Is the end of the Afghanistan war near?... Panetta announces that combat operations will end there in the middle of next year… Republicans pounce on this announcement… Romney’s gaffe yesterday highlights a political weakness: Despite having some strengths, he’s just not a gifted politician… Conservative opinion-makers pile on Romney’s gaffe… Why it’s hard for Romney to play the “out of context” card… A little caution on Trump endorsing Gingrich today… The Romney-Paul bro-mance… And is Chuck Schumer really the Dems’ best point person to combat Super PACs?

Members of the 170th U.S. Army Infantry Brigade stand in formation before being reunited with their families upon the troops' return from Afghanistan at U.S. Army Garrison Baumholder on January 28, 2012 in Baumholder, Germany.
*** Is the end of the Afghanistan war near? While another story is the top topic of political conversation -- Romney’s “I’m not concerned about the very poor” -- there’s a more impactful story that’s in the news today: Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s announcement that the U.S. will end its combat operations in Afghanistan by the middle of next year. The Washington Post: “The United States hopes to end its combat mission in Afghanistan by the middle of next year, more than a year earlier than scheduled, Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said Wednesday. His remarks reflected a growing sentiment within the Obama administration that its approach to Iraq, where the official end of U.S. combat operations came 16 months before the final U.S. troop withdrawal in December, may provide a useful model for winding down operations in Afghanistan.” This is a big deal on a number of fronts. But politically, consider this: It gives President Obama the ability to say -- by his convention speech in early September -- that the two wars he inherited are over or on the road to being mostly over.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is saying that U.S. troops could transition from a combat role to a training and advisory role by the middle of 2013. NBC's Jim Miklaszewski has the details.
*** Republicans criticize the Afghanistan announcement: Not surprisingly, Republicans have used that news to criticize the Obama administration. In Nevada last night, Romney said, per NBC’s Garrett Haake: “His secretary of defense said that on a day certain, in the middle of 2013, we're going to pull out our combat troops from Afghanistan… So the Taliban hears it, the Pakistanis hear it, the Afghan leaders hear it. Why in the world do you go to the people that you're fighting with and tell them the date you're pulling out your troops?” Romney added, “It makes absolutely no sense. His naiveté is putting in jeopardy the mission of the United States of America and our commitments to freedom. He is wrong. We need new leadership in Washington." Sen. John McCain also pounced on the announcement (though the criticism was relatively tame by McCain standards): “It is very unfortunate that the administration continues to provide reassurance to our enemies that the United States is more eager to leave Afghanistan than to succeed.” It’s familiar disagreement between the two parties on the warfront (both Iraq and Afghanistan): the fear of a public date-certain. But notice that’s the only criticism; there isn’t NECESSARILY pure criticism on the decision to begin the wind down.
*** Now, to rejoin today’s gaffe-y, mini-feeding frenzy already in progress: Mitt Romney has always had several political strengths. He’s a strong fundraiser with the ability to self-finance his campaigns (as he did in 2008). With his good looks and square jaw, he’s cut out of central casting as a presidential candidate. His family is attractive, too. And he’s developed a good sense -- and we mean this as a compliment -- to modify his positions on issues to reach the voters he’s trying to woo. His eye is ALWAYS on the prize. But in the nearly six years that we’ve covered Romney as a presidential candidate, we’ve also come to this conclusion: He’s not a gifted politician. And that fact was on display yesterday -- one day after his decisive victory in Florida -- when he uttered the words, “I’m not concerned about the very poor.” What was damaging about those remarks is that played into the pre-existing narrative that he’s an uber-wealthy pol who may not be in touch with average Americans’ lives. Like any minor gaffe, if it was an isolated incident, it wouldn’t have had legs.
*** Conservative opinion-makers pile on: If this were his first flub, you’d see conservative opinion-makers rallying to his defense and blaming the mainstream media. Instead -- after the $10,000 bet, “I like being able to fire people,” pink slip, and how he handled his income-tax returns -- these conservative opinion-makers are piling on Romney. Here’s the National Review’s Jonah Goldberg in a piece entitled “What is Wrong With This Guy”: “As a bunch of us have been writing around here for a while, the under-emphasized dynamic in this race isn’t that Romney isn’t conservative enough … it’s that he’s simply not a good enough politician.” Here’s the Weekly Standard: “Fresh off his big win in Florida Tuesday night, Mitt Romney made the most stunningly stupid remark of his campaign.” Even Rush Limbaugh piled on. This also touches on something else: Romney doesn’t have a lot of support among these folks. Yes, they march into battle with him. But will they run at the first hint of trouble? As one FOFR (Friend of First Read) remarked to us: It’s amazing to see Republicans publicly hate on their presidential nominee the way Democrats usually do, examples being Kerry, Gore even Clinton ’92 and Dukakis.
*** Hard for Romney to play the “out of context” card: A final point we’d like to make about Romney’s “I’m not concerned about the poor” comment: He really can’t complain about being taken out of context. Why? Because one of his very first TV ads took President Obama out of context (quoting him as saying back in ‘08, “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose” – when Obama was actually quoting a McCain aide). You reap what you sow… By the way, as for the quote IN CONTEXT, it is a little less bad but still awkward, frankly. Still, perhaps the most remarkable aspect of yesterday’s little dust-up for Romney: how bad his clarification was. Shouldn’t he be talking about lifting all classes? Nothing on trying to lift the “very poor” out of poverty in his clarification? Maybe he just isn’t good at the day-to-day grind of modern day politics?
*** UPDATE *** The Romney camp says that Romney did later amend his comments and discuss the effort to lift the very poor out of poverty.
Said Romney yesterday: “Oh I’m sure there are. I’m sure there are places where people fall between the cracks. And finding those places is one of the things that is the responsibility of government. But we do have a very ample safety net in America, with Medicaid, housing vouchers, food stamps, earned income tax credit. We have a number of ways of helping the poor. And yet my focus, and the area that I think is the greatest challenge that the country faces right now, is not to focus our effort on how we help the poor as much as to focus our effort on how to help the middle class in America, and get more people in the middle class and get people out of being poor and becoming middle income.”
*** A little caution on Trump endorsing Gingrich: Several news organizations – including Politico, the New York Times, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution -- are reporting that Donald Trump will endorse Newt Gingrich in Las Vegas today. But a note of caution: We’re hearing and seeing things that this Trump-Newt endorsement isn’t a done deal. If Trump DOES endorse Gingrich, then he’ll be the latest GOP/Tea Party flavor of the month to endorse the former House speaker, joining Herman Cain, Rick Perry, and even the Palins, sort of. (The exception: Michele Bachmann.) But if Trump’s news is an endorsement of, say, Romney, is that the kind of endorsement he really wants? Yet if Trump snubs Gingrich, what an embarrassing way to do it considering that Gingrich is the only one of these active candidates who took him seriously.
*** The Romney-Paul bro-mance: We’ve written before how there’s been a curious alliance of sorts between the Romney and Paul campaigns. And now the Washington Post offers the most detailed report to date of this Romney-Paul bro-mance. “Despite deep differences on a range of issues, Romney and Paul became friends in 2008, the last time both ran for president. So did their wives, Ann Romney and Carol Paul. The former Massachusetts governor compliments the Texas congressman during debates, praising Paul’s religious faith during the last one, in Jacksonville, Fla. Immediately afterward, as is often the case, the Pauls and the Romneys gravitated toward one another to say hello.” More: “The Romney-Paul alliance is more than a curious connection. It is a strategic partnership: for Paul, an opportunity to gain a seat at the table if his long-shot bid for the presidency fails; for Romney, a chance to gain support from one of the most vibrant subgroups within the Republican Party.”
*** Is Schumer really the best point person to combat Super PACs? Just asking, but do Democrats really want Chuck Schumer to be their point person in going after Super PACs? Just how many former Schumer and Harry Reid aides are currently working for some of the top Democratic Super PACs? We can think of several…
*** On the trail, per NBC’s Adam Perez: Two days until the Nevada caucuses, Gingrich hits Las Vegas… Romney stumps in Las Vegas and Reno… And Paul campaigns in Elko and Reno.
Countdown to Nevada caucuses: 2 days
Countdown to Super Tuesday: 33 days
Countdown to Election Day: 278 days

At long last, a study has confirmed what I have suspected for years. Conservatism is hereditary!
Bold added for emphasis
Now is we could just find a cure for stuck on stupid!
BOYCOTT The Susan G. Koman foundation!
They are playing politics with woman's reproductive health!!!
GOOD NEWS U.S. MANUFACTURING:
U.S. Manufacturing has been growing for 30 consecutive months.
Fifth straight month of builders spending more on homes and projects.
New orders boosted manufacturing in January at fastest pace since July.
According to Institute of Supply Management yesterday, its manufacturing index rose in January from 54.1 from 53.1. Over 50 = expansion.
We're buying more trucks, cars, machinery & equipment.
"Both new orders and order backlogs rose to nine-month highs. Increasing order backlogs suggest manufacturers are lacking the capacity to meet demand."
Economists say further employment, production and growth are indicated.
Export orders are also up. Thus far, Europe's troubles are not affecting U.S. manufacturing.

Ramney is being attacked for his ‘very poor’ remark because he is a very poor candidate that needs to stay outside Washington. I look forward to the montage the Democratic Committee will put on Ramney…
The 99% will find it hard in the Ramney Trickle Down society...

Same spoiled eggs, different carton.
Looks like the lefty liberal MSM is going to have to do some heavy lifting to try to drag Barry over the November 6 finish line as the winner. It’s not going to be the cakewalk it was in 2008 when they were able to just bask in his glow, and gaze at him adoringly as they spread the Barry BS lines in their reporting.
BTW, what’s with our constitutional law professor President trampling on Roman Catholic’s First Amendment freedom of religion rights by mandating that they violate some of the basic beliefs of their religion?? I guess Roman Catholic’s don’t rate up there with the envirokooks that opposed the Keystone pipeline. They are only the single largest religious denomination in the US, and make up 22% of the population, and many Hispanics are devout Catholics. But, nevermind.
From Politico:
Why Obama should be worried
By: Jim VandeHei
February 2, 2012 04:37 AM EST
To hear Democrats (and much of the media) tell it, President Barack Obama is a man on the rebound. The president turned in a strong State of the Union speech, picked a smart political fight over taxing the rich and authorized another heroic Navy SEAL mission in terrorist territory. Sounds like a recipe for reelection, they say.
There is a big problem with this Pollyanna punditry: There are a bunch of real-time numbers coming in that tell a much different tale.
In short, there’s a new Congressional Budget Office report that shows unemployment likely to climb to nearly 9 percent by the election, there’s polling data showing Obama tied or trailing Mitt Romney in the most important swing states (and doing only marginally better against Ron Paul), and there is mounting evidence that the assumption of a decisive Obama fundraising advantage for the fall might be flat wrong.
Boycott a foundation that has done incredible work for women stricken with cancer?
Because they don't want to associate with Planned Parenthood anymore?
What an incredibly narrow view you have of the world.
Let's pray that you never need their help.
BTW it's Komen not Koman.
Fiesty,
Thanks for bring up The Susan G. Koman foundation! I will make my donations to Planned Parenthood. The Catholic Church is also guilty of playing
politicspower in regards to the healthcare law. I think the Church should lose it's tax except status.I also want to thank Mitt for proving he is a class warfare warrior.
Louis, yep
Mr. Romney said the way to deal with housing was to let the foreclosure process "run its course and hit the bottom".
Sounds a lot like his approach to the Auto Industry.
Hey Joe... Speaking of Constitution, here's what will happen on the first day.
Gingrich first day as President… "Ok, where's the Constitution? Time for a rewrite."
Ramney first day as President… "Ok, where's the Constitution? Time for a campfire."
Santorum first day as President... "Ok, where's the Constitution? Time for some doodling."
Paul first day as President... "Ok, where's the Constitution? I've never read it."
These guys would burn books, history is as real as the imagination it takes to make it up and boy, these guys, along with FOX 'News' really like to make stuff up.
Who I 'pray' for are the millions of low income women who will no longer be able to get mammograms & basic health care services!
And, of course, your demented 'soul'!
I noticed you had nothing to say about the study - must of struck to close to home! ;o)
""Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than liberals"""??
Says the liberal poster who can only paste OTHER people's thoughts because her own apparently only consist of insults, LMAO's, GFs, and personal digs....
Boy did you hit the nail on the head Bev!
That is LOOOOOONG past due!!!
Feisty they donated around $500,000 in 2010. Just how many millions of women were they helping?
Planned Parenthood is already on the move to replace the money. Sounds like they are starting with Bev.
You need to get your facts straight before you jump into something you saw on MSNBC.
No I have nothing to say about your cherry picked study. I suppose if I had your time, I could find the same info for Liberals.
Quite frankly, I was taken aback by your comment on the Komen Foundation. I know many women who have directly benefited from their help.
It's really disgusting Feisty, even for you.
WCA,
Believe me when I say, this is a VERY bad thing the Komen Foundation has done. Unfortunately, the right focus on Planned Parenthood as this "uber abortion" group is false. Planned Parenthood has done so much to help women (especially poor and low income women) and their health issues. The cut off of funding will hurt those women in the screening of breast cancer - an issue I have personal and strong feelings about. They (Planned Parenthood) are also big on other cancer screenings for women. Please, take a little time and look into this. The Komen Foundation is just playing politics with women's lives. And because of partisan politics, women will die.
As for the Catholic Church, if the government dictates the way they should run their business, they should just close the doors of all the hospitals and other institutions they run and employee people at. If we want the church(religion) to stay out of politics and government, should not government not dictate the tenants of the Catholic Church's belief - a belief they have held for centuries?
So the Taliban hears it, the Pakistanis hear it, the Afghan leaders hear it. Why in the world do you go to the people that you're fighting with and tell them the date you're pulling out your troops?” Romney added, “It makes absolutely no sense. His naiveté is putting in jeopardy the mission of the United States of America and our commitments to freedom.
You tell 'em Romney. It's been a while since we've had a crusader looking out for our freedoms.

