for a bunch of hypocrites! These medical issues should be between a woman of any faith and her doctor, the government should stay out of it. Anything medication prescribed to a woman by her doctor should be covered by insurance, or are they going to stop covering Viagra and the like. I bet not!!!

Obama: Unemployment dropped 1.1% in the next 2 years following its high of 10.0% in October 2009.

A) the Guttenmacher institute says most women who get abortions don't do it because of poverty, so for most abortions, the "ya have to then take care of the baby for the parents who can't" point is false.
B) Before the 1960s, when abortion was illegal, and before the Great Society of LBJ, babies weren't dying in the streets. Carlin, as a typical leftwing stooge, does the usual assumption: all charity must be done through the govt.
Babies don't starve in America. Whether abortion's legal or not. With massive government handout programs or not. We know this from our own history.

The Republican party only CLAIMS they are against abortion, in order to get the religous vote. We had 8 years of Reagan followed by 4 years of Bush I, which equals 12 consecutive years of Republican Rule, and yet there was STILL abortion.

You obviously have not been around the poorest citys, and Appalachia, for example and seen true poverty. You and people like you have opinions based on talking points and fox news, no life experience with REAL poverty. There are kids in this country that don't eat for days. 25% of all kids in the country currently are at the poverty level. Everyone in this country should have the opportunity to walk in each other shoes, if so this would be a dramatically different country, and the GOP as it exist now would cease to exist

Instead of these republican candidates talking about how to stop young men from being raped in the catholic church by other men or why in some states why the divorce rate is at 70% like in Oklahoma or texas for an example they want to turn the whole situation into their own religious belief system and females don't have a say in anything. This is no more than a con game to impress all of the nut cases out there to get votes from people who are phoney christains, mormons, or what ever else they claim to be. Churches have every right to their beliefs...but when they KNOWINGLY CHOOSE TO EMPLOY people who may not share their beliefs, they should offer the same healthcare options as a secular employer, and be subject to the same rules as any other employer. By the same logic, the employee has the choice NOT TO ACCEPT employment with religious conditions...I guess it's a toss-up. As long as the limits on the healthcare coverage are clearly disclosed BEFORE the individual accepts employment
