Obama agenda: Prayers and politics

“President Obama yesterday told the National Prayer Breakfast that God serves as his top adviser for pushing higher taxes on wealthy Americans and other lofty policy goals,” the New York Post chides. “ ‘For me, as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that ‘for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,’ ‘ the president preached to the 3,000 people at the annual spiritual gathering. Like Moses descending from Mount Sinai, Obama had a list of policies that God himself would endorse. Obama extolled the virtues of his Wall Street reforms, ObamaCare laws that stop insurance companies from ‘discriminating against those who are already sick,’ and proposed rules to crack down on mortgage lenders.”

Actually, phred, if you knew anything about Islam you'd know that Muslims believe in one god, the same god as Jews and Christians worship (and Mormons too, let's not exclude Mr. Romney).

Muslims revere Jesus as an apostle of god.

(Jesus or "Isa" in Arabic) has seen with the perfection of his inner eye the secrets of this Universe. When he tells man of Paradise he has seen it, when he talks of God he knows Him. His every word is spoken from knowledge. He sees and hears and moves through God. The Spirit of Allah is his guide. Furthermore, he is an apostle of God, that is, one charged by God to provide guidance for mankind and to bring man towards the path of perfection and salvation - and to be a sign which hints at the heights to which man is capable of rising.

Why attempt to use religion to divide us? USA Today reported:

U.S. Muslims will go from a tiny minority now, less than 1% of the nation, to 1.7% (by 2030). That's a jump from 2.6 million people in 2010 to 6.2 million.

Terrorists are not born, they are created. Bigotry and ignorance help create terrorism.

All the things that matter most to you are present or absent there, as you require, in spades.

    @Bela Ghostly

you are absolutely right. there is nothing good about obama. name one bold progressive thing he has done. none. i could name you several deeply conservative things he has done though.

so yes, we will have to agree on that.

I can name you a few dozen zaruski, but you wouldn't read nor hear about them. You have your opinions like everyone else, including me; that is probably good.

Bottom line is, President Obama perserveres and it is working. Has taken some time, but his direction, programs, and leadership is seadily cleaning up the mess we got into between 2001 and 2009.

Check out e.g. Dec. GDP and the unemployment numbers just released.... ITS WORKING!

Whether he has accomplished this by conservative means or progressinve means calls for a value judgment and doesn't truly matter.

Fact is, your statement about "nothing good" is totally FALSE. America is improving under Obama, problems are getting solved, AND THAT IS THE TRUE FACT.

Jesus told the Pharisees to pay their taxes to the Roman government as required, "Render unto Ceaser that which is Ceaser's (Roman coinage), and to God, that which is God's" (including the support of widows and orphans). Of course, human greed, indifference, selfishness, and negligence were rampant then and now. The most often repeated theme in the Bible is caring for the poor and outcasts - that is a fact! Call God and Jesus socialists, if you will, but don't think for a minute that they would ever go along with Republican "social conservatism".

I do appreciate you interjecting Jesus and God into this as it's all for his glory. This statement is not true. Jesus never mentioned where a government will take care of the downtrodden via the taxes. He referenced the people of God to reach out to the homeless and downtrodden. Jesus expressed the need for individual thought and accountability. Jesus said that our leaders and master will be also held accountable for there actions and words towards the people (basically saying they need to consider them individually).

No, much will be required by God from those whom God as entrusted with much.

To twist this into saying much will be required by the government from those whom the government has no business meddling with is nothing short of sacriledge.

There are two major religions in this country. The Church of the Democrats (currently led by their savior, President Obama). The other is the Church of the Republicans (currently looking for a new savior). The two religions are in a true religious battle here.

Heaven forbid if you belong to any religion that worships a Supreme Being or differs in view from either of the state approved religions - and be sure not to have a differing opinion!

We have a Constitution for government and a Bible for Christians. Neither one is followed by self-righteous wingers or relativists. However, the wingers are dangerous to both Constitutional rights and religious freedom. It is so difficult to find literate people these days.

Sorry, folks. Just so very, very tired of all the bashing of the different religions. For some it is aimed at Muslims and Mormons, for others, Catholics. I am just so sadden and depressed over this.

I am also truly sickened at the way the political discourse is playing out. It seems you can't be friendly with anyone who has opinions different from the "crowd".

God better bless and forgive America - because we aren't doing a very good job here.