Hey Feisty Redhead....Did the study mention anything about people who use INCORRECT phrases like "must of"? Looks like YOU are not smart enough to know that the correct phrase is "must have." You make that 3rd grade error over and over and over again. What's funny? None of the other superior geniuses on here correct you on it, so they must think it's correct too. Hahaha. Now take your dumb, uneducated ass back to the Huffington Post and see what they say about that.
WCA,
Get OVER it!
For that matter, get over youself, your poutrage is stale!
Feisty, Is this another smear tactic from the right?
Planned Parenthood does not use federal money for abortions.
Komen says it doesn't want to be associated with a group that is "under investigation".
Am I right?
Susan Komen Foundation has been controversial for some time, thanks to their belligerent attitude towards other breast cancer charities.
There are other, equally worthy charities one can donate to. Planned Parenthood has provided health services to low income women for decades. I depended on them when I was in my twenties. I would encourage folks to support Planned Parenthood.
.
Some pro life congressman has Planned Parenthood under "Congressional" investigation - for political reasons, no doubt. This gave Komen the excuse.
Amy,
I also, when very young, depended on Planned Parenthood. And I know women of all age groups today that depend on them.
The Komen Foundation has a policy that prohibits it from supporting any group under investigation by local, state or federal authorities. PPH has an impending investigation from congress.
PPH has an annual budget of around $1 billion dollars. The Komen Foundation Grant was .05% of that budget.
You seriously are going to support boycotting one of the leading womens cancer groups for that?
I feel sorry for all of you.
Hahaha. Romney will self destruct. 4 more years of Trillion dollar deficts and green initiatives. Why worry?
I love the smell of faux outrage early in the morning, don't you Feisty?
I don't support organizations that cave in to the fringe right wing, neanderthals all.
I will boycott the Komen Foundation. Money is the only thing these people understand.
That was quite an expose Lawrence O'Donnell did last night on Bain and their role with American Airlines. Seems they're getting paid millions and millions of dollars to see to it that American Airlines employees don't quite get what is owed to them.
This is the same Bain Romney likes to brag about.
Yeah you will all boycott them, until you have no place else to turn.
Backhouse, thanks for the positive news!
Morning Backhouse,
The new VP of Komen was endorsed by Sarah Palin when she was running for Governor of GA!
Breaking news; Komen has caved! YAY!

Feisty want to back up the "millions of women" comment or are you just going to keep throwing crap up here all day?
WCA,
We sure are!!!
Guess what?
IT WORKED!
And it took less than 24 hours!
Best to not stick your nose into matters of which you know nothing of! lol
You may now crawl back under your bridge!
WCA,
The Komen Foundation has the standing and reputation in breast cancer research. They promote prevention. For a group like this to do this, well, it really hurts. I wish i could make you understand. Maybe another time, in a quieter setting, we can discuss how this does hurt women's health.
I don't care if WCA understands or not. Convenient whipping symbol for him, solely. Boycott Susan Komen Foundation. All thoughtful people will.
Wait, they caved, Feisty? That didn't take long. Cowards.
Money talks and bull@!$%# walks...
Now, where did WCA go...? lol
Nothing like the smell of VICTORY in the morning!
The Komen decision was pure politics and it was going to cost them dearly!
White Collar Auto
Do politically motivat4ed fishing expeditions count as "investigations"? That's all that's happening. And the Republicans' "investigation" of Planned Parent Hood will go on until they turn up something damaging, which means that it could go on indefinitely until the clowns who are staging this circus are voted out of office.
Feisty you have been called on this before.
When you post a link that starts with google you have obviously not read the article.
You continue to spew uninformed lies on this site.
Komen has not changed it's position.
The VP the article talks about that quit refused comment so they got a third party to try to guess why she quit.
Too easy today Feisty, because you are dead wrong on this.
How does that smell?
How about those Romney glitter-bombings yesterday?
I was pretty proud of my state for once.
Did she quit or not?
A simple yes or no answer will do...
I see that new shovel I gave you the other day is coming in handy! ;o)
PS: I read the article but for some reason was unable to copy it as a shortcut, so save your allegations.
WCA.......... Ever since I lost my sister to breast cancer I have donated to Komen and supported runners in their charity races, if some of those funds were used to help any woman in detecting a deadly disease or help them in their health issues or needs, it was fine with me. No longer will I do that, and from what I've read in the past 24 hrs, there are many more like me.
As a woman, it is none of my business if a woman goes to Planned Parenthood for assistance of any kind and it certainly should not be any of yours. I find it deeply offensive that anyone, and especially men, should have any say over a woman's body, at any time. I don't care what your religious views may be, keep them to yourself.
As far as I am concerned the pro life movement needs to change their name, they are using a very private matter to further an agenda, in lots of cases violently, under the guise of being protectors of life. That is chutzpah of the highest kind.
Come on Feisty.
Millions of women? Nope
Komen caved? Nope
You're not having a very good morning are you? Put the shovel down.
Komen foundation will now have to switch support to the new Agency to be founded by Republican/TP conservatives:
"Unplanned Parenthood"..........the way God wants it...
...and BTW take care of your unexpected children yourselves because we are cancelling ADC programs for them rugrats.
Yep, good old Minnesota.
Nobody on this planet will " succeed " in that POS of a country...others tried before us and failed..this been going on there for thousands of years and no results.
End it..the REPUBLICANS love war always did ($$$$ to them)..and McCain is the biggest war lover.
Its the less concern poor Americans that fight in these wars!
Feisty, WCA is working awfully hard at getting attention from you. He just can't stop that "locked on" behavior.
You can't answer a simple yes or no answer & you accuse ME of having a bad morning!
LMFAO@U WCA!
Now be gone... bitch slapping you has become boring!
NDD - notice how he & the rest of the usual suspects are verry verrry quite on the study I posted? *crickets* lol
Nahh, NDD, I would never expect Feisty to admit she was wrong. So how about you?
Did you read the article?
Did Komen change it's postion in the last 24 hours?
Is the $500k going to effect millions and millions of women?
Or are you hiding behind Feisty's skirt this morning?
Ahh Feisty, How about you answer my simple yes or no questions? I already answered yours. I said she quit. I said she wouldn't comment. You can infer whatever you want from that.
Did Komen Cave as you stated?
Is $500k really going to hurt millions of women as you stated?
Since you refuse to admit you were wrong, I am done with you. I am tired of trying to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
FAKE CONSERVATIVES ARISE!
And this is why the Republican Party loses. I could be picking on the Democrats, but today is smack the idiot pretending to be a conservative day. Here's a paraphrase of the moron who pretends to be about small government and pulling troops back to US soil.
Barbeque shack dweller or overweight inheritor working at his daddies company: "We hate you Obama, for having our troops overseas!"
Obama: "I'm pulling troops out according to my military advisors and my conservative defense secretary."
Barbeque/Overweight Inheritor: "Oh, so now you are screwing the whole thing up by doing what we wanted!"
Yeah, shut up and note that you are as lost as a guy flattening the tires on a police car in the OWS movement. The OWS is being discredited by that moron as much as actual thinking conservatives are being discredited by your nonsense crying.
How about we try to stay on topic? The article is about Afghanistan.
Strategically speaking it's only a fool whom tells the enemy their plans, so if you say we're out on March 1st an enemy with any intelligence will hold back on operations against you, rebuild and fortify, and just make sure that you keep your promise- then step in and take over like they wanted to anyway. Once the US demobilizes (big political and financial cost) we won't be willing to turn around and start up again (due to the large political and financial costs of re-mobilizing). SO, the clear signal to the Talliban is just wait us out and it's yours.
Just think about our operations right now- we are building major highways to connect major portions of Afghanistan, improving their infrustructure, etc. at NO cost to them. Why on earth would you not let the US finish tidying up (while taking a few out for fun) and take ownership of an improved country??
I'm not a fan of the war- We didn't support our troops as needed, we didn't send as many as the generals said they needed, we didn't allow them to fight with ferocity- just strategic hits, we didn't let them get the job done. For that I say bring them home- you don't want to fight, don't fight. We shouldn't be nation builders though, nor should we declare to our enemies how we are going to move. Our current foreign policy and military policy stinks. Keep the politicians out of wars. They can't run our country or stop infighting here, how the hell do we expect them to be competent enough to oversee and decide which military operations are palatable?
Joe in Albany

Joeey, you little troll
Did you also see the Congressional Budget Office pointed out if the Bush tax cuts are increased what will happen?????
~snip~
The Congressional Budget Office report also says that annual deficits will remain in the $1 trillion range for the next several years if Bush-era tax cuts slated to expire in December are extended...
http://nbcpolitics.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/31/10279530-report-us-deficit-falls-slightly-to-11-trillion
Neither Ron Paul nor Willard will see the inside of the Oval Office no matter what some FOX-MUSSEN Poll says.
Obama/Biden 2012
I want to say that Feisty is one heck of a fighter for what is right.
Yes, of course, WCA: I care SO much about what a peasant like you thinks, I must needs hide behind Feisty. Sorry WCA, you are a legend in your own mind only. I find you completely pedestrian and facile.
The Komen Foundation adopted that rule solely because of one person, a Palin neanderthal buddy. Her goal was to cut off Planned Parenthood, and she said that. I notice you don't reference that either.
Whether they have caved on this or not matters little to me. Since the goal of the organization is clearly self aggrandizement, with little caring if poor women can access services, I will boycott any pink ribbon product or event.
Thoughtful people will join me...which leaves YOU out.
@LouisJ

Really Louis....Ron Paul is a constructionist and he votes on bills based on the constitutionality of it... He is the candidate that wants the country to adhere to the constitution....you have just proved yourself as an uneducated troll
Feisty,
As per your link:
"The Komen grants to Planned Parenthood did not pay for abortion or contraception services, only cancer detection, according to all parties involved."
Planned Parenthood is being demonized when most of its funds are spent on screening for all the various cancers for men and women, treating menopause and testing for diseases.
Except Paul is not a Constitutionalist. More an Article of Confederationalist.
"The Komen board of directors are very politically savvy folks, and I think over time they thought if they gave in to the very aggressive propaganda machine of the anti-abortion groups, that the issue would go away. It seemed very short-sighted to me."
That is a direct quote from John Hammarley, Komen's senior communications adviser. CASE CLOSED!
sorry...........Feisty is a stupid, 3rd or 4th generation welfare bitch. she needs to get a job and begin to support herself and get off govt welfare. as long as there are people like her, Odumba will continue to preach "big govt" and entitlement programs............Feisty loves that kind of talk...........more welfare !!! I kinda doubt if she ever worked in her entire life and paid any kind of taxes.............I would be shocked if she did. People like her that only pull welfare and don't pay taxes should NOT have a say on anything in this country.....they have not earned the right to make comments about anything.
Hey, Feisty, LOOK! Here is roy to prove that the study about stupidity and the fringe right wing is TRUE!
Awww thanks Job1! *blushes*
Someone has to do it! lol
NDD,
The only thing poor roy forgot was to call me a n****r!
Socrates, from what I've heard out of his mouth, he's a Deconstructionist...
Paul's second day in office after reading the Constitution... "You mean to tell me there are no more slaves? Well, we can't have that now can we? We have to change this, give me a pen." His giggling alone would have him laughed out of the room of World Leaders.
You sound like you know something which happens to be nothing.
@Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
If you feel so strongly why not be honest about it? You don't want to boycott them because they're "playing politics". You want to boycott them because their politics don't line up with yours. If this was about "playing politics" you'd boycot Planned Parenthood also because they're doing the same thing just from the other side of the debate. The side YOU agree with.
First Read has turned into MSNBC's Jerry Springer show. Nothing more than a tabloid spewing tired propaganda.
And many on this blog prove this hypothesis!
NDD......you beat me to it!!! Lawd, they are so-o-o predictable.
the more interesting point is how come the media dont report on americans killed in action in afghanistan since 2008 ?
in 2011 418 americans were killied in action. no media outlet reported the deaths.
why did they stop reporting american casualties in 2009 ?
25 americans have died since new years day.
its sad the media doesnt want to put the numbers out daily, like they did while bush was president.
why are deaths of americans 'not news' anymore ? there are still 100,000 of us in afghanistan
Ah no... Is any politican? I think not!
Fiesty.
LOL!!! Nice study.
Conservatives really are stupid. But it's not thier fault. It's genetic.
Explains why they are so easy to manipulate, and have been so easily deluded by the conservative game of telephone.
Now, that's an actually good point. Anyone who says, in general, the media isn't biased to the left, is just simply crazy, as far as I'm concerned. Now, I do give more respect to some media outlets than others, but still, you can't escape the biase.
I'm not about to stop reading news, but if a person can't stomach an intelligent paper that runs counter to your point of view, I think they are seriously missing something.
You CAN fault Obama for taking this long to pull out if you want. You CAN fault any President for whatever policy they pursue. I think at least, if you are a thinking conservative or liberal, though, you avoid hypocrisy and base it on a consistant value. Not some ecoterrorist or evangelistic blind faith belief.
Nice, keck. I completely approve.
And Obama signals a defeat of afghanistan
Feisty and the rest of you libs, If dummies are conservative, explain how the vast majority of ill-educated low IQ minoritiesin this country vote 90% plus for Liberal Democrats so that they can get some of Obama's stash. Stupid doesn't have a skin color does it?
You left out some significant information. That policy? Newly adopted, coinciding with Komen's recent appointment of a senior VP for public policy who happens to have a lengthy history of anti-abortion activism... and the very convenient launch of an "investigation" by a GOP congressman with a similar history of anti-abortion activism.
But my, how you managed to paint that with a thick coat of faux innocence.
http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2012/02/who-is-behind-susan-g-komens-split-from-planned-parenthood/252327/
Any foundation such as the Susan G. Komen Foundation which claims to be focused on eliminating breast cancer loses all credibility when it throws women under the bus who have no other option for cancer prevention screenings and treatments except through Planned Parenthood--also a charitable group--because a bunch of self-righteous do-gooders object is NOT worthy of the name "Foundation". There are many other excellent organizations and foundations whichdo not play politics with the lives of men and women--send your money there. The Komen Foundation need not send any more donation requests to this house because this house will donate to the worthy groups who do the same work, including Planned Parenthood and do not cave to the politics of a few wealthy contributors.
The Komen Foundation may think this is case closed but my guess is, they will end up on the losing end both in reputation and donations.
keck, apparently you just aren't watching the right media outlets. I see the deaths reported each time they occur on NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, the local papers.
A NEWLY adopted policy that was pushed through by "the organization's new senior vice-president for public policy, Karen Handel, a former gubernatorial candidate from Georgia who is staunchly anti-abortion and who has said that since she is "pro-life."
LouisJ - Obamas first day and every day thereafter after taking the oath of office....
Ignore the advice of everyone, because I, obama am always right.
Not one person here has addressed my point that the Komen grant was a miniscule amount of the PPH budget.
That's why debating with you people is useless. You always ignore the facts.
OBXRon
Excellent! Of course the ANTI Austerity plan Romney so graciously stepped his foot in yesterday will go hand and hand with that, right?
I mean the SAFETY NETS that currently exist will cover all that he can't discuss in 'polite' circles, no doubt!
I like your sarcasm, A LOT! thanks,
Veteran psychiatrist calls liberals mentally ill
Publishes extensive study on 'Psychological Causes of Political Madness'
“Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded,” says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness.” “Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.”
“A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do,” he says. “A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation’s citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do.”
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
“The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind,” he says. “When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.”

WCO.
LOL!!! Now that's irony coming from you.
You're welcome Pat.
Plus you're - - soo on my must-read list.
OK white collar-
The small amount of support PP was receiving is what makes this politically motivated. which is why it stinks. Makes no difference the amount. The SGK foundation has declared a position politically and now they will have to deal with it. If folks decide to stop supporting them then that is their "choice".
Wrong is wrong. It is no less wrong to be bigoted against one; than to be bigoted against 10.
Are racists dumb? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than liberals? A provocative new study from Brock University in Ontario suggests the answer to both questions may be a qualified yes.
The case is certainly true in my family. The least intelligent and most self-centered of my relatives are the ones who claim to be staunch Republican. They are the ones who make us uncomfortable when they show up to family gatherings. They always end up being the embarrassing joke of the day with their anti-science, anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-foreigner, anti-black, anti-Liberal, anti-education drivel and religious extremism. It is useless to challenge them on any of their views, and believe me, the rest of us have all done so! We don't bother anymore. Our neocon kin seem incapable of viewing facts and arriving at logical conclusions. Those of us with some degree of intelligence always have a good laugh after they leave. Quite frankly, I'm ashamed of them. One of my uncles always votes Republican even when he cannot stand the candidate and disagrees with his or her position. He claims his main reason for doing so is because the Democrats give money to n****** (his word for black people).
I rest my case!
Will someone please explain what religion has to do with ending the Afghan fighting. This reminds me of the joke of going to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out.
Dear Prohibition: Rossiter is a little known right wing hack who wrote a book that is his OPINION. The piece on Conservatives appeared in a peer reviewed journal. Now, you want Rossiter to be taken seriously, tell him to do a study and publish it in something reputable.
I am relatively certain that no reputable peer reviewed journal would accept Rossiter and his crackpot ideas.
Prohibition doesn't work, that nonsense is coming from a right wing nut who shaped his OPINIONS using his beliefs and no studies. LOL
Now there was a REAL scientific study in England where they were studying the fear centers of the brain. They scanned the brains of both self identified conservatives and liberals.
What they found was that Conservatives have almost DOUBLE the size of the fear center than Liberals. In other words Conservatives are MORE EASILY SCARED AND AFRAID. This means they are more likely to jump at bumps in the night and hate things that cause them fear. Conservatives are basically irrational. Liberals are not as fearful of things around them. They are more accepting and more willing to help their fellow man than a Conservative because they don't let every little thing scare them to death.
They are 100% right in their study too. Just look at how afraid Conservatives are right now. They are so skittish you would think they were victims in a Saw movie. LOL
Regarding giving a day certain.... Okay GNOPs... 1) We have kids over in Afghanistan, right? Wave your right hand if you understand. 2) It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for our army to "sneak out". Raise your hand again and let out a big belly laugh at the very thought. 3) Many, if not all, of the Taliban, the Afghans, and the Pakistanis hate our asses and will kill us to make us leave. Agreed? You have other data on that one? No? Okay then... Sooooo. If we announce, with a date certain, when we will be leaving, this will 1) save our kids lives, 2) allow us to be bold and forthright about leaving, and 3) will allow relationships to start mending now instead of date in the future uncertain.
Raise your right hand again... put it down. (Just wanted to see if you'd do it again.... sorry)
When I see "feisty from IL", I just laugh at her posts.
I have lived in Chicago. My family is from Chicago. That state is an utter embarrassment on a fiscal level and with respect to services. Il is now fiscally worse off than CA which is really hard to beat. Talk about corruption with how many governors being sent to the slammer, and how unions and government officials are in bed together making commerce in IL impossible. If you aren't union you don't get a piece of the action.
The roads in IL are deplorable. The taxes are very high with a significant amount of crime no matter where you live. Seriously, I can't think of one positive thing to say about the state. Democrats have done an excellent job of destroying that state. There is nothing there to be proud of.
Debating somebody that is getting their ideas from the Illinois democrats is futile dialogue.
Debating someone that judges the merit of someone's post based on what state they live in is laughable.
How is pulling out of Afghanistan a defeat? The reason for going into Afghanistan is a little foggy to begin with since they were not directly responsible for 9/11. According to G W Bush it was Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda who were responsible for the attack on the US. The Taliban even offered to hand over OBL but Bush refused. WHY?? If they did not have enough evidence to satisfy the Taliban that OBL was guilty of the attack then they didn't have enough evidence to go to war and kill thousands of people.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2001/oct/14/afghanistan.terrorism5
Now that OBL has been killed the original mission was accomplished. The fight against Al Qaeda will continue in other parts of the world but killing people in Afghanistan just to prove we can is crazy. Once the agreement is made between the US/allies, Afghan Taliban, and the Afghan government we have nothing to gain by keeping military forces for them to shoot at in their country.
Drinking the kool-aid of fear from the right wing war mongers that Afghan may pose a threat to this country is ludicrous. One only has to look at the fear factor during the war in Vietnam to see that we were being lied to for the purpose of keeping the war going so defense contractors could make millions of dollars.
@Prohibition doesn't work
"Veteran psychiatrist calls liberals mentally ill..."
Article by Lyle Rossiter, Jr., M.D.
Interesting the bio's of the author:
"Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., M.D. is a libertarian/conservative...."(that puts him to the right of Rush)
Not quite an unbiased opinion...
http:// redroom . com / member / lyle-rossiter-jr-m-d/bio
@fpn1943
You seriously believe libertarians are "right of Rush"? Really? You're actually that clueless? I'll admit I don't know exactly where Rush Limbaugh stands on most issues but I feel confident in assuming he doesn't support equal rights for gays or ending the war on drugs or ending ALL of the actual shooting wars we're in. Issues we libertarians are pretty outspoken on. Maybe you should check to see where people actually stand before you make a further fool of yourself with BS assumptions.
Right after saying he doesn't care about poor people, Romney said that the way to "solve" the housing crisis is to foreclose on millions of hard-working Americans so that "investors" can come in and buy up houses on the cheap!
Mitt Romney: 'I don't care about the very poor, we're going to cut holes in the safety net anyway. And I don't care if the very rich rape and pillage the middle class. What I'm concerned about is the middle class, and how we can get them to give up their homes and sign away their paid-in rights to Social Security and Medicare, so that I can distribute all that real estate and all those back taxes to my rich friends.'
Or something like that.
Is it still a Freeudian slip if you keep doing it over and over?
@Backcountry164
Lighten up... That was to enphasize that the opinion of that doctor was biased... After all he is a Consrvative and a Libertarian.. Both of which are right to extreme right tendencies...
I do not attack other peoples political ideas and I fully respect you to be a libertarian... and I am apolitical...
The poster in question tried to neutrilize a study from an indipendent university (from Canada of all places) with an article from a doctor whose views are, well.... to the right of Rush..
Bev, @1.47
You still misquoting that article girl?
here lemme help ya...
Here is the first paragraph of that article...
First of all it's an estimate, you do see the word "Predicts", now go to the last statement, the previous estimate was less than a Trillion.
How, is this anything other than an increase? it may be slightly less than last years actual amount, but it is an increase from what they were previously predicting.
Lets quote it accurately huh?
Awww Newday, @1.52
Please, could you give me some links that prove this assertion?
;-0)
This first read article was a horrendous piece of journalism, if you can even call it "journalism". Where does PMSNBC find these tools to write this far-left bias tripe?
Wow, the crazies are out in force today, on both sides....
@fpn1943
Libertarians are fiscally conservative, an idea that those on the right are relatively new to. Or were you out of the country between 2000-2008?
Aside from that the idea that libertarians are "right or extreme right" is just flat out nonsense. None of the issues I mentioned above are within earshot of the views on the right.
I'll also say that the idea that only those who are apolitical can offer an opinion that is unbiased is ridiculous. Not everyone is a puppet to their ideology.
Sadly, there is little reason to stay in Afghanistan.
Unfortunately, the big losers will be the Afghan people, especially those who supported us, those who helped us fight al Qaeda, those who want to live in freedom, and those who appreciate modernity and pluralism.
The last foreign force to win a conflict in Afghanistan was led by Genghis Khan.
There's a message in that.
The arguments on here are annoying at times, Those on the right never admit wrong/fault of themselves or of their political leaders, and those of the left are unwilling as well and the excuse is "well they never will, why should I". It turns into this mindless back and forth where everyone feels the need to prove the other wrong without giving up ground even though there is a discussion to be found in the middle. *sigh* oh well...
Either way I am glad to hear we will be withdrawing troops. Though it seems not too much was accomplished in the wars we went over and fought, you have to cut your losses somwhere. Even if we were to find success there in the next few years, the harm it would do to us fiscally (which is gigantic) does not even compare to the lives lost and the families that have been torn apart.
@Backcountry164
As I mentioned I belong to no party and I have no issues to libertatians beeing "fiscally conservative".
It is the utopic vision of the country that worries me and others.
May I point you to an intersting article that, in my opinion, addresses the issues of libertarianism....
com / ian / essays / libertarian / libertarian.html

I fully understand your idea of freedom, but in this side of the univers it will never happen (unless you manage to reduce the population of the US to 4-5 millions souls as it was a couple of hundred years ago)
Egilman: You only have to listen to what Paul says. He is a state's rights advocate, and is not for Federalizing the government. That makes him an Articles of Confederation man, which did not work when it was tried the first time.
Newday,
He has very clearly stated that whatever responsibilities are not ceeded to the federal government or specifically precluded to the states are reserved for the states.
This is exactly what the Constitution says.
Quote:
"States' rights simply means the individual states should retain authority over all matters not expressly delegated to the federal government in Article I of the Constitution."
President Lincoln went to war with the Southern States because they interpreted the Constitution in the manner you think he supports. Dr Paul supports President Lincoln's reading of the constitution.
The problem is Egiliman, that Paul does not think that much is ceded to the Feds. He is dealing with the country as it was when the ocean protected us. It doesn't any longer, and Paul can't understand that.
Interesting question though; Would Paul have taken the nation to war to preserve the Union? Or would the state's rights argument hold sway with him. I am not convinced he would have thought he should fight it. Would he have agreed that the slaves should have been freed in the Southern states? I don't think so.
Newday,
Interesting theoretical questions on history.
In actuality, the Constitution does not cede that much authority to the federal government, but what it does cede is firmly established and unshakeable.
The two oceans do not protect us from nuclear weapons that is true, but do you really think that someone can come over here and invade without warning?, there is the all too real potential for terrorist attacks anywhere in the country, (for example the Moscow train station attack) but every country had to deal with that.
A direct attack on this country in the manner of a foreign power invading is a strawman argument.
There is no nation on earth that has the resources military or otherwise to effect an invasion of the United States, never have been and never will be (for the foreseeable future).
The Founding Fathers made every effort to make a STRONG federal government, but to also keep that government as small as possible. They didn't want to create an "Imperial" government like the one they had just won a war over, like we have today.
Yes I do believe it Egilman, because they did. 9/11 was an attack on this nation that somehow got by us.
The Founding Fathers centralized the government because it didn't work otherwise. Nothing the Founders did specified "size."
They handled the "Imperial Government" through the addition of the Bill of Rights.
What Paul wants to do is take us back to a time long past. We cannot isolate ourselves, we are a part of the global village. Paul does not recognize that which makes him a danger.
I can't support the man, and I do not think he is emotionally healthy. The evidence of his involvement with the John Birch Society is really all I need to know about him.
9/11 was a terrorist attack. If the terrorists could make it through the Moscow security to explode a bomb in their subway system, Flying an airplane into the towers doesn't seem that implausible no matter what the security we have.
That being said,
Your saying that you do believe there is a force out there in the world that could come over here and invade the USA?
Am I correct on that one?
The statement below pretty much sums this up...
This is your personal stance, mine is opposite of yours we are going to have to agree to disagree on this, there is no way I'm going to convince you otherwise and there is no way you will convince me of the validity of your position.
Thank you for the intelligent conversation and the chance to illustrate the opposing points...
Feisty
You seem to be some what confused. The BREASTS are not involved with reproduction.
Yep, friends can't agree on all. Good discussion, Egilman. But, the definition you are using for attack seems dated. We were attacked by Al Queada. Here. Similar to when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Not sure what the difference would be, since that is what attacks are going to look like now.
I hope so.
Me too Floyd! ☺
Feisty...............get a job and get off welfare................until you pay taxes in this country, you have not earned the right to speak to any issue.
roy,
Where in the Constitution does it say that paying taxes is a requirement for having the privilege of free speach?
Clearly you do not believe in the freedom of speech and the Constitution – shame on you !!!!!!
@roy m-3746032
Anyone who spends this much time posting on Newsvine and somehow manages to be the first poster on so many boards clearly has a job already and you're looking at it. If you're going to insult someone who obviously spends the majority of the day, every day, sitting on their @ss in front of a computer I can think of some better jabs than "get a job". Get a life for example. I'd kill myself if someone forced me to spend so much time in front of a computer. I can't even imagine what sort of person does it willfully.
Feisty needs to be banned. She literally trolls this site waiting to pouce on new articles to be the first post then goes on a rant which has nothing to do with the topic.
Thread styles like this aren't fair because they reward the losers who live on this site while not giving normal people an equal opportunity for their opinion to be read.
And yet, Backcountry...here you are.....
Boys I would suggest that you'll hoe your own row and let Red worry about hers. In the meantime do not take advantage of my brevity this morning to attack any other posters. Tell it to somebody that wants to hear it. Thank you.
Oh my goodness, the RWNJ's sure are in a tizzy this morning over me! lol
You might try switching to decaf boys! ;o)
Dunkin,
You are free to take your doughnuts and go some place else.
Is someone physically forcing you to come here?
Good job, Red.
Sorry guys: Feisty is the main attraction. Live with it or go back to the dark side.
I was having a casual conversation with a good friend - a known conservative thinker whom I respect greatly. He mentioned his surprize that a recent poll showed Obama's popularity rising. The fact is, if your world revolves around listening to specific talk radio and television that tells you what you want to hear, you will start to believe that Obama is an evil, Muslim, Marxist. But, guess what, at least half the country has not bought into that line of thinking - thank God.
This site is going to give you a lot more left-leaning opinions than you will find at Fox - Live with it.
Obama 2012
"Any president whose actions so consistently refute his own words must have deep contempt for the intelligence of the American public."
The Obama administration told U.S. owned Hawker Beechcraft earlier this week they are being excluded from bidding on the US Air Force contract for a light attack aircraft. That leaves Brazilian owned Embraer as the likely recipient of the lucrative deal. I found this one hard to believe so I did a little research. It was tough because this was completely ignored by the main stream media. The information is out there on several conservative sites. Please see the two articles linked below. This is a double slap in the face of the United States . At a time when jobs, the economy, and security are the most critical priorities for our country, the Obama administration decides to send a defense contract to a foreign owned company.
This has to be the stupidest thing this administration has done to date. This is not just a dumb decision; it is a perfect example of why this president is such a poor leader. He talks about wanting jobs. He says we need to force companies to repatriate billions of dollars that Americans keep overseas. He wants to raise taxes so he can spend billions on stimulus that does nothing to stimulate anything. And when it’s time to act, he sends our tax dollars overseas at the expense of American jobs and income for an American company. This is nothing more than a Chicago-style political pay back; but this time it is at the expense of our national security.
How much more damage will Obama be allowed to do in the next 14 months? One of the lead stories in the media this week blasted congress for insider trading. If this contract goes to Embraer it will be a huge pay off to another George Soros company.
When will the 4th estate do it’s constitutionally protected job and expose the real Obama to the American people?