The way I see it, good and evil exist in almost equal quantities in the world. But there is just enough more good than evil in the universe to keep it from imploding. It is incumbent on all of us to be our best selves, and that is all.

Whatever religious beliefs one may have or not have, morality is not dependent upon adhering to any particular religious dogma. Some of the finest, most tolerant, generous and kind people I have ever known are Muslims. I have known way too many sanctimonious, mean-spirited and arrogant Christians, I'm afraid...so you'll have to forgive me.

We can't prove or disprove the existence of a higher being. That said, the miracles that surround us make a wondrous mystery of life and death. Do what works for you and don't worry what others think.

                Keep the faith.

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich immediately claimed that God gave them the following 10 commandments:

                    1. You shall worship money and wealth accumulation
                    2. You shall avoid paying taxes at all costs, even seeking out bankers in Switzerland and the Bahama Islands to avoid paying taxes.
                    3. You shall not accept any blame for a GOP predecessor, even if he was the worst President EVER, and denigrate the accomplishments of your opponent, even as unemployment drops.
                    4. Remember your big PAC contributors and keep them close to you. They will say what you cannot, and they will keep you in office as long as you do their bidding.
                    5. Blame the sick, the poor, the uninsured, just don't do anything to help them.

                    6. You shall not commit adultery unless your wife has cancer, won't agree to a three way, or has no clue as to what's going on while you are cheating.

                    7. You shall not steal unless it's done through an approved brokerage house such as Bain Capital or some other such group that has contributed to GOP PACs.

                    8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor without an attorney. Lying is OK however....

                    9. Money is the root of all evil. Give at least 15% of that evil to your church every week. Less to your government.

                    10. Avoid using facts wherever possible.

This Republican party platform has done their best to take ownership of Christianity in this country for too long. And I'm sick of it! It's not theirs to buy, it's not theirs to claim ownership of. They continue to prove to me, (a Christian) that their religion can only be a false one. An Imposter that tries to tug at and influence the hearts of the Christians and Mormons to gain another vote. Not so they can get elected as Governor, Senator, Representative or president of this nation for the good of all mankind. They use the argument of respecting the life of an embryo, but show little or no respect for life beyond the womb. Not in their words, their policies or by their actions. The bible warns me of false religions/false teachers & of anti-Christs that existed during the first century church. And it warns me that others will follow. Even in my lifetime and beyond. And it speaks of eventually a 'One World Order '. If that Order includes militarily, economically & of only one legal world religion this Republican religion scares the hell out of me! It continues to look more & more like a tool that helps lead us all in that direction day by day and year by year.

HeReigns... I've been told that before by someone who cares and maybe knows that to be true. Thank you for pointing that out to me as well. No one in my view will find peace or justice in politics. It is not my priority in life but politics are just one of my weaknesses. I tend to fall short of perfection in that area time and again. My point is there are politicians on the right who love to be identified with Christianity but fail grossly in living it out in their lives and policies. They don't agree that a government they control should live out the Word of God in government or influence the decisions they make. Ones based on Love & respect towards all, even our enemies. We should leave that all to the church? So some claim it's not about living that faith out in all areas of their lives? Including their jobs? Or that the decisions they make should be based on love & sacrifice towards those who have less and are treated unfairly? So their God doesn't ask them to practice godly ways and do what is most important in His eyes all the time? Cause it's government, not church? Then why do they find the exception to their own rules or their wisdom and dictate to a nation through laws or legislation anything that conflicts with their faith? And then blame God for it! That it's OK to decide which principles and teachings from the God of the Bible they claim an authority to enforce,( which is not theirs), and yet they are justified to disregard other parts of the His Word in their daily life and jobs outside their visit to some church?

President Obama quoting Jesus, or in this case Luke who was quoting Jesus, is not all that troubling, but misquoting Jesus is. When a black or half black leader quotes a verse condoning slavery and slave beating we should take notice. Many of the Bible’s verses are taken out of context and put to good use, as in the “To whom much is given much will be required” verse, which became the aristocratic “noblesse oblige” for centuries in Europe and elsewhere. That particular verse serves as a humbling reminder to help others. However, cherry-picking verses is a slippery slope: when clarified they can bring a storm.

If we take a closer look at the context of this verse, we have to wonder which one of Mr. Obama’s speechwriters set him up for such a contradiction in human values:

Luke 12:41 Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”

42 The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the other servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