We can no longer depend on the media to pass on any news that might be construed as negative towards the democrats.
Why in the world do you go to the people that you're fighting with and tell them the date you're pulling out your troops?” Romney added
=================================
Mutt seems to forget that george bush set, and announced, a withdrawal date from Iraq. We didn't hear anything from him then. Guess it's ok when a fellow rethugli-con does it but not when a Dem does it.
That seems to be Mutt's problem. A rethugli-con does it (mandated health care)=ok. Dem does it=it's wrong. Now you can see why I refuse to vote for a rethugli-con for President.
GOP=not just the party of NO but also the party of hypocrisy.
Tx up there is spreding chain e-mails. Go Here to get the truth of the matter.........http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/hawker.asp
"He’s not a gifted politician."
Between a gifted economic leader (Romney)who can turn the economy around, and a 'gifted politician' that has devastated the economy (Obama), I'll take the one that can actually help the economy.
Besides, wasn't it Obama that said HIS focus was on helping the middle class, just like Romney did with his comment on keeping a 'safety net' for the poor but focusing on helping the middle class?
Msnbc is their typical 'Lap Dog' for Obama.
Yep, every junior high student knows that snopes is the actual bastian of truth!!!
TXHorseman, I believe your avatar has the wrong end of the horse in the picture...
Belfast Lad----good point. In 2008, many in the nation did not know much about then-Senator Obama. His supporters pointed out positive attributes about him while his detractors noted negatives, many of which were untrue. But 4 years later, Americans have seen him as our President and formed their own opinions. People can differ over his policies and programs---that is what we do in our politics. But the whole birther, Muslim, not one of us thing doesn't work beyond the base of people who bought into it 4 years ago and will never change. It is not the way to get independents to vote for someone else.
Thank You for bringing our people HOME and out of that HELL HOLE. Thank you for legislation supporting same sex marriage. Thank you for legislation SUPPORTING home owners. Thank you for being an ADULT and taking care of business!!!
OBAMA 2012!!!!!!!!!!!
@newdayDAWNING...RETURNED
Yeah and in another 10 minutes I'll be gone. Feisty, on the other hand, will just move on to the next topic and I'm sure you'll follow along right behind her. Your lips do seem to be surgically attached to her @ss after all.
DunkinH "Feisty needs to be banned."
I disagree. Every person has a right to 'free speech'. Besides, she gives us a good representation of the Liberal perspective.
Wow devie, think that one up all by yourself????
By Wayne Allyn Root, June 6th, 2010
Barack Hussein Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent.
To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he's doing.
He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure,
economic crisis and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and
our country from within.Barack Hussein Obama was my college classmate
Columbia University, class of '83).
From Snopes
Hey Tex its called lying and what you did was plagiarism..you made it seem like you wrote that but in reality you didnt..
Yep, use this issue as a "talking point" for re-election, since Mr. Obama CANNOT justify his FAILED Domestic policies.
I would provide links to 15 (others can now be added) COSTLY MAJOR failed domestic issues by Mr. Obama, however the Liberals would collapse the post and call it SPAMMING even though some of the links were from MSNBC.
ROY...."Every person has a right to 'free speech'." Yep, tell that to the Liberal moderator.
Sure, continue with the barrage of additional "agenda issues" to cater to the Liberal voters.
@imwhitewolf
That's because you could be brain-dead and in a coma for 20 years and still be smart enough to realize Bush had no intention of getting out of Iraq. Just like Obama has no intention of getting out of Iraq. Or do you actually believe we need 16,000 people to "staff" our embassy there.
Quit whining. Being first does not mean yours is the only post that is read. Everyone has equal opportunity to be read. Unless you believe Roy:
Who seems to have forgotten that free speech is a cornerstone of this country. No limits on race, creed, color, financial status.
I was under the impression that the republicans were calling for spending cuts, and a balanced budget. I would figure that ending two wars, that we have been fighting for over a decade, would be a good place to start. Didn't the US learn anything, from the occupation of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union? If I remember correctly, it didn't work out very good for the Kremlin.
C166 Do you not see the sources on the bottom???? And I didn't claim to write anything. People posts protions of articles on here daily to make points. You just don't like me posting anything bad about Obama. Isn't it funy how people can bash Mitt and Newt all they want, but post something derrogatory about Obama and the roaches crawl out of the woodwork!!!
BUT if it makes you feel better, I took if from an article I received from a friend. IT is obvious that I didn't write it from the sources printed. BUT there you go!! Better now!!!
I guess I must admit that it is too similar to what MSNBC publishes daily..........!!!!!!!
Maybe Fiesty's job is to be the first to post on these boards. I find many of her comments quite refreshing, amusing, timely and most of all they piss conservatives off!
And, if you can't handle the discussion, you should move on to more juvenile discussions that you can keep up on.
TX, I find it fascinating that the headlines for the articles you links say that the contract has been given to the Brazilian company, but the articles state that it will "probably" be awarded to that company. The articles offer no evidence that it will "probably" be awarded either. Typical RW garbage that only supplies innuendo as a fact. Also, none of those articles emphasize that it was the Air Forces decision and not the President's, which again is typical of those tabloid type websites.
So, it seems Obama is scared that Ron Paul has him beat too, now he has to try to garner support before the election by ending the war finally? Sorry, we aren't buying it Obummer, you're still a warmongering POTUS, this will probably be another campaign lie, a promise to end the war, until you get the votes, then say "nope we have to stay there for another few years!" Just like this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr9ywEFRQkQ
raddave, Who is the commander in chief????????? Typical??? You bet!! Why is there any question??? American military contracts should go to American companies!! Thanks for a rational arguement rather than calling me names though!!! I do appreciate anothers views. Debate is good. People like devie have no idea that some things may be placed just to see what happens.
Behind Enemy Lines -- You are correct!! I agree....Never seems to work BOTH ways though!!!
peace - obama didn't sign the SOFA agreement with iraq.
You need to drill deeper into what obamas home owners support is really about. Last years plan was aimed at supporting the refinancing of those covered by freddi and fannie backed loans (about 90% of government backed mortgages). This go around is aimed at the other 10% FHA backed loans. If aiming at the 90% hasn't been effective why should we expect aiming at the 10% will turn housing around.
I suspect that what obama wants to do within his proposal will more than negate the illusionary help many claim it will have. Interesting that his idea of paying for all oif this is to have banks pay for it, I don't remember the cut off valuation of those banks being required to foot the bill, either $50M or $50B?
Regardless, It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that when costs rise for a private sector business that business merely passes on that cost to the end user (aka you and I).
So we unass a-stan,(it's good election year politics)....then watch iran take them under it's wing, followed closely by the 3rd 'honor killing',peace loving muslim country,pakistan.........good move...the paki's fill in the blanks for irans bomb,a-stan joins the club, and now the destructive ragheads have nukes.............yep!...I feel safer..........The only good news is they seem to love killing each other as much as killing us,so maybe the world will be better off letting them die thru attrition...............and before any never-served posters condem my hatred of them.....I earned that right.........U.S.Army Disabled Veteran
Yep, every educated person knows that factual papers, statements and articles are backed up with reliable sources.
Nice try with the right wing fabrications and innuendo. Better luck next time, TX.
Fiesty looks like it is my turn...............I'll take that margarita now!!!! Mango was it??? HA!
KOMEN. With an "E". If we are going to badmouth a crappy organization for a horrible decision, let's get it right.
just, do you know that Iran is a Shi'a Muslim country, Afghanistan is Suni? Also, Pakistan is Suni and they aren't going to let Iran just waltz into Afghanistan and take over. Iranians aren't Arabic either, so they aren't "ragheads" since that epithet is for Arabs. BTW, as a retiree and a 2 tour combat veteran, I condem (sic) your hatred.
Yes I know devie, the ONLY reliable sources praise Obama.....
Good Morning Tex!
I knew you would succumb to the power of my persuasion! ;op
It's got to be 5:00 somewhere... Coming right up!
Roy Wilson: Talk is cheap, and we all know that politicians lie, cheat, steal, take bribes, etc...; it has also been pointed out by several sources that if you look at the things that Romney is proposing, they sure won't benefit the dwindling middle class, they are once again designed at helping the 3%. I can't for the life of me see how any intelligent person could still be supporting this guy after he told America his overseas accounts were all closed (of course he only did that when he decided to run for President). Anyone who truly believes that he has any concept of what the average American goes through on a day-to-day basis has got to be on some serious $hit. Heck, I'm willing to bet that he has absolutely no idea of what the inside of a Wal-Mart looks like, as they are only there for those of us who that's all we can afford. God as my witness, if Romney is somehow able to win the election in November, we are SCREWED!!!
The contract was awarded to an American company, The Sierra Nevada Corporation, which has a partnership with a Brazilian company. And, you may not trust snopes, but they do provide links to that backs up what they say, they have the report from the air force stating why Hawker Beechcraft was excluded. The report also states that Hawker Beechcraft did not submit a rebuttal to the issues by the suspense date and therefore was excluded. BTW, were you outraged when the Air Force, under the Bush administration awarded the contract for the new air refueling plane to the European Air Defence and Space Company (EADS), the makers of Airbus?
No, reliable sources are ones that do not re-post articles from other sites without verifying the accuracy of that report. Or my favorite FUX nation tactic of taking a legitimate article and slapping a misleading headline on it, knowing that the trogs that visit that site will only read the headline and, maybe, the blurb they provide underneath.
TX Horses#!t man It would be refreshing if you brought true debate to the discussion. All you are bringing is someone elses inaccurate diatribe and trying to defend it and yourself against the real facts. Even if the contract were awarded to Embraer the planes would be built here in America. The Jacksonville comunity is a huge Military one. The award of this contract to Embraer would add American jobs not take them away and it would also add much needed dollars into the Jacksonville economy. You are so consumed with your hate of the President that you are unable to think for yourself. Stop following like a stupid sheep, investigate ask questions and try to form your own opinions. You would be surprised at the empowerment you might feel getting out from behind the a$$ of that sheep in front of you.
raddave, As a matter of fact yes.............By his second term I actually thought that Bush had become a traitor, for lack of a better term. NAFTA another big mistake.
Always amuses me, backcountry, that the right wing cannot understand friendship, and defines it with that kind of vulgarity.
It seems strange to me to announce our withdraw without meeting our goals. It would be demoralizing if I were fighting there, watching my buddies dying, knowing that we are pulling out and all the fighting we are doing means nothing. Why wait. If we are going to do it, lets get out now before anybody else is maimed or killed! What is the point of staying any longer? In 12 months were gone.
Pffft, Tex admited he didn't even bother to find the article himself. It was sent to him by a "friend". In other words, he parroted a chain email and tried to present it as fact with no effort on his part to ensure he was not going to make a fool of himself. You would think repubs would get tired of being made fools of. But alas, they carry on.
NDD,
No kidding!
For the life of me, I can't understand why friendship is such a foreign concept to the RWNJ's?
"You are so consumed with your hate of the President that you are unable to think for yourself."
DP, You don't know me or anything about me, so don't lay that crap on me. Call me names and then try to reason with me. What kind of stupid crap is that? I don't hate the president and actually agree with some of his policies. I hate the partisan crap that is holding this country back.
I read this e-mail and placed it here to get reactions and reacted to name calling and stupidity. Yours included. This president scares me, but my parents were afraid of JFK because he was catholic. We will never know how that might have turned out. I would guess that I was working, contributing and form ing decioions when you were still wet behind the ears. I read snopes and wasn't as convinced as you seem to be. My opinion. I could acuse you of being a stupid sheep and blindly following Obama never qiuestioning his motives. As I stated to raddave, I don't mind the debate. Sometimes I even admit when I am wrong. Time will tell. I'll wait here and see. Should I call you a name now?
TX -
Just a couple of weeks ago our local Jacksonville NBC (I guess that qualifies as MSM) station released the news that the Brazilian aircraft you're complaining about will be built here in JAX and bringing 50+ NEW jobs with it. Our extremely conservative governor (who I personally detest) was very quick to step before the mikes to take credit for this example of how his job-creating strategies are working.
Perhaps you should let him know how unhappy you are that he has put other American workers out of a job.
No SALLY I did not say that, you said that because you feel it somehow discredits. I knew when I placed that article that attacks Obama (No matter the souce) on this vine of mostly liberal democrats that I would get these types of reactions. However, those like raddave and devie actually debate and give strong content to the alternative. I am a grown up and can take criticism. Nothing but a bunch on scar tissue where my butt once was since this ain't my first rodeo.
Fiesty where is that margarita!!!!!!!
Well dk, I guess I stand corrected!! So, beyond the paychecks, where does the millions of dollars for the airplanes go?
Here DP, let me re-post this for you. Another "opinion" that I read.
By Wayne Allyn Root, June 6th, 2010
Barack Hussein Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he's doing. He is purposely overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure,
economic crisis and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and
our country from within.Barack Hussein Obama was at Columbia University, class of '83).
From Snopes
There is much more for those who care to read it.
TX, did you know that EADS has an American subsidiary in the U.S. and those planes were going to be built in Alabama? Did you know that the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and the M240 machine gun were bought from a Belgium company? Did you know some of our first U.A.V.s were bought from Israel? Did you know the main gun on the M1 series tanks was designed by a German Company? Did you know that the FOX Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical reconnaissance vehicle was built by a German company?
We have a long history of awarding contracts, and buying weapons systems from foreign countries.

TX, the contract was awarded to an American company, the Sierra Nevada Corporation, which has a partnership with the Brazilian company. The money will stay here in the Good Ole USA.
I forgot to add that because of heavy lobbying from Boeing, the contract for the new tanker was withdrawn and awarded to Boeing.
The "dyed" in the wool self-labeled redhead (and re-dyes are costly) blabs again... she is the awarded leader of the ego-tripper brigade. And she is increasingly repellent, sigh, to those who prefer facts, not silly assertions with which Madam HairDyed is encumbered.
However, beyond her sad little psychotic disorder of imagining herself "feisty"....
Now suddenly our vaunted White House announced the Middle East war is over? One cannot quarrel with the truly wonderful fact that so many of our soldiers are coming home. But, it is sad that, of course, it does not mean an end of our battle over there, and is certainly not an end to the war. There seems to be a hush about a number of significant soldier replacements or, unhappily, the numbers who do not yet come home. Apparently they are still needed over there.
Or are the words "combat mission" just throw-away lines? My goodness, how stupid does the incumbent of the White House think American citizens are?
When Mr. Obama says "the war in the Middle East is ended," two things become evident. He believes we have lost that war (many of us disagree, of course, what with the virtual elimination of Al-Qaeda and its hot shot leaders, which was the purpose of the American military in the Middle East in the first place. Add to that our ongoing superb ability to have frustrated further action against us... up until Mr. B.O. took over).
And, in addition, are Madam HairDyed's diddly squat opinions, that show her being unaware that this action of ours in Afghanistan has been our defensive action which resulted from the string of 14 Islamic Terrorist attacks on the United States over several decades ... yes, count 'em ... prior to and including 9/11....
Of course, that was before the present Administration. Mr. Obama has never served in the Military and it has become apparent that he doesn't even know the language let alone the acumen of what our Military has accomplished in Defense against the Islamic attempts to destroy us.
Of course, he has also disregarded our Constitution that precludes our starting wars. We are dedicated only to defense, and never initiating attacks as he made upon Libya without even attempting to obtain ratification from Congress beforehand ... ratification by Congress is our Constitutional mandate. Perhaps he does not know the definition of the word "ratification"?
Poor Madam HairDyed does not know what researching facts is all about. At the best her maunderings are Opinions. She cannot seem to be aware that even Opinions must be based on verifiable Fact. But then her program is not intelligent discussion; that's impossible for any insecure ego-trippers.
Were you as equally outraged when Bush initiated attacks in Iraq? We were not "defending" anything then, it was a "preemptive" strike. The President is the Commander-in-Chief, and does not need Congressional approval to give orders to the military, Congress can only declare war, a limited action is not a war. However, the mission in Libya was approved by the UN Security Council, and under the Charter of the UN the President had the authorization he needed, see the UN charter was ratified by Congress.
If you are talking about the War Powers resolution. That is a law that was passed in spite of a Presidential Veto, and which every President since Nixon has maintained that it is UN-Constitutional, the Supreme Court has never ruled one way or the other on this resolution.
@newdayDAWNING...RETURNED
ROTFLMAO!! Oh my God, you've literally got me laughing out loud with this one! Ha! Vulgarity? Are you fcking kidding? You do actually read Feisty's posts right? And you're whining about the "vulgarity"of others as you defend her?? Seriously? Look at her fcking avatar, you don't think that's evidence of "vulgarity" on the left? So are you a hypocrite or just a blind parrot?
And for the record, I'm a libertarian. Don't assume everyone who sees through your BS is "right wing".
Gee I guess BO is getting pressure to stop the Afghanistan war. Makes the announcement before elections but nothing will happen until after elections. Sorry to be such a pessimist but he has lied to me so many times before, I will beleive it when I see it.
Feisty, Two of my loved-ones have been in and out of Afghanistan for the last few years, Thankfully they are home now. The only thing I wish we could do over there before we leave is take all the women who have to live there with us.
Sorry, backcountry: the soul of libertarian is fringe right wing. Go read about the John Birch society.
But, glad my post goaded you. That was the intent. I don't appreciate that kind of vulgarity about friendship, and if you are going to use it, you have no room to be critical of anyone else.
@newdayDAWNING...RETURNED
LOL! Yeah right! The goal of your post was to goad me into being vulgar AFTER you claim I already had been? You were the one being critical of someone else even as you defended one of the most vulgar people on NewsVine. But oh wait...It's only when someone is vulgar specifically about friendship that you have a problem with it, gotcha. That's make perfect sense...LOL! Blatant hypocrisy and your attempt to cover it was utterly pathetic. Thanks for the laugh...again.
Hint backcountry: if you are going to write a response to me, do try to make some sense..
While I enjoy the frantic nature of your response, as it denotes a complete inability to defend your point, it really is a waste of my time.
@newdayDAWNING...RETURNED
Wow, you are as full of shti as they come. Feigning ignorance? You realize that only makes you sound stupid right? And, generally speaking, when people find something to be a waste of their time, they don't waste any time on it. Further evidence of just how full of it you are.
American,
Thank you for the clarification. I totally 'get' that Obama is first and foremost a 'politician'. He has made political decisions that I dont agree with-I'm sure that the things that go on behind D.C.'s closed doors would make all of us want to vomit. Honestly? Gut level honesty-I think there are 'gnomes' (Uber Wealthy) who 'pull the strings'- they have no political affiliations, they have no patriotic loyalities, they have no religious preferences, they are morally and ethically bankrupt-the ONLY thing they care about is amassing more power and more $$$$$$. Americans like to believe that the POTUS is the most powerful leader in the free world-I just dont know anymore. What I do know is this-coming from MY perception of reality, my experience, my personal beliefs etc. etc. I truly believe that President Obama is the lesser of 2 evils- I would prefer a true Patriot. Someone with Integrity (can NOT be bought and does NOT pander to a select group of voters). Someone who truly cares about WE THE PEOPLE-rich, poor and inbetween. Of course we need the rich-they do provide jobs and are absolutely necessary to our system of Democracy and Capitalism. As a "Christian" nation we must also have compassion for the poor. Of course the strength of the middle class is mandatory. A president who is honest and intelligent and will do the RIGHT thing for everyone. Where the heck is Superman when you need him????? These matters are extremely complex with ALL shades of grey. And-I know in my heart that there are Republicans who are intelligent, and have integrity and have the good of WE THE PEOPLE uppermost in their minds. I just dont see any of those qualities in the Republican nominees. (If I did I would vote for the person and not the party). So-for what its worth-I can agree to disagree and wasnt it Voltaire who said "I may not agree with what you say-but I will fight to my death your right to say it"? And isnt that what America is really all about............ FREEDOM?
Hate to give Fiesty any more ammo, ..., Heck no I don't, I actually love it.

Read it and weep, conservatives. ROFLMAO@u
We are spending $2 billion in taxpayer money every week to fight a lost war in Afghanistan. The real question that ought to be asked following this announcement is why our troops can't be pulled out from that country immediately? Why wait for a "slow" withdrawal? They all need to go immediately. No more dollars wasted on foreign adventures when teachers are being laid off in the United States and poor people are dying without medical care. We can't wait to get out of Afghanistan until defense contractors say they're willing to leave... http://www.sunstateactivist.org
As we move closer to the national election, the fight continues and the top two Republicans running are mixed into a fight to the finish. Who will the winner be? Will it be Mitt or Newt.? As far as my view, I don’t care. I just want the two to beat up each other until their individual Republican base is split from each other and solid in their stance of not liking the other.
Then you will hear each of them try to out do the other far as their criticizing the President for his handling the war in Afghanistan and every other issue they can think of, which anyone with an ounce of common sense know is an argument of garbage in their attacks on our President
Of course Newt will continue to race bait and Mitt will continue to make gaffe after gaffe and give the Presidents staff plenty of material, not to mention the material for the late night comics. Of course the nation looks at Mitt and Newt and says is this all there is?
Then as they are distracting the nation you have Republican Governors and others putting the knife into the women in this Nation , by backing groups that want to destroy planned parenthood and send women back to the 1900 era of ‘keep you mouth shut and listen to the man.’
And of course let’s not forget the new villains in the Republican world are those dammed unions, loaded with freeloaders that give their money to those dammed God Less Democrats.
Obama can't redistribute the wealth. Legislative branch (Congress and House) make the laws and controls the money, while the Judicial branch (Supreme Court) interprets them. If you have a problem then take it up with them. Obama is the military's commander in chief and can veto bills if they don't have a large enough majority.
For god sakes, the guy sucks at certain parts of the presidency. We all can admit that. But holding him responsible for the economy when he doesn't control the budget, or for gay marriage rights when he doesn't re-interpret the laws is just stupid as hell.
If you're going to rip on him at least do it for something he did himself. Like ending the wars in a dumba$$ way or appointing cabinet members who are crooked.
@mattpls:
I can tell you know little or NOTHING about military service! Before the US can withdraw from a theater where lives were lost to help the people of a region; that nation must first be secured or we lose all that we have invested in American lives plus our aim/hope for a democratic society to be born. The US needs allies around the world in case war breaks out allowing our opponents to have every advantage. We also need missile bases and large areas to house US troops. That nation which we supported and its army or troops must now be trained to fight and defend their respective countries against regimes that would overtake them as soon as our troops pull out and all becomes lost. It is the entire subject involving exit strategies. It must be properly coordinated. Be patient. The time line I've heard being discussed CAN BE JUSTIFIED!
BTW, contractors ALWAYS profit from war and the sums are indeed staggering! They hang around like blood leeches or damn vultures to pick dry as much as they can until they glean every penny! Contractors from all nations will stay until they are literally kicked out!!! Surely, they help to build and restore the region but it is not for nothing that they stay!
You poor little sheep sure have your one line talking points down pat, when one of the first words we hear in criticizing our President in Socialist. It’s a term like many other political needs of the moment that is used by people to scapegoat to hate and fear.
Of course the rethugli-cons are going to scream. End the wars and you end the the endless waste of US tax dollars that their masters are gorging themselves on. Ironic isn't it but the rethugli-cons yell bloody murder at the "lowlifes" who sux on the public teet but you never hear any protest when big business does it. There is no difference between the two except for the sheer amount of money big business consumes.
benito 044
You have got to be kidding, it doesn't matter who the republican candidate is, we will hold our nose if necessary, and vote for him.
We have no intention of allowing the inept quasi socialist in the white house to redistribute wealth and implode the economy.
===============
benito, as in Mussolini?
Your post is hilarious. You're going to be holding your noise much longer than just while you are in the voting booth. Try four more years. "we have no intention"-----you don't speak for me or a large majority of the people in America. I have no intentions of voting for ANY of the clowns the rethugli-cons have put forth.
At least you now have him as a "quasi-socialist" instead of a full blown socialist, communist, American hating, community organizer. Keep facing the truth, turn away from the dark side that calls itself the Republican Party and you will finally see the light.
JC Breeze - Perhaps I can help a little having spent over 20 years in the Military. In the first place, we did not invade Afghanistan to help the people of the region. We invaded to unseat the Taliban and kill al Qaeda. In the second place, no one I know honestly believed we could force Afghanistan to become a Jeffersonian Democracy. Third, placing missile bases or stationing large numbers of troops in a country like Afghanistan or Iraq would only provide a high value target for terrorists or perhaps the Iranians.
Regarding contractors; there are valuable contracts with private companies. That being said, I believe all Defense Contracts should be subject to review for abuse and cost overrun. Additionally, all contracts related to Combat Service Support should be phased out and the military should revert back to organic Combat Service Support. That whole mess was placed on steroids under the direction of Donald Rumsfeld. It was a mistake then and is a mistake now. IMO, DoD contractors should be placed under the Uniform Code of Military Justice while in-country.
benito 044, pack those bags for Costa Rico, yet? tick, tock, tick, tock...;-)

Doc, that was a well thought out post. I agree with you. While in Iraq, I did enjoy the services provided by KBR, such as the dining facility and laundry service. However, I never did understand why we were paying a company do provide services that the military is capable of. While we were happy to not be eating T-rats anymore, the Army does have cooks. I went on sick-call once and was seen by a contractor, there were Army docs on the FOB. Hell, the army even has laundry units. And, it's not just contracting in combat areas that was a mistake. Rummy decided to cut federal jobs and fill the jobs with contractors. To me that proved to be a disaster. Every time there is a change in mission requirement, the military has to get the contract modified, and usually the contractor is not very willing to make those changes and fights it every step of the way. The Army did start bringing back those jobs back under their control, but because of budget constraints had to put that on hold.
Cynthia, I see you don't have much of a life. LOL! Just what is cynthias point??
Reddav - I asked a similar question to an army buddy of mine on why not have these duties performed by the military? His answer took me aback, the US would have to re-institute the draft to meet the manpower requirements. IE what will cost the US more?
Matt,
Are you stoned??? $2 Billion Dollars a DAY???? LOL
I don't doubt your message, in fact we have accomplished ALL we can over there. Karzai wants us to stay and be his unpaid body guards, so the other Warlaords don't gang up and kick his sorry ass. Not many of the rest of Afghanistan wants us to stay, and the longer we do, Pakistan will continue to fabricate situations to enflame their people against us. Truthfully, if we stay much longer, we will have to fight Pakistan, since they have been SPONSORING Al Qaida from the start. I would just as soon do it from a distance and not sacrifice any more of my fellow service members.
I'm still trying to figure out who in the Bush administration thought Pakistan was an Ally to begin with. We HAVE been spending $3 billion a year for their support...then we find out they have been harboring Bin Laden for 6 years (+) and even built him a multi million Dollar compound, probably paid for out of the Billions we were sending to Pakistan.
American - I suspect your army buddy wasn't in very long. During the mid 70's, at a very low point in end-strength, the US Army provided organic Combat Service Support. Throughout the 80's and 90's and even after the Desert Storm draw-down, the US Army provided their own Combat Service Support. The argument that "the US would have to re-institute the draft" is a straw man. All that is required is a little reorganization (something the Army is very use to). With the money saved from unnecessary contracts, this could easily and quickly be accomplished. It's not just a matter of money, it's a matter of National Security.
Doc, the military still had organic support during OEF and OIF, and still has them. My first 6 months in Iraq, all our meals were provided by Army cooks, we had shower service, laundry service, medical service, all provided by Army personnel. Then KBR came in and took over all those operations. Thank God, I never had to use any of the KBR shower trailers though.
Military Man, Matt said $2 billion a week, not day. Which sounds about right.
Good work, Cynthia. Thanks for sharing that information.
Exactly! Thank you very much raddave! The infrastructure has never "gone away". The whole idea to CSS being replaced by private contractors had nothing to do with saving money or efficiency. You brought up a great point in 3.11 above. The military has to shift mission on a dime! There are NO private companies capable of the mission flexibility comparable to the military. We can't stop operations and re-negotiate contracts. This is a no brainer. I am also a firm believer that all weapons systems and components of weapons systems should by law, be manufactured in the US. Again, this is a matter of National Security.

Raddave, if you were counting the cost of Iraq also. Probably closer to $1.2 billlion a week on Afghanistan alone. Would need to find a reliable breakout of current costs...
Yeah, I forgot that the figure was from both wars, sorry.
Doc, I think there is a law that requires that in order for a company to get a weapons contract that they have to have a subsidiary here in the U.S. But, somethings, foreign countries have better designs, or have it already, and therefore should be bought. I used the FOX reconnaissance as an example above. During Desert Storm, the military required a vehicle capable of doing chemical reconnaissance, and needed it ASAP. The Germans already had the FOX in use, and we leased them from the Germans, ended up buying them.
@Cynthia's Point
Wow. Obsess much?
Cynthia's Point......persistent little bugger, isn't he? Good work.
Backcountry164 & american, you can call it a "Fairness Doctrine" if you like. Karma really is a bitch, eh? Grave dance on this one-again. ;-) http://youtu.be/_UbGtjnluyY

Yes and no.
You people think you've nailed Ol' Mitt, don't you? Wrong. Who cares if the LIBERAL MEDIA wants to take his words out of context for political purposes? The general public knows this and can see this. Why do you think nobody watches Soledad Brother O'Brian and her hack, left-wing network? What do you think's gonna happen, the "very poor" aren't gonna vote for him? BFD. First of all, the "very poor" don't usually vote anyway. They're too busy doing the things that made them very poor to begin with; drugs, alcohol, popping out more kids than they can afford etc...What makes you think that people who are that irresponsible actually take the time to be responsible and vote?
Damage123===Was it Bush 43 that made you so bitter?
Damage123
You people think you've nailed Ol' Mitt, don't you? Wrong. Who cares if the LIBERAL MEDIA wants to take his words out of context for political purposes?
Actually, Willard nailed himself then took his own words out of context. Did you not hear how he tried to clean his gaffe up?
No one has to watch Soledad. It's all
A late happy birthday to your dad, Beverly, and many more!
What, you don't think that the Romney Campaign should be more concerned about what the Gingrich Campaign is going to do with what Willard said yesterday?
Look, I get context and all that but that single sentence is an attack ad that writes itself.
Bitter? Who's bitter? I'm just stating the obvious. And if any of the "very poor" DO vote, they've usually already been duped into voting for the Dems anyway because the Dems are the ones promising all the goodies and free handouts.
Romney says his focus is not on the "very poor" or the "very rich", and that his focus will be on the middle calss. That's as it should be. The only people who disagree with that are people who want him to lose.
Yes DaNoid. It will be used. Maybe Romney's people need to break out that film of Obama saying "I've learned that through my Muslim faith that....I mean my Christian faith......." and use ONLY the first part of the quote. That would be funny. Get people believing again that he might be a muslim.
Damage,
The Right is very upset with this statement for 2 reasons: 1-He should have simply stated he wants to help the middle class and 2-he said if the “Safety Net” for the poor is broken “he would repair it” which is against all Conservative principles and is a Liberal policy.
Yes, Dennis. 1) True. 2) He 's giving ammo to those who say he's not conservative enough. But at least he's not a liberal, so they should lay off a little.
The liberals here and elsewhere are, of course, outraged at that he said "I'm not concerned with the very poor" and that's all. They know that a quick, short soundbite like that will go a long way with LOW IQ type of people and Obama groupies. But guess what, those people are already voting for Obama no matter what.
Romney meant every word he said. He's not concerned about the rich because they'll vote for him anyway, he's not concerned about the poor because they don't vote, he's only concerned about the middle class because that's where he can get the votes. this is what he really meant with his statement about the poor and rich. Romney doesn't care about anybody but Romney.
The only phrase the tea people GOP republicans know is taken out of context. If their candidate makes a stupid statement or tells the truth as Romney did then is has to have been taken out of context.
newdayDAWNING...RETURNED
A late happy birthday to your dad, Beverly, and many more!
Thanks newday
I enjoyed the time I spent with my nonagenarian dad. I sure hope I live 9 decades too. For one thing I'd like to see how this world changes.
He must be an amazing man, Beverly, and I hope I make it that long too.
Are you sure?
"I am, in fact, the legitimate heir of the Reagan movement, not some liberal from Massachusetts." - Newt Gingrich - 1/29/2012
"This party is not going to nominate somebody who is a pro-abortion, pro-gun-control, pro-tax-increase liberal." - Newt Gingrich - 1/29/2012
It seems that Newton thinks Willard is a liberal. Did he not get the memo?
Damage, if Mitt Romney hadn't already said some other gems, he might have been given a little more consideration that he misspoke but when one has already said:
Corporations are people, my friend,
I like to fire people,
I'm unemployed too
I've worried about getting a pink slip
Not much money for speaking engagements.....over $375K in a year
Tax returns showing he makes over $57K .....a day
We already have those in our minds, it is easy to for that gaffe to play into the others.
Get the hate out of your heart and mind, it will help you be a more rational thinker. Try it, you might like it. Now you just come across as someone off the wall and not a very nice one at that.
This is hilarious . . . Damage complaining because Romney's comment was "taken out of context" (which it wasn't). The very first commercial that Romney had against President Obama was the one where while campaigning (Senator) Obama was quoting one of McCain's staffers and Romney's campaign ad took it completely out of context (I call it a lie!). Remember that??!! What goes around comes around!! Romney, and those who defended that ad, have no room to complain!!
Also, does anyone else find it hypocrytical that Romney talks about the safety net for the very poor and he will fix it if needed? Yet, the budget he supports cuts Medicaid by trillions of dollars and food stamps by 20%, you know, two major programs that help the very poor!
Here is an article today in USA today on conservatives attacking Romney. It seems many are not happy with him.
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2012/02/mitt-romney-very-poor-criticism-rush-limbaugh-/1
It seems many feel the poor should not be helped through government. But they sure are quick to take their handouts from government. They like all those special tax breaks written especially for them.
Damage--Even Rush Limbaugh jumped on him for that. You can dance around it all day but Mitt simply said something REALLY STUPID. Then he said even more stupid things trying to backpeddle on the INITIAL stupid and insensitive comment. He does this type of thing all the time!
I guess you're filthy rich like him so you want to support him--hey it's a free country. But for the rest of us real-life Americans--we see a phony.
BTW--the middle class is on the brink of, and very worried about the possiblity of being the "poor" and "very poor"- Thats the bulk of people in the country.
The only low IQ folks who are Obama groupies are the former Republicans who got sick of their original parties' BS and talking points and switched sides. Least they were smart enough to let COMMON SENSE prevail....whats your excuse.
Unless you're uber-rich like ol Willard-you're just another chicken supporting colonel Sanders..
@Gingerbread Mamma
?? That doesn't even make sense. The fact that he repeatedly puts his foot in his mouth is a clear indication that he has a habit of doing just that. Anytime he says something "dumb" anyone listening should realize he has a habit of wording things poorly. Frankly anyone who doesn't realize what he was saying shouldn't be allowed to vote due to their shear stupidity. There are far too many "stupids" voting now, our latest two Presidents are proof beyond doubt of that.
Romney trips over himself at some point when he is not scripted, almost every time.
Ask Romney what it is like being on-camera for even a few hours per day. The President has been on-camera all day, every day for the last three years, dealing with thousands of domestic and international issues and thousands of people.
And in an atmosphere of open, relentless non-support by right wing leaders and officials and right wing faux media.
Backcountry....it makes perfect sense to me. I also has many of his supporters including the biggest loudmouth of all... Rush very upset with him, but for different reasons.
If you cant see how damaging a remark such as this is, then you too, are tone deaf. Before you go vote, read up on your chosen candidate and your party, with a view, to finding out if they will be there for ALL our citizens during their term. As of now, it doesn't seem that will happen. By their words we shall know them, by their actions we shall also know them.
I want a President whose focus is on ALL of the people. THAT'S as it should be.
Backcountry

Really? Well what does it say about the TelePrompter in Chief then? We've heard some of the things he's said when he didn't know the mic was on but something tells me your opinion of him is different.
Aside from that I have the ability to think at a level above that of a 4 year old so I easily understood what he was trying to say. Maybe you should consider retaking kindergarten if you're actually having trouble with it.
But a simple response to simple minds. I had at first wanted to rant about posters collapsing posts, but then I received an email claiming that I had offended ‘true’ Christians:
Subject: Jesus was NOT a community organizer
Name: Bert Farve
Email: tollyvolley@comcast.net
Message:
Please, sir. Jesus was NOT a community organizer. He was and is God’s son sent as an atonement for mankind’s sin. It is offensive to Christians, real ones anyway, when you insult their Lord. Having said that, we real Christians will forgive you. May you have a blessed life and one day be drawn to the truth.
What is offensive is to have someone other than I define what is true to me or to anyone else. Conservative politics of the day have recast ‘community organizer’ into something to be derided; painting all who are with the same brush. If you are offended, then be so towards those who skewer words to meet an agenda that has nothing to do with religious beliefs. The same has been done with a number of words: liberal, progressive as examples have both become pejorative. Can I not now say Jesus was a progressive? What I know of him is that he certainly was. I also know that he gathered disciples and sent them out to spread the gospel and thereby create new communities of a truer religious belief, the Community of Jesus and God. Jesus was a progressive! Jesus was a community organizer!
I have heard the voice of drugged aching
sing with angels
I have seen the sanctimonious sea parting
I have walked through the shadow of false goodness
I have lain with Mary Magdalena and found her innocence
I have believed and then questioned for that is righteous
I have seen the face of God
dancing under morning’s shimmering leaves
and in waves that swallowed people whole
I walk with Him to lose Him
And without Him to find Him
And so I dance
One eye knowing and the other not
The light in either growing to what I thought naught.
Beautifully said--right-on ideology! Bravo!
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
Wow, ideo: You just can't make this stuff up. Of COURSE Jesus was a community organizer. He was trying to organize His world to believe in God, and take care of those who needed help. He was the world's first Liberal. And for the gazillionth time, the man who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance, Frances Bellamy, preached a sermon on how Jesus was a Socialist. Makes perfect sense too, Jesus preached that you have to give up your worldly goods to follow Him.
So good for you for rattling those who claim to believe, but do not understand the message.
Ideology...... dont you just 'love' these self righteous *ricks? Well said by you.
You did good.
ideologyspoilstheview
It's great to have you point to the hypocrisy. But, just wait after the Prayer Breakfast all the FOX NOISE idiots will be out lambasting our President and questioning his faith 3..2..1..
Not one shout out to ole rev wright or any of his atheist followers????
GBM: Love the avatar. The Claddagh, love, loyalty and friendship. Good reminder. Have mine on always.
Gary, maybe you forgot. Rev Wright already told us that "them JEWS ain't gon' let me see him."
Ideology,
Great!
ideology,
There are many methods of evangelization for Christians. The email you received is typical of bad theology and self righteous of many "true" beleivers.
Jesus brought the good news of God to the people.
"The good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, and to give new sight to the blind; to free the oppressed and proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord"
Jesus by the way loved poetry. He was always quoting the psalms.
Ideology,
I see Gary and Damage were in your thoughts as you wrote this. :)
Gosh, People such as Gary and Damage hate and are so afraid of our President. I wonder what the deep seeded reason behind such hate and fear is?
Oh my, the race card, well you know wht I say shove it up your AZZ!!!
Thanks NDD, I wear mine all the time too. I also thought it would be a nice symbol for Heart Month, I love that it symbolizes Love, Fidelity and Friendship and wear it proudly as I'm sure you do too.
As do all my cherubs, GBM
I would like to note it is also Black History month.
Gary,
You sure are an angry person for now. Hopefully, in the Presidents second term you will mellow some and be as proud of our President as the rest of the Nation and the World is.
(I need a ) JOB1-- I'm sorry. Your race card is expired. Would you like me to cut it up or would you like to try another card?
If Obama was a conservative, I would love him! With that charisma, looks, great speechifying ability. But he's not. He's a socialist. That means he wants to radically change the America that has been just fine for all these years. For that, he's got to go. I knew it would be a big problem electing a black liberal as president. I predicted that all the excuse-making, whining, race card pulling that we saw in all other aspects of life by black and white liberals would then be used as an issue with the highest office in the land. Obviously I was right.
Besides. If Obama WERE a Republican, YOU and all the other imbecilic hypocrites on this site would be calling him a "hankercheif head, house negro Uncle Tom. There is NO doubt about that whatsoever. Now go paste something.
Damaged, it's nice to hear that your race card never expires.
phine, Sad to see one my faves growing up, Don Cornelius, killed himself yesterday.
Nothing better than the Soul Train Line dance.
Don Cornelius was the epitome of cool.
Dude wore some great suits....
Now please, Gary and Damaged, call the Whaaambulance.
It’s funny when one of the first words we hear in criticizing our President in Socialist. It’s a term like many other political needs of the moment that is used by people to scapegoat to hate and fear.
...and the world is far less funky today.
WCA,
The news about Don Cornelius was truly sad. I wonder if he did it because of the old divorce or the poor health? I loved "Soul Train" (I watched all the dance shows and would try the moves out in front of the tv)
Da Noid,
You are so right. Remember the term "funkilicious"?
phine, you're not the only one who picked up moves from the Dance lines on Soul Train. Got some of my best moves from there.
"Wishing you Peace, Love and Soul!"
Detroit had a knockoff show called The Scene that was a low budget version of Soul Train. Use to watch that all the time. Drove my mom crazy.
Gary K-2697770
Not one shout out to ole rev wright or any of his atheist followers????
You are a classic case of the study Feisty posted. Rev Wright is not an atheist and he served this country in the Armed forces. Plus he helped save President Lyndon Johnson's life.
See--->http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e9/Jeremiah_Wright_as_a_Marine_Medic_Tending_to_Pres_Lyndon_Johnson.jpg/800px-Jeremiah_Wright_as_a_Marine_Medic_Tending_to_Pres_Lyndon_Johnson.jpg
He also has a Doctor of Ministry degree. When did stupid @ss Sean Hannity who can't open his mouth without mentioning Rev Wright daily (it's like Hannity has OCD ) serve this country whose life has Sean Hannity saved?
I know Sean Hannity is ripping his wounded warrior foundation off.
WCA,
Ironic thing, just Friday night we were talking about "Soul Train" and Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" and other shows like that. Mr. phinephancy was "trying" to show off some of his more "soulful" moves. Didn't quite come off that way. (White men over a certain age should NOT try and show off their "souful" and "groovy" moves)
Hope he didn't hurt himself!
When I show my young daughters my moves I usually get hit with "Oh no, Dad!! Please don't! You're emberassing us!"
So naturally I break them out whenever we are in a public place....
Hey! Embarassing our children is our number job! Did you see Ali's old trainer, Angelo Dundee also died? He was 90. (BTW, a heating pad and much Advil were needed the next day for Mr. phinephancy aka twinkle toes)
Yes I did hear about Dundee, makes me worried that Ali may not be far behind. He is only 70 though. Hopefully he will be around for a while.
WCA,
When you see the people you grew up with dying off, it sure does make one feel old. I still want to remember them, and myself, in our prime!
GREAT post, Ideology!
Jesus was very obviously a socialist liberal, and proud of it. I've always found it a very interesting comparison that He was persecuted and handed over to the evil Romans by the hateful right-wing religious zealots of his time.
Here's a great website for you Liberal Christians out there: http://www.liberalslikechrist.org/default.html
Gary, you and Damage obviously don't understand that freedom of religion means freedom of ALL religion. Incluiding freedom of NO religion. Including freedom of whatever belief it is that you subscribe to.
Oh, and Feisty, in response to the Damage123's of the world, (since I'm on the religious theme) here's an appropriate quote from somebody who knew the score:
"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who went before you."
OK damage...since you've elected to throw-down, give us some examples of how President Obama is more of a "socialist" than GW Bush. I don't mean more of a liberal, I mean more of a socialist. And don't tell me what his intentions are. His intentions are his own and I can't read them. Tell me what he has done that is more "socialist".
ideo - I see you want to redefine the term "community organizer" to support your assertion. Why not sell your argument on what todays definition is?
I will never proclaim myself to be a biblical scholar. However, my take away is that Christs message was always oriented to the individual, be they rich or poor, jew or not. The message was always about meeting the individuals level of need through a faith in Gods vision.
Your post above also reminds me of how the bible warns us that satan has the ability to influence many with spin. Interesting on how much rhetoric you use to support your argument with so little of it actually supporting it.
Wonderful, Guesswhat54! Thanks!
When all else fails, play the poor little christian.
american ...
Community organizing is a process where people who live in proximity to each other come together into an organization that acts in their shared self-interest. A core goal of community organizing is to generate durable power for an organization representing the community, allowing it to influence key decision-makers on a range of issues over time. In the ideal, for example, this can get community organizing groups a place at the table before important decisions are made.[1] Community organizers work with and develop new local leaders, facilitating coalitions and assisting in the development of campaigns.
Faith-based community organizing (FBCO), also known as Congregation-based Community Organizing, is a methodology for developing power and relationships throughout a community of institutions: today mostly congregations, but these can also include unions, neighborhood associations, and other groups. [5]Progressive and centrist FBCO organizations join together around basic values derived from common aspects of their faith instead of around strict dogmas. There are now at least 180 FBCOs in the US as well as in South Africa, England, Germany, and other nations.[6] Local FBCO organizations are often linked through organizing networks such as the Industrial Areas Foundation, Gamaliel Foundation, PICO National Network, and Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART). In the United States starting in 2001, the Bush Administration launched a department to promote community organizing that included faith-based organizing as well other community groups.[7]
Wikipedia
If you disagree then please supply your definition. Your argument contains no argument.
Sally...not sure what you're talking about...nothing's "failing" at all. And...I'm not 'playing' anything.
American...your post demonstrates all that is wrong in today's ultra-right religious sect...they can't seem to ever say something civil like, "I disagree with your opinion."
Instead, it seems it often has to be, "What I believe is right, so what you believe & say is obviously the work of Satan."
Unlike you, I was very much a biblical scholar in my youth, and I am ashamed today of the venomous, hateful trash that professed "Christians" on the political right spew on a daily basis. The caveat...there is obviously enough "sin" on both sides of the political spectrum, but the hypocrisy of those who most profess their 'holiness' is what has become self-evident.
And, hypocrisy is one thing Christ detested above many other sins of His time.
ideo - The argument is that Christ was a community organizer. The typical secular definition is as you presented. Based on the objectives stated in your first paragraph, Christs recorded actions do not fit.
In the same manner, Christs recorded actions do not fit your definition of a faith based community organization.
You can make an argument that over time and as different Christian sects developed, that community organization occurred, but not that Christ himself was one. ie, Christ did not tell his disciples to go forth and organize to be facilitators between the secular powers that be and those that followed the teachings of God or in the case of Christians the teachings of God through Christ.
Now if you can show that all Christian sects are in lock step with each other, one might imply that Christ was a community organizer, but good luck with that.
Quess what 54....
Interesting that you think that just stating "I disagree with your opinion" is sufficient or that one should be denied offerring up points made in the bible, torah or koran. Of course I am assuming that the torah and koran make similar observations.
Would you say that todays religious christian organizations (churches) exclude democrats? Independents? Republicans? Athiests? ETC... or are open for all to make their own decision as to stay or go?
You assume that anyone making an observation about satan is a zealot. Yet you ignore that many over time have analyzed literature to try and understand what the authors intent or message was. From my own past I can recall having assignments to discuss the messages given by orwells "animal farm" or "catcher in the rye" by j.d. salinger.
You are right in that many take a hard line in their approach of what a religious text means just as many others take a hard approach to what political ideology to support.
I was raised as an episcopalian and by the time I graduated from HS I had a rather sour opinion on any type of organized religion. Obviously as time progressed and my understanding of the bible did as well. I still have a distrust of organized religion but as I stated above...
Other than Christs outrage at the temple money lenders, didn't Christ always try to meet a persons needs? Todays zealots have indeed forgotten this simple principle?
Interesting of how you jumped to a conclusion on what I said, but ideology was trying to sell a point only on rhetoric and generalities. You and ideology are more than welcome to read the new testament to point out how Christ was a facilitator between the populace of the day. At best, one can infer that Christ was the facilitator between God and us.
That war is over? Should be. If you recall, we went there to get Bin Laden. Or was Bush lying to us AGAIN, and wanted to engage in nation building? Nope that couldn't be it, Bush said he was against that...until he was for it.
I don't think an argument can be made about Romney be taken out of context either. This is a man who thinks $300,000+ is chump change. He certainly can't understand those who barely get by. What he said is true. He doesn't think much about the poor, except to wonder why they don't pull themselves up by their bootstraps like Mittens did. Of course, starting out with a dad who was rich, who was in politics, whom people wanted to please, might have given Mittens a huge leg up.
Mittens misses the part where his party is in the process of destroying any safety net that exists for the poor and disabled. Just like Victorian times, they want the churches to take care of it. The reason those safety nets are in place is that the churches CAN"T DO IT!
But as long as Mittens and his crew are well fed and well funded, the heck with everyone else.
Right on. Keep Big Business rolling along making more money and screw everything else.
NewDay--the President and Secretary Panetta are saying that we learned a lesson in how to get out of a country with Iraq and we are going to apply it to our exit from Afghanistan, one that has already been in the works. We simply can't afford to stay there any longer. As the President made clear in the SOTU message---spending decisions have to be made with an eye to where the funds come from---either taxes have to be raised or a program that benefits middle and lower earning Americans has to be cut.
And, SF: we met our stated goal. To get Bin Laden. Thanks to the courage of our President, as well as the courage and skill of the SEALS.
NDD - Robert Reich correctly points out that the while the Republican Party pouts and screams about Socialism, it is really the party that supports Social Darwinism.
Many on the right here also like to paint a false picture that we are a society of meritocracy, yet nothing could be further from the truth. If we were truly a society of meritocracy, hard work would be equally compensated. A hard working successful teacher, fireman, policeman or trash collector would earn the same as their successful counterpart in professional sports, the entertainment industry, or the vulture capitalist society. We do not see any of the former with multi-million dollar salaries and golden parachutes.
You have to love it when nonsensical posters jump on here and droll on about class warfare with outlandish claims that we shouldn't envy the rich and their wealth. As a whole, Americans do not envy of the rich, rather what is unfair is the lack of meritocracy. Liberals do not believe in true socialism, we abhor Social Darwinism, we believe in a level playing field (meritocracy).
To my fellow moonbats (thanks DaNoid), the next time a low IQ uneducated fool (thanks Feisty) attempts to equate class warfare to meritocracy, keep in mind that class warfare is code for Social Darwinism, the true Republican Party value.
RedDev, thanks for a great and informative post.
Haha .. re-reading this line, I realized it was quite the gaffe. I should have said (thanks for the post Feisty). Apologies for not wording it well.
RedDev: Excellent points as always. It is also the right, particularly Gingrinch who make use of Saul Alinsky's points on how to organize while excoriating others.
Hard to get over the hypocrisy.
Feisty, great post. Being stupid and or willfully ignorant are the hallmarks of the rabid right, thus enabling those who are supposed to be better educated play into the close mindedness of racists and bigots. Perhaps because these well educated and well heeled, have nothing else to offer to those bereft of compassion and empathy as they have none themselves.
GBM - The well oiled right also like the cheap labor that comes with close minded crowd. They equate low-IQ and high bias to low salaries and high devotion.
Hence the circle of laizze-faire capitalism that permeates this society. Economic Darwinism means that those with the advantages already will more than likely retain those advantages making the rest of us have to fight harder for some just compensation. A great book that descibes what we have been going through took place in the 14th century with the hundred years war, (Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror").
Brain Damage 123-- You're kidding right?
Should be hearing the outrage from the right wing any minute now, GBM and Tom.
Damage just offered the proof to the study.
Right on NDD....... I just got through listening to the President's remarks at the National Day of Prayer Breakfast. I just hope the republican candidates were listening, they might get some insight into how to be President of all the people.
As they are now, they have a long way to go and much to understand of what it means to be President of the United States, ALL 50 States, its Territories and ALL who reside in them.
I hope they are capable of taking in the message, GBM. Sadly, I don't think they are.
No Tom. I'm not. What part did you find to be an attempt at humor?
Trump and Gingrich...it'll be a cringe-worthy moment.
Isn't Gingrich Trump with better hair?

PatHuntington $ Amy What the HELL does what you state have anything to do with the subject at hand. I think both of you are RABID. There is more in life than Obama and his goons.
END THE WAR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amy, I love your flag!
yes amy, your flag is so much about proclaiming divisiveness over unity, a hard economic landing over a soft one and a philosophy of blame rather than accepting responsibility.
KISS....OMG 2012....Obama Must Go 2012.
LOL look how easy it is to whip the repubs into a frenzy. Tee hee hee!repubs You guys are just too easy.
We can only hope that not one more American military personnel or anybody else for that matter is killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. But make no mistake about it, we will be spending billions more in these countries in the next few years.
Jobless claims drop shows improving labor market! Thanks Backhouse!
The Teabagger/Republicians will be upset with this good news! The Party of Hatred of anything good!
Really?? Why would they?
Awwwww . . . Friend of First Read . . . I wanna be one . . . is there a T-Shirt! :o)
We should all have FOFR mouse pads to keep by our computers!
Hey there Steeler Fan . . . I am thinking the FOFR mouse pad is a brilliant idea . . . or maybe we should just form a Super Pac instead! lol
We could do some serious spending with a Super PAC, Nash. All we need are a few really rich people to give us money and off we would go.
I'll give Mitt Romney a call Steeler Fan . . . he can make money appear out of thin air! :o)
If all else fails, we can see if Fannie and Freddie need any more historians! lol
Nash---our Super PAC would be off to a good start if Mitt would give us one months' income----$1,710,000.
One more time obama proves he's an idiot!!!
Let's announce to our enemy our every move!!!
We need a LEADER in the white house!!!
So let me get this straight...
The Conservatives want to paint Afghanistan as "Obama's War" but when Panetta announces an end to combat operations and an eventual withdrawl y'all are gonna get all pissy and say we can't announce it?
So, what, are you suggesting an unlimited operation?
...or are we supposed to just up and leave one day unannounced?
...and, by the way, since when is our departure from Afghanistan our problem? Isn't it Hamid Karzai and the Afghan's problem?
We could lay out our entire battle plan and it wont make any difference. Our military will go in do what it does and be shot in the back by the same people they are there to protect. Its not like we are in a conventional war where this type of information is critical. We are in a guerilla war, and we have our troops playing nation builders and peace makers. We could be there for 1,000 years and there will be no change in the hearts or minds of those people. They enjoy the 3rd century BCE. Let them live in it and get the hell out. We should throw a going away party for ourselves and invite all the Taliban. Maybe they will give us a good send off. The afghanis just want the foreigners out. If this was going on here, Im sure you would be a good citizen and roll over and take it from the occupiers. We are done there. Osama is dead. Time to reset the war machine.
Gary:
Do you really believe that the Afghans and our "enemies" won't be able to see/know EXACTLY when we start pulling out? You think there are no spies or loose lips in the Afghani government and/or close to where our troops are based?
It makes no difference if we announce our withdrawal ahead of time.
Ignorance really must be bliss.
We completed our goal of finding those responsible for 9/11(and killing Bin Laden). Time to leave and focus on REAL problems(like our own domestic security and borders).
We went in to get Osama bin Laden. Mission accomplished. He got the kind of justice most neo-conservatives had been dreaming about for a decade. Why on Earth should we waste a single penny more on that hell hole? Oh right, we're nation building.
Tell me, any conservative poster here on the vine, why is Afghanistan falling apart the US's problem once our men and women in uniform are out of harm's way? We have huge deficits and huge debt, how is the cost of maintaining a large military presence in Afghanistan justified? Why does it matter if we say we're leaving and then leave?
@American Lobo
Really? That's funny because the generals in charge of this war seem to see it differently. Personally I have no clue but I don't think I'd be going out on a limb by suggesting they may have a better grasp on the situation than an armchair, internet "quarterback" such as yourself.
I can tell you all why the GOP is so interested in staying there, on top of "nation building" the largest mineral deposit in the world has been discovered in Afghanistan. to put it quite simply, they see a poor nation, that is their view, in need of exploitation.
no big deal making the announcement... I'm thinking they would have noticed the humvee packing up and leaving..
Just last administration we announced the upcoming end to Iraq occupation.. did not hear McCain pissing and moaning then.
Just anything to complain about. No problem with ending the war I guess; just felt like crying that we should not announce it.
Poor President, can't seem to do anything "right"..pun intended
Tommy-499410
The Market is not up its down . Dont you just love a teabagger if you really know what one is.
I have a simple question that I would love for some intrepid journalist to find the answer to:
What LEGAL thing could one do, without making any actual product, that would leave one with hundreds of millions of dollars in PURE PROFIT? (And that is just the Romney share, think of all the other folks who got rich as well!)
I cannot for the life of me figure out what SPECIFICALLY Mitt Romney has done to "earn" all of that money . . . does anybody know? How can you make that kind of money legally by buying and selling companies? That is one HELL of a return on investment, no?
Something is rotten in Denmark.
Not sure what your question is but if you think the government bail-out of GM worked then you may have an answer. Bain went in, changed management, updated the product line and created a new business plan.
The only difference between Bain and the Federal Government is that they used their own money and made a profit. The Federal Government used borrowed money and are still owed around 24B. Of course Bain would have cut benefits on the pension plan and be called evil capitalists, but luckily we the taxpayer will be there to bail out the $128B GM pension plan.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/gm-should-buy-back-us-taxpayers-shares/2011/12/05/gIQAvC7rXO_story.html
Nashville Fan--Do you really not understand? Let me explain it to you because two large private equity companies are trying to buy American Airlines out of bankruptcy which is the same thing. So Mitt helps form Bain private equity and he raises a ton of money from institutions like endowments, union pension plans etc? He then invests this money into distressed and undervalued companies. So lets take American Airlines and lets say he buys AA using $1 billion of investor money and a bank like JP Morgan lends him the rest and they pay $2 Billion for it out of bankruptcy. So now Bain attempts to fix its business model which could include significant reductions in payroll so the company can survive and not go back into bankruptcy while providing strategic leadership for it to grow and eventually hire additional payroll.
Because these types of investments are extremely risky, the institutional investors have high return expectations generally north of 20%. Because they are risky, many of these investments will fail and go bankrupt anyway because you couldnt save them but in Bain's case they had several that worked extremely well and the companies survived and thrived. Private equity firms generally earn 20% of the profit upon sale sometimes above a certain return or of the total. So in the AA example, if Bain sold AA 5 years later for $3 billion (a 50% increase over 5 years which isnt really that great), their investors would have earned $1 billion after paying the bank back its loan over the equity it put in. Bain would keep $200 million of that profit. You can see where you can start making alot of money quickly if you are successful. It doesnt have to be one hell of a return on your investment because you are investing large sums of money and the investors such as the union pension plans are also making a ton of money and dont have to invest with Bain if they dont want to. So nothing is rotten in Denmark
@Kirk-2957282
Hate to say it Kirk but that's 10 minutes of your life you won't get back. People like Nashville don't really want to understand it. They WANT to believe something nefarious has taken place and nothing you say will dissuade them from that preconceived notion. Surely you don't think these sorts of people are going to take your word over that of their puppet-masters?
Dear Kirk and Alan:
Thanks for the distractions and fuzzy math . . . really! Reminds me of the corporate fairy tales my old friend Bill used to spin for me regularly . . . never specifics . . . just alot of warm and fuzzy talk of benevolent corporations coming in to save us all while also making a tidy profit . . . so sweet!
P.S. GM Alan? So, in closing, you don't know how Mitt did it either, eh? lol
Backcountry:
"These sorts of people", eh?
You are too funny . . . and you don't know what Mitt did to earn that money either.
I mean, why should we ask questions of folks running for the highest office in the land, right?
I mean, it is much more relevent to look for the President's birth certificate (long form of course) instead of Mitt Romney's taxes.
Makes perfect sense . . . I must just be feeling "envious". :o)
I know more of what he did with his life up to this point than the President's. It must hurt that you can't use the old "he inherited it" to explain Romney's wealth. No he's an out-and-out capitalist. He made his money by investing in troubled companies and has had a few successes. If this is not enough detail what exactly are you looking for. Maybe if you ask a specific question you'll get a specific answer. If you ask a general question you should not be disappointed if you get a general answer.
BTW, hows that 800B in stimulus working out. Can you name one long-term concrete result of the stimulus? A new road, a bridge, a dam, maybe even a new lane on a road. If you want to compare the President's success at investing with Romney's I think you lose.
Alan:
Now we both know . . . I will find the specifics myself . . . never fear . . . and when I do, I will most certainly share the answer! :o)
P.S. President Obama and the stimulus have done a fine job pulling this country back from the second great Depression, brought on by crony capitalists like none other than Mitt Romney. That is just a fact Alan.
Had a very wise accounting prof years ago that said any good businessman always has 3 sets of books - 1 to show the IRS how much money the business is losing....1 so prospective buyers could see how much money the company was making and 1 that only the busnissman would see which were the actual numbers......
as somone also said - you can make statistics say anything you want......
No it's not a fact, it's an opinion.
@Nashville_fan
I know he's not in jail and that he's never been investigated or even accused of committing a crime. Well, not by anyone who has a clue, by which I mean I am excluding baseless rhetoric by your "sort of people"
Comparing yourself to morons, how appropriate. I will give you credit for admitting the stupid fantasies on the left are just as bad as those on the right.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!! The stimulus was the single greatest example of crony capitalism EVER! Surely you don't actually believe it was just a coincidence that such a large percentage of the money went to people who backed Obama? No one could possibly be that stupid.
Nashville Fan--I dont understand the fuzzy math comment. I think the math I provided is somewhere around 5th-6th grade level so are you telling me you cant add a few numbers and use percentages? You cant understand a real life example in which TPG (Bain equivalent) is offering to buy American Airlines? You didnt understand that Bain also made its investors a ton of money and those investors are likely to be institutions like union pension plans? I guess I didnt think it was that difficult to understand how he made his money. There is one thing I do know is that he didnt sell a 10 foot piece in the middle of his backyard to Tony "the Fixer" Rezco who is sitting in jail for a 10 year sentence for several hundred thousand dollars. I am sure that was all above board right? Does something smell in Hyde Park or is it Denmark on that deal?
Any questions?
P.S. Kirk, I am assuming, since you did not provide any links, that you pulled those number out of your behind. That is fuzzy math my friend. :o)
I'm with Nash on this.
The President used OUR money to invest in OUR country to save industry and prevent a depression so that WE might avoid a ruined economy. The objective was stability. The beneficiary was the country.
Romney used someone else's money to buy and sell companies and create money for himself and the investors who made it all possible. The objective was profit. The beneficiary was Bain.
@Nashville_fan
What you're basically saying is that Obama's plan was better than doing nothing. Gee really? Durrrrrr
Well guess what, "better than nothing" doesn't make it "good"-
"The record of President Obama's first three years in office is in, and nothing that happens now can go back and change that. What that record shows is that President Obama, with his throwback, old-fashioned, 1970s Keynesian economics, has put America through the worst recovery from a recession since the Great Depression."-http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterferrara/2012/01/12/the-worst-economic-recovery-since-the-great-depression/
But you're right, it was still better than doing nothing at all. Personally I think it's time we tried something that hasn't already been proven to be just barely better than doing nothing. Maybe instead of doubling down on near failure, as Obama intends to do, we should try something that might actually work without putting our grandchildren in the poor house as they struggle to pay off the debt we're racking up. But that's just me, you are apparently satisfied with near failure.
Nashville, I dont even understand how providing you with the basics of how private equity investment works needs a link or its considered fuzzy math? There is nothing special or unique to link to in that what I gave you is the basics for all of private equity and the trillions of dollars that have been invested. How do you think the real estate industry works today? When Blackstone bought Hilton or KKR buys a mall, how do you think they get paid? Do I need to give you a link how Blackstone bought Hilton? What happened to common knowledge or it becomes fuzzy math? There is nothing mysterious on how he made money. I noticed you ignored how Obama made his money from Rezco
It's Groundhog Day!
The little furry critter (crittur?) saw his shadow,
and it's same-same old on the vine......
Gingerbread--- Lemme guess. You didn't pay attention to presidential politics or politics at all really until Obama became president, right? By the way, liberals are "willfully ignorant" of the real world. That's why they screw up everybody elses lives with their failed social experiments and their utopian bulls**t.
Exactly, that's why Gingrich wants to colonize the moon!!!!!
I knew the Repubnuts where going to attack Obama on this, but it was Bush who set the timetable. Ummm... and Damage 123, Bush screwed us, not Obama. You spout a lot of bulls**t yourself, dontcha? LOL You need to check out the statistics for jobs lost/jobs created between Obama and the Bush. Obama has got him beat... Yeah, I know you don't want to admit it, but it's in black and white. Some of your Repubnuts conceded to it already.
Gee Loran you think Bush started the wars by himself,no dems voted for it? By the way both partys blow.
I see little concearn for the country or the constitution. We need term limits really bad. I dont think Obama has done much good, like bush he does what he is told by big money. His spending and the dept are bad for the country.
If Ron Paul isnt elected i see more of the same thats been going on for forty years, carzy spending and more dept. Romney would just be a slight improvement over Obama,i would like to think he would be more pro carbon energy and he at least has some experience working with anouther party and can make deals. Im not for one party or anouther,i look at thinking and actions.
I also think we have lost so many freedoms under Bush and Obama. I think you well see more violence/riots as people are stressed out by the world around them.
Good try of putting that ole Repubnut spin on it roni.... Yes, some Dems did vote for the war. They were going by what their President swore to (BUSH)... especially with Iraq. After all was said and done, Bush lied! Billions and billions of tax dollars spent on the war with Iraq that should have never been. I fully understand the hatred for Obama... it's not because of what you Repubnuts call "failed policies". Like I told the other hater.... go look at the statistics for job creation relating to Bush and Obama. While you're at it, check out how many jobs were lost under each president. You may not want to admit it, but Obama has done better for this country than Bush did... and Lord, help us if one of these idiots in the Repubnut clown show gets into office!
@ Loren, yes under Obama we do have job creation but we've lost even more rights so he is still a POS like Bush...thats about the difference between em...
@Loren-4235488
You're accusing others of spin? That's rich! The reality is that the dems had access to the EXACT SAME INFO that Bush did. This idea that he tricked the dems into going along with something is beyond laughable. How can anyone be dumb enough to believe that? I mean really, what are you saying? That the dems were just a bunch of idiots who were easily duped or that suddenly they decided, for no good reason, to just unconditionally trust what the other side was telling them for the first time in the history of the country?
Do you want people to look at the statistics or just those that support your viewpoint?
http://danieljmitchell.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/the-two-obama-job-disasters/
And as a final point I have to ask. Do you really not see just how pathetic the "better than Bush" argument is? That's really the best thing you can come up with to defend Obama? Ouch. And do you also realize that if Obama gets 4 more years the radicals who are still defending Bush will be using that very same argument "well he was still better than Obama". After all Obama has only had 3+ years to flush our country down the toilet and your comparing that to the 8 years Bush spent doing it. On equal terms- 8 years of Bush vs 8 years of Obama, George Bush is going to come out looking like George Washington by comparison
Damage......no I've followed politics for many, many years and it is through following them for so long, I, came to the conclusion, long before President Obama was even on the scene that there is an element on the right who are nasty, ignorant boors. Their lack of education only underscores their hateful rhetoric and you fit the bill even if you may be educated, but that's a big maybe.
Consider yourself on ignore.
We're not at war with anybody (for the first time in TEN YEARS) and Bin Laden dead? I'd say the GOP is toast.
Even better, MB---the President and Secretary Panetta along with military leaders have recognized that the nature of warfare has changed---we still have a war on terrorism but we are now fighting it with drones, strike missions like the Seals and intelligence. Less risk to American life and less cost as well.
"What is Wrong With This Guy"
What's the definition of a gaffe? When a politician accidently tells the truth. Romney isn't making a mistake when he says he enjoys firing people, or, he doesn't care about the very poor, it's the truth coming out.
It isn't that he is a bad man, but his world view is, that if people are suffering, it's because they aren't living according to God's rule. Romney has spent his whole life obeying the rules of his religion, and he's got to believe there has to be a reward for inhibiting himself for decades. He thinks he made his billions by following God's law - when, in fact, it was the devil leading him along the way. My ancestors were Puritans, and they would have told him, God doesn't help people get rich; suffering is the path to God.
Amy wrote-- "if people are suffering, it's because they aren't living according to God's rule.".....
Really Amy? What kind of heartless, religious fanatic are you? Jesus would not agree. He was a liberal. When you say something like that it disgusts me.
I'm very sorry you aren't able to follow my commentary on Romney's religion thinking, Damage.
Perhaps we have had different educational, or life, experiences. I don't understand discussions about football, myself.
I want you to know that I just put you into the "Ignore" category for your continued willful and purposeful lying. You don't even have the good sense to realize that your "out of context" restatement of Amy's posting and subsequent rabid off topic response is exactly the same type of response the GOP/Media is responsible for.
No Mr/Ms Damage123, I for one will no longer read any of your posts, and if Newsvine had any integrity left they would ban you and all other posters like you, Left-Wing and Right-Wing both, for violation of the code of honor, integrity, and lastly civility.
Just so you understand what the ethical procedure is with regards to rebuttal of another poster's point of view, you first use those little quotation marks only when you are utilizing the entire quote, otherwise your quoted portion is to be preceded by three dots, ie. "...this is just a portion of the actual text I am quoting." or "there is more to this text but I am only quoting this portion...". Got it?
I know you really don't care what I or others like myself think of your posts, that is fine. But in the true spirit of expression via my 1st Amendment Rights I felt it vital to respond to such a blatantly mean spirited, off topic, and outright distortion of what another poster had provided.
Good day Madam/Sir.
I followed it just fine, Amy. I was just taking your words out of context. Like you did with Romney's words. But you knew that, didn't you. harharhar.
Sayitaint,
I'm not too sure Damage123 cares too much about any sort of honor code. He cares about getting out his point... Which unfortunately requires gratuitous amounts of hate to expound.
SayitaintSo-628660
Thank you.
Taint--- Thank you for falling into my trap designed to show dimwitted liberals what it's like to be taken out of context. Now I'm gonna scan thru your posts to see where you may have cried like a whiny little female dog over posters you AGREE with. I doubt I'll find any.
It's not a trap, Damage. You are consistently hateful. Consistently expounding garbage, and consistently a jackass.
''while one sings with his tongue on fire, gargles in the rat race choir cares not to come up any higher, but rather get you down in the hole that hes in.And I mean no harm, nor put fault,on anyone that lives in a vault but its all right Ma if I cant please him''/bob dylan
What the Republicans did not say which was reported this morning. Is that we will still have a strong presence in the region. We are not living completely. But why should be expect the republicans to tell us the truth about anything. BTW, we heard from a spokesman. He was asked how would you do a better job the Obama with the ecomony. He had no new ideas, but what he hightlighted was. Cutting Taxes, Less Regulation, and less govenment. The usual Republican talking points. Now, I do not know how that creates jobs but hey why not try something new. Oh yeah, we did under Bush.
@jandrew121
1- Bush did cut taxes, but so has Obama, it was part of the stimulus. So what was your point with this one?
2-Less regulation??? Under Bush??? ROTFLMAO! Bush added more regulation in his first 3 years than Obama has? Do you have a friggin clue what you're talking about or do you just parrot whatever drivel you're told to?
3-Less Government??? See #2 above and again, ROTFLMAO! Government grew at a record pace under Bush.
I'm still trying to decide if Bush was "Obama lite" or if Obama is "Bush on steroids" but either way what we've been getting for the past 3 years isn't all that much different than what we had the 8 years prior. Anyone who can't see that is little more than a puppet for whichever party they bow down to.
This is a bald face lie!
Millions of women will go to other free breast screening facilities. The only corner on the market that Planned Parenthood has is killing babies for conveince.
Well if you cant make the choice of keeping your legs crossed you have to do something.
Planned Parenthood's mission is to prevent unplanned pregnancies and to provide gynecological services to low income women. They are often a woman's only source of healthcare.
Yes Amy, that is very true regarding Planned Parenthood's availability. See people like 3rdParty et al incorrectly assume that there are plenty of other organizations in the locations where Planned Parenthood operates. You know, they equate organizations like PP with other for profit organizations. They assume there is a competitor out there who fills the need in small rural communities because then it justifies eliminating PP's existence; after all according to people like 3rdParty et al "The only corner on the market that Planned Parenthood has is killing babies for conveince." So I guess the other services that PP provides are just there as a cover for their "...corner of the market." right 3rdParty et al?
waste of time, lives and money.we had a better chance of winning a war in North Carlolina than we did there. Stop wasting money on this and put that money into America.
Well, a trillion dollars and 4500 lives and countless injuries for what???
To be more hated and unsafe than we were 10 years ago.
Brilliant.
Thats the problems of being the worlds police and trying to fight undeclared wars without killing anyone.
They could have flown a wave of bombers and flattened citys and people wouldnt mess with us after that, but no we had to drag it out and spend billions and get people killed, then what? leave and accomplish knothing.
War needs to be declared and a draft used and the full weight of bombing and mass death to crush the will of the enemy to fight, yeah war is hell, mabe the draft part would slow down the war mongering.Just wait for Iran, the oil prices well skyrocket and it well be hell.
Oh i actually would go the Ron Paul way of keeping our nose out and talking to people.Pull our people out of the middle east and close bases all over the world.I guess people cant profit from that advanced way of thinking.
More unsafe? We could have really gotten the world behind us after 9/11, rooted out extremists with the help of local govts, winning over the people, end our one sided oil interests in the gulf, and so much more.
Instead we invaded two sovereign nations. Then occupied them for a decade. Seriously, THAT has made you and I more unsafe.
Google "progressive movement in America" You may...or may not want to change your post name..
All depends on your feelings towards hitler
The truth is the US has figured out they cannot win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people and they can't control the government. We have essentially lost the battle as did others before us. Those that served there are already speaking up not happy with the "announcement" of pulling out. So now those that have been waiting in the wings are rejoicing and will be back in business very quickly. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out.
The US has run out of money. The people don't support being there anymore. The Afghans don't want us there and the US has run out of ideas of how to proceed.
Killing OBL was one goal which was met, but rather irrelevant in reality. OBL was an old man hiding in a town. The media likes to make it sound like he was orchestrating activities, but we all know that is baloney. So we got the guy that did orchestrate 9/11 and so time to go? We spent all the money and blood to get ONE man? Maybe that was the primary goal by Obama, but I doubt it. Nobody ever knew where he was and so to commit that many resources to a country not knowing would have been foolish.
Obama re-invaded Afghanistan to stop Pakistan from further deterioration and becoming an even bigger threat. He failed on that count.
